Trane Heat Pump Model XR15
I am a HVAC contractor having installed Trane and American standard units for many years. So 3.5 years ago (this was the year they switched over from R-22 to R410A refrigerant... R410A is a much higher pressure refrigerant!) we installed a new Trane 2 circuit 10 ton condenser and air handler to cool a server room located in a 4 story building. After 13 months of operation the unit sprung a leak.. Trane said 1 year warranty was over so we repaired the leak, no charge to the customer. 2 years later another leak in a different brazing joint. 3 years later two more leaks on separate circuits and again on different brazing joints.. 3.5 years another leak... Finally customer had enough of their servers shutting down in emergency mode causing damage and customer loss.. We lost complete trust in the ability of this unit to hold a refrigerant charge. I stepped in again and installed a complete new condensing unit, crane rental, spot cooler rentals and all.... Thousands of dollars later I demanded Trane reimburse the cost of the new condenser and I would handle all other cost and rentals, they declined! The 10 ton Lemon is stored in the back of my shop at the moment (in case I need it for proof). Needless to say I have ended all sales of Trane and American Standard.
I called TRANE because my TRANE HVAC unit was having problems but working. They said the technician will make only a diagnostic. That, last 4 hours!: broke my thermostat, turn off all the system and just run away, left me with 90 temperature inside the house at night. Before, my system was working 78 to 80 (when the technician arrived was 80). Now is totally off. Please do not trust them, more if you have children in this time of the year with this heat wave.
Excellent service and great staff, very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to purchase an HVAC system. Very efficient and does what it is advertised to do. I would follow the trained professional recommendations when deciding what size unit to purchase.
We bought a Trane heat pump about 6 years ago based on dealer recommendations and advertisements. Within the first 3 years every part except the cover was replaced under warranty. Since then we spent about $200 every quarter on repairs. The piece of crap is now 6 years old and the quarterly repairs just keep getting higher. I will never buy another Trane. Based on my experience it is a total piece of crap that cost more than any other product I have ever owned. We replaced a Goodman that I thought was expensive. When we replace this piece of crap Ill buy another Goodman and gladly pay the repair bills. My personal advice DO NOT BUY A TRANE!!!
I built my house and had an XL16i installed in 2005. Within 6 months there was a recall and the installer came out and swapped out both the exchanger and the compressor (virtually changed everything out except the copper and control lines). Since that time the high and low compressors have been replaced (at different times) three times up until the 10 year compressor warranty period expired. Since there is no coverage for freon or labor, I ate the costs every time and could probably have saved a reasonable amount toward the purchase of a reputable and reliable unit by now. So... two months (2016) out of the 10 year warranty the low-level compressor has once again failed.My service company was kind enough to wire past the defective compressor and now the unit is running on the high level compressor only. It is simply a matter of time before the remaining stage fails. I spoke at length with the Service Techs and both stated this has been a known, ongoing issue with this unit (in the HVAC community they replace these compressors on a regular basis!) and Trane simply ignores its existence... They (Trane) have a stockpile of compressors known to fail, a system (i.e. XL16i) with these ongoing, inherent problems which they refuse to address, and customers are simply stuck with their lemons! Where is a Class-action lawyer when you need them?
We have a top of the line variable speed high efficiency Trane natural gas furnace. It is now 14 years old, but apparently nearing the end of its life. So much for the 20-year life expectancy we were told to expect when we bought it. We had to have the inducer motor assembly replaced twice within the first year of ownership - at least that was covered under warranty. 13 years later, we have had to replace the blower motor assembly in December 2014 for $800, parts and labor. Now, in March 2015, we have to have the inducer motor assembly replaced again at a cost of $900.00, parts and labor. The local HVAC service technician was able to get it running temporarily - bad bearings - while they order the part. Its been a brutally cold winter here in the northeast, so the furnace has gotten a work-out. We will be pricing new furnaces this summer - and we will not be buying a Trane. When the furnace works, we have been happy with the variable speed functionality. But the endurance has been very disappointing, especially since it was such an expensive furnace to begin with.
Purchased an expensive Trane HVAC unit 3 1/2 years ago and have had to replace the coil twice. This last time the coil leaked and caused the panel doors to crack according to the technician. The coil is under warranty but the labor to replace this piece is not and neither is the cost of the panel doors nor the labor to install them. The total cost with labor is over $1000. Trane is not taking any responsibility for the panel doors. I am contacting the Attorney General of Florida with this problem because I have been told by people in the HVAC industry that Trane products have become substandard and break down often. I do not think that I should be responsible for paying when an inferior product is being sold.
Built a new home in 2008 and had a TRANE HVAC installed. The AC coil leaked and was repaired within the first year. Now the unit is 8 yrs old and I am told that both the AC coil and the inside attic coil is leaking. Repairs will cost as much as installing a complete system, according to Smiths AC company. Im now shopping for a more reliable brand. Hopefully with American made parts.
No one is listening! Trane/Standard does not hold dealers accountable and your products do not perform as advertise and are not reliable. Everyone passes the buck. Do you stand behind your product from assembly line to customer. Or do you pass the buck too. On 2/29/2008, I bought a Trane HV/AC System for $7306.88. The heat pump was an XL14i and the Train Air Handler was an innovation system that was going to be like a breath of fresh air with variable-speed control. Both systems promised very high tech features, to include quiet, high efficiency, durable, clean air, first rate warranties, and reliability -- do this words sound familiar. These are the features that were promised to my wife and me. Now, I have a piece of junk and I will never recommend to anyone to buy a Trane or Standard AC unit. We have to keep replacing parts and it keeps making a clanking noise when the heating cycle shuts-off. Now, the Trane certified service agent states that my units cannot be matched and I have to live with the problem and they will keep charging me for the visits because Trane/Standard Extended Warranty will not cover it. What a mess. Your company is not holding dealers accountable for the services and your product is not reliable. I need help. No one seems to want to do the right thing. They keep passing the buck.
Bought new furnace and quit working after 2 months - pipes froze due to 20 degrees cold. Igniter rod bad and technician replaced with new $15 different rod and works fine since. Tech said they had 2-3 other new Trane furnaces with same problem - Trane should have done a recall! Had $3000 in damage and Trane would not cover it!
Replaced our furnace and central air units in 2012. We purchased Trane from our HVAC provider...we had heard good things about them and had no concerns. First year, the unit worked fine. However, we had to have three service calls in 2014 because of cooling issues. We live in Wisconsin so we do not use the unit too often but three calls in the first year and half was nuts, not to mention the service charges we paid. About a month ago, we joked that we should turn the unit on just to make sure it worked and sure enough, we turned it on and 5 hours later, our house was two degrees warmer.Another call to the company we use who came out the next day and after checking the unit, told my husband that the coil needed to be replaced, and that while the part was under warranty, the labor would cost 1800 and take a couple weeks to get the part...the unit has been discontinued. Our other option was a new unit for 2100.00 (Trane would give us 300.00 off the new unit - big deal) We opted for the new unit, who would fix the old for that amount of money with no guarantee something else would go wrong. Now, every time I go in the basement and look at my new Trane furnace, I wonder what the future holds for us.....hoping we dont have to replace that as well. Very disappointed and will never recommend them and/or buy another Trane product. Personally, I think the unit was defective from the start and feel we have been taken advantage of.
I purchased a 1-1/2 ton and a 5 ton Trane model 4ttR HVAC condenser and air handler, in November 2011 for my 2-zone Florida home. The units have functioned free of significant problems until about 2 weeks ago (Nov 2015) when the smaller unit burned out the fan motor, and then a week later when the compressor in the 5 ton unit suffered a leak. Both parts were replaced under the manufacturer 10-year parts warranty -- but watch out, because the light you see at the end of the tunnel is another train -- being the labor costs which exceeded $1,000 combined. This is an out-of-pocket expense not covered by the parts warranty. Though I am grateful for the parts warranty, having to spend this much on labor costs to repair 2 separate units that are only 4 years old, is simply not something I would have expected from a product advertised to be built like a train. I paid almost $9,000 for the new units before applying the state energy rebates, and for this price I think I had a right to expect they would operate, free of major malfunction for at least 5 - 7 years before needing major parts replacements. At this rate, I am very concerned that the units wont ever make it to 10 years before they completely fall apart. These Trane units replaced an older model (different manufacturer) that lasted about 16 years. When the time comes to replace it, you can be sure I wont be riding with this Trane again.P.S. -- I asked my installer if they could contact Trane on my behalf for some dispensation, and they politely said they would never get anywhere with that since they are a dealer; instead they suggested that I, as the end-user/consumer contact Trane directly to see if they might assist with some of the labor costs -- after all, mine was not an isolated instance of one bad unit, but rather two units suffering major parts failures within a couple of weeks of each other; however after reading reviews of other folks who had contacted Trane, it seemed very much like it would be a waste of my time, particularly in view of the reaction I got from my dealer, so I chose to just suck it up. But neither will I be a repeat buyer when the time comes. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
A well respected HVAC installer turned on our Trane Heat Pump for the first time today, Nov. 16, 2012, as our new home was being completed. Within 15 minutes, it exploded and caught fire and if our contractor had left 5 minutes earlier, our home would have burned to the ground. Fortunately, he was able to put out the fire, but within minutes it would have been out of control. This evening we read reviews of Trane Heat Pumps that consistently complain of poor service, poor quality, numerous repairs, even a report of one previous fire. It appears that this company is doing nothing to stand behind their products and correct serious problems.
Our Trane high efficiency furnace is 10 years old and has never had to be repaired. It has had zero problems. Blower is multi-speed and very quiet when running. We also have air conditioning so it runs all year long.
My rating is for the heating and air conditioning company whom we purchased the equipment from and contact when repairs need to be made. We have 2 units. The first unit was purchased over 30 year ago and has not needed maintenance at all. The second unit was purchased five years ago and has needed to be repaired.... small repairs, nothing major, and we have been satisfied completely with both units.
I have Trane XV95 furnace installed 5 years ago. It start to fall apart now. Control board is replaced recently, the new control board uses 120 V for ignitor. I use Comfy service guy to install it. He just put the new control board and didnt tell me my old 80 V ignitor need to be changed to use the new 120 V ignitor. So in the three weeks, it burned out two ignitor until I found out this fact.I has really bad experience with Trane product and Comfy service. If you dont have knowledge about furnace, it is really easy to be ripped off from service guy. Imagine my furnace ignitors get burned and burned continuously just because service guy dont tell you the new control board need 120V ignitor instead of 80V ignitor, and you keep buying a 80V ignitor.
In the past year, had three heat pumps installed. In the process was emailing Trane (American Standard) to see about an extended labor warranty. No response at all! Go to their website, try to call, it keeps reverting to emails communication only. One of the units just installed 2 weeks ago sounds like it is coming apart. Had to google their phone #. Talked to customer service. They do not cover labor even within 30 days. So with that being said I will not be purchasing Trane (American Standard) units again. I think that their response to the matter is poor.
Purchased mini-split heat pump (Model:130900289x) five years ago. Now broken, leaking Freon gas. Since the model was outsourced to a company that no longer is associated with Trane, no one can find my warranty and parts are no longer available. Solution: Purchase a new heat pump. What can stop a Trane? Outsourcing. Tony
Published on 02/20/2020: Despite paying top dollar for 2 variable speed units, I could not get anyone from Trane to respond. Customer service was no help at all and just referred me back to local installers who was equally unhelpful. Trane appears to be more focused on commercial not their residential customers.Original review: All I wanted to know was whether a backup generator I was considering was compatible with my recently purchased TRANE HVAC system. Was told TRANE does not provide technical support for residential consumers.
We replaced our Amana heat pump, which was undersized, with a Trane. While the Trane works, it is so noisy. It keeps me up at night. It wakes me up at night. I cant hear my tv when its running. It sounds like a D9 Cat working hard. Trane sends out a rep who says its within company standards. Im at my wits end with this Trane heat pump. What can I do. We cant afford another 13000.00 to replace the Trane.
I am a HVAC service provider. I have a customer with a 3 yr old Trane unit under warranty. I ordered a replacement part under warranty. The part came in. I went to pick it up with the failed part at the local Trane supply in Chesterfield, Virginia and was told I still had to pay for a warranty part and would be reimburse later. They are fooling themselves if they believe that they have the best product and are engaging in false advertising when they say nothing can stop a Trane. The failure rate of their units are the worst in the industry.
I purchased a new A/C unit in September of 2018. I have only had the unit for 3 months. Within 3 months I have had to have the coils replaced twice, but that is not the reason for the bad review. The Trane air conditioners are EXTREMELY LOUD! I have to turn my T.V. volume up while the air handler is running. I recently turned on the heat. Each time the heat turns on the unit makes a very loud click. I was told by the repair guy that the clicking is the relay in the heater. I did not have any of these problems with my Carrier and Rheem units. It is very hard to get a good nights sleep with this loud Trane air conditioner. I feel like I wasted $5K!
I have purchased several TRANE HVAC units over the years, as have my family. I have 2 new units 2.5 years old, in March, I was told the evaporator coil was broken and all the refrigerant had leaked out. I have maintained my units as recommended, even bought new Freon lines to avoid the whole leak scandal. TRANE did replace the part and paid 1/2 of the labor which was $1200. A month later, 2 capacitor motors are broken--on these 2.5 year old units. Customer service staff are robots that keep repeating they will not honor labor assistance but one time, they have no desire to discuss doing right by the customer nor will they allow you to speak to anyone in upper management that may actually care. NEVER BUYING A TRANE AGAIN.
My Trane HVAC system was 17 years old and stilling working fine. I thought I had better replace it, because of its age and summer quickly approaching. I just had my unit replaced yesterday and I am very happy and satisfied with my choice. I received great service from my old unit, 9 hurricanes, many severe storms and never once has my Trane failed to function and operate flawlessly. If anyone asks I always recommend a Trane. I believe researching the installer is more important than the Trane manufacturer. If it's installed correctly, it'll run trouble free and give you many, many years of carefree service. Always hire someone that knows what they're doing.
In April 2015 we purchased what we believed to be a quality XV20i “TruComfort System”. We spent $17,500. From the beginning, our electric bills increased during times when temperatures are below freezing. We have had sleepless nights due to the loud compressor noise and the system runs 24 hours a day at times. The coils ice up so badly that the ice build up extends out of the side vents and into the fan compartment. We have to resort to our emergency heat unit as the fan blades hit the ice and cannot function. We wait until the unit thaws out with above freezing temps. Our HVAC company has been out multiple times and says all sensor readings are normal and basically don’t know how to fix our problem. Again we have paid for multiple service calls, the most recent $294 with no resolution. Unlike others, I have not attempted to call Trane, as it seems impossible to get help. Our local dealer promises to take care of us, but my faith is dwindling. We work hard for our dollars just like the rest, and it is very frustrating to spend this kind of money on a product that does not live up to its name. It is like robbery.
We replaced our aging Goodman (18+ years) air conditioner with a new Trane XR17 5 ton unit; in the process also changing the condenser, coils & furnace with Trane units. Our old unit was beginning to show its age with frequent breakdowns (but no compressor failure yet) so we decided to go with a installer recommended system. The units were installed by AC Advance of Houston, on February 3rd, 2018 - during winter. Total bill $8400. With the coming of summer in Houston, the air conditioner was switched on - and the ac compressor failed after just 1 week of usage, on 1st April 2018! Not quite what would be expected from a premium brand like Trane.Right now we are stuck in a limbo. I have requested that the ac be replaced by a new unit - since I consider that the unit was new enough when it failed that I should get a new one. The installer is willing to pick it up and install for free - if we can get one. The local distributor for Trane - Hunton Distribution - has shrugged it off by saying that at best we can get a compressor replacement. I have reached out to Tranes warranty replacement - and they are doing due diligence and thorough review of our request. Meanwhile we are sweltering in the Houston heat and humidity while we wait for them to decide on our request. I will update once I hear back from Trane.
If youre looking for HVAC equipment, youve probably heard the Nothing runs like a Trane commercials. Well, my experience with them differs a bit. Their slogan should be Nothing RUINS like a TRANE... ruins your reputation with your tenants, ruins your day, ruins your familys holiday, and ruins your bank account. My system, which SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN WARRANTY cost me almost $2000 to fix due to a defective A coil, and TRANE weaseled out of their warranty and stuck me with the bill. If youre looking for HVAC equipment, do yourself a favor... dont believe Tranes advertising hype and choose a company that will truly stand behind their product. I contacted them through their website, explained what had happened, and a week later, got a machine-like call from a minimum-wage customer service agent who obviously couldnt care less if I ever bought another TRANE system and refused to even consider my warranty claim. Needless to say, Ill NEVER spend a dime with TRANE after this experience and I strongly suggest you heed my warning and avoid them like the plague.
My wife and I bought a house a little more than a year ago with a 5 year old Trane TAM7, which at first was a major selling point. In the year we have had it the outside unit motor failed and the entire inside unit is currently being gutted and replace from a defective motherboard that seems to have affected all the other parts. Trane techs at the Trane supply in Orlando have repeatedly given false information on the units problem and false fixes that have cost us and our techs working on the almost 24 hours of repairs and it is still not fixed. It has been 6 days since our unit stopped working and Trane tells us now it will be another 5 days until another part can be delivered and ready. Trane has been unhelpful and inconsiderate of the emergency of not having air conditioning in Florida when the heat index is over 100 and have done nothing but promise results from its equipment and parts which are not being met. This product is quoted as reliable. I believe if the unit hasnt worked properly for more than 5 months at a time without an issue occurring and HVAC techs needing to come and repair the unit then it is not reliable and should not be marketed as such. We have 8 pets that live with us and being without a air conditioning unit in the central Florida area can have negative effects on their health or possibly be worse. I believe Trane is responsible and is being negligent to their products and consumers that ultimately suffer from this negligence that Trane is refusing to be accountable for.
I built my home in 3/2016. In 5/2016 when it started to get extremely hot the a/c quit working. I called the repair people who said that the wires were not hooked up to the unit and that is why it wasnt cooling. About a couple of weeks later the a/c stopped working again. Again we called major heating and air and they came out the next day and said Freon leaked out because the solenoid caps were not on tight. Again they should have checked that when they came to hook up the wires. Then two weeks or so after that it froze up and quit working again.The same technician came out and said that there was a recall on the expansion valve that they supposedly knew about for months. He said he would come out the next day. Little did I know that would be several days later. When they came to replace the valve they then said that the compressor had frozen up. So being that this unit is only 6 months old I am very disappointed in the level of service that I have received from Trane and the major heating and air technicians. So have basically been without a/c for a good part of a hot hot summer. I have to say that if I ever have to replace my unit in its entirety I WILL NOT get another Trane unit.
We purchased and had installed, a Trane 15 Seer heat pump unit in October 2008. In 2 1/2 years, we had 4 service calls, including a refrigerant leak and the necessity to replace the indoor coils. Luckily, we have a 10-year parts and labor warranty on this unit. But it is worse than the old unit we replaced. Now there is a strong chemical odor that fills our house each time the heat runs. Yet, another service call will be needed and another day off from work. This is the biggest piece of junk. Trane always had a good reputation, but I would never purchase another of their products.
I purchased a new heat pump/ propane unit, to save on the anticipated high energy cost. Since, my bills have increased by nearly 40%! I used the National Weather Service Tables to try to make a fair check. SURE ENOUGH, this energy scam using the (more efficient units) is a scam.
So much for this reputable brand. New furnace and AC in 09. Flashing a draft pressure error code. Ran and passed all logical checks and even replaced the pressure switch (because cheap and easy) for the heck of it. Besides that ran all other troubleshooting and measure tests. All report fine but the thing still has issues in that it runs sporadically. Paid Freds $135 to tell me they dont know what the problem is because everything checks out. Supposedly their $99 initial trip/diagnostic fee covers for 30 days if they need to come back. Two days later and with 53 degree house, they say they spoke with Trane and said to try another pressure switch although doubts that is the problem, and or replace the board to the tune of around $800.00 installed, even though the board checks fine too. Really? Already paid this company to say dont know what is wrong and fixed nothing. Now they want to charge more labor to fix something that they dont know if even is the problem? And of course we find out the original part is not under warranty, but must have had issues because it is obsolete and has been changed a time or two since. So much for reliability and fair service companies. With all due respect to Jim the kind service tech (and is as miffed as we are) but the companies charge policies are out of line, and this comes from people in this business, that are unfortunately not local or Id be using them. And, it took 3 phone calls to Freds to even get a call back for service!
We purchased a new Trane heat and air system for our home nearly a year ago. We wanted the best and top of the line so we wouldn’t have to worry about problems. Paid a high price for the package for our up and downstairs. Within 3-4 months we realized we had an odd smell coming from the vents and after several visits we find out both units had Dirty Socks syndrome (Yep that’s for real). After several visits and attempts to fix this bacteria growing on the coils, they had to replace coils on both units with epoxy coated coils. Thinking now after 6-9 months of problems we should be good, a week before our warranty was up the condenser for the upstairs unit went out and Trane wouldn’t replace the entire compressor unit, only the condenser, so our heating and air company, knowing all the problems, replaced the entire compressor unit at their expense! We would never buy another Trane and will never recommend them after this experience!!!
I read a lot of these complaints, and some are easy to fix the problem. Example if your going thru ignitors, have your tech check the ground on the unit and maybe the house. Should cure that. Some say on high heat it overheats and shuts down and starts again. Ok duct may be undersized, filter clogged, A-Coil clogged with pet hair, dirt, etc. As far as brands go, Trane doesn't seem to have the class actions like a lot of them do. Believe it or not, it is not the evil equipment you may think, it might have an easier explanation. If you have one that works for a while quits and two hours later, the drain trap is clogged. When it finally drains down it allows the pressure switch to close and works till it's full of water again. Lighten up people… The dealers don't want it breaking down on you either…
After much research, we choose an American Standard Heat Pump and Air Handler because of Consumer Report listing their product as top in reliability. Complete system was installed in January of 2016 by Speedy Air Conditioning of Port St Lucie, FL. Since that time, we have had three (3) evaporator coil failures and, last month, the compressor and condensing fan motor failed. This system has a complete failure in every aspect. We are requesting a complete new system, including heat pump and air handler, and were deeply disappointed when the request for a new heat pump, rather than a repair, was rejected.The dealers owner/manager, David Binder, has written that in almost 43 years of HVAC industry experience, I cannot recall ever replacing 3 evaporator coils and having also a condensing fan motor and compressor fail all within the first 4 and a half years of a system being installed, and hope this information will assist you in acquiring replacement equipment from the Manufacturer.
My rating is for the heating and air conditioning company whom we purchased the equipment from and contact when repairs need to be made. We have 2 units. The first unit was purchased over 30 year ago and has not needed maintenance at all. The second unit was purchased five years ago and has needed to be repaired.... small repairs, nothing major, and we have been satisfied completely with both units.
Im compelled to write my review about my experience with Trane and their authorized dealer YEAKLES HVAC out of Hagerstown, MD. First Yeakles completed the installation of a dual fuel (supposed) 16 seer heat pump and A|C system. Immediately I had concerns. The system just wouldnt heat my house in heat pump mode. As questioned the dealer he had argued everything is correct. Just give it time it will work. Anyway as I wait for this system to work. In January I call because again no heat in heat pump mode. He had sent a tech in. His own tech had told me my system is wrong. That his boss had installed a 5tn blower under a 4tn coil. Making it that the 5tn of air across the coil is cooling the system down not allowing it to heat up correctly. So I called Trane, file a complaint. The representative showed me documents that my system is not correct. His data showed that my 16 seer system is rated at a 14.5 seer. So you would think they would make their authorized dealer fix it right? WRONG! On March 1 Yeakles had called me confessing he had in fact installed the incorrect stuff. Great right. No, because within 5 short days Yeakles mind has changed. Even though there is documented proof. He had messed up. Yeakles is now refusing to fix it. What! Oh yeah and Trane has told me they have done all they could do. What! I thought Yeakles was your authorized dealer? Make him fix it! To my point, maybe you cant trust a Trane dealer.
Custom built my home in 2008 and had 3 Trane heat pumps installed. Within 3 years 2 evaporator coils leaked. Trane replaced parts but not labor or Freon. One year later one of the same coils started leaking and needed to be replaced. Trane refused to supply parts but agreed to a cash settlement. Two months ago the other unit’s evaporator coil started leaking plus the coil that was previously leaking and replaced started leaking again.Trane refused to honor anything at first but after much pursuing on my part agreed to a one-time cash payment of $1200. I decided to spend $ to replace the entire two air handlers rather than just the evap coil. Since there was no conditions in the Trane $1200 offer I replaced the handlers with a different manufacturer. Trane refused to supply the parts. Now they rescinded their $1200 because I replaced everything not just the coil. Makes no sense to me.
Never any problem or issues since 2014. Quiet, works well, great contractor. Good experience. Replaced an older unit that was noisy and could not keep up. Liked my contractor, explained things well, worth the cost, recommend.
I usually dont write reviews, but I am so disappointed in my HVAC purchase I couldnt help myself. DO NOT BUY A TRANE PRODUCT!!! Ive had Carrier before and it was a much superior product. My Trane has only lasted 2 years and now I need a new coil supposedly. Of course no warranty on labor so in addition to the 5K I spent 2 years ago, I am now about to drop another 700.00 for service and labor. If this is any indication of how well this unit is going to hold up, I will be buying another unit before this one is even 5 years old. Avoid the TRANE wreck!
Trane Heat Pump Model 63256PF1F - I had this unit installed in the Winter of 2008 and have had 10 service calls on it during that time frame. Number 11 will be done this week. When the unit was 2.5 years old, the compressor went out. I had to pay for the service call, Freon and incidentals. Last year, the unit had issues during the winter. A leak developed causing the heat pump to quit working and all heat came from auxiliary heat strips. My electric bill soared to $1,100.00 while the former highest bill had been $400.00. I have lived in this house for 9.5 years and know what to expect for electric bills. The service technicians made five visits before supposedly repairing the problem. I was billed $1,800.00 for these visits. Each time they came out, Freon was added and charged to the bill without ever fixing the leak. Now this winter, I have the same problem. I suspected that there was an issue (the unit was running on heat strips a lot more frequently) so I called for service. The tech said everything was operating as it should. I paid the $80.00 fee but was not satisfied with his findings. I contacted a different company for a second opinion. They too said everything was working fine. Less than a week later, I awoke to a 7 degree difference between thermostat and room temp. I called them back out and they said it was the thermostat. $150.00 was the charge for this visit. Two and one half days later, the same thing occurred. This time they checked the Freon and found it to be low. Four pounds were added (more money) but the tech said he would have to come back to try to find the leak. That was last Monday. I am anxiously awaiting to hear what the problem is this time.I am at their mercy. The unit still has four years warranty remaining on all parts but I cannot keep putting money into this lemon. If anyone knows of any recourse to Trane, please advise. I have spent over $3,000.00 in service calls, repair costs and added utility costs because of this unit.
Trane XV90 Furnace is a Bummer. This furnace was installed 7 years ago. I am now faced with replacing a cracked heat exchanger for $1200 (labor only; warranty covers part) and an end bell/fan motor for about $1500. No way should this be happening on a 7 year old unit. Might as well install a new furnace (different brand) for another $2000 and get a 10 year parts and labor warranty!
Bought a new house in June 2017 and saw that it had a Trane HVAC unit with a heat pump. I was thinking it would be like the Trane unit my dad bought 30 years ago that is still running, but it wasnt. AC worked fine from June till November when it started getting cold. Turned the heat on and the house actually got colder from the air coming out. Called the builder and filed a warranty claim. The HVAC installation company Carolina Comfort wanted to leave me without heat for 2 weeks. I called my realtor who got the builder involved and 5 days later they had the new valve to food it. Called the dealer and Trane telling them this was ridiculous and they needed to replace the unit since it was overheated from the bad valve. They said not going to happen. Fast forward to December 2018, as it got cold again and I turn the heat on it worked for one day then blew cold air cooling our house instead of heating it before I shut it off. Called Carolina comfort again and they looked at it and said the compressor failed from running last year with a bad TXV. Called Trane again and they said its fixed, thats all they are going to do. I explained that I am not comfortable with this unit being 0 for 2 in 18 months during heat season. They said it is what it is. Next time Ill buy a carrier Lenox or even a Goodman before I ever buy a Trane unit. And if I buy a house with a Trane unit already there, Im going to get a warranty to plan on replacing that trash. Done with buying Trane.
We bought a Trane Heat Pump and new furnace in February 2011. In November 2012 the unit shut down and we found out it had a leak and had lost all 410A. The leak was in the copper joint inside of unit so they brazed it. We had to pay $169 to have 410A replaced even though I thought it was very unfair that we should have to pay anything since it was a factory defect. Well, here we are 7 months later and we have another leak. They are having trouble finding it and had put dye in it to try to locate the leak. Two days later and the dye still doesnt show where the leak is so we have to wait another 5 days to let it circulate more. Of course it is 90 degrees here right now so the unit runs almost all day, so I would think the dye should have circulated. They have had to put in another 2 lbs. 410A and said they will give us a good price on it. Well, I say we shouldnt have to pay for it at all since we spent $7000 for all this 2 years ago. I guess maybe Trane is not real good at standing behind their products, so if they dont replace this unit we will be finding something different and we will be hiring an attorney to recoup our loss. We are retired and bought this new hoping that we would avoid repairs for a few years!! Well, I guess we were wrong. Very disappointed in Trane at this point in time!!!!!!!!
When you go with low cost you could end up like myself: a 3 year old heat pump unit and cant get in touch with Trane to find out who previously registered this unit. Automated message that unit ser nu was previously registered. I was on endless wait for someone to answer at Trane.
This is the reason I chose Trane for my heating and cooling comfort. Both my units worked perfectly for about 8 years. When the furnace would stop, but blower would run in the winter, my Trane repairman blamed the control board and the blower motor which were quite costly. The second service expert found it was the limit sensor, and suggested the control board that I said I had it replaced. Three winters of blowing air with no heat unpredictably the third repair guy, replaced the temperature limit and suggested my under floor vents were the issue. It comes down to that my Trane Furnace XE-90 only works properly when the weather is mild and heat isnt really needed. Advice to Trane furnace owners to look up the control panel light flash indicators meaning, it can tell you how many flashes you see represent the problem supposedly. Additionally watching the Trane tech, there is a way to have the front panels off while the unit works (Be safe about electricity at this point.) There is a trigger button on the top left that can be taped down with electrical tape. I cant afford to have repairmen around, or replace it all. The A/C went too, still working on that one.
I replaced a 2 ton heat pump in January of 2014 to replace another Trane 2T Heat Pump unit that had only been installed in 2001 when the house was built. The new unit quit heating in Nov of 2015 (less than 2 years) and I had Whites Heating and Air-conditioning (our local Trane Dealer) come out to fix it. They had to replace the TXV Valve and replace the refrigerant - at a cost to me of $888. Trane replaced the valve itself (which cost $130) but WOULD NOT COVER LABOR OR REFRIGERANT. This is ridiculous in my opinion for a $4000 Heat Pump. Tranes warranty is really bad and I would warn anyone who is thinking about purchasing a TRANE unit to look at another company that is more reputable.
Absolutely horrible product, customer service and shady warranties. We purchased a Trane HVAC system, XL90 furnace and a 2 ton AC unit in 2009. It is used a couple months out of the year at a lakefront house in Chicago and was installed 6 years ago. Warranty paperwork says 10 yr warranty. Trane says 5 yr. We are stuck with an inoperative system. It is now August and Trane Customer Service has yet to warranty their product. We are left without an AC unit again this summer - installer wants $4000 to replace a 5/6 year old unit. Trane wont cover compressor or condenser or other failed parts. There are better manufactured HVAC units out there. DONT BUY A TRANE. They do not warranty their products and there is a huge amount of built in obsolescence.
Im a HVAC Tech that has been installing and repairing equipment for 29 yrs. When buying a new HVAC unit, its like buying a car. You never know when youre going to get a lemon. If I have problems with repairing a Trane unit, the only option that I have is to call Trane Tech support. In 29 yrs, I have called them a handful of times and never have I talked to Tech support. I have left messages and in 1 case they have called back 2 days later when I wasnt in front of the system to check what they asked me to check. I install and repair units and Trane has made the list of units that I wont sell or recommend!!!!
Even though I have had my current systems for only three years, I am very happy with Trane. The two units I have have been operating flawlessly for the entire time. The systems that were here when I purchased the house needed great deal of TLC for several years, even though they were only two years old when me bought the property. When my daughter in Massachusetts had an addition put on her house two years ago and asked my advice, I told her that both my personal research and my experience had convinced me to go with Trane.
For our home we have purchased two Trane Air conditioners in last seven years. First one lasted only 5 years and I had replaced with another Trane Unit for upstairs bedrooms. It was big mistake. Second unit was installed on March 15, 2014. Annual maintenance contract was signed with installer. In last week of July 2015 AC compressor stop working. We have to sleep on the floor downstairs until new compressor was installed on August 3, 2015. July August are hottest months in Georgia. In April 2016, our air conditioner stop working again. Tech person diagnosed that indoor coil was leaking and it was replaced. Again in August 2016, compressor was stop working and we are without air conditioning in our upstairs bedroom for last 3 weeks. We are sleeping again downstairs floor for last 3 weeks.Thank God downstairs Tempstar AC unit still working next to Trane AC Unit for last 35 years without any issues. Now that is manufacture quality which I do not find in Trane Units that I have dealt in last seven years. I have to pay $160.00 for diagnosis. When I contacted Trane customer service at 1 800 945 5884 two weeks about their defective product and ask for replacement unit, I got around. They keep losing my supporting documents and I have to resubmit 4 times on email provided. Finally after two weeks, escalation specialist Jennifer ** contacted me to advise that company policy does not allow to replace unit and I have to spend my own money for labor cost. When I insisted then she offered me $500.00 maximum to repair unit.Any reasonable homeowner expect that their big investment in brand new AC unit would last only two years. Other brand name like my Tempstar still working after 35 years. My conclusion is based on my experience that Trane Units are manufactured poorly and lack quality control. Please do not buy Trane AC products, unless you want nightmare dealing with repair cost, discomfort and hassle with their customer service. The company does not stand by with its products.
Built a new house and installed a new TRANE heat pump, finished in fall of 2019. We started using the AC this summer. After 2 months it stopped working. The aluminum Chinese evaporator coil failed with a massive leak on the hottest week of the summer. Not even a year old and it needs a new coil. It will not hold refrigerant for even a day. AVOID TRANE AND CHINESE COILS.
Replaced old furnace in our new home. We had new duct work and the Trane v95 put in, 4 months later the ductwork fell down. Then the burners went out on the furnace, had to be replace after 3 months of use, said our basement was too damp. Had to have it serviced again for continuously running and not heating wasting my propane. They said it was our fault we didnt buy the extra warranty. Not everyone has the money to get that. Once again the burners are not heating one year after repair. Each time this has cost me 179.00, the part was under warranty. I am pretty handy but this is ridiculous. They were rude to us and blamed us. My galvanized ductwork was replaced with the foil foam stuff and I had to make many repairs from the mice eating it. Not to mention it keeps falling down heating and cooling my crawl space. We live in the country. They had a terrible time getting it to work at first. That should have been my first clue... I called home depot about it many times and the service company. When they did come out I ended up doing some of the work. Dont have an order number, bought it through home depot. OH, they are no longer using the company that installed my furnace. Too many complaints...
I bought a brand new Trane condenser. It broke down after 6 months. Trane refused to honor their warranty. I ended up having to pay full price to replace but did not buy another Trane. Terrible customer service. Considering small claims court.
This Trane air cond 3 ton wasnt working the day my installer put it in the first year it was installed. Sept 2014 something with a valve and the wrong oil used in this units and Trane knew about this problem. Took over 6 weeks to repair. It was a nightmare. Even my installer didnt want to fix it. Took weeks for a part. They would not rush to help me, my wife and mother in law who had health issues. They were ** on the phone. Now I have a bigger problem with the heat system once again. ** cost me 700 dollars out of my pocket this time. This unit only 3 years old. 200 for shipping, 500 for labor and still waiting for part November 11, 2017. O-rings in the heat exchanger are burnt out like the space shuttle Challenger in 1984. This causes the furnace to run hot and will not lit so now youre in the cold. Check it out on youtube. If you want to be hot in the summer, cold in the winter with a big repair bill Take my advice. Do not even think of buy a Trane AC or heating or whatever else there. Wish I knew beforehand.
I am actively seeking a Florida class action attorney to represent me and thousands of other Florida consumers. Here is the background: In Feb. 2013, I was quoted $6185 for a new TRANE XL Hyperion 16 SEER 3 ton heat pump system for my condo in Gainesville, FL. This included a 10-year limited parts warranty supplied via the TRANE corporation, which was why I selected their equipment. The local utility company supplied a generous rebate as well, so my final purchase price was $5085 out of pocket. There were lots of forms and even air flow tests to be performed for energy efficiency, and a city building permit, too.Unbeknownst to me, this 10-year limited warranty coverage required ONLINE REGISTRATION WITHIN 60 DAYS, or became invalid, and was reduced by 50% to a mere 5-year base warranty. The online registration had to be done via a TRANE company website. However, I was not told to register the serial numbers, or I would lose my warranty coverage. But, the dealer, who would be clearly advantaged by this reduced coverage, knew about it for certain, as the policy started 4 years prior in 2009.My AC system is now 2 years old and I learned quite by accident, that I had lost my warranty coverage because it was not registered online before Day 61 on the TRANE website. I then contacted the dealer by phone and email and filed a request with TRANE to get my original 10-year limited warranty (which I paid for) re-instated. After two weeks of email, calls and postings on Facebook with the TRANE Corporation, I was finally told this week by phone by Cierra **, Trane Escalations Supervisor, that Trane respectfully decline[s] participation to change your warranty terms to 10 yrs. On behalf of Trane Inc. I do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and appreciate the time you took to make us aware of your concerns. Thus my 10-year limited warranty is now invalid and I am left with only 5 years.I believe that this is warranty fraud and may also violate the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (DUTPA), and likely constitutes bad faith on the part of Trane, and the installing dealer, who should have registered the serial numbers on the day of the install, just as a LEXUS dealer would register your VIN with LEXUS when they sell you a car. Please note that this required 60-day online registration policy is an advantage to ANY UNSCRUPULOUS HVAC dealer, and a huge DISADVANTAGE to most consumers, including the blind, handicapped, mentally challenged, poor people with limited or no Internet access, out of town property owners, etc. I am appalled at TRANEs response to this sincere and genuine effort on my part to restore my original 10-year warranty coverage. I believe that it is possible that HUNDREDS of consumers fall victim to this disappearing warranty coverage policy, but I am only asking for your help to restore my original warranty. However, it is worth noting that TRANE could solve this problem tomorrow by REQUIRING that ALL FLORIDA DEALERS register the serial numbers of their system on the date of installation.Meanwhile, I believe the damages in the loss of 5 years of warranty coverage is about $3000, if not more. I have contacted an HVAC warranty services company to find out the actual cost to restore similar warranty coverage. I doubt that any other local dealer will issue extended warranty coverage on my system, as it is now 2 years 4 months old. ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE IS APPRECIATED. I HAVE LOTS OF DOCUMENTATION I CAN SHARE, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL SALES QUOTE, INVOICE, AND MANY EMAIL TO TRANE AND LIBERTY AIR.
We bought our Trane unit about 6 years ago... First, let me start by saying that Tranes slogan Nothing runs like a Trane is accurate! Although, a bit misleading because this thing runs worse than anything weve had previously! First, the compressor went out a year after install, charged for freon and told it was a defect... Trane still fought me on trying to charge for the compressor! Next, thermal switch went out, was told we dont change our filters enough... What, twice a month aint good enough for a freakin Trane?!? Now, weve got clogging in the Condensation drain system... Enough condensation to flood my sons bedroom! Reason for the clog: Reduced ID on the drain tube and a negative gravity feed which collects sludge and clogs. Dont know what school of thought these guys have, but honestly would it hurt to have a free flowing drain system under the tray? Instead of relying on these bozos, Im going to just retube the entire drain tray and fix their crap right. When youre looking for an A/C unit, look here, look there, look everywhere but stay the heck away from Trane! Theyre bad news, problematic and worthless!
My husband and I purchased a Trane air conditioner and furnace in 2009. Both came with 10 year warranties on parts. Since we have had both units, each has broken every 2-3 years. The air conditioner broke in June of 2012 on a 90 degree day. The furnace broke in November 2015 on a very cold Michigan winter. June 2017 rolls around more problems with the air conditioner. We are feeling a sense of complacency and BOOM, summer of 2019 and the air conditioner fails us on another 90 degree day. We consult their website and Trane sends their MOST incompetent technician. Moral to the story: Do not buy anything from Trane!
Our home was built in 2002 and completed in October. We have a closed loop geothermal system with 3 zones. Each zone has a heat pump and a Trane air handler. The system works well and weve had good heating and cooling for 9 1/2 years with low electric bills (thanks to geothermal). We have a 3 visit per year contract with the company that installed our system and have been generally pleased with this service. The first air handler failed after 4 years due to an evaporative coil leak. It was replaced under warranty (with plenty of labor costs). The second one had the same problem shortly after the 5-year warranty expired. It was replaced at full cost. The third unit now requires replacement at less than 9 1/2 years old due to another evaporative coil leak. 3 out of 3! That’s a definite strike out for Trane. All 3 air handlers are indoors in clean protected environments and have had the units serviced 3 times per year. Our much cheaper heat pump that we had in our previous house in TX (with air handler in a blazing hot attic) never had a coil leak. The electric bills were a lot more, but there were no failures in 13 years.
Presently the unhappy owner of a Trane XE 90 - which was reported to be the best available by several dealers at the time of purchase. Over a period of the most recent 6 years this Trane unit has consumed $2,061.50 in parts and labor costs which consisted of a blower motor, four control boards, a flame rollout switch, a heat exchanger, a new thermostat and, just yesterday, $339 for the (20 minutes actual labor time) replacement of a $29.72 igniter. The control board was constantly being diagnosed, by Trane service representatives, as the problem with erratic heat and blower start up. After the third control board replacement, I contacted the White Rodgers Engineer that designed the board and he arrived our home, removed the board, installed a new one then took two of the old boards to their lab. Findings were that there is something else going on with the furnace so they contacted Trane.Trane sent their service representative to check our furnace out - after which a new heat exchanger was installed along with a flame rollout switch. The furnace has not run right for 6 years now and just yesterday it quit igniting. The local Trane repair service charged me $75 for a part that was priced by an internet retailer at $29.72. The labor cost was $309.28 for the technician who arrived at 3:50 p.m. and was out of our driveway at 4:15 p.m. Needless to say, this is $742.27 per hour which is 3.7 times the hourly cost of the surgeon that did my triple heart bypass surgery. I agree that Trane, and their service network, are probably the poorest example of product reliability and service on the U.S. market. I am of the belief that Trane owners are victims of being sold a bad product that technicians can not properly repair and Trane should be held accountable to their product owners as defendant in a class action law suit.
After having over a hundred TRANE HVAC units installed by ZIRO and distributed by TERMO SERVIS, we had to replace all these rusted units (see attached photos) that were manufactured by Ingersoll Rands Kolin, Czech Republic manufacturing facility. These TRANE units were examined by a court-appointed expert who concluded that the manufacturer Ingersoll Rand used inferior quality materials in the manufacturing process. After only a total of less than 20 months of cooling activity, we had to replace completely over a hundred TRANE HVAC units due to corrosion. The most disappointing part of this entire process was that nobody from Ziro, Termo Servis, Trane nor Ingersoll Rand contacted us to find a solution to this serious problem. Even after receiving the report from the court-appointed expert, none of the above-mentioned companies (Ziro/Termo Servis/Trane/Ingersoll Rand) contacted us. Definitely zero quality and evidence that it doesnt take much to stop a TRANE.
We have a unit that was installed in 2005 to cool one section of our home by the prior owners and since buying the home in 2012, the unit has been weak but never failed to cool, just took a long time. As the home is large and has a large 2 story foyer, we thought it was the physics of cooling a space that was too large for the HVAC alignment in the home. Well, finally it stopped cooling a couple of days ago and..... it needs a new valve and new coil. Valve is leaking oil and we cannot adequately gauge how much oil is left in the coil so that may have to be replaced as well and at less than 8 years of age, that is really ridiculous - 3200 on a unit that is less than 8 yrs old and cost 7500 new. Most cars are better than this! Of course, not covered by the sham of a warranty they offer (allegedly 10 years but really just 5 years on almost anything that costs money to repair), and their service line was a complete joke.We went with a local, and reputable, HVAC company and the tech we got to come out said he was shocked how quickly the unit failed. After reading all the reviews on here, I am not shocked at all - Trane makes junk products and does not back them up with adequate warranties. Bottom line - we will be purchasing a Lennox or other brand unit next time. Trane will not be getting any patronage from our home again. Fortunately for our neighbors, they heard our troubles and cancelled an order with Home Depot for 4 Trane units and bought another brand. They are thankful we shared this information with them. If I have it my way, our whole neighborhood will avoid Trane.
I had a new Trane XE1000 heat pump installed in 1997 at a cost of $5600.00. In 2001, the reversing valve failed and I was given the option to replace just the valve (not recommended by the technician) at a cost of $500 or replace the entire outside compressor unit at a cost of $1450. I chose the latter. In 2009, the compressor burned out due to a refrigerant leak. I had the compressor replaced, lines flushed of any dirt or debris, tested for acid contamination and recharged at a cost of $1600.00. The new compressor burned out after 3 weeks. So far I have $8650.00 in this heat pump and it still does not work properly. In my opinion, Trane products are poorly made, of inferior quality and they rely on advertising and their reputation from 15-20 years ago for sales today. I cannot recommend anybody buy this overpriced junk.
We built our house in 2010. Moved-in in Dec. 2010. In July of 2014 one of the Trane a/c units stopped working. The problem was apparently a bug crawled into a circuit box, fried itself and the part which was replaced by the a/c technician with a new circuit that was fully enclosed so it could not happen again. (Nice work on the design Trane). Sept 2014 another a/c stopped blowing cold air. The repair Technician said that the starter went bad so thats why the compressor was not working. So now another large bill to repair a 4 year old Trane a/c unit. $400 a few months ago and now $700 +. Not so happy with Trane right now. Of course none of the parts could be warranted. If youre looking for a dependable A/C, maybe you should bypass Trane.
Our compressor on our Trane heat pump/air conditioner. After 1 and a bit years. Even though we did not purchase the extra labor warranty because who could stop a TRANE. Laugh out loud Something did. And they don't even know what. Yes we got a new compressor, but the installation was 1500.00! So Trane has just lost many customers from our strata that just passed that the 61 units here could install them.
18 month old Trane blower motor ECM module defective furnace shut down on coldest day of year and no parts available, took a week to get the part and it was defective also. Another week called Trane, they could care less about your problem. If I live here long enough will never replace anything with a Trane.
Had a new Trane heat pump system installed in May of 2013. The system worked well until winter came. My first bill in Dec was $294. My second bill was $387, third bill was $528. I first thought the company that installed the system had underrated the size system I needed, so I called them. They came right out, & discovered the filter drier had not been installed properly & I was told it was a factory defect. I called Trane & attempted to get them to pay me for my loss due to their factor to stalled defective filter drier. After being in contact with 3 different customer care personnel & sending them previous years bills, I was told they dont pay customers heat bills. After several communications back & forth. They told me they would send me a check for $200. I responded that I wasnt looking for welfare & evidently they needed money more than I did.After that, I sent 2 emails to the CEO of the heat pump division with absolutely no response. I have used Trane systems for 20+ yrs because of their quality, but evidently their responsibility ends with repair of the defect. They assume no responsibility for cost incurred by the consumer. The people who sold me the unit & repaired the unit were great. I cant say the same for the producers of the unit!
Purchased new Trane XL15i electric heat pump system for over $14K in 2013. Never used since house has wood heat, electric heat pumps are costly and A/C not necessary, Purchased for home re-sale. Discovered unit not operating in January 2015 - first time we attempted to heat house. Now almost May and unit still not working. So far fan motor has been replaced, a capacitor, two circuit boards, and now more Freon added. It appeared to work, but original problem appeared next day. Either units are defective, or technicians have insufficient repair training. I want to sell home, but it wont pass home inspection until the unit works. I should have read reviews, but assumed Trane was a reputable brand. It is essential to have a back up heating system if you choose this product. Unit is attractive and looks high tech. Too bad it cannot function.

We have a Brand New - installed on 20 Aug 2020 - Trane FURNACE (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) making unacceptable unhealthy noise from the Blower Motor and Wheel. Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **.We contacted the Local Authorized Installer the day after the installation to complain about the noise. On 3 September we sent an e-mail with a formal complaint about the noise. We have had the Local Authorized Installer visit twice and make adjustments to the furnace and adjust the fan speed (lower the speed). It is now set at the lowest possible speed, which as expected, does not adequately cool or heat our house - the system is on all day to achieve a comfortable level of 73 degrees.On 11 September, the 2nd visit, the 2 person service team agreed that the noise coming from the Furnace Blower was not normal and sounded like metal on metal. They reported that information to the Local Authorized Installer Company Headquarters. On 21 September, the Local Authorized Installer informed me that they had ordered a replacement Motor and Blower Wheel. On 23 September the Installer Company confirmed the parts ordered. Today, 29 September, the Local Authorized Installer stated that they would not install new/replacement parts because Trane Corp HQ would not give them credit for the parts or for a replacement system. Moreover, Trane Corp HQ told the Local Authorized Installer that the noise was normal for this model.We live in a split-level house. The Furnace is in the center of the lower level. The metallic sound travels straight up the intake vents and can be heard in all three bedrooms. I measured the sound on app Sound Meter with results of Decibel (DB) ratings of: Average 74 BD, Max 76 DB when the Air-Conditioner is on (Cooling) and Average 65BD, Max 69 DB with just the fan blowing.Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **: I called Trane Corp customer service department 3 times to request for the Specifications on the Sound Ratings for this model. That office informed me that they do not have that information as they do not have any technical information. I am a senior citizen and a disabled veteran. The noise has elevated my blood pressure and has caused my tinnitus (ringing in the ears) to be a continual headache. No resolution in unacceptable. Please help.Trane Corp Response: 1. Trane Corp refused to honor the warranty to replace the Trane Furnace (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) with - any other model that has an acceptable noise level. 2. Trane Corp refused to publicize the sound ratings of all of their products, even when specifically requested as a matter of public health.3. Trane Corp refused to provide basic technical specifications - so that customers can make an informed purchase.
Trane heat pump - I purchased this unit from Sears with Sears extended warranty. I dont have all the detailed paperwork at the moment. However, I had several repairs over the years and those were done satisfactorily through Sears. However, the last repair was the compressor. This was approx. one month prior to the warranty expiring. Unit was 10 years old. After struggling with Sears, the unit was finally repaired. However, now one year later, the compressor has now failed again. Since it is past my warranty, I am going to buy a new unit.I had to go pick up my parts - I missed l/2 day of work with no pay to do this. They would not come to my house on Fridays which is my day off. The first visit, there was no repair. The second time they were scheduled to come, they did not show up. And the parts did not show up since I had to meet a truck to pick up my parts. It took me like two months and several calls to Sears to get this repair. When the tech finally came to my house, he was late, lost and there was a thunderstorm in the area (afraid of the bad weather); therefore he did the repair in a haste. All in all, it was a very annoying experience and cost me lost time from work, etc. Im not sure if this complaint is against Sears or Trane, but they work in coordination so both companies are at fault.I have given up and will buy a new unit from more competent companies. In the meantime, I suffer in the heat again this summer just like last summer.
When I bought my house it still had the original Trane unit and it lasted 10 more years. That means it lasted 25 years. Naturally I thought I could trust them again for a quality product. I got the xr13 heat pump and hyperion air handler. From the beginning the air handler has been blowing massive amount of air out. The installer tried to get Trane to help but they said it was normal. It felt like an air blower coming out of the unit. That is not normal. The installer said lots of customers had similar complaints about that product. Now my fan on the condenser wont work after only 8 months. Trane doesnt stand by their product anymore and they make junk. Do yourself a favor and buy anything else.
Im writing this review in regards to Trane air conditioning and heating unit that we purchased in 2015. Just after having unit for six months we had to replace the compressor unit outside. I continue to make calls to the installers of this unit regarding the air-conditioner not cooling. After coming to our house six different times to service the air-conditioner and installing Freon in the unit multiple times. We were told our air-conditioner now require new evaporator coils. The cost would be $995. I then decided to get another opinion of what was wrong with our air conditioner. Each person I had look at the unit had something different to tell me about what was wrong with it. I then decided to call the Trane manufacturer. They gave me a name of a Trane dealer teams. So I called them. They came out, told us that we needed to have the Expansion valve replaced. We did. That was $350, That didnt fix the unit so they had to do a complete unit inspection and have a trane support team tell them what was wrong with it. Now we need evaporator coils replaced. Now its another $950. This air-conditioner is less than two years old and weve had nothing but problems. Trane Will not stand behind their product. Do not buy a Trane.
We own a 5 year old Trane HVAC system that came with a 10 year warranty. It just required a $1400 repair which the repair technician indicated was a design flaw/manufacturer defect. I created a case with Trane requesting reimbursement and their response was a quite dismissive form letter denying any responsibility for their faulty system. Check out their Facebook page before purchasing a Trane product. Its FULL of similar complaints from other disgruntled consumers. I intend to file more formal complaints.
XV 90 Control Board fried after warranty expired - I had a XV 90 installed in 2004. It has run without issue up until Christmas Eve 2012. Ill spare the horror story around the troubleshooting process to determine the board was fried, but in the end, I ended up forking out $1,100 to have a new control board installed. Symptoms: (1) no heat; (2) it came on once, but that appeared to be its final cycle; (3) fan would still run, so it led me to believe that there was hope. Bottom line: Theres a known problem with the board for the model/serial of my furnace. It was recommended by Trane that a new control board/upgrade kit be installed. I plan to keep it around just so that I feel like I gained something from spending so much on a new control board. The service tech that did the repair mentioned that this is a common occurrence and he carries extra boards in his truck for this very reason - nice.
I bought a brand new heat pump system from Trane. The Certified Contractor who installed the unit was excellent, I have no issues with them. My brand new unit lasted less than 3 years at the beach. Please allow me to repeat less than 3 years, and Trane refused to stand behind their product. The unit actually rusted completely through in less than 3 years. I would highly suggest you never buy from Trane because they do not stand behind their own product. Do yourself a favor and skip all the headaches, DO NOT BUY A TRANE PRODUCT. I NEVER WILL AGAIN!
We have a Trane heat pump and electric furnace. The whole system is 11 years and 2 months old. The heat pump has to be replaced because the compressor is shorting out. When I contacted the Trane company, I was told there was nothing they could do since the warranty was only 10 years. I thought Trane was such a great product! I would never recommend this product to anybody!
I bought this house that had two XR14 4-1/2 ton Trane Split heat pumps that were installed in 2010. The first major issue was April 2017. The coil in the air handler corroded from dissimilar metal corrosion. $3000 later for a Trane Parent American Standard Air Handler. July 2017 same thing happened. The repair guy put in $400 worth of super seal to get us through so they would not have to replace the other air handler in the attic. Nov 2017 it died. $6500 for an American Standard split Heat pump replacement. Jan 2018 the original Trane Condensing unit GE ECM condensing fan motor failed is been warm so researching why Trane would use a variable speed motor in an application where the whole unit is a single speed and the condensing fan runs at single speed.The main difference (Wholesale $600) vs a $150 + $10 capacitor connected to your T1 & T2 terminals. My AC guy said that the wont get a computer code when the fan fails again. Im like DUHHHH! The compressor was running and the fan stopped. Thats how I know it failed. Why would I need a computer to tell me the P.O.S. TRANE unit has failed. I am not expecting much better out of the American Standard. I am sure they are all made in the same place with different labels slapped on them. I know some of the cheaper brands do the same thing from a rental property where my 12 SEER unit ran for over 20 years. Doesnt Take much to stop a Trane but it sure takes an act of God to get the parts for them.
We are an a/c company and have to deal with Trane from time to time. Whenever we have to buy a part, exchange warranty parts or even purchase new equipment, we have to wait on the phone for over 30 minutes to be helped. And in their service stores, its about an hour wait. On top of that, they charge us marketing fee for purchasing their equipment. As if they are doing us a favor. There is no sense of urgency with this company. What a poor service.
We have had our Trane HVAC for over 15 years and are truly satisfied with it. As for current pricing, I am not up to date. If the quality of the new Trane HVACs meet up to the quality of what we have currently, the pricing should be worth it!
In April of 2017 we bought a new Trane heat pump. In early December of 2017 we found out the reversing valve was defective and that was why we had no heat. We asked Trane to replace the unit because we felt it was defective from the factory and they refused. They covered the cost of the part but we had to pay $860 in service charges to have it installed.In June of 2018 we spent another $220 having a fan capacitor replaced. We contacted Trane Consumer Relations and this time they offered to cover part of the labor charges with the condition that that would not be liable for any future charges arising from defects. We knew the equipment had a history of problems and turned down their offer.Now in May of 2020 we are looking at another $800 in service charges to replace a defective and leaking cooling coil. Trane Consumer Relations has refused to help in any way. They told us to go through the service company we are using and have them go to the local distributor. In addition to refusing to do anything to help the supervisor in Consumer Relations was evasive when asked simple questions and refused to answer some questions.
I have a critical room that is served by 8 Trane Voyager units at this building for the purpose of keeping critical equipment cool (millions of dollars worth of stuff). In the 2 and 1/2 years since the installation, 5 of the units’ exhaust fan motors have gone bad. The economizer damper actuators have broken on 4 of them. Two condenser coils have leaked and needed replacement on the units. 3 condenser fans have had to be replaced. The pulleys on 3 of the supply fans have had to be replaced because they are made out of plastic garbage. Every month or two, I have to get one of these units repaired. It is a never ending cycle of having to replace parts and rent a crane sometimes for heavy parts like coils and compressors. Do not buy Trane! I am now looking to replace this equipment because the critical equipment cannot be sustained properly due to all these repairs.
The Home Depot provider (ARS, a division of RotoRooter) has not repaired my unit because he alleges Trane is “punishing” them for not selling the brand after they went with plastic??? Bottom line is they have given me the runaround since December 12. My unit is under warranty and my worst fear is that one day my a/c has a problem. Heating in Miami is not needed too often although I had to purchase portable heaters for my birds when we had a few very cold days. I am very upset with ARS and with Home Depot and would like to know if what they say is true. I still doubt that a reputable company refuses to sell parts for one of its products which is just 5 years old. I was very happy with my unit until this happened.
We installed 2 new air conditioner units the end of January 2015. We paid over $12,000 for the new units and installation. In a service inspection performed June 2016 it was found one of the coils in one of the units was leaking refrigerant. The cost to repair this was $1028.32. Per Trane/American Standard even though the units were only 18 months old they would not cover the repair under warranty. The company that serviced them said they have seen several of their new units fail the same way as ours. I would not recommend their product to anyone at this point. They dont stand by their products.
We purchased an American Standard Gold (made by Trane with Trane customer service) HVAC system for our upstairs area in 2012. We did so based ratings and quality reviews. We had good Trane systems in our previous homes with no major issues. This current system experienced 8 breakdowns in the past six years with four this year alone. In nearly every case it was a different issue. I have paid more than $3000.00 in repairs in spite of having a 10 year parts warranty with the system. I have never had such failures of HVAC in any of the homes that I have owned over the past 40 years.
My Trane heat pump quit and I called Country Heating and Cooling Inc to check it out and make the repairs. The system was less than 5 years old and still under the 10 year parts warranty. They discovered a very small leak in copper tubing and made the repair. They also replaced the condenser fan motor I assume because the leak caused a failure in the motor. It took 90 minutes and I was charged $1055.48 which included refrigerant. Shouldnt refrigerant be part of the parts? I asked why so much and they said this was a standard fee for this work. Its amazing Trane uses such cheap copper tubing or makes such poor connections so that it fails within a few years. Its even more amazing HVAC companies can charge almost $500 per hour for repairs. Top lawyers dont make that much.
When we built our new home 13 years ago, we chose a Trane heating and cooling system. We live in a climate that gets very hot in the summer and way below zero in the winter and our furnace/air conditioner keeps up with all that Mother Nature has to throw at us! Keeping the filters changed and regular maintenance are the only expenses so far.
I recently found it necessary to replace my 20 year old central HVAC. I contacted a local HVAC contractor in Denver for the job. They replaced my system with new a Trane furnace and A/C system. After waiting in 90 degree heat for 10 days for the equipment to be delivered and another 2 days for installation, when they flipped the switch - nothing! After another day of troubleshooting they discovered that a circuit board was defective! 8 days later, the new circuit board arrived. That finally got the A/C working. After a few days I noticed that the fan noise was really loud, constantly. After another service call, they determined that the fan controller was defective, and oh by the way, the heating was not working. Im sure it will take another 10 days to get a new controller. This is on a brand new, top of the line, $15k system. I strongly recommend that you consider another vendor for your HVAC. Trane clearly has quality control issues.
I had my upstairs unit replaced with a TRANE system, after the 15 y/o unit failed. I researched models and went with TRANE b/c of their supposed good track record. I have had nothing but trouble with the unit since installed 4 yrs ago in 2012. The coil failed after the first 14 month in 2013, which I was told was an $1800 job had it not been covered by 2 yr labor warranty (thank God for me). The past 2 years I have had to have it serviced for AC failure twice! Each time it was for a different reason, but both resulting in leakage of Freon. The first year it was from a loosened Schroeder. This past repair was from for a leak at txv, a7# Freon leak!I have a great local company who worked with me on labor charges and recommended I contact TRANE for potential replacement. Their customer escalation department is a JOKE. I requested for them to replace my unit as there has been a problem each year and a major component failure with the coil. They basically said, sorry for the inconvenience but we cant do anything except pay half of your last charge (which totaled $274 of $550). It would have been closer to $800 as the labor was 3 1/2 hours but my HVAC company only charged an hour. Sheena **, the escalation rep did nothing but drag her feet for 2 months and offered me real compensation that I deserve.I honestly think I got a lemon or their product just has deteriorated so bad that they cant even stand behind it anymore. I had my downstairs unit replaced the year before this TRANE with a Carrier and havent had the first minutes trouble with it. I wish Id gone with Carrier again! AND, I have both units serviced twice a year for maintenance, so I take care of my investment. DO NOT BUY A TRANE! THEY WILL WRECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT and THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER.
In July 2014, I purchased a Trane 4 ton air conditioner and air handler. In July 2017, the coil developed a leak and I spent $1150 in labor cost to install new coil and $300 to replace refrigerant even though the coil was under warranty. In August 2019, the new coil also developed a leak. I had to pay $850 in labor to install my 3rd coil and $390 to replace refrigerant that leaked out. Replacing both coils under warranty cost me a total of $2690. My service technician from AA American Air Conditioning told me that this is a common problem with Trane coils. I called Trane Customer Service and was immediately told that they would not compensate me for my expenses even though they are selling defective coils. Customer Service told me to have my service technician request a visit by a Trane field representative. He tried to do this but was told that the customer (me) has to contact Trane Customer Service to request a visit by a company field representative. I am in a Catch 22 situation and Trane is giving me the runaround. They clearly do not want to take responsibility for their defective coils and they have a “customer be damned” approach to customer service.
I bought a Trane XL 16i about six and a half years ago. Now it has a hole in the coil. The HVAC company comes out each year for preventive service. Im beginning to think thats a waste of money. Anyway, itll cost $1,000 to replace the coil and thats with the warranty on the parts. I kept hearing that Trane is supposed to be one of the best. Well, I beg to differ. Will not be buying another Trane.
Just informed by service tech from Bower Heating & Air in Roanoke, VA that my 24-month-old Trane heat pump (Model 4TWX6036E1000AA) needs to be replaced. Apparently there are none in existence anywhere in the U.S. and I will be forced to wait at least 2 weeks for a replacement. It’s 7/29 in SW Virginia.
I had a 4 ton Trane heat pump installed 2 seasons ago at my beach cottage. After only 2 seasons, my evaporator coil rusted out and caused a loss of freon. The part was under warranty so my repair bill was only $450. The grate which holds the fan motor has almost corroded to the point fan will not operate safely. When I complained, I was told I live in a high corrosion area which is the cause of my problem. The technician said he sees this problem frequently because the copper and aluminum is from China on the new models (my last unit operated in this same location for 11+ years). Trane needs to do better than this.
New home built in 2007 new Trane furnace installed. Wrong from install, noted by the service technician during a routine maintenance check and trying to fix a water leak coming from side of furnace. Charged me $187.95 and still that night the water leak continued. The next day 3 other techs came and tried to diagnose the problem. A roll of duct tape and lots of PVC piping later, the leak finally stopped after making my new furnace look laughable. Now we have rust issues caused from the water leak causing parts and switches to degrade and corrode. Needing a $20 part replaced the same reputable Trane dealer would like to charge $278 plus tax for something their bad install job caused to go out. After explaining that I feel the part was damaged because of the water leak that developed from a bad install and should be replaced at no charge, they told me I should just buy the part and replace myself. I said Im not going to do that and they told me they are wiping their hands clean of me and walking away from my situation. I tried to call Trane and they hung up on me. I tried sending email and they tell me theyre free to charge whatever theyd like to charge me as they are independent dealer. They do not want to understand that these problems are because of either a bad product or simply the bad install the tech admitted to. I will never own another Trane product during my lifetime. Horrible customer service and worse product. You can see from my photos the install job they did to my Trane furnace and the rust that has developed. And yet still no one from Trane or the installer would like to take blame.
Installed a Residential Heat Pump during the build of new home Sept. 2008. We wanted a heat pump to get away from Oil & save money every year - so far not the case. NOTE: Filters were changed every 2 months regularly. Unit was fully serviced every fall. Dec. 2010 - went away for Christmas holiday - returned home to find exterior compressor in a 6 solid block of Ice. Service tech found a leak inside of the gases due to faulty valve. Jan. 23, 2013 - Fan blower motor gone! Part covered under Tranes 5 yr warranty - but not service labor to replace it. Jan. 16, 2015 - Fan Blower Motor GONE Again!! (was -27 cel. in N.S.). Ordered in a new one direct from Trane manufacturer, arrived, service tech found shaft was bent - so he rejected it. (I guess Trane doesnt do a QC check on parts when they build them or when they leave the facility). Had to Air frt. in a new motor once again. Jan. 22, 2015 $1200 later & Heat pump back working!!! Nothing Rides Like a Trane HA!! - Most Tranes I know have a reliable Engine!!
The original blower wheel installed in model 4TGB3F48A1000AA Furnace Air Handler is inappropriate. In my estimation, it was designed to fail. In my case, it failed just after 4 years of service. The notched blade design is not compatible with a direct drive system. The amount of overlapping material of the blade relative to the dual center drive disks is not sufficient to withstand the rotary forces placed on them by the motor. A solid blade design would be the best option. I would suspect that others have had the same issue. The seasonal HVAC tech who performs bi-annual service noted that he was very familiar with the sound this particular blower wheel prior to failure. As it stands, this item is not covered by any warranty and supposedly can only be installed by a licensed Trane technician for approx. $500.Failure in this case equals the dual center drive disk slipping out of its original position. Each fan blade skips out of its designated slot allowing the drive disk to rotate irrespective of the fan assembly. DIYers will be happy to know this can be replaced for less than $70 without any special tools. Just match the blower wheel attributes to those listed on Emotorstore.com
Purchased the Trane furnace 6 years ago. This summer when I came in the house from outside my whole house was full of smoke. I ran around looking for the fire and found nothing. A month later last week exactly when it got cold I went to run my furnace and it didnt work. When I went down and opened the panel I could smell the same smoke I smelt that day and there was my circuit board all black and melted. When I called the company who installed it (Masters) they came out and said the board was under warranty but the labor was going to be $300. Sounds cheap. But NO ONE can tell me why it caught on fire. So I told Masters I wasnt going to pay them to put in another circuit board because it could have BURNED MY WHOLE HOUSE DOWN. Their response was call Trane and let them deal with it. So I called Trane and the first question they ask is did I have it professionally serviced every year. I replied no but had heater coils replaced under warranty after just 3 years. Now I sit here waiting on Trane to tell me whats up and where we go from here. But I already know their answer and I told them dont even try and tell since I didnt have it serviced regularly its my fault, because had you WARNED me that if I didnt have it professionally serviced IT MIGHT CATCH FIRE I would NEVER have bought it. So after just 6 years here I sit with no furnace and no resolution. Now every time I call Trane, they say were working on it and well call you back. They have no intention of fixing it. So I called Masters back and said go ahead and replace the board and Ill pay the $300 BUT IF THE FURNACE CATCHES FIRE and burns down my house Im suing both Trane and you. The owner of Masters then says, NO THANKS. WERE NOT EVEN INTERESTED IN COMING BACK TO SERVICE IT. I said, Why are you worried it will catch fire? I mean if its safe whats the big deal? Both Trane and Masters heating and air are crooked and in this together to screw over the consumers knowing they GOT PROBLEMS they arent telling their buyers about when the purchase is made. PLEASE FIND ANOTHER FURNACE MAKER AS both Trane and Masters could care less for our SAFETY and cares if we lose everything. Of course all they are going to say is THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. So I ask if you have had a circuit board melt or catch fire please let me know. I know I am not the only one with this SERIOUS problem.
Our residential central air conditioner a Trane XL1200 and XE90 furnace was installed back in 1996. It has been extremely reliable. The air conditioner is service checked once a year and has never failed once. The furnace has had the blower clutch go after about 13 years and start capacitor went after about 14 years. Very minor repairs with not one electrical or major mechanical failure on either. Getting a good contractor for installation is essential. We had the local Trane dealer do the install of which the bulk of their work is commercial installations. Not sure about the other reviewers but I recommend Trane to everybody for the reliability and efficiency.
We installed two Trane XLi20 units five years ago. The first floor unit has performed flawlessly. The second floor air handler was replaced within two months, followed by over 20 service visits by our local Trane installer (who has been great throughout). Since the local distributor has not been able to solve the recurrent coiling failure issues and Trane has not offered to replace the compressor, even though the problem almost always seems to be low refrigerant pressure, our installer has offered to install a comparable new Lennox system for free. Trane has been non-responsive to consumers for such a long time that I cannot believe they can still survive in this business. Never again. Has anyone started a class action against Trane? Id love to join in.
Coil Leaking, HVAC person tells us ALL HVAC UNITS are bad now. I hope the title says it all. I purchased a high-end TRANE for roughly $8000 a little over 4 years ago and while still under warranty the coil has been leaking and I ran out of Freon. To fill the unit up to get through the summer I spent about $700 for the coolant. The warranty doesnt cover labor, so even if I order a new coil under warranty, it will cost a fortune to install it, with no guarantee it will perform any better. My HVAC person said theres roughly 350,000 units with bad coils right now. Is there an agency I can call, like an insurance commissioner in our state? I know theres such a thing as a Lemon Law with respect to cars. Can there be a class action suit brought against these companies?
Installed entire new Trane AC and furnace 16 months ago and the compressor has failed. Trane will cover the parts, but the representative is trying to charge $560 + Puron for repair. I also have been paying $150 a year for 2 Preventative maintenance since the system was installed, trying to be proactive and keep my unit functioning. Contacted Trane Consumer relations and never was called back. Contacted Trane DSO manager for Florida and was never called back. Apparently it does not matter that you spent $7000. You only get a year of functionality and Trane does not stand behind their product. DO NOT BUY A TRANE! Spend less money and buy a Goodman.
