Microwave Maintenance Tips
Posted On: January 30, 2021

Many people use their microwaves every day without giving a second thought to the maintenance they should be performing. Thankfully, starting a few good habits can have a significant effect on the longevity of your microwave. Please listen to our following maintenance tips, a few small things can a big difference.

Keep it Clean
One of the best ways of extending the lifespan of your microwave is cleaning it regularly. Most people don’t realize that food spatters can absorb energy, leaving burn spots and could even damage the components to your unit. Most residue from foods and liquids can be removed with warm soap and water or a specialized microwave cleaner. Microwave messes can also be prevented by purchasing a microwave cover.

Prevent Door Damage
Doors have to be the most abused part of the microwave. Most people eventually slam a microwave door, push it shut with an elbow, or pull the door open without turning it off first. All of these actions could cause gradual damage to your appliance. Microwaves contain three door latches that must be closed in the correct order. Handling the door carelessly might damage these switches.

Power Surges
Power surges are caused by all kinds of events, such as lightning or downed power lines. Unfortunately, these surges can be particularly damaging to microwaves. You can unplug your unit between uses, or simply plug it into a surge protector. The surge protector is the most convenient solution to this problem, as you don’t have to worry about a forgetful moment that leads to your microwave getting damaged.

Easy Replacements
Basic maintenance reduced the overall strain on your microwave oven, and there are many small things you should be able to do independently. Replacing parts such as light bulbs, door latches, turntables, and charcoal filters are safe and affordable. Most of these problems are relatively easy to diagnose. If your charcoal filter is greasy or if your unit vents strange odours, this usually means that a new filter is needed.
