I bought a Carrier Infinity 3 ton AC unit five or six years ago. In that time, I have had literally thousands of system malfunction announcements on my thermostat. I have had the air-conditioner repair tech at my house at least 25 times. I replaced fan motors and starter capacitors twice and other parts. Recently it wont cool to the desired temperature. Now its come to my attention the condenser coil is turning to dust. I paid for what I believed to be the best air-conditioner on the market. And it has just been one constant disappointment. The AC tech came out and told me that I need to replace the coil and that it would cost $2500 but he recommended that I replace the entire unit. The cost of a new one is roughly the same as that. So its basically totaled. Carrier will do nothing for me. I expected so much more. I felt it reasonable to assume that this would last many years.
My 2 year-old Carrier Infinity Heat Pump stopped functioning. When my dealer came to investigate, he found that the evaporator on the heat coil of my Carrier furnace (also installed 2 years ago) had micro leaks. That alone cost me $420. To replace and the defective part and refill the heat-pump (they had to empty it for safety reasons), I would need to cough up $600. The part is guaranteed but labor not! So a defective part from Carrier is costing me over $1000 in labor to fix. I called Carrier and the only thing they can tell me is to pay the bill and send a copy to they review board to see what they can do. I could understand paying a big bill if my system exceeds 10-15 years, but just after 2 years? I need help here.
I purchased a Carrier HVAC System with 5 to 10 year extended warranty that is for parts & labor. While it is rare that I have had to call for service on the system, the few times I have, (including today) I am charged a service fee. This is the term used by the dealer so that I am paying for a service fee and they can say that I am not charged for the labor. I think it is misleading to buy parts and labor extended warranty and find the local dealer charges a service fee/call. Today, it was $112 to come out for less than 30 minutes. Granted it was on weekend after normal business hours, but the same has occurred during normal business hours.
Carrier Comfort 80 gas furnace blower motor & cage failure- The blower motor and blower squirrel cage have both recently failed on this 9-year-old unit. Preventive maintenance twice yearly has been consistently scheduled. Warranty was for 5 years for all parts except heat exchanger (10 years). Cost to replace both of these items was $960 less my 15% discount for being a preferred customer. VERY HIGH PRICES! The tech volunteered that Carriers prices on replacement parts is high. I found the same parts on other HVAC supplier websites for much less - I was initially not comfortable with handling the parts change out, but now seeing how it was done, could probably have done it myself & saved a bunch of $. I contacted Carrier, but got no response from them. Had asked for some $ warranty assistance since these parts failed prior to 10 years of service - my tech said that after 2010, Carrier increased their warranty to 10 years on other parts. This is the first time I have had any blower failures on a furnace earlier than 20 years of service. Apparently they just dont make em like they used to and Carrier doesnt really care about their residential consumer customers either. I wont be replacing any of this equipment (when the time comes) with Carrier!
Stay away from Carrier as they have really bad customer service. They dont keep replacement parts in stock locally and they are located in New York which is really far from Florida which is where I live. My unit needs a part replaced and they dont have it in stock either locally or in New York and they do not know when they will have it in stock. I live in Florida where you cannot be without air conditioner. Their 10 year warranty is non-existent as they will charge you for shipping the part and if you want to expedite it for next day they will charge you even more. Now how is it my fault that the part is not available locally. What kind of service are you giving your customers if you are selling a product that you do not have parts for.
Bryant furnace installed in 2007 by certified installer and looked great. A couple of months back I noticed the plenum was bent and distorted with the seams opened up. Have had three authorized service technicians tell me they have never seen this occur before but deny any furnace malfunction. Bryant customer relations directs me to contact the Better Business Bureau to complain...really? I have been told my concrete floor heaved, my floor joists dropped, or the installer caused the damage. Unit looked fine when installed but it has lifted about 4 inches and destroyed the plenum. Anyone else ever seen something like this?
Puron Model 24APA530A300 Coil bad - A/C stopped cooling on hottest day of year, and my a/c guy said it must be a bad coil. The unit was put in 6 years ago, and I figured Carrier would replace it. Just found out it has only a 5-year warranty, but starting in 2010 they made it a 10-year warranty. I think it is plain wrong that Carrier only has a 5-year warranty for a machine that costs upwards $6000. No way a coil should go out in 6 years.
I have several Carrier and Payne HVAC systems in several houses. I had 2 very simple technical questions regarding their thermostat. (Can the unit humidifier be set to greater than 45? and Where is the humidity sensor?) Called Customer Service looking for Tech Support line... no tech support line, they know nothing, suggested I call local Carrier dealers, i.e. local contractors. I did, they had no idea why Carrier would refer me to them. They dont offer tech support (as they shouldnt). I called back Carrier, went to Level 2 customer service... same BS, unbelievable... no more Carrier products.
After 5 years my Payne heat pump unit is almost completely rusted away. Even though there is a 10-year warranty rust is not covered by them. Payne customer service said they couldnt help me but I could call their parent company who owns Payne, Carrier, and Bryant. Of course United Technologies ignored all attempts to contact them and obviously it is the protocol for these hvac manufactures to have someone call the corporate office because they know there will be no response. Bad product. Bad customer service.
April 2008 installed high end Carrier dual (electrical/gas) system (furnace/heat pump/AC) system with Carrier Infinity Thermostat. The thermostat failed July 2013; replacement around $1100 (with maintenance plan discount). Gathered from technicians comments that problems with the Infinity device are not uncommon. For the cost of same, high quality should be expected. Perhaps unwise then for potentially purchasers to tie themselves into Carrier products that require such an expensive and fragile/poorly design controller.
I had three Carrier units (top of the line) installed for our new home. Every year since, we have had numerous problems and service calls. Now, it has become unbearable. Last Friday, our air conditioning went out. It is now Tuesday and there has been no resolution or help from Carriers online or phone center. We replaced the air handling unit ($900) two weeks ago. Now, the compressor is bad in our main unit. We called the company that installed the units and they showed up and found that it was the compressor. When they submitted the information on the warranty, they found that Carrier knows that the units are bad and has a program to replace the compressor with a different brand. So, the guys filled out all of the paperwork (Bristol Program Audit Form) and run the diagnostic tests to prove to Carrier that it is the compressor. There was a long list of serial numbers and models included in this list (I call a recall list). Upon returning the information to the Columbia, SC representative to get authorization for the part, they are told that since they are now not a certified Carrier service center, that they are unable to do the repairs. So we have had to start the process all over again. The service technician seems baffled since they let him do one less than two weeks ago, with the same faulty product.Additionally, the service company is not sure that the new $900 air handler with be compatible with the new compressor, if we ever get one. The temperature inside of our home is 84 degrees and it is supposed to reach 100 degrees by Friday. Since I have three of these units, I am concerned about the future of the units and the failure of Carrier to be proactive in replacing the compressors that they know have been faulty. Again, calling the 1-800- CARRIER number just led me to someone telling me that it is my home and my problem to handle and that the problems with the compressors are very limited. However, it must not be very limited to have a written protocol for the diagnosis of the problems and the units affected.
I purchased a Carrier Infinity furnace in 2008 thinking that this furnace would last as long as my previous Lennox. My previous furnace lasted 18 years without any problems. Carrier instructed me that I had a 5 year parts warranty and does not include labor. I have just learned that Carrier offers a 10 year warranty on parts after 2008 and refuses to cover any cost of my repair. I have verbally stated that Carrier products are designed to fail just before 5 years are up and I seriously recommend that under any condition do not purchase any of their products ever. Their customer service is absolutely horrible and they like to hang up on many occasions. I wish I had never brought this piece of garbage.
We purchased our air conditioner in 2007 and have had problems 4 out of 5 seasons. Living in Michigan, we basically have only run our air conditioner for a little over a year now. The 1st year, a bad sensor had to be replaced; 2nd year ran okay; 3rd year, it ran constantly and hardly cooled down our home. At the beginning of the 4th year, it ran out of freon and was recharged, and last year it ran out of freon again. The installer found a pinhole in the coil and it had to be replaced. Our installer/servicer was very helpful and worked with us to help keep labor costs down but, Carrier should stand behind their product and cover all labor for warranty parts. I shouldnt have to pay labor charges on factory defective parts. Its very frustrating to have purchased a top-of-the-line unit, only to feel like we ended up with a lemon and have little recourse but to accept Carriers less than satisfactory limited warranty. I get the feeling Carrier couldnt care less about the little guy, once a sale is made. At least the car manufacturers cover labor and parts for warranty work. We will have to wait until I can get a servicer out to find out whats wrong now.
The system has been very reliable with no problems. I installed a complete new Carrier system 6 yrs ago along with ductwork. My AC bill dropped by $50 dollars a month in the summertime with carrier. I also love the 10yr warranty that came with the system.
I built a new home which we moved into in 2014. The only equipment which has failed has been my Carrier gas furnace and outside a/c unit. I have had the coil in the furnace replaced, the blower motor replaced, a leak repaired on the outside unit and once again I am without air conditioning waiting on a service call which will take 3 days. My units carry a 5 year warranty (parts only, labor was for one year I believe) which could have been extended to 10 if my units were registered (for marketing purposes I was told) within 90 days of closing on my home. With the mountain of paperwork/moving/dealing with banks/contractor I missed this deadline. I cannot say they, I wasnt handled a piece of paper at some time telling me to do so. Even though I am still in the initial warranty period, and Carrier could obtain my data for marketing purposes, they will not extend my warranty for the additional 5 years.That being said this equipment should not have failed so many times in such a short period of time. I have had no issues with any of the other appliances in my home, only my Carrier equipment. They treat their warranty like rebate cards. They know most people wont register their equipment so they can get out of the additional years of warranty. I only found out about this from a different Carrier dealer who will now be servicing my equipment. Buy something else. The equipment I have is unreliable and thus far I have not been impressed with their service. I did not have a choice as my builder had the equipment installed, when it is replaced I will stay away from Carrier.
I bought a Carrier heating and cooling system back in 2010. Had a problem with the condenser freezing up when the weather got cold. Happened several times but was rectified. This year the heat went out. Had the same symptom. The company I bought the Carrier from was no longer in business so called another one that was a Carrier certified. They condemned the unit. Heat exchanger was burnt. These typically should last for 15 years. Only lasted eight and a half years. Getting Carrier will replace the part but the problem is the installation is very expensive. Its like buying an expensive car. All the parts are very expensive and they charge a fortune to install it. Dont be comforted by the warranty. Its worth very little.
Wow, horrible company. Bought a unit with a 10-year compressor warranty. Compressor developed a leak. They did nothing to repair/replace unit. Swore I would never buy another carrier. Bought a new house. Builder uses carrier. Less than a year the unit is rusting and corroding on the condensing housing and aluminum coil. Guess what carrier said, we will do nothing. Need I say more?
Our 9-year-old Carrier furnace was blowing cold air. The repair guy for Carrier said we need a NEW FURNACE! If he only replaces the part, there is no guarantee it will work (up to $2,000 for repair). It s December (here in New York) and we have waited SEVEN DAYS and no part in sight! We will NEVER buy another Carrier!
We purchased ours give or take 8 years ago. It was best deal in our price range and for size wise in comparison to the square footage of our home. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to purchase or replace their existing one.
My Carrier air conditioning unit is less than 12 years old. The compressor has failed and seized. I understand the industry average should be 15 to 20 years or more of life. I paid a premium for my Carrier unit when I bought it. I contacted Carrier and they said it was out of warranty and basically its my hard luck. Based on my experience if you want an air conditioner to last longer than 11 years 10 months, dont buy a Carrier unit. I live in Chicago. I wonder how long this unit would have lasted in Texas.
Freeze notices sent in email - servicemens visit confirmed bad fluid plugging A-coil. This is the 2nd service call on company recall for this area. Failures occur after first winter. Parts and tools on order. Wait and see about costs verses warranty. 362 days after new install of furnace and air conditioner.
I am a Mechanical Contractor in Detroit area. I have installed many Infinity Systems (We stopped selling them in 2012 because of all of the problems!). My own house I built in 2009 has three systems, has had 5 compressors replaced, 4 contractors, 3 controls and one complete condensing unit in 2015 which now does not work and my house is 81 degrees! INFINITY means as long as you have it you will have aggravation. It is junk. I live right on Long Lake Rd in Bloomfield Hills and on June 26th I will remove all Infinity equipment and replace with Trane. I will put all three furnaces and condensing units on the main road with a 12 foot banner which reads, This is the kind of junk to expect of Infinity equipment. Come by and check it out ** just east of Telegraph!!!
In 2003, I bought our house. The A/C works fine for a few years. Then after 5 years and 2 months, my A/C goes out. Carrier told me, ** you, your warranty is up. Can you believe this? Luckily, I was able to find that it was just a run capacitor, after shocking the **out of myself, as I am not a certified HVAC guy, but it was back up and running. Over the next few years, I noticed an extreme amount of rust water coming from the drain line. Now, the A/C is broke again, this time compressor is locked up. I spent $300 to have tech come out and tell me this. He also told me that Carrier has a ten year warranty on parts. Wrong again, I talked to a manager and they said 5 years. In 09, they went to ten after the new and improved coils and compressors. The funny thing is she told me that 5- 10 years is normal life expectancy. Are you kidding me? Im a flooring contractor and if I told that to my customers, I would never get any business. Needless to say, I have a 6.5 year old house with a HVAC system that is not working and Carrier reps believe this is okay. There needs to be a class action law suit against them.
Horrible gas furnace! Bought brand new in 2011 and every winter we have had problems. Now it’s shot! Big regret! Financial wrecked! This furnace was suppose to be top of the line. The heating elements went out and the burners! They will not work with you or budge! Minnesota winter is brutal and for this to go out on us every winter is horrible
I purchased my unit in 2007 and thru the company I bought it from, have a 15 yr parts and labor warranty. I have the Infinity thermostat and 3 ton unit heat pump and Infinity air handler. Ran okay for the first year or so but fast forward to today... Heres a rundown of the repairs on this unit. Ive had 7+ system malfunctions, many of them with multiple codes. The primary code is always 45. Ive had the air handler circuit board replaced 3 times - 3/2009 12/,2011, 9/2014 and a 4th one effective today due to the total shut down (8/2015) of entire system. Ive had the heat pump circuit board replaced also 9/2014, coils replaced 2/2014, and new wiring harness 10/2014. Ive been told that Carrier will eventually stop warranting the circuit boards.As everyone else, someone needs to be home when this service is done so taking time from work to be home for every repair can be very tough and expensive for someone whose company doesnt allow them or cant have them work from home. Im fortunate but in the long run Carrier should be doing something to recognize the problems their system has and make it right. My service company is great but eventually this will start to get very costly. Im done with Carrier and will be contacting the company I purchased it from regarding the lemon law. This just cant go on...
I purchased a new home in 2005. The Carrier AC unit was installed in 2004 when the home was completed. In the last 6 years, my AC has failed 8 times and my heater once. In 2006, my AC failed and I paid approximately $100 to replace freon. In 2007, I replaced freon again. In 2008, I replaced freon again and then they discovered my coil had a hole in it. In all, I spent over $500 in freon charges and labor that were not covered by the warranty in the first 4 years I owned the home. A year later, my compressor wont start and I had to fix that. Then my compressor went out a year later. Now my compressor wont start again. The HVAC people will only tell me it has age on it. It is 7 years old. I have spent over $1000 of my own money fixing it. In between the yearly (and in two cases twice yearly) breakdowns of the AC unit, my heater failed in 2009.
Carrier Comfort Series unit - Puron. We are extremely dissatisfied customers. $4,500 was spent on a brand new, energy efficient air conditioner. We were told from the sales man that this was the top of the line product and will save time and money. We had this new unit installed on Aug. 11, 2014 and when we went downstairs to check it on Sept. 6, 2014 because it wasnt dropping the temperature in the home sufficiently, we saw that there was water all surrounding the unit. In +30 degree weather we called the company to say we wanted it fixed and they couldnt send out a worker for a few days. When a worker came out he worked for 2 hours that night and 4 hours the next day, he spent this time cleaning up the mess that was left by the installers. He told us when he had done all that he was able to that the unit was defective and the company was aware of 20 other units that were defective this summer of the same model. Apparently the evaporator coil was faulty on it. Waiting for the sales man to call back. So far no call. Not happy.
After coming home from work on a hot, sunny, Friday afternoon, I noticed the inside of the house was MUCH hotter than what the thermostat was set for. After going outside and checking the heat pump, I noticed that the copper lines were frozen and the fan wasnt spinning. After calling the installation company, they said they wouldnt be able to be out there until Saturday afternoon (of course!). The repair technician came out Saturday around 3:00 pm and said that it was the motor and that Carrier knows these are bad motors, but they wont do anything about them until they break. They last roughly 2-2.5 years before they need replaced. I have already replaced at least 40 this year and thats just me.... I have three other partners!. Of course, he said that it wouldnt be able to be taken care of until Monday after he contacted Carrier. On Monday, he ordered the part and Tuesday around noon, he actually came and fixed it. If anyone knows what the weather is like in September in South Carolina, then you know that there were FOUR VERY UNCOMFORTABLE NIGHTS OF SLEEP (youre not getting much sleep when it is hot and humid... all a fan did was circulate the hot air). I wish that I had known about all these problems with Carrier before we built our house 2.5 years ago! I can assure you that from here on out, that for me, it will be hard to stop a Trane. I have asked two different technicians now, who they thought makes the best unit, and both unquestionably said Trane. Thanks to Carrier, I am now out $300 because of a known faulty motor (sorry to everyone else who has spent more money because I know that sounds like chump change, but I definitely would like spending that on something else). If any car manufacturer had known issues, they would put out a recall and fix the unit.... Why isnt Carrier doing the same? Unscrupulous is word that comes to mind...
As a manager for a mechanical contractor it is very hard to look my customers in the face and tell them that the new heat pump we just installed doesnt work. This has happened 3 times in less than 90 days. One was short compressor mounting bolts from the factory and the refrigerant line broke during shipment. Carrier said it was a warranty issue. I say a factory defect! They wanted me to fix and not provide a replacement. Took a lot of my time 15 plus hours but they finally replaced. Today new unit had a bad transformer and would only heat. When switched to cool compressor would only run for 15 seconds and would shut off on high limit. Brand new unit needs a reversing valve.Again Carrier wants me to repair and not provide a replacement unit. Carrier corporate is useless in solving my issues as a contractor. I feel for the all the homeowners. Trane is 60 yards away from CARRIER GREAT LAKES, my local carrier distributor. I walked over to Trane and will be paying more for heat pumps and will have to pass on the cost to my customers, but at least they answer the phone without attitude and have handled all of our other problems with a smile. MAKE SURE TO GET YOUR COMPLAINT IN BEFORE THEY COMPLETE THEIR MOVE TO MEXICO.

I built a home in 2011 with a Carrier 48ES heating/cooling unit. By 2017 the units heater exchanger tubes are completely rusted and the unit must be replaced for a price of over $6000! I find it interesting that Carriers warranty only covers the unit for 5 years.
I am not one to complain about anything but Carrier is off the charts bad as far as customer service and warranties. I will say that the actual customer service reps were polite and professional. I had zero issues with the way they treated me but the message was poor. I will try to keep this as short as possible. We purchased a 3.5 year old home last year. The previous owner almost never used the AC. He figured that they ran it maybe 3 weeks total in the 3 years they had the home. We purchased mid summer and ran it sparingly last year. This spring we had to have it charged and again 6 weeks later. Another month later it was out of refrigerant again. They came in with a sniffing tool and found a leak in the evaporator coil. We had $500 into service calls at this point. I was told that it was manufactured on Aug 19th, 2011. I called in Monday August 22nd, 2016 and was basically told that I was out of luck because the warranty ran out on Friday. The fact was that it was not installed until October 20th, 2011 but no one could produce the original receipt. The original owner, original builder, original HVAC installer and current HVAC company all offered to call in or write up letters detailing the issue but I was told an original receipt was my only option. I would not recommend or ever use Carrier again. The repair cost me $1400 to go along with $500 in service calls and time off work. Poor quality and VERY VERY poor customer service. I would have been happy if they would have just warrantied the unit. I completely understand that labor is not something anyone would cover.
In 2010 we had Carrier HVAC installed. Since then the motor in the heating unit has been replaced, under warranty. Our service technician told me that Carrier knew that it was faulty but would only replace the part when it failed. Now we have to have the AC coils replaced because they are leaking coolant. According to the service technician the copper tubing cannot keep up with the pressure so it needs to be replaced with aluminum. Unfortunately this part is past the 5 year warranty, by one year, and now we have to pay $1,070 to have it replaced. I would not recommend a Carrier HVAC system.
Got Carrier Infinity Greenspeed in November 2012. Got the 97.2% efficiency infinity modulating natural gas furnace and 4 ton 17 SEER air conditioning unit. I do love the low speed variable heating as it keeps a gentle constant heat. Cooling is also good and efficient. Both units, however, have been unreliable. In October 2014 the furnace broke. We needed a new inducer motor. They dont keep parts at Carrier, so it took several days to get the part. Cost me $400 for labor and other parts. In July 2015 air conditioning unit leaked and had to have coolant replaced. In May 2016, the unit would not start during routine twice a year maintenance service agreement we had with installer. There were multiple leaks and the entire outside unit and coil had to be replaced. The installer was great and didnt charge for labor since we had repeated problems with the unit. Carrier again did not have parts on hand, so had to wait a week on parts. Still cost me $600 in additional installer parts not covered by Carrier. So, on this supposed high end system, both the furnace and air conditioner have had major failures in under 3 years of use and these have cost me over $1000 out of pocket. Obviously, my conclusion is that Carrier Infinity Greenspeed is a piece of junk.
I am satisfied. I hoped for a little more efficiency, since I was replacing a 40 year old unit. It does provide very steady heat and have had no issues so far.
11/3/10: Burgors Always Dependable, (Pul drain not while); customer said that unit will run then furnace will go off. But not go on. Cleaned fuse off. Cycle unit a few times. Drain cleaned too, unit is running fine, filter ok too. Paid $100.00.11/15/10: Burgors Always Dependable, was here 4-6 times in the last two weeks do to furnace; will run fine for about 8-10 hours then furnace will go off and customer will reset switch on furnace. Service man did check; sensor cleaned, burner box check, salt test check passes at this time. Replace start, drain box cleaned and check to ok replace switch at limit box burner and will check heat exchange too. (Cycle Ok too!) Crack in heat exchanger not safe to run unit replace limit in burner box. Service man not know about 3 times. Customer was resetting furnace switch. Paid $150.00.Somewhere in here, Burgors tried to get me to give him $800 for the new heat exchange, I found out it is under warranty from Carrier and didnt go through him b/c Mechanical Heating and Cooling said I wouldnt have to pay the 800 b/c carrier will reimburse them.11/18/10: Mechanical Heating & Cooling, no heat replaced heat exchanger, also bad igniter system tested and running fine at this time; heat exchange under warranty. Paid $319.00. This is the bill I dispute b/c they charged me $111 for a rush fee without any knowledge of it being a rush fee or option to have it on a rush bases.11/19/11: Mechanical Heating & Cooling, No heat; furnace running upon arrival, let complete cycle, checked past fault codes 12 blower on after power up ran through several cycles running OK at this time, also flushed trap. Check incoming power connections, all Ok. Paid (n/c considering they were just there the night before).11/26/11: Mechanical Heating & Cooling, found furnace tripped on high temp limit, reset checked coil very dirty customer cleaned checked capacitor ok ,temp rise ok 46; cut hole in return in basement, cycled unit running ok at this time. Paid $89.00.After all this, Mechanical Heating & Cooling are now telling me that the venting system must not be the right size; seems to me that if this were true then why did my system run for approximately 6 yrs with no problems. Problems just now occurring; I spoke to _______ from Carrier and he stated that this is not uncommon; Well then if that is true, then why was the Venting for the system not properly installed? Wouldnt it still be Carriers fault since they installed it?
I have a Carrier-Payne A/C heat pump that was installed in a new construction in late 2005 or early 2006. I do not know the specific model number. Up until about 2 years ago, the unit ran problem-free. Since that time, I have had nothing but problems. The unit will quit heating/cooling without warning. The outside fan (not sure what its called) does not come on when the unit comes on and the compressor kicks out to prevent overheating. I can turn the unit off for a few hours and when I turn it back on, it runs fine for hours, days or weeks. It’s totally unpredictable. A technician will come out tomorrow for at least the 6th time. He has replaced a variety of electronic modules, the outside fan twice and added freon once, even though it was not critically low. He is at a loss on what to do next to try and fix it. Neither he nor I have called Carrier and after reading these posts, it would probably be a waste of time. I am paranoid about this unit and had to have someone house sit while I was on vacation just to keep a check on the A/C. Based on all of the compressor problems Ive read about, Im thinking that is the next thing to go out. I cant think of a compelling reason to replace this Carrier with another one.
My inducer has bad bearings, sounds like a 747 in my home when the furnace fires up. In addition, the evaporator is completely rusted. I have a seven year old system, and the builder did not register the system at install. I contacted Carrier and they basically told me to go fly a kite, even though they say they would have warranted their product had it been registered. The outside compressor is badly weathered, paint is peeling, rusted. The install guy said that although it has a Carrier brand on the outside, they took another system and merely added the Carrier logo to it. So after seven years Im looking at a replacement of the system. Guess what, it wont be a Carrier.
We purchased ours give or take 8 years ago. It was best deal in our price range and for size wise in comparison to the square footage of our home. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to purchase or replace their existing one.
My 4-ton 14-seer Sentry compressor exploded & blew the terminal cap off damaging the wire harness. We closed on the home just over 1 year earlier (new construction from Savvy Homes). Even though the parts were covered under warranty (numerous failures have been reported with the LG compressor), Carrier refused to replace or even assist with labor cost. Imagine getting hit with a $2200 repair bill on an HVAC unit that was just over 1 year old. Terrible, terrible customer service.
Had a new Carrier furnace and A/C installed in August 2013. It totally worked fine until last summer. After several visits by several technicians they replaced a low pressure switch and a coil in the inside unit. Last occurred last fall. I turn the unit on the spring and no A/C. Called the company that installed it since it is still under the 5 year labor 10 year parts warranty. It required 2 lbs of Puron. They never checked for a leak but recommended I have a nitrogen test that would cost me $800.00. I asked why I have to pay for a leak test under warranty. The tech told me that it is not covered under warranty. So they will continue to put Freon in until it goes out of warranty in August then it is all on me. A wasted 9k. Never ever buy or recommend Carrier products to anyone.

RUN AWAY! I always trusted in the brand, however, when I needed help from Carrier, they dont want to deal with their certified providers. I purchased an Air Handler and a Condenser from two providers listed on the Carrier website to solving my cooling problem. The issue was not solved, and now they want to sell me another HVAC system more powerful. They will not give me any discount for the product that I just bought and have less than 2 months of usage. Honestly, it is a joke, they want to sell more and more equipment without caring about customer satisfaction. Very disappointed with Carrier.
In mid-2007, I had my 13-year old HVAC system replaced with a Carrier Infinity system with 5 ton 14.0 SEER unit (model #24ANA760A003) to give a peace of mind regarding reliability. Two years ago, the system failed and the temp in my house got to over 100 degrees here in AZ. The installation company told me the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced at a cost of over $800. This with the unit still under warranty! Now almost exactly two years later, the compressor again went out and needs to be replaced. The owner of the installation company told me that Carrier acknowledges that this is a faulty unit (as evidenced by the multiple other complaints here), but refuses to replace it with anything other than another unit of the very same defective model. And of course, I have to pay all the labor charges again. Carrier seems truly unconcerned regarding customer service and only wants to take your money and run. Perhaps, as a previous writer suggested, a class action lawsuit is in order.
In 2002, I invested $6,000.00 to have Carriers top-of-the-line heat pump installed at my home. A very large investment for me! I thought it will be well worth it to have the highest quality, 2-stage, rated with energy star and uses Puron. Turns out this unit is quite the lemon. By the looks of all the other complaints I now see concerning the same system, I guess theyre nearly all lemons. Wish someone could make Carrier do the right thing and provide what they advertised. And are still advertising. I had this unit installed by a reputable heating and air company. From the beginning it never did work all that well. It did cool however so I did not complain. It only seemed to work about half as good as advertised. On real hot days, it would not keep up with demand and cool that well. If in the 90s outside, the best it would cool was to about 76-78 inside. Cool enough to live so I didnt complain. In 2006, it stopped cooling altogether, so I called what many believe to be one of the most reputable heating and air company around to troubleshoot it. They said the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced. This was under warranty but I would have to pay the labor. Labor to install the new compressor was $1,200.00. I had a couple other companies also price the labor and all were about the same. It killed me to pay $1,200.00 labor to install a compressor that is under warranty. I considered alternatives such as maybe just install a new unit, but a new unit would cost more than twice that amount installed. I figured this is one of the most reputable heating and air companies around so I told them to go ahead and change the compressor and paid them $1,200.00. It was cooling my home again but still only cooling about half what it should, same as before. In the winter, the electric back-up strips were on most of the time, even when outside was in the 40s. I put up, told the installer about this and they added Puron a couple of times at quite some expense. They told me I should have had them install the unit originally. Then they would stand behind it better. In summer 2008, there were many days in the 90s and the unit would only cool to about 79-80 inside. I had them check the unit again. They said the unit was leaking Puron from the charging valve and that this had nothing to do with them installing the new compressor in 2006. They gave me a price of $1,300.00 to replace the leaking charging valve. It was extremely hot outside (upper 90s) during this time, so I paid them the $1,300.00 to replace it. After that, it did cool our house down to mid to upper 70s. Still not cooling so great but good enough. Winter time came and back to having the back-up heating kicking in when outside in the 40s and later even when in the 50s. The next summer, back to not cooling so well but could live, so did not complain. Winter came again and using back up heat. When the next summer came, it was in the 90s outside and could only cool to the 80s inside. I had to have Puron added again buy the same reputable company? They would not cut me any break on the cost of the Puron. They said if they were the original installer in 2002 then they would take care of me a little better. After they added Puron this time they said to just call someone else if I had any more trouble with it. Now here it is summer of 2014 and not cooling at all. I had a different company look at it and they told me they believe the compressor is bad and recommended I call the same company that installed the compressor when it was under warranty. He said he have never worked on one of these very high efficiency units. I did call the Carrier Corporation a few times since the original install in 2002 and I was told that there was nothing that Carrier would do to help. We have Carriers very best unit on the market and we are sweating in our home and just hoping it will be cool at night so we can sleep. Not sure what to do now. I guess I will have to have another reputable company come out and install another unit or something. The new compressor was install in August 2008, not quite 6 years ago. I dont know if it will be under warranty or not. The original compressor had a 10-year warranty. Does that mean this second compressor will have a 10-year warranty? Wish Carrier would do the right thing and provide me with a new unit that worked as advertised. Any suggestions?
We have a top of the line Carrier Infinity heat pump put in place in 2014. It was installed by an authorized installer who has been installing Carrier systems for 45 years. The unit is supposed to be state of the art and cost over $10K. But in 2015, one year after it was put in place, the system broke down in the summer and a motor had to be replaced. Now in 2016, second year after the installation, the system broke down again and another motor has to be replaced. And it takes more than 10 days to order the motor in todays world when everything you order from Amazon can arrive in 2 days.When I called Carrier to file a complaint, the lady I spoke with was supposed to be a senior level rep, and she was even more disappointing. Please note, I wasnt even asking them for anything. My repairs are covered by a service policy I already had. I just wanted to let them know my frustration as a consumer, and I think given the good reputation I have heard about Carrier, you would think how their customers are feeling about their quality and service. Well, this lady blamed everything on distributors and installers, and said Carrier provides 10 year parts warranty and thats all they can do. She basically said Why are you wasting my time by calling me. without using those words.Well, for a state of the art system such as Carrier Infinity, you probably wouldnt expect to shut down for 2 weeks every year in the hottest days of the summer. And you would probably expect Carrier to care more about the quality and service experienced by their highest paying customers. I need to replace another old HVAC system soon and I never thought I would get anything other than Carrier. Now I will look into what other competing products are out there.
I am an HVAC contractor who purchased Carrier equipment because the blueprint on the job called out for Carrier. After purchasing the equipment and installing according to manufacturing specifications, we noticed we had a faulty motor in the new unit. I contacted the distributor and they informed me that not only did they not have the motor in stock, they would have to order a new one and we would have to pay for it again... YES PAY FOR IT AGAIN. I am still waiting to be reimbursed for this motor I paid for twice, not to mention all the time we lost. This was one of the worst things I have ever experienced with any HVAC distribution company. We install all different types of HVAC equipment based on blueprints. Never one time has this ever happened. 30 years in this business and this is by far the worst.
$12,000 for a 3-ton unit installed in 2013. Within the first year the first unit had so many failures with AC that the dealer/installer had to actually remove and replace the whole outside unit. This was after 5 service visits over the summer. They replaced the compressor twice and several other parts (too many to remember). So, with a brand new heat pump you would think all would be good now. Wrong.Winter of 2015 and the system is running on heat-strip backup about 70% of the time. It is a MILD winter here also. I got my electric bill and the kilowatt usage for January had TRIPLED!! $$$. Dealer came out. Did something and said nothing is wrong. Next month I watched the thermostat as it stated the backup strips were running constantly AGAIN. The air-handler would blow cold air even when outside temps were in the mid 30s. When the pump couldnt meet the thermostat demand, on comes the electric strips... up goes my electric bill! I turned off the heat strips to tell the system to use heat pump only, but the only thing I get now is a constantly running air-handler and a VERY cold house. Buyer beware of Carriers low-quality product and marketing HYPE. This is NOT your fathers Carrier of yesterday.
I too bought a Carrier 3.5 ton split system a/c for my home in May of 2008. During the first year the installer would fix all the minor problems as they popped up, no out of pocket expenses. The 2nd year it started getting expensive. Refrigerant leaks, fan motors quitting, coils leaking and needing to be replaced, drip pan cracking and leaking, pounds of Puron added, startup capacitor replaced three times, and today 2.5 pounds of Puron. The only thing that hasnt quit yet is the compressor. I have spent a great sum of money from the yearly fix up. Carrier is undependable and expensive. My buddy had similar problems with his carrier. He installed his in 2007. After the 4th year of breaking down, he called a Trane dealer and had a unit installed. Up till now never a repair. He said for me to save my money and switch to TRANE.
I installed the condenser and A-coil myself since I am licensed to do this and the unit works great. I wish I would of done it right after purchasing the house instead of waiting 4 months. The summer was extremely hot and in a 65-year-old house with leaky windows and doors, my electric bill was never over $275. I was actually expecting higher. Since then I have had a new furnace put in and love it, keeps the downstairs and upstairs plenty warm without breaking the wallet on the gas bill. 4 ton 15seer condenser, 5 ton A-coil with TXV, adn 125,000 btu 95% furnace.
On our new house, the heating system is Carrier. Five years and three months now, it is out of warranty and the coil leaks have evaporated. Carrier refused to replace the part which, I think, is the quality problem. In Trane system, I had an AC which lasted for 24 years and is still going strong and did not lose freon. They just make junk parts. Two years after, the startup condenser fan will not start and they had to add a start-up kit to get the fan going again and patch up design. I will never buy or recommend any Carrier product to anyone I know. Just stay away from the product that they make.
We recently installed a Carrier split type inverter gold series air conditioner and we did not regret anything about it. Yes, it cost us more than buying a regular window type air conditioner but because this Carrier split type has the inverter technology, it is more energy efficient therefore lower electric bills for us. It also cools the room faster and it is very quiet. You dont even know its already on because it doesnt create one sound. It also comes with a remote control that is very easy to use. And true enough, weve noticed that our electric bills have become lower the past few months that weve started using this Carrier split type air conditioner.
Our unit is now 12 years old, the amount of repairs we have done to the unit, we could have replaced it with a quality Trane system three time over. A year into the system, our air handler developed a small leak losing Freon, under warranty, but labor with Custom Air of Florida cost over $700. Variable speed motor was replace three times costing us over $3000. Replaced capacitors every year at $200 a pop. Twice we had to have a leak fixed in the compressor coil, $1000 each time. Carrier is crap. Called them, told too bad in less words. We have a new Trane system going in this Tuesday with a heat pump, all labor and materials covered under warranty for 6K. Screw Carrier, go to Mexico, dont buy their junk.
Purchased a home Aug 2014 that was built in 2003. We have a total of 3 HVAC units. 1 Carrier upstairs and downstairs, both manufactured 2011 and 1 Goodman original to the house. The Carrier unit upstairs has a leaking coil inside. Estimate $1500 to replace. 6 years for a coil to go bad is terrible. I have read that Canada has a countrywide class action against Carrier for this very reason. Why not in the U.S.?
When the President moved to save Carrier jobs, I initially was pleased, as Carrier was the HVAC that came with our home. That system worked fine for 22-plus years and was not new when we moved in. Last year we finally had to replace it and went with Carrier based on past performance. What a HUGE MISTAKE! Its had one heating repair and now we are in the process of a second cooling repair and its brand new. Since the install, our energy bills consistently have been higher than most of our neighbors. When the heat kicks on, it sounds as if a dragon lives in our basement, making the former home office down there unusable. Apparently the old systems had some sort of inner shield that reduced such noise. Why would Carrier have removed this?? The tech says the culprit for our cooling woes is an expansion valve which tends to stick. Apparently many consumers have this problem with the new Carrier units. The lines were flushed a few weeks ago to try and correct this valve issue. Here it is, just a few weeks later, and the SAME PROBLEM occurs. While waiting for the repair tech, weve suffered in a hot house and have water from frozen and leaking pipes damaging the newly-painted basement floor. Carrier apparently does not like to send replacement parts until the techs jump through many hoops. I thought Id researched brands, but I guess I was basing my decision on Carriers old reputation. Now we are stuck with an expensive new system that is faulty. It does not cool or heat our home as well as the old Carrier system, and now Im told by several techs that we should have gone with a Goodman. This is unacceptable. Carrier needs to fix its issues and replace those defective parts at no cost to the consumer and stop using delay tactics to get parts that work to the techs in a timely manner. Better yet -- build the system correctly the first time!
Purchased new Carrier Infinity series (Infinity Heat pump, Infinity air handler, Infinity Air purifier, Infinity control Thermostat, UV bulbs) through Sears in 2006. After the Carrier five year warranty expired: 1) Infinity Thermostat LCD failed $700; 2) Air purifier electrostatic element failed $800; 3) Circuit board on heat pump failed $700. Ok, the last one was due to a gecko crawling into the unit in cold weather and short circuiting the board. But then again, why did Carrier make such an open-to-the elements panel on the outside unit for sensitive electronics that would allow critters to crawl in? Dont forget the costs of the air purifier filter element - $100+ yearly (But you get a year’s service out of it still 8x more expensive than a regular Filtrete on sale at a big box store) and UV bulbs that Carrier says should be replaced yearly ($150 plus per bulb - 2 required).But the biggest shock: Last fall I wanted to clean the heat pump units outside coil and discovered that the aluminum fins on the Puron (Freon) coils have pretty much oxidized and are deteriorating (crumbling to dust) ON AN 8 YEAR OLD UNIT! Now I read that Carrier makes a Coastal heat pump that is more corrosion-resistant from salt air. Wonder why? I am ticked at having paid $10k new system + $2200 to-date in repair costs to Carrier to be an unpaid beta tester for their new technology. And the beta tester gift just keeps on taking. To Infinity and beyond are my estimated future repair costs on this system.
I purchased a new home and the day I moved in, the unit was not working. I have a 1 year warranty. The licensed contractor comes out often to either tell me the unit is frozen, needs to be charged or coil needs replacing because of an expansion valve has malfunctioned. Even when a/c unit is supposedly fixed, it does not cool the home properly. It takes at least 4-5 hours to drop 2 degrees. The a/c unit runs constantly and is very inefficient. HVAC unit is a 13 Seer, 2 1/2 ton unit and Im in a 2 story, 2,100+ square foot home. I have been in my home less than 3 months, and the 3rd coil is getting ready to be replaced. This is the 10th service call. This is the first Carrier HVAC unit Ive ever owned and will be the last one.
In 2006, two Carrier Infinity heat pump systems were installed in my house to the tune of $25,000. Since 2010 I have not gone a single year without having a significant repair bill for at least one of the units. From 2010 through 2017 my repair bills for the units have exceeded $10,000. The compressor has gone out twice in one system and the other unit was totally replaced under a service bulletin (still cost me $1284.00 even though they admitted it was crap). Ten months after warranty period ended the compressor went out again. They say nothing we can do. BEWARE!!! Stay away from Carrier, unless youve just got money to throw away.
I replaced 4 or 5 of my a/c units in my home in Playa Del Carmen with Carrier because I thought I was getting a superior product. I was totally wrong. These units have lasted less time than my cheaper Chinese units at half the cost. One unit has had a control board failure twice in one year and the unit is less than a year and a half old! And of course the Carrier dealer in Cancun warranties nothing. So, needless to say, I am never buying Carrier again.
So, we had a new home built and our contractor highly recommended a Carrier HVAC system, and we bit. Four years later, a coil is leaking. We pay to add extra coolant as well as dye to verify leak. Upon verification, we had to have the coil replaced. Okay, part fail, and the company replaced the part. But, we were charged for the labor to replace it! WTH? Its a defective part. Why should we bear the burden for replacement?!? I wrote to Carrier (Bryant) and got a terse response regarding their limited warranty. No, not good enough!! I wrote back and let them know my feelings as well as my plan to share my experience with as many other who would listen.I have read so many accounts of similar experiences with Carrier: they replace the part that failed but do not reimburse the labor (which is often more than the part!). This is NOT acceptable and we need to mobilize to make manufacturers like this more responsive to consumers. Continue to share your stories and write to Bryant. We also need to contact our elected officials to develop legislation that will better protect us. Good luck to all!

I just opened this website and noted that most of the Carrier reviews were terrible. This is a more advanced system than most HVAC repair companies have knowledge of or experience with. We had a bad experience a couple of summers ago (the a/c was not cooling) and it all came down to the one question I failed to ask the 2 repair companies that were sent to our home by our home warranty company: Does your company INSTALL Carrier systems? Well, (after the 2 companies had spent countless hours and replaced the evaporator coil--which did not make the problem go away), that one little question did the trick! The warranty found one company that actually had installed these systems and they came out and after an hour of hooking up the compressor to the techs computer and consulting with the engineers in Houston, the problem was identified. They replaced the compressor and that was that. We love it. The comfort it brings to our home and the money it saves with the highest efficiency system... We only wish we would have gotten a zoned system. I would recommend Carrier---but you have to get the right people to be your service technicians, preferably the company that installed it...and just take really good care of the system--do all your check-ups regularly. It is not inexpensive to purchase, so why would you just hire anyone to service it?
The major manufacturers of HVAC equipment all buy the same parts. None is better quality than another. Carrier is ahead technologically, however.
I just recently had a complete HVAC system installed a few months back. We had our first Trane HVAC system for almost 20 years. We couldn't be more happy with this system. We would recommend Trane to everyone because of their quality and longevity!
When my Trane heat pump finally expired after more than 20 years, I made the mistake of hiring a company, Bryant Heating and Cooling, which installs Carrier units. Within a year, the defrost board went out. After a few more years the compressor broke, Carrier replaced it under warranty, but Bryant wanted $1500 labor (about 2 hours work) to install it, but finally reduced the cost to $750. After installing the compressor, a valve in the heat exchange unit in the garage was found to be defective. A year later, the unit lost pressure, which was traced to a leaking canister next to the compressor (Im not sure what its called). The technician convinced Carrier to supply the part, but labor again was going to be $1500, but was reduced to $325. DONT EVER BUY A CARRIER! If I have any more problems, Im going to bite the bullet and replace this piece of crap which I can never depend on.
This unit was purchased 2/10/2015, 5 years parts warranty, Model 48ES-A2406030TP. This unit was problem child soon after install, kicking into lockout mode, igniter failing to light, AC part did fine was furnace part constant trouble, numerous service calls, exhaust inducer fail, high temp sensor fails. I quit using installer because failed again in less than 10 minutes after driving out the driveway, got ahold of another service company, they found high temp sensor bad kicking off furnace before satisfying thermostat, got that repaired, next thing started periodic igniter fail or repeated attempt to light kick into lock out mode again. This would not fail when service man present, told me to wait till completely fail, find problem them, month later total fail.The service company owner came out this time, found no electricity, the junction block for wiring some screws loose likely from defective assembly, yup assembled in Mexico, Once that got locked down, ignited immediately, inducer motor quieter, blower quieter, was lacking enough electric all along. Runs like should. Point is I am out hundreds of dollars on a unit under warranty, I have contacted United Technology to see if they will reimburse for defective assembly, that is not excluded under their warranty. Submitted claim today, will see what they do about this, I will follow up with the outcome of this when I hear from them, I had previous Carrier lasted 20 plus years, cracked exchanger at 20 was still running, Why I bought another, this one with new controls been a nightmare, the faulty assembly my opinion caused all the trouble all along.
I had a Comfort 14, 50HZC installed this past week. It replaced a 26+ year old Gettle Heat Pump. Now this new heat pump is way cooler and more efficient for sure, but way louder than my old Gettle. The only con and the reason for the 3 stars is for the high noise DB this new heat pump puts out, a very low rumble hum and you can hear everywhere in the house. You cannot hear it outside, cannot even hear it while standing next to it on the roof, but its there. Must be a vibration going through the unit, through the metal frame, through the roof. Now I am extremely happy the way the New Carrier Heat pump works, but I hate the low high DB rumble sound. The HVAC Guy from Qual Tech claims its the compressor. Well if it was, I should have heard it 12 inches from it on the roof, nope no loud sound at all on the roof, matter of fact its quieter standing 12 inches from it on the roof than it is inside the house. If the rumble was lower or less DBs or just quiet I would give the Heat pump a 5, but cant when a 26+ year old Gettle makes less noise and vibration that a supposedly state of the art New heat pump.
Iceman only diagnoses AC problems that are not covered under warranty and then attempts to charge enormous fees to get problem fixed. AC unit is less than 10 years old and per Iceman I have had 4 leaks, needed 3 evaporator coils and possible condenser coils all of which is not covered under the warranty. Carrier says nothing they can do, I have the contract with Iceman and have to use them. If I want to try to find another Carrier Dealer to honor my extended warranty I can try. No AC unit should need an evaporator coil every 2 years and continue to leak for 8 years straight. I need a new thermostat and cant get one because Iceman cant diagnose the correct problem because the thermostat is under warranty and I can only get a new thermostat from a Carrier Dealer and Iceman wont get me one.
I was a previous owner of a Carrier Gas Pack HVAC unit when in 2009 we decided to remodel our home. Since the HVAC system was 13 years old we decided to upgrade (??) to the Carrier Infinity Gas Pack. This system has been a nightmare. The 10 year warranty ran out because the registration did not get completed when in 90 days of purchase so that became 5 years. The original purchase of the unit was $6200.00 and since 2009 I have incurred over $4000.00 in parts and labor for circuit board, burners, induction motors and refrigerant. I now am told that I need another circuit board $1100.00 which is not under warranty and the unit is 9 years old. I am sorry that this company has a poor CSI but I will not purchase any more of their equipment. Unfortunately I really like the company that I use to service this piece of junk.
Two-year-old system does not remove humidity from our home despite four service calls and a compressor replacement. The condensing unit never drains water and the Carrier dealer who installed the unit says all is okay/normal. As a result the humidity level in the house is always high, sometimes more than it is inside. Only two adults live in the home and the bathrooms/laundry room are well vented/exhausted. Does not appear from what I read that Carrier cares. Can the problem be linked to the refrigerant no longer being Freon? I have placed a portable dehumidifer upstairs which helps some and removes several quarts of water daily. We live in high humidity Indiana. Suggestions?
Bought new gas furnace and it doesnt work, keeps shutting off. Installer thinks its a bad heat exchanger. Have called Carrier 5 times and this has been 5 months and no heat. A waste of $2000. I have never been treated so bad in my life. My tenant below threatened to move out. I am ready to sue Carrier for their lack of care and not standing up to their word. I am going to have to contact the attorney general I guess. I dont recommend Carrier.
We got a new HVAC system in 2009, 11 years ago. It was Carriers top of the line furnace and central air conditioner at the time. It was the Infinity System. Quite expensive to say the least. Well, fast forward 11 years (to 2020). The Carrier central air conditioners condenser apparently went out. The company who installed it (In 2009) came out to diagnose a grinding sound I heard coming from the unit. Guess what?! Yep, you guessed it! My entire central air conditioner would need replaced due to the condenser failing!I know a couple family members whove had their central air conditioners for over 30 years, and theyre still in working order. If this new efficient HVAC equipment cant hold up for at least 20 years, doesnt that outweigh any efficiency improvements you got out of them?! In my opinion, not only are you out of an expensive unit, but for environmental purposes- it would be better to have a less efficient system last 30 years than a more efficient system last 10! Why? Because the materials to make it end up in a landfill 3 times sooner than the old style air conditioners!If I had known this Carrier AC would have only lasted 11 years, I would have went with a less expensive brand! Whats the point paying nearly twice as much, potentially, only to have your unit completely fail 10-11 years later! PS: I recently went out and bought a new window AC. I couldnt afford to spring for a new central AC, nor had any desire after that experience!
Building our home in 2012, we selected a Carrier heat pump because of its efficiency and alleged reliability. Little more than 2 years later, were now suffering through almost $400 labor costs to repair our relatively young Carrier heat pump because the outdoor fan bearings failed and the fan motor must be replaced. When I asked Carrier for credit against these $400 labor costs, Nicole stated shes bound by the manufacturers warranty so she cannot pay for labor on a part that admittedly failed way too soon. Careful of putting too much trust in the Carrier reliability. Theyre not willing to do whats right for the customer.
I built a new home within early 2012 in South Carolina and installed three 2 ton Carrier heat pump systems and one 3 ton system. (4 systems in all) In 2015 the first copper coil developed a leak due to formicary corrosion (supposedly a reaction with my foam insulation) and the other 3 all followed by mid 2017 and were replaced by aluminum coils. (Warranty) Supposedly the aluminum would not react with the foam insulation. However, an aluminum coil installed in 2016 has now failed/leaked due to the same issue. The aluminum coils are only warranted for one year so now I am faced with replacing the whole air handler in order to get a 10 year warranty since replacing the coil costs almost the same amount with only a one year warranty. I understand the same issue is rampant in the industry so I do not understand how any company can survive by providing a product they know is destined for early failure. I have heard that tin plating solves the issue but I also heard that aluminum solved the issue. Obviously, I am disgusted with Carrier but do not know how to force them to upfront with the issue and take care of their customers.
My Carrier Infinity Air Conditioner unit cost roughly $9,500 to install and was put in four years ago. My A/C stopped working because the condensing coil was leaking from the riser. This caused it to run under charged and blew the compressor. Now I need a new compressor, a new coil, a new capacitor, a new wire harness for the compressor and a new filter dryer - essentially building a new A/C unit. Carrier will cover the parts but the labor will cost $1,455 and they will not cover that cost. IF the tech agrees its a quality control issue they will see what they can do. Obviously by the number of complaints about Carriers coils, this IS a quality issue.
I bought a Carrier Mini Split Air Conditioner Model:40MHHC12 in 2018. After 1 season of use, it stopped producing cold air. A major component had failed (condenser coil)! The installer (ARS in Florida) refused to help, saying the unit must be maintenanced twice a year to stay under warranty for labor (brand new!). Carrier declined to comment about their unit failing after 1 year, or consider replacing the unit. The parts were under warranty, but the labor would cost almost $1000.00. Carrier said they would send a representative out to the installer company to review the issue, but after a month of me trying to find out the status of the issue, they finally just told me that there was nothing they would do. I would not recommend this company for air conditioners. High priced products with lousy quality.
I had a Carrier heat pump and air handler installed in 2017 (Comfort 25HCE418.1.5 ton... w/SEER 14.5; Carrier Performance fan coil w/variable speed DC blower). I had all the scheduled maintenance and now the evaporator coil leaked and I am being told it will cost $1425 to fix just for labor! What good is having a new system if it costs this much to fix? I was told by the tech that they had to replace these evaporator coils after one year! Even with the parts covered the labor is cost prohibitive. If these systems cannot be maintained even with regular maintenance, which was also expensive, then they must be defective! My heating and cooling bills were also huge and the thermostat had constant problems - going out, or not registering the correct temperature. You would think these companies would be concerned about their reputations. You would think that the certified dealers would also be concerned about the quality of these products. You would think there was some integrity in this business.
So here it is in a nutshell: Of all of carriers new products the new ala or aluminum evaporator coil already leaking after only 2 yrs. The new high effiency furnace has pressure problems that carrier cannot figure out a repair for and the new lg compressors are failing right out of the box. This is after the highest cost unit they ever carried, the infinity, lost every Bristol compressor they had in them. What is going on with carrier? Why would they run a good company into the ground? I have no choice but to start selling trane. Carrier gets worse every year.
The worst product ever used. Something on the furnace broke and it shredded items in house, endangering human life. The absolute worst furnace ever used. The furnace shredded and burnt stuff in the house. Poor quality product. It happened about 3 years of using it, and then something on the furnace broke, leaking water everywhere. This is a Carrier furnace that uses a boiler. After fixing the water leakage. It started to shred items in the house, causing excruciating pains and sufferings. Please everyone with similar problems with Carrier furnace, should start a class action lawsuit.
After a routine check of our vacation home HVAC systems, we were told we should consider replacing the aged units, although they still worked. We decided to spend the $17,000 for two units and set up an install time when we would be there. Install: Day 1 (a Friday): Were told we couldnt use our Nest thermostats. Installers opened crates to find one of the outdoor units had a large dent, but told us the panel would be ordered, and that no internal damage was done.Installers were there until 10:30pm, and said that it wasnt working correctly. They said they would come back Monday.Install: Day 4 (Monday): Installer tried again but couldnt get things going. Said he spent 2 hours on phone with Carrier support. He said part needed and hed return next day. That night we found water dripping in our closet due to drain pan under attic air handler overflowing. Drain pipe not working and float cutoff switch not working. Called night number and were told it would be 10pm, so we said come first thing in the morning Tuesday. Install: Day 5 (Tuesday) Installer came at 3pm. Said part not arrived yet, but got drain pan working. Install: Day 6 (Wednesday) Got call from dealer service department wanting to know what day the next week they could install part. I said that was unacceptable because we would not be here. After 2 calls they agree to send someone next day first thing. Install: Day 7 (Thursday) Installer came at 10am, and after what he said were hours on the phone with Carrier support they were going to install new units. The only ones available were smaller but would be fine. (Im wondering why they recommended the larger, more expensive ones in the first place.)Install: Day 8 (Friday) Installer arrives at 1pm with new units. As I write this they are installing the new units, so I decided to download the Infinity app and get ready for remote access that weve enjoyed for years with Nest. I got the app downloaded and started to register. My screen (mobile and computer) says Carrier server is down, try later. I called support and they said server has been down 11 days, and they do not have an estimated time for it to be operational. Support is open Monday-Friday, so I asked them if I must be at the thermostat to connect it to my phone. They confirm that, so because I must leave Sunday to go home I will not be able to setup remote access. I will not be able to remotely see what the temp is so I wont know if the units are working.If they dont at least get the units working correctly today I plan to have them removed and replaced with Trane units. Please notice that I have attempted to be factual and not be emotional or let my anger, frustration, and home temperature (its over 90 degrees again today) show through. I only write this to let prospective buyers know to think twice before selecting Carrier.
We had a new system installed in Sept of 2010. As of today, we are on our 3rd replacement ECM motor. According to the HVAC company, these have been failing at a terrible pace. The first two were under warranty (still had to pay $150 for labor) and now Carrier is saying they wont cover any more since we didnt register with them at the time of purchase (had NO clue we needed to do that!). Even though we have receipts for the sale from, they wont honor their warranty. If there is a class action lawsuit coming for these guys, sign us up!
New installation in new home May 2015. Top of the line heat pump (25VNA048). Coil froze up with massive ice buildup in cold snap December 2016. Faulty coil sensor so unit failed to go into defrost cycle. $232 for labor as out of the 1 year period. Guessing the part cost only a few dollars. Like other postings here I had no response from Carrier. Clearly they dont care. I would not use their products again. Anyone know where the parts are made?
Had a carrier model 25HBC318A0030010 - Ser# 2013E14437 barely 7-months ago. Two weeks ago had the company come in for maintenance on the unit. One week later the system non-functional due to the X-13 Blower in the air handler, model FB4CNF018T00ABAA, ser# 2913A72942. As a businessman I understand things break down and that is life. But what I did not agree with is getting charged $120.00 in labor to install a motor that has not even passed its warranty date. The labor billed as recorded relative to the equipment serviced should be guaranteed for a period of one year from the date of the original invoice or install date. Service invoice **, Customer **.
Installed a Carrier HVAC in 2016 remodel. A year later the outside coil was leaking. Carrier agreed to replace the defective part, but not the labor costs. $1,000! This week A/C doesnt work and we find out a different coil is leaking. Another defective part that Carrier agrees to replace under warranty but not labor costs. In for another $500! This is absolutely unacceptable. My story is not different from many Ive read here. How do we go about initializing a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!
It is extremely hard for HVAC companies to work with Carrier. My units coil broke so the coolant ceased working. I was charged $1600!!!! to replace the coolant although the coil was covered. Mind you, the coolant was lost because the coil failed. Carrier refused to cover it. NEVER AGAIN WITH THIS COMPANY.
My home is a little over 5 years old and I have 2 Carrier split units. Low coolant and of course a leaking condenser. Carrier units are specific and do not use generic parts so a normal $300 condenser is $953. Carrier responded with, We are sorry. Your unit is out of warranty by 4 months. There is NOTHING we can do. No offer to get me a reduced price on a crappy piece of hardware they engineered and installed in their units. Had 3 HVAC specialists say the same thing... NEVER USE A CARRIER. They dont care crap about their customers and they ** you on the parts because you have NO CHOICE but to get it from them. Going to dump them ASAP.
Very dissatisfied with the quality of our Carrier 4 ton air conditioner (model 24ABB348A003). The compressor failed after only 3 years and it was not a blow out failure. The technician said it is internal failures most likely due to the quality of the compressor. The warranty of course only cover the park itself, not even the coolant they have to refill after reinstall the compressor. The diagnosis and the replace of the compressor cost about the 1/4 of the original cost and install of the air conditioner. It is ridiculous to have to spend so much on labor to fix a major component on an problem most likely due to the quality of their product.When speaking to a carrier representative, they do not stand by their product, only referring to the letter of the warranty agreement. Parts also does not include coolant cost. The excuse is that they do not know what exactly cause the compressor failure and they do not look at every compressor that failed, even those that failed in much less typical lifetime of the product. It is very good to know that Carrier does not take quality of their product seriously enough to diagnose major component that prematurely failed. Either that or they have so much failure on their compressor that they just dont care. Either conclusion does not speak well of Carrier as a company.
I purchased the Infinity 17 Unit in 2009 with, according to my contract with the dealer, has a 10 year warranty. Recently the compressor went out and upon trying to replace it, I was told the warranty was only good if the products were registered. They (Customer Relations at Corporate Office) stated that registration for the unit was not completed. It only shows the registration for the furnace which extends that warranty from 5 years to 10 but did not show the same for the compressor.Therefore they would not honor the warranty for the compressor. I told them there must be a mistake since why would only one part of the system be registered and not the complete unit. They refused to do anything to remedy the matter. So I am stuck with a bill of several thousand dollars to repair or replace the system. Also, I had to replace the coils three years ago. I purchased this higher priced unit because it is one of their top products and the warranty. I am very disappointed with the unit and with the company response.
What good is a warranty when the costs are so high it makes it cheaper to replace system (central AC unit), second leak in the outside coil at one of the sweated joints in two yrs and maybe more. Called to see if they would replace condenser but they would only replace the coil making the repair costs too high. So I just fed up with this POS and went with a Trane 10 yrs parts and labor, what a expensive lesson, never again.
Just over ten years ago, we built a new home in Pennsylvania and decided on a Carrier heat pump because of anticipated quality and longevity. The outdoor unit is a 38YDB using a Bristol compressor. The compressor recently failed after 10 years and 6 months. Through our HVAC repair company, we knew that Carrier has had problems with the Bristol compressors (which are no longer used) and our repair company should know since they have been a dealer for almost 30 years.I contacted Carrier customer service and customer relations personnel by telephone and I made them aware (although they didnt acknowledge) of the companys compressor problems. I asked two questions : 1) would Carrier provide some satisfaction to our situation with regard to how close to the warranty the failure occurred? and 2) if we should choose to purchase a new Carrier unit, would the company provide any type of recompense toward the cost of the new unit? Carrier provided nothing in response to my inquiries. Essentially, No, were not going to provide any measure of customer relief or satisfaction and with the tone of, nor do we really care if you take your business elsewhere. This I will certainly do!
Our heat pump compressor and related parts that were installed in our residence in 2011 required a replacement parts July 2016. We are very dissatisfied with the quality of our top of the line Carrier Heat Pump System. Parts are warranted for 10 years, but the issue remains, if the system is what Carrier boasts this system as their top of the line product, why do we need to have to pay for the compressor and related parts to be replaced.We are being charged a high rate of $167 per hour to replace these parts, along with $167 initial cost to diagnose the problems. It seems as though we are paying for the parts along with the repair, for a unit that should last 10 years. Sunset Air is the contractor replacing the parts and has estimated labor charges in excess of $1,300 just to replace the needed parts (8 hour job). Carrier has told us they are not responsible for labor charges, but the unit should hold up for the 10 years as boasted for their again top of the line unit.
I bought the 5 ton Carrier Infinity HNA26 indoor and outdoor unit heat pump system in 2007. My money was good; my purchase was not. Ducting was made to spec for the Carrier heat pump compressor in a new home heating some 3500 sq feet. 4 years later, 2011, the original compressor packed it in, a new compressor was installed costing me some $2000.00 more - labour and refrigerant. There were also numerous service calls prior, with among others the replacement of a honking reversing valve. Now in 2015 the 2011 replacement compressor has packed it in - another 4 years. Two (2) compressors shot! Junk! I phoned another heat pump outfit and they will install a comparable American Standard for some $12,500.00 here in British Columbia, Canada. That is a boat load of money to replace a Carrier unit that should have lasted some 15 or so more years. There should be a class action suit against Carrier for this!
I paid $13,000 for an Infinity System in July 2007. On New Years Eve, the furnace failed and we sat for three days without heat until the blower motor could be replaced. This summer 2014 the heat pump failed and I had to pay $3500 for the bottom line Carrier heat pump to match the remaining system. $16,500 for a system with TWO major failures in seven years? I AM DONE WITH CARRIER.
We bought a brand new town home in 2015 with a Carrier air conditioner that was made in 2012. After only 7 years the oil and fluid leaked out causing the unit to seize up and die. Really disappointed in the overall quality and durability of this product. Would not recommend this lemon.
Never buy Carrier products...Payne, Carrier or Bryant. My first gas furnace failed because of faulty coils after 10 years...seemed reasonable but there was no warranty. Hvac agent put in new coils knowing they were defective and it cost me thousands. Now the new coils have failed. Hvac agent says $17000 to replace. I went with Trane for total $7,800 incl new ac unit. Never buy Carrier products as they lie and wont support clients.
We built a new home with our builder using Carrier for the HVAC system. After 5 1/2 years of use we had to replace both the outside and inside units, their warranty is 5 years. I have owned many homes and have never had as many problems with a unit. Their customer service was also unhelpful. I would never install or buy a home with a Carrier system.
Just installed a new 2 1/2 ton Carrier air conditioner. It emits 85 decibels of sound. It was advertised to be as low as 65 decibels. This is intolerable at night! Carrier could care less!!! NO recourse for me. Buying Carrier was a colossal blunder! I have no one to blame but myself. As it turns out American Standard was the best choice. Trane was second. That was based on exhaustive research, after the purchase. I found what seemed to be endless complaints against Carrier. How do you test drive an air conditioner? Caveat emptor!
I had a new heat pump installed yesterday. While the technician was here, we attempted to register the new equipment using the website address in the Carrier literature. A message came up and said its not a valid website (cac.bdp.com). So I called Carrier, their phone message said to go to Carrier.com/homecomfort to register the product, which I did. While the tech was here, I attempted to register the equipment but the website kept asking for the installer no matter what I entered. The technician recommended that I call Carrier back (he had to go to his next job). I called Carrier and was told they no longer accept product registrations over the phone. So when I told the woman I could log in to their website to register the product while she was on the phone, she said she wasnt allowed to hold for customers. She seemed pretty rude. The problem here is that the Carrier website wont allow me to register my product (tried three different browsers) and their customer service will not help me register. This comes across as a warranty scam. Make it difficult so that customers dont register the product then deny warranty claims.
June 2003: We had a weather maker 9300TS furnace/air conditioning unit installed in our home. The previous furnace had been in the home for nearly 30 years and still running strong.Since we had this product installed, we have had to have it serviced every year. They have replaced the circuit board, switches, coils, re-worked the lines and yet again, with the temperature at 25 degrees, it has gone out again. At the time we thought we were getting a quality product, but now we realize that this product is not worth the contract we signed when we purchased it. Very disappointing to pay that kind of money for a product that does not work. The installers have came out each time and performed a quick fix instead of addressing the obvious issue, which is apparently a faulty product. I would never recommend a carrier product to another. As far as the duct work being under-sized, which I have heard some refer to when this product was installed we had duct work installed, also, its the product itself. Very disappointed, never again.
In 2011 we purchased a dual fuel heat/air. By 2014 it was leaking. Replaced the evaporator, at the cost of $700 not including the Freon we had added to the system. Then by 2016 it was down. Freon again. This time condenser leaking. $200 for the Freon, another $84 to find the leak, and now 1$278 to replace the coil. We asked carrier to replace the whole heat pump as we must have a lemon and they sent info to product review, we thought they were considering helping with at least the labor costs if not a whole new unit. I called back after over 2 weeks of not hearing, and they said they would only replace the coil, because our unit is over 10 yrs old! HUH? Its been less than 5 yrs, and they said we didnt maintain it in over 10 yrs! HUH, hello carrier? 2016 from 2011 purchase date is 5 yrs. Yes, the unit is maintained but not by your service contract. No wonder All Temp Co. Heating and Air Conditioning of Harrisburg, NC sells these. They get a lot of work out of these inferior products, over and over again. Run as fast as you can and buy a Trane. Wish we had. Maybe carrier might move back from Mexico. I guess it doesnt matter where its made if they wont stand behind their product. I think after 2 major leaks we deserved more than their attitude and bad record-keeping.
