We purchased three high efficiency Trane heat pumps for our residence which we occupied on January 2, 2008. All three heat pumps failed in early March 2012. We had to replace all the evaporator coils which had completely rusted. Trane refused to acknowledge that this was a latent defect or to offer any remuneration for installation of these three new coils which cost $1800.00. Several other neighbors experienced the same problem on their Trane units which were also high efficiency and installed within three months of my purchase of these units. The parts warranty expires in January 2013. I had asked for an extended warranty which they declined to give me.

I had an XV20i heat pump installed with a Tam 8 air handler and the top of the line thermostat. This was a $12,000 purchase. The unit was installed two and a half years ago. Ive had nothing but continual and still ongoing problems. My installing dealer went out of business so Ive had to pay for labor during a time the labor should have been covered under warranty. To date Ive paid $1,000 in labor charges since installation, not to mention the constant headaches with the unit being down. Trane did refund me approximately $280.00 in labor charges a few months back. However, when I was offered that amount I expressed my displeasure with the amount and was told take it or leave it. When my dealer went out of business, I contacted Trane customer service asking what I should do and if there were any dealers in my area that knew how to work on these newer units. I was given a list of dealers (which I kept).Every dealer I called on the list told me they didnt service my area. So I was on my own. I called a local Trane dealer out of the phone book. He was very honest and told me his company didnt service these type of units due to their complexity. He referred me to another dealer. I was told this dealer sells a lot of high-end equipment and they know what they’re doing. The dealer I was referred to has been to my house 4 times since April 2016, just as recent as 3 days ago.As Im writing this review my unit is down again. On their first service run I was told my outside unit need a software upgrade to 2.0 and a new personality module which I paid them to install. The unit ran fine during the summer, but now that its cold problems have returned, and as I stated it is down again. This unit is clearly a LEMON. Since it obviously cant be repaired correctly, I want Trane to furnish me a new unit installed. I have a stack of work orders, which I previously submitted to Trane. Of course I have even more now.

My Trane heat pump quit and I called Country Heating and Cooling Inc to check it out and make the repairs. The system was less than 5 years old and still under the 10 year parts warranty. They discovered a very small leak in copper tubing and made the repair. They also replaced the condenser fan motor I assume because the leak caused a failure in the motor. It took 90 minutes and I was charged $1055.48 which included refrigerant. Shouldnt refrigerant be part of the parts? I asked why so much and they said this was a standard fee for this work. Its amazing Trane uses such cheap copper tubing or makes such poor connections so that it fails within a few years. Its even more amazing HVAC companies can charge almost $500 per hour for repairs. Top lawyers dont make that much.

Purchased an expensive Trane HVAC unit 3 1/2 years ago and have had to replace the coil twice. This last time the coil leaked and caused the panel doors to crack according to the technician. The coil is under warranty but the labor to replace this piece is not and neither is the cost of the panel doors nor the labor to install them. The total cost with labor is over $1000. Trane is not taking any responsibility for the panel doors. I am contacting the Attorney General of Florida with this problem because I have been told by people in the HVAC industry that Trane products have become substandard and break down often. I do not think that I should be responsible for paying when an inferior product is being sold.

I installed a Trane residential HVAC system in my home in 2012 and strongly encourage anyone looking to replace their home HVAC system to look anywhere else but at Trane. The system has broken down a number of times and recently the igniter switch has burned out three time in the past month. The installer cannot find the reason and now I am told that I have to replace a board with a cost in excess of $1,000. This is after replacing the igniter switch twice at a cost or $200 per switch. I called Trane and all they could tell me was that I am out of the warranty period. Clearly Trane does not stand behind their products. Pick another manufacturer and avoid Trane.

XL18I AC system - Purchased and had the unit installed in Dec 2007 in a new house. The first year I went through a summer 2008 it did not cool properly. Had to configure the temp shutoff in the attic unit. The 3rd year 2010, had to replace the circuit board in the blower/condenser coil in the attic. The 5th year 2012 had to replace a relay on the blower/condenser unit in the attic. The 6th year 2013 the capacitor had to replaced in the outside unit. The 7th year 2014 the capacitor set had to be replaced again. The 8th year 2015 the condenser coils had to be replaced along with the expansion valve and refrigerant. This year (the 9th) 2016 I have had to have service person in again. He originally replaced the switching valve and the expansion valve and it worked the weekend and then went out again. Service person came in and pulled the expansion valve and it was plugged with trash. Installed a filter drier and is still not cooling. This is the biggest POS I have ever owned in my life. Warranty is about to run out and I have had it. Labor and freon cost are killing me.

The seller of our house put in a brand new Trane TAM7 with an XL18i just to sell the house. Less than a year into the house the unit developed a leak at the evaporator coil. Took several days in the middle of summer to get it fixed (labor/410a not included). Then within a couple months the time delay fuse blew twice in a row - the tech eventually replaced it with a similar rated automotive fuse. Now this summer the condenser coil went out and after getting that fixed the blower ECM has died. Over and over, the system keeps breaking in multiple places... Absolute piece of crap. A unit this expensive should last care free for years - not break down 4 times in the first 5 years.

We bought a Trane heatpump/a/c unit in January of 2019. A valve in the unit failed in less than a year. Although the specific valve was covered under their limited warranty, the parts that are associated with the repair for this specific problem werent covered. Even though our installer did not bill up for labor, we still had a bill of $1033 for a unit less than a year old! As it turns out, there was a class action lawsuit over that same valve for units purchased from 2014-2018. Apparently, they havent solved the valve problem, but cleverly, specifically now list those very parts as excluded under the warranty. Never buy a Trane, they dont stand behind their product and apparently dont test it well, either, even though it states that they do on their website.

I purchased my home in 2010. The Trane AC was installed new in 2007. I have had issue after issue each and every year ironically at about the same time each year. I do not touch the unit. It is set for constant just about year round living in FL. First, it was a non-issue HVAC service call messed around with unit and said it was all under warranty - never got a real answer but the service call was $300. The second year it was the hi/low switch which cost me $300 in labor. Today, it is the blower again under warranty but labor costs are at $200. At this rate, I will have paid for this unit again before it should be time to replace it.

We purchased our home in 2013. My a/c was out in August this year with bad coil which only 2 years and 2 months a/c system. I was told by Trane rep the coil part is not covered by warranty because is over 2 years. We have to paid a/c company full price to replace the coil. Now after 3 and half months later its go out again. Many people telling us the Trane coil part is not quality part, broke very easy in the short time. I am extremely upset with Trane a/c unit. House only 2 years old. Should not have such problems! Not sure there are people out there has the same problem as me? What advise someone can give us.

I recently moved into my custom built home. During the planning phase I requested TRANE equipment due to prior good experiences. Upon completion I had no idea that the TRANE equipment had to be registered 60 days after closing (I am sure its stated in the fine print or piles of documents one receives when purchasing a new house). Minor mistake... WRONG! The difference is with a brand new home and brand new trane furnace/ac/coil equipment you lose 5-7 yrs of warranty on the equipment if you do not register in 60 days... NO EXCEPTIONS, NO OPTIONS, NO INTERMEDIARY SOLUTIONS. BASICALLY NO ONE THAT APPARENTLY REALLY CARES! I strongly recommend using another company that is more transparent with their policies and has a real customer service department that is equipped to do the right thing when necessary! 10 year parts warranty if you register in 60 days! 5 & 3 year warranty if you dont... same new equipment, same new house but a rigid, ridiculous policy that none of their customer relations employees can even really defend. Weve already had the furnace go down (23F outside) & now I learn about their policies & customer relations efforts. Ill never make this mistake again (Trane equipment).

Once AGAIN I am having to pay for ANOTHER repair on my 2006 XL14I Trane that I purchased in 2006. In Feb. 2013, I had to have the compressor replaced; June 2009 I had to have a coil replaced. Now at the current time, I am waiting on a new circuit board that goes on the fan motor. The parts are under warranty for 2 more years, but I am STILL having to pay for the labor which IS NOT cheap. But I SHOULDNT have all this trouble with a $5000 product that is ONLY 8 years old. Moral of the story is: DO NOT buy a Trane! Years ago they were a good product but NOW they SUCK! So heed the warning if you are looking to purchase a heat pump. NO TRANE!!!!

I had my unit installed about 1 year ago and it has been running like a champ ever since. I got a 5 ton heat pump with the 2 speed compressor that makes it more energy efficient. The package was installed by a local company that was a wonderful experience overall and it includes a 10 year parts and labor warranty. We need a reliable unit since it gets in the triple digits quite frequently in Las Vegas. It is hard to stop a Trane!

I have a TRANE HVAC heat pump system, that is still in warranty, equipped with a Digital Thermostat. The digital thermostat is the piece of equipment that I am having an issue with. When I contacted TRANEs technical service department, a technician led me through several troubleshooting procedures. The technical support person, Brandon, then advised me that the thermostat was defective and needed to be replaced. I asked him for the part number so that I could relay that information to my Trane servicing dealer. Brandon advised me that my thermostat was no longer being manufactured and there wasnt a compatible replacement. I asked him what I was supposed to do, and he intimated that I may end up having to replace my entire HVAC system because there isnt a replacement thermostat. I couldnt believe what I was hearing. I have placed several calls to 2 servicing Trane dealers in my area and the thermostat is indeed unavailable. I told the Trane Technical support person, that is like going out to start you car and discover the battery is dead, and a mechanic telling you that you that the battery cant be replaced and youll have to buy a new car. This borders on consumer fraud. I have a call in to the consumer affairs department, but Im not holding my breath waiting for a response.

If youre looking for HVAC equipment, youve probably heard the Nothing runs like a Trane commercials. Well, my experience with them differs a bit. Their slogan should be Nothing RUINS like a TRANE... ruins your reputation with your tenants, ruins your day, ruins your familys holiday, and ruins your bank account. My system, which SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN WARRANTY cost me almost $2000 to fix due to a defective A coil, and TRANE weaseled out of their warranty and stuck me with the bill. If youre looking for HVAC equipment, do yourself a favor... dont believe Tranes advertising hype and choose a company that will truly stand behind their product. I contacted them through their website, explained what had happened, and a week later, got a machine-like call from a minimum-wage customer service agent who obviously couldnt care less if I ever bought another TRANE system and refused to even consider my warranty claim. Needless to say, Ill NEVER spend a dime with TRANE after this experience and I strongly suggest you heed my warning and avoid them like the plague.

Put in new unit 2014. Took two weeks plus to make it run, never has run cold. In first year the compressor, evaporator coil, expansion valve, and circuit board replaced. Next year it stopped again. The tech. came out and fixed it again. Still not cold. 2016 broke again, evacuated Freon. Put in weighed charge. Replaced some parts and left, still not cold. 2017 stopped working. Original company quit working or selling Trane. Called four companies to fix it. All four said no longer will work on this system because of no Trane support plus Trane techs do not know XV20i heat pumps. NEVER BUY TRANE!!!

I just read 2 recent reviews that are my story!!! Omg! If someone wants to do a class action against Trane for this recurrent issue, I am in. The coil is defective and leaked coolant. The unit had been shutting down hard and sounded like it was going to explode. I also had a $500 electric bill. My HVAC company came out Saturday and put 10lbs!!! of Freon in a 14lb system. They had to order the warrantied coil. They informed me the labor and Freon would be around $1150!!! The manager reduced the price to $850, and told me to call Trane as they knew Trane worked with residential owners. Well, if you got the rep I did, I have no idea how you get anything from them. Christina was no help. She kept telling me that Freon is from a 3rd party vendor. I don’t want Freon from Trane. She also said Trane is only responsible for the part, not the Freon one or labor. But if you just admitted responsibility for the functioning of the part that keeps coolant in, your part didn’t do what you said it is supposed to. So, I paid $10000 for the unit which we are in our last year paying for. I paid $200 for Freon from a previous HVAC visit suspecting a leak with dye and found nothing. Then, the $850 I am paying tomorrow, right before our next winter event in Texas, plus the increase in the electric bill last month and most likely this month. When the tech came out Saturday at 9am, the system had gone into emergency heat on 14!!! occasions. So, I will be lucky if the electric bill is only $500 this next month. If your part fails that is responsible for keeping the coolant flowing through the unit, you are responsible Trane, for the cause and effect from that failed part which is you owing me and the others on this feed money for an obvious issue with the coil!

My wife and I purchased a 2500 sf. home in 2011 that was equipped with 2 Trane HVAC systems. The home was designed to operate with 2 systems to provide adequate airflow for both 1st & 2nd floors and to eliminate the excessive wear & tear of only relying on 1 unit to do the job. To this point, I have never owned a home that was equipped with a Trane product, but have always heard great things. We actually thought we were getting a little Peace of Mind because of the feedback weve heard about the Trane brand, but Peace of Mind was the last thing we received. Our opinion about Trane products took a turn for the worst last week when I noticed that the AC system sounded slightly louder than usual. My first instinct was to check the vents for airflow, which there was no cold ac coming out. When I checked the main HVAC unit, I noticed the lines were frozen (usually means low Freon or better yet, a Freon leak). At this point I called a reputable AC company to come out, fix the leak and recharge the system. When the technician arrived he began troubleshooting the system and discovered there was severely more problems with the unit than originally expected. When the technician opened the unit he noticed that there was excessive corrosion to the internal parts, which also needed to be repaired. After a full survey of my ac system the technician told me that I have 2 choices: Option 1, repair the defective internal parts which was quoted at $2,600.00 or Option 2 Replace the entire AC system for about $6,000.00. I called Trane to inquire about any warranty offering and the lady kindly informed me that my unit was not covered.Im not a detractor of the Trane brand because of the quoted cost of repair, I am completely aware of the Cost of Ownership and maintenance cost. Im a detractor of the brand because the product performance/life expectancy does not meet the companys product message. There is a certain level of expectations that consumers have when they spend their additional money for a premium product. Being a first time Trane owner and having had my first experience working with Tranes customer service, I can honestly say I have ZERO interest in ever owning another Trane. I will try to load pictures of my A/C system to accurately reflect its condition. Externally, the system looks brand new. Internally, well, that is a different story.

XV 90 Control Board fried after warranty expired - I had a XV 90 installed in 2004. It has run without issue up until Christmas Eve 2012. Ill spare the horror story around the troubleshooting process to determine the board was fried, but in the end, I ended up forking out $1,100 to have a new control board installed. Symptoms: (1) no heat; (2) it came on once, but that appeared to be its final cycle; (3) fan would still run, so it led me to believe that there was hope. Bottom line: Theres a known problem with the board for the model/serial of my furnace. It was recommended by Trane that a new control board/upgrade kit be installed. I plan to keep it around just so that I feel like I gained something from spending so much on a new control board. The service tech that did the repair mentioned that this is a common occurrence and he carries extra boards in his truck for this very reason - nice.

We installed two Trane XLi20 units five years ago. The first floor unit has performed flawlessly. The second floor air handler was replaced within two months, followed by over 20 service visits by our local Trane installer (who has been great throughout). Since the local distributor has not been able to solve the recurrent coiling failure issues and Trane has not offered to replace the compressor, even though the problem almost always seems to be low refrigerant pressure, our installer has offered to install a comparable new Lennox system for free. Trane has been non-responsive to consumers for such a long time that I cannot believe they can still survive in this business. Never again. Has anyone started a class action against Trane? Id love to join in.

After spending over $16000 for two Trane A/C XL 20i units from Protocool Air Conditioning, 18 months later they said they made a mistake and billed me another $1000. In the first year, one unit stopped cooling and they could not find small leak. Even though it was under warranty, they just refilled it at different times, and I have had the problem every 4 months. I called a different dealer, and he found the leak and has to replace the COIL for another $800 for labor, which is no longer under warranty. Also, in this same period of time, the entire duct system filled up with water from condensation and cost me another $1800 to repair and replace. I have since learned this is a common problem with these units. Trane offers no service help at all. They are impossible with which to get in touch. They only send you to another dealer, which is hit or miss whether they know what they are doing.I suggest you do not waste your money on these expensive units when a Ruud or Rheem unit for a quarter of the price will operate fine with less maintenance. My old Ruud lasted over 15 years with very little maintenance. I also suggest you do not deal with Protocool Air Conditioning in South Florida. I still feel they overcharged me and then gave bad repair service. If anyone would like to talk to me personally or see my Trane A/C units, I will be glad to talk to you before you waste your money.

New installation of furnace and heat pump/AC system installed in 2014. Heat pump compressor just went out Nov 2019. Part is warranted for 10 yrs, so that was covered, but labor was not. Expensive labor cost that is for sure. The installers who did the original installation commented that Trane had wiring issues with heat pumps late in 2014, and changed how it was connected at the unit. In fact this installer had trouble getting the replacement heat pump to function correctly, and had to call the Trane reps, and they walked him through the new method of wiring the pump. It was changed because it was causing the pump to cycle too often, and led to early failure. Hum...sounds like my pump. Installer said Trane will do nothing for you. Im angry that Trane knew they needed to change the wiring schematic and did not notify existing installations about it. I feel they are responsible for this issue on my unit.

In April 2007 I purchased a Trane residential HVAC system for $8500 from Home Depot. The authorized Trane installer at that time was McCarthy Services. They installed the system and “completed” the install on April 9, 2007. I was given a certificate of warranty by McCarthy that covered from April 9, 2007 to April 9, 2017. Several months later I was looking for the inspection certificate from the county and found that there was not one in my paperwork. I contacted the county to get a copy. They did not find a record of a permit issued for the installation of my HVAC system. I contacted McCarthy and informed them that they did not get a permit for the install and did not have a county inspection. McCarthy was issued a permit on May 13, 2008 and had the inspector come out. The install failed inspection. They made some changes to the system, and again it failed. Finally, on July 17, 2008, the install passed inspection by the county. On July 1, 2017, the AC failed. A tech looked at it and said the compressor had failed and needed to be replaced, and that the coil also needed to be replaced as the new compressors use a different kind of freon and are not compatible with that coil. The cost was to be $5975. I called Trane and explained that the original installation did not pass inspection until July 17, 2008 so my 10-year warranty should go from July 17, 2008 to July 17, 2018 and this compressor/coil replacement should be covered by the warranty. They told me to take a hike. I paid for the install out of pocket and filed a complaint with Trane. The Trane customer service person said they could not do anything. I escalated it and that person basically told me to stick it.I am a home inspector. We used to rate Trane and Carrier as two of the best HVAC systems. We typically tell our customers that any major appliance that is 10 years old could be ready for a replacement in the near future so they should start planning. I have seen AC units that are 20 years old still running fine. More and more we are hearing horror stories about Trane HVAC systems. I no longer recommend Trane to anyone and now suggest Carrier.Trane seems to have abandoned their commitment to quality and their customer service sucks. I can attest to both. It seems that the one thing that can easily stop a Trane is a few years. So, I decided to file a suit against Trane in the hope that they would at least negotiate some partial payment to me for this replacement (which was a Trane only because if it was a Carrier I would have no chance at any reimbursement). I filed suit in small claims court in my county. I heard nothing from Trane and expected them to be a no-show on the day of court. Instead, they sent a hot-shot lawyer from Washington DC to fight me. The case was moved to regular court and a trial date was set. I had to file a document called a Bill of Particulars stating my complaint. Their hot-shot lawyer filed a 10-page reply referencing a whole bunch of cases and provided 11 reasons why I should not get my money. I am certain that this has cost Trane more than the $5000 I was looking for. This attorney did not even ask me if I was willing to take some other amount to make me happy and drop the case. They are clearly really serious about not giving a crap about their customer. Please, don’t ever buy a Trane.

My issue started on November 18, 2015. I have had a non-functional heat pump for over 8 months now. Initially bought a new High Efficiency Furnace and Heat Pump from Gary at Southwest Heating. Very satisfied with install and workmanship. I did find out a work permit was not pulled, not sure if they are required in Elbert county, but most HVAC contractors will pull a permit regardless to cover their butts. Everything worked fine for a year and a half. Then we had a snow storm along with a power surge and my Heat Pump quit working.Called Southwest for service and they sent a guy who told me the disconnect was bad so it was replaced. Once I found out it was more than the disconnect I called Southwest again and another tech came out. Told me my Heat Pump compressor was bad. He said he would start paperwork for warranty since the unit was 1-1/2 years old and still under Tranes warranty for 10 years. Paid for my service call and 3 weeks went by and no word. I called Southwest and lady answering did not know a thing and would get back with me... Really. She did get back and said she was sending out Mike the owner to give me a quote. Mike came and did not know thing, he asked if his company installed it, or he pretended not to know a thing. Anyways, he called his tech and confirmed with him the compressor was bad. What does Mike the owner do, he quotes me $8000 for a new compressor unit and does not want to talk warranty. He tried calling the Trane Rep and said he had wrong number and would get back to me. One day went by no word, I call the office and talked with lady answering phones and she said I just missed him and he would call me in the morning. Never heard back from Mike the owner. Called another Trane authorized dealer (Parker Heating & Cooling) and had their techs come out. They spent hour and half diagnosing the Heat Pump and told me the compressor was fine, it is a circuit board. Cost of circuit board is $383, upon installation it was not the circuit board. The owner of that company did not want to talk about my 10 year Trane warranty and he quoted me $3000 just for the compressor and $4900 for the whole Heat Pump unit. This owner flat out said that doing warranty work does not benefit his companys bottom line and could care less about the warranty. Give me your credit card over the phone I will order and have it installed within a week. I said no thank you. I contact Trane consumer affairs submitting a ticket. I was contact by a representative 3 weeks later and was told he had contact both companies I have been dealing with. SouthWest Heating is sticking to their lie that it was hit by lightning so it will not be covered by warranty. Parker Heating told the Trane rep they would provide a labor estimate and file the warranty paperwork. A week has gone by and no response from Trane. There are wild fires in Colorado causing smoke and I am asthmatic and would really like to close my house up and run the AC, but I cannot, so there is a health issue now as well. It appears that Trane has done something around how they deal with warranty work with their Authorized Dealers which does not benefit the Trane Dealer. This approach puts the consumer in the middle taking the brunt of issues. Even though you have a 10 year warranty it not worth anything. Wish I would have not bought Trane, they used to be a good company along with product.

I had the XV20i installed in the spring of 2014 with all the bells and whistles. It ran perfectly quietly all summer long until winter. In heat mode, it sounds like a light airplane beginning to take off. I now have my neighbor complaining that he cannot sleep even though his two car garage is between the heat pump and his bedroom. Is this a universal problem with this unit? It is supposed to be the Mercedes of heat pumps.

We built a new home and installed a Trane propane HVAC unit because they are supposed to be better than others. Well, fast forward to December 2018. We have a 1 1/2 year old unit that is constantly breaking. First the pressure switch and board went out, then they replaced the igniters and a couple gas parts. Now another switch has went out and they replaced it. This unit has been broken continually since December 2018. Our installing company has been here sometimes on a daily basis, they have been wonderful through the whole process. Every time they fix something though, something else goes wrong. This has been so bad that the Field Service Representative from Trane came to see if he could help fix it. That was two breaks ago! I have contacted Tranes customer service and they have blamed it on the installing company and said they did not know what they were doing. LOL. It was the Trane service representative that said what parts to replace and how to fix it. Trane has said they will give us parts and we are responsible for the rest. This unit is broken more than it is working. We want a new unit! I am with anyone who files a class action lawsuit over these inferior units.

Had been worked on more than 6 times by two different certified installers and a Trane representative has been out as well. The original installer walked away and wouldn’t honor warranty or extended warranty that had been purchased. Had to pay out of pocket a second installer to come fix the issue which returned the following the summer again.

I purchased a brand new furnace air conditioner from Apollo H&C in 2002 and within weeks was having issues. This went on for over a year and the installation company, Apollo, replaced nearly every part in the furnace and it STILL wasnt right. Finally, they replaced the furnace with a brand new one and that one began having issues. Here it is 12 years later and I am still dealing with a product that I would NEVER recommend to my worst enemy. Not only did they install a lemon of a furnace TWICE, but I was told the furnace was too small for my home & the A/C was too large. The A/C blows out every year when we first turn it on and has to have a part replaced nearly every year. STAY AWAY FROM TRANE & APOLLO HEATING & COOLING IN S.C.S., MICHIGAN.

We replaced a failing heat pump with what we thought was the Gold Standard
We replaced a failing heat pump with what we thought was the Gold Standard - a Trane system with a 10 YEAR warranty. The system performed admirably for 4 summers, but when hot weather came to Virginia this year, the system stopped cooling b/c of what the installer indicated was a poorly located copper tube that had split and allowed the refrigerant to escape. We assumed it was an installation error that would be covered by the warranty, but in fact, the technician said the units are made that way. Four weeks later and over $1,500 of labor and service charges [$800 of which is 2 occasions of lost refrigerant] we are still waiting for parts because we balked at paying an additional $300 for expedited shipping. It may be Hard to STOP a TRANE, but from our experience, its even HARDER to START a TRANE!

Our home was built in 2002 and completed in October. We have a closed loop geothermal system with 3 zones. Each zone has a heat pump and a Trane air handler. The system works well and weve had good heating and cooling for 9 1/2 years with low electric bills (thanks to geothermal). We have a 3 visit per year contract with the company that installed our system and have been generally pleased with this service. The first air handler failed after 4 years due to an evaporative coil leak. It was replaced under warranty (with plenty of labor costs). The second one had the same problem shortly after the 5-year warranty expired. It was replaced at full cost. The third unit now requires replacement at less than 9 1/2 years old due to another evaporative coil leak. 3 out of 3! That’s a definite strike out for Trane. All 3 air handlers are indoors in clean protected environments and have had the units serviced 3 times per year. Our much cheaper heat pump that we had in our previous house in TX (with air handler in a blazing hot attic) never had a coil leak. The electric bills were a lot more, but there were no failures in 13 years.

I had a new Trane HVAC unit installed three years ago after having nothing but problems for years with the original unit that came with the new house I bought. When we turned on the heat this year nothing but cold air came out. The installer came out and tells me that the TXV unit is bad, has a clog, and a hole is in the freon line coming off the TXV. Total cost $1400 so far. When I talked to Trane they wont cover anything but replace the TXV which I have to pay to be installed. Due to it failing I have to pay for the Freon, and due to it blocking the line it caused a leak in the line, I have to pay for it to be repaired. TRANE claims to be the best there is, IT IS JUNK. Three years and a major failure of parts are not normal and as a consumer, I should not have to spend thousands of dollars to fix TRANE junk. Expensive junk- deceptive customer service. We had a split system installed in our sunroom as part of a major home renovation project. The unit functioned erratically the whole time. We were told by the contractor that it was to be expected or maybe we were not using it right. Last December, 14 months later, the condenser died due to condensation turning it into a solid block of ice. We contacted a Trane certified repair company and found out our product has not been registered for the three year warranty, and the one year basic warranty had expired.I contacted Trane, to explain that my husband and I were not at fault for this, and asked them to stand behind their product and help us out. I wasnt expecting a full replacement or even 100% part replacement, but at least 50%. Their response after almost two months of back and forth, providing all sorts of information and getting transferred to three tiers of customer service levels, was to offer us 15% off a new unit. $315 for a $2200 installation! So much for standing behind their products! I guess I should have checked this site first and noted the one star rating! The only reason I gave it two stars is because I believe three out of the four CS reps truly tried to help, but it came down to the Escalation Specialists who dropped the hammer on my hopes for a decent resolution.

Installed a brand new HVAC unit in 2013. In 2018 the outdoor line cracked twice not covered under warranty. $400 to fix. In 2019 the compressor went bad. Apparently you have to register both the unit and the compressor separately in order to get the 10-year warranty. Which in my opinion is a scam so that maybe youll miss it and they can reduce the warranty to 5 years. At 5 years and 11 months $1,000 compressor went bad. Purchased the new heat pump in 2014. It replaced a 25+ year old YORK system. Within a year the condenser developed a violent shaking and rattling during a storm. We called an American Standard recommended technician in our area and he said unit developed a leak. We got it fixed at our cost of $600. The unit also has a musty odor called stinky sock smell occasionally when we turn it on...It is disgusting so we installed an ultraviolet light again at our cost....Needless to say our other heater never had any shaking or smells. We contacted American Standard to try to figure out what the problem was with the shaking and smell. We got no answers and told us parts were under warranty but not labor... In 2019 the compressor failed, we replaced that to the tune of 1700 labor costs. A month later another part inside. Within a week a reverse coil part failed. WE contacted American Standard/TRANE to file a complaint regarding the unit and our costs to replace parts. We have maintained the unit and sent a 40 page pdf of a history of maintenance and repairs. So far there has been no response even though we have called several times to find out about our case. Lesson learned. Do not buy a new American Standard/Trane hvac.

My nine year old XV90 Trane furnace leaks water and two different contractors concluded that the heat exchanger is cracked. Even though the heat exchanger has a lifetime warranty, it will not be honored by Trane because that piece for my model is discontinued. As a result, they will only offer a credit of $360 for that towards a new Trane furnace. For a piece that is the heart and soul of the machine, that amount of credit is simply laughable since it would cost a lot more than that if purchased out in the market. Therefore, this lifetime Trane warranty is simply misleading to say the least. For now there is no resolution other than me shopping for a new furnace and I will never buy a Trane product due to this fiasco of a lifetime warranty.

I bought a new Xi15 heat pump and furnace on 16 Jul 09 and the thing hasnt worked right more than a few days at a time since I bought it. I had to have gas serviced two times since install--the first time was just days after the annual service was done and nothing was found wrong. The first time, the tech didnt have enough gas and said that hed be back (yep, he came back the next year for the service and had to fill it again). I had the annual service done in July and ran the AC for two days. I just decided to turn on the heat a couple of days ago and it didnt work again. Every time I turn the unit on, after a couple of months, it doesnt work. Its an $8,700 piece of **.The tech came out Friday again and said that the fan motor is bad and said that it will be $328.75 labor to replace--should take all of an hour. Anyway, Ill never do business with Dicks or Trane again. Mike **, the sales guy, lied about the warranty and Dicks tried to scam me on the annual service that was free. Trane doesnt even want to discuss the issues and refers me back to Dicks so they carry the same reputation in my book. In July 2014, I purchased a Trane 4 ton air conditioner and air handler. In July 2017, the coil developed a leak and I spent $1150 in labor cost to install new coil and $300 to replace refrigerant even though the coil was under warranty. In August 2019, the new coil also developed a leak. I had to pay $850 in labor to install my 3rd coil and $390 to replace refrigerant that leaked out. Replacing both coils under warranty cost me a total of $2690. My service technician from AA American Air Conditioning told me that this is a common problem with Trane coils. I called Trane Customer Service and was immediately told that they would not compensate me for my expenses even though they are selling defective coils. Customer Service told me to have my service technician request a visit by a Trane field representative. He tried to do this but was told that the customer (me) has to contact Trane Customer Service to request a visit by a company field representative. I am in a Catch 22 situation and Trane is giving me the runaround. They clearly do not want to take responsibility for their defective coils and they have a “customer be damned” approach to customer service.

My heat pump has a LG compressor. (Number part COM11968). When I ask my dealer why, they just told me they changed it without explanation. I do not know was it a bad unit or installation. They also changed evaporation coils. All in first week. When I called Trane customer service they told me last time they had such problem in August 2016. They advised me to tell my dealer to send unit back to distributor and get a new one. No warranty claims. No invoices for product and parts installation. My system did not pass city inspection because they did not put hurricane pad for elevation. I refuse to have Trane without Climatuff compressor. We purchased a new Trane heat and air system for our home nearly a year ago. We wanted the best and top of the line so we wouldn’t have to worry about problems. Paid a high price for the package for our up and downstairs. Within 3-4 months we realized we had an odd smell coming from the vents and after several visits we find out both units had Dirty Socks syndrome (Yep that’s for real). After several visits and attempts to fix this bacteria growing on the coils, they had to replace coils on both units with epoxy coated coils. Thinking now after 6-9 months of problems we should be good, a week before our warranty was up the condenser for the upstairs unit went out and Trane wouldn’t replace the entire compressor unit, only the condenser, so our heating and air company, knowing all the problems, replaced the entire compressor unit at their expense! We would never buy another Trane and will never recommend them after this experience!!!

It took a week to obtain the replacement. Now, in May of 2019 were dealing with the need for other parts for the air handler - a circuit board, valve, EVAP sensor and another sensor. Parts take much too long to be obtained. They say 3-5 business days, but were already past 4 days and I dont expect to see them within 5. So, buyer beware that unless the part(s) you need are readily and locally available, you could have a problem. The risk is high and when we replace this system it will NOT be with a Trane system.

This included a variable speed 2-stage furnace, top-of-the-line Trane heat pump, new coils, and a whole house humidifier. The system worked for a year. In September 2012, we started to get error messages on the thermostat. Since calling McCrea to fix this system, they have been here seven (7) times. The problems were no outdoor temperature reading, the system not being able to switch from heat pump to furnace when the temperature dropped below 35 degrees, and the humidifier stopped working. Most of these issues are related to a defective relay panel, which Trane apparently doesn’t keep in stock, or they break quite often and they can’t keep them in stock. The system still does not work as advertised and has not worked correctly for five (5) months. I do have a service contract with McCrea, and all repairs have been under warranty, but the system still doesn’t work correctly.

So recently, i purchased a couple Trane air conditioning units for the home. I was downstairs testing the home for the new winter in our new home and noticed that one of our current furnaces that came with the duplex was failing to fire. Not only is this a fire hazard, but it means it could be a cold winter for our upper tenant. I examined both units and they both appeared worn and used and the other one was likely going to fail. I went to Trane.com and found a unit that I really wanted. Ended up with the XL95. They were a little pricey, I'll be honest. But their multi-speed blower, auto mode for the fan motor, and super high efficiency has been amazing so far. We've had them for a few months and Wisconsin is just starting to get cold. I got the home down to 60 degrees and wanted to see how quickly I could get the home warmed up to 70 degrees. Took me 10 minutes to get us there and maintain that temperature. Overall, I am overly satisfied with these units and my tenants will be as well.

I told the repairman I always heard if something goes wrong with the A Coil you need to replace the unit. He said he usually recommends this and it would be over $4000 but since the unit is not even 5 years old he said to just replace the A Coil. The part is under warranty but the labor would be $1200. Good grief!!! This must be a very difficult repair since it costs $1200 to fix. I thought I was buying a good product but now I know not to recommend Trane to anyone. I guess I better hope the furnace works this winter.

Replaced old furnace in our new home. We had new duct work and the Trane v95 put in, 4 months later the ductwork fell down. Then the burners went out on the furnace, had to be replace after 3 months of use, said our basement was too damp. Had to have it serviced again for continuously running and not heating wasting my propane. They said it was our fault we didnt buy the extra warranty. Not everyone has the money to get that. Once again the burners are not heating one year after repair. Each time this has cost me 179.00, the part was under warranty. I am pretty handy but this is ridiculous. They were rude to us and blamed us. My galvanized ductwork was replaced with the foil foam stuff and I had to make many repairs from the mice eating it. Not to mention it keeps falling down heating and cooling my crawl space. We live in the country. They had a terrible time getting it to work at first. That should have been my first clue... I called home depot about it many times and the service company. When they did come out I ended up doing some of the work. Dont have an order number, bought it through home depot. OH, they are no longer using the company that installed my furnace. Too many complaints...

Bought a brand new unit 2-1/4 years ago. Selected an installer from Tranes own website. After 2-1/4 years of service the unit the condenser coil (aluminum) got a pin-hole leak. Installer wanted $2000.00 to fix it!!!! And THIS was under warranty! Trane offered to help by paying 15%. We went a different route and will NEVER EVER EVER EVER. Not for our homes or our commercial buildings NEVER EVER. I highly suggest you avoid Trane at all costs. They are trash. The 10 year parts warranty is useless since the part is of almost no value. The labor and the refrigerant is where all the costs are. AVOID!

We bought a BIG 5000 sq. ft. 5 br/6 1/2 bath house in foreclosure to renovate. We put 4 brand new, high-efficiency Trane central a/c units because wed always heard Trane was the best and thats what we wanted: pay a bit more than the rest upfront, but get the Best so you wouldnt have to worry as much in the long run... Apparently with the new high-efficiency units, it doesnt quite work that way... We had the house 9 yrs: for the 1st 7 yrs, there literally was not any 6-month period that 1 of the units did not require significant repair service; sure the parts were covered, but not the service calls - it cost us a LOT of extra money. There was a BIG lot next door and a brand new house was built while we lived there. The new owner put in all new Trane units. For the 1st year or 2, there was an a/c service company at that house almost constantly: he and I used to text back and forth rolling our eyes and shaking our heads at whose Trane system was the crappiest. All the service technicians concurred that Trane USED to be the hands-down best, but that things had changed at the top and they were now quite mediocre.

I paid USD 5500 and had a brand new Trane HVAC installed in 09/2012. In Jan 01/2017, it stopped heating, my installer said the Coil was leaking, then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid 600 labor for a brand new coil replacement. Then last month in 06/2017, it stopped cooling again! The same installer found the coil leaking again! With 2 days, Freon dropped off to almost 0 level. Then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid USD 430 to replace another brand new coil. I called Trane and reported this issue after the 2nd coil failure, surprisingly the customer service guy named Alex offered me $67 to help me pay the repair. I was amused!!! $67 to help pay the fix?! I felt kind of he was trying to close the case using a small quick amount of money to zip my mouth. Honestly speaking, I am a busy single mom, dont have interest and time to make money in this way. I never thought of the reimbursement until one of CS reps mentioned it. More important, I just wanted an explanation and apology, cause we stayed in FLs coldest winter time without heating for a week, and suffered another hot week in FL summer without cooling, within 5 months apart!!! This was really frustrating! More frustrating is because this unit is TRANE, a 5500 bucks durable product! After the explanation with Alex, he doubled the reimbursement to USD 114, then I mentioned the first time coil failure, he doubled the amount again!!! I was totally confused again! I asked whats their reimbursement standard. He said they didnt even have it! So I requested to talk to his supervisor. The lady named Sylvia ** called me back a couple of days later, and blamed me I didnt do maintenance job before. I had another leaking fix for this AC unit in 2014, paid 75 bucks to repair it. It might make sense so I decided to took the responsibility for the first Coil Leaking failure in Jan 2017. However she still couldnt explain the second coil failure, continued to blame me its my fault. She did not apologize, instead denied this is a defective product and argued the product had no problem, even after she talked to my installer, who has 30 years AC experience and addressed the defect issue. The lady was rude, lacked CS skills. She refused to give me an apology from the beginning, really made me concerned TRANEs customer service. I requested her supervisors contact, she argued she had not, the letter if I wrote, would come to her any way! If I didnt agree on the offer, she would withdraw the offer and close my case!!! What a threatening CS rep!!! Anyway, I had no choice and accepted their USD 217 offer, however I would not trust TRANE, claimed to be the most RELIABLE AMERICAN product any more!!!

I really like my Trane dealer. But… The dealer advised me that Trane is not the Trane of old. They have issues in quality and design. I need two new units and am considering Carrier or another brand. What is worse is that the customer service reps are terrible. One last comment. Before you spend a lot of money on a new HVAC system you should air seal your attic. Remove the insulation and seal every hole and joint where the drywall touches wood. Do not add insulation on top of existing insulation in a leaking attic. I spent an extra $2k to do this and replaced the cardboard rafter baffles with corrugated plastic ones from DCI. They are great and brown recluse spiders don’t like plastic. The result is that my cooling costs was reduced by at least 30%. The existing HVAC system now runs less and should help reduce the maintenance cost of a new system.

Am extremely disappointed with Trane as a company and their products. I purchased a new system 8/2015 and made several attempts to register it and thought it was registered. I just learned from my dealer the registration did not go thru and I have to pay a lot of money to get a new coil for the inside part of the system. Purchased furnace and AC. Now 2.5 years later Trane says I have no warranty and I will have to pay all the expense. Even other types of junk has at least a year warranty on manufacturing defects. The coil has a hole in it. Which is obviously a manufacturing defect and Trane wont make it good. Product is not what it is advertised as. Its hard to stop a Trane?? Guess it would have to start first. I will never buy any other Trane products and will be sure no one in my family does either.

I read a lot of these complaints, and some are easy to fix the problem. Example if your going thru ignitors, have your tech check the ground on the unit and maybe the house. Should cure that. Some say on high heat it overheats and shuts down and starts again. Ok duct may be undersized, filter clogged, A-Coil clogged with pet hair, dirt, etc. As far as brands go, Trane doesn't seem to have the class actions like a lot of them do. Believe it or not, it is not the evil equipment you may think, it might have an easier explanation. If you have one that works for a while quits and two hours later, the drain trap is clogged. When it finally drains down it allows the pressure switch to close and works till it's full of water again. Lighten up people… The dealers don't want it breaking down on you either…

After 7 years my a-c evaporator (the coil in the air handler located in my garage) needed replacement. It could not be repaired because the copper tubing was so thin that it could not permanently contain the refrigerant (Freon 22). The technician who installed the new coil asked me to lift the defective coil he had removed. It weighed about ten pounds, then he showed me a coil that was in perfect condition, from a similar a-c (48,000 BTUs (4 tons)) that was manufactured about thirty years earlier, it weighed about twenty five pounds. More than twice as heavy. The copper tubing was much heavier, not tissue paper thin like the newer unit. Why have our political leaders created very strict laws to prevent the escape of refrigerants and other destructive gases but they allow companies like Trane to make exorbitant profits while polluting the environment with these millions and millions and millions of leaky a-c coils? Why? Ask yourself, why?

Trane has a serious quality control issue. Think you are buying the best? Think again. I have Trane in 2 VRBOs and my own home. Out of 5 air handlers, the evaporator coil, the heart and soul of the unit, FAILED on 3 units and the blower motor on another. $1500 each to replace and Trane wont even talk about compensation for the labor. $1500 is just for the labor on EACH one. The coils cant be patched or soldered, it has to be replaced in an insanely tedious process.TRANE whats wrong with you? You have serious quality control issues and you know it. I purchased my Trane in 2013 from a local heating and air contractor. It was the greatest purchase I could have made. I live in SW Virginia, which means it gets pretty hot in summer and cold in winter as we live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. It keeps the house cool in summer and toasty warm in winter. It's been known to get down to zero around here upon occasion. This really is a wonderful unit. It has a 10 year warranty which is really good. I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend or to buy it again. Love it! It's Energy Star rated and has brought my electric bill down considerably. It was only $113.00 last month down from over $200.00! If you are looking to buy a furnace or heat pump I would highly suggest you look at Trane first. It's the best one out there by far!

I had my upstairs unit replaced with a TRANE system, after the 15 y/o unit failed. I researched models and went with TRANE b/c of their supposed good track record. I have had nothing but trouble with the unit since installed 4 yrs ago in 2012. The coil failed after the first 14 month in 2013, which I was told was an $1800 job had it not been covered by 2 yr labor warranty (thank God for me). The past 2 years I have had to have it serviced for AC failure twice! Each time it was for a different reason, but both resulting in leakage of Freon. The first year it was from a loosened Schroeder. This past repair was from for a leak at txv, a7# Freon leak!I have a great local company who worked with me on labor charges and recommended I contact TRANE for potential replacement. Their customer escalation department is a JOKE. I requested for them to replace my unit as there has been a problem each year and a major component failure with the coil. They basically said, sorry for the inconvenience but we cant do anything except pay half of your last charge (which totaled $274 of $550). It would have been closer to $800 as the labor was 3 1/2 hours but my HVAC company only charged an hour. Sheena **, the escalation rep did nothing but drag her feet for 2 months and offered me real compensation that I deserve.I honestly think I got a lemon or their product just has deteriorated so bad that they cant even stand behind it anymore. I had my downstairs unit replaced the year before this TRANE with a Carrier and havent had the first minutes trouble with it. I wish Id gone with Carrier again! AND, I have both units serviced twice a year for maintenance, so I take care of my investment. DO NOT BUY A TRANE! THEY WILL WRECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT and THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER.

On 3 September we sent an e-mail with a formal complaint about the noise. We have had the Local Authorized Installer visit twice and make adjustments to the furnace and adjust the fan speed (lower the speed). It is now set at the lowest possible speed, which as expected, does not adequately cool or heat our house - the system is on all day to achieve a comfortable level of 73 degrees. On 11 September, the 2nd visit, the 2 person service team agreed that the noise coming from the Furnace Blower was not normal and sounded like metal on metal. Purchased a home with a Trane XV90 furnace, furnace is 7 years old and out of warranty, product failed at 6 years, after the tech spent hours on the phone with Trane tech support he figured out the furnace needed a new main circuit board to the tune of $1200. We had the furnace repaired, everything was fine for 14 months, went to turn on the heat this year to find out no warm air, called the furnace guy to come out and he explained the main board had failed again. This was after spending 2 more hours on the phone with Trane tech support, we called Trane corporate only to find out the replacement board is only warranted for 12 months, and Trane tried to claim they dont warranty replacement parts, the 12 month warranty is from the dealer. So, to cut an already long story short we now have to shell out another 1200 dollars to repair it again. I called Trane customer support and explained my situation, got a nice email response that said SORRY, GOOD LUCK. It would have been far easier for Trane to do the right thing and either replace the clearly defective part or at a minimum offer a prorated reimbursement, but no they dont care! Do yourself a favor, dont buy a Trane furnace, they dont stand behind their products and if anything goes wrong the replacement parts only have a 12 month warranty from the dealer, Trane tried to argue with me that they dont warranty replacement parts. HIDING BEHIND THEIR DEALERS. So much to Cant stop a Trane. Guess what? You can, and they dont care...

In April of 2017 we bought a new Trane heat pump. In early December of 2017 we found out the reversing valve was defective and that was why we had no heat. We asked Trane to replace the unit because we felt it was defective from the factory and they refused. They covered the cost of the part but we had to pay $860 in service charges to have it installed. In June of 2018 we spent another $220 having a fan capacitor replaced. We contacted Trane Consumer Relations and this time they offered to cover part of the labor charges with the condition that that would not be liable for any future charges arising from defects. We knew the equipment had a history of problems and turned down their offer. Now in May of 2020 we are looking at another $800 in service charges to replace a defective and leaking cooling coil. Trane Consumer Relations has refused to help in any way. They told us to go through the service company we are using and have them go to the local distributor. In addition to refusing to do anything to help the supervisor in Consumer Relations was evasive when asked simple questions and refused to answer some questions.

I had a 4 ton Trane heat pump installed 2 seasons ago at my beach cottage. After only 2 seasons, my evaporator coil rusted out and caused a loss of freon. The part was under warranty so my repair bill was only $450. The grate which holds the fan motor has almost corroded to the point fan will not operate safely. When I complained, I was told I live in a high corrosion area which is the cause of my problem. The technician said he sees this problem frequently because the copper and aluminum is from China on the new models (my last unit operated in this same location for 11+ years). Trane needs to do better than this.

I had my Trane XL90 furnace installed by a Trane authorized HVAC dealer man
I had my Trane XL90 furnace installed by a Trane authorized HVAC dealer many years ago. I bought it specifically because they had (still say they do) a lifetime guarantee on the heat exchanger. Something that I knew at the time was a weak point for many brands. Years later my furnace started to fail and Im certain now that I was experiencing high levels of CO in my house. (damp windows) I attempted to patch/seal the holes at the end of the bottom of the heat exchangers. It is a cooler area of the heat exchanger and I imagine condensation was an issues that ultimately created holes and furnace ignition issues from the improper drafting of exhaust gases into my house. For almost two years, I tried to keep it working. I complained to the dealer more than once and they said to contact Trane. I did!On SIX occasions, they basically denied having to do anything for me. They instructed me to contact the dealer and they could likely get me a $250 rebate off a new one. But these crooks know that this rebate is the same as what they were offering everyone. The heat exchanger came with a lifetime warranty, but labor was not included. They kept giving me the excuse that this heat exchanger was no longer available. True, but I bought a lifetime warranty, not a whenever the parts run out warranty. Typically a heat exchanger is an $800 to $900 part; however, they refused to compensate me or offer that amount as a rebate/credit off the new XL90 or a similar models. I ended up with a very nice and efficient Goodman. In talking to several other people about Goodman, they always seem to honor their warranties. TRANE WILL NOT! They are LIARS ! Nothing RUNS away from their warranty like a Trane!

Each time having extra cost and fees associated. Last month 500 bucks for an issue, this month a coil needs replaced. Although the cost of the coil itself is covered by Tranes warrenty, the cost is still almost 1300 in charges for labor and coolant replacement. I would never purchase another Trane. On May 23, 2016 I had a Trane 3 Ton, 16 SEER Condenser & Air Handler installed at my residence. This system uses R410a. On July 25, 2016 the units were no longer cooling, so I went outside to see what was happening. When I looked into the condenser unit I saw that the top of the compressor was cherry red so I disconnected power and called the installer. He came the next day and put some oil in the lines stating it must be a bad TXV valve. So I asked him to get a new one and he said that would not be necessary the oil did the job. It ran for the remainder of the summer. On Aug 15th 2017 the compressor started banging, going on and off, and water was coming out of the emergency drip pan PVC line. So again, I called the installer and he said given what I said happened he will order new parts; compressor and TXV. WELL it is 4 weeks now and still no parts. Call the 800 number you say? I did 5 times, I have a reference number. I know them by first name. Their answer; We understand you are upset. They cant get the parts, WILL NOT replace the units and will not give me my purchase price back. So whats a person to do? NEVER buy a TRANE - they continue to field defective units full well knowing they will break down in less than a year. And from I have read in this column, I am not that confident these replacement parts, should they ever arrive, are not going to be a permanent solution. It important to remember this system failed in less than 2 months of operation.

Trane XB14 Weathertron. I purchased a brand new Trane 3T-15 Seer Air Conditioning/Heat Pump Unit from a reputable company who recommended this unit and completed the install May 2011. Ive been with this A/C company since I moved to Florida 18 years ago, so I trusted their recommendation. I was told Trane was the top of the line and worth paying more to have the best, peace of mind, 10 year warranty if registered within 60 days, etc. Its been nothing but a costly nightmare once the 5 year mark was reached and the 10 year warranty ended up NOT being what was sold to me. Even though the company has been good about some of the items that were supposed to be 10 years, they have haggled with me and TRANE over what is actually covered on the warranty and the period of time. CRAZY! CRAZY!With this major purchase, you would expect to get more than 5 years out of a system without spending additional major $$$. The following are my repairs/replacements since May 2016 to date: EFC control board, capacitor, condenser coil (plus R410 to replace what was lost), another trip to fix a R410 leak as a result of when the condenser coil was replaced, replaced entire circuit board, new blower relay, and thermometer all within a 3 year period. Keep in mind, that not only do you pay for labor to install the warranted item, each visit is a service/diagnostics fee.Today, my system runs constantly causing very high energy bills because the A/C simply cant keep up with the outside temps -- called for service and after diagnosing the units for 1.5 hours, they tell me they cant find anything wrong. The AC Guy told me that they just dont make Trane Units like they used to!! Im very disappointed in Trane products, I wish I would have read these reviews before taking the recommendation of a company I trust, and certainly dont recommend purchasing a TRANE to anyone. Very Disappointed!

Coil Leaking, HVAC person tells us ALL HVAC UNITS are bad now. I hope the title says it all. I purchased a high-end TRANE for roughly $8000 a little over 4 years ago and while still under warranty the coil has been leaking and I ran out of Freon. To fill the unit up to get through the summer I spent about $700 for the coolant. The warranty doesnt cover labor, so even if I order a new coil under warranty, it will cost a fortune to install it, with no guarantee it will perform any better. My HVAC person said theres roughly 350,000 units with bad coils right now. Is there an agency I can call, like an insurance commissioner in our state? I know theres such a thing as a Lemon Law with respect to cars. Can there be a class action suit brought against these companies?

I utilized Lowes in Dec 2013 for the purchase of a total heating/air conditioning system to include new ducts throughout the house in the attic. This work was subcontracted by Lowe’s using a local Heating&Air company (H&A). (I dont know if allowed to say their names). The work was done 6 Jan 2014 through 10 Jan 2014. Feb 4 2014 notified H&A heat pump covered inside and outside with solid ice, came and repaired. Feb 7 2014 H&A tech here as froze again. Feb 9 2014 I called and was told defroster ordered. Feb 13 2014 I called H&A they said they are supposed to expedite the part and defroster is on back order. Feb 17 2014 H&A here and changed defroster. Feb 21 2014 H&A replaced sensor and defroster from icing. Feb 28, 2014 I called H&A heat pump again iced up. 2 March 2014 I notified H&A heat pump fan hitting ice. 4 March 2014 H&A said defroster coming through Customs and should be here end of week or next week. 17 March 2014 H&A said defroster in yesterday (16th March). 18 March H&A changed thermostat in heat pump. June 27 2015 18:55 a/c not working called H&A, was told a tech will call. 19:16 Tech informed he was on another call and would be here next. 21:00 Tech here. Low on Freon. Found leak in air handler coils. He said someone will call Monday to let me know if they have part or will need to order. He replaced Freon. June 29 2015 did not hear from H&A. June 30 2015 11:07 am I called H&A and was told part had to be ordered and should be in tomorrow or Thursday. 14:00pm AC running and room temp at 77 degrees and increasing. Thermostat set at 72 degrees. Turned off AC and have fan on. 2 July 2015 14:18 pm I called H&A and was told part not in yet. 3 July 2015 14:40pm I again called H&A and got recording machine, I did not know they were not opened. 14:47pm I called and left msg with H&A that I again have had no ac all week and no one has bothered to call me to update me on what is going on. I said I would appreciate an update first thing Monday morning since the office is closed today.6 July 2015 11:30 Received call from H&A, he said he will try and track down where part is and call me back. 11:40 am H&A called and said it was on the dock in Little Rock and to be delivered today and H&A will install it tomorrow afternoon. I told him that if it isnt there then someone needs to put Freon in. 7 July 2015 H&A called and said truck driver with parts was in an accident and she was trying to find where part was. She said something about install tomorrow and I told her someone needs to come today and put Freon in today. I also informed her I have a mountain dog and the heat can kill her. She said someone will be here today to either install the part of put Freon in. Currently 95 degrees inside house and 90 degrees outside.7 July @17:10 Tech shows up to add Freon, he does not have part, said was almost empty of Freon. 17:33 still filling with Freon, house 86 degrees. I voiced to tech that I was very upset, that for 12 days and still no part and I had to call to find out any information and I was left without ac for so long. 17:43 completed filling with Freon and left. 8 July 2015 14:30pm one worker here and waiting for another to bring coil. 14:40 other guy here with coil. 16:30 replaced coil and added Freon and left10 July 2015 10:57 am Spoke with H&A and informed her ac set at 70 degrees and in 77 degrees in house, ac not functioning again. She said someone will be out this afternoon to look at it. 11:07 I called and informed H&A that there was fresh water on the wooden platform the air handler sits on. She said to turn off ac and turn on fan- I did this. 14:30 took dog to be boarded, she was lethargic and no ac in house. 15:33 H&A called and said hed be here in 20 minutes. 15:55 Tech here, after he looked over unit I asked what was wrong with it. He said a valve on the coils failed. 16:26 he went to pick up valve at Trane. 18:41 he completed replacing valve and left. 12 July 2015 10:40am called H&A after hours number and told her ac not functioning set at 70 degrees and 77 degrees in house. She said someone will call.11:23 received call from H&A will be here in 20 minutes. 11:25 boarded my dog, very lethargic. 11:47 tech here, said more than half Freon leaked out, recharging unit. 13:00 said leak at junction of heat pump compressor and he could patch it. I said that was NOT acceptable. This is a new unit and not even two years old and patching is not acceptable. I said Trane can replace both units at their expense, poor quality equipment. I said I cannot deal with this anymore and had to walk away. Tech said he will call his boss. 13:20 Tech said his boss would want him to patch leak so that I have air until they can deal with Trane regarding replacement. He did not know how long that would take. He is currently patching leak on outside unit. I told him this is causing me too much stress and I cannot deal with it. I will be seeking what legal avenues I have in the state of Arkansas. I have spent too much money and received inferior parts. 13:48 one of H&A owners called, and said they will talk to Trane tomorrow and will demand Trane do something and he will call me tomorrow. He said he will make it right. He also said he thinks I got a lemon and will push for new equipment. I told him I wanted inside and outside units replaced at Tranes expense. 14:30 Tech finished patching and recharging and left.

Previous home owners spent a good $5,600 on this Trane unit from what I have always heard was the BEST! Installed in 2012, we moved in in 2015. Since winter of 2015 its been non stop issues! All issues has come from the air handler. Since 2015 we have spent a good $2,000 in fixing part after part. Now December 2019 after just spending $600 on it back in October, we are now being told its another $1400 to replace the coil! So far Trane isnt assisting with any of the costs although this unit isnt old at all and we have had issue after issue! We wont be putting more money into this pos we plan to just replace with a carrier unit!

Barely more than 5 yrs ago, I had a gas-fired furnace model TUH2D120A9V5VA installed by a reputable HVAC dealer. Last week during 19 F weather, the blower motor quit costing me $1600 in repairs. I wish I had seen all the complaints on the internet before purchasing my furnace and A/C units. Trane obviously has a Quality problem for which their warranties are inadequate. I will not be purchasing another Trane product and I will make sure that my neighbors (neighborhood & internet) are made aware of Tranes numerous bad reviews. They are obviously more interested in their bottom line than in their products.

2.5 ton HVAC unit defective coil - Unit was installed on May 24, 2014. One month beyond unit installation guarantee on parts and labor the unit quit cooling. The unit originally cost $4,500 and the installer BURGESS AIR CONDITIONING LOCATED IN CLEARWATER FLORIDA does not offer financing. Two years and one month later, we required service and the replacement of the coil which cost us $891. Time to repair unit by obtaining the coil took over 2 weeks. 90+ degree temperature over this period. The part was NOT EXPEDITED for delivery for our unit. Burgess or Trane would not take any action. Would you believe that Trane offered $109 for our inconvenience. Burgess told us where we could buy a portable unit until ours was fixed.

I had a Trane Heat Pump installed January 2014. Initially it was quiet and shut off the same... quietly. Because the compressor is close to my living room wall and the handler is up in the bedroom attic, this issue is quite important to me. The air-handler revs up and pulsates before the unit kicks on and then since it is a two-stage unit, it does the same when it shuts off. Its very annoying when I am trying to sleep at night. The outside unit which is located on the ground outside the living room runs quietly enough until it shuts off. It shuts off very hard and very abruptly causing the metal unit to sound like someone just hit it real hard with a rubber mallet. And then it continues to vibrate probably due to the fact that the metal that is used is so thin it cannot absorb it, I am guessing. Ive heard it go off half way down the block when I am out front. Its kind of startling. I had a routine maintenance check this week and mentioned this to the repair man. He went out and drilled something and it seemed okay but for only two days. Now it is the same as it was before. As far as the air handler, he said that that was its way of talking to the outdoor unit and it was normal. Thats just the way they work he said. All in all, I wish I would not have bought this system. I also will, in the future, deal with a company that takes my concerns seriously and fixes the problem... right. I am stuck with this unit for a while now so I guess I will have to make the best of it... somehow. In the meantime, I plan on calling Trane tomorrow (good luck, huh, from what Ive been reading) to see what might be up. I also will be calling the service company to tell them their fix didnt fix the problem. On the positive side, this system does cool well and my power bills are lower which is a great thing since I live in the desert. However, it is definitely coming at a price... my rest and peace of mind and the peace of my neighbors. Their patio is on the side of where my a/c unit is located.

I purchased a new A/C unit in September of 2018. I have only had the unit for 3 months. Within 3 months I have had to have the coils replaced twice, but that is not the reason for the bad review. The Trane air conditioners are EXTREMELY LOUD! I have to turn my T.V. volume up while the air handler is running. I recently turned on the heat. Each time the heat turns on the unit makes a very loud click. I was told by the repair guy that the clicking is the relay in the heater. I did not have any of these problems with my Carrier and Rheem units. It is very hard to get a good nights sleep with this loud Trane air conditioner. I feel like I wasted $5K!

2012 Trane heat pump lemon - We purchased this through Lowes 8 months ago. We use wood heat in winter so the breaker is shut off 4 months. So far, its 7 attempts to fix error messages. Trane sent rep from corporate office and he fought with GM of Lowes in the living room saying he is so busy with these calls and do not bother him again, to just call service tech. Thats 7 attempts in 8 months. Please, if you are having problems with Trane, lets all get together by email and find a litigation attorney. Im afraid when warranty is up. I have read stories of people replacing coil every year at $1300 a shot. I have Trane xl21 and ad I type. Im waiting for another Trane repair guy? Lowes has done nothing besides the normal, Im so sorry crap. It shuts off with different Err messages. The last time it happened, I thought the dogs had to be dead when I opened the door. We live in North Florida and depend on ac.

Bought a new Trane a/c and had it installed by a local installer. Less than 6 months in the unit ran out of gas and required a new coil. The lack of gas meant the condenser unit was overworked. I had the installer out 3 times before it was running again. I contacted Tranes customer service to request a new condenser as in my opinion the one I have is faulty. I cannot get a response from Trane other than it has been forwarded to our escalation department. I have written to Tranes holding company Ingersoll Rand but they have not responded either. Their ad Nothing stops a Trane rubbish. This one did and their customer service is just as bad.

Im writing this review in regards to Trane air conditioning and heating unit that we purchased in 2015. Just after having unit for six months we had to replace the compressor unit outside. I continue to make calls to the installers of this unit regarding the air-conditioner not cooling. After coming to our house six different times to service the air-conditioner and installing Freon in the unit multiple times. We were told our air-conditioner now require new evaporator coils. The cost would be $995. I then decided to get another opinion of what was wrong with our air conditioner. Each person I had look at the unit had something different to tell me about what was wrong with it. I then decided to call the Trane manufacturer. They gave me a name of a Trane dealer teams. So I called them. They came out, told us that we needed to have the Expansion valve replaced. We did. That was $350, That didnt fix the unit so they had to do a complete unit inspection and have a trane support team tell them what was wrong with it. Now we need evaporator coils replaced. Now its another $950. This air-conditioner is less than two years old and weve had nothing but problems. Trane Will not stand behind their product. Do not buy a Trane.

Purchased a 3 1/2 tn XR 13 heat pump 2-2014. Last week it stopped cooling. Contacted the installer. They found a leak where the coil was connected to the compressor. It was a failed solder connection. This repair cost $1200 mostly the cost of refrigerant R410a. Trane warranty excludes the cost of refrigerants. One disappointed consumer in South Carolina!

I recently found it necessary to replace my 20 year old central HVAC. I contacted a local HVAC contractor in Denver for the job. They replaced my system with new a Trane furnace and A/C system. After waiting in 90 degree heat for 10 days for the equipment to be delivered and another 2 days for installation, when they flipped the switch - nothing! After another day of troubleshooting they discovered that a circuit board was defective! 8 days later, the new circuit board arrived. That finally got the A/C working. After a few days I noticed that the fan noise was really loud, constantly. After another service call, they determined that the fan controller was defective, and oh by the way, the heating was not working. Im sure it will take another 10 days to get a new controller. This is on a brand new, top of the line, $15k system. I strongly recommend that you consider another vendor for your HVAC. Trane clearly has quality control issues.

No one is listening! Trane/Standard does not hold dealers accountable and your products do not perform as advertise and are not reliable. Everyone passes the buck. Do you stand behind your product from assembly line to customer. Or do you pass the buck too. On 2/29/2008, I bought a Trane HV/AC System for $7306.88. The heat pump was an XL14i and the Train Air Handler was an innovation system that was going to be like a breath of fresh air with variable-speed control. Both systems promised very high tech features, to include quiet, high efficiency, durable, clean air, first rate warranties, and reliability -- do this words sound familiar. These are the features that were promised to my wife and me. Now, I have a piece of junk and I will never recommend to anyone to buy a Trane or Standard AC unit. We have to keep replacing parts and it keeps making a clanking noise when the heating cycle shuts-off. Now, the Trane certified service agent states that my units cannot be matched and I have to live with the problem and they will keep charging me for the visits because Trane/Standard Extended Warranty will not cover it. What a mess. Your company is not holding dealers accountable for the services and your product is not reliable. I need help. No one seems to want to do the right thing. They keep passing the buck.

My HVAC service man has just left after sharing the good news that yet another expensive fix is in store for me because of my Trane. My system was installed 5 years and 6 months ago, and wouldnt you know it, my leaking evaporator coil is toast and the warranty is... well yes... 5 years. This another in a long list of failures, repairs, bad contactor, bad capacitor, blown fuses, indoor unit fan not assembled correctly from the factory with evidence that the set screw was screwed down on the round instead of the flat of the shaft (that was a nice sound in the middle of the night btw), coolant added several times during the last 3 years until today finally discovering a huge leak in the evap coil. I guess it finally made its way from a slow leak to a deluge. Last fill lasted 24 hours. This is ridiculous. Stay away from Trane, please!

You can stop a Trane! I had two brand new Trane units installed into my home. Less than two years ago. One of them can’t be fixed. My HVAC guy came out about five times. He’s done everything from change valves to Freon to pulling vacuums etc. Trane won’t stand behind their products, their consumer relations department is useless. Three different people gave me three different responses on how they would or wouldn’t help me. Today a supervisor told me that all of the three people I spoke to are wrong and they can’t help me and won’t. My unit is new and it is installed properly. It doesn’t work! Garbage! Run!!!
