18 month old Trane blower motor ECM module defective furnace shut down on coldest day of year and no parts available, took a week to get the part and it was defective also. Another week called Trane, they could care less about your problem. If I live here long enough will never replace anything with a Trane.

I had a new Trane XE1000 heat pump installed in 1997 at a cost of $5600.00. In 2001, the reversing valve failed and I was given the option to replace just the valve (not recommended by the technician) at a cost of $500 or replace the entire outside compressor unit at a cost of $1450. I chose the latter. In 2009, the compressor burned out due to a refrigerant leak. I had the compressor replaced, lines flushed of any dirt or debris, tested for acid contamination and recharged at a cost of $1600.00. The new compressor burned out after 3 weeks. So far I have $8650.00 in this heat pump and it still does not work properly. In my opinion, Trane products are poorly made, of inferior quality and they rely on advertising and their reputation from 15-20 years ago for sales today. I cannot recommend anybody buy this overpriced junk.

We installed two Trane XLi20 units five years ago. The first floor unit has performed flawlessly. The second floor air handler was replaced within two months, followed by over 20 service visits by our local Trane installer (who has been great throughout). Since the local distributor has not been able to solve the recurrent coiling failure issues and Trane has not offered to replace the compressor, even though the problem almost always seems to be low refrigerant pressure, our installer has offered to install a comparable new Lennox system for free. Trane has been non-responsive to consumers for such a long time that I cannot believe they can still survive in this business. Never again. Has anyone started a class action against Trane? Id love to join in.

We have a Trane heat pump and electric furnace. The whole system is 11 years and 2 months old. The heat pump has to be replaced because the compressor is shorting out. When I contacted the Trane company, I was told there was nothing they could do since the warranty was only 10 years. I thought Trane was such a great product! I would never recommend this product to anybody!

My wife and I purchased a 2500 sf. home in 2011 that was equipped with 2 Trane HVAC systems. The home was designed to operate with 2 systems to provide adequate airflow for both 1st & 2nd floors and to eliminate the excessive wear & tear of only relying on 1 unit to do the job. To this point, I have never owned a home that was equipped with a Trane product, but have always heard great things. We actually thought we were getting a little Peace of Mind because of the feedback weve heard about the Trane brand, but Peace of Mind was the last thing we received. Our opinion about Trane products took a turn for the worst last week when I noticed that the AC system sounded slightly louder than usual. My first instinct was to check the vents for airflow, which there was no cold ac coming out. When I checked the main HVAC unit, I noticed the lines were frozen (usually means low Freon or better yet, a Freon leak). At this point I called a reputable AC company to come out, fix the leak and recharge the system. When the technician arrived he began troubleshooting the system and discovered there was severely more problems with the unit than originally expected. When the technician opened the unit he noticed that there was excessive corrosion to the internal parts, which also needed to be repaired. After a full survey of my ac system the technician told me that I have 2 choices: Option 1, repair the defective internal parts which was quoted at $2,600.00 or Option 2 Replace the entire AC system for about $6,000.00. I called Trane to inquire about any warranty offering and the lady kindly informed me that my unit was not covered.Im not a detractor of the Trane brand because of the quoted cost of repair, I am completely aware of the Cost of Ownership and maintenance cost. Im a detractor of the brand because the product performance/life expectancy does not meet the companys product message. There is a certain level of expectations that consumers have when they spend their additional money for a premium product. Being a first time Trane owner and having had my first experience working with Tranes customer service, I can honestly say I have ZERO interest in ever owning another Trane. I will try to load pictures of my A/C system to accurately reflect its condition. Externally, the system looks brand new. Internally, well, that is a different story.

I bought a new Xi15 heat pump and furnace on 16 Jul 09 and the thing hasnt worked right more than a few days at a time since I bought it. I had to have gas serviced two times since install--the first time was just days after the annual service was done and nothing was found wrong. The first time, the tech didnt have enough gas and said that hed be back (yep, he came back the next year for the service and had to fill it again). I had the annual service done in July and ran the AC for two days. I just decided to turn on the heat a couple of days ago and it didnt work again. Every time I turn the unit on, after a couple of months, it doesnt work. Its an $8,700 piece of **.The tech came out Friday again and said that the fan motor is bad and said that it will be $328.75 labor to replace--should take all of an hour. Anyway, Ill never do business with Dicks or Trane again. Mike **, the sales guy, lied about the warranty and Dicks tried to scam me on the annual service that was free. Trane doesnt even want to discuss the issues and refers me back to Dicks so they carry the same reputation in my book. I am just sorry that I went way out of my way to help Trane get cutting edge technology from my own company. I should have thrown them the same bone, but Im not like that.

Im writing this review in regards to Trane air conditioning and heating unit that we purchased in 2015. Just after having unit for six months we had to replace the compressor unit outside. I continue to make calls to the installers of this unit regarding the air-conditioner not cooling. After coming to our house six different times to service the air-conditioner and installing Freon in the unit multiple times. We were told our air-conditioner now require new evaporator coils. The cost would be $995. I then decided to get another opinion of what was wrong with our air conditioner. Each person I had look at the unit had something different to tell me about what was wrong with it. I then decided to call the Trane manufacturer. They gave me a name of a Trane dealer teams. So I called them. They came out, told us that we needed to have the Expansion valve replaced. We did. That was $350, That didnt fix the unit so they had to do a complete unit inspection and have a trane support team tell them what was wrong with it. Now we need evaporator coils replaced. Now its another $950. This air-conditioner is less than two years old and weve had nothing but problems. Trane Will not stand behind their product. Do not buy a Trane.

My nine year old XV90 Trane furnace leaks water and two different contractors concluded that the heat exchanger is cracked. Even though the heat exchanger has a lifetime warranty, it will not be honored by Trane because that piece for my model is discontinued. As a result, they will only offer a credit of $360 for that towards a new Trane furnace. For a piece that is the heart and soul of the machine, that amount of credit is simply laughable since it would cost a lot more than that if purchased out in the market. Therefore, this lifetime Trane warranty is simply misleading to say the least. For now there is no resolution other than me shopping for a new furnace and I will never buy a Trane product due to this fiasco of a lifetime warranty.

On October 23 2019 Trane dealer from Ormond Beach FL installed Trane® 4TWR4036G1000 XR14 heat pump and Air Handler. According specifications on heat pump it must include Climatuff® compressor. The Climatuff® compressor is the only one Trane uses in its residential systems. Its durable, reliable, and highly efficient. That was the reason I decided to install Trane. My heat pump has a LG compressor. (Number part COM11968). When I ask my dealer why, they just told me they changed it without explanation. I do not know was it a bad unit or installation. They also changed evaporation coils. All in first week. When I called Trane customer service they told me last time they had such problem in August 2016. They advised me to tell my dealer to send unit back to distributor and get a new one. No warranty claims. No invoices for product and parts installation. My system did not pass city inspection because they did not put hurricane pad for elevation. I refuse to have Trane without Climatuff compressor. I am a widow living on VA pension and can not afford to pay for future repairs. I need second opinion from another Trane dealer and resolve this situation as soon as possible because it is affect my health.

I have three 20i, 4 ton, dual fuel heat pumps on my home. The house is 5 years old. All three of these units have had major failures during the 5 year period. Failures include a heat exchangers, two leaking condensers, failed blower motor, failed gas valve, multiple failed circuit boards, failed thermostat, and a total air handler failure which resulted in the entire unit having to be replaced. Two of the failures resulted in the units being down for over a month before parts could be obtained. I have had multiple homes with many different brands of HVAC units. This is my first experience with Trane, and it will be my last. My house was custom built and is toured by many people for construction ideas. When asked if I would change anything, the only thing I advise people to do is stay from Trane HVAC units. When the warranty is up on these three units, I will very likely replace them all with another brand. Its obviously Hard To START A Trane.

I had an XV20i heat pump installed with a Tam 8 air handler and the top of the line thermostat. This was a $12,000 purchase. The unit was installed two and a half years ago. Ive had nothing but continual and still ongoing problems. My installing dealer went out of business so Ive had to pay for labor during a time the labor should have been covered under warranty. To date Ive paid $1,000 in labor charges since installation, not to mention the constant headaches with the unit being down. Trane did refund me approximately $280.00 in labor charges a few months back. However, when I was offered that amount I expressed my displeasure with the amount and was told take it or leave it. When my dealer went out of business, I contacted Trane customer service asking what I should do and if there were any dealers in my area that knew how to work on these newer units. I was given a list of dealers (which I kept).Every dealer I called on the list told me they didnt service my area. So I was on my own. I called a local Trane dealer out of the phone book. He was very honest and told me his company didnt service these type of units due to their complexity. He referred me to another dealer. I was told this dealer sells a lot of high-end equipment and they know what they’re doing. The dealer I was referred to has been to my house 4 times since April 2016, just as recent as 3 days ago.As Im writing this review my unit is down again. On their first service run I was told my outside unit need a software upgrade to 2.0 and a new personality module which I paid them to install. The unit ran fine during the summer, but now that its cold problems have returned, and as I stated it is down again. This unit is clearly a LEMON. Since it obviously cant be repaired correctly, I want Trane to furnish me a new unit installed. I have a stack of work orders, which I previously submitted to Trane. Of course I have even more now.

We bought 1.5 year ago new AC system from Trane because the high quality standard (we had in mind). A month ago, after the one year warranty, the air handler started to leak and after consulting the dealer they ordered a new water pan and they did the installation of that pan. But to install a new pan the coil has to taken out. I was watching this all on the side, but when they took out the coil I saw a damaged coil and stopped them from finishing and took pictures of the damage. The dealer finished the job, I paid him.I filed a complaint against Trane. First I found it unfair to let me pay for that renewing of that pan and second about the damage on the coil. They agree to pay for the repair but the damage on the coil they waved that away. I then filed a complaint through the BBB and the answer of Ms. Erin ** (Consumer Relations Supervisor) was, There is no damage to your coil that is not cosmetic. The functionality, life expectancy, and efficiency will not be negatively affected by the bent spine fins on your evaporator coil. The equipment passed inspection because there is no mechanical damage to the equipment! I would like to say to Ms. **, You should be a great car sales women, you will sell me a car with substantial damage and you use the sentence from above. Functionality, life expectancy and efficiency will not be negatively affect your car. Also, sometimes when a product has a dent or a cosmetic damage, the factory or the dealer will give you a discount because of the damage. The worse of this case is that the coil with the damage passed quality control. So there are probably many of those coils in most of your air handlers. We now talk about the high standard quality Trane will allow us to believe.I already suggested to Ms. ** that if she allows this type of damage on their outside condensers (where you can see the coil), I explained to her that this quality of a condenser would never sell. Im seeking now for, first, a apologize for the way they allow to pass coils with substantial damage and just put them in your air handlers, is just wrong. Secondly, because I expected a brand new, not damaged air handler, a discount on the unit or replacement is in order. Because of all this aggravation and the time I have put into this that discount will be at least 50%. If needed I can add the pictures.

Our home was built in 2002 and completed in October. We have a closed loop geothermal system with 3 zones. Each zone has a heat pump and a Trane air handler. The system works well and weve had good heating and cooling for 9 1/2 years with low electric bills (thanks to geothermal). We have a 3 visit per year contract with the company that installed our system and have been generally pleased with this service. The first air handler failed after 4 years due to an evaporative coil leak. It was replaced under warranty (with plenty of labor costs). The second one had the same problem shortly after the 5-year warranty expired. It was replaced at full cost. The third unit now requires replacement at less than 9 1/2 years old due to another evaporative coil leak. 3 out of 3! That’s a definite strike out for Trane. All 3 air handlers are indoors in clean protected environments and have had the units serviced 3 times per year. Our much cheaper heat pump that we had in our previous house in TX (with air handler in a blazing hot attic) never had a coil leak. The electric bills were a lot more, but there were no failures in 13 years.

For our home we have purchased two Trane Air conditioners in last seven years. First one lasted only 5 years and I had replaced with another Trane Unit for upstairs bedrooms. It was big mistake. Second unit was installed on March 15, 2014. Annual maintenance contract was signed with installer. In last week of July 2015 AC compressor stop working. We have to sleep on the floor downstairs until new compressor was installed on August 3, 2015. July August are hottest months in Georgia. In April 2016, our air conditioner stop working again. Tech person diagnosed that indoor coil was leaking and it was replaced. Again in August 2016, compressor was stop working and we are without air conditioning in our upstairs bedroom for last 3 weeks. We are sleeping again downstairs floor for last 3 weeks.Thank God downstairs Tempstar AC unit still working next to Trane AC Unit for last 35 years without any issues. Now that is manufacture quality which I do not find in Trane Units that I have dealt in last seven years. I have to pay $160.00 for diagnosis. When I contacted Trane customer service at 1 800 945 5884 two weeks about their defective product and ask for replacement unit, I got around. They keep losing my supporting documents and I have to resubmit 4 times on email provided. Finally after two weeks, escalation specialist Jennifer ** contacted me to advise that company policy does not allow to replace unit and I have to spend my own money for labor cost. When I insisted then she offered me $500.00 maximum to repair unit.Any reasonable homeowner expect that their big investment in brand new AC unit would last only two years. Other brand name like my Tempstar still working after 35 years. My conclusion is based on my experience that Trane Units are manufactured poorly and lack quality control. Please do not buy Trane AC products, unless you want nightmare dealing with repair cost, discomfort and hassle with their customer service. The company does not stand by with its products.

I had a unit installed 4 1/2 years ago. I paid over 7k for the unit installed. Since that time I have required someone coming out at least every 6 months for a new issue. Each time having extra cost and fees associated. Last month 500 bucks for an issue, this month a coil needs replaced. Although the cost of the coil itself is covered by Tranes warrenty, the cost is still almost 1300 in charges for labor and coolant replacement. I would never purchase another Trane. If youre looking for HVAC equipment, youve probably heard the Nothing runs like a Trane commercials. Well, my experience with them differs a bit. Their slogan should be Nothing RUINS like a TRANE... ruins your reputation with your tenants, ruins your day, ruins your familys holiday, and ruins your bank account. My system, which SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN WARRANTY cost me almost $2000 to fix due to a defective A coil, and TRANE weaseled out of their warranty and stuck me with the bill. If youre looking for HVAC equipment, do yourself a favor... dont believe Tranes advertising hype and choose a company that will truly stand behind their product. I contacted them through their website, explained what had happened, and a week later, got a machine-like call from a minimum-wage customer service agent who obviously couldnt care less if I ever bought another TRANE system and refused to even consider my warranty claim. Needless to say, Ill NEVER spend a dime with TRANE after this experience and I strongly suggest you heed my warning and avoid them like the plague.

We had to replace all the evaporator coils which had completely rusted. Trane refused to acknowledge that this was a latent defect or to offer any remuneration for installation of these three new coils which cost $1800.00. Several other neighbors experienced the same problem on their Trane units which were also high efficiency and installed within three months of my purchase of these units. I am a HVAC contractor having installed Trane and American standard units for many years. So 3.5 years ago (this was the year they switched over from R-22 to R410A refrigerant... R410A is a much higher pressure refrigerant!) we installed a new Trane 2 circuit 10 ton condenser and air handler to cool a server room located in a 4 story building. After 13 months of operation the unit sprung a leak.. Trane said 1 year warranty was over so we repaired the leak, no charge to the customer. 2 years later another leak in a different brazing joint. 3 years later two more leaks on separate circuits and again on different brazing joints.. 3.5 years another leak... Finally customer had enough of their servers shutting down in emergency mode causing damage and customer loss.. We lost complete trust in the ability of this unit to hold a refrigerant charge. I stepped in again and installed a complete new condensing unit, crane rental, spot cooler rentals and all.... Thousands of dollars later I demanded Trane reimburse the cost of the new condenser and I would handle all other cost and rentals, they declined! The 10 ton Lemon is stored in the back of my shop at the moment (in case I need it for proof). Needless to say I have ended all sales of Trane and American Standard.

Coil Leaking, HVAC person tells us ALL HVAC UNITS are bad now. I hope the title says it all. I purchased a high-end TRANE for roughly $8000 a little over 4 years ago and while still under warranty the coil has been leaking and I ran out of Freon. To fill the unit up to get through the summer I spent about $700 for the coolant. The warranty doesnt cover labor, so even if I order a new coil under warranty, it will cost a fortune to install it, with no guarantee it will perform any better. My HVAC person said theres roughly 350,000 units with bad coils right now. Is there an agency I can call, like an insurance commissioner in our state? I know theres such a thing as a Lemon Law with respect to cars. Can there be a class action suit brought against these companies?

I purchased my Trane in 2013 from a local heating and air contractor. It was the greatest purchase I could have made. I live in SW Virginia, which means it gets pretty hot in summer and cold in winter as we live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. It keeps the house cool in summer and toasty warm in winter. It's been known to get down to zero around here upon occasion. This really is a wonderful unit. It has a 10 year warranty which is really good. I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend or to buy it again. Love it! It's Energy Star rated and has brought my electric bill down considerably. It was only $113.00 last month down from over $200.00! If you are looking to buy a furnace or heat pump I would highly suggest you look at Trane first. It's the best one out there by far!

My first 3-Ton Trane 18XL system installed in December of 2004 lasted until May of 2018. I live on an island and so my condensers are exposed to harsh conditions, even so my old system never stopped until the condenser coil sprung a leak on a copper to aluminum factory swaged joint. I replaced the system with a new XL 18i condenser and a TAM9 air handler (AHU). This new AHU lasted from May 2018 to December 2018 having developed a leak on a factory welded u-joint. My dealer in Miami was kind enough to provide a new coil under warranty but Trane would not pay for the shipping and wanted me to send back the defective coil back at my cost. The new AHU coil installed in late March 2018 and lasted until late May 2020 and failed the same way as the first. My dealer was swift in getting me a warranty replacement again but said Trane offered no comment about why the same failure happened. My dealer also noted several other failures of the same nature on AHU coils he supplied over the past year. This is very concerning to me as my previous Trane units seemed unstoppable. Now I think it is time for Trane to change its slogan to Trane stops every year. Ill be looking for another brand if this one fails within the warranty period.

Built a new home in 2008 and had a TRANE HVAC installed. The AC coil leaked and was repaired within the first year. Now the unit is 8 yrs old and I am told that both the AC coil and the inside attic coil is leaking. Repairs will cost as much as installing a complete system, according to Smiths AC company. Im now shopping for a more reliable brand. Hopefully with American made parts.

Our unit isnt 2 years old yet and the coil is leaking. They have no idea when the warranty part will be in. We paid $554 to have them come out, they tried to fix it to hold it over until the parts came in but it lasted 24 hours. Now we have to pay for a part that isnt covered under the warranty. The slogan Nothing stops a Trane is true. A Trane stops a Trane HVAC. Very dissatisfied. We went with Trane thinking it would last longer and have no problems.

Replaced a 14-yr old 5-ton RHEEM split system with a new 5-ton XV20i condenser (matched field - XC80 gas furnace and 5-ton evaporator coil in the attic). Well, I was surely sold on looks and the rhetoric of what it can do - a variable speed (720 speeds) of compressor and furnace, Wi-Fi capable, energy-efficiency, etc. Right from the start I realized there is something fundamentally wrong with this AC system. As an example, lowering the temp. from 75 to 73 degrees takes over an hour to achieve (with inside humidity of 50% and outside temp just below 90 degrees). My old Rheem unit, before going out (due to its evaporator coil leaking) would take about 5 mins (for sure no more than 10 mins under similar conditions). After the system was installed I thoroughly inspected each and every duct supply coming out of the new plenum for leaks and found none. Please note, I did not have new ducts installed, so my existing ones were used with the new system. Also, the new system was connected to the existing freon lines (that run from the outside unit to the attic). I believe, if the freon lines (hidden as they pass thru walls and to the attic) are leaking (thus showing that the system is undercharged), the thermostat would detect such and give an error code. But no alerts or error code(s). When the unit is cooling (fan blower is on), there is a loud, annoying noise coming from one of the two return vents. When at night, being quiet, the noise is so loud that we can not stand it and takes us longer to fall asleep.Asking the install company to investigate/resolve an issue is like asking for a discount after you already paid them for the service - after being paid for their service, they are gone/done with you! Making things worse, calling Tranes customer service is just a joke - long wait time, untrained / uninformed customer service people. The company does not have any tech support. The company does not have a field rep like other HVAC manufacturers do. You get ZERO support from this company and you will immediately feel unwelcome when talking to them.As a result, we have nowhere to go, no help from Trane at all!!! Their response was call your installer or an authorized Trane dealer for help. Well, calling another dealer for service, after you tell them you had a brand new system installed a week ago, they will shy away (not wanting to deal with another installers flaws). Trane knows that and they do not care. This is TOTALLY unacceptable! Folks, this is a bad company, PERIOD!! Think twice before you buy their products. This has been an ongoing nightmare... cannot cool the house efficiently and cannot sleep at night from the noise. All of these because of Trane (an unorganized company making flawed products and providing zero tech support)! SHAME ON YOU TRANE!

In July 2014, I purchased a Trane 4 ton air conditioner and air handler. In July 2017, the coil developed a leak and I spent $1150 in labor cost to install new coil and $300 to replace refrigerant even though the coil was under warranty. In August 2019, the new coil also developed a leak. I had to pay $850 in labor to install my 3rd coil and $390 to replace refrigerant that leaked out. Replacing both coils under warranty cost me a total of $2690. My service technician from AA American Air Conditioning told me that this is a common problem with Trane coils. I called Trane Customer Service and was immediately told that they would not compensate me for my expenses even though they are selling defective coils. Customer Service told me to have my service technician request a visit by a Trane field representative. He tried to do this but was told that the customer (me) has to contact Trane Customer Service to request a visit by a company field representative. I am in a Catch 22 situation and Trane is giving me the runaround. They clearly do not want to take responsibility for their defective coils and they have a “customer be damned” approach to customer service.

I have a critical room that is served by 8 Trane Voyager units at this building for the purpose of keeping critical equipment cool (millions of dollars worth of stuff). In the 2 and 1/2 years since the installation, 5 of the units’ exhaust fan motors have gone bad. The economizer damper actuators have broken on 4 of them. Two condenser coils have leaked and needed replacement on the units. 3 condenser fans have had to be replaced. The pulleys on 3 of the supply fans have had to be replaced because they are made out of plastic garbage. Every month or two, I have to get one of these units repaired. It is a never ending cycle of having to replace parts and rent a crane sometimes for heavy parts like coils and compressors. Do not buy Trane! I am now looking to replace this equipment because the critical equipment cannot be sustained properly due to all these repairs.

Even though I have had my current systems for only three years, I am very happy with Trane. The two units I have have been operating flawlessly for the entire time. The systems that were here when I purchased the house needed great deal of TLC for several years, even though they were only two years old when me bought the property. When my daughter in Massachusetts had an addition put on her house two years ago and asked my advice, I told her that both my personal research and my experience had convinced me to go with Trane.

On May 23, 2016 I had a Trane 3 Ton, 16 SEER Condenser & Air Handler installed at my residence. This system uses R410a. On July 25, 2016 the units were no longer cooling, so I went outside to see what was happening. When I looked into the condenser unit I saw that the top of the compressor was cherry red so I disconnected power and called the installer. He came the next day and put some oil in the lines stating it must be a bad TXV valve. So I asked him to get a new one and he said that would not be necessary the oil did the job. It ran for the remainder of the summer. On Aug 15th 2017 the compressor started banging, going on and off, and water was coming out of the emergency drip pan PVC line. So again, I called the installer and he said given what I said happened he will order new parts; compressor and TXV. WELL it is 4 weeks now and still no parts. Call the 800 number you say? I did 5 times, I have a reference number. I know them by first name. Their answer; We understand you are upset. They cant get the parts, WILL NOT replace the units and will not give me my purchase price back. So whats a person to do? NEVER buy a TRANE - they continue to field defective units full well knowing they will break down in less than a year. And from I have read in this column, I am not that confident these replacement parts, should they ever arrive, are not going to be a permanent solution. It important to remember this system failed in less than 2 months of operation.

In April 2015 we purchased what we believed to be a quality XV20i “TruComfort System”. We spent $17,500. From the beginning, our electric bills increased during times when temperatures are below freezing. We have had sleepless nights due to the loud compressor noise and the system runs 24 hours a day at times. The coils ice up so badly that the ice build up extends out of the side vents and into the fan compartment. We have to resort to our emergency heat unit as the fan blades hit the ice and cannot function. We wait until the unit thaws out with above freezing temps. Our HVAC company has been out multiple times and says all sensor readings are normal and basically don’t know how to fix our problem. Again we have paid for multiple service calls, the most recent $294 with no resolution. Unlike others, I have not attempted to call Trane, as it seems impossible to get help. Our local dealer promises to take care of us, but my faith is dwindling. We work hard for our dollars just like the rest, and it is very frustrating to spend this kind of money on a product that does not live up to its name. It is like robbery.

OK... purchased new Trane HVAC with CleanEffects Air Cleaner in November 2011. In July 2012, returned from vacation to find that fan had quit working. Fixed in 2 days. In July 2014, the CleanEffects quit working - diagnosed as a bad door which contains the electronics. Waited 2 weeks for part. Called installer who said the Trane was having a problem supplying the part as they had changed to a new company to manufacture the units and parts for the CleanEffects. Installer said that he was trying to get local distributor to provide the door from a unit in stock but to date that has not been accomplished.I sent email to Trane and received response stating that they hoped to have backlog of parts orders caught up by mid-August 2014. My concern and disappointment with Trane stems from the fact that the company and its distributors appear quite ready to sell CleanEffects units on hand knowing full well they cannot support the product and are at the same time ignoring needs of current owners of the units. Trane seems to have a problem maintaining parts inventories for their products. I would certainly advise anyone to steer clear of buying the CleanEffects air cleaner as Im not convinced that it does much of anything when it does work.

My home in SW Florida was built in 1967. Any HVAC system will have a challenge keeping up with the humidity and high temps here. My Trane AC system is 6 years old. It performs pretty well for the most part. I use cheap filters that allow the system breath and I replace them every month. Don’t waste money on expensive filters unless you have serious allergies. Thick filters make the AC work harder and will wear out the equipment.General maintenance is easy and I am diligent about keeping the outside unit clean. I use a spray bottle with watered down Dawn dish soap and a garden hose. I regularly clear the drain pipe with my shop vac. I had a routine check-up recently from my home maintenance provider (HomeTech - I highly recommend) and asked the tech why cold air is blowing out of the crevices around the maintenance doors and bolts on my air handler. Plain and simple, it is a design flaw. He said he sees it all the time on Trane units.I called Trane to find out if there was a replacement part for the casing or a recommended remedy. It was a runaround... All they would tell me is to call my dealer to evaluate the problem. That would cost me $119 for somebody to come out and say, “yep, there’s cold air leaking from the air handler into your garage. Ill call Trane and get back to you.” Parts are covered, but there was no evidence of parts available. Please! My solution was Gorilla tape and bubble wrap to cut down the loss of cold air. It worked, but it really shouldn’t be so difficult to get a straight answer and a fair solution. I paid a lot of money for my AC system. I didn’t expect to be patching it myself. There is a lot of room for improvement.

I had my Trane XL90 furnace installed by a Trane authorized HVAC dealer man
I had my Trane XL90 furnace installed by a Trane authorized HVAC dealer many years ago. I bought it specifically because they had (still say they do) a lifetime guarantee on the heat exchanger. Something that I knew at the time was a weak point for many brands. Years later my furnace started to fail and Im certain now that I was experiencing high levels of CO in my house. (damp windows) I attempted to patch/seal the holes at the end of the bottom of the heat exchangers. It is a cooler area of the heat exchanger and I imagine condensation was an issues that ultimately created holes and furnace ignition issues from the improper drafting of exhaust gases into my house. For almost two years, I tried to keep it working. I complained to the dealer more than once and they said to contact Trane. I did!On SIX occasions, they basically denied having to do anything for me. They instructed me to contact the dealer and they could likely get me a $250 rebate off a new one. But these crooks know that this rebate is the same as what they were offering everyone. The heat exchanger came with a lifetime warranty, but labor was not included. They kept giving me the excuse that this heat exchanger was no longer available. True, but I bought a lifetime warranty, not a whenever the parts run out warranty. Typically a heat exchanger is an $800 to $900 part; however, they refused to compensate me or offer that amount as a rebate/credit off the new XL90 or a similar models. I ended up with a very nice and efficient Goodman. In talking to several other people about Goodman, they always seem to honor their warranties. TRANE WILL NOT! They are LIARS ! Nothing RUNS away from their warranty like a Trane!

This correspondence is in regards to an erratic and dangerous Trane service vehicle my daughter and I encountered Friday morning (2/12/2016) at 6:30 AM on US 290 at West 43rd in Houston, Texas. I was in the process of taking my daughter to school, the Duchesne Academy in the Memorial area, when we came upon a stalled vehicle in the right lane on the US 290 eastbound main lanes. As usual, the drivers in the adjacent middle lane took turns allowing vehicles from the blocked right lane to merge in. When it came our turn to shift over, the next vehicle intentionally speeded up to block our vehicle from merging in. When it became evident that our vehicle had already moved over before the van could cut us off, the vehicle behind us swerved into the left lane, accelerated past us, got in front of us and slammed on his brakes. For the next two miles the Trane driver continued to slam on his brakes, attempting to cause an accident.Although my daughter and I were not able to get the license plate for the vehicle, we did get the company name plastered all over the vehicle - Trane HVAC Services - Hunton Distribution, Unit 210. In having dealt with Trane personnel elsewhere in the country, I was always impressed with their courteous attitude and professionalism. Needless to say, my family and I are disappointed with the irrational and antagonistic Trane staff weve encountered in Houston to date. Presuming the driver of Hunton Distributions Unit 210 is representative of their staff in Houston, we will certainly think twice before having this service company work on our residential Trane units.

I built my house and had an XL16i installed in 2005. Within 6 months there was a recall and the installer came out and swapped out both the exchanger and the compressor (virtually changed everything out except the copper and control lines). Since that time the high and low compressors have been replaced (at different times) three times up until the 10 year compressor warranty period expired. Since there is no coverage for freon or labor, I ate the costs every time and could probably have saved a reasonable amount toward the purchase of a reputable and reliable unit by now. So... two months (2016) out of the 10 year warranty the low-level compressor has once again failed. My service company was kind enough to wire past the defective compressor and now the unit is running on the high level compressor only. It is simply a matter of time before the remaining stage fails. I spoke at length with the Service Techs and both stated this has been a known, ongoing issue with this unit (in the HVAC community they replace these compressors on a regular basis!) and Trane simply ignores its existence... They (Trane) have a stockpile of compressors known to fail, a system (i.e. XL16i) with these ongoing, inherent problems which they refuse to address, and customers are simply stuck with their lemons! Where is a Class-action lawyer when you need them?

Had a new Trane heat pump system installed in May of 2013. The system worked well until winter came. My first bill in Dec was $294. My second bill was $387, third bill was $528. I first thought the company that installed the system had underrated the size system I needed, so I called them. They came right out, & discovered the filter drier had not been installed properly & I was told it was a factory defect. I called Trane & attempted to get them to pay me for my loss due to their factor to stalled defective filter drier. After being in contact with 3 different customer care personnel & sending them previous years bills, I was told they dont pay customers heat bills. After several communications back & forth. They told me they would send me a check for $200. I responded that I wasnt looking for welfare & evidently they needed money more than I did. After that, I sent 2 emails to the CEO of the heat pump division with absolutely no response. I have used Trane systems for 20+ yrs because of their quality, but evidently their responsibility ends with repair of the defect. They assume no responsibility for cost incurred by the consumer. Purchased the Trane furnace 6 years ago. This summer when I came in the house from outside my whole house was full of smoke. I ran around looking for the fire and found nothing. A month later last week exactly when it got cold I went to run my furnace and it didnt work. When I went down and opened the panel I could smell the same smoke I smelt that day and there was my circuit board all black and melted. When I called the company who installed it (Masters) they came out and said the board was under warranty but the labor was going to be $300. Sounds cheap. But NO ONE can tell me why it caught on fire. So I told Masters I wasnt going to pay them to put in another circuit board because it could have BURNED MY WHOLE HOUSE DOWN. Their response was call Trane and let them deal with it. So I called Trane and the first question they ask is did I have it professionally serviced every year. I replied no but had heater coils replaced under warranty after just 3 years. Now I sit here waiting on Trane to tell me whats up and where we go from here. But I already know their answer and I told them dont even try and tell since I didnt have it serviced regularly its my fault, because had you WARNED me that if I didnt have it professionally serviced IT MIGHT CATCH FIRE I would NEVER have bought it. So after just 6 years here I sit with no furnace and no resolution. Now every time I call Trane, they say were working on it and well call you back. They have no intention of fixing it. So I called Masters back and said go ahead and replace the board and Ill pay the $300 BUT IF THE FURNACE CATCHES FIRE and burns down my house Im suing both Trane and you. The owner of Masters then says, NO THANKS. WERE NOT EVEN INTERESTED IN COMING BACK TO SERVICE IT. I said, Why are you worried it will catch fire? I mean if its safe whats the big deal? Both Trane and Masters heating and air are crooked and in this together to screw over the consumers knowing they GOT PROBLEMS they arent telling their buyers about when the purchase is made. PLEASE FIND ANOTHER FURNACE MAKER AS both Trane and Masters could care less for our SAFETY and cares if we lose everything. Of course all they are going to say is THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. So I ask if you have had a circuit board melt or catch fire please let me know. I know I am not the only one with this SERIOUS problem.

I received great service from my old unit, 9 hurricanes, many severe storms and never once has my Trane failed to function and operate flawlessly. If anyone asks I always recommend a Trane. I believe researching the installer is more important than the Trane manufacturer. If it's installed correctly, it'll run trouble free and give you many, many years of carefree service. My Trane heat pump quit and I called Country Heating and Cooling Inc to check it out and make the repairs. The system was less than 5 years old and still under the 10 year parts warranty. They discovered a very small leak in copper tubing and made the repair. They also replaced the condenser fan motor I assume because the leak caused a failure in the motor. It took 90 minutes and I was charged $1055.48 which included refrigerant. Shouldnt refrigerant be part of the parts? I asked why so much and they said this was a standard fee for this work. Its amazing Trane uses such cheap copper tubing or makes such poor connections so that it fails within a few years. Its even more amazing HVAC companies can charge almost $500 per hour for repairs. That is until 3 more weeks went by, then it did it again. They will be out today to look at it, but he said it probably is the same thing as before. The tech said that they are having this same problem with several other Tranes systems they installed. He also said that Trane has known about the problem for quite a while and has done nothing to really fix the problem. I and the company that installed our system are talking about completely removing the system and installing a complete different system from a different manufacturer.

So much for this reputable brand. New furnace and AC in 09. Flashing a draft pressure error code. Ran and passed all logical checks and even replaced the pressure switch (because cheap and easy) for the heck of it. Besides that ran all other troubleshooting and measure tests. All report fine but the thing still has issues in that it runs sporadically. Paid Freds $135 to tell me they dont know what the problem is because everything checks out. Supposedly their $99 initial trip/diagnostic fee covers for 30 days if they need to come back. Two days later and with 53 degree house, they say they spoke with Trane and said to try another pressure switch although doubts that is the problem, and or replace the board to the tune of around $800.00 installed, even though the board checks fine too. Really? Already paid this company to say dont know what is wrong and fixed nothing. Now they want to charge more labor to fix something that they dont know if even is the problem? And of course we find out the original part is not under warranty, but must have had issues because it is obsolete and has been changed a time or two since. So much for reliability and fair service companies. With all due respect to Jim the kind service tech (and is as miffed as we are) but the companies charge policies are out of line, and this comes from people in this business, that are unfortunately not local or Id be using them. And, it took 3 phone calls to Freds to even get a call back for service!

Purchased a 3 1/2 tn XR 13 heat pump 2-2014. Last week it stopped cooling. Contacted the installer. They found a leak where the coil was connected to the compressor. It was a failed solder connection. This repair cost $1200 mostly the cost of refrigerant R410a. Trane warranty excludes the cost of refrigerants. One disappointed consumer in South Carolina!

I’m a master HVAC tech. I installed 2 Trane xl16 heat pumps in my in-law’s house in 2006. So far both inside coils blew out in the first two years and one of the replacement coils that was suppose to be of better construction just blew out in the same place the last one did. Although I can get the parts under warranty, I’m out $250 worth of 410a Freon, not to mention the time and aggravation. All I can say is what happened to Trane and where did their quality go? Obviously profit outweighs making a good product. It has gone downhill so bad that companies in my area that have sold them for decades quit selling them, including me.

This is the reason I chose Trane for my heating and cooling comfort. Both my units worked perfectly for about 8 years. When the furnace would stop, but blower would run in the winter, my Trane repairman blamed the control board and the blower motor which were quite costly. The second service expert found it was the limit sensor, and suggested the control board that I said I had it replaced. Three winters of blowing air with no heat unpredictably the third repair guy, replaced the temperature limit and suggested my under floor vents were the issue. It comes down to that my Trane Furnace XE-90 only works properly when the weather is mild and heat isnt really needed. Advice to Trane furnace owners to look up the control panel light flash indicators meaning, it can tell you how many flashes you see represent the problem supposedly. Additionally watching the Trane tech, there is a way to have the front panels off while the unit works (Be safe about electricity at this point.) There is a trigger button on the top left that can be taped down with electrical tape. I cant afford to have repairmen around, or replace it all. The A/C went too, still working on that one.

Am extremely disappointed with Trane as a company and their products. I purchased a new system 8/2015 and made several attempts to register it and thought it was registered. I just learned from my dealer the registration did not go thru and I have to pay a lot of money to get a new coil for the inside part of the system. Purchased furnace and AC. Now 2.5 years later Trane says I have no warranty and I will have to pay all the expense. Even other types of junk has at least a year warranty on manufacturing defects. The coil has a hole in it. Which is obviously a manufacturing defect and Trane wont make it good. Product is not what it is advertised as. Its hard to stop a Trane?? Guess it would have to start first. I will never buy any other Trane products and will be sure no one in my family does either.

I am a HVAC service provider. I have a customer with a 3 yr old Trane unit under warranty. I ordered a replacement part under warranty. The part came in. I went to pick it up with the failed part at the local Trane supply in Chesterfield, Virginia and was told I still had to pay for a warranty part and would be reimburse later. They are fooling themselves if they believe that they have the best product and are engaging in false advertising when they say nothing can stop a Trane. The failure rate of their units are the worst in the industry.

I purchased my home in 2010. The Trane AC was installed new in 2007. I have had issue after issue each and every year ironically at about the same time each year. I do not touch the unit. It is set for constant just about year round living in FL. First, it was a non-issue HVAC service call messed around with unit and said it was all under warranty - never got a real answer but the service call was $300. The second year it was the hi/low switch which cost me $300 in labor. Today, it is the blower again under warranty but labor costs are at $200. At this rate, I will have paid for this unit again before it should be time to replace it.

My HVAC service man has just left after sharing the good news that yet another expensive fix is in store for me because of my Trane. My system was installed 5 years and 6 months ago, and wouldnt you know it, my leaking evaporator coil is toast and the warranty is... well yes... 5 years. This another in a long list of failures, repairs, bad contactor, bad capacitor, blown fuses, indoor unit fan not assembled correctly from the factory with evidence that the set screw was screwed down on the round instead of the flat of the shaft (that was a nice sound in the middle of the night btw), coolant added several times during the last 3 years until today finally discovering a huge leak in the evap coil. I guess it finally made its way from a slow leak to a deluge. Last fill lasted 24 hours. This is ridiculous. Stay away from Trane, please!

We purchased a new Trane heat and air system for our home nearly a year ago
We purchased a new Trane heat and air system for our home nearly a year ago. We wanted the best and top of the line so we wouldn’t have to worry about problems. Paid a high price for the package for our up and downstairs. Within 3-4 months we realized we had an odd smell coming from the vents and after several visits we find out both units had Dirty Socks syndrome (Yep that’s for real). After several visits and attempts to fix this bacteria growing on the coils, they had to replace coils on both units with epoxy coated coils. Thinking now after 6-9 months of problems we should be good, a week before our warranty was up the condenser for the upstairs unit went out and Trane wouldn’t replace the entire compressor unit, only the condenser, so our heating and air company, knowing all the problems, replaced the entire compressor unit at their expense! We would never buy another Trane and will never recommend them after this experience!!!

We purchased a Trane XL18i high-efficiency heat pump back in the fall. We have had many issues with the unit since installation. It was initially not installed correctly and continues to not work properly. We thought Trane was a good product, but we are seriously questioning this. Now that the season has changed and we are using A/C for the first time, it does not work correctly. We spent thousands of dollars and NO ONE seems to be able to rectify the issues. We have been given our 3rd thermostat (I dont think theres anything wrong with the thermostats), and Im really not so sure that there isnt a much bigger issue with the installation or unit itself. We believe at this point that the entire installation needs to be checked, including all wiring that was done with it to find the problem and resolve it once and for all. The Trane dealer we used is useless, so we called the Trane 1-800 number and requested a field service rep be sent out. They refused and said that they didnt care about the issue, talk to the dealer. They really dont stand behind their product! We are obviously not alone with this experience, so couldnt we all band together for a class action lawsuit? Any attorneys reading this or does anyone know an attorney who would take this on? I am on board with this. We would love a refund at this point and have them take all the equipment back so we can go with another company. Wishful thinking.

He’s done everything from change valves to Freon to pulling vacuums etc. Trane won’t stand behind their products, their consumer relations department is useless. Three different people gave me three different responses on how they would or wouldn’t help me. I am actively seeking a Florida class action attorney to represent me and thousands of other Florida consumers. Here is the background: In Feb. 2013, I was quoted $6185 for a new TRANE XL Hyperion 16 SEER 3 ton heat pump system for my condo in Gainesville, FL. This included a 10-year limited parts warranty supplied via the TRANE corporation, which was why I selected their equipment. The local utility company supplied a generous rebate as well, so my final purchase price was $5085 out of pocket. There were lots of forms and even air flow tests to be performed for energy efficiency, and a city building permit, too.Unbeknownst to me, this 10-year limited warranty coverage required ONLINE REGISTRATION WITHIN 60 DAYS, or became invalid, and was reduced by 50% to a mere 5-year base warranty. The online registration had to be done via a TRANE company website. However, I was not told to register the serial numbers, or I would lose my warranty coverage. But, the dealer, who would be clearly advantaged by this reduced coverage, knew about it for certain, as the policy started 4 years prior in 2009.My AC system is now 2 years old and I learned quite by accident, that I had lost my warranty coverage because it was not registered online before Day 61 on the TRANE website. I then contacted the dealer by phone and email and filed a request with TRANE to get my original 10-year limited warranty (which I paid for) re-instated. After two weeks of email, calls and postings on Facebook with the TRANE Corporation, I was finally told this week by phone by Cierra **, Trane Escalations Supervisor, that Trane respectfully decline[s] participation to change your warranty terms to 10 yrs. On behalf of Trane Inc. I do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and appreciate the time you took to make us aware of your concerns. Thus my 10-year limited warranty is now invalid and I am left with only 5 years.I believe that this is warranty fraud and may also violate the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (DUTPA), and likely constitutes bad faith on the part of Trane, and the installing dealer, who should have registered the serial numbers on the day of the install, just as a LEXUS dealer would register your VIN with LEXUS when they sell you a car. Please note that this required 60-day online registration policy is an advantage to ANY UNSCRUPULOUS HVAC dealer, and a huge DISADVANTAGE to most consumers, including the blind, handicapped, mentally challenged, poor people with limited or no Internet access, out of town property owners, etc. I am appalled at TRANEs response to this sincere and genuine effort on my part to restore my original 10-year warranty coverage. I believe that it is possible that HUNDREDS of consumers fall victim to this disappearing warranty coverage policy, but I am only asking for your help to restore my original warranty. However, it is worth noting that TRANE could solve this problem tomorrow by REQUIRING that ALL FLORIDA DEALERS register the serial numbers of their system on the date of installation.Meanwhile, I believe the damages in the loss of 5 years of warranty coverage is about $3000, if not more. I have contacted an HVAC warranty services company to find out the actual cost to restore similar warranty coverage. I doubt that any other local dealer will issue extended warranty coverage on my system, as it is now 2 years 4 months old. ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE IS APPRECIATED. I HAVE LOTS OF DOCUMENTATION I CAN SHARE, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL SALES QUOTE, INVOICE, AND MANY EMAIL TO TRANE AND LIBERTY AIR.

We installed an XL15 system in our home - heat pump, air handler, etc. near the end of 2011. 6 mos. after it was installed the fan motor on the air handler died. It took a week to obtain the replacement. Now, in May of 2019 were dealing with the need for other parts for the air handler - a circuit board, valve, EVAP sensor and another sensor. Parts take much too long to be obtained. They say 3-5 business days, but were already past 4 days and I dont expect to see them within 5. So, buyer beware that unless the part(s) you need are readily and locally available, you could have a problem. The risk is high and when we replace this system it will NOT be with a Trane system.

We purchased a new Trane A/C 16 months ago and have had a few small problems. Now our A/C has quit working due to a coolant leak. Paid $349 for a leak test only to find out the leak is in the evaporator coils in the air handler. The part is under warranty but labor to replace it will be $999. I spoke to a Trane representative thinking they should foot at least a portion of the bill because if their product worked correctly I would never be in this position. They adamantly refused to consider even paying anything, intimating that it was the environment or installation that caused the problem. We had our last air conditioner 15 years before having any service problems and have barely made it a year with this unit. This will be my last Trane purchase.

Purchased new Trane XL15i electric heat pump system for over $14K in 2013. Never used since house has wood heat, electric heat pumps are costly and A/C not necessary, Purchased for home re-sale. Discovered unit not operating in January 2015 - first time we attempted to heat house. Now almost May and unit still not working. So far fan motor has been replaced, a capacitor, two circuit boards, and now more Freon added. It appeared to work, but original problem appeared next day. Either units are defective, or technicians have insufficient repair training. I want to sell home, but it wont pass home inspection until the unit works. I should have read reviews, but assumed Trane was a reputable brand. It is essential to have a back up heating system if you choose this product. Unit is attractive and looks high tech. I paid USD 5500 and had a brand new Trane HVAC installed in 09/2012. In Jan 01/2017, it stopped heating, my installer said the Coil was leaking, then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid 600 labor for a brand new coil replacement. Then last month in 06/2017, it stopped cooling again! The same installer found the coil leaking again! With 2 days, Freon dropped off to almost 0 level. Then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid USD 430 to replace another brand new coil. I called Trane and reported this issue after the 2nd coil failure, surprisingly the customer service guy named Alex offered me $67 to help me pay the repair. I was amused!!! $67 to help pay the fix?! I felt kind of he was trying to close the case using a small quick amount of money to zip my mouth. Honestly speaking, I am a busy single mom, dont have interest and time to make money in this way. I never thought of the reimbursement until one of CS reps mentioned it. More important, I just wanted an explanation and apology, cause we stayed in FLs coldest winter time without heating for a week, and suffered another hot week in FL summer without cooling, within 5 months apart!!! This was really frustrating! More frustrating is because this unit is TRANE, a 5500 bucks durable product! After the explanation with Alex, he doubled the reimbursement to USD 114, then I mentioned the first time coil failure, he doubled the amount again!!! I was totally confused again! I asked whats their reimbursement standard. He said they didnt even have it! So I requested to talk to his supervisor. The lady named Sylvia ** called me back a couple of days later, and blamed me I didnt do maintenance job before. I had another leaking fix for this AC unit in 2014, paid 75 bucks to repair it. It might make sense so I decided to took the responsibility for the first Coil Leaking failure in Jan 2017. However she still couldnt explain the second coil failure, continued to blame me its my fault. She did not apologize, instead denied this is a defective product and argued the product had no problem, even after she talked to my installer, who has 30 years AC experience and addressed the defect issue. The lady was rude, lacked CS skills. She refused to give me an apology from the beginning, really made me concerned TRANEs customer service. I requested her supervisors contact, she argued she had not, the letter if I wrote, would come to her any way! If I didnt agree on the offer, she would withdraw the offer and close my case!!! What a threatening CS rep!!! Anyway, I had no choice and accepted their USD 217 offer, however I would not trust TRANE, claimed to be the most RELIABLE AMERICAN product any more!!!

The air conditioner is service checked once a year and has never failed once. The furnace has had the blower clutch go after about 13 years and start capacitor went after about 14 years. Very minor repairs with not one electrical or major mechanical failure on either. Getting a good contractor for installation is essential. Expensive junk- deceptive customer service. We had a split system installed in our sunroom as part of a major home renovation project. The unit functioned erratically the whole time. We were told by the contractor that it was to be expected or maybe we were not using it right. Last December, 14 months later, the condenser died due to condensation turning it into a solid block of ice. We contacted a Trane certified repair company and found out our product has not been registered for the three year warranty, and the one year basic warranty had expired.I contacted Trane, to explain that my husband and I were not at fault for this, and asked them to stand behind their product and help us out. I wasnt expecting a full replacement or even 100% part replacement, but at least 50%. Their response after almost two months of back and forth, providing all sorts of information and getting transferred to three tiers of customer service levels, was to offer us 15% off a new unit. $315 for a $2200 installation! So much for standing behind their products! I guess I should have checked this site first and noted the one star rating! The only reason I gave it two stars is because I believe three out of the four CS reps truly tried to help, but it came down to the Escalation Specialists who dropped the hammer on my hopes for a decent resolution.

After having over a hundred TRANE HVAC units installed by ZIRO and distributed by TERMO SERVIS, we had to replace all these rusted units (see attached photos) that were manufactured by Ingersoll Rands Kolin, Czech Republic manufacturing facility. These TRANE units were examined by a court-appointed expert who concluded that the manufacturer Ingersoll Rand used inferior quality materials in the manufacturing process. After only a total of less than 20 months of cooling activity, we had to replace completely over a hundred TRANE HVAC units due to corrosion. The most disappointing part of this entire process was that nobody from Ziro, Termo Servis, Trane nor Ingersoll Rand contacted us to find a solution to this serious problem. Even after receiving the report from the court-appointed expert, none of the above-mentioned companies (Ziro/Termo Servis/Trane/Ingersoll Rand) contacted us. Definitely zero quality and evidence that it doesnt take much to stop a TRANE.

Trane heat pump - I purchased this unit from Sears with Sears extended warranty. I dont have all the detailed paperwork at the moment. However, I had several repairs over the years and those were done satisfactorily through Sears. However, the last repair was the compressor. This was approx. one month prior to the warranty expiring. Unit was 10 years old. After struggling with Sears, the unit was finally repaired. However, now one year later, the compressor has now failed again. Since it is past my warranty, I am going to buy a new unit.I had to go pick up my parts - I missed l/2 day of work with no pay to do this. They would not come to my house on Fridays which is my day off. The first visit, there was no repair. The second time they were scheduled to come, they did not show up. And the parts did not show up since I had to meet a truck to pick up my parts. It took me like two months and several calls to Sears to get this repair. When the tech finally came to my house, he was late, lost and there was a thunderstorm in the area (afraid of the bad weather); therefore he did the repair in a haste. All in all, it was a very annoying experience and cost me lost time from work, etc. Im not sure if this complaint is against Sears or Trane, but they work in coordination so both companies are at fault.I have given up and will buy a new unit from more competent companies. In the meantime, I suffer in the heat again this summer just like last summer.

I purchased a home in September 2012 and learned that the A/C unit was not working (found out on the day I closed). I advised seller that I would not move forward with purchase if I had to replace a major appliance like an A/C unit. Seller agreed to replace and I agreed to replace furnace portion of package to avoid a greater cost should the furnace not work. I started noticing the A/C heating up at certain parts of the day and thought I needed to readjust thermostat. After several days of increasing temperatures during the day I decided to call a service technician only to learn that I had no refrigerant in my system. Further investigation showed a leak in the coil. I called the company who installed and they said the part was no longer under warranty and that the warranty was only for 1 year. I decided to call the service technician back and advised him what the installing company said and he advised me that the part that is not working is under warranty and that Trane is aware of the defect with the type coils they use. So the part was definitely under warranty. It turns out that the Tech was correct and Trane provided the coil at no charge, however, I was stuck with a $575.00 labor charge for a unit that is only 2 years, 10 months old. While I am pleased with the work that the Tech did on the unit and how quickly he came to repair and how thoroughly he cleaned up the area after he completed the work, I immediately changed my servicing company. If Trane is aware of this defect, why are they allowed to keep selling a piece of equipment (part) that is obviously defective when they know it is going to fail? While they do not make money off selling the part it still costs consumers labor cost - in my case, $575.00. My dissatisfied rating is because Trane knowingly sells this defective merchandise that would cost consumers huge labor costs in such a short time. How can they do this?

We own a 5 year old Trane HVAC system that came with a 10 year warranty. It just required a $1400 repair which the repair technician indicated was a design flaw/manufacturer defect. I created a case with Trane requesting reimbursement and their response was a quite dismissive form letter denying any responsibility for their faulty system. Check out their Facebook page before purchasing a Trane product. Its FULL of similar complaints from other disgruntled consumers. I intend to file more formal complaints.

We have a unit that was installed in 2005 to cool one section of our home by the prior owners and since buying the home in 2012, the unit has been weak but never failed to cool, just took a long time. As the home is large and has a large 2 story foyer, we thought it was the physics of cooling a space that was too large for the HVAC alignment in the home. Well, finally it stopped cooling a couple of days ago and..... it needs a new valve and new coil. Valve is leaking oil and we cannot adequately gauge how much oil is left in the coil so that may have to be replaced as well and at less than 8 years of age, that is really ridiculous - 3200 on a unit that is less than 8 yrs old and cost 7500 new. Most cars are better than this! Of course, not covered by the sham of a warranty they offer (allegedly 10 years but really just 5 years on almost anything that costs money to repair), and their service line was a complete joke.We went with a local, and reputable, HVAC company and the tech we got to come out said he was shocked how quickly the unit failed. After reading all the reviews on here, I am not shocked at all - Trane makes junk products and does not back them up with adequate warranties. Bottom line - we will be purchasing a Lennox or other brand unit next time. Trane will not be getting any patronage from our home again. Fortunately for our neighbors, they heard our troubles and cancelled an order with Home Depot for 4 Trane units and bought another brand. They are thankful we shared this information with them. If I have it my way, our whole neighborhood will avoid Trane.

I purchased a new air conditioner to replace a 18 year old one. They basically sold me a defective XL 15i. As soon as the tech started up the new unit I asked him why it shook so much. He said that is because Trane went to a 2 blade fan in it. I said that appears to be a stupid decision. For the next 3 years I had to keep tightening screws on it because it would squeak horribly and my neighbors would hear it. So I finally called the installers to have them check it out. After taking it apart they noticed that the fan blade was bent! There is NO way it bent on its own underneath the cover so I know it was that way from the beginning. They said since I did not get the extended warranty it would cost 400 dollars to get a new blade. I said it was like that from the day they installed it. They did not care. I called trane and they said since I did not get the extended warranty it was not covered. I said, Wait a minute, you sold me a defective air conditioner and you will not stand behind.. They said, NO.. So I am done with trane. Had to replace my trane furnace a few years back, went with Lennox!!

Purchased the new heat pump in 2014. It replaced a 25+ year old YORK system. Within a year the condenser developed a violent shaking and rattling during a storm. We called an American Standard recommended technician in our area and he said unit developed a leak. We got it fixed at our cost of $600. The unit also has a musty odor called stinky sock smell occasionally when we turn it on...It is disgusting so we installed an ultraviolet light again at our cost....Needless to say our other heater never had any shaking or smells. We contacted American Standard to try to figure out what the problem was with the shaking and smell. We got no answers and told us parts were under warranty but not labor... In 2019 the compressor failed, we replaced that to the tune of 1700 labor costs. A month later another part inside. Within a week a reverse coil part failed. WE contacted American Standard/TRANE to file a complaint regarding the unit and our costs to replace parts. We have maintained the unit and sent a 40 page pdf of a history of maintenance and repairs. So far there has been no response even though we have called several times to find out about our case. Lesson learned. Do not buy a new American Standard/Trane hvac.

Trane XL14i heat pump installed by another contractor the building used when my home was built in 2007. Noisy. Changed service companies and they immediately fixed the problem. 16 round was reduced to 10 inch round and was starving the unit. Also added a second cold air return. Unit runs flawlessly (has an XL90 gas furnace attached). No problems at all. This is my second Trane and incidentally, the first was installed by Capital heating and Air. Great company. It really is all about the install.

A well respected HVAC installer turned on our Trane Heat Pump for the first time today, Nov. 16, 2012, as our new home was being completed. Within 15 minutes, it exploded and caught fire and if our contractor had left 5 minutes earlier, our home would have burned to the ground. Fortunately, he was able to put out the fire, but within minutes it would have been out of control. This evening we read reviews of Trane Heat Pumps that consistently complain of poor service, poor quality, numerous repairs, even a report of one previous fire. It appears that this company is doing nothing to stand behind their products and correct serious problems.

Trane dealer installed a new Trane heat pump system in Summer 2016. I regret I did not read the reviews online. The system started having problems in winter 2018. Dealer checked it and said the heater in air handler was broken and needed replacement. Then defrost board and fan motor in heat pump were found broken. The condenser coil could also be leaking. I was shocked by all these major issues. Dealer just told me I was unlucky to get a bad system. I was asked to pay about $900 labor fee since only parts are under warranty. In addition, there could be other issues since testing could not be done without replacing the parts. So whole system is a junk. I complained to dealer manager, then to Trane customer service, then escalated to supervisor. I sent them all the documents they asked for, but never heard from them. Whenever I called them, I was transferred many times and held for one hour, but nothing was done. I emailed them many times, but no reply. People working at Trane just don’t care. Do not buy Trane products, because you will regret.

We have 11 Trane furnaces installed in a house built 7 years ago. We have replaced 5 evaporator coils and now have another one we have to replace. The excuse we hear is that this was a manufacturing problem where copper was used instead of aluminum. There are tons of problems itemized on the internet related to quality problems. Every time we replace one, it costs $1,300 and all we get are excuses. Ill tell whoever will listen that they should not buy Trane products. I have never had a problem with any furnaces in any home we have ever lived in, which has been two previous homes (one for 10 years and another for 27 years). No interest from anyone from Trane to provide any assistance or demonstrate any interest in helping to reduce the cost and accept responsibility for faulty engineering design. Im actually surprised that there has not been a class action lawsuit filed since it is common knowledge that there was a major engineering design flaw.

All dates are estimated. Back in 2009, we had Vailes install a new Trane Heat Pump (outside unit and Air-handler in attic) along with all new flex duct work. After a full summer of running the unit - the dirty-sock syndrome smell came about in our upstairs. We called Vailes and they brought their Trane Rep, Ken **, out to investigate. He tweaked some of the duct work and airflow (speeds) on the air handler and also coated the coils so that it would not make that smell. He also redesigned the ramp so that water would not flow over the ramp...Everything seemed okay - until we had a Mold specialist check out our entire house. He found Mold in the Trane air handler and in the duct work. He found no other issues with the house. We contacted Vailes and shared the Mold report with them. They came out and looked and took pictures to share with their Trane Rep (Ken ** out of Richmond). They came back with a solution of cleaning out the air handler for estimated $500.00 and installing a UV light for another $1,000.00. I replied back with the following request to Vailes: Our game plan is to counter with: to have a Trane Rep come out and look at the situation. Possible solutions: Air flow is set incorrectly (after talking with other large heating and cooling companies). Another red flag: Having 3-4 degree variances in rooms upstairs. Some rooms have an extreme blast of air flow (especially in the winter). Our home was inspected by a professional environmental technician and the house is clean. The only issue is the air-handler in the attic. After discussing this situation further with my wife, father, Riddlebarger, and Landis Heating, they all suggested that Trane should come out and redo/check the air flow. They also think it could be a potential trunk issue as well. I was going to have my wife run with this but I dont want to add anything else to her plate. Will you please contact Trane again with our circumstance? We need to fix the issue and I would like for Trane to be there.Vailes shared this request with Ken ** (Trane Rep in Richmond) and Ken replied back to me with the following: The mold that is growing in the home is a product of the environment that the equipment is in. The Trane (or any other brand equipment) does not produce the bacteria; it already exists in the structure. The effort that needs to be put in is to address the source of bacteria whether it is infiltrating form the crawlspace, attic, basement, windows, fireplace, sewer system, or from the people that live in the house. The bacteria growing in the AHU is happening because it is a nice environment for it to grow (warm and moist) depending on the season but it is not the source. There is nothing that Trane can do to address the structure or the infiltration to the home. Vailes has made some suggestions about accessories that can be added to a system to help manage the bacteria (UV lights, and electronic air filters); these may help reduce the potential for growth in the unit but the bacteria will still be in the home.I was not satisfied with his response so I brought in several other HVAC dealers to analyze the situation. They have all pointed to the duct work and airflow. I could get another HVAC dealer to redo all the duct work but that puts me in a major financial crisis. I feel like they (Vailes and the Trane Rep) should have looked at the situation closer. Obviously, they knew something was wrong from the start when they coated the coils and redid the airflow and ramp shortly after it was installed. I feel like the coated coils only masked the issue. For some reason, we are getting mold in the air handler. Any suggestions? One particular HVAC dealer said that he firmly thinks it is the duct work - because the duct work going to the returns are the biggest he has ever seen on a ton 1/2 unit. He also said there is no trunk line (all lines are coming straight out of the small boxes on the air handler...). Hearing from 4 other HVAC dealer that they think it is the duct work - tells me something. I am meeting with two other HVAC dealers this week as well to see what they think. But it is very disappointing having to go to other dealers to fix this problem. We turned the unit off once the mold was found (back in April). I have a wife and 4 children and need to place some urgency on this.

Have had issues with indoor air handler letting condensate water run in our house. Had been worked on more than 6 times by two different certified installers and a Trane representative has been out as well. The original installer walked away and wouldn’t honor warranty or extended warranty that had been purchased. Had to pay out of pocket a second installer to come fix the issue which returned the following the summer again.

I have been experiencing continual compressor failures with one of the four Trane units at my AZ home. Trane warranties the parts but not the labor, which is costing me a fortune (4-5 hours every time). The compressor that blew 8/1/13 was replaced in 2012 and new in Oct. 2004. Seems like Trane should bring me a whole new machine and cut their losses too. I am very unhappy with Trane and their support. Their products for HVAC dont hold up in AZ, and I will replace my units with another company as they continue to fail. Buyer beware!!!

I bought this unit from an online dealer. Had it installed by a licensed technician. Ran great for 3 days. In heat mode the coil caused the electrical panel to condensate, shorting out the control panel. Trane says because it was not installed by one of their DEALERS the warranty was null and void. I am very dissatisfied with this product and will tell everyone I know how Trane will not address the problems with their design flaws.

I purchased a 1-1/2 ton and a 5 ton Trane model 4ttR HVAC condenser and air handler, in November 2011 for my 2-zone Florida home. The units have functioned free of significant problems until about 2 weeks ago (Nov 2015) when the smaller unit burned out the fan motor, and then a week later when the compressor in the 5 ton unit suffered a leak. Both parts were replaced under the manufacturer 10-year parts warranty -- but watch out, because the light you see at the end of the tunnel is another train -- being the labor costs which exceeded $1,000 combined. This is an out-of-pocket expense not covered by the parts warranty. Though I am grateful for the parts warranty, having to spend this much on labor costs to repair 2 separate units that are only 4 years old, is simply not something I would have expected from a product advertised to be built like a train. I paid almost $9,000 for the new units before applying the state energy rebates, and for this price I think I had a right to expect they would operate, free of major malfunction for at least 5 - 7 years before needing major parts replacements. At this rate, I am very concerned that the units wont ever make it to 10 years before they completely fall apart. These Trane units replaced an older model (different manufacturer) that lasted about 16 years. When the time comes to replace it, you can be sure I wont be riding with this Trane again.P.S. -- I asked my installer if they could contact Trane on my behalf for some dispensation, and they politely said they would never get anywhere with that since they are a dealer; instead they suggested that I, as the end-user/consumer contact Trane directly to see if they might assist with some of the labor costs -- after all, mine was not an isolated instance of one bad unit, but rather two units suffering major parts failures within a couple of weeks of each other; however after reading reviews of other folks who had contacted Trane, it seemed very much like it would be a waste of my time, particularly in view of the reaction I got from my dealer, so I chose to just suck it up. But neither will I be a repeat buyer when the time comes. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
