Purchased at Home Depot in 2017 a 40 gallon Rheem Water Heater, paid for installation from handyman. All was well for about a year when the gas assembly unit went out about a year after initial installation. Forward to February 8, 2020 and the water heater quit again. The first time it quit Rheem had a local installer replace the Gas Control Unit part. This time they just sent the part. I installed it last night and nothing. I can ignite the pilot, but it wont stay lit. I called Rheem again and the gentleman said it sounds like the pilot assembly. So now I have to wait for that part to show up... And I have to install the part. I am so over this company and their failed water heater. Shame on Rheem for not standing by their product and doing the right thing. Shame on them for making a grandma install their failed parts. Shame on Rheem.

My A/C was installed May 2010. In Oct. 2013, I had to have entire amount of coolant replenished for over $300. In May 2014, I had the coolant replaced again, and in less than two weeks I need to have it refilled. I cant afford to continue to refill every week or two. I had a Bard air handler for 40 years with no problems, and it was replaced with this. Very dissatisfied.

I had to replace the Rheem hot water heater in my grandmas house 3 times in 2year. This time the heater has a recall on a part that rheem cant even get and even if they could it would still cost me $145 to have someone install it. I have to go buy a new water heater (it will not be rheem again) and the company has an Oh well attitude. I hope this review save people time and especially money. I wish I had read the reviews.

In Feb. 2014 my home warranty company who by their very nature replace covered parts with the cheapest product they can. That’s an issue in and of itself. Sent out a technician who replaced the previous failed water heater with a Rheem 48 gallon tank made in Mexico. It states it right on the model number and serial number sticker. This tank came with a 6 year limited warranty. On 6/28/2020 the tank failed and was leaking out the bottom, luckily I caught it quickly and was able to shut off the water and attach a hose to the tank and drain it before further water damage could occur. I called a plumber who came out first thing in the morning and he took one look at it and confirmed what I knew that it had to be replaced. I asked why this would fail within five months of being out of warranty and he informed me that Rheem is a consumer grade product that’s not very good. As he disconnected the unit and wheeled it away, a stream of red colored water followed it as it exited my garage. I asked the plumber if that was rust and he confirmed that it was.I asked if my whole house water filtration system could have helped the unit fail faster as salt is used in the filtration process. He and my filtration company whom I already had scheduled to come out that day to change our filter medium, both confirmed that this would not have caused this and more so would have helped prolong the system as no sediment would build in the tank.Plumber installed a new tank made in America and told me that this was a solid tank and should easily last 10 years. I contacted the Rheem warranty department and explained my situation and the front line rep stated since I was out of warranty there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with a supervisor as I felt this was just a few months past warranty and how it failed seemed like planned obsolescence.A supervisor called me the next day and I explained my plight and asked if Rheem could do something given the circumstances. The supervisor stuck to his story and kept referring back to the warranty and that he couldn’t do anything. I even asked if they could do some form of partial compensation as I was out $1800 for the new tank and install. He kept to his company line and stated he couldn’t do anything. In business you can ALWAYS do something, especially for exception situations where it’s clear your product failed sooner then it should have. I asked the supervisor if he truly couldn’t do something or is it more the case he wouldn’t do something. That was a little to close to home and we promptly ended the call as I knew I was dealing with a terrible manufacturer who they and companies like them are more concerned with profits then manufacturing and standing behind their product.Rheem is a common brand sold at Home Depot and Lowe’s outlets. My plumber would never touch them because of their shoddy manufacturing. Rheem is a key example of the current discordant atmosphere in this country as their business practices are focused on greed, period. Use cheap labor in Mexico, less than adequate materials for the purpose of the product and make their margins by mass volume through these national retailers. Staff your customer service with minimum wage or barely over minimum wage to dodge claim calls and ultimately only compensate as few claims as possible. It’s more cost effective to staff customer service and train them to avoid claim fulfillment than it is to make good when their products fail. This company should be shut down, liquidate all its assets, attempt compensate customers who were in warranty and denied and proceed down the list as best as possible. Residual if any, should then be used to fund a start up in either America or Mexico or both and bring in best in class manufacturing processes to produce a truly viable product that the new company will stand behind. DON’T BUY OR INSTALL A RHEEM WATER HEATER. Install a better quality tank and pay the extra cost. You will easily recover that cost in performance as well as not having to deal with costs of home and property damage from a failed tank.

Purchased and had installed a new Rheem water heater by Home Depot. The installation went well but the new heater was defective and leaked hot water from the top of the unit... I called the Rheem number listed on the side of the water heater and got a call center where I was placed on hold and then no one ever returned. The second attempt to call resulted in being transferred to a technician who never answered. The third attempt: I was told to dig out insulation from the top of the heater to find where it was leaking and repair it myself. I was also told to go out and buy a plug that was missing from the top of the unit. The fourth attempt: I was told to check the water pressure! Its obvious that the personnel in the Rheem call center are not trained in troubleshooting issues and theyll hang up or transfer you if they dont know the answer to resolving a warranty problem. I had to call Home Depot to get the water heater replaced.

I bought a 75 gallons water heater and it stopped working in 6 months. Contacted Rheem to have it fixed. And they sent me replacement parts while claimed that my labor warranty is not available (on the heaters specification and receipt stated 1 year labor and 6 years parts warranty). They took almost a month to have this issue solved with multiple parts sent. 6 months later, the heater failed again. This time, they want me to get a multimeter and test each components to find out which one fail so they can send me that part. My family is without heated water for another month during this cold winter. I will not buy another Rheem or company related products after this horrible experience.

I hired a licensed contractor to install a new Rheem water heater. After 6 months the new water heater leaked, it had a crack in the tank. The contractor replaced the water heater under warranty. A Couple months later the water heater failed. I contacted Rheem and they sent parts to my house and contacted their approved/authorized contractor to replace the parts. When the repair was made, their contractor dented in the side of the tank. When I contacted Rheem they told me it is not their problem and that I need to take it up with their contractor and that I would never be able to prove it. Their contractor does not respond to any forms of communication. The Rheem representative were very rude and unprofessional. So I paid ~$2,000 for a damaged, unsightly water heater. Plus, is it safe? Will the damage cause the tank to rupture or leak hot water?

This water heater was installed in my new home by the building contractors
This water heater was installed in my new home by the building contractors plumber for around $800.+. I had no control as to the choice. It recently stopped working and I had a friend who is a certified heating and air conditioner contractor. He said that the heater is leaking from the top and fills up the blower and shuts off the exhaust. There as a safety will not turn on the burner. He removed the water from the blower and the heater worked for two weeks. Loaded up with water again. I never was given a copy of the warranty, so I did not know about the six years expected life on this expensive heater. I have had two other homes and never had a water heater that did not last 15 to 20 years and they did not cost $800+. I called Rheem, but warranty is no more, which would not have made any difference, from what I read from others that had the same model 41VRP4ON, and got no response. My heater has been fixed again and is expected to run for another two weeks, until the blower fills up again. When I finally give up on it, the service man says he is going to take it apart and expects poor welding by the manufacturer where the pipes goes into the top. No heater would leak from the top in less that 6 years if it was properly put together and inspected. I will certainly let my contractor as well as the others know about this brand, in order that others are not cheated out of their money!

Previous water heater was leaking. Contracted plumbing company to have water heater replaced. They recommended Rheem Water Heater (Model # 22V40FN). Installation Date: 02/17/2012. Paid $850.00. 12/7/2013 - Thermocouple had to be replaced. Part was covered, paid for labor $175.00. 04/24/2014 - No hot water again... Plumbers came out, re-lit pilot light, paid labor $75.00. They said nothing is wrong with unit and to contact PG& E to do safety check. PG&E came out and found nothing wrong with the areas surrounding the water heater. They checked the pilot light and said it would go out again. Problem with water heater itself. Contacted plumber again and they dont know what the problem is. 05/09/14 - No hot water again. Contacted a couple of different plumbers but they refused to work on Rheem products. Contacted Rheem Technical Support and they gave me telephone numbers for two plumbers that were in my area. 1st one said they will charge a service fee of $110.00 just to come out and second one didnt return phone call. Will never ever buy a Rheem product again.

What happened to the Rheem quality that I grew up with. This unit is only 3 years old and began leaking at the base below the lower T-Stat. It caused severe water damage to the interior of my unit. My plumber shared that the quality control on the assembly line is poorly managed. Examples of units that have failed revealed only partial interior glass lining which instantly began rusting and a thinner gauge of metal used to build the tanks.

We have a Rheem air conditioner that was installed March 2017. Since then it’s broken twice. The first time it was a simple fix as the defroster board needed to be fixed. Not a big issue as the repair company could do it quickly and only cost $250. It breaks again 7 months later in the middle of August in Florida. The condenser coil has a leak which caused all the Freon to leak out and burn out the compressor. None of that is an easy fix and will end up costing us $1900 for a unit that’s less than 3 years old. Called and talked to Rheem and they are unwilling to help. All they’ll tell you is the parts are under warranty and there’s nothing else they can do and will hang up on you. So unless you want to be spending thousands of dollars in labor every year to get it fixed and deal with the worst customer service I would stay far far away.

We installed a brand new Richmond 40 Gallon (Rheem) water heater which we purchased from Menards. It has a faulty Thermal shank. This has left me (and a renter) out of hot water for 3 days, while waiting for the part to arrive. Unfortunately no one has the part in town and there are no service technicians for the Saint Paul Minnesota area. I have called 15 plumbers off the list that was sent to me and I had difficulty finding one who will come out on short notice. I will not trust that I can have someone arrive after hours (@$259 an hour) and still be reimbursed. I will have a person tomorrow morning, but that means I will literally be boiling water for my renters bath. I am not looking forward to the paperwork I need to fill out for my claim. And I am disappointed that I will need to wait for my check to clear as proof of payment before finishing my claim. This is just more of a time delay to an already time consuming situation. This purchase has hurt my rental business. I will encourage others to buy another brand - especially Rental Managers and landlords who cant afford this type of hassle. I wish I could have just returned the product, but it is already filled with water and the gas and water lines are installed. I dont dare try to haul it back to the store for fear that it would be damaged on the way and then Id have an even bigger drama on my hands. And one more frustrating bit to this is the wait time when calling in. It was near a half hour. (Though the service line is faster).

I purchased a 30-gallon Rheem water heater on Black Friday 2014. And it worked fine for about 45 days. Then I had to light the pilot light for the first time. So the heater worked for several day after. Then I had to light the pilot again and it worked for several more days, again. Thereafter, the pilot light had to be lit, but then would only stay on less than an hour. Then I lit again. The next day it was out. So I called tech support and they ask for pictures of install. I send. By this time, I call my plumber who installed unit. He could not get it going. So I call tech support again, they say thermal couple is bad and they send one. Their plumber comes out to install and the darn heater still wont light. So he call company and tells them its the igniter switch wire is bad, they send that out. Their plumber comes back, installs switch, gets the heater going. Within an hour, its back out. So I call tech support yet again, the guy says its the control now, so hell send that. Now it wont light, so hot water. This has been a nightmare. I will not buy another unit from this company, this has been hell. Stay away, you wont regret it.

Your product and customer service is a complete joke. I purchased one of your hot water heater in March. From day one we had problems. Finally after a week of no hot water and your customer service department playing games and the service company you referred playing games, we were able to get a new hot water heater. With that said, that hot water heater has been leaking since day one. I called and they sent me out a replacement part but, still it is leaking. I then called in today and spoke to a miserable supervisor named, Shakir.I called to get service along with request that my warranty that will expire in March be extended. He was rude and to the point of advising no and that he will get the service company out. For 2 hot water heaters to go in less than a 9 month period. What is that saying about your product. Also not extending the warranty even shows your own company doesnt stand behind its own product. Unbelievable! I will never purchase anything with your name attached to anything again!

As part of a major remodel project, which included new plumbing and gas lines, we had a Rheem tankless water heater installed in the summer of 2012. In about 7 months we began to have trouble. When the hot water was turned on somewhere in the house, the tank would attempt to fire up but wouldnt actually ignite, and then the unit would flash an error code #11. The person needing hot water would wait and wait for it but would never get it. This happened more and more frequently. The plumber who installed it sent a Rheem rep out who blamed it on insufficient gas pressure, without actually testing the pressure. HVAC guy said we had large supply line to the unit. Rheem manual (only obtainable online) was of no help. Finally after months of a continually worsening problem, a person on the Rheem help line told us it was probably dirty ignition coils. She gave us instructions on opening up the unit and gently cleaning the fragile coils. Now we have to do this complicated process every few months. Very annoying! And the most frustrating thing is that my friends with other brands of tankless heaters have never had to do anything to theirs after many years and they LOVE their tankless heater. I HATE mine!

The company recalled the unit. It started a fire in my house. They didn’t bother to ask if everyone was ok after the fire. They wanted to repair the damaged water heater. It was totaled. The fire department pulled out the electrical system to make sure the fire was out. I sprayed a whole can of fire extinguisher in my garage. Made a huge mess. Didn’t care. I called. They said they would find a technician. They didn’t. I had to find one. Finally after a lot of calling found one. Got amount authorization from them. I submitted my invoice twice instead of invoice and receipt, resubmitted with corrected info. Now they want my credit card bill to verify the receipt was real!!! They all need to be subjected to having on fire in their home. So they also won’t cover the extra $200 for the new water heater which I wouldn’t of had to get if the one they sold hadn’t started on fire. So please don’t ever buy anything from them. I contacted customer service 479-648-4900 and spoke to Cody regarding having to install another aluminum coil after 16 months. She explained; “The coil is under warranty for five years however the homeowner is responsible for the cost of all labor and refrigerant.” Well the cost for labor and refrigerant is $1400 to remove a defective coil and install another (no doubt) defective coil. After reading through other reviews of RHEEM’s defective coils and the cost to remove and install, I’ve decided to replace their crap with a reliable system. Taking into consideration that their coils continue to fail, I anticipate having to pay $100-$150 a month as a cost to owning a RHEEM HVAC system. I will also be posting my comments on other sites, not only to inform prospective buyers, but to seek relief from govt agencies since this is a consumer issue that Rheem is fully aware of!

Rheem purchased 10/2014. First call started Spring 2015. Pilot light kept going out. Get up to go to work - cold water. Called Rheem warranty number which by the way are the most dismissive, unfriendly and disrespectful customer service employees l have ever spoken with. Their CEO and CFO should really try using their customer service department. My first call the employee said it must be dust or dirt. l ask why this never happened to my old less expensive water unit - no answer. Months later same pilot problem - doesnt stay lit. Second call girl tells me it cant be the unit. l must have a gas leak or something about cubic feet of air in my garage. She told me l would need to call my local Pacific Gas and Electric Company which l did. Everything was good . NO GAS LEAKS and heater was in a space off the ground, with plenty of cubic ft. Third call l get a male employee. By now my unit is going out 2-3 times a week. He was the rudest one yet. They are sending me a new pilot ignition part, still not received. However even under warranty, its up to me to find a contracted Rheem plumber. They couldnt even recommend someone to call. l ended up calling Home Depot which gave me a local number. If l was a buyer for Home Depot l would stop all purchases of any Rheem water heaters from my own experience along with all these other reviews. Similar to some of the stories I have read here, I had the displeasure of owning a Rheem Power Vent water heater. There was trouble from the start. Ive previously spent close to $700 on labor for covered repairs.” Today was the last straw. The blower was gone again! It’s another $350-400 in labor to replace. We told them to yank the Rheem and give us something that would work. Here is the list: a blower (twice), a valve that went bad, and something with the electronic unit all inside of five years! Sure, the part is covered, but I cant afford this piece of junk. Until this water heater, I had owned three others at various homes over 17 years and never once had a repair. Bought a new Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater and was installed in new home in August 2015. Worked for three months, then had issues with NO hot water. Getting error code. Contacted company and after several attempts and disconnects finally got someone. Was told that the venting was improper and to contact plumber to have them look at it and then send the bill for reimbursement. We did as we were told, changed venting per their specifications and still does not work correctly. Plumbing company contacted Rheem and they sent new blower assembly. This was replaced and did NOT fix the problem. Again contacted Rheem spent over 2 hours trying to get someone. Finally got someone in another department who transferred to supervisor. They have supposedly contacted Menards to reimburse us for the bad water heater, but now are refusing to reimburse us for the bill that was incurred by having a plumber come out. They are stating we did not provide the correct documentation showing a defect. Bill was sent that we received from plumbing company stating their fees.We cannot understand why no one is looking into this company regarding all these issues that this company is having with their bad product and NOT honoring their warranty. This company is causing frustrations on customers that should not be happening and not honoring anything in their warranty booklet. Nor are the phone numbers that they are listing on this warranty numbers that consumers are able to get through. When talking to the supervisor I brought this issue up and even asked him if he has ever tried calling the number listed. He said frankly no. I asked him to please do this as well as forward this on to individuals that are higher up so that they are aware of this issue. I would seriously hope that this company look into their issues with their products and take note of what consumers are dealing with.

We purchased a new A/C unit on March 12, 2014 for a secondary home in Fla. This unit is not a rental. It is used by us a few months a year. We purchased the property a few years before and it still had the original a/c, so we decided to be safe and buy a new one. MISTAKE! We used a local A/C company in that area and purchased a RHEEM along with the semi annual maintenance contract. We recently made a trip to Fla and found that the a/c wasnt working and that it also froze up causing wet floors. We called our A/C company. The cost was 500.00 to come out on Monday 1/2 (a holiday). We were only there a few days and needed to get it fixed to prevent mold/mildew. They needed to put a dye in the system to see if there was a leak. Well there were multiple leaks. So for an addtl 586.00 for labor they would fix it. Their warranty is a joke! Rheem knows that their products are defective and they only last a short period. They should have to pay for the labor to fix their defective product. I wish we could bond together and go after them for a selling faulty products and hold them accountable for costs associated with their defects. This is the United States of America, we deserve more.

After getting connected to the shipping dept, I was ask to give them $30 to overnight the part to fix the 6 month old water heater. It’s unacceptable to ask the customer to pay to ship the parts to fix their products. Rheem manufacturing process failed, and now they want the customer to help defray the cost. The part should be overnighted at their expense.. It would very easy to avoid that cost... BUILD A QUALITY PRODUCT...

Purchased a water heater from Rheem and it stopped heating after 12 months and 1 week. Rheem said it is out of labor warranty and they will send me replacement parts which they did, but I had to spend additional $298 to have them replaced. DO NOT EVER PURCHASE ANY PRODUCTS FROM RHEEM. Instead, spend a little bit more money on a better product from another manufacturer. Rheem also offers the same crappy products under Ruud, Richmond, Paloma, Solahart, Splendid, and GE.

Update to my post earlier today. The third Rheem hot water heater 50 gal, tall version was bought this evening. I installed it because we need baths and I cannot wait for Rheem. I bought this Rheem from Penco instead of Home Depot. Now I do love Home Depot and their customer services is splendid. However , I have learned that Rheem makes different models of the same types for different distributors. Looks like to me Pencos unit cost $476 instead of HD price of $418. Guess what happened? Pencos Rheem was installed and did not leak at all, no leaks, we are finally taking baths. So HD has a cheaper version and its also less quality. Why cheaper if it leaks? Give me Penco. I love ya HD, but I had to stop smelling. Lol.

I am a maintenance technician at a town home complex that had 30 Rheem power vent water heaters installed in them 4 years ago. Of the thirty heaters I have had to replace, 21 gas control valves, I have to call because they are under warranty yet. But our tenants have had to wait 7 days for the part to show up to fix the problem. Rheem knows they have a problem because after giving them the model and serial numbers from the I.D. plate, they send out a new valve. My issues are angry tenants because they have no hot water and I have received repair calls every day of the week, weekends and late in the evenings or very early in the mornings. I even had a replacement gas valve go bad so they have not fixed the problem from what I can see. The operator at the service center told me that I had already replaced a valve on a unit after he checked the serial number, and I told him he was right it was. Now we just built another 24 unit complex here and after begging the owners to not put these in they still put the exact units in here. All I can say is Rheem must give a big push to contractors to keep moving this brand.

This is to anyone who is considering a RHEEM hot water heater. I just purchased the 50 gallon 40K BTU unit and I have had no luck getting it to ignite. I called the service number and they told me it was a faulty igniter. They gave me an option to have it overnighted or look for it locally. I found the part locally but they told me to check the igniter out of casing first because they usually dont fail. Long story short it was not the igniter. Through a secondary check the RHEEM tech figured out it was the entire gas control box. I now have to wait for 2-3 business days for the entire assembly. I just paid $600 from HD and my family has no hot water for 4 days! ITS A TOTAL JOKE. DONT BUY THEIR JUNK!

We had a new air handler installed in our condo in the spring of 2014. Since that time, we have had the evaporator coil replaced three times and the blower motor replaced once. Although Rheem offers a ten year warranty for the parts, they will not pony up for labor for the customers out of pocket expenses. It cost me $1450. Despite the fact the coils are obviously defective, Rheem will not take any responsibility for a product that is less than reliable. They are so bad that they currently are saddled with a class action lawsuit. Save yourself a lot of money and buy a product from a credible manufacturer who offers a reliable product.. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR.... DO NOT BUY A RHEEM AIR HANDLER.

I bought a Rheem water heater in June. Well 5 months later, it started showing errors on the gas control. Also I would sometimes have hot water and other times I would not. Had their service techs come and try and fix. Called Rheem Numerous times and they said it was the gas control and sent me a new one. The tech comes over and installs the new gas control and guess what still doesnt work and I have no hot water. I call Rheem and they say we will send you another gas control. I say you just sent me a brand new one. He says Yes I know. I say I have a family with no hot water for two weeks now and I want you to get me a new water heater under the warranty as its only 5 months old. Rheem says no we wont do that. So I had to buy another water heater and not Rheem of course because I had no hot water heater that would work and all three techs said they couldnt fix it and Rheem wouldnt replace it. Rheem doesnt stand by their warranty. I called Rheem again and told them Im going to have to take them to small claims court and they said ok, good luck to you. This company is horrible and doesnt stand by their work or warranty. I asked them to reimburse me for the water heater and they said no.

We had a Rheem two-stage R-410A Heat Pump (4 ton) (2 speed) outdoor unit with matching 4 ton air handler (variable speed) installed in September 2014 by Home Depots contractor ARS with county permit. We know it was professionally installed correctly. We signed up for the service program with twice yearly inspections for maintenance. Everything checked out until our March 2017 service call when it was discovered that the static pressure was too high. When the air handler panel was removed you could see that 2/3rds of the A coils was covered with frost, a result of internal restriction. Also, on close examination, you could see rust all around the tubes where they came out and went back (U shape). My contractor did a replacement installation of the coil unit. The unit itself was covered by Rheems 10 year warranty but not the labor, so I was out $997. This for a coil unit that was not 3 years old, the date of manufacture was July 2014, installed September 2014. Very poor quality. What is most interesting is that the replacement coil unit is all aluminum. The contractor/installer said all the new Rheem units similar to mine now come with the all aluminum coil units. This tells me that Rheem knew it had junk and switched out to the all aluminum, which will not have a rust issue and hopefully not an internal issue with restrictions.

Rheem does not honor their warranty. My plumber installed two Rheem water heaters in my two family and it worked great for two years. Three months ago, one of them burst at the bottom and flooded my basement. It was not a problem because I got 6 or 7-year warranty on the product. I then called Rheem they confirmed that the product is under warranty. They gave me a return number and advised me that I should take the defective heater back to where I purchased it.The contractor took it back but the distributor where it was originally purchased said that they will not exchange. I contacted Rheem and they told me to try another distributor--same thing, no exchanges. I called several more and asked Rheem if they could ship me one they said no. This has been ongoing for three months so I eventually contacted the BBB. Rheem said that they would give me a fair market value. This turns out to be about $400 when a new heater cost is about $800--not fair at all. Please do not purchase from Rheem because they do not honor their warranty. I purchased a different brand to replace the defective one. You will get ** when your heater fails. I had to pay an additional $400 for a new heater.

Rheem Gas 50 Gal Hot water Heater - Installed 11/02/2013. In August 2014, pilot light started going out. It would re-light and heater would work for a few days. Then pilot would go out again. Repeated this scenario several times. Called installer who referred me to warranty service man. Fixed at no charge but I was told that it was going to fail again, and while the part would be free, a service charge would apply after 1 year of installation. Service man said it is a design flaw, probably caused by the Closed Heating Chamber and the unit was not getting enough ventilation. Corrosion from carbon monoxide damaged the thermal coupling and would re-occur. Rheem Customer Service offered no advice or help.

Two months after purchasing three Rheem hot water heater on July 6, 2015, the water started smelling like rotten eggs in two of them. Contacted Home Depot where I purchased them. They told me the heaters were still under manufacturers warranty. I contacted Rheem numerous times via email on Rheems website and did not get a reply. Home Depot then gave me their number. Spoke with a representative who told me it was not their problem it was my water. I explained about the other heater that did not smell. She said I would have to purchase a chlorinator for each heater about $250 ea. and sent me an email with information where to buy them. I said it was the anode rods and they said that was not covered under the warranty. After that, a friend would flush the heaters with hydrogen peroxide and that would help until I went out of town. I was tired of asking him to do this so contacted Home Depot again on Jan. 8, 2017. This time they told me to call Asurion, the extended warranty I bought. That was a huge waste of time and money as they gave me the runaround too! After reporting Home Depot to the BBB, I was contacted and they contacted Rheem. Rheem called a plumber, told them to call me to call them to open a claim with them. I called Rheem and they told me the same thing they told me a year and a half ago. So Im back to square one.

First I advise not to go through Home depot cause even though they install, they do not service. Secondly, run when you hear Rheem. I thought one of top companies for heaters, but found customer service practices nightmarish. Why would you ever do business with technicians who would not service your customer areas. I will be writing whomever I have to, because that is just lousy customer service. The customer have to find a technician to fulfill the labor part of the warranty. Whatever happened to our country where you buy a product and a so called solid company stands behind it and makes the customer experience pleasant at best. I purchased Rheem water heater in May 2017 form Home Depot. After installation it didnt heat water in 24 Hrs. $350 paid to plumber. Then go back again to HD and buy another one which also after another $350 installation stopped working after a day. Plumber has no clue how to debug this as the unit is completely closed, no way to see if even pilot light is on. It has 5 LEDs but the code can be deciphered into many different things that could be wrong. Then my property manager cleaned the blower and it worked again for 15 months. It seems just by sitting in Home Depot it collects dust in the blower. Then when it stops to run again after 15 months, I get another supposedly Rheem certified plumber to debug it and pay $195 to basically get bad reviews of Rheem and no real debug information. I call Rheem many times and get a part shipped by them which again after calling the plumber and paying $200 doesnt work. I then start to debug it myself with tech support and this time they want to send me blower. By now 5 days have gone by with tech support, Fed Ex shipment, etc. But they miss sending me the blower and I lose one more day. By now I have lost over $700 dollars on plumbers for this Rheem water heater. I call the tech support, give them piece of my mind and of course she has no empathy for me and escalates the call. The customer support manager is very well trained (A+), listens to my frustration, empathize with me, apologizes and reacts right away by authorizing a return to HD. So, I go to HD and after spending another 1.5 Hrs I could return it with help of a plumber (spend money again on the plumber). But I did get back full refund of $965 + Tax for the water heater in Home Depot store credit (not the best option but better than nothing). I am overall very unhappy with Rheems quality but I doubt if any other brand is any better. It seems A. O. Smith is also as bad. I have taken a leap of faith now on Bradford White as thats what my plumber sells and installs. So, basically I am out about $1100 dollar for choosing Rheem (2 installations, 2 repair visits) plus so much grief and days without hot water.

I had a Rheem water heater in my new house, only 3 1/2 years old. It ended up being defective and needing replacement. It was very difficult getting any assistance in replacing it. I found a plumber to assist with the installation. I found the wholesaler where my builder purchased the water heater. After 9 months dealing with the wholesaler, I finally was able to get a water heater. I paid the plumber $550.00 for installation, knowing that Rheem would likely cut me a check for this cost. Found out, Rheem was going to let me eat this cost. I would not have incurred this cost if it were NOT for a defective water heater. Hot water heater pilot light problem. I purchased a hot water heater on October 21, 2015 and on January 14 no hot water! I was told to call our local gas provider PG&E. A Home Depot employee told me I would have to call the manufacturer and gave me the phone number. The employee from Home Depot stated that the manufacturer would have to give Home Depot permission to accept the defaulted product. On January 20, 2016, I called the manufacturer and described to him what had happened and read the Pacific Gas & Electric statement to him and he said that they would not allow Home Depot to take it back and exchange it. Purchased a brand new Rheem hot water heater from Home Depot in 2018 and right out of the box it was DOA. It says right on the side of the heater to not return it to the place of purchase but rather to call Rheem customer service (which is the worst customer service). Three days later (without hot water) I received a replacement controller. $225 later a plumber installed it and it still would not work. Two more calls to Rheem (they called themselves Rheem because they ream you) and they ship a replacement pilot light kit. $180 for a plumber to install and after many attempts it lights and heats. Works great for a couple months and then the pilot light goes out. Many attempts later and another $120 visit by a plumber they fix it and it now works for close to a year before the pilot light goes out again. Call the plumber and $120 he resolves the issue after three more days of waiting for the part. Works this time for a year and now two and a half years after purchase it dies again. Three days without hot water and multiple calls to Rheem (ream) and they are shipping a replacement part (oh by the way if you want expedited shipping that costs $30 but it still takes two days). I finally got done. It is not worth the hassle of dealing with this company and their garbage product so I am replacing this piece of crap with an AO Smith. The sad thing is that two plumbing companies told me not to purchase Rheem and I did because they had the better warranty. Well the warranty is useless if your only option is two wait for three days for the part and then you still have to pay the plumber to install it. Note to self. 10/11/19 I bought a Rheem 50 gallon hot water heater with a 10-year warranty. Model #: PROE50 T2 RH95. Serial #: Q401935323. 10-Year Warranty #:02-0415647. Installation by the Water Heater Guys was done professionally. When I tried to register the 10-year warranty, it was entered incorrectly as a 6-year warranty. Both Rheem & The Hot Water Heater Guys say they agree that I have a 10-year warranty, but my registration can’t be changed to show it. I must keep my water heater stickers & invoices to prove I bought it with a 10-year warranty, if I ever need it. Sound true? It is!

Rheem gas water heater model 22V40F1 leaked 8 months after 6 year warranty
Rheem gas water heater model 22V40F1 leaked 8 months after 6 year warranty expired. No help from installer or Rheem on replacement price. Poor quality item made in Mexico. I will NEVER buy a Rheem product again, as they sure Rheemed me! Paid $800 for what I thought was a quality product installed. My original lasted almost 25 years made by American Water Heater Co.

I bought a Rheem heating and air unit back in 200. The whole thing is going out now. Had a warranty for 5 years. Shortly after the warranty expires have to put a new fan motor. The electric component on a side went out and now the compressor is out which run anywhere between 1700 and $3,000 and theyre saying that my condenser looks like it might be going out so I need a whole new unit on top of all this. My heater motor bearings are going out so now I need a whole new unit.Poor customer service from Hannah here in Andover, Kansas. Ive read a lot of customer complaints. It seems to me these the Rheem manufacturers cannot get their act together so its time for somebody to do something. A new unit could cost me between $5,000 to $6,500 and up not including the parts and labor that Ive already paid for poor quality parts. What is anybody going to do about this? I am the man that will do something if theres lawsuits that need be filed so be it and Im sure with 300 other online reviews and customer complaints a lot of will go a lot with us. My Rheem 50 gallon water heater started leaking after 4 years and was replaced. Rheem refused to honor the their warranty, mind you the heater broke after 4 years! We also have a water softener to mitigate leak issues. Left on hold multiple times for long periods. Obviously symptomatic of the many issues with their cheaply made products. Would never buy from this company again and recommend avoiding at all costs. Their reps are not courteous and don’t give a crap. Rheem wanted me to bring back the broken water heater to the place of purchase. Of course the previous plumber who installed it bought it so no clue where they purchased. Why would I need to return a broken water heater??? Answer, to make it difficult for customers to get compensated. The warranty is terrible and not worth the paper its printed on but more importantly, the water heater broke after only 4 years. Terrible product, customer service and terrible company.

I purchased a Rheem water heater in June 2014 from Home Depot. The tank failed several days ago. I tried warranty service over the last several days and I got a message it wasnt in service, try later... Or wrong serial number. Today I called the 800 621 5622 and got a customer service rep. He tells me to bring it back to Home Depot for adjustment. Home Depot doesnt deal with Rheem anymore. Cant even special order. Parts can only be obtained from their authorized plumber and any regular plumber wont touch or recommend Rheem for obvious reasons. Essentially Rheem warranty program is a sham. My recommendation: Dont buy anything from Rheem. Model # XG48TOGEN40UO S # RHUNM181401735 manufactured 29/4/14.

I wanted to buy a Rheem Lifetime warranty Marathon hot water tank. They advertise that it will never need changing and will save you so much money in the long run. I was so excited I would never have to change it again... it seemed worth the extra cost... for sure. Luckily I remembered that my insurance requires that hot water tanks be changed every 10 years so I asked the insurance if they will accept this lifetime unit forever and they said NO. My insurance told me that 99% of insurance companies will still require that the unit be changed after 10 years regardless of the manufacturers warranty claims. Note: I am in Canada. Buyer beware!!!!

Well bought a water heater July 2020. Now Oct 7 pilot light won’t stay lit. Called company that installed it and they came out and said there is recall for these Rheem water heaters. Unit made in 2020 had a gas valve made incorrectly (also made in China). Rheem notified its vendors and sent kits (made in USA) to repair issue. These we to be install free as they went bad. What is needed is the new control module and new burner to match. Techs are replacing now. So I guess In a year we’ll know if works.I post this because I read a lot of self installers talking to Rheem and just replace certain parts. Since the gas control module is paired burner you need both. The China made one the open for the gas was too small and would start to fail after 6 months to a year. So if youre just replacing the one part it’s a mismatch. And will still give you trouble. It really the match of thermal coupler to the Burner but they changed it anyway.

I replaced my old water heater at my rental property after 15 years and due to the small space I have, I purchased a "Performance Platinum" little over 5 years ago. It's been working well and tenants are happy. Couple of weeks ago the pilot stopped working and wouldn't stay ON. Looked up in YouTube and found a few Very Useful clips by professional repairmen. The "Gas Valve" had stopped working and needed to be replaced. Called Rheem's Customer Service Dept and on the phone they suggested the same thing as I explained the problem. They actually sent me 2 parts they thought needed. One was the Thermocouple and the other one a Gas Valve. I had already cleaned the Thermocouple but they still sent me the part to make it easier for me. I replaced the Gas Valve and problem solved. Yes I did happily pay $30 to expedite the shipping which made it 2 days. I am very happy with the Water Heater and very happy with the Customer service dept. But I think Honeywell should make better quality Gas Valves. Because a Gas Valve in my experience should work well over 12 to 14 years, especially Honeywell. Thanks Rheem.

On Tuesday, May 1, 2018 my water heater, which was purchased and installed on 8/28/17 stopped working. We contacted Rheem and was told that they would send a replacement part and would send someone to install it. After we received the part, Rheem told us that they did not have anyone to service our area and we would have to find our own person. We contacted several companies and we finally found someone to come out, but they wanted to be paid at the point of service. The contractor informed us that it was the wrong part, so we contacted the company again and they sent us another part. The new part arrived on Friday, May 4, 2018 and after installation the contractor informed us that the machine needed to be replaced. We contacted Rheem again and they told us that they would put in a request for replacement through one of their companies and we would be contacted within 24 hours. We waited the entire weekend and Monday morning to be contacted. Finally, we called Rheem back and they gave us the number to the contractor whom they sent the order. The contractor told us that they told Rheem that they do not service the area. We contacted Rheem again and they told us that they would need 24 more hours to contact another company. On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, I was told by a rude representative that they have done all they can do and she would transfer me to another department, who she said could help me. I spoke with a new rep who was more understanding of the fact that I have not had hot water in over a week; however, he put me on hold and transferred me to another department. I spoke with another rep who told me that I can find a person on my own because it was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with a manager and she told me to hold on and transferred me to Fidelity Bank. We have not found a company who are wants to work with this company and no one can help us with this faulty product.

I bought a Rheem water heater, Model ELD80B, 14 months ago and was told it had a 4-year warranty. The heating element leaked and failed. I was told it would take 2 to 3 days to get a part. We are in the restaurant business and would have to close. I found the part at an appliance part house for $44 and hired a company to pick it up and bring to my store for $112, then called the company that sold and installed the heater (United Plumbing - Woodland Hills, CA) and they sent out a tech and it took about 30 minutes and I was charged an additional $475. I called Rheem and was told to read the fine print. They would only cover the whole unit if it had to be replaced and if it could be repaired like my unit did, it would not be covered.

On 8/2/2013 I purchased a 5 ton a/c system model# RPHLHM6024JC, serial # W201312660 from ARS. On 2/12/15, a leak on the outside unit, which resulted in loss of freon, had to be fixed. This was deemed a manufacturers problem. After a long argument ARS decided to pay for the repair. On 3/17/2016, during a routine servicing, the tech advised me of another manufacturers problem - a leaking evaporator coil resulting in loss of R410 refrigerant. I was told workmanship will be $585.00 (part is covered by Rheem). Two major problems tell me that this product is a LEMON. I think Rheem should stand behind its products and do not make consumers, especially the elderly, bear the burden of its shoddy manufacturing process. I am just one of the hundreds of Rheem customers who have claimed about their products and I hope some agency will make this company shoulder its burden.

Please dont purchase a rheem heating/ac unit. I purchased a Rheem unit in November 2014 and my ac unit has already gone out twice this summer. I have been dealing with this problem since April through August 2016. I have had an ac tech person come to my residence on several occasion trying to find out why my ac unit doesnt hold the freon that was put in come to find out it was leaking freon in the coil; the ac tech guy ordered a new coil which I had to pay for the shipping cost and after installation on the new coil it still leaked freon only at a faster level. The freon would go out after 24 hours of being put in the system.I spent a $3500 on this unit only to be a piece of junk, save yourself the time and trouble on the product and dont buy at all. I have already emailed the company they called but no return call at this time. I dont understand why Consumer Affairs doesnt have this product or company pay for the problems it is causing if you read the reviews many people are going through the same problem. This company should not be selling products at all they are already in trouble for selling faulty water heaters.

I have a Rheem water heater and the upper thermostat went bad in a unit that is less than a year old with me. Called the support number on the unit due to no hot water. Troubleshooted it and they said they had to have me call an electrician to check the unit for proper power. I did and the unit has a bad upper thermostat. Rheem support argued with me about the electrician did not do the right testing but yet they are sending me a upper thermostat anyway, the support person did nothing to help the customer and I called back and it got worse from there. The other customer service person argued with me that the power was wrong and the unit was hooked up wrong but yet the unit worked fine for the first 7 month I have had it.I had this unit installed by a professional plumber company that does these all day long and I was surprised he could tell how it was hooked up from his chair at his house WOW!!! Rheem has wizards working for them now!!! This type of support was so bad and as the customer I am wrong because from their home where they sit answering the phone they can tell how I have this unit installed wrong even after having professional people look at it. WOW Rheem you have the best employees on the face of the earth!! So if you buy a Rheem hot water heater be prepared to have your family suffer on a SUNDAY of all days to run out of hot water and get their wizard support team to tell you the customer how wrong you are and how you installed their unit wrong. Lesson learned here DO NOT BUY RHEEM!!! For anything!!!! Four day wait before I have hot water again and another $200 to have their junk installed. Really. THANKS RHEEM. NOT!!!!

Tankless water heater model # RMTG-74 PVN-2 - For the past several months we have been having issues with our Richmond tankless water heater. Our hot water is intermittent. It will start to work then shut off and produce only cold water. We have done all the preventive maintenance required, replaced a gas line, and had a plumber clean the burner unit. The water heater worked for about a month after she cleaned the burner, then the same problem occurred again, always a c2-11 error. Tech support sent us a new burner unit, which we had installed only to have the problem continue. I just got off the phone with tech support again and went through the diagnostic procedure again. I couldnt get the problem to replicate and tech support told me that I didnt have a problem because it is working and if the problem happens again I should call them when it happens wtf!!!! While talking to tech support the hot water quit finally and she told me that it was my problem because they sent me a new burner unit and that should have fixed the problem or it was the gas companys fault. This water heater worked perfectly for four years and worked fine for a month after the burners were cleaned, but now its a gas problem. We have other gas appliances and all are working fine. I didnt do a lot of research before we went with a tankless water heater and that is my fault, but hopefully someone is reading this now and will avoid Rheem/Richmond. Dont buy one of these or any of their products for that matter.

16 year old water heat started leaking. I replaced it with a Rheem 50 gallon Power Vent Propane Water Heater. After 3 weeks it would only heat water to luke warm (tepid) then shut down. I read the bad reviews on this website and thought I made a big mistake. I bought it a Home Depot and had to drive 70 miles to pick it up. The Energy Dept created new standards effective April 2015 and there were only 2 in Southwest Ohio. Cant go without hot water very long (spoiled Americans). With all the bad reviews, why would HD carry this product?I called Rheem customer service and MY experience was the OPPOSITE of everything posted on this site. All were most helpful to troubleshoot. Sent a new pressure switch. I changed it and that didnt fix it. I am a very good DIY person. There arent that many parts to a water heater but a Power Vent heater is a little more complicated. I think I ended up (ultimately) speaking to 5 customer service people. The last was a guy that only advised on Power Vent models. He asked about the baffle in the middle under the Power Vent. I was sticking out about 1 inch but looked normal to me as I didnt know what was normal/abnormal. Apparently during the drive from Columbus to Cincinnati it worked itself out (it should be flush with the shoulder). I asked if I could set on its side during transit and the HD person said yes as long as I didnt set it on the side with the controls. Made sense but the baffle vibrated out a bit. The fuel/air ratio was confused. Anyway the last guy told me to push this baffle down. It was firm. I put a piece of wood on it and gave it a quick bang and it went down flush!!! I powered it up and it now produces scalding water. Hot setting is plenty. You do not need VERY HOT. You will get burned. To summarize, I wanted to counter all the bad reviews about Rheem water heaters and let others know they WILL help you and send a part/technician right away if necessary. Working perfectly now.

Failure in 5 years and 10 Months and a 6-year warranty not honored: The Rheem water heater was installed when the house was finished in July 2006. The water heater failed in May 2012, having rusted through the bottom. The product was designed to fail shortly after the warranty date. Water heaters used to be considered durable goods, and that level of quality needs to be our expectation, given the nature and cost of the product.Rheem confirmed that the unit was still covered under warranty. However, the warranty terms and the procedure for replacement are unconscionable to the point where it would be more cost-effective to replace the unit at your own expense. So, we have a non-durable good and a difficulty to enforce warranty. Both of these conditions are illustrative of failure (and indicative of our national culture, which encourages corporate theft through planned obsolensce).I have sent a certified letter to Rheem on these issues and concerns. Lets see if the company will stand by its products. The reviews on this site and others dont give me much hope in this regard.

They dont make water heaters like they used to, thats for sure. I bought a house a few years ago with a Sears water heater in it from 1977. It lasted until 2009. I had a new Rheem water heater put in March 2014. It failed May 2021, right after the 6 year warranty. The heater element rusted right through the tank, and this is a water heater that was connected to a water softener, so no hard water going through it at all.Waste of money and it looks like I am not alone. Rheem needs to go back to see what Sears was doing. Same with all these companies that supply water heaters to Lowes and Home Depot. A water heater should not be a disposable item. They should last 20 years, just like they did years ago. And for us consumers, we need to wake the hell up to the way companies like Rheem operate. Sure, Sears didnt keep up with the times, and Amazon is killing places like Sears. BUT, that doesnt mean that we should all be a bunch of suckers, getting water heaters replaced every decade. What a joke.

We purchased a Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater yesterday and had it installed by a licensed plumber this afternoon. Install went fine. Turned the water on and then the electric on, and waited a bit so the plumber could make sure all was well. All was not well, the water did not heat. Our plumber ran through the typical diagnostics and came to the conclusion the water heater was bad. Yes, it was bad, but the Rheem customer service was worse. This is a brand new water heater and they have said it was 3 different problems and they will send out a part. We wait for the part and then they will send a tech out--so we could be without hot water for more than a week--they could not give a darn. Brand new and this is the customer service you get--please folks, do not buy a Rheem. This story has a happy ending only because Home Depot in Holiday, FL is awesome. They are replacing the thing and going above and beyond for us. THIS is why we only use Home Depot. “I am posting the following experience as an example of how companies should treat clients/customers regardless of stated warranties, policies and procedures. A number of years ago, I purchased an above-ground salt-water pool with a Raypak pool heater. It was a good heater, but two years ago reached the end of its life and had to be replaced. I decided to purchase another upgraded Raypak heater (larger and with digital readout). Unfortunately, for some reason, the heater only lasted two seasons before needing to be replaced. While I was initially upset at this prospect, all companies can occasionally have a product that ends up being “a lemon” despite regularly producing high quality products.I have often said that a person or a company should be judged, not on mistakes made or an occasional poor product, but how they respond to fixing the situation. In this case, Raypak, sold in Canada by Rheem Canada, came through with flying colours. Technically, my Raypak heater was out of warranty, but Rheem understood the situation and recognized that their products usually perform much better than was the case with this particular heater. The company, with a special shoutout to the Director of Sales in Canada, Dave **, was very understanding and helpful in this situation by replacing my heater. Rheem/Raypak has just ensured a lifelong customer and one who will spread the word. Raypak/Rheem is number 1 in my books!”

My A.O. Smith water heater began to leak so I went to Home Depot and purchased a 50-gallon electric heater. I installed it and turned it on. Everything seemed normal but the next morning as I was checking it for leaks, I noticed water on the very top of the heater. I thought it was one of my connections but upon further inspection found it to be coming from under the cap. I tightened the two nipples that were mounted by the factory and tightened my home connections. The next day there was water again. I called Rheem and they sent out a plumber and he installed two new nipples sent from Rheem. The next day more leaks. Rheem told me to take it back to HD and they would pay the plumber to take it. He brought a new tank and installed yesterday and this morning there was water all over the top! This is nothing but faulty manufacturing! Two tanks in a row that leak internally? Something is wrong with Rheem. I asked the Rheem rep if they had a problem with certain models and he said no.

Just want to pass along my experience with a substantial investment which I should have researched better. On Jul. 18 2011 I purchased a Rheem combo of aircon, furnace, and water heater. The price was reasonable and I received tax credits. On Jan. 13 this year after 5 and a half years the blower motor went out on a night where it was 7 degrees. That cost me $574.00 account 10-year warr. void if you dont have annual maintenance. This is an easy way to not stand behind your product. Sunday night furnace went out again. The crew couldnt repair the problem because it now needs a whole new circuitry board which is the brains of the unit. Im the one who needs some new brains for buying this lemon. Rheem Corp. Office or website has no phone # to vent. I guess they got tired of all the whining. So Ill grin and bear it. You have to admit it is a brilliant strategy to sell and service poor quality units, the business never quits. At least I havent had any trouble yet with the water heater or aircon like so many of you guys had. Knock on wood and wait it will come, lol. DONT BUY RHEEM, YOULL GET RHEEMED!

Bought Rheem water heater Dec 2019, failed May 2020. Called for warranty service and was told 2 weeks out for repairs. Unacceptable time and had to try on our own to figure out repair. Why is this our time to find answer.

Catastrophic failure of the reversing valve in 2 years old Rheem heat pump
Catastrophic failure of the reversing valve in 2 years old Rheem heat pump vented all refrigerant. $253.00 Cost to find failure. $600.00 Cost of labor to replacing their failed reversing valve. $450.00 Cost to replace refrigerant caused by failure of their reversing valve. $0.00 Cost of parts. $0.00 (Only thing covered under 10 years’ warranty). Costs covered by the famous Rheem 10 years’ warranty $0.00. Likelihood that Rheem/Ruud will ever see my business or anyone I know again 0%. This short-sighted strategy creates an incentive to produce subpar products. I highly recommend looking at another heating and air supplier and pay close attention to what they cover in their warranty.

In Dec 2012 we moved into our new home, over the Christmas/New Year period
In Dec 2012 we moved into our new home, over the Christmas/New Year period the hot water system broke down, I rang Rheem and reported the problem, January 2013 it was repaired under warranty, the fault being a leaking gromit allowing water to enter the circuit board. 2nd repair was in April 2014, the system required a reset, which Rheem was contacted and sent a electrician to perform the reset which wasnt covered by warranty and costed $99. 3rd repair, same problem, required a reset, but before the electrician left the system faulted again. The system was then put in bypass mode till a diagnosis could be made, a period of about 1 month. Note: while in bypass mode the system uses more power due to only heating a small amount of water in a secondary system much like a kettle. This job was then handed over to a refrigeration mechanic who two weeks later had to remove the heating unit from the system and take to town for repair, another three weeks passed when I called to check on the system and was told they were waiting for parts. Another two more weeks passed and I called to check on the job, parts had arrived and were being fitted. And a couple more days the unit was back on the hot water system (this period was approx 2 1/2 months of the system in bypass mode, costing more to run, and not being efficient as the manufacturer claimed, the next power bill was huge). 4th breakdown, the system worked for a little while before it stopped again, and was out of service. It was back in bypass mode for another two-three weeks while parts were ordered, the unit was removed again from the hot water system and sent to town for repair. Two week later it was returned and refitted. In December 2014 I contacted Rheem and spoke to Peter **, their customer service manager, and voiced my concerns that the system was almost out of warranty and now it is noisier due to being pulled apart so many times, and the run time was excessive and I felt it wasnt cutting out when it should, it wasnt cost efficient as they claimed it would be, and if it was to fail one more time I would have to replace it with another unit of a different brand, as I couldnt afford to keep repairing it and paying the high power bills it caused, and that I had lost all faith in their product. Peter assured me the system working within spec and would continue to function. 5th breakdown, 2/6/15 the system failed again, I called Rheem at 0800 that morning and reported it.Around lunch time I had not received any return phone call, and as I was leaving the following day to travel interstate, I decided to call a plumber and get the system replaced with a standard type hot water system so my family wouldnt be without hot water in my absence. 16/6/15 I got a return phone call from Rheem saying they would replace the system with a new model heat pump system, but I informed them that the system had already been replaced, and it was now out of warranty. After more emails to Peter **, and providing him with invoices for both the new system and the original failing system, copies of power bills and a photo of the installed new system, he has decided to refund me the cost of the new system $1375, plus $300 towards excess power. And not refund me the cost of the failed system $3080, as I had an opportunity to accept his offer of a new system back on the 16/6/15, two weeks after the system had failed and been removed and replaced. My argument is that he had the opportunity to replace the system in December 2014 when I voiced my concerns to him via phone call and not two weeks after the failed system was removed.

I had a Rheem HVAC unit with a motor burned out during a HOT Summer in Alabama a few days ago. The local Distributor did not honor my warranty due to the fact that my problem comes up after the Unit installation date; but, it was within my warranty registration date. I called Rheem warranty department and was fortunate to speak to a lovely lady named Michelle. She took times listened to my explanation and willing to work and help me with the warranty part. The authorized Rheem technician was able to help restore the HVAC unit to its operations. I wanted to thanks Michelle personally and thanks Rheem manufacturing department for going the extra mile to listen and review my case. With this type of professional service, I am rest assure to continue to buy Rheem products for my future need. Again, thank you very much.

The problem I experienced is a serious safety issue and I hope as many people read this and spread the word as possible. My Rheem 40 gallon hot water tank started to leak gas at the Honeywell valve internally. The tank is installed in a small closet which is a confined area in which combustible natural gas can accumulate. When I contacted customer service they tried every way they could to get out of sending a replacement part. Because of my experience and the seriousness of the issue I decided to do a little bit of research and discovered that I am NOT the only individual who has had this problem.I used to install hot water tanks when I was younger with a plumber friend of mine and I can tell you that I have never heard of this issue before. It just did not happen on the older non digital gas valves. I have since found out that these Honeywell gas valves are notorious for breaking down and they are used by many different hot water tank manufacturers. The leakage issue is a serious problem in a confined space natural gas can easily blow up and cause a fire. To make matters worse if you live in the country and use propane which is heavier than air the combustible gas will build up around the combustion chamber making an explosion very likely. These malfunctioning Honeywell valves are all over the internet and YouTube and have been a well known problem by the manufacturers for several years yet nothing seems to be done about them! I would advise people to avoid any tank with these potentially dangerous malfunctioning valves period. I would also advise people to avoid Rheem products in general based on my customer service experience. They should have been happy to replace the valve considering the dangerousness of the situation instead of asking so many questions and trying to get out of it. They dont have the customers best interests in mind based on my experience.A lot of the issues with this companys hot water tanks are with the Honeywell gas valve and malfunctions of said valve. Neither company seems to be interested in fixing this problem. I would stay away from these hot water tanks and these valves in particular if I were you! You just shouldnt have to deal with these kind of problems.
