RUN AWAY! I always trusted in the brand, however, when I needed help from Carrier, they dont want to deal with their certified providers. I purchased an Air Handler and a Condenser from two providers listed on the Carrier website to solving my cooling problem. The issue was not solved, and now they want to sell me another HVAC system more powerful. They will not give me any discount for the product that I just bought and have less than 2 months of usage. Honestly, it is a joke, they want to sell more and more equipment without caring about customer satisfaction. Very disappointed with Carrier.
I installed the condenser and A-coil myself since I am licensed to do this and the unit works great. I wish I would of done it right after purchasing the house instead of waiting 4 months. The summer was extremely hot and in a 65-year-old house with leaky windows and doors, my electric bill was never over $275. I was actually expecting higher. Since then I have had a new furnace put in and love it, keeps the downstairs and upstairs plenty warm without breaking the wallet on the gas bill. 4 ton 15seer condenser, 5 ton A-coil with TXV, adn 125,000 btu 95% furnace.
We installed a Carrier Infinity 4-ton heat pump model 25HNA648A30020 in a new custom built home in 2007, opting for the top of the line, high efficiency unit, thinking that we would recoup our upgrade expenses in energy savings. Wrong! So far, we have had to replace a compressor, a coil, and a circuit board. All these parts were covered under Carrier warranty, but not the labor. All told, we have spent $3887 in labor and Freon (R410). We would have been better off going with the builder grade unit. Our HVAC system undergoes routine maintenance twice a year, so this is not due to a lack of proper routine service. We have done everything the HVAC company and Carrier recommended. At one point last year, two Carrier field service reps came to my house to evaluate our duct system, at the request of the owner of our HVAC company. The Carrier field service reps agreed to the recommended duct redesign. I was willing to do anything to correct the problems and make the frequent equipment failures stop. I saved all service records and have over 30 pages of them now. The same unit went out 2 days ago for the second time in the middle summer in hot, humid South Carolina. HVAC company has not been able to run a diagnostic yet because the compressor was too hot. To add insult to injury, we were told the warranty on the Bristol compressor replaced in April of this year would not even last for the balance of warranty on the HVAC unit. That signaled to me that Carrier expects it will fail again within the balance of the heat pump warranty and they dont want to pay for it.Given numerous similar complaints and universal lack of responsiveness on the part of Carrier customer service, it would seem that a class action suit might be in order. Too bad, Carrier prefers to let it get to that stage rather than faithfully standing behind their products. Doing the right thing might be expensive, but not nearly as expensive as it will be when attorneys get involved.
June 2003: We had a weather maker 9300TS furnace/air conditioning unit installed in our home. The previous furnace had been in the home for nearly 30 years and still running strong.Since we had this product installed, we have had to have it serviced every year. They have replaced the circuit board, switches, coils, re-worked the lines and yet again, with the temperature at 25 degrees, it has gone out again. At the time we thought we were getting a quality product, but now we realize that this product is not worth the contract we signed when we purchased it. Very disappointing to pay that kind of money for a product that does not work. The installers have came out each time and performed a quick fix instead of addressing the obvious issue, which is apparently a faulty product. I would never recommend a carrier product to another. As far as the duct work being under-sized, which I have heard some refer to when this product was installed we had duct work installed, also, its the product itself. Very disappointed, never again.
We have been in our house for 2 years and everything has been working well, both the heat and the air conditioner. The size that was recommended is perfect for the size of our house. It was installed in a good location at the side of the house about a foot above the ground on a gravel pad.
Saved to purchase new heat and AC. Bought July 2018. So excited...finally not having to call and have our old heater fixed regularly (GOODMAN). At first it was so quiet, then one month later it is noisier. Okay were fine with it just nice to have air. Now our troubles begin...HEAT. When we put the heat on for the first time, you have a smell, normal, especially after sitting for a few months, not in use. Our rec. room is downstairs as well is our office. We can smell a chemical/chlorine, gassy smell. Way ahead of you. Called gas company, called installer and checked my monoxide detector. NOTHING. No leaks, they found no odor. Everything is running top notch and fine. Okay, now. We sound crazy but at night, there is a smell of gassy, chlorine, chemical.I looked online to see if others had this problem and they do... I called Carrier and they offered no solution or tell us what it may be. It is Jan. 24th 2019 and I am typing this review with a smell of gas, chlorine in the air. I feel sick to my stomach and have a headache. We get a sleepy feeling when we shouldnt be tired. We are extremely MAD that this is happening. We have monoxide, gas detectors on all floors, one right next to the unit. We checked this so often, we have a new hobby. Sickening... I wish we never bought this and I wanted my old Goodman back.
On October 24, 2014, I had a new Carrier air conditioner installed. Unfortunately, the product has not performed well and to our expectations. As of May, 2015 the unit was making an unusual loud noise, although the technician was not able to find anything wrong. In August, 2016 the unit was making a loud noise again. This time we also noticed water leaking and that the unit will successively go on and off. The technician determined that the units expansion valve was faulty. In August 2016 the repair was completed. While the parts were covered under the warranty, we incurred expenses for the labor in amount of $375.00. In addition to the expense incurred and the hindrance of not having AC in 100 degrees weather, we had to twice take time off from our jobs, once to have the unit inspected and a second time to have the repairs done, which took nearly 5 hours to complete. We were disappointed to say the least and find it unacceptable that a new unit that has been in use for less than 2 years, to have such issues.To resolve the problem, we contacted Carrier and kindly requested a full reimbursement of the $375.00 cost we incurred. Per our online research, this issue has happened to other Carrier users and we deem this to be a flaw in the manufacturing of the system, and not normal wear and tear. The response back was that, while they are sorry for the inconvenience created by their system, they cant help us as they are not responsible for the labor cost we incurred! After we spent close to $7k on a new unit, I find it unacceptable to have to spend another $400 in the second year on repairs!
My Carrier Infinity Air Conditioner unit cost roughly $9,500 to install and was put in four years ago. My A/C stopped working because the condensing coil was leaking from the riser. This caused it to run under charged and blew the compressor. Now I need a new compressor, a new coil, a new capacitor, a new wire harness for the compressor and a new filter dryer - essentially building a new A/C unit. Carrier will cover the parts but the labor will cost $1,455 and they will not cover that cost. IF the tech agrees its a quality control issue they will see what they can do. Obviously by the number of complaints about Carriers coils, this IS a quality issue.
I have a Carrier 24ANB624A003 condensing unit matched with a 59TN6080V 17-14 gas furnace and using the communicating thermostat. The contractor that installed it used best practise methods and materials when installing the unit. That included pulling a proper vacuum in the refrigerant pipe and installing a filter dryer before opening the valves on the condensing unit. Carriers condensing units are pre-charged with enough refrigerant gas for 25 of line set. The contractor has provided me with a ten-year comprehensive warranty conditional on my having them do the annual preventive maintenance. I have 36 years of experience (now retired) as a commercial heating and air conditioning contractor and I have designed and supervised the installation of thousands of systems and am a member of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers so I can speak with some authority on the subject. Carriers quality is as good as any other manufacturer. Problems with systems are more often that not poor installations and poorly trained technicians. If your contractor does not provide a ten-year comprehensive parts and labour warranty then choose one that does.
5 compressors in five years - On June 29th, 2007, we installed a Carrier Infinity 3-ton 15.5 Seer heat pump model 25HNA636A003, the high efficiency unit, thinking that we would recoup our upgrade expenses in energy savings. Wrong! In 2009, the air compressor went out. We had installed under our five star warranty. Now, 7-30-12, we just had another compressor installed under the ten year warranty. The man who installed the latest compressor said this is a bad compressor by the name of Bristol. He wanted to sell me a new compressor for $2,500. Carrier knows this is a bad compressor and should replace it with one that wont keep burning out. I still have five years left on the five star warranty.
New 2 stage system - Ive had this air conditioner for 8 years and had 3 compressors put in. This last one I had installed on the Wed. after Memorial Day. It still has not cooled the house since it was installed and never turns off. In the day time, it will get to 80 degrees. At night, around 3:00 am, it will cool off to 70 degrees. Ive called my installer and told him about it and he says he has to call the Carrier guru to find out what to do. It is now June 20th and every day about 3:00 to 4:00 pm, it will be 77 to 80 degrees in my house. I want it fixed NOW!!!! Ive never had a problem cooling the house before the installer says I should build a shade house over the outside unit. He put it there. Even the other compressors were able to cool my house, 1600 sq. ft, with a 4-ton unit.
Well its that time of year again when the old AC unit that is only 5 years old fails. You would think spending 6K on a new name brand ac unit would last a few years at least. Once installed the unit lasted about 13 months and the coil leaked inside the house. A new one was installed and Puron re-added and all good, maybe a one off defect right? 4 years later same thing, now the HVAC guys all say its the fact they used copper and aluminum coils with high pressure Puron, a known failure waiting to happen. The new coil I have coming this week is all aluminum, and it covered under warranty still! But not the 2K plus cost for dyte, Puron, then replacement and yes more Puron! Calling Carrier is a joke, you get top level support that says I need to send an email to the review board. Buy some cheap Chinese AC unit. It will last longer or at least as long.
I have a Carrier-Payne A/C heat pump that was installed in a new construction in late 2005 or early 2006. I do not know the specific model number. Up until about 2 years ago, the unit ran problem-free. Since that time, I have had nothing but problems. The unit will quit heating/cooling without warning. The outside fan (not sure what its called) does not come on when the unit comes on and the compressor kicks out to prevent overheating. I can turn the unit off for a few hours and when I turn it back on, it runs fine for hours, days or weeks. It’s totally unpredictable. A technician will come out tomorrow for at least the 6th time. He has replaced a variety of electronic modules, the outside fan twice and added freon once, even though it was not critically low. He is at a loss on what to do next to try and fix it. Neither he nor I have called Carrier and after reading these posts, it would probably be a waste of time. I am paranoid about this unit and had to have someone house sit while I was on vacation just to keep a check on the A/C. Based on all of the compressor problems Ive read about, Im thinking that is the next thing to go out. I cant think of a compelling reason to replace this Carrier with another one.
I will just be vague at this point to say that this is the worst air conditioner I have owned. This unit has had issues every year since I bought it. I bought it in Aug of 2008. Last year the compressor went out. The fan to the air handler went out the first year. And many instances in between. I heard of something from a service tech saying there was some recourse. I want recourse. I could not rate this unit since there are no negative options.
We purchased ours give or take 8 years ago. It was best deal in our price range and for size wise in comparison to the square footage of our home. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to purchase or replace their existing one.
In 2011 we purchased a dual fuel heat/air. By 2014 it was leaking. Replaced the evaporator, at the cost of $700 not including the Freon we had added to the system. Then by 2016 it was down. Freon again. This time condenser leaking. $200 for the Freon, another $84 to find the leak, and now 1$278 to replace the coil. We asked carrier to replace the whole heat pump as we must have a lemon and they sent info to product review, we thought they were considering helping with at least the labor costs if not a whole new unit. I called back after over 2 weeks of not hearing, and they said they would only replace the coil, because our unit is over 10 yrs old! HUH? Its been less than 5 yrs, and they said we didnt maintain it in over 10 yrs! HUH, hello carrier? 2016 from 2011 purchase date is 5 yrs. Yes, the unit is maintained but not by your service contract. No wonder All Temp Co. Heating and Air Conditioning of Harrisburg, NC sells these. They get a lot of work out of these inferior products, over and over again. Run as fast as you can and buy a Trane. Wish we had. Maybe carrier might move back from Mexico. I guess it doesnt matter where its made if they wont stand behind their product. I think after 2 major leaks we deserved more than their attitude and bad record-keeping.
Im a homeowner and had two units installed in the two story house I completed in 2012. Its been 1 year and 3 months and Ive had 3 a/c outages. My upstairs unit (3-ton) has been out twice, most recently when the compressor blower motor stopped working. My latest problem is with the downstairs unit (2.5-ton) which needs a new evaporator unit. There is a leak in the copper coil which Im told is common. Most startling to me, however, was how corroded the entire evaporator unit appeared. I took a photo and posted here. The prevailing story I hear from the repair folks is that Carriers technology got way ahead of quality... in an effort to meet the rising efficiency requirements. The parts warranty is helpful, but the labor combined for all three repairs is now at $2000. Oh yeah, and I called Carrier (as a homeowner) to express my dissatisfaction. They towed the line on warranty terms and conditions and wouldnt transfer me to a Manager. Given my experience, I will never purchase Carrier equipment again.
My Carrier air conditioning unit is less than 12 years old. The compressor has failed and seized. I understand the industry average should be 15 to 20 years or more of life. I paid a premium for my Carrier unit when I bought it. I contacted Carrier and they said it was out of warranty and basically its my hard luck. Based on my experience if you want an air conditioner to last longer than 11 years 10 months, dont buy a Carrier unit. I live in Chicago. I wonder how long this unit would have lasted in Texas.
We replaced our old air conditioner in 2015 by a Carrier unit. The blower motor failed and was changed last year (2017). The motor was under warranty at a cost of $450.00. Again this year the blower motor failed and was again replaced at a cost of $420.00. I took the issue with Carrier and was offered no compensation. Stay away from this product.
When I bought Carrier I bought 3 tons heat pumps. Carrier decided to change their world class heat pump for a “shell” pump on my models, which I had 12 visits in two years, they covered in warranty one heat pump, and installed the original old style. Now I have 2 pumps not work, and 3 ($1000) thermostats out-of-warranty. This purchase was horrible, all the carrier dealers stat oh... you bought that year... youre screwed.
Module failed on model #FV4BNB006. I called an HVAC company. Carrier said the unit was warrantied for 5 years at the time this was purchased, although now the same exact unit is warrantied for 10 years. Sure enough, without knowing the exact date of install, Carrier claims the unit is out of warranty as of November of 2012. They dont care that the same unit now currently has a warranty of 10 years (new policy as of 2009); that the unit should not have failed 5 years prematurely; and that we, at the time we called, were only 3 months over the 5-year warranty. I spoke with a supervisor Jamie at customer relations. She was curt, only would repeat their policy and could care less about the situation of the same exact unit being warrantied for 10 years now. She didnt even know what the part was nor considered that it should not have failed at least 5 years premature! Oddly enough, there was another person listening into our conversation (another supervisor, Diane ID #**). She just came on the line without identifying herself and interrupted our conversation to say they would do absolutely nothing nor consider helping. Not only did I find this company absolutely uninterested in doing what is right, you could tell they were trained to do exactly the opposite. The way they operate, having big brother ready to chime in when they can to deny a claim, was downright creepy! Do yourself a favor. Look at all these miserable reviews of this awful company and steer clear of them. I have never written a review of a company before, but if theres one person I can help by reading this, its worth it. Carrier, you truly are an awful company and should be ashamed!
We purchased a new Carrier Infinity 18 SEER HE system in April 2018 ($12,300). The system was for the downstairs of a 3200 square foot home and installed in a crawlspace. At the time of installation, there had never been any moisture issues in the crawlspace for the 20 year life of the home, not with the original owners, not with two home inspections, and not with our experience with the previous HVAC system that had been in place for fifteen years, in fact the crawlspace had always been very dry. Once we installed the Carrier Infinity system, we began to notice problems with keeping the humidity levels in our home at a reasonable level, we were seeing 65-76 percent readings on a regular basis.We reached out to the Carrier dealer and they told us we needed to replace all of the ductwork underneath the house. We moved forward and did as was suggested ($4600) in August of 2019. A few weeks after the ductwork install, we switched to heat pump and thought the problem was resolved as humidity levels in the winter stayed around 45% inside the home during the winter when the heat pump was being used and there was no use of the AC. Fast forward to summer 2020. We started using the AC again in April and by July 2020 the beautiful hardwoods in our home began to buckle and we began to see incredible amounts of moisture building in our walls.Our light switches actually began to buckle from the moisture, and if you took one off the wall, the moisture was enough to drip onto the floor. We have pictures of all of this. Moisture readings were back to 68 to 78 percent and 83% in the crawlspace. Through word of mouth and social media, we found several other families who were experiencing the exact same issue in our county alone, their homes, walls, and floors also being slowly destroyed by intense moisture after installation of the Carrier Infinity 18 seer system. We were in contact with the Carrier dealer throughout. Unfortunately, the dealer had a massive fire that destroyed all of their records and they had to rebuild, so there are no records of our original install other than the paperwork we have.After their rebuild that delayed our interaction, the dealer came again to our home and rewired our system to use only two drive phases instead of the designed five. This did not bring the moisture levels down. We were told several times there was a moisture problem in our crawlspace and that was causing our issues. We worked with our homeowners insurance agent and he sent a home inspection/moisture specialist who determined there was no runoff or water issue in our crawlspace and suggested the problem may be the installation of the super efficient Carrier system in 2018. The dealer returned again in September 2020 and replaced the ductwork again, suggesting that the duct boots were not installed correctly in the first ductwork replacement in 2019.This also did not address the intense humidity issue, with readings in our crawlspace reaching 83% moisture in certain areas. Inside the home we could not maintain anything under 68% humidity. The dealer then brought a large dehumidifier in late October 2020 that has been running all winter. With the AC off, the basement has dried out with use of the heat pump and zero use of the AC all winter. We will be installing the optional integrated Carrier dehumidifier next and will see if that addresses the issue when we switch back to AC, somewhere in early April.After hearing from all the other families that have experienced the exact same intense humidity and moisture damage in their homes after installing the Carrier Infinity 18 seer system, we are not confident that we will see any difference. We are out almost $18K, we have a practically new HVAC system that is slowly destroying our home, we will need to replace all of our floors and subfloors, and we are praying that our wiring has not corroded. Carrier was called to one of the other families homes and told them what we were told, that they had a moisture problem and that it was not the system.Carrier KNOWS this is an issue, the dealers KNOW this is an issue, but Carrier refuses to address it. We are writing this review to bring awareness. Consumer BEWARE. Carrier NEEDS to address this and figure out whats causing this 18 seer 5 phase system to destroy certain homes. We hope this honest review keeps others aware of what can happen with a Carrier Infinity 18 seer system and keeps others from living the nightmare we have since the installation of this system.
I purchased and had installed a complete Carrier Heat Pump and Air handler system. The air handler failed 3 years after installation. Carrier warrantied the part but it cost over a $1000 for installation and freon. I looked at the evaporator coil and it was total rusted through. How they can manufacturer a product that fails completely after 3 years is unthinkable. Carrier was not willing to help defray any of the installation and freon costs. I will NEVER buy a Carrier product again.
Purchased a Carrier Infinity furnace and heat pump on 6/21/13. The compressor went bad in 10 days on July 3, 2013. Carrier replaced the unit. Less than 3 weeks later, the unit shut down. There was a loose wire on the outside unit. Twice the techs have been out to try to fix the water in the garage during the summer. Wrapped the outtake lines and flushed the line. They say it is just condensation. A few days ago, I discovered I have a steady leak under my house. They will have to contact Carrier because they are not sure of what the problem is but they think it is a bad gasket. Does anyone know if there has been a recall on this system or is there a class action lawsuit? I seriously think I have a lemon. I have not contacted Carrier yet, but will this week if the leak is not fixed.
I had purchased carrier Carrier Hybrid Jet 1.5 Ton 3 Star Split Inverter AC with Wi-fi Connect - White in May 2018. After two months problem has started. In July I had filed a complain and issues was resolved in 17 days. Once summer started in 2019, again problem has started. I have filed complain on 30 April and still (14 May) chasing for service. I have connected with call center buddies several times, but issues has not resolved. I am using Voltas air conditioner too. They are much better than Carrier. I never suggest anyone to buy this brand.
We bought a brand new town home in 2015 with a Carrier air conditioner that was made in 2012. After only 7 years the oil and fluid leaked out causing the unit to seize up and die. Really disappointed in the overall quality and durability of this product. Would not recommend this lemon.
New installation in new home May 2015. Top of the line heat pump (25VNA048). Coil froze up with massive ice buildup in cold snap December 2016. Faulty coil sensor so unit failed to go into defrost cycle. $232 for labor as out of the 1 year period. Guessing the part cost only a few dollars. Like other postings here I had no response from Carrier. Clearly they dont care. I would not use their products again. Anyone know where the parts are made?
Ac is ok. Heating is good after a few years. Its quality declines after about 5 years. If could I probably get a stronger a/c heating unit. I think it’s a rating of about 5 out of ten. I could be a better unit if they would lower the price and increase the square footage it covers I think.
In 2008, I purchased a major product which was a Carrier Bryant ClimateMaster GT-PX water source heat pump. I thought I purchased the best warranty and well-known product available with the cost of over $7000. After 18 months of operation, this unit started having problems. After a multitude of service calls to the dealer, it was determined that there was a water to freon leak. It was then classified as a catastrophic failure event. This happened during the middle of winter and we had to rely upon the back up heat system, which barely provided enough heat to keep but consumed a huge amount of power.Carrier required the dealer to cut the water coil unit and sent to Oklahoma to be analyzed. It was apparently determined the copper tubing had developed corrosion by contaminated loop fluid and their opinion was that it was not a manufacturing problem. I requested the coil system be returned so that I could have it analyzed by my own sources. I did not receive any response. I did, however, keep both intake and outtake ends of this coil system. There is no indication of any corrosion.Through many calls to dealer, distributor, and manufacturer (Carrier), the distributor finally agreed to replace the now destroyed heat pump, if I agreed to remedy the so-called water corrosion problem with a separate enclosed plate to plate loop heat exchanger, which I agreed to due out of desperation at the cost of $2600.The new water source heat pump provided by the distributor is a Carrier 50 YD model, installed on 04/22/11. Alas, this was not the end of the story. On 01/11/13 (20 months after installation), I had to have a service call to replace the freeze control sensor. One month later, Im still having problems. Another service call determined there was a freon leak at one of the solder connections which was repaired. I was wrong once again thinking, I had a good warranted Carrier product.As I understand it Carrier would not honor any of the repair costs which the dealer said he would absorb. Needless to say, Im stuck with this product. I really have no problems with the dealer or the distributor. It appears to me they took the brunt of the cost on this matter, which I feel should have been provided by the manufacturer. As you can see, this has been a long drawn process which the manufacturer has not taken any responsibility. This has created a lot of extra stress on my family and me. Obviously, I am not a happy customer and I feel that Carrier has given me, my dealer, and the distributor a lot of headaches and hassles. This is causing a lot of redundant time-consuming checks and rechecks and no warranty support. I will never recommend or purchase a Carrier product.
Hey Jerry in San Antonio! I have the same problem you speak of and Im also extremely angry! I tried to figure out a way to email you directly or respond directly, but I cant figure out how to respond directly so I hope you get this message.I live in nice and hot Phoenix, Arizona! On about May 30th, my air conditioner started showing signs of problems. To add to my problems, I had been pretty sick with a nasty virus that lasted for several months and the temperatures in Phoenix were extreme even for Phoenix. May 31st was 109, June 1st was 111 and June 2nd was 107. Thankfully I was able to get out of town for the weekend to not mess with these indoor temperatures. But even then it really didnt matter much because the soonest I could get a technician out to fix my unit, it wasnt until late in the week the following week.This technician told me that he was able to find a leak, but wouldnt know where. He put a leak detection in, topped my system off with refrigerant and then gave me a bill for $332.56. The A/C began to work again, but the leak was worse than we initially thought. About a week later, my A/C was back to where it was and this technician found a leak in the coil. Again, let me remind you all these problems were going on while I was also driving around town with doctor appointments and feeling sicker than I have have felt in my life and Im still not 100% better.I asked the tech how much it would be to fix the coil. I told him that in between visits, I was able to determine that my coil was under warranty but understood they didnt pay for labor. He gave me an estimate of around $2,600 and then brought it down to around $2,100, because I had a previous relationship with them for tune-ups and preventative maintenance. Even this price seemed really steep, so I told the guy I would shop around and he completely understood. Later that night, this tech called me back and told me that whether I went with him or not, the local supplier in Phoenix that provides carrier warranty parts disagreed about my warranty status. I told the tech that I spoke directly with Carrier and they told me my coil is still under warranty. He then said, Well they disagreed and I was like Ill just deal with that later.That night I sent a tweet out and found some really good A/C companies who gave me a rough quote. The one I ended up going with was an excellent company. He said that the cost of doing a warranty replacement on a coil all depends on the original installation so hed have to come out and look at my unit. So fast forward to week three of since this ordeal began and the guy comes out on a Wednesday afternoon to take a look at my coil. The tech told me that the repairs should be easy, but once again, he was still having issues with the local supplier wanting to give out the part because again, they disagreed with my unit being under warranty. I explained to him that it clearly states on Carriers website that the warranty is 5 years from installation or with new homes, its 5 days from the closing date of the original owner. Well you can imagine that many houses like mine in Phoenix were built than say for about a year or two. We moved in 10/08, which would mean that the warranty is good through 10/13. The parts dealer again disagreed with me and even my tech went the extra mile with me trying to get this figured out. By this time I was horrified. It had been weeks since the original problem, my symptoms were getting worse and it was 105 to 110+ every day and yet nothing resolved my A/C! In fact I was so sick, I asked my father-in-law from Missouri to fly out to Phoenix just to help me because I couldnt think straight and I needed rest.Later that night the tech called and explained to me he went all the way to the top to get my part approved. He said hed be coming out in the morning around 9:30. At 9:30 on the dot, my doorbell rang. He explained to me that he would take the coil out take it to the parts dealer because they need the old (which is understandable) and would be right back with my new one. At 10:30, he had the part out and told me hed be back. Several hours passed and by 3:30, I called the tech if there was any problem. He told me once again that the parts dealer was being stupid, but he finally got a part. But this part wasnt a dollar for dollar replacement. It was a different coil that would require him to rig it to fit.On this day, the temp was above average for Phoenix at 109 degrees. The poor tech worked from about 4:00PM till about 11:00PM at night trying to at least get me cool air. He was able to do it, but he still wasnt finished. He came back two days later on a Saturday and worked 4 more hours in the blazing attic and got it fixed. Needless to say, Ive never seen some individual work so hard for me. When I got the bill, I was shocked. It was for just over $1,500 instead of around the $900 I had originally expected. Now at first many people would argue that I was ripped off, but in all actuality I wasnt. I mentally figured out the hours the guy worked and realized that he undercharged me. He actually undercharged me by quite a lot. I then asked the tech why the difference in estimate and he told me the main reason it took him so long was the fact that I didnt get a dollar for dollar replacement. They said my coil was discontinued and the larger part he had to rig in would have to due. If you remember, it took him barely an hour to get the part out, but nearly 10+ hours to put it in and rig it to make it work. Now I know this guy worked hard, but making something work seems to be a temporary fix. This part wasnt designed to be in the air conditioner, let alone I would have been better off probably just buying a brand new unit than doing a warranty replacement. Anyways, I know this is a long story, but Carrier was absolutely awful when it came to handling my replacement. They were of no help when I explained to them that their parts dealer was giving me hassle. I further explained to them that I live in one of the hottest cities in the world and I was very sick, hoping that would spark some sympathy to help this get resolved faster but yet again, that didnt work. Nearly $2,000 later, I finally got my replacement (under warranty coil) replaced! Thanks Carrier, your customer service sucks! It was for just over $1,500 instead of around the $900 I had originally expected.
I had a Carrier heat pump and air handler installed in 2017 (Comfort 25HCE418.1.5 ton... w/SEER 14.5; Carrier Performance fan coil w/variable speed DC blower). I had all the scheduled maintenance and now the evaporator coil leaked and I am being told it will cost $1425 to fix just for labor! What good is having a new system if it costs this much to fix? I was told by the tech that they had to replace these evaporator coils after one year! Even with the parts covered the labor is cost prohibitive. If these systems cannot be maintained even with regular maintenance, which was also expensive, then they must be defective! My heating and cooling bills were also huge and the thermostat had constant problems - going out, or not registering the correct temperature. You would think these companies would be concerned about their reputations. You would think that the certified dealers would also be concerned about the quality of these products. You would think there was some integrity in this business.
We have replaced 25 year old Carrier furnace with a new one back in 2015. The installation was executed by an approved dealer from Carrier. Only a few months on, the blower fan failed a first time, then a second time in 2016, a third time in 2018 and again in May 2019. Now the Carrier approved dealer company that has serviced our equipment since 2016 is recommending that we replaced the entire unit. Carrier is refusing to provide their assistance nor to replace the unit under the motive that the installation is to blame. Interestingly enough, this new unit installation is identical to the previous one that was also a Carrier furnace. Weve had only bad experiences with this company. I would not recommend it to my best enemy. ;0
My 2 year-old Carrier Infinity Heat Pump stopped functioning. When my dealer came to investigate, he found that the evaporator on the heat coil of my Carrier furnace (also installed 2 years ago) had micro leaks. That alone cost me $420. To replace and the defective part and refill the heat-pump (they had to empty it for safety reasons), I would need to cough up $600. The part is guaranteed but labor not! So a defective part from Carrier is costing me over $1000 in labor to fix. I called Carrier and the only thing they can tell me is to pay the bill and send a copy to they review board to see what they can do. I could understand paying a big bill if my system exceeds 10-15 years, but just after 2 years? I need help here.
Carrier Comfort 80 gas furnace blower motor & cage failure- The blower motor and blower squirrel cage have both recently failed on this 9-year-old unit. Preventive maintenance twice yearly has been consistently scheduled. Warranty was for 5 years for all parts except heat exchanger (10 years). Cost to replace both of these items was $960 less my 15% discount for being a preferred customer. VERY HIGH PRICES! The tech volunteered that Carriers prices on replacement parts is high. I found the same parts on other HVAC supplier websites for much less - I was initially not comfortable with handling the parts change out, but now seeing how it was done, could probably have done it myself & saved a bunch of $. I contacted Carrier, but got no response from them. Had asked for some $ warranty assistance since these parts failed prior to 10 years of service - my tech said that after 2010, Carrier increased their warranty to 10 years on other parts. This is the first time I have had any blower failures on a furnace earlier than 20 years of service. Apparently they just dont make em like they used to and Carrier doesnt really care about their residential consumer customers either. I wont be replacing any of this equipment (when the time comes) with Carrier!
Two homes, one with Trane the other with Carrier. Carrier failed after 8 years and the company would not back up their warranty. Trane still running on its 15th years after a $500 repair on the control board. I am shopping for a new heat pump and I will never buy another Carrier.
I purchased a Carrier Infinity 2 ton heat pump on 08/16/2010. Two years and one month, it needed its motor replaced. That was done in September 2012 with me footing the labor. Now on February 12, 2013, the control board on the same unit needs to be replaced. This unit cools our bonus room upstairs and is set to cool at 80 and heat at 62, so it is not used a lot. Again, I have to pay labor to have it fixed. I am really upset to have a 2-year-old unit go bad. By the way, the heat strips set off my fire alarm after the initial install, the first time the heat pump came on. I paid lots of money for this unit and another 5 ton Infinity. I would be willing to join the class action since this is a lemon.
I waited on phone line (1-800-CARRIER) for 22 minutes. Then gave up and pressed “1” for call back. About 40 minutes later a young woman returned call. I explained that my local dealer told me that Carrier did not support Ecobee thermostats and I wanted to verify that information. She asked to put me brief hold. After a few minutes she returned to line and advised that I would need to contact Ecobee and she provided phone number. I asked if there was someone at Carrier I could speak with. She said no because they have “no technical support staff” in customer service.
Purchased CARRIER ocean environment, 17.5 SEER Heat Pumps and air handlers for new home. During annual maintenance of my 4 systems, it was determined that one subject unit had leaked all refrigerant. Had to refill at a cost of $550. Maintenance company ordered a new coil under warranty. It took 5 weeks to deliver. Another $500 of refrigerant and $700 in labor was required to make the repair. CARRIER had a known problem with the coils. The lack of stock and the long fulfillment time are logically related. Several false ship promises further belie this contention. Carrier should have made me whole for all expenses. They did not exhibiting lack of concern for the customer and their brand.
Bryant furnace installed in 2007 by certified installer and looked great. A couple of months back I noticed the plenum was bent and distorted with the seams opened up. Have had three authorized service technicians tell me they have never seen this occur before but deny any furnace malfunction. Bryant customer relations directs me to contact the Better Business Bureau to complain...really? I have been told my concrete floor heaved, my floor joists dropped, or the installer caused the damage. Unit looked fine when installed but it has lifted about 4 inches and destroyed the plenum. Anyone else ever seen something like this?
On our new house, the heating system is Carrier. Five years and three months now, it is out of warranty and the coil leaks have evaporated. Carrier refused to replace the part which, I think, is the quality problem. In Trane system, I had an AC which lasted for 24 years and is still going strong and did not lose freon. They just make junk parts. Two years after, the startup condenser fan will not start and they had to add a start-up kit to get the fan going again and patch up design. I will never buy or recommend any Carrier product to anyone I know. Just stay away from the product that they make.
Carrier bought in 2006 has had over 18 service calls on heat pump. Never once fixed more than 3-4 months. Now has a coil leak in heat pump. $6640.00 quoted for new unit. $3700.00 quoted to replace coil. Never buy Carrier again. Carrier customer service could not care less. Out of warranty.
In 2006, two Carrier Infinity heat pump systems were installed in my house to the tune of $25,000. Since 2010 I have not gone a single year without having a significant repair bill for at least one of the units. From 2010 through 2017 my repair bills for the units have exceeded $10,000. The compressor has gone out twice in one system and the other unit was totally replaced under a service bulletin (still cost me $1284.00 even though they admitted it was crap). Ten months after warranty period ended the compressor went out again. They say nothing we can do. BEWARE!!! Stay away from Carrier, unless youve just got money to throw away.
Iceman only diagnoses AC problems that are not covered under warranty and then attempts to charge enormous fees to get problem fixed. AC unit is less than 10 years old and per Iceman I have had 4 leaks, needed 3 evaporator coils and possible condenser coils all of which is not covered under the warranty. Carrier says nothing they can do, I have the contract with Iceman and have to use them. If I want to try to find another Carrier Dealer to honor my extended warranty I can try. No AC unit should need an evaporator coil every 2 years and continue to leak for 8 years straight. I need a new thermostat and cant get one because Iceman cant diagnose the correct problem because the thermostat is under warranty and I can only get a new thermostat from a Carrier Dealer and Iceman wont get me one.
I purchased a new Carrier Furnace Model #9200 in 1990-1991 and have had problems ever since. The furnace leaks water on the floor, shuts off by itself, had it serviced many times, the air conditioner has a leak, the heat quits and has to be reset, problems after problems.....I will never get another unless they replace it. I have all the service reports from my service man.
Had a new Carrier furnace and A/C installed in August 2013. It totally worked fine until last summer. After several visits by several technicians they replaced a low pressure switch and a coil in the inside unit. Last occurred last fall. I turn the unit on the spring and no A/C. Called the company that installed it since it is still under the 5 year labor 10 year parts warranty. It required 2 lbs of Puron. They never checked for a leak but recommended I have a nitrogen test that would cost me $800.00. I asked why I have to pay for a leak test under warranty. The tech told me that it is not covered under warranty. So they will continue to put Freon in until it goes out of warranty in August then it is all on me. A wasted 9k. Never ever buy or recommend Carrier products to anyone.
I bought a Carrier Mini Split Air Conditioner Model:40MHHC12 in 2018. After 1 season of use, it stopped producing cold air. A major component had failed (condenser coil)! The installer (ARS in Florida) refused to help, saying the unit must be maintenanced twice a year to stay under warranty for labor (brand new!). Carrier declined to comment about their unit failing after 1 year, or consider replacing the unit. The parts were under warranty, but the labor would cost almost $1000.00. Carrier said they would send a representative out to the installer company to review the issue, but after a month of me trying to find out the status of the issue, they finally just told me that there was nothing they would do. I would not recommend this company for air conditioners. High priced products with lousy quality.
I just recently had a complete HVAC system installed a few months back. We had our first Trane HVAC system for almost 20 years. We couldn't be more happy with this system. We would recommend Trane to everyone because of their quality and longevity!
In 2002, I invested $6,000.00 to have Carriers top-of-the-line heat pump installed at my home. A very large investment for me! I thought it will be well worth it to have the highest quality, 2-stage, rated with energy star and uses Puron. Turns out this unit is quite the lemon. By the looks of all the other complaints I now see concerning the same system, I guess theyre nearly all lemons. Wish someone could make Carrier do the right thing and provide what they advertised. And are still advertising. I had this unit installed by a reputable heating and air company. From the beginning it never did work all that well. It did cool however so I did not complain. It only seemed to work about half as good as advertised. On real hot days, it would not keep up with demand and cool that well. If in the 90s outside, the best it would cool was to about 76-78 inside. Cool enough to live so I didnt complain. In 2006, it stopped cooling altogether, so I called what many believe to be one of the most reputable heating and air company around to troubleshoot it. They said the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced. This was under warranty but I would have to pay the labor. Labor to install the new compressor was $1,200.00. I had a couple other companies also price the labor and all were about the same. It killed me to pay $1,200.00 labor to install a compressor that is under warranty. I considered alternatives such as maybe just install a new unit, but a new unit would cost more than twice that amount installed. I figured this is one of the most reputable heating and air companies around so I told them to go ahead and change the compressor and paid them $1,200.00. It was cooling my home again but still only cooling about half what it should, same as before. In the winter, the electric back-up strips were on most of the time, even when outside was in the 40s. I put up, told the installer about this and they added Puron a couple of times at quite some expense. They told me I should have had them install the unit originally. Then they would stand behind it better. In summer 2008, there were many days in the 90s and the unit would only cool to about 79-80 inside. I had them check the unit again. They said the unit was leaking Puron from the charging valve and that this had nothing to do with them installing the new compressor in 2006. They gave me a price of $1,300.00 to replace the leaking charging valve. It was extremely hot outside (upper 90s) during this time, so I paid them the $1,300.00 to replace it. After that, it did cool our house down to mid to upper 70s. Still not cooling so great but good enough. Winter time came and back to having the back-up heating kicking in when outside in the 40s and later even when in the 50s. The next summer, back to not cooling so well but could live, so did not complain. Winter came again and using back up heat. When the next summer came, it was in the 90s outside and could only cool to the 80s inside. I had to have Puron added again buy the same reputable company? They would not cut me any break on the cost of the Puron. They said if they were the original installer in 2002 then they would take care of me a little better. After they added Puron this time they said to just call someone else if I had any more trouble with it. Now here it is summer of 2014 and not cooling at all. I had a different company look at it and they told me they believe the compressor is bad and recommended I call the same company that installed the compressor when it was under warranty. He said he have never worked on one of these very high efficiency units. I did call the Carrier Corporation a few times since the original install in 2002 and I was told that there was nothing that Carrier would do to help. We have Carriers very best unit on the market and we are sweating in our home and just hoping it will be cool at night so we can sleep. Not sure what to do now. I guess I will have to have another reputable company come out and install another unit or something. The new compressor was install in August 2008, not quite 6 years ago. I dont know if it will be under warranty or not. The original compressor had a 10-year warranty. Does that mean this second compressor will have a 10-year warranty? Wish Carrier would do the right thing and provide me with a new unit that worked as advertised. Any suggestions?
We had a new Carrier furnace installed when we first purchased our home. It was running fine after 16 yrs but minor repairs were beginning to occur and at the urging of our furnace installer suggested we upgrade with a new one. So six years ago we replaced the furnace which was still functioning ok with the latest Carrier furnace. Well six years have passed and we have not had one complete heating season with the new furnace without it failing. It has been a continuum of hard lockouts with no heat in the dead of winter. Over the course of the six years we have paid for the cost of the furnace with service call fees replacement parts to include a new oil tank which they said was a possible cause of the furnace malfunctioning which to this date have not resolved the problems. Carrier has been absolutely useless in trying to fix this problem in a timely manner and kept telling the furnace people to try this and try that - all at my expense. As a company who provides consumer products as important as a furnace one would think they would be more responsive to the issue but all they have done is stonewall me at every step and meanwhile I still have a faulty furnace that they will not fix or replace. At this point I will have to replace this nightmare with a different furnace manufacturer and hope that their product and company backing will be what one would expect as a consumer. I will never again purchase anything from Carrier and I will certainly never recommend their product to anyone.
Puron Model 24APA530A300 Coil bad - A/C stopped cooling on hottest day of year, and my a/c guy said it must be a bad coil. The unit was put in 6 years ago, and I figured Carrier would replace it. Just found out it has only a 5-year warranty, but starting in 2010 they made it a 10-year warranty. I think it is plain wrong that Carrier only has a 5-year warranty for a machine that costs upwards $6000. No way a coil should go out in 6 years.
Im the same person who contributed the complaint below. I am obliged to state that in the end, three days later, Carrier authorized the complete replacement of the outdoor unit, which is worth several thousand dollars. However, Carrier is wiping their hands of it from this point forward. In other words, no warranty. I will also have to pay the labor and supply cost of over $900 and that is with the labor being significantly discounted by my HVAC company. I am very pleased that Carrier finally authorized this replacement. Hopefully, the new 4-ton Carrier Infinity heat pump will perform as well as the 2-ton Infinity heat pump that conditions the first floor of our house.
Similar to most postings... Newly constructed home with 2 new Carrier HVAC units. One 4 ton and the other 2 ton. The 2 ton has been serviced 3 times in the past 12 months. The first 2 visits were covered by the home builder; However, the last visit I had to absorb. I do have a ten-year warranty on the units... The 2 ton failed again and it cost me 305.00 for labor and diagnostic fee. I asked Carrier to reimburse me as this was the 3rd failure in 12 months. They declined any help whatsoever. I will never buy a home that has a Carrier HVAC system nor will I recommend anyone to buy Carrier. The HVAC company that came out to service it also said the part they had to replace routinely fail, yet Carrier accepts no responsibility... Carrier stinks...
Had a new Carrier system (AC 24ACB3 & Furnace 59SP5) installed in our home June 2017. After install, we were very disappointed to find that our brand new furnace and AC unit were noisier than our old ones (not sure about energy efficiency yet but it seems that the new Carrier unit runs longer and more often than the old replaced unit). Back to the noise issues: We had Expert Heating & Cooling come back to our house a handful of times to try to determine and fix the excessive noises that were being sent throughout the home. #1. They replaced a portion of the factory AC line with a suction line at the unit. This new line is an eyesore and looks ugly. It did however quiet it down quite a bit (if we had not complained we wouldve been stuck with the excessively loud noise - now we have an ugly tube at the AC unit). Our old unit was quiet and not an eyesore #2. The new Carrier thermostat made a loud annoying click that everyone in the living room could hear each time the unit turned on and each time it turned off (our old replaced thermostat was quiet) - the new one was unacceptable. Again, they came out and replaced it with one that doesnt make a loud click. #3. Excessive/continuous blower whining or howling coming from the brand new furnace. This steady whirling whining noise permeates through the entire house and you can hear it at every vent - its very annoying. They tried to address it numerous times; They slowed down the blower speed but that wasnt the answer. Another time, both Expert and Carrier came out to the house and replaced the blower - - the whistle from the blower was still the same. Carrier said this is the way the new blower sounds and that we would have to get used to it - (there is NO getting used to it so far). Carrier mentioned that its possible we could try an older generation blower but we would lose some of the energy efficiencies that we gain on the new one. Carrier also mentioned that they could insulate some of our ducts near the furnace to quiet things down. Today the whistle still exists. So, in summary: we were very very impressed with Expert Heating & Coolings professionalism and customer care. However, we are very disappointed with the Carrier products we received. Please let us know if something can be done (without compromising the efficiencies of our new system) to remove the whistle noise. 12/7/2018 update - Carrier never responded to this note I submitted to them on their website. (and no, this howling noise is not caused by little air leaks or whistles in the air ducts, its from the motor)
I built a new home which we moved into in 2014. The only equipment which has failed has been my Carrier gas furnace and outside a/c unit. I have had the coil in the furnace replaced, the blower motor replaced, a leak repaired on the outside unit and once again I am without air conditioning waiting on a service call which will take 3 days. My units carry a 5 year warranty (parts only, labor was for one year I believe) which could have been extended to 10 if my units were registered (for marketing purposes I was told) within 90 days of closing on my home. With the mountain of paperwork/moving/dealing with banks/contractor I missed this deadline. I cannot say they, I wasnt handled a piece of paper at some time telling me to do so. Even though I am still in the initial warranty period, and Carrier could obtain my data for marketing purposes, they will not extend my warranty for the additional 5 years.That being said this equipment should not have failed so many times in such a short period of time. I have had no issues with any of the other appliances in my home, only my Carrier equipment. They treat their warranty like rebate cards. They know most people wont register their equipment so they can get out of the additional years of warranty. I only found out about this from a different Carrier dealer who will now be servicing my equipment. Buy something else. The equipment I have is unreliable and thus far I have not been impressed with their service. I did not have a choice as my builder had the equipment installed, when it is replaced I will stay away from Carrier.
We installed a new expensive Carrier heat pump/AC system in 2002. Over 14 years we had to replace the Bristol compressor 10 times. Our HVAC service company and Carrier said we were the only ones who had this problem and they did not know why. All lies as I now know. The compressor failed again this year (2016) and the HVAC service company we use said they cant replace the Bristol compressor this time due to a lawsuit between Carrier and Bristol, so we had to replace our whole system. We would never install Carrier again. Carrier charges huge but gives you junk. If we hadnt taken out a $900 10-year labor charge warranty when we bought the system, we would have been out thousands of dollars to replace 10 compressors. Dont ever buy Carrier! They are no longer using Bristol compressors, but the substitute compressor brand they are now using is reputed to be just as bad.
The heat pump function on our 1 and 1/2 year old Carrier unit is not functioning properly. What happens is that when a steady temperature of 68 degrees is set, the unit buzzes and then fails to come on. Then it buzzes again and fails to come on. Then buzzes again and fails to come on. (Repeated on purpose.) Had the installation company come out yesterday morning and they found nothing wrong. The board was not fried. They tested all terminals and said they were okay. Paid $80 for the visit that did nothing. Like to wake up every minute or so as your heat pump fails? Buy a Carrier unit!
My inducer has bad bearings, sounds like a 747 in my home when the furnace fires up. In addition, the evaporator is completely rusted. I have a seven year old system, and the builder did not register the system at install. I contacted Carrier and they basically told me to go fly a kite, even though they say they would have warranted their product had it been registered. The outside compressor is badly weathered, paint is peeling, rusted. The install guy said that although it has a Carrier brand on the outside, they took another system and merely added the Carrier logo to it. So after seven years Im looking at a replacement of the system. Guess what, it wont be a Carrier.
Currently have 4 Carrier heat pumps at my home -3.8, 3.0 and two 2.4 units. Units installed 2009 in new residence. 3.0 unit evaporator coil replaced 4-2014, now coil is leaking again! Coils in other units, after HVAC tech. inspection could fail at any time!! Labor costs so far exceed $800! Carrier distributor can do nothing! Distributor can DO NOTHING, but I can -- NEVER, NEVER, NEVER purchase or recommend any product produced by United Technologies. Planning to present my case to Texas Home Builders Assoc. and recommend that they do not disappoint home buyers by installing United Technologies products in new or remodeled homes! CARRIER UNITS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!
Six years ago purchased from Sears a new Carrier Infinity which cost $8,000.00. I thought that buying the supposed best system in the market & from a company like Sears I was making a wise decision. This was my first mistake. Yesterday March 15, just few month short on the six birthday of my very expensive Carrier & after expending the last 4 month $1,300 on repairs, I finally decided to end my nightmare & install a regular air conditioner, no frills just cool air.If you have a lot of money to throw away then buy a Carrier Infinity. If you want to be happy & save money on the long run please dont even think on buying a Carrier Infinity. The company who installed my new air, they told me that they see exactly what happened to me very very often. Look around & you will see Im not alone.
We had just purchased a brand new Carrier Upright Inverter air conditioner which we had installed by accredited personnel of Carrier. The very next day of installation, the aircon would reflect ERROR every time we attempt to put on the unit. We reported this defect but they give us many excuses, wasting our time and just raising our blood pressure. We just paid P100,000 for the unit, and on its first week, we have to try putting it on 3-4 times before the unit actually turns on!! Its been a little over a month, and the people of Carrier and the Abenson Appliance store where we purchased the unit, simply gives us the run-around!!! Where do consumers go for HELP!!!
I purchased a new home and the day I moved in, the unit was not working. I have a 1 year warranty. The licensed contractor comes out often to either tell me the unit is frozen, needs to be charged or coil needs replacing because of an expansion valve has malfunctioned. Even when a/c unit is supposedly fixed, it does not cool the home properly. It takes at least 4-5 hours to drop 2 degrees. The a/c unit runs constantly and is very inefficient. HVAC unit is a 13 Seer, 2 1/2 ton unit and Im in a 2 story, 2,100+ square foot home. I have been in my home less than 3 months, and the 3rd coil is getting ready to be replaced. This is the 10th service call. This is the first Carrier HVAC unit Ive ever owned and will be the last one.
Our 9-year-old Carrier furnace was blowing cold air. The repair guy for Carrier said we need a NEW FURNACE! If he only replaces the part, there is no guarantee it will work (up to $2,000 for repair). It s December (here in New York) and we have waited SEVEN DAYS and no part in sight! We will NEVER buy another Carrier!
In 2009, I replaced two old 7 SEER and 9 SEER units with brand new high-efficiency Carrier units. Luckily, I had a friend who sold me and installed two new units for $11K. One local HVAC company asked me $22K and another asked me $15K for the same models. Thank God I didnt have $22K tied up in the mess that I bought. The downstairs unit is saving us right now. I have a box fan propped up blowing cool air upstairs, where my INFINITY SPLIT UNIT has become a piece of crap apparently. The coil was rusty and leaking freon; freezing up. I have huge water spots on my ceiling where water has overflown the drip pan, which suggest to me the float switch isnt any good either. The upstairs thermostat earlier this week registered 86 degrees. The unit was blowing but not cooling. On Saturday morning, my friend sent his brother-in-law to replace the coil in the attic. The brother-in-law told me that the air coming out of the vents should be upper 40s and at least low 50s. With a meat thermometer, he and I checked the temp for approx 30 minutes and it never dropped below 60 degrees. He said that it would cool on down after it ran for a while. It never has and after it cools for a while the air coming from vents is between 70 and 75 degrees. Today, one day after replacing the coil and with thermostat set at 70 degrees, the temp at mid-day was 79 degrees. I keep asking myself if its worth $450 to lower the temp by 7 degrees. How would you feel? Last night and all day today, I have tried probably 25 times to call and text my friend that installed the unit and sent his brother-in-law to do the dirty work and collect money. He has not replied. I dont want to criticize my downstairs unit because, like I said, it is saving us right now. However, we have had to have service calls for it two or three time during winters because it wasnt heating. Ideally, with these Carrier units, we need cold air to rise and warm air to fall and wed be fine. Doesnt work that way, huh? If you are reading this and you are about to buy a new unit for your home, please take my advice and the advice of many others below and steer clear of Carrier products. Im far from an HVAC expert, so I cant make a recommendation on which brand to buy. The only thing I can offer is to save yourself some grief and headaches and DO NOT BUY CARRIER!!!
I purchased an Infinity air conditioner from the Carrier Corporation through Airflow Designs in Orlando FL. The air conditioner was originally installed on May 3, 2007 and cost $7,600 for the unit and a 10 year warranty. On July 5, 2010 the compressor went out and again on May 22, 2015 the compressor went out again. After lots of phone calls and much aggravation I have found that they used Bristol compressors and would be using that same product previously installed when installing this compressor. If that compressor has a high failure rate why do they continue to use them? However they would install another condenser for $2545 (cost from Airflow cost from Carrier was $1545) made by another company. It took quite a while to get in touch with anyone that actually works for the Carrier Corporation to find out what kind of support they provide for ineffective products. I contacted the corporate offices for Carrier (5/22/2015) and they only meet once a month to discuss this kind of issue and I got a reply 3 weeks (6/15/2015) after the request for help resolving this matter. So the choices were to go with what is covered under the warranty and has gone out twice in the past 7 years or pay a large sum of money to replace this unit that seems to be problematic. What is the point of having a warranty if you are going to continue to get ineffective products installed? I am also wondering why this company thinks that I would spend that much money with them again instead of going with a company that has a better reputation! Keeping in mind that I have an extended warranty for parts and labor for this air conditioner.
I bought the 5 ton Carrier Infinity HNA26 indoor and outdoor unit heat pump system in 2007. My money was good; my purchase was not. Ducting was made to spec for the Carrier heat pump compressor in a new home heating some 3500 sq feet. 4 years later, 2011, the original compressor packed it in, a new compressor was installed costing me some $2000.00 more - labour and refrigerant. There were also numerous service calls prior, with among others the replacement of a honking reversing valve. Now in 2015 the 2011 replacement compressor has packed it in - another 4 years. Two (2) compressors shot! Junk! I phoned another heat pump outfit and they will install a comparable American Standard for some $12,500.00 here in British Columbia, Canada. That is a boat load of money to replace a Carrier unit that should have lasted some 15 or so more years. There should be a class action suit against Carrier for this!
Purchased a new Carrier HVAC for my home in 2007. It was properly installed by licensed technicians. Ive had 9 (nine) major service calls requiring replacement of major components in less than 7 years. Thankfully I was covered for many of the services by a Sears master service agreement. That said, Ive still had to come out of pocket for several service calls for things not covered by the plan (i.e. Puron refills... 11 lbs 2 days ago ($450)). Similar scenario last year... slightly less. Thats just the AC. However, the furnace has made up more than half of those 9 service calls during the period. Ive spoken to an attorney who has advised a class action lawsuit. I would certainly be interested in joining such a suit. I have all documented service records to prove the faulty lemon that they manufacture.
In June of 2010, I had my Carrier Infinity heat pump replaced. My old unit was crushed by ice. I went to use the AC at the start of the summer of 2011 and the AC was inoperative. The compressor failed in less than 1 year.Carrier paid for parts only and would not pay over $700 in labor or for freon charges. Almost worthless warranty. Pathetic company. I purchased 2 infinity systems for $22,000 6 years ago. It will never happen again.
We had a new system installed in Sept of 2010. As of today, we are on our 3rd replacement ECM motor. According to the HVAC company, these have been failing at a terrible pace. The first two were under warranty (still had to pay $150 for labor) and now Carrier is saying they wont cover any more since we didnt register with them at the time of purchase (had NO clue we needed to do that!). Even though we have receipts for the sale from, they wont honor their warranty. If there is a class action lawsuit coming for these guys, sign us up!
Our Infinity series 25 heat pump was installed in 2006 and we had a 10-year parts and labor warranty included at that time. We have the system checked twice each year and things have worked well until recently. On our last bi-annual service call (January 24 this year), the outdoor temperature sender unit was determined to be bad and was replaced at no charge. Then three days ago, we received a system malfunction notice on our indoor thermostat so I called our service company and they were slammed, so we set up an appointment for today. The tech came out, spent an hour checking the system and determined the compressor is failing causing the thermal lockout conditions which were recurring on a regular basis (it is a Bristol compressor). He called their carrier supplier while he was here, went through the problems and trouble codes with them on the phone and then received the okay to replace the unit. There will be no charge to us due to the 10-year service agreement. I told him that I had read about the problems with the Bristol compressors and he said he was aware of the problems as well. He said they had a great supplier to work with and had some problems initially but no longer have them with respect to getting warranty replacements when they properly document the issues involved and the warranty is in effect. Apollo is our contractor here in Kennewick, Washington and theyve done a good job and have the right relationships with the manufacturer and vendors to get things done.
11/3/10: Burgors Always Dependable, (Pul drain not while); customer said that unit will run then furnace will go off. But not go on. Cleaned fuse off. Cycle unit a few times. Drain cleaned too, unit is running fine, filter ok too. Paid $100.00.11/15/10: Burgors Always Dependable, was here 4-6 times in the last two weeks do to furnace; will run fine for about 8-10 hours then furnace will go off and customer will reset switch on furnace. Service man did check; sensor cleaned, burner box check, salt test check passes at this time. Replace start, drain box cleaned and check to ok replace switch at limit box burner and will check heat exchange too. (Cycle Ok too!) Crack in heat exchanger not safe to run unit replace limit in burner box. Service man not know about 3 times. Customer was resetting furnace switch. Paid $150.00.Somewhere in here, Burgors tried to get me to give him $800 for the new heat exchange, I found out it is under warranty from Carrier and didnt go through him b/c Mechanical Heating and Cooling said I wouldnt have to pay the 800 b/c carrier will reimburse them.11/18/10: Mechanical Heating & Cooling, no heat replaced heat exchanger, also bad igniter system tested and running fine at this time; heat exchange under warranty. Paid $319.00. This is the bill I dispute b/c they charged me $111 for a rush fee without any knowledge of it being a rush fee or option to have it on a rush bases.11/19/11: Mechanical Heating & Cooling, No heat; furnace running upon arrival, let complete cycle, checked past fault codes 12 blower on after power up ran through several cycles running OK at this time, also flushed trap. Check incoming power connections, all Ok. Paid (n/c considering they were just there the night before).11/26/11: Mechanical Heating & Cooling, found furnace tripped on high temp limit, reset checked coil very dirty customer cleaned checked capacitor ok ,temp rise ok 46; cut hole in return in basement, cycled unit running ok at this time. Paid $89.00.After all this, Mechanical Heating & Cooling are now telling me that the venting system must not be the right size; seems to me that if this were true then why did my system run for approximately 6 yrs with no problems. Problems just now occurring; I spoke to _______ from Carrier and he stated that this is not uncommon; Well then if that is true, then why was the Venting for the system not properly installed? Wouldnt it still be Carriers fault since they installed it?
I have several Carrier and Payne HVAC systems in several houses. I had 2 very simple technical questions regarding their thermostat. (Can the unit humidifier be set to greater than 45? and Where is the humidity sensor?) Called Customer Service looking for Tech Support line... no tech support line, they know nothing, suggested I call local Carrier dealers, i.e. local contractors. I did, they had no idea why Carrier would refer me to them. They dont offer tech support (as they shouldnt). I called back Carrier, went to Level 2 customer service... same BS, unbelievable... no more Carrier products.
I too bought a Carrier 3.5 ton split system a/c for my home in May of 2008. During the first year the installer would fix all the minor problems as they popped up, no out of pocket expenses. The 2nd year it started getting expensive. Refrigerant leaks, fan motors quitting, coils leaking and needing to be replaced, drip pan cracking and leaking, pounds of Puron added, startup capacitor replaced three times, and today 2.5 pounds of Puron. The only thing that hasnt quit yet is the compressor. I have spent a great sum of money from the yearly fix up. Carrier is undependable and expensive. My buddy had similar problems with his carrier. He installed his in 2007. After the 4th year of breaking down, he called a Trane dealer and had a unit installed. Up till now never a repair. He said for me to save my money and switch to TRANE.
Wow, horrible company. Bought a unit with a 10-year compressor warranty. Compressor developed a leak. They did nothing to repair/replace unit. Swore I would never buy another carrier. Bought a new house. Builder uses carrier. Less than a year the unit is rusting and corroding on the condensing housing and aluminum coil. Guess what carrier said, we will do nothing. Need I say more?
We wanted air conditioning, and were told that we needed to buy a new furnace unit combination, so we bought a Carrier. It was 14 years ago, and we have had to have repairs done to this thing, every single year. I will never buy another Carrier product as long as I live. The original furnace was 20 years old, and had only been serviced twice in that time. This is a rental, and in our own home, we have a 37 year old furnace that has been serviced once. Neither one of these furnaces were Carriers. Never buy a furnace with a circuit board. They do not last more than a year. It costs more than $200 every time you get it repaired.
I purchased a Carrier top of the line heat pump system in 11/2004. The compressor lasted almost 6 years. They replaced it with the same Bristol compressor knowing it was defective compressor but promised that if it went bad that they would replace it with a whole new unit at no cost to me. The new and improved unit has a Copeland scroll compressor which seems to be the industry standard. Well, guess what, 6 days out of warranty the second Bristol compressor goes out. It was dimming lights around the house a couple of months before it finally shorted out completely, but too late for me according to Carrier.
I had two Carrier heat pump system installed in my home in southern Georgia 3 1/2 years ago. Since then I have had to have a service person visit 5 times. Today will be the 6th. The first year there was a full coverage so no real problem. After year one its just parts. Today the service company will be replacing the indoor coil on one of the units. The cost to me will be over $800. In the past they replaced a fan motor, a capacitor, twice, made two service calls to repair a electrical short that occurred in the same place inside each unit, though 3 months apart. Byrd Heating and air did the installation and service and they are great. The rest of this write up is my opinion... The problem is the Carrier products are junk. And it hurts me to say that because I lived in Syracuse for most of my life. Carrier was headquartered in Syracuse until they were purchased by United Technologies. They were a great company then, and very very proud of their quality. Something like I am experiencing would never happen, and if it did they would have a factory guy at your door to make it right.
Carrier at Home. Im a 100% disabled veteran and a senior citizen. A faulty heat exchanger resulted in a mandatory disconnection and no heat for 5 days. Carrier Corporate validated my warranty: replace and install part or discount on new furnace. Dealer said 3-day minimum wait if part available to ship over weekend. We opted for a new furnace as 5 days without heat was enough. Carrier found a warranty loophole: You didnt ask our permission first before you took the discount option. Discount denied. Carrier: Our core values define who we are and guide every decision we make.
I recently installed Carrier Performance 96% efficiency gas furnace. It gives me more trouble than comfort. This furnace is way louder than my old 30 year old furnace. The fan motor seems to have two speeds, the noise level of the lower speed is acceptable but when it is in high speed, the noise suddenly turns extremely loud. It is so loud that it often disrupts your sleep especially when the heat kicks in. I paid so much for this furnace and it does not give me the comfort I expected. This furnace is not as advertised as a high-quality brand.
Being a dedicated Carrier dealer, technician and installer for over 20 years in SE Texas, I am sympathetic to all of the unhappy customers who have written reviews. However, just from reading the situations, I believe that the problem lies not in the equipment but in the so called installers and service techs. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of reputable Carrier dealers in any given state. I have personally went behind some of these service companies and have seen the type of installation or service that was performed. To a Factory trained technician, the remedies are often relatively easy and inexpensive to repair. The fault lies not in Carrier equipment, but in the local distributors who willingly sell Carrier equipment to any Jack leg moron who knows how to operate a thermostat. Carrier should monitor their distributorships more closely and see what companies are buying equipment and how many of these are having issues with Carrier junk. Carrier is and will remain a world leader in the HVAC industry, but like everything else, the product is only as good as the person installing or servicing it. Look really closely at your contractor before you blame Carrier. There is not one manufacturer out there who is going to cover a bad install under ANY kind of warranty.
I had 25 year old air conditioner that needed the usual minor repairs every few years, nothing major. My A/C bill was high so I decided to buy a new cost efficient A/C, against several technicians advice. I checked around and was told to by homeowners that Carrier was the one to buy. Theyve had theirs for 20 years without problems. I bought this one less than 2 years ago and have had service technicians out three times and the blower motor changed last year. This weekend it stopped working again and the technician said I needed a new compressor. Major repair. $1,200 cost. Called Carrier to complain and all they told me was that parts are free, but labor is not. The parts may be free, but the shipping is not! This is ridiculous! Less than 2 years old and Carrier is not doing anything about it. Back to homeowners that told me to buy a Carrier, they all bought them when they were made in America. Everyone who is having issues, I wager, their A/C was made in Mexico. Coincidence? I think not!
I decided on a Carrier split system for heating and cooling in an older ranch with electric baseboard heat only. Best decision ever!! It's efficient and cheaper to operate than the new Ruud gas system in my old condo. The heat is so warm. It's not anything like the old heat pumps that seemed to throw cool air for heat. My old condo and my house are about the same size. Both are on slabs. My heating/cooling bills at the house are half of the condo's. What a blessing. Thank you Carrier!!
Bought our Carrier Infinity unit and had it installed in 2009. We were told it was the Cadillac of HVAC systems. Last year one of our thermostats failed which cost $500 to repair, just a few months outside of the warranty. Now, were in the middle of August in 100 degree heat and the entire unit failed completely. We need to replace a compressor, a relay, 2 capacitors and get refrigerant recovery. Total cost: $3,750. Meanwhile our house is sweltering. Despite my frustration, I politely called customer service for advice and the advanced service agent was rude. Theres nothing we can do, youre outside of warranty, sorry. Buyer beware. My advice - if youre buying an AC unit, look into warranty and try to get more than five years.
We installed a Carrier ECO efficient heating and cooling system about 9 years ago, heating worked without any problem but the AC never worked properly. It stops around 81-82 degrees even if we set it to 76 or lower, especially for hot summer days when outside is over 90 degrees. We had Carrier dealers come to check and perform maintenance many times but no help. They said the a/c is fine but might be inside programming problem or controller problem which they cant fix and ask us to contact Carrier. Every time when we called Carrier, we were told to go to local dealers but local Carrier dealer asks us to go to Carrier. We are trying to find out if Carrier can have someone who can run a thorough diagnosis to figure out what is going on but dont know who we can approach. The a/c problem we noticed is a/c doesnt run enough time and stop (sometimes just 1 minutes) even it is far away from the temperature we set on controller (we set to 76, room temperature on controller is 84) then the a/c waits for a long time to restart then doesnt run enough time and stop again. Hope this helps us to get to the right place to fix the issue
Purchased 2 model FB4CNF024 Carrier 2 ton heat pump 7/11/2014 and has had service checks by installer yearly. First blower motor out in 11/17/2015 replaced promptly under warranty. Second blower motor under warranty has just went out 11/23/2016 and told blower motor on back order til February 2017. This is on the same unit in the bedrooms. What is a senior citizen to do with severe neuropathy after brain surgery and very cold sensitive. If you use different motor voids warranty so must go without heat through winter. If I could give Carrier less than one star I would.
Never buy Carrier products...Payne, Carrier or Bryant. My first gas furnace failed because of faulty coils after 10 years...seemed reasonable but there was no warranty. Hvac agent put in new coils knowing they were defective and it cost me thousands. Now the new coils have failed. Hvac agent says $17000 to replace. I went with Trane for total $7,800 incl new ac unit. Never buy Carrier products as they lie and wont support clients.
We have the Infinity Greenspeed heat pump and ac combo. AC not excessively noisy but oh boy the heat pump outside is horrible. Any time the outside temp gets close to 32f and below, the unit is louder than a mack truck. And unfortunately its outside my bedroom window, so sleep is not possible when its running and it runs constantly. It still heats the house ok, just too noisy. Ive had installed and 2 heating cos check it and they say its normal and wont do anything since unit is producing heat. Called Carrier and getting the run around. Called several times and they cant give me a status and never call back. Horrible. Spent over $10k about 3 years ago and its been horrible ever since and no end in sight. NEVER CARRIER AGAIN!!!!!
Bought a state of the art Infinity series heat pump in November 2007 and yesterday December 31st 2013 was told the compressor was shot. I too have the 10 years parts & labor so a new compressor will be paid for, BUT the service tech calls me to his truck and pulls out this paper and tells me how this compressor is a huge piece of crap and there are thousands of issues with these things and his office will be in touch on spending ANOTHER $1500 or more to get another state of the art outside unit he named Green Speed... I am still waiting to hear back from my dealer. I totally understand with it being New Years Day having to wait a few days, but to spend over $5,000 in 2007 and be told, while still under warranty you need to spend $1,500 more for another outside unit is a joke...
Like other reviews we have had many of the same issues. Every change of seasons we have to have service call for a 24vac fuse. We are on our second thermostat, which is not letting us program day temperature. Had circuit boards replaced. This past winter, had the compressor replaced. Were told this will fix the issues we have been having. 3 months later, 24vac fuse call, technician is on our thermostat again. We have the company that installed the unit come in every spring and fall to check the system for proper operation and usually 6 to 8 weeks later it quits working or the 24vac fuse warning comes up. Also have a carrier gas furnace the first year the blower fuse blew. The repair technician left me 2 extra fuses and showed me how to replace it so we did not have to pay someone to come out.
Carrier heat pump problems cooling issues. Too mad to write about it. Unit less than 2 years old and broken down already. I want to join with Melanie from VA in a class action lawsuit.
I built a new home in 2007/2008. I researched and purchased what I was lead to believe was some of finest equipment in HVAC on the market. Boy was I mislead. It was much more pricey than the standard system I was originally quoted but since I was building the home myself for retirement, I wanted the best. The heat pump I purchased was a Bryant Evolution, two stage, variable speed, model # 286-ANA-048000-CBAA, serial # 2907E28649, a 4 ton/16 seer system. Sounds cool but what a piece of junk. The system was roughed in late October 2007 with final installation/operation in late August 2008 when I finished the home.First indication of a problem was a compressor failure the end of March 2009. I was told it was a fluke and the compressor was replaced under warranty. My HVAC system does not experience heavy use or extremes as far as heat and cold because I live in western Washington State where the climate is fairly moderate. In the winter, I burn a lot of wood and the summer we rarely use the A/C. That said, it should be fair to expect even a longer life from this higher end equipment. Not So! In January 2015, I experienced another compressor failure and this is where my true frustration begins.My dealer confirmed that it was in fact another compressor failure and said this had been a much greater problem than Carrier had wished to admit. It was apparently enough of a problem that Carrier was offering a pro-rated replacement program. So my options are: (1) replace the compressor again and take my chances, (2) buy a new replacement Carrier heat pump at a discounted price (approx: $2,000.00) and hope to get a better unit. I have absolutely no problem with the pro-rated idea since I did get some years of service from the original system. The problem is, even though I am technically paying for a new unit, Carrier does not even have enough faith in their own equipment to give me a new warranty. Even if I opt to buy the new replacement unit, they will only recognize the remainder of my original warranty. Is this ridiculous or what? If they were simply replacing my unit at no cost to me, because the original unit was crap, then I would have no beef at all with this ridiculous policy. But in essence, I am paying for the new unit both with more cash and the expectation that the original higher end system that I paid a premium price for would last far longer than it did. The last standard grade heat pump I had on my previous home lasted 18 years. So, whats wrong with this picture. When my dealer gave me these options and explained this warranty, I didnt believe it. So I called Carrier customer service. After talking with a representative and then a senior representative named Diane, I was told the dealer was correct and that was all Carrier was willing to do for me. I explained to Diane that this system had failed previously in 2009 but this made no difference. This was all Carrier was willing to offer even with their higher end systems. Very sad that even they dont have enough confidence in their equipment to give a person a new warranty on new equipment. Needless to say I will no longer be using or recommend Carrier equipment to anyone, EVER. This policy and the way they stand by their products and treat their customers is simply horrible. DONT BUY CARRIER !!!!! So now I will be paying another $5,000.00 to buy a Trane and my big investment just 7 years ago is gone.One last note about some of their higher end products. My neighbor and long-time friend built a home next to me a few months after I built mine. Never guess what my recommendation was to him on HVAC for his house. Yep you got it, same junk. While he did not experience a compressor failure early on like I did, he did experience other smaller issues. However, his system failed (compressor) in the spring of 2014. His system was approximately 1 year newer than mine so his pro-rated cost to replace in April 2014 was approx: $1,500.00 instead of the $2,000.00 I was asked to pay. Ok, so good for him. He got a new replacement system (for a 5-6 year old system) for $1,500.00, AND a NEW Warranty that started from the day his new system arrived. So I would say this was good business on Carriers part by essentially continuing his HVAC experience for a pro-rated amount and giving him a new warranty on a new product. Something must have happened between April 2014 and the end of the year (probably more failures), because as I said earlier, Carrier no longer has the faith in their equipment to give a new warranty on new products. In case I forgot to say this, DONT BUY CARRIER and tell all your family, friends, and co-workers.
Two-year-old system does not remove humidity from our home despite four service calls and a compressor replacement. The condensing unit never drains water and the Carrier dealer who installed the unit says all is okay/normal. As a result the humidity level in the house is always high, sometimes more than it is inside. Only two adults live in the home and the bathrooms/laundry room are well vented/exhausted. Does not appear from what I read that Carrier cares. Can the problem be linked to the refrigerant no longer being Freon? I have placed a portable dehumidifer upstairs which helps some and removes several quarts of water daily. We live in high humidity Indiana. Suggestions?
I installed a 5-HP air-conditioning unit through an authorized Carrier distributor and the a/c does not work from day one of usage. After many complaints and after almost 30 days of waiting, they decided to replace the fan. They took it out, but after almost waiting for another one week, they came and said that they will fix it. I asked them to replace it as they promised from the beginning - in addition as to why the customer should accept malfunction from a brand new equipment. Then, they started this repairing trip from day one - very bad, slow response and support from Carrier and their distributor.
Had new Carrier air conditioner installed by Bloomington Heat and Air 7 years ago. Last year A/C failed and a hard start was added. A/C failed this week and I was informed compressor was bad. Good news, compressor covered by warranty... BAD news... labor and install is $1000. Nice. My old unit lasted 30 years. Nice progress.
I purchased a heating and cooling package from Sears on about 10/15/2012. It was installed 10/23/2012. The unit did fine the first year but on about 12/20/2013 the heat pump began to fail to heat like it should and in about a week time, would not heat at all. So I called sears and they sent out a tech to found out the problem. He found a defective shift valve. Now being that, the manufacturer had known of this problem you would think that they would at least cover the labor being that it was a manufacturers issue from the start, not. Even though the parts are cover they want me to pay labor cost. I dont think thats these companies care about product but profit. The car company are made to fix their problem - why not the heat and cooling companies.
My HVAC system from Carrier has worked well from the start and has never skipped a beat. It is the best system I’ve ever owned. And the price was affordable as well. And guess what - I work for Trane!
I should have known better not to purchase a Carrier heat pump when Carrier doesnt do site visits like Trane. My Carrier heat pump had a service recall on the thermostat the first month, no notification. My coil now has a service recall because of a manufacturing defect, no service recall notification or call. It add insult to injury, they will not allow me to use my Cool Cash Rebate of $250 and I have to pay for the coil to be installed. They cant even tell me how long it takes to install the coil. The deal is telling me 4 to 5 hours at $110 and another hour to determine the problem to begin which should have been automatic because of the service recall issue. There is no customer service and the Carrier is a piss poor product and the guarantee of 10 years is a joke!
I am satisfied. I hoped for a little more efficiency, since I was replacing a 40 year old unit. It does provide very steady heat and have had no issues so far.
The HVAC system was installed, new, in March of 2015. It seems unreasonable that the evaporator coil should fail within three years, but it (and my neighbors) did after about three years. Sure parts are warranted, but the labor was excessive for the repair. Id look elsewhere for a good unit if you have the opportunity.
Three top of the line Carrier units installed in the fall of 2006 has 100% rust and mold in all the copper evaporator coils inside the 3 air handlers. It has undergone consistent maintenance and service in the spring and fall every year. I contacted Carrier with the problem and they refused any assistance because the 5 year warranty has expired on the component, even though the local Carrier dealer who installed and serviced the units confirmed it is a manufacturing problem. The 3 unit models are: FV4BNF002, serial # 1606A82006; FV4BNF005, serial # 1106A87390; and FV4BNF005, serial # 4805A85599.If anyone reading this review is planning on installing a Carrier unit, please think twice and also read the 80+ other similar complaints. Also, please pass the word around so that others will not have to go through similar experience. The builder convinced us to install these Carrier units when we were considering another leading HVAC brand known for its excellent customer service and product reliability.
I replaced 4 or 5 of my a/c units in my home in Playa Del Carmen with Carrier because I thought I was getting a superior product. I was totally wrong. These units have lasted less time than my cheaper Chinese units at half the cost. One unit has had a control board failure twice in one year and the unit is less than a year and a half old! And of course the Carrier dealer in Cancun warranties nothing. So, needless to say, I am never buying Carrier again.
