Why Microwave Turntables Stop Spinning—and How to Fix It
Posted On: September 4, 2025

Hey everyone, welcome back to Appliance Helpers! If your microwave’s turntable has stopped spinning, don’t panic—it’s usually an easy fix. In this video, we’ll cover the most common reasons why this happens and what you can do to get it turning again.

Section 1: Why the Turntable Matters
The turntable makes sure your food cooks evenly by rotating it through the microwave’s heat waves. When it stops working, you’ll notice cold spots, uneven heating, and frustration every time you reheat leftovers.

Section 2: Common Causes
So, why does it stop spinning? Here are the most common reasons:

Dirty or Misaligned Roller Guide. Food spills and crumbs can block the wheels under the glass plate. Remove the plate, clean the roller guide, and reseat it properly.

Broken Drive Coupler. This is the small piece in the center that connects the motor to the plate. If it’s cracked or worn down, the plate won’t spin.

Turntable Motor Failure. If everything looks fine on the surface, the motor underneath may be burned out.

Turntable Switch Off. Some microwaves actually have a “turntable on/off” button. Double-check that it’s turned on before assuming there’s a problem.

Section 3: Quick Fixes You Can Try
Here’s what you can do:

Remove the plate and roller ring, give them a good wash, and clear away any food debris.

Check the coupler for cracks—if it’s damaged, replacements are inexpensive and easy to find.

If you suspect the motor, you’ll need to remove the bottom panel and test it with a multimeter. If it’s bad, it’s usually better to replace the motor entirely.

Section 4: When to Repair vs Replace
Here’s the rule of thumb: if it’s just the roller ring or coupler, repair is quick and cheap.

If it’s the motor, weigh the cost of repair against the price of a new microwave—sometimes replacement is the smarter option.

And that’s it! A microwave turntable that stops spinning is usually a simple fix, and now you know exactly what to look for. If this video helped, hit that like button, and don’t forget to subscribe to Appliance Helpers for more quick and easy appliance fixes. Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you next time!
