We are told we most likely have a small leak but that these leaks are very difficult to find. Almost $300 again this year. If I want to pay to have them find the leak and then flush the system and replace the coolant the cost will be another $1000. Sorry to say we are very disappointed with this expensive purchase with which we have no recourse.

Now on February 12, 2013, the control board on the same unit needs to be replaced. This unit cools our bonus room upstairs and is set to cool at 80 and heat at 62, so it is not used a lot. Again, I have to pay labor to have it fixed. I am really upset to have a 2-year-old unit go bad. By the way, the heat strips set off my fire alarm after the initial install, the first time the heat pump came on. I paid lots of money for this unit and another 5 ton Infinity. I would be willing to join the class action since this is a lemon.

Yes, it cost us more than buying a regular window type air conditioner but because this Carrier split type has the inverter technology, it is more energy efficient therefore lower electric bills for us. It also cools the room faster and it is very quiet. You dont even know its already on because it doesnt create one sound. It also comes with a remote control that is very easy to use. The compressor recently failed after 10 years and 6 months. Through our HVAC repair company, we knew that Carrier has had problems with the Bristol compressors (which are no longer used) and our repair company should know since they have been a dealer for almost 30 years.I contacted Carrier customer service and customer relations personnel by telephone and I made them aware (although they didnt acknowledge) of the companys compressor problems. I asked two questions : 1) would Carrier provide some satisfaction to our situation with regard to how close to the warranty the failure occurred? and 2) if we should choose to purchase a new Carrier unit, would the company provide any type of recompense toward the cost of the new unit? Carrier provided nothing in response to my inquiries. Essentially, No, were not going to provide any measure of customer relief or satisfaction and with the tone of, nor do we really care if you take your business elsewhere. This I will certainly do!

Recently the compressor went out and upon trying to replace it, I was told the warranty was only good if the products were registered. They (Customer Relations at Corporate Office) stated that registration for the unit was not completed. It only shows the registration for the furnace which extends that warranty from 5 years to 10 but did not show the same for the compressor.Therefore they would not honor the warranty for the compressor. I told them there must be a mistake since why would only one part of the system be registered and not the complete unit. They refused to do anything to remedy the matter. So I am stuck with a bill of several thousand dollars to repair or replace the system. Also, I had to replace the coils three years ago. I purchased this higher priced unit because it is one of their top products and the warranty. I am very disappointed with the unit and with the company response.

I have had the coil in the furnace replaced, the blower motor replaced, a leak repaired on the outside unit and once again I am without air conditioning waiting on a service call which will take 3 days. My units carry a 5 year warranty (parts only, labor was for one year I believe) which could have been extended to 10 if my units were registered (for marketing purposes I was told) within 90 days of closing on my home. With the mountain of paperwork/moving/dealing with banks/contractor I missed this deadline. I cannot say they, I wasnt handled a piece of paper at some time telling me to do so. Even though I am still in the initial warranty period, and Carrier could obtain my data for marketing purposes, they will not extend my warranty for the additional 5 years.That being said this equipment should not have failed so many times in such a short period of time. I have had no issues with any of the other appliances in my home, only my Carrier equipment. They treat their warranty like rebate cards. They know most people wont register their equipment so they can get out of the additional years of warranty. I only found out about this from a different Carrier dealer who will now be servicing my equipment. Buy something else. The equipment I have is unreliable and thus far I have not been impressed with their service. I did not have a choice as my builder had the equipment installed, when it is replaced I will stay away from Carrier.

After several visits by several technicians they replaced a low pressure switch and a coil in the inside unit. Last occurred last fall. I turn the unit on the spring and no A/C. Called the company that installed it since it is still under the 5 year labor 10 year parts warranty. It required 2 lbs of Puron. They never checked for a leak but recommended I have a nitrogen test that would cost me $800.00. I asked why I have to pay for a leak test under warranty. The tech told me that it is not covered under warranty. So they will continue to put Freon in until it goes out of warranty in August then it is all on me. A wasted 9k. Never ever buy or recommend Carrier products to anyone.

September of 2016 my heat pump was making a metal on metal sound so I had a hunch I was having a Freon leak. I called my service technician who confirmed via a nitrogen test that I had a Freon leak. This basically is a new unit since it doesnt get used very often. I called Carrier to see if they would help with labor charges as my brand new unit now is going to cost $1,500 to fix just in labor charges which includes the $507 charge to test for the freon leak plus another $105 to replace freon. They were less than sympathetic and fully stated they do not help with labor charges no matter the circumstance.I will never use another Carrier product. I will never refer anybody to purchase I carry your product. I had faith in the company that installed it realizing they dont know the products that they get from the company from the distributor. Im highly just satisfied with Carrier and I think it class action suit needs to be brought against them for POOR products.

Three top of the line Carrier units installed in the fall of 2006 has 100% rust and mold in all the copper evaporator coils inside the 3 air handlers. It has undergone consistent maintenance and service in the spring and fall every year. I contacted Carrier with the problem and they refused any assistance because the 5 year warranty has expired on the component, even though the local Carrier dealer who installed and serviced the units confirmed it is a manufacturing problem. The 3 unit models are: FV4BNF002, serial # 1606A82006; FV4BNF005, serial # 1106A87390; and FV4BNF005, serial # 4805A85599.If anyone reading this review is planning on installing a Carrier unit, please think twice and also read the 80+ other similar complaints. Also, please pass the word around so that others will not have to go through similar experience. The builder convinced us to install these Carrier units when we were considering another leading HVAC brand known for its excellent customer service and product reliability.

As of May, 2015 the unit was making an unusual loud noise, although the technician was not able to find anything wrong. In August, 2016 the unit was making a loud noise again. This time we also noticed water leaking and that the unit will successively go on and off. The technician determined that the units expansion valve was faulty. In August 2016 the repair was completed. While the parts were covered under the warranty, we incurred expenses for the labor in amount of $375.00. In addition to the expense incurred and the hindrance of not having AC in 100 degrees weather, we had to twice take time off from our jobs, once to have the unit inspected and a second time to have the repairs done, which took nearly 5 hours to complete. We were disappointed to say the least and find it unacceptable that a new unit that has been in use for less than 2 years, to have such issues.To resolve the problem, we contacted Carrier and kindly requested a full reimbursement of the $375.00 cost we incurred. Per our online research, this issue has happened to other Carrier users and we deem this to be a flaw in the manufacturing of the system, and not normal wear and tear. The response back was that, while they are sorry for the inconvenience created by their system, they cant help us as they are not responsible for the labor cost we incurred! After we spent close to $7k on a new unit, I find it unacceptable to have to spend another $400 in the second year on repairs!

AC unit is less than 10 years old and per Iceman I have had 4 leaks, needed 3 evaporator coils and possible condenser coils all of which is not covered under the warranty. Carrier says nothing they can do, I have the contract with Iceman and have to use them. If I want to try to find another Carrier Dealer to honor my extended warranty I can try. No AC unit should need an evaporator coil every 2 years and continue to leak for 8 years straight. I need a new thermostat and cant get one because Iceman cant diagnose the correct problem because the thermostat is under warranty and I can only get a new thermostat from a Carrier Dealer and Iceman wont get me one.

Like others, it seems that a few months right out of warranty something breaks. I installed a top of the line Infinity 96 5 years ago. Last week the furnace motor stops operating. My service company followed the repair instructions that suggests replacement of a main PC board and then a motor module. It turns out the main PC board did not need replacement and the motor module was defective - a couple of months outside warranty. Carrier wont accept the unused main PC board back once it was opened. At wholesale cost I was out $900 for the two parts. I would wish that Carrier would accept the PC board back for credit and replace the motor module under warranty. So far I have had no luck going up the chain at Carrier. Any suggestions would be welcome.

In 2006, my AC failed and I paid approximately $100 to replace freon. In 2007, I replaced freon again. In 2008, I replaced freon again and then they discovered my coil had a hole in it. In all, I spent over $500 in freon charges and labor that were not covered by the warranty in the first 4 years I owned the home. A year later, my compressor wont start and I had to fix that. Then my compressor went out a year later. Now my compressor wont start again. The HVAC people will only tell me it has age on it. It is 7 years old. I have spent over $1000 of my own money fixing it. In between the yearly (and in two cases twice yearly) breakdowns of the AC unit, my heater failed in 2009.

We had always had a TRANE but went with a local company that promised we would be satisfied. In December 2010, we started having trouble. December 2010 we replaced the first compressor. January 2011, August 2011, October 2011, October 2011. We went through 3 compressors which our dealer failed to point out. After two, we hired another repair company and at this point we knew we were on number three. By this time, it is Labor Day 2013.He replaced the third compressor in September 2013 and found out that Carrier knew of the problems. Our local company, Simmons Heating and Air would not do anything about it either. December 2013 and now it is the capacitor and start cap relay. We tried to work out a solution with Carrier and our local Simmons Heating and Air. We decided to spend another $1400.00 to have the unit replaced in 2013. We now have Model Number 25HNB648A003. It is Labor Day, 2014 and we are sitting in 100 degree weather in North Carolina. The repairman showed up today and said it is now the blower in the air handler, which has a 5 year warranty which is now not covered. The repairman from Simmons said it is a very expensive part. So we are now past $16,000.00 after only six years of owning the unit. If I could afford it I would send the Carrier back to the company and have a new TRANE unit installed. ALL I CAN SAY IS RUN. DO NOT THINK TWICE... DO NOT INSTALL A CARRIER SYSTEM.

I too bought a Carrier 3.5 ton split system a/c for my home in May of 2008. During the first year the installer would fix all the minor problems as they popped up, no out of pocket expenses. The 2nd year it started getting expensive. Refrigerant leaks, fan motors quitting, coils leaking and needing to be replaced, drip pan cracking and leaking, pounds of Puron added, startup capacitor replaced three times, and today 2.5 pounds of Puron. The only thing that hasnt quit yet is the compressor. I have spent a great sum of money from the yearly fix up. Carrier is undependable and expensive. My buddy had similar problems with his carrier. He installed his in 2007. After the 4th year of breaking down, he called a Trane dealer and had a unit installed. Up till now never a repair. He said for me to save my money and switch to TRANE.

Three trips and the company assured me they had corrected all items. In just under three years, cooling coils on both units of the two-unit system failed and had to be replaced. Replacement coils were furnished under warranty but the bill was $1500. I hired another company to do an analysis of system. Based on this inspection, I filed a formal complaint with state licensing bureau. Finally, about $4,000 worth of corrective action was performed at no charge. Corrections included the installation of an additional return air ducting that was not installed but was on original design.Well, now 3 years and 5 months later, the cooling coil on one unit has again failed leaking out all Puron over a weekend. Carrier will not provide replacement coil under warranty. Work is being completed today and Id guess the bill will be around $1500. So HVAC repairs of $3000+ in 6 years on new home has to be considered unacceptable quality.

Carrier declined to comment about their unit failing after 1 year, or consider replacing the unit. The parts were under warranty, but the labor would cost almost $1000.00. Carrier said they would send a representative out to the installer company to review the issue, but after a month of me trying to find out the status of the issue, they finally just told me that there was nothing they would do. I would not recommend this company for air conditioners. High priced products with lousy quality.

It was 14 years ago, and we have had to have repairs done to this thing, every single year. I will never buy another Carrier product as long as I live. The original furnace was 20 years old, and had only been serviced twice in that time. This is a rental, and in our own home, we have a 37 year old furnace that has been serviced once. Neither one of these furnaces were Carriers. Never buy a furnace with a circuit board. They do not last more than a year. It costs more than $200 every time you get it repaired.

After installing the compressor, a valve in the heat exchange unit in the garage was found to be defective. A year later, the unit lost pressure, which was traced to a leaking canister next to the compressor (Im not sure what its called). The technician convinced Carrier to supply the part, but labor again was going to be $1500, but was reduced to $325. DONT EVER BUY A CARRIER! If I have any more problems, Im going to bite the bullet and replace this piece of crap which I can never depend on.

The repair technician came out Saturday around 3:00 pm and said that it was the motor and that Carrier knows these are bad motors, but they wont do anything about them until they break. They last roughly 2-2.5 years before they need replaced. I have already replaced at least 40 this year and thats just me.... I have three other partners!. Of course, he said that it wouldnt be able to be taken care of until Monday after he contacted Carrier. On Monday, he ordered the part and Tuesday around noon, he actually came and fixed it. If anyone knows what the weather is like in September in South Carolina, then you know that there were FOUR VERY UNCOMFORTABLE NIGHTS OF SLEEP (youre not getting much sleep when it is hot and humid... all a fan did was circulate the hot air). I wish that I had known about all these problems with Carrier before we built our house 2.5 years ago! I can assure you that from here on out, that for me, it will be hard to stop a Trane. I have asked two different technicians now, who they thought makes the best unit, and both unquestionably said Trane. Thanks to Carrier, I am now out $300 because of a known faulty motor (sorry to everyone else who has spent more money because I know that sounds like chump change, but I definitely would like spending that on something else). Next month I watched the thermostat as it stated the backup strips were running constantly AGAIN. The air-handler would blow cold air even when outside temps were in the mid 30s. When the pump couldnt meet the thermostat demand, on comes the electric strips... up goes my electric bill! I turned off the heat strips to tell the system to use heat pump only, but the only thing I get now is a constantly running air-handler and a VERY cold house. Buyer beware of Carriers low-quality product and marketing HYPE. This is NOT your fathers Carrier of yesterday.

My coil now has a service recall because of a manufacturing defect, no service recall notification or call. It add insult to injury, they will not allow me to use my Cool Cash Rebate of $250 and I have to pay for the coil to be installed. They cant even tell me how long it takes to install the coil. The deal is telling me 4 to 5 hours at $110 and another hour to determine the problem to begin which should have been automatic because of the service recall issue. There is no customer service and the Carrier is a piss poor product and the guarantee of 10 years is a joke!

(4 systems in all) In 2015 the first copper coil developed a leak due to formicary corrosion (supposedly a reaction with my foam insulation) and the other 3 all followed by mid 2017 and were replaced by aluminum coils. (Warranty) Supposedly the aluminum would not react with the foam insulation. However, an aluminum coil installed in 2016 has now failed/leaked due to the same issue. The aluminum coils are only warranted for one year so now I am faced with replacing the whole air handler in order to get a 10 year warranty since replacing the coil costs almost the same amount with only a one year warranty. I understand the same issue is rampant in the industry so I do not understand how any company can survive by providing a product they know is destined for early failure. I have heard that tin plating solves the issue but I also heard that aluminum solved the issue. Obviously, I am disgusted with Carrier but do not know how to force them to upfront with the issue and take care of their customers.

It kicks in auxiliary heat in the air handler often cause the heatpump is unable to provide enough hot air by itself to even warm the house and I live in Florida!. I expect my electric bill to go up by $300.00 more a month with this American engineered and built crap. The ac company and installers said this is normal for a Carrier comfort heatpump constantly blowing ambient air in heat mode and constantly running and hardly ever shutting off.Tried calling Carrier to tell them the problem and they referred me back to the ac company. My foreign made Trane heatpump heated the house well before it broke down after 20 years of use. Heard that an American company bought Trane and the new Trane heatpumps being built are also crap. So, that is why I went with Carrier. I had zero issues with the way they treated me but the message was poor. I will try to keep this as short as possible. We purchased a 3.5 year old home last year. The previous owner almost never used the AC. He figured that they ran it maybe 3 weeks total in the 3 years they had the home. We purchased mid summer and ran it sparingly last year. This spring we had to have it charged and again 6 weeks later. Another month later it was out of refrigerant again. They came in with a sniffing tool and found a leak in the evaporator coil. We had $500 into service calls at this point. I was told that it was manufactured on Aug 19th, 2011. I called in Monday August 22nd, 2016 and was basically told that I was out of luck because the warranty ran out on Friday. The fact was that it was not installed until October 20th, 2011 but no one could produce the original receipt. The original owner, original builder, original HVAC installer and current HVAC company all offered to call in or write up letters detailing the issue but I was told an original receipt was my only option. I would not recommend or ever use Carrier again. The repair cost me $1400 to go along with $500 in service calls and time off work. Poor quality and VERY VERY poor customer service. I would have been happy if they would have just warrantied the unit. I completely understand that labor is not something anyone would cover.

Back to the noise issues: We had Expert Heating & Cooling come back to our house a handful of times to try to determine and fix the excessive noises that were being sent throughout the home. #1. They replaced a portion of the factory AC line with a suction line at the unit. This new line is an eyesore and looks ugly. It did however quiet it down quite a bit (if we had not complained we wouldve been stuck with the excessively loud noise - now we have an ugly tube at the AC unit). Our old unit was quiet and not an eyesore #2. The new Carrier thermostat made a loud annoying click that everyone in the living room could hear each time the unit turned on and each time it turned off (our old replaced thermostat was quiet) - the new one was unacceptable. Again, they came out and replaced it with one that doesnt make a loud click. #3. Excessive/continuous blower whining or howling coming from the brand new furnace. This steady whirling whining noise permeates through the entire house and you can hear it at every vent - its very annoying. They tried to address it numerous times; They slowed down the blower speed but that wasnt the answer. Another time, both Expert and Carrier came out to the house and replaced the blower - - the whistle from the blower was still the same. Carrier said this is the way the new blower sounds and that we would have to get used to it - (there is NO getting used to it so far). Carrier mentioned that its possible we could try an older generation blower but we would lose some of the energy efficiencies that we gain on the new one. Carrier also mentioned that they could insulate some of our ducts near the furnace to quiet things down. Today the whistle still exists. So, in summary: we were very very impressed with Expert Heating & Coolings professionalism and customer care. However, we are very disappointed with the Carrier products we received. Please let us know if something can be done (without compromising the efficiencies of our new system) to remove the whistle noise. 12/7/2018 update - Carrier never responded to this note I submitted to them on their website. (and no, this howling noise is not caused by little air leaks or whistles in the air ducts, its from the motor)

I do love the low speed variable heating as it keeps a gentle constant heat. Cooling is also good and efficient. Both units, however, have been unreliable. In October 2014 the furnace broke. We needed a new inducer motor. They dont keep parts at Carrier, so it took several days to get the part. Cost me $400 for labor and other parts. In July 2015 air conditioning unit leaked and had to have coolant replaced. In May 2016, the unit would not start during routine twice a year maintenance service agreement we had with installer. There were multiple leaks and the entire outside unit and coil had to be replaced. The installer was great and didnt charge for labor since we had repeated problems with the unit. Carrier again did not have parts on hand, so had to wait a week on parts. Still cost me $600 in additional installer parts not covered by Carrier. So, on this supposed high end system, both the furnace and air conditioner have had major failures in under 3 years of use and these have cost me over $1000 out of pocket. Obviously, my conclusion is that Carrier Infinity Greenspeed is a piece of junk.

Conclusion, Carriers best furnace is of poor quality & controllers are poor quality. Nobodys perfect, however, I expected they would own up to it. Nope, support is poor quality too. Very disappointing.

And it takes more than 10 days to order the motor in todays world when everything you order from Amazon can arrive in 2 days.When I called Carrier to file a complaint, the lady I spoke with was supposed to be a senior level rep, and she was even more disappointing. Please note, I wasnt even asking them for anything. My repairs are covered by a service policy I already had. I just wanted to let them know my frustration as a consumer, and I think given the good reputation I have heard about Carrier, you would think how their customers are feeling about their quality and service. Well, this lady blamed everything on distributors and installers, and said Carrier provides 10 year parts warranty and thats all they can do. She basically said Why are you wasting my time by calling me. without using those words.Well, for a state of the art system such as Carrier Infinity, you probably wouldnt expect to shut down for 2 weeks every year in the hottest days of the summer. And you would probably expect Carrier to care more about the quality and service experienced by their highest paying customers. We were never informed that you must register Carrier products within 90 days to receive the advertised 10 year warranty. I called about a year after install and thought it would be an easy adjustment for them to give us the full warranty but I was told by one agent and then her supervisor that they each always register their own personal products within the required time and I should learn to do the same. I wasnt amused by their advise. They then only were willing to give the minimum 5 year parts only warranty and replaced multiple air handler blower motors, control boards, temp sensors, controls, condenser unit fan motors and more parts without paying any labor. Fortunately due to having 4 units, when one downstairs unit goes out the cool air from upstairs keeps it very comfortable in our main area of the house, and if you didnt check the thermostat you would never know one was out. Our main area unit has been out for the last 6 months. On three separate service trips to repair the unit, it would go back out between a few hours to the next day. I was unsure when our 5 year warranty was over and as it turns out we had a tech back 4 days after the expiration, and on this trip another condenser fan motor was bad. Carrier Infinity units use a very high dollar motor, the book installed price without warranty is about $1400. I called Carrier and asked about a goodwill extension on that motor but was informed that as it may have been out while under warranty, it is now a few days past the expiration so it is not covered. These failures were not due to poor installation as there are 4 units all with different problems and were installed by a company that Carrier actually recommends as a top installer and they were as well as other companies were back to try to do many repairs. This seems to be a common Carrier experience. I read comments from Carrier dealers defending the product trying to deflect criticism on other installers but thats not realistic. I hope my experience helps others decide on a purchase and remember that even if they gave a 10 year warranty, you still pay for the labor to repair unreliable equipment.

I have a Carrier-Payne A/C heat pump that was installed in a new construction in late 2005 or early 2006. I do not know the specific model number. Up until about 2 years ago, the unit ran problem-free. Since that time, I have had nothing but problems. The unit will quit heating/cooling without warning. The outside fan (not sure what its called) does not come on when the unit comes on and the compressor kicks out to prevent overheating. I can turn the unit off for a few hours and when I turn it back on, it runs fine for hours, days or weeks. It’s totally unpredictable. A technician will come out tomorrow for at least the 6th time. He has replaced a variety of electronic modules, the outside fan twice and added freon once, even though it was not critically low. He is at a loss on what to do next to try and fix it. Neither he nor I have called Carrier and after reading these posts, it would probably be a waste of time. I am paranoid about this unit and had to have someone house sit while I was on vacation just to keep a check on the A/C. Based on all of the compressor problems Ive read about, Im thinking that is the next thing to go out. I cant think of a compelling reason to replace this Carrier with another one.

Last Friday, our air conditioning went out. It is now Tuesday and there has been no resolution or help from Carriers online or phone center. We replaced the air handling unit ($900) two weeks ago. Now, the compressor is bad in our main unit. We called the company that installed the units and they showed up and found that it was the compressor. When they submitted the information on the warranty, they found that Carrier knows that the units are bad and has a program to replace the compressor with a different brand. So, the guys filled out all of the paperwork (Bristol Program Audit Form) and run the diagnostic tests to prove to Carrier that it is the compressor. There was a long list of serial numbers and models included in this list (I call a recall list). Upon returning the information to the Columbia, SC representative to get authorization for the part, they are told that since they are now not a certified Carrier service center, that they are unable to do the repairs. So we have had to start the process all over again. The service technician seems baffled since they let him do one less than two weeks ago, with the same faulty product.Additionally, the service company is not sure that the new $900 air handler with be compatible with the new compressor, if we ever get one. The temperature inside of our home is 84 degrees and it is supposed to reach 100 degrees by Friday. Since I have three of these units, I am concerned about the future of the units and the failure of Carrier to be proactive in replacing the compressors that they know have been faulty. Again, calling the 1-800- CARRIER number just led me to someone telling me that it is my home and my problem to handle and that the problems with the compressors are very limited. However, it must not be very limited to have a written protocol for the diagnosis of the problems and the units affected.

A new one was installed and Puron re-added and all good, maybe a one off defect right? 4 years later same thing, now the HVAC guys all say its the fact they used copper and aluminum coils with high pressure Puron, a known failure waiting to happen. The new coil I have coming this week is all aluminum, and it covered under warranty still! But not the 2K plus cost for dyte, Puron, then replacement and yes more Puron! Calling Carrier is a joke, you get top level support that says I need to send an email to the review board. Buy some cheap Chinese AC unit. It will last longer or at least as long.

Today I was told by the installer that my blower motor was out and that it was under warranty. Later I was told that the 10 year warranty I was sold was not valid because I did not register it online within 90 days of the installation. We were never told by the installer that we needed to do this to have the warranty. In fact the page of information that was torn from the book and had the serial numbers on it does not even have any statement regarding the need to register the product within 90 days in order to obtain the 10 year warranty. Not even hidden in the fine print. Carrier instead requires the installer to make sure that the buyer knows that they need to register online. Both my wife and I work and we are not even sure if either of us were home when this work was completed as we had contractors working at the house. I took this all the way up to a Senior Person at Carrier. I was told by them nothing they can do, take it up with the installer. They will not allow you to go back and register your product. If this company is as good as the other installers that have posted say, then I would think that Carrier itself would allow the consumer to register the product retroactively, especially when the homeowner was not aware of the requirement. Im not even saying they should pay for the immediate service, my installer will take care of that because that falls on him, but to screw the homeowner out of the rest of the warranty shows a definite lack of support for their products. What happens now if my installer goes out of business or sells his business to someone else? I agree with the others on this blog who have wrote no Carrier ever again. I have an older Trane unit in the upstairs that has not given me one problem. I guarantee when that needs to be replaced, it wont be with a Carrier!

They towed the line on warranty terms and conditions and wouldnt transfer me to a Manager. Given my experience, I will never purchase Carrier equipment again.

It was much more pricey than the standard system I was originally quoted but since I was building the home myself for retirement, I wanted the best. The heat pump I purchased was a Bryant Evolution, two stage, variable speed, model # 286-ANA-048000-CBAA, serial # 2907E28649, a 4 ton/16 seer system. Sounds cool but what a piece of junk. The system was roughed in late October 2007 with final installation/operation in late August 2008 when I finished the home.First indication of a problem was a compressor failure the end of March 2009. I was told it was a fluke and the compressor was replaced under warranty. My HVAC system does not experience heavy use or extremes as far as heat and cold because I live in western Washington State where the climate is fairly moderate. In the winter, I burn a lot of wood and the summer we rarely use the A/C. That said, it should be fair to expect even a longer life from this higher end equipment. Not So! In January 2015, I experienced another compressor failure and this is where my true frustration begins.My dealer confirmed that it was in fact another compressor failure and said this had been a much greater problem than Carrier had wished to admit. It was apparently enough of a problem that Carrier was offering a pro-rated replacement program. So my options are: (1) replace the compressor again and take my chances, (2) buy a new replacement Carrier heat pump at a discounted price (approx: $2,000.00) and hope to get a better unit. I have absolutely no problem with the pro-rated idea since I did get some years of service from the original system. The problem is, even though I am technically paying for a new unit, Carrier does not even have enough faith in their own equipment to give me a new warranty. Even if I opt to buy the new replacement unit, they will only recognize the remainder of my original warranty. Is this ridiculous or what? If they were simply replacing my unit at no cost to me, because the original unit was crap, then I would have no beef at all with this ridiculous policy. But in essence, I am paying for the new unit both with more cash and the expectation that the original higher end system that I paid a premium price for would last far longer than it did. The last standard grade heat pump I had on my previous home lasted 18 years. So, whats wrong with this picture. When my dealer gave me these options and explained this warranty, I didnt believe it. So I called Carrier customer service. After talking with a representative and then a senior representative named Diane, I was told the dealer was correct and that was all Carrier was willing to do for me. I explained to Diane that this system had failed previously in 2009 but this made no difference. This was all Carrier was willing to offer even with their higher end systems. Very sad that even they dont have enough confidence in their equipment to give a person a new warranty on new equipment. Needless to say I will no longer be using or recommend Carrier equipment to anyone, EVER. This policy and the way they stand by their products and treat their customers is simply horrible. DONT BUY CARRIER !!!!! So now I will be paying another $5,000.00 to buy a Trane and my big investment just 7 years ago is gone.One last note about some of their higher end products. My neighbor and long-time friend built a home next to me a few months after I built mine. Never guess what my recommendation was to him on HVAC for his house. Yep you got it, same junk. While he did not experience a compressor failure early on like I did, he did experience other smaller issues. However, his system failed (compressor) in the spring of 2014. His system was approximately 1 year newer than mine so his pro-rated cost to replace in April 2014 was approx: $1,500.00 instead of the $2,000.00 I was asked to pay. Ok, so good for him. He got a new replacement system (for a 5-6 year old system) for $1,500.00, AND a NEW Warranty that started from the day his new system arrived. So I would say this was good business on Carriers part by essentially continuing his HVAC experience for a pro-rated amount and giving him a new warranty on a new product. Something must have happened between April 2014 and the end of the year (probably more failures), because as I said earlier, Carrier no longer has the faith in their equipment to give a new warranty on new products. In case I forgot to say this, DONT BUY CARRIER and tell all your family, friends, and co-workers.

It was running fine after 16 yrs but minor repairs were beginning to occur and at the urging of our furnace installer suggested we upgrade with a new one. So six years ago we replaced the furnace which was still functioning ok with the latest Carrier furnace. Well six years have passed and we have not had one complete heating season with the new furnace without it failing. It has been a continuum of hard lockouts with no heat in the dead of winter. Over the course of the six years we have paid for the cost of the furnace with service call fees replacement parts to include a new oil tank which they said was a possible cause of the furnace malfunctioning which to this date have not resolved the problems. Carrier has been absolutely useless in trying to fix this problem in a timely manner and kept telling the furnace people to try this and try that - all at my expense. As a company who provides consumer products as important as a furnace one would think they would be more responsive to the issue but all they have done is stonewall me at every step and meanwhile I still have a faulty furnace that they will not fix or replace. At this point I will have to replace this nightmare with a different furnace manufacturer and hope that their product and company backing will be what one would expect as a consumer. I will never again purchase anything from Carrier and I will certainly never recommend their product to anyone.

The air conditioner was originally installed on May 3, 2007 and cost $7,600 for the unit and a 10 year warranty. On July 5, 2010 the compressor went out and again on May 22, 2015 the compressor went out again. After lots of phone calls and much aggravation I have found that they used Bristol compressors and would be using that same product previously installed when installing this compressor. If that compressor has a high failure rate why do they continue to use them? However they would install another condenser for $2545 (cost from Airflow cost from Carrier was $1545) made by another company. It took quite a while to get in touch with anyone that actually works for the Carrier Corporation to find out what kind of support they provide for ineffective products. I contacted the corporate offices for Carrier (5/22/2015) and they only meet once a month to discuss this kind of issue and I got a reply 3 weeks (6/15/2015) after the request for help resolving this matter. So the choices were to go with what is covered under the warranty and has gone out twice in the past 7 years or pay a large sum of money to replace this unit that seems to be problematic. What is the point of having a warranty if you are going to continue to get ineffective products installed? I am also wondering why this company thinks that I would spend that much money with them again instead of going with a company that has a better reputation! Keeping in mind that I have an extended warranty for parts and labor for this air conditioner.

In both cases, the technicians informed me that this is a known issue to Carrier with furnaces built between 2000 and 2012. In fact, they have been sued for this exact problem. In both cases, the part was under warranty; however, Carrier does not cover the cost of labor. Labor is the most expensive part! They also replace the exchanger with the same exact part that is known to fail! The cost of the labor and the other impacted parts cost half as much as a new furnace. In both cases, the technicians, which I trust, suggested that I not put any more money into the old furnace. The CO levels were through the roof, so they refused to turn the furnace back on due to safety concerns. Of course, the most recent happened during 3-degree weather in Minnesota.I feel cheated by Carrier for leaving flawed furnaces in the market. I feel cheated by Carrier for only covering the part (heat exchanger) when labor alone for that item is $1300. I feel cheated by Carrier for conveniently only covering standard parts for 5 years when furnaces are expected to last 15 years. I feel cheated by Carrier/UTC because my new furnace had to either be a Bryant or Carrier brand because my house was frozen and I had no time to research other service providers and their offerings. No reason to call customer service with Carrier. They elevated the issue to Level 2 support, which then told me to email their Management Review Board. I sent that email 10 days ago with no response yet. I have to be one of their top customers this year after purchasing two furnaces and an AC. At least have some respect and send a response that you are reviewing the complaint!

I replaced the condenser motor and cap on a unit that was placed into service 6/29/2012 on July 22/2017. After a storm blew through Sunday evening the evaporator fan blew up on start up. I called Carrier and it only has a 5 yr warranty, I was told sorry have a nice day. This is BS to have a unit 5 yrs old lose 2 motors. Not to mention the cost of the Xm evaporator motor is several hundred dollars.These new motors does not have cost savings the consumer is told they do. If a motor replacement is $400 @ 5yrs then you will never see a return on investment, energy savings. Total junk. I suggest people install a regular 1/2 hp motor with a fan relay at half the installation cost. Ive worked on hundreds of Carrier, Trane & York units from 1/2ton window units up to several thousand ton chillers. Ive even been to the Carrier training facility is Syracuse NY.As a Retired licensed stationary engr. we started noticing the lack of repairability in the 90s on all refrigeration and motor control units. Once the energy craze took off cooling units (all motors/controls etc) became electronic nightmares. The consumer is being fleeced as some contractors are charging 1000$ to replace a motor and capacitor, board whatever part they think might be bad because these units cant be properly diagnosed once a internal part goes bad. 5 yrs in and Im looking at just under a 1000$ in repairs for a 4000$ unit. All energy money savings is lost on repairs. I use to work on units that were 20-30 years old and were still operating with minimal repairs.

As of Oct. 4, 2019 this unit now needs additional new parts. The 2 ton unit also failed in Sept. 2019 and needs major parts replaced. My HVAC contractor is working with me and told me to contact Carrier customer service. Carrier customer service has informed me that their only responsibility is the warranty for parts. The $1000`s spent for labor is my problem. Bottom line is Carrier feels that if their unit lasts 1 year they have met their obligation. I know that everyone buys heating and AC units with the expectation that it will last more than 1 year. Carrier does NOT have that same expectation -- they hope it lasts a least a year so they are off the hook. Do Not buy Carrier products - unless you want to replace them quickly.

Even though the parts were covered under warranty (numerous failures have been reported with the LG compressor), Carrier refused to replace or even assist with labor cost. Imagine getting hit with a $2200 repair bill on an HVAC unit that was just over 1 year old. Terrible, terrible customer service.

The thermostat failed July 2013; replacement around $1100 (with maintenance plan discount). Gathered from technicians comments that problems with the Infinity device are not uncommon. For the cost of same, high quality should be expected. Perhaps unwise then for potentially purchasers to tie themselves into Carrier products that require such an expensive and fragile/poorly design controller.

As a manager for a mechanical contractor it is very hard to look my customers in the face and tell them that the new heat pump we just installed doesnt work. This has happened 3 times in less than 90 days. One was short compressor mounting bolts from the factory and the refrigerant line broke during shipment. Carrier said it was a warranty issue. I say a factory defect! They wanted me to fix and not provide a replacement. Took a lot of my time 15 plus hours but they finally replaced. Today new unit had a bad transformer and would only heat. When switched to cool compressor would only run for 15 seconds and would shut off on high limit. Brand new unit needs a reversing valve.Again Carrier wants me to repair and not provide a replacement unit. Carrier corporate is useless in solving my issues as a contractor. I feel for the all the homeowners. Trane is 60 yards away from CARRIER GREAT LAKES, my local carrier distributor. I walked over to Trane and will be paying more for heat pumps and will have to pass on the cost to my customers, but at least they answer the phone without attitude and have handled all of our other problems with a smile. MAKE SURE TO GET YOUR COMPLAINT IN BEFORE THEY COMPLETE THEIR MOVE TO MEXICO.

I contacted the installer who came to diagnose and repair. I was told there was a small Freon leak and my vent directions were set wrong and everything should be OK. 2016 - Again the A/C not cooling house. The original technician did not return my calls. I hired another company to diagnose/fix. They told me there was a Freon leak that caused damage to my unit and it needs to be replaced. I contacted Payne (a division of Carrier). Wow! A service tech responded with aggression/sarcasm. He kept saying Well why cant you tell me whats wrong the unit? I kept asking him to call the HVAC company to find out. He told me I had to hire yet another company at my cost and that Payne would not pay for this even though he had not talked to the first company. He agreed to talk to the first company. Days later, no response. The outside HVAC company told me they have tried to contact the agent several times. No response. I contacted customer relations at Payne. I was just informed my conversation is being recorded. This unit is still under warranty and now I have read reviews from this site, I am horrified! I have spent hours on the phone. It has been 90 degrees this week and I cant get anyone to help me.

Although the compressor was covered, my bill was $734. The $4070 Carrier unit did not even work for two years. I think since it was Carriers fault their unit was at fault that they should have been responsible for the bill since the compressor has a warranty for ten years and didnt even last for two years. They should have at least been responsible for the freon that the unit lost because of their inferior product. I will never buy another Carrier product!

Carrier Comfort 80 gas furnace blower motor & cage failure- The blower motor and blower squirrel cage have both recently failed on this 9-year-old unit. Preventive maintenance twice yearly has been consistently scheduled. Warranty was for 5 years for all parts except heat exchanger (10 years). Cost to replace both of these items was $960 less my 15% discount for being a preferred customer. VERY HIGH PRICES! The tech volunteered that Carriers prices on replacement parts is high. I found the same parts on other HVAC supplier websites for much less - I was initially not comfortable with handling the parts change out, but now seeing how it was done, could probably have done it myself & saved a bunch of $. I contacted Carrier, but got no response from them. Had asked for some $ warranty assistance since these parts failed prior to 10 years of service - my tech said that after 2010, Carrier increased their warranty to 10 years on other parts. This is the first time I have had any blower failures on a furnace earlier than 20 years of service. Apparently they just dont make em like they used to and Carrier doesnt really care about their residential consumer customers either. I wont be replacing any of this equipment (when the time comes) with Carrier!

A message came up and said its not a valid website (cac.bdp.com). So I called Carrier, their phone message said to go to Carrier.com/homecomfort to register the product, which I did. While the tech was here, I attempted to register the equipment but the website kept asking for the installer no matter what I entered. The technician recommended that I call Carrier back (he had to go to his next job). I called Carrier and was told they no longer accept product registrations over the phone. So when I told the woman I could log in to their website to register the product while she was on the phone, she said she wasnt allowed to hold for customers. She seemed pretty rude. The problem here is that the Carrier website wont allow me to register my product (tried three different browsers) and their customer service will not help me register. This comes across as a warranty scam. Make it difficult so that customers dont register the product then deny warranty claims.

She said no because they have “no technical support staff” in customer service.
