Goodman Heat Pump Model GVZC20

Split GVZC20

The Goodman Split GVZC20 Heat Pump is a high-efficiency heat pump system designed to provide both heating and cooling capabilities for residential or light commercial applications. Here are some key features and information about the Goodman Split GVZC20 Heat Pump:

High-Efficiency Performance: The Goodman GVZC20 Heat Pump is known for its high energy efficiency. It features a variable-speed compressor that adjusts its speed based on the heating or cooling demands, providing precise temperature control and maximizing energy savings. The heat pump typically achieves a high SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating for cooling efficiency and an HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) rating for heating efficiency.

Quiet Operation: The GVZC20 Heat Pump is designed for quiet operation, thanks to its variable-speed compressor and advanced sound-dampening technology. The heat pump operates at lower speeds most of the time, resulting in reduced noise levels compared to traditional fixed-speed systems.

ComfortBridge Technology: The ComfortBridge technology is integrated into the GVZC20 Heat Pump. This technology allows the heat pump to communicate and coordinate with other components of the HVAC system, such as thermostats and air handlers. It optimizes performance, enhances efficiency, and provides advanced diagnostics for easier troubleshooting.

Two-Stage Operation: The GVZC20 Heat Pump offers two-stage heating and cooling, allowing for more precise temperature control and improved comfort. The heat pump can operate at a lower capacity for milder conditions and switch to full capacity during extreme temperatures, ensuring efficient operation and consistent comfort levels.

Compatibility with Smart Thermostats: The GVZC20 Heat Pump is compatible with smart thermostats, enabling remote control and programming capabilities. Smart thermostats allow you to adjust settings, create schedules, and monitor energy usage from your smartphone or other connected devices.

Environmentally Friendly Refrigerant: The GVZC20 Heat Pump utilizes environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant, which has a lower impact on the ozone layer compared to older refrigerants.

Limited Warranty: Goodman typically offers a limited warranty on their heat pumps, including the GVZC20 model. The warranty coverage may vary depending on the specific terms and conditions set by Goodman. It is important to review the warranty documentation to understand the coverage and duration of the warranty.

As with any HVAC system, proper installation, regular maintenance, and adherence to manufacturer guidelines are essential to ensure optimal performance and longevity. It is recommended to consult with HVAC professionals or authorized Goodman dealers for specific details, pricing, and installation requirements for the Goodman Split GVZC20 Heat Pump.

E0: This error code indicates a communication problem between the thermostat and the control board. It could be due to a wiring issue or a faulty thermostat.

E1: This code usually indicates a problem with the indoor blower motor or the control board. It may require professional service to diagnose and fix the issue.

E2: This error code typically points to a problem with the outdoor coil temperature sensor. It could be due to a faulty sensor or a wiring issue.

E3: This code indicates an issue with the indoor coil temperature sensor. It may be caused by a faulty sensor or a wiring problem.

E4: This error code indicates a high-pressure protection fault. It could be due to a refrigerant overcharge, a blockage in the refrigerant lines, or a problem with the outdoor fan motor.

E5: This code typically indicates a low-pressure protection fault. It could be caused by a refrigerant leak, a restriction in the refrigerant lines, or a problem with the outdoor fan motor.

These are just a few examples of common error codes for Goodman heat pumps. Since we had our 2 Goodman air conditioners installed we have had nothing but troubles. 4 times now the coil in one or both have had to be replaced at approx. $583.00 each. Then a small part on the compressor failed to the tune of $1200.00. Now the compressor itself failed and we are waiting on a quote to get it replaced. Keep in mind this is all labor only as the units are still under warranty for parts. The math is simple, more than $3000.00 and counting to constantly repair these units. They are garbage. The Goodman AC company should STOP producing ACs immediately. They are faulty. I will be contacting a lawyer.

I closed on my home May 2014 and purchased your product Model: GSZ13421AG Serial:1403135510. This product is almost new and only 2 years old. It has been determined that it has a faulty piece. I feel as if I have no recourse and am stuck with this faulty product. The air conditioner is defectively designed and cracked resulting in it leaking refrigerant, thus making my unit entirely inoperable unless I pay 750.00 total. As a result, my electric bill has increased because while the unit was leaking, it required more power for adequate cooking. Because the leakage of the refrigerant from the evaporator coil left my unit completely ineffective, I am forced to pay 750.00 in total repairs to address the problem fully which will take 2 weeks.Worse, today I had to pay 79.00 for a leak search out of my pocket to determine why your product is not functioning as promised by your company. I had to pay 75.00 for the visit and 190.00 for refrigerant. Worse, I have to pay 425.00 in labor next week to have your item repaired, the bill is at 750.00 plus at this point. I am outraged. This is ridiculous. Im told that it is tough and I should pay or my house will be hot.

Evaporator coil went bad after 3.5 years (known issue) with Goodman search the web for complaints. I have a 10 year warranty after fighting with Goodman on registering the unit for a new house. My HVAC guy files for warranty. The approval took a week then it took Goodman another week to inform as to COVID19 we are backed logged and dont know when the part will be in stock.Given the amount of people who have the same issue with Goodman one would expect Goodman to have this part in the warehouses. Sadly no warehouses have the part and what was in stock as to the known issue with summer starting those in stock were taken. I have never seen an HVAC system have this issues after 3.5 years. My parents had an Amana hvac from 1980s which was replaced in 1999 that ran with no issues which came with the house. After my 10 year warranty now 7 years left is done if I have issues I will get a Trane with spending the extra money so I do not have to worry about odd issues occurring.

On 6/7/19, my 11 year old Goodman Furnace had a near catastrophic overheating which melted the main control board and ruined the entire interior of the furnace with a putrid smelling black carbon dust. After sending photographs and a detailed report from the professional installer, who has only seen such a near fire twice in his 30 year career, I was told by Senior Management, “There is nothing we can do since you are 12 months out of warranty”!After discovering that Goodman had underreported major fire issues with other products in the past and was fined by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, I have decided that I want nothing to do with this company and their utter dismissal of my complaint and request for some assistance with a completely unreasonable $4,000 expense. This highly dangerous and unusual failure of a product without any company empathy or concern, after a vigorous outreach on my part, warrants this review and a refusal for anyone who is considering putting their lives in this company’s hands, to enrich this multi-billion dollar company any further.

I purchased a Goodman ductless mini split heat pump. It was installed by a professional installer. The compressor stopped working after about 5 years and 2 months. Assuming the unit had a 10 year warranty, I contacted the company. Upon doing so, the customer seemed to enjoy telling me that the unit only had a 5 year warranty. I then attempted to contact a company to repair the unit, and found it difficult to find a company that worked on the Goodman brand. I was advised that Goodman was not a good unit and it would be less expensive to replace it with a Mitsubishi unit, which I intend to do. I will never do business with Goodman again.

If I could rebuild my house and choose a better heating system - I would. Goodman is absolutely terrible! Had our home for 3 years and had 3 major repairs done on the unit. Whats really frustrating is the lack of parts. Whoopie - the parts are under warranty. However, labor is still outrageous and it take 3 - 5 weeks to get the part! Unexplainable! This has happened 3 different times now. It is now 16 degrees outside and we have been without a heater for 3 weeks. This type of support - or lack of support is criminal!

AC heater air handler unit - When installed my house flooded. Phoned the installer, I did everything correctly. Phoned Goodman company, was told if I can wait a month they will send someone to look at it. This is right after installation. They said he did not unplug something so it was emptying in the house - my house is carpeted, its in the kitchen/dining room, living room and passageway to the bedrooms dripping wet. He came, said it was fixed. Used it for a month, and it was not used for 2 years. Now its flooding again and its freezing up above the filter. Turned off for a week and tried again - frozen. Thawed it out and just turned it off. This unit is a piece of crap and Goodman should be closed. I had a Trane for 20 years no problem and lightning hit the compressor. So after him pressuring me to change the unit for nearly $4,000 dollars, I got ripped off. Wish I had all the information on this unit but its mislaid. Will try and locate.

I bought a Goodman heat pump model GsZ160361bd, serial no 1903096018 brand new and had it installed by a “license technician“. The unit broke in less than 18 months and required repairs that cost me approximately $1600 in labor. The part were covered by the manufacturer. But no customer should have to spend that much money on a heat pump that was purchased new. I believe Goodman Manufacturing has junk heat pumps and I recommend anyone looking to buy a new unit to look at the other manufacturer. Also make sure it is a sister brand name to Goodman. The customer support is of no use to the customer who purchased their product. All you get is scripted reply to call a license contract to fix their junk product! At your own cost! This is a real experience. Do not buy!

We purchased and registered our 3.5 ton 14 seer package unit heat pump in June 2016. Oct 2016 our air stops cooling. We call the HVAC installers and they come out and the coil is leaking. We had to have freon and are now waiting on the new coil to be delivered. A new heat pump should last more than 3 months. We will be out labor cost and cost of freon. Since Goodman knows that this is an issue they should be bending over backwards to cover all cost associated with the coils.

Brand new system has had problems from the start. Multiple repairs have been attempted to remedy an unacceptable noise. Still sounds like a washing machine on spin cycle, which everyone agrees is unacceptable, but nobody can diagnose or fix. Further, the unit leaks a rusty fluid into the pan, and there is condensation/corrosion in the supply plenum which the installer said should never leak.

Im a lic a/c contractor in Florida. Sold many many systems for over a decade. I stopped selling this product or Amana which is a Goodman air handler with a Amana sticker. They have become a nightmare for me and my customers. Since 08 I can not believe how many leaking coils and replacement coils with same problem a year later. They used to make a decent affordable reliable unit. They have made for many upset customers with constant breakdowns and costly repairs. They are now owned by I believe a Chinese company and like everything from China is pure **. A good warranty is their selling point but when a leaking coil cost 800 in labor and gas and goes bad year after year it means nothing. Dont let any contractor talk you into it. Its cheaper for a reason. Decade old contractor that now wouldnt put a goodman a/c in my enemys house. Unreliable cheap Chinese crap. Buy American.

I purchased this unit from a local contractor and have had 3 problems with it since installation. I had installer fix the first issue which he told me they would not charge me for. Unit was installed horizontally in attic and installers didnt know that when unit is installed this way condensation builds up in tube which wont allow heat to start up.Their employees are totally incompetent since they never glued PVC vent and exhaust piping through roof. Primed but never glued. Stick a piece of pipe in and thats done. Crooked coming out the roof, which I had to have repaired with the unglued pieces of pipe. Im afraid to check and see if they at least glued the pipe that holds condensation as that will eventually leak in time if that was also improperly installed. Now I had to have flame sensor replaced and unit is only 3 years old. Goodbye to Mensers Heating and Cooling and Goodman products.

Ive never had so many problems with a furnace in my life. I have a Goodman furnace with a Goodman heat pump. I think it was a real shabby install. Even though the problems may all be related to his install, he wants paid for the service call plus mileage each time. His business is in Miles City, Montana, that is 75 miles from here. I think they should have to replace the heat pump because of the many times it has cycled trying to start. It should be worn out by now. The last time they put in the wrong freon. I wonder what damage it is doing to the rest of the appliances. Every time it cycles it draws current away from my well pump, refrigerator, etc.

Heat pump 4 years old - spent 2500$ in repairs already. The very first year, we had to replace the condenser, the second year, the coils, the third year we have had to replace the tubing soldering. The parts are warranty but the labor is not, it has costs us 800 to 900 dollars a year. We have called Goodman and they say, the parts are under warranty but we are responsible for the labor to repair these parts. I have asked that extend our warranty or replace the unit. I can get no help. There is no logical reason for the major items in a brand new unit purchased in 2013 have so many bad parts. Customer service is HORRIBLE, no help at all. I have a Goodman heat pump that was installed in Dec 2009. It started leaking freon last year. Just 2 pounds. This year it started freezing up. Guess what? Needs more freon and r22 is high. Just found out r22 production will cease in 2016. This unit is leaking like crazy. Called Goodman. They say my unit is out of warranty because it wasnt registered in first 60 days. What? Is this a gimmick? Thought it came with a 10-year warranty. Seems like a easy way for them to get out of warranty for their products.Ive had cheap Walmart window units last longer than this piece of junk and way cheaper. I found a new a-coil for sale on internet for 500 bucks but found out it might leak when installed new. The a/c company said they would install one for 1500$. Are you kidding. This unit is out of warranty 6 months. Would have been better off paying extra for something better. Overall this will cost me much more in the long run. Goodman customer service is terrible as the guy there just kept saying to call one of their dealers. In my opinion Goodman needs to go out of business or do whats right and fix these faulty units.

I bought my house in 2014 in South Florida. The house was brand new construction and very well built. It has all impact windows and doors, along with plenty of insulation. The biggest mistake however was that the builder installed a GOODMAN manufacturing HVAC system. The system is sized well within Florida code and worked fine the first year. However, the second year things quickly went downhill during the summer of 2016 when the condenser motor went out in the unit - only to be followed by the coils leaking 4 months later. As of this summer 2017 the unit has gone out again and was completely out for 2 WEEKS!!! I set the unit to 74 and it runs all day even though the house is 85 degrees inside. I have had 4 different HVAC companies come out and try to diagnose my problem. I have had 7 techs from 4 different companies completely disassemble my unit trying to find the problem. They have checked all the ducting and checked my homes structure for leaks, to no avail. All 4 companies have told me that they believe that the unit is defective and ALL has NOTHING positive to say about the company and all these companies refuse to even do business with GOODMAN (for obvious reasons). That Goodman is one of the cheapest units you can buy and has the most problems! They all recommended that I Bite the Bullet and replace the 3 year old unit, after I have dumped $1400 into it. When I contacted Goodman Manufacturing, an American made Company out of TEXAS. I was told by a supervisor after explaining my situation, that there was nothing they could do to help me out, despite there being a 10 year warranty on the unit. The incompetent employee I spoke to from GOODMAN told me that my unit was fine and didnt see a reason for them to have to replace it. For a companys motto to be, At Goodman we believe in American Dependability. Units are designed, engineered and assembled in the U.S.A. to tell a customer that theres nothing you can do is appalling. Goodman Units are nothing more than the lowest quality TRASH - Made from defective parts in China and Mexico, shipped to the U.S and then assembled by migrate workers. Their whole American Made motto is **.Goodman Manufacturing and its management are no better than All Talk No Action Politicians! I hope Trump builds that WALL and taxes your defective parts coming into the U.S so much you go bankrupt!!! It is safe to say that I have thrown out my garbage known as Goodman and Switched to a much more dependable A/C unit.As for anyone thinking about buying a Goodman A/C unit dont!!! For anyone thinking about replacing their existing unit or buying a house with a Goodman A/C be warned!!! It will cause you so much money, stress and headache when it goes out within 3 years. You will be HIT IN THE FACE with thousands of dollars in repair bills, only to dish out another several thousand dollars to replace it with another unit. I am so entirely dissatisfied with Goodman, their product as well as their employees. I wont even sell my old unit to anyone because I dont want them going through what I had to, down here during a HOT South Florida Summer. P.S.A.!!! To anyone purchasing a new HVAC unit. Spend the extra money upfront and buy something that will last you at least 10 years. DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM GOODMAN MANUFACTURING OR YOU WILL EAT THESE WORDS, THAT I CAN PROMISE YOU!

When this unit Goodman heat pump model GPH144841AC was about one year old it developed a major leak causing all the refrigerant to escape. It cost $500 to have someone repair the faulty factory solder joint and recharge it. Since I installed the unit myself Goodman will not honor any warranty. It is a self contained unit that I did not even open up so there was no way I could have damaged the inside of the unit. About two years later the main power relay failed and I had to replace it. This past Spring, 2017, I found it low on refrigerant and I added about 3 pounds and it worked correctly up until a few days ago even cycling off during some 28 degree weather (so it had refrigerant then). Yesterday I noticed it was running on emergency heat and checked it this morning. Not a pound of pressure. Apparently the small leak became a big leak. Again since it is a self contained unit it must be a factory fault. Im hoping it is something that can be easily fixed, but Im going to start saving for a replacement and it sure will not be a Goodman unit. They are junk.

A brand new Goodman/Amana A/C was installed in my home in 2011. The condenser coil leaked and had to be replaced in 2012. In 2014, coil leaked; it was patched and freon recharged. In 2015, freon leaked, was now attributed to the evaporator coil. In the four years since the new unit was installed, I have spent over $1000 for labor replacing BOTH coils and freon recharges. Basically, the product is a piece of junk and major parts need to be replaced - not anyone expects of a new equipment. Is there collusion between the manufacturer and the A/C service provider: one sells product that should be pulled from the market, the other recommend the product and makes money by labor charges?

I called Goodman and verbally gave them the serial numbers of both units and I also sent in the warranty card as well. 2013 unit started leaking freon so I had it topped off and the unit ran fine. 2015 leaks got worse so I called Goodman and they stated I sent in the warranty card 05/15/09? Data input error perhaps or did this happen when they cut over to a new system? Found out they did put in a new system but dont know when.Spoke to a male CSR rude and abrasive refused to let me talk to a supervisor but finally caved in. Spoke to Hema and she stated they had the serial # for the heat pump but no air handler so no warranty on the handler. Told her I called and mailed in the warranty card then was told they do the data input and then the cards are thrown away. My word against theirs? I thought the customers was always right? So much for that theory! I have called several times after that, no return calls. Theres a surprise! Although Hema was helpful but still no warranty.I like the unit and have very little problems with it until the leak, and now the warranty. What is the point of having a warranty and then not to honor it? So now they think I will get stuck with the bill... wrong! Got things to do and people to speak to about the warranty issue. This is just bad P/R on their behalf and I am sorry they are taking that stand. Will I buy another Goodman unit? Maybe not because of this warranty issue.

When we built a new house it came with a Goodman unit. Less than two years and the house is not cooling during the summer months in Arizona. A tech has been out 6 times already to change our compressor and TX valve and its still not working. At this point I dont know what to do. Very upset that a brand new HVAC unit already failed.

We built a new house and the builder installed an Amana heat pump through one of his subcontractors. The Amana contractor/installer did not register the product, nor were we advised that registration on our part was required. We have all documentation of the purchase. A part in the heat pump failed and Amana (Goodman Manufacturing) would NOT stand by the warranty, because we had not formally registered the product with them. Amana (Goodman Manufacturing) would not accept the paid invoices to the builder as proof of purchase. This is very shabby business practice and the manufacturers way of legally not honoring the warranty. I contacted Julicia ** at Amana (Goodman Manufacturing), and she was rigid/inflexible re: my issue.

4 years ago I had both inside and outside units replaced for peace of mind
4 years ago I had both inside and outside units replaced for peace of mind at retirement. Outside unit is a Goodman 4 ton and inside is a Miller furnace in a Modular home. This unit for 4 years has blown water into the plenum and soaked it so bad, I am sure it needs full replacement now. Then 4 years in a row the fine Goodman outside unit has failed in midsummer and is down again right now. It has had coils replaced and compressors replaced and is still under warranty, but when ac repair crew gets out here again maybe Tuesday, I am going to cut my losses and have this junk removed from my sight. It is still under warranty, but I see no reason to keep this unit in service. Right now I think it is the compressor out again, that will be number 3. This needs to be completely removed and everything repaired under furnace to stop water and mold. Cant believe they can sell such poor equipment to people in this country. I will now being retired have to buy and pay for install of another unit and they can take this Goodman with its warranty to the landfill site. DO NOT BUY A GOODMAN UNIT, UNLESS YOU WANT CONSTANT REPAIRS AND EXPENSE ON YOUR PART.

After only 2 years, the 3 ton a/c and heating unit needed service and Freon added. Now, after only 10 months, the unit once again is not cooling. The initial diagnosis was that it needed more freon, not it needs a new condenser. I will never, ever buy another Goodman and if you are smart, neither should you. A $4000 unit should at least give you carefree service for 5 years more. I am going to contact Goodman and see what they have to offer.

Purchased a Goodman furnace in January 2010 from a building supply company in Steinbach which is about 20 mins out of Winnipeg. I liked the fact that Goodman was offering a 10 year warranty on the parts and 10 year full replacement. We have had nothing but issues with the unit every winter and always seems to be the same issues - a circuit board, sensors, condensation build up and the motor. I had their Goodman account manager in my home last year after I said I wanted the unit out of our house, was told he was going speak to his superior to make sure I was satisfied Toronto and get back to me, that never happened. I never write reviews about products but the word needs to get out that the furnace is not reliable. If you live in area which only requires your furnace periodically then maybe its fine but not in a Canadian climate.

We purchased a new Goodman heat pump and new furnace. We have had nothing but TROUBLE from the heat pump. Faulty parts and leaking freon. It is costly to have to keep fixing a NEW heat pump. I wish I still had my old one but we were told we had to let them have our old system??? For what it cost to repair this NEW heat pump you could just purchase a NEW heat pump. This is crazy. Other heat pumps last for 20 years or more with no problems? I give up on Goodman heat pumps.

I purchased a 16 seer Variable speed 2 stage 3 ton heat pump with a AVPTC air handler. The unit was purchased and installed on 1/13/2012. Almost immediately the problems started. Goodman replaced the variable speed motor in the air handler along with the circuit board. I then started having problems with the heat pump in the winter months kicking out on the high head pressure limit. After many calls to Goodman, they sent a factory Rep from Iowa along with a rep. from Lute Supply where the unit was purchased. The rep found a short in the high pressure limit, a Hard start was added to the heat pump and the unit worked fine for about 6 months. At this point I have $750.00 invested in service calls. The unit failed again in August 2016. Service was called again and the run capacitor was replaced. Service call $313.00. The unit ran fine until 10/25/17 when the heat pump stopped. Service was again called and I was told the unit is leaking and coil needs replaced. I have 13 service calls on this unit at a cost of $1800.00. The unit is coming out, I would never recommend Goodman products.

Model ARUF486016BA Air handler. In this blog, I am not suggesting that you have to buy the very best and most expensive air-conditioner on the market, but just beware of doing business with Goodman. All of us who have owned homes and had to incur the expense of a new heat near unit are typically replacing units that are 15 to 20 years old not 7. I bought the Goodman 4 ton heat pump in early 2008. In 2010 I had a refrigerant leak so I called my repair company and they informed me that the evaporator coil which is the main coil in the air handler was bad and had a leak. He informed me then, that this was a very common problem. He had the coil replaced under warranty which I was shocked he did not cover the labor and $500 later my AC was working.About a year ago my AC wasnt cooling so I called the company and they came in and put some Freon and it and told me once again the coil was leaking. I asked them if they could get a hold of Goodman and/or the distributor to see if they would replace the old part once again they said no. I had them charge the unit up at $150 and it bought me another year. I just priced repairing the unit and it will be approximately $1200. I figured I would call Goodman and see if they would potentially replace that product once again given the class-action suits that Ive seen on the Internet and unhappy customers all over the United States. I spoke to the first line of communications and she informed me know theres nothing we I can do and I should just replace the whole unit. My question of her was do you have $5000 to spend on a condition of your house?I spoke to a supervisor this morning and pleaded my case and she had the audacity to say the evaporator coils may not have been installed properly or theyre not in a safe environment for our products. Really! The repair company that Ive been dealing with for so many years told me they havent sold Goodman products in a few years because of the problems they had. It is very interesting that pretty much the only AC units on eBay, Amazon, and Craigslist are Goodman units. I am going to replace my unit with another brand and one thing I learned is you dont have to spend top dollar on the unit, but to do have to do your diligence and feel comfortable with the manufacturer of the product. Shame on you Goodman Corporation for peddling that junk. No wonder there are class-action suits out there.

From day one I have hated this LOUD condenser. I trusted my HVAC contractor, who had worked on our home for 5+ years and that was a fatal mistake. We had a York AC unit that was great but when it leaked he said he would replace it. He replaced it with a Goodman condenser and coil - I had no idea he would not be replacing it with another York system as he did not tell me he only installed Goodman units. The second it was installed it was LOUD inside our home. Amazingly enough, when I pointed it out to the installer/owner of the HVAC company he said, Does not sound loud to me. Hey, its not your house! Had the tech service guy come out from Goodman and he went through the entire condenser unit and in his report he said it was all great but it was loud inside the house but very quiet outside - so when the AC is running I would need to be outside - perfect. Pretty much my two+ months with customer service, their supervisor, the tech supervisor have been horrible and 10 years of this is just going to be a picnic. DO NOT BUY GOODMAN and do NOT ever trust your HVAC company to install anything without your permission.

We had a Goodman 3 Ton Unit replaced on 7/21/2015. It cooled all of about 1/2 day. Since it was installed in July during heatwave (94 for more than a week) we thought it was taking house time to cool and the air out of the vent felt marginally cooler than air temp., But we were delusional. The unit was blowing warm air. The installer came on 4 occasions. 1st time to remove Freon, 2nd time and third time diagnose system, 4th install indoor thermostat. Nothing. The unit blows cold air when the sun is down and as soon as the sun comes up fails and blows hot air. Miserable unit. Had a second HVAC person look at unit. Diagnosis, Condenser. To that I say, REALLY it’s not even installed a month??? My house is 80 +, I should not have to live in the heat with a brand new unit sitting outside my house. Today we are suppose to have our installer back to replace the condenser. If this does have the system up and running 24/7, my instructions are for him to remove the unit and install another brand more reputable such as Carrier, York, Trane. I did in depth research to find Goodmans are nothing but a ton of junk that really needs to be pulled off the market. Waste of everyones time and dollars. Furious.

Much review was done before purchase to make sure size was appropriate for home, etc. Never really feels like its heating or cooling properly. Numerous times per year it has required repair, run capacitor, defrost control board, blower motor, bad txv (whatever that is), bad reversing valve. Last week started making awful noise while running. Repairman said it needs new fan. And last night it started throwing the breaker at the heat pump. So tired of this piece of crap, would not recommend.

Bought Goodman. Never again. 2 burnt blower motors and now a defective evaporator coil and on top of that my installer said it’s all warrantied through Goodman for 10 years but now Goodman says they will not warranty the units for 10 years; only 5 because a form was not filed within 90 days from install. This is bull. It’s because they are in a class action lawsuit about having lot and lots of defective coils and so theyre trying to get out of covering their 10 year warranty on a technicality and because they know their stuff will only last for 5 year and now turning the blame on homeowners for their installing company negligence in not filing their paperwork timely by saying, Oh that’s the homeowners responsibility to file the warranty paperwork and if they don’t we will penalize them for our defective products.Let’s face it. Paperwork or not it should not affect the warranty. If their stuff was built right from the beginning and they felt a 10 year warranty was proper then filing a form should not matter. It does not change the MFG date or the install date or the way they make their products. They have not heard the last from me. This is just a start.Buy Trane not Goodman and save your self lots of headaches. Dealing with Goodman’s customers service is a joke just a headache. I’m not asking for labor charges or the 10 lbs of Freon that was lost due to their defective coils just to stand behind their 10 year policy and provide the parts to replace their known bad inferior parts for the 10 year period they promised. If youre looking for HVAC work do your homework. Check out the net for all the people having issues with Goodman then buy something else more reliable like American Standard or Trane. I wish I did.

I had an Amana 2 ton hvac gas pack for 18 years, never had a problem, never cleaned, never serviced. The unit had to be replaced in 2006 and was a problem from day one! The unit would not cool like the old one, the unit was supposed the same as I had before. I spent $3,900.00 in repairs with everything in the unit being replaced, including the compressor. Goodman did not offer any help! They even called one service technician and said I wasnt happy with him, when the fact of the matter was he could not figure out what was wrong! The unit would run continually all day long with the thermostat on 73 and the outside temp was 83 degrees! I have finally found that the original compressor was a 19000 BTUs and the sensible BTUs rating was rated at 18000, which several HVAC techs said that was a 1/2 ton difference and would not work! I just recently replaced with a Coleman and will not buy Goodman ever again!!! The last tech found the blower wheel was wobbly because of insulation, but said even replacing it would not solve the issue!

Do not buy!

In 2009, I built a new house and it was finished about August of 2010. I bought a Goodman whole home system, which had an air conditioning unit, a furnace, and the inside air conditioning unit in February of 2010. Since I have had it installed by professionals, I have had nothing but trouble. The outside air conditioning unit turns on very loud and when it gets to normal speed, the fan will jolt really hard and you will hear a really loud grinding noise. This has happened since about September of 2010. We have had 3 service calls out to our house and all of them said that it needed freon or there was a fan issue. We didnt have the money for them to take it apart and find something wrong to cost even more money, so we left it alone. It still does that grinding every time it runs. Then, yesterday (9/5/2015) the outside unit was making a weird noise and the inside unit was not blowing any air into the vents of the house. The inside unit was also make a whining sound, so I shut the whole system off and went back to check it out. The pipe that goes from the outside unit to the inside unit had ice build-up all over it. I let it thaw for an hour and turned it on again to see what it would do. The outside unit will turn on fine, (still makes that grinding noise) but the inside unit will not turn on at all, so it will not blow any air to the vents. I tripped the breakers to the system to see if it would reset, and now the outside unit will not turn on at all!We called our local place to have them look at it this morning (9/6/2015). They got the outside unit working but found out that the fan for the inside unit is burned up and they dont have it in stock. If they cant fix this, I am just going to rip the whole system out and put in a Carrier or a Trane system. I cant believe a company would do this to people. Take their money and then right after the warranty expires, the whole system goes down. UNBELIEVABLE!!

Goodman 2 Ton 13 Seer A/C unit and compressor: Bought a unit in 2009 - every year had to have them come and do something because it either did not heat or did not cool. Bought it for $2,355. In 2012 I ended up with bills over $2,400 in repairs. Whatever went wrong was NEVER a warrantied part. Watched them fix the air handler and saw the most flimsy wires ever which I was told would burn out every so often. Last couple of years, the compressor seemed to be rather noisy. Filed a complaint and now I am getting nowhere because the installer and manufacturer keep blaming the other person. IF neither accepts responsibility, then I hope to go the the media to have this resolved. Heard there is a lawsuit against Goodman Mfg. Id like to have a decent unit put in. Tired of the expense. Have a 10-year warranty and it didnt last 4 years before I had bills that added up to a new unit plus more... Go to another manufacturer.

I purchased a Goodman heat pump GPH1360H41BC (sn: 1208655671) in 2012 from a local dealer by my AC tech. It worked ok at first except for low freon. This year I began having problems. First a capacitor, then the fan motor. A month later I was told the coil had a leak and tech replaced 5 lbs freon at $30/lb plus labor. I was quoted 11 lbs of freon at $30/lb plus 3 hrs labor for a total of about $900 for a new coil. Coil was under warranty but labor and freon isnt. Those are the biggest cost on the problem. Why should we have to pay for freon that escaped as a result of a faulty coil?A week later the new coil arrived and will be installed tomorrow. Now I find out there are many problems with Goodman products. I am a widow on social security and cannot afford costly repair bills. My tech tells me they do not install these anymore. Im also afraid that my son who purchased one a year or so ago will also start having problems. Made in China products are no good. Please stop selling these.

On October 16, 2012 we were awakened by a terrible noise coming from our Goodman HVAC unit inside our 6-year-old Fischer condo. We found that the noise went away when we turned off the heat, which is not feasible when the weather has turned cold recently. Since we have been under a service agreement for the past 2 years with Ricks Heating and Cooling I had them come out and upon investigation it was determined that the noise was related to vibration in the extremely long line-set (approximately 106-110 feet) and DelMonde (the installation company) had paired the 3-ton outdoor heat pump with a 2-1/2 ton inside air handler. We have not been able to use the heat pump as the compressor is failing and the coil on the interior air handler has also failed. Therefore, we have been relying strictly on emergency heat and space heaters and keeping the thermostat low in an attempt to minimize our electric bills.Additionally, Rick Martin of Ricks Heating & Cooling states that even if we replace the heating and air conditioning system he cannot guarantee future performance due to faulty installation of the existing line. Ideally, the entire system needs to be replaced and new Freon lines run in the proper location. This could be a considerable cost to us and may possibly also involve having to cut through our drywall and that of our neighbors. Naturally, we do not wish to involve our neighbor in this matter, nor do we want to have to bring it up before our condo association board and would like to minimize intrusion and inconvenience of others. As luck would have it the heat pump only had a 5-year warranty and the coil has a ten-year warranty, however, DelMonde failed to register either item for the warranties. After many weeks of getting opinions from other HVAC companies, two visits from DelMonde, and numerous phones calls with Gary ** of Fischer Homes Warranty Dept. we had an inspection on December 5 with representatives from DelMonde (the installation company), a Goodman factory rep., and Gary ** of Fischer. On December 10, 2012 we received a written opinion from Rob **, the Goodman factory rep, who declared that the refrigerant line set was within guidelines of 150 feet and equates to a capacity decrease from rating of approximately 12% and It is not outside our allowable design parameters per the R-22 Long Line Set Application guide and is not detrimental to the system operation. He further noted that the heat pump and air handler is a proper match ... and he can find no issues with the application or installation. This is very perplexing to us, especially since 3 different HVAC specialists have indicated that the very long line set is much longer than they would deem appropriate and heat pump/air handler do not appear to be a proper match. On December 16, I wrote a response to Rob ** stating that we are not satisfied with his findings and felt the cost burden to replace our HVAC system should be equally shared by Goodman, Fischer, DelMonde and us. To date, we have yet to receive a reply to my proposal.

Let me start out by saying Im a HVAC business owner for 24 years and I will no longer be installing Goodman equipment. The reason is that Ive needed technical help on a few jobs in the last month and the Tech Desk was the worse Ive dealt with out of any manufacturer. They were short, didnt give me many things to try and after I told them what Ive already tried, they were like I dont know. I kept asking them what other things I can try and they just repeated themselves giving me no new things to try. Ive always had great help with other Tech help with other brands and they always helped me figure it out. But Goodman Tech help was worthless the 4 times I dealt with them. They all must really hate their job and take it out on the Service people that call in. Ive been installing Goodman on and off since it was Janitrol. They were helpful and nice years ago. I havent had to call in for Tech help in years and man have they changed. The most arrogant, rudest ** Ive ever talked to. They all need to be fired and hire new Techs and retrain them. Otherwise this company will fall within 5 years the path they are on. I see many other 1 star reviews on here which means this companys Customer Service sucks. Wake up Goodman and if you cant see all these negative reviews, you people in corporate are the dumbest people on earth and you deserve to fail. If I owned a huge company such as Goodman and I see all these negative reviews, I would do undercover calls and find out who all the filth and garbage is within the company and fire them. A new training regimen must be enacted immediately for customer service. New management must be put in place. Out with the old and in with the new.

Replaced my outside AC unit in 2014. Original unit lasted 15 years. Inside unit still going at 20 years with regular cleaning. Regular AC guy, John **, recommended a Goodman outside unit. In 2016 compressor leaks and John replaces it under warranty charging me labor at $75 per hour for 14 hours to pick up and install (ripoff). In 2017, the warranted replacement compressor is leaking. Replaced under warranty and same install cost. I had to use John as he had purchased the unit and could only do the warranty. Never again will I fall into this trap. The outside unit has now cost me $4500. I could have replaced the whole system with a reliable system for that expense, which I have to do now in 2018.So after just shy of 4 years a 4 ton a/c and heating outside unit needed service and Freon added two times (2016 and 2017). The tech I called out today showed me oil leaking from the condenser too. The freon was gone. At least with a whole new unit I will switch from R22 to R14 freon. So no more C & J Repairs and Services Inc to service my AC and never again a Goodman AC unit.

I purchased a Goodman unit after doing a lot of research. I am so sorry I spent 6000.00 on this unit. This is the worse purchase of my entire life. I have had 13 services calls replacing coil, motor, condenser and now the compressor. Consumer Affairs are absolutely NO help and frankly they dont give a damn. So it leaves me nothing else but to hire a lawyer and call channel 8 to get some satisfaction. Goodman consumer affairs does not care nor offer to help. I have never received such crappy customer service. Their attitude is too bad so sad. I am a widow living on Social Security and cant afford a new unit. I asked about the lemon law and they thought I was nuts. I requested a New unit and will not even talk about it. I am very disappointed in this piece of garbage. How can you sell people such shabby workmanship? So as I sit in my home in Florida for the 5th night at 10:35 PM it is 88 degrees in my house. It goes as high as 99 degrees and the unit is still NOT fixed and nothing in site. Oh they offered to replace Condenser 10 year warranty BUT I have to pay for installation, parts, and Freon. WHICH IS THOUSANDS money I do NOT have.

We had this furnace less than 6 years in our new home, this was installed by the builder, and gas valve failed to work within this short period. After contacting their customer service we were told we are out of warranty. This company has a trap set for registering the unit within 60 days of installation to get full 10 years warranty. We were not told by the builder of this trap as Goodman and the builders are all lobbying to sell cheap stuff and keeping the customer uninformed of this conditions in small writings. I am sure many new homeowners may not be aware of this condition which is deliberately set to trick the customer, so the Goodman can wash off their hands of any failed part.Their customer service is lousy and have no consideration whatsoever for exceptional cases. They say only original homeowner will get 10 years warranty, means if the ownership changes, the warranty is over. This is really a joke & trap. How in the world the functioning of Goodman furnace part impact the performance whether Mr. X owns the house or Mr.Y, as far as both does the same maintenance and care and keep record of it as well. I was pretty sure Goodman is a big name in the industry, but this company is worse in the customer service even with a corner grocery store, who still respect their client. Never buy again from Goodman who cannot stand behind their products.

Our house had a Lennox heat pump system that came with a new house made in 2006. It nearly broke me financially with repairs and the straw broke when my family was on the cold side during last winter. I called Recker and Boerger this year and they gave us a bid on a brand-new GOODMAN 16 SEER 4-ton unit armed with a scroll compressor, matching variable air handler, 5-year parts and labor warranty on the entire unit, 10-year parts after the 5 years is up, and a LIFETIME scroll compressor replacement guarantee in the event that the compressor fails for any reason--providing it stays at the same house it was installed in. I explained in great detail to the R&B salesman that my family had been through hell with winter and repair costs and we really needed some good service.

I purchased the extended warranty through our local One Hour Heating and Air (now out of business). This covered a total replacement installation in 2009 of: a Furnace/Coil downstairs; heat pump/air handler unit upstairs; two outdoor units. Evaporator coil sprung a leak last week and I checked my warranty online and on the phone w/ Goodman and they confirmed my coverage for parts and labor. Called one of their authorized Asure techs and he came out and told me the coil wasnt covered.Everything (all serial numbers for furnace, heat pump/air handler, two outdoor units) was covered and registered EXCEPT, they had no record of the serial number for the coil. They all start with similar #s (0905, 1001) yet that one serial number for the coil isnt among what they have. Im beyond angry, especially after reading that thats the part that may have been defective upon install!! *sigh* They said the only recourse I had was to present them with a RECEIPT from 2009 showing that coil on there! After confirming the furnace was covered online, I didnt even consider keeping the receipt. Lesson learned there, I suppose. I will be calling them back today and try and dig a bit deeper. This is ridiculous.

Bought 2d Goodman system after a.c. failed, have a regular a.c. also goodman. The heat pump has not functioned properly since install. Very erratic operation. It is a waste of electricity even though was sold as an energy saver. Runs for 20 to 30 min and never gets above 75 output. This is with 70 room temp and 70 set on thermostat. Has had circuit board replaced and installer came in and rebuilt duct system. I am so frustrated especially after paying a premium price. Thinking about having it removed even if only 7 months old if I could find someone to give me half what I paid for it. It sucks.

So after reading good reviews and hearing good things about Goodman, I decided to fork out the money and pay to have a brand new Goodman heat pump packaged unit installed before winter gets here. Well needless to say that Id much rather have my 13 year old unit back in. The HVAC service company installed a new 3-Ton Packed heat Pump in on the 23rd of November. Its been almost two weeks and already Im very disappointed in this unit. Yes it may be a little bit quieter but it definitely does not get as warm as my York did. The funny thing is that they are both the same size. Im an engineer so I took my infrared thermal gun along with my Fluke Thermometer to record over a two day period what the min., avg.,and max. temps coming out the ducts were. This past weekend the outside air temp was around 42-45 deg. F.. This isnt all that cold outside but needless to say that having my thermostat left on 73 all weekend left for some warm to even bitter air temps inside the house. My house is basically a brand new house with all new dry walls and insulation. After recording the temps, the lowest air temp the hvac pumped out was 64.8, the average was 78.6, and finally the max. temp was 96.8. Only 96.8? That is ridiculous for it being only 42 degrees outside. My 13 year old York heat pump unit would put out at least 110-115 max in that weather. Needless to say I will never buy a Goodman again after losing all the money that I have. Im scared to see how cold its going to be in this house when it is 0-5 degrees and snowing outside. Im more than likely going to have to bite the bullet on this one and buy a whole new unit from York, Trane, or even a Lennox.

I have a Goodman heat pump that is less than 4 years old but has had many problems in that short span of time. Im already aggravated that Im sitting in the heat with no relief, but what really makes my blood boil is the way I was treated by Goodmans customer service. My air conditioner is out AGAIN and Im sick of paying all the service fees associated with keeping it running. My compressor has now gone bad so even though the part warranty will replace it, Im out the $1400 it cost for labor. I feel like they should absorb those cost since they sold me a defective unit that wont stay in operation more than a couple months at a time.

Two years ago, I purchased a new Goodman HVAC system for my 1450 sq ft condo. Installation was neat and clean, and complete within five days. First summer I didn’t suffer from the heat and humidity. Never did I have to touch controls, just set the thermostat at my desired temperature and it would turn on and off without my help. Same in winter. I purchased the service maintenance plan, so every change of season company comes and checks out equipment, changes filter and makes sure I’m ready to go. I know Trane is the best, but also cost the most. I’m happy and price was right.

I live in the NW and had my old unit replaced 6-2020 with a Goodman unit. The unit ran fine but was air only we have gas heat. So that said it only ran for app. 20 day in 2020. This year as temperatures rose in late June it started running for an additional 7 day then died completely by July 16th. That means this unit actually only lasted new for 37 days of A/C service. If it was a heat pump unit delivering heat that would have likely only lasted 1 month. That cost over 2500.00 for one months usage! No one wants to work on it. Just charge over 200.00 to diagnose the compressor is junk. We are left to suit the dealer who claimed 12 year parts & service extended Warranty on our contract in writing, and buy a real A/C unit that will last.Over 30 days usage. At my last home I sold in 2017 we put in a unit in 1997 upon our purchasing the home. It was a heat pump running all summer & winter. When we sold the home it still ran flawlessly 20 years later! Goodman should cease selling such cheap, undependable garbage to unsuspecting customer by shady dealers.

The evaporator coil has already started leaking and is being replaced as I write this review. $625 to replace the coil and $75 handling fee from parts warehouse. My service tech tells me I was lucky to get 5 years and that he replaces these coils frequently. He found the leak in 1 minute. I called Goodman (877-254-4729) and they denied problems with their units and did not offer any compensation. Then I got on this website and read the reviews and got even more depressed. First of all, Im not the type to write a review every time I experience something or go on YELP every time I go to a restaurant. Actually this is my first time ever writing a review. But this experience has really gotten under my skin. My Goodman gas furnace went out last Saturday. I am a mechanic by trade and have worked on many RV gas furnaces so of course I checked it out myself. I took the cover off of the unit and figured out in a few minutes that the problem was that the squirrel cage was in a bind. Therefore not able to spin to push hot air through the duct because the cage was laying against the shroud that the motor and cage sits in. And what had caused this was that one of the brackets supporting the motor had broken a weld. Apparently, it had been running this way for a while because the bearings in the motor were shot. So, even if the bracket was rewelded the problem wouldnt be cured because the bearings are shot making the motor shaft tilt which the cage rides on. Therefore the outcome would be the same. So I called Goodman and of course they were closed on weekends. Which is understandable. Monday I called and after getting forwarded to 3 different people I finally reached someone in the warranty department. I gave them the model and serial number and they said that the unit was under warranty because it is only 2 years old. Well, thats good I thought to myself. But, this is the kicker. I explained the problem, which is very simple I thought. But they wouldnt take my word for it. I was told that I had to call a professional that was a Goodman dealer to check it out so they {THE DEALER} could call it in and order the part. So I had to call a heating & air company and pay them a service call and labor just to tell me the same thing that I already knew. That was all done on Monday. Later that day the heating & air company called and told me that the order was placed and ordered. But I would be responsible for the shipping, which I dont agree with. I asked when I should expect the new parts. They said probably Friday. The parts were coming from Texas, which should be a 4 day delivery time, since Im in NC. Meanwhile the temperature is in the 30s cause its January. You would think that they would rush delivery the parts. Its now the following Saturday and still no parts and Im still without heat. I went and bought an electric heater but it only heats one room. Hindsight I would have been better off buying the parts online for less money but Goodman wouldnt give me the part number for the part I need. Now Ive spend $150.00 for the service call and labor and I expect the shipping to be at least $50.00. Not counting the $120.00 electric heater I had to buy. So much for WARRANTY... I am very unsatisfied with the GOODMAN products and even more with the customer service. Needless to say the next house I build will not have anything GOODMAN in it.

I am not happy with the Goodman A/C that was purchased in December 2009 and was installed on December 26, 2009. I have had nothing but problems with the unit and I purchased the 10 - 10 - 10 year warranty on the unit. Even though you have the warranty, the refrigerant is not covered and you are responsible for adding it - also you have to pay the service calls to get the unit checked. On 6-22-2010 the compressor went out and a new one was installed. On 8-9-11 the blower motor went out and was replaced. On 6-3-2014 the evaporator coil had to be replaced. On 2-23-15 the condenser coil was leaking and has to be replaced - found out to get a new condenser coil would be 7-14 days, because there was not one in the state of Florida. I would not recommend the purchase of a Goodman Unit of any kind. Our a/c company Star Air Conditioning & Heating in Kissimmee, Florida has been excellent and have done everything they can to be of service.

8 year unit, installed in a new house in 2013, Houston TX. 5 Ton. The coil was broken in 2017, had to replace it. This year 2021 the condenser had leaks EVERYWHERE! This was installed in a new built home. My husband passed away suddenly 2 days before the day of the closing back in 2013, and I had no time or clear head to learn about warranties. The crooked contractor never registered the unit under my name, and therefore when it broke this year I could not claim any warranty. Laws in Texas only benefit corporations but not the individuals. The manufacturers will give better price to contractors with licenses, and higher prices to home owners. If you own your house, make sure you register any device you buy under your name, specially if you are a lady, try to avoid service companies to buy devices. Most contractors (installers, distributors, repair companies) in Texas are vultures, awful rats, they will take your money and never disclose the real price they get from manufacturers. Goodman ethics sucks, same as the contractor JDS (David Sanabria) in Houston. For HVAC units save yourself aggravation and pain: Go with RHEEM, Bryant or Carrier.

My Goodman unit was installed new 2008, both inside and out. The inside unit which was a gas furnace had to be replaced as it was still under the 5 year warranty. The outside unit stopped working about a month ago, which the HVAC guy said it was the capacitor was gone. They replaced that and a week later it stopped working. So now I was told to replace the coil as that was the problem. So I had to pay for that to be replaced, as I was told the warranty was only covered 5 years. That being done, a week later it stopped working again. So this time they said I needed to change out the outside unit.I started asking question as I am now very frustrated, and did a little research. Come to find out, these should have been covered under the 10 year warranty, but we are not being told by the HVAC people to register the system. I was under the impression that they register it, as they are the ones that order them and install them. I have been doing property management for 20 years and was never told this. Also my clients have never been told this either, so I am thinking this is another way for them to make money, as we have to fork out to have these units replaced after only 6-7 years old. The HVAC companies should be held responsible for this and stop misleading the consumers, either they register the units or give the owners the option to register it.I do property management and have been using the same HVAC company for years. So all of the owners property that I take care of and have had replacement units, have never been told, nor was any of the warranty papers brought back to my company for me to register them or give to the owners. My other house - we have had that unit in for 20 years and it is still going (not a Goodman unit). I told my HVAC guy and he told me he had not registered them and that it was up to the owners to register them - how can they if they do not know. My complaint is both with Goodman Manufacturing as I am not happy with their products, and the HVAC Company and all the other HVAC companies who do not let the consumers know about the 10 year warranty. Very misleading.

Ive never heard anything good about these units and anybody who buys one will likely get ripped off. Our electric bill has nearly doubled in the winters since weve had this thing and increased in the summer months also. We are so disappointed in our Goodman HVAC unit. It was installed 9 months ago and the circuit board already failed. No big deal...its under warranty. WRONG! We were surprised to receive a bill for several hundred dollars when we had it repaired under warranty. When we called Goodman, they told us that the failed part was covered but not the labor or the service call, despite it being a product defect. They told us we had to have bought a separate labor warranty when we bought the unit if we wanted them to cover labor! So we just paid a whole lot of money to fix a manufacturer failure. We will not be buying more Goodman products in the future. Poor customer service!

I selected a Goodman 5-ton heat pump unit with a variable speed fan system
I selected a Goodman 5-ton heat pump unit with a variable speed fan system in 2011 for a large insulated shop that I own. It was installed by a licensed installer that also is a dealer for Goodman and also does commercial installations for McDonalds, Burger King, etc. 3.5 years later in 2015, the evaporator coils failed. It was a leak deep inside the coils. Pure manufacturing defect. Goodman warrantied the coils, but of course not the $800 in installation and refrigerant costs. Roll forward 3.5 more years and the evaporator coils failed again. Goodman wont replace them, even though it is CLEARLY a manufacturing defect, because replacement coils only have a 1-year warranty. Hmmm. I wonder why that is? Their warranty speaks volumes on what they think of the quality of their product. Customer support tried to help me, but their hands were tied. They did try to blame the installer and that it could have been an improper installation issue. Again, the leak is deep inside the coil array. It seems that the coils are manufactured in such a way that they are rubbing on each other inside the array. Goodman wont admit it, but they know they have an issue when they only offer a 1-year warranty on the replacement coils. That being said, Im driving into Austin today to pick up a new set of replacement coils for $700. Ill be forking over another $500+ for installation and refrigerant. If they fail again, I will happily pay whatever it takes to completely replace the Goodman. I own 7 other properties with different brand heat-pump HVAC systems. The American Standard on my home (11 years old) and the Bryant (5 years old) on a rental house have performed flawlessly. BTW, I have an Electrical Engineering degree with 33 years experience working for a manufacturing company in customer support and development. I know bad product, bad warranties, and bad customer support when I see it.

In 2020, I purchased a 16 SEER Air Conditioning unit and a cased evaporator
In 2020, I purchased a 16 SEER Air Conditioning unit and a cased evaporator coil after the coils on my old Carrier unit (which I loved) failed due to age. Since the new coil required an updated refrigerant, I decided to replace the AC unit as well. The installation went smoothly, and the unit (although failing to cool quite as well as its predecessor) has been functioning without issue. Fast forward to last weekend, when I received a letter from Goodman, stating that they were issuing a voluntary recall on their evaporator coil drain pans (“under abnormal conditions, the drain pans may overheat, deform and melt, posing a fire hazard”). Of course, whenever I see the words “fire hazard”, I sit up and take notice. I immediately contacted Goodman and found out that my unit was affected. Initially, I was impressed that they quickly sent out a replacement kit - which took only a couple of days to arrive at my home. But unfortunately, my experience has accelerated downhill from there. Goodman provides their own technicians to effect these types of repairs - apparently because these dealers are willing to complete the job at a rock bottom price. As a homeowner, I have specific vendors that I have trusted over the years who know me and my home, and I would prefer to have the repairs effected by the HVAC company that has performed my service for many years. Goodman does allow for these “third-party” repair preferences, and my HVAC company was able to price out the job. Unfortunately, when they filed their claim with Goodman, they determined that only a nominal amount would be disbursed, and that the balance (which was over $600) would have to be covered at my expense. Think: “You totaled your $40,000 vehicle, and the insurance company is only prepared to issue you a check for $20,000”. Since discovering that I am on the hook for $600+ in order for Goodman’s problematic part to be repaired correctly (and which I would think they would want to avoid fixing “on the cheap”, since they apparently didn’t get the original design correct in the first place), I have tried every avenue I could think of to avoid having to foot such a large bill myself: 1. I talked to my HVAC company to determine if there was any way they could affect the repair for less. Nope. Replacing the pan will require removing that coil, and that’s a two-man job. 2. I called Goodman’s recall department (which - although staffed by friendly people - is really just a call center). They said they couldn’t help and directed me to the main Goodman number. 3. I called the main Goodman number and was told that they have technicians that have agreed to the rock bottom “you get what you pay for” price, and that if I don’t want to use one of those, I’ll have to pay the difference myself. Gives new meaning to the term “paying customer”. 4. I asked what this rock bottom price was. After a brief hold, I was told that Goodman cannot release the actual amount of the rock bottom price. 5. I asked to speak to a supervisor. After some recalcitrance, I was finally connected with said supervisor, who rendered the same explanation. In essence: “You have to use one of our techs-who-you-have-knowledge-of-and-cannot-vouch-for-the-quality-of-their-work-and-oh-by-the-way-they’ve-agreed-to-do-the-repair-for-the-rock-bottom-price-that-we-won’t-tell-you-what-it-is or else you must pay the difference yourself”. 6. After thinking about things, I decided to try to vet their list of vendors to see if I could indeed go with one of them. I called Goodman back and was immediately told that Goodman doesn’t release the names of these vendors. “You can go to our website for a list of certified Goodman vendors, but there’s no guarantee that the one you call is the one that has agreed to do the repair. And oh, by the way, our process is not for you to call them. They will contact you when they are able to fit you in to the 500,000+ repairs that have to be made”. Needless to say, at this point, frustration levels were through the roof. Continuing... 7. I opened the Goodman website and found a list of certified vendors - scrolling through them and using the point-and-click method, coupled with “they have a nice sounding name” to pick one at random. I found a vendor after a few minutes, checked their reviews (they were good), and called. I was immediately connected to a receptionist who promptly dropped my call. I called back, got the same receptionist, and was able to talk for about 30 seconds before she dropped my call again. 8. I called a second vendor and was told that they weren’t sure whether or not they did Goodman recall repairs. They would get back with me once their service manager had an opportunity. No call came that day. 9. I called my home warranty company to see if they could help with my $600+ passed-along-to-customer cost. They were very nice, and nicely told me that my warranty does not cover manufacturer recalls. So, that pretty much brings the saga up-to-date. I absolutely loathe feeling so defeated, and have pretty much resigned myself to paying $600+ to correctly repair Goodman’s defective manufacturer part. This was my first Goodman unit, and - one thing I can absolutely promise - it will definitely be my last.

In August of 2016 we had an A/C system failure, and decided to have a Goodman complete system with gas furnace installed. Not only was the overall cost much lower than some competitors, both A/C and heat have performed at a very high level from day one. Our home has less humidity, is comfortable, and we also enjoy the fan speed settings. The entire system is powerful and efficient, and we are looking forward to many years of comfort with it in our home.

I have an Amana furnace that just had the heat exchanger fail. It was letting life threatening amounts of CO into our home. It was still under warranty. My HVAC contractor contacted the distributor who said the exchanger was no longer made but offered a replacement Goodman. I was advised by contractor to ask for an Amana because Goodman heat exchangers do not last in Propane service. I offered to pay any price difference. The distributor said he would have to call the factory and get back to me in 2 days. I advised him I was without heat at 18F. He said he would call back with an answer the next morning. Never received a call so I called back at the end of the day. He was rude and put off and told me, I guess you should have just taken the Goodman. I asked to speak with his supervisor and he refused. I have since called Goodman directly 2 times and have just been given the run around. You can only speak with a random operator who just takes some your information and you never hear back from anyone. It has been 1 week with no answers and still no heat. Thanks Goodman for a substandard product and the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

We switched to a Goodman furnace 8 years ago. The company we bought from were very friendly as was the installer, who did a great job. Never had any troubles at all, just changed air filters every 3-4 months. But this July 2016 the coil went bad. The coil warranty was for 5 years, so missed out. After reading these reviews I guess we were fortunate and cant complain. Still would recommend.

I have a Goodman AC unit that is barely 2 years old. Back in November 2017 my coil went bad and lost all coolant. Had to wait almost 2 months for a new coil since it was on backorder. The new coil was installed in January of 2018. Roughly a month later, the float switch died and had to be replaced. A week or two later, the blower died. This also had to be replaced. It is now June of 2018 and the six months old coil is leaking AGAIN! It will cost around 800 dollars to fix AGAIN! Since both coils failed and caused the air handler to freeze up, I now have water damage in the air handler cabinet. Mold is now growing and had to be removed. The air handler cabinet will have to be replaced as well since the insulation is now damaged. With this new repair, I will be $2,000 dollars in the hole on a 2 year old system.Goodman seems like they have poor quality control for their systems and refuse to help. I called the manufacturer and they blame the installation company and to contact the distributor about any complaints. Since the parts keep failing, I would say its the manufacturers fault, not an installation company or distributor. They also have poor customer service. The person I called was Debbie. She was very rude and not helpful at all. She seemed like she didnt want to hear my complaint and not help me. She told us to call the distributor and that was it.With poor quality control and poor customer service, I would have to say this is, by far the worst company I have had to deal with and never will again. Reading all the reviews on here, I am starting to consider legal action against GOODMAN. There has to be some laws protecting consumers against such practices that GOODMAN conducts.

Our original heat pump stopped working after 20 years so we decided to go with this brand. Huge mistake. The motor has gone out twice including last night at midnight. The therm has gone out 3 times. In 5 years this piece of junk has been repaired and or serviced 7 times. We will never buy this brand again. We are in the south in July. IT IS HOT.

I bought a Goodman M acvolt8/ 208/233 unit when I bought my module home Feb 2015. This came as a package deal. I have had to have a local authorized dealer out three times because the air conditioner will not work. Leak found at filter dryer and piston meter device. There is a clog in the system in the area of the clog. The unit was completely frozen. There was no Freon in the system. This system is LESS than two years old. The repairman also noted that the ductwork was not the proper size for the unit we have. I need to have the unit completely replaced and have the proper ductwork put in or I will continue to have this problem. Since the AC/HEATING unit came as a package deal through Taylor Made Homes and Destiny manufacturer I had no choice in what company they used.

In 2009, nearing the finish line of my post-Hurricane Katrina rebuild, I had two new Amana HVAC heat pumps installed. Less than 2 years later, one started malfunctioning and I was told the coils had a leak. Second opinion said no, but the problem persisted as the coolant apparently did leak out over time. Last year, the coils on the downstairs unit appeared to have a leak. I have a parts warranty but the labor runs between $800-$1000 per unit. I called Amana, unaware that this was a common problem, and the customer service rep could just have well sent me a picture of her middle finger with the attitude and complete lack of concern she showed. I guess the volume of complaints had her on edge. I did a lot of research before I bought these units and I had faith in the company. I never would have imagined I would have this much trouble in such a short period of time, as my old units had been in service for at least the 17 years since Id bought the house with only minor repairs, never coils or compressors. Ive been screwed by just about every contractor that set foot in my house but was happy to find a good HVAC company that didnt screw me on service, but the product is just BAD. I cant believe Goodman/Amana doesnt care enough about its reputation to address its customers concerns. Theyve changed their policies about it several times from what I can discern and now theres a class action suit against them. I teach marketing at a university and would love to give them some lessons because theyre in serious need. Bad moves, Goodman. Many bad moves. Im reluctant to pursue a class action suit because their lawyers will make millions and Ill get something like a $100 voucher, but maybe a private suit is in order. At the very least, I should contact the FTC.

Several years ago I purchased a Goodman central air conditioner through a local dealer. It was supposed to be high quality with a 10 year warranty. After several years the coil developed a very small leak and had to be replaced. I tried to get Goodman to replace it, but they told me that I did not register it correctly and essentially told me to **. After some quick research, I found out there is a class action suit against Goodman for knowingly selling coils with a defective design. Many customers have been stuck with these faulty coils. STAY AWAY FROM ANY PRODUCT GOODMAN SELLS. On the Goodman website it says IN LARGE TYPE A name you can trust. Do not believe it. I understand that any company can make design mistakes, but Goodman is a very large company that could afford to stand behind their products, but choose NOT TO. Check out the consumer reviews. Goodman is VERY LOW.

Three year old 14 SEER heat pump developed a condenser coil leak. They warranted the part but not labor to have it installed. I had the new coil installed on a Friday. By Monday the coil drip pan developed a crack and was leaking water. Goodman was called by the installing A/C company for a replacement part and asked them to cover the install due to their part being faulty. Goodman refused to help or cover the labor cost. DO NOT BUY A GOODMAN! I’m cutting my losses and getting a better system from a company that cares about their customers.
