Trane Heat Pump Model XV19 Error Codes

Trane heat pumps may use error codes to help diagnose and troubleshoot issues. The specific error codes can vary depending on the model and type of your Trane heat pump. It's crucial to refer to your heat pump's user manual or technical documentation for accurate information about error codes.

Here are some general Trane heat pump error codes and their potential meanings. Keep in mind that these are generic examples, and your specific model may have different codes:

Error Code 126: This code might indicate a low refrigerant charge. It could be due to a refrigerant leak or other issues affecting the refrigerant levels.

Error Code 91: This code may be related to a high-temperature issue. It could indicate problems with the compressor or issues with the refrigerant cycle.

Error Code 89: This code could be associated with a high-pressure condition, possibly due to issues with the condenser coil, fan motor, or other components.

Error Code 82: This code might point to a low-pressure condition. It could be caused by low refrigerant levels, a refrigerant leak, or other issues affecting the pressure.

Error Code 79: This code may be related to a communication failure between the indoor and outdoor units.

Error Code 77: This code could indicate issues with the outdoor unit's fan motor or the related components.

Error Code 74: This code might be associated with a defrost control issue. It could be related to problems with the defrost thermostat, control board, or sensors.

Error Code 68: This code may indicate a fault with the outdoor temperature sensor.

It's important to note that these codes are general examples, and your specific Trane heat pump may have a different set of error codes. Always refer to the user manual or technical documentation provided by Trane for accurate information.

If you encounter an error code on your Trane heat pump, it's advisable to consult the user manual first. The manual typically includes a troubleshooting guide that may provide steps to address common issues associated with specific error codes. If you're unable to resolve the problem or if the issue persists, it's recommended to contact Trane customer support or a qualified HVAC technician for assistance. They can provide accurate diagnostics and perform any necessary repairs.

Installed a Residential Heat Pump during the build of new home Sept. 2008.
Installed a Residential Heat Pump during the build of new home Sept. 2008. We wanted a heat pump to get away from Oil & save money every year - so far not the case. NOTE: Filters were changed every 2 months regularly. Unit was fully serviced every fall. Dec. 2010 - went away for Christmas holiday - returned home to find exterior compressor in a 6 solid block of Ice. Service tech found a leak inside of the gases due to faulty valve. Jan. 23, 2013 - Fan blower motor gone! Part covered under Tranes 5 yr warranty - but not service labor to replace it. Jan. 16, 2015 - Fan Blower Motor GONE Again!! (was -27 cel. in N.S.). Ordered in a new one direct from Trane manufacturer, arrived, service tech found shaft was bent - so he rejected it. (I guess Trane doesnt do a QC check on parts when they build them or when they leave the facility). Had to Air frt. in a new motor once again. Jan. 22, 2015 $1200 later & Heat pump back working!!! Nothing Rides Like a Trane HA!! - Most Tranes I know have a reliable Engine!!

OK... purchased new Trane HVAC with CleanEffects Air Cleaner in November 2011. In July 2012, returned from vacation to find that fan had quit working. Fixed in 2 days. In July 2014, the CleanEffects quit working - diagnosed as a bad door which contains the electronics. Waited 2 weeks for part. Called installer who said the Trane was having a problem supplying the part as they had changed to a new company to manufacture the units and parts for the CleanEffects. Installer said that he was trying to get local distributor to provide the door from a unit in stock but to date that has not been accomplished.I sent email to Trane and received response stating that they hoped to have backlog of parts orders caught up by mid-August 2014. My concern and disappointment with Trane stems from the fact that the company and its distributors appear quite ready to sell CleanEffects units on hand knowing full well they cannot support the product and are at the same time ignoring needs of current owners of the units. Trane seems to have a problem maintaining parts inventories for their products. I would certainly advise anyone to steer clear of buying the CleanEffects air cleaner as Im not convinced that it does much of anything when it does work.

My 35 year old Rheem system finally bit it in 9-2008. I called around for 10+ quotes for a new heat pump system and the contractor I chose Installed a new 4 ton Trane heat pump system. My first repair call was less than a week after install. Less than a year later, there had been around 10 service calls and the installer refused to make any more calls because he was losing so much money. I found another Heat/AC company and he has been outstanding in his work, but I have not made it 3 months without some kind of system parts failure. Now the warranty is out (5 years) and the compressor is bad. Shopping around and I find out it will be the same cost for the repairs as it will to replace system. So far in 5 1/2 years, I have spent around $5000 in parts and service calls for a $4000 system. Trane will not return calls or answer my emails. Needless to say, I will not be buying a new Trane...

The seller of our house put in a brand new Trane TAM7 with an XL18i just to sell the house. Less than a year into the house the unit developed a leak at the evaporator coil. Took several days in the middle of summer to get it fixed (labor/410a not included). Then within a couple months the time delay fuse blew twice in a row - the tech eventually replaced it with a similar rated automotive fuse. Now this summer the condenser coil went out and after getting that fixed the blower ECM has died. Over and over, the system keeps breaking in multiple places... Absolute piece of crap. A unit this expensive should last care free for years - not break down 4 times in the first 5 years.

I purchased two Brand new Trane 15 Seer Air Conditioning/Heat Pump Units, from a reputable HVAC Company, whom also installed the units. I was told Trane was the top of the line and worth paying more to have the best, peace of mind, 10 year warranty, etc. Its been less than two years and one of my units needs a new evaporator coil. The part is under warranty, but the labor is going to cost me $800!! The AC Guy told me that they dont make Trane Units like they used to. The parts arent made by trane, theyre either made in China or Mexico and Trane doesnt stand behind them. The AC Guy also told me that there are so many bad Coils that theyre on back order. Im very disappointed in Trane products and dont recommend spending the extra money.

Even though I have had my current systems for only three years, I am very happy with Trane. The two units I have have been operating flawlessly for the entire time. The systems that were here when I purchased the house needed great deal of TLC for several years, even though they were only two years old when me bought the property. When my daughter in Massachusetts had an addition put on her house two years ago and asked my advice, I told her that both my personal research and my experience had convinced me to go with Trane.

I had a new Trane air conditioner unit installed in the March of 2015. In August 2016 it stopped cooling and the coil in the air handler was leaking refrigerant. The cost to repair this was $1,200. Trane did replace the coil under the warranty, but they would not cover the repair cost. The supply company said they have seen several of their new units fail the same way as ours. The air conditioner stopped cooling again after only two days of operation. This appears to be a quality issue and is costing us consumers a lot of money and the reliability of Trane is NOT good.My old unit lasted for over 20 years with no major issues, it was only replaced due to its lack of efficiency and cost of operation. Based on the over $10,000 this new unit has cost me so far, it would have been cheaper to keep the old unit, $10,000 would buy a lot of electricity. I am not happy and am ready to bite the bullet, cut my losses and replace the entire system with another system, but NOT Trane.

I have been experiencing continual compressor failures with one of the four Trane units at my AZ home. Trane warranties the parts but not the labor, which is costing me a fortune (4-5 hours every time). The compressor that blew 8/1/13 was replaced in 2012 and new in Oct. 2004. Seems like Trane should bring me a whole new machine and cut their losses too. I am very unhappy with Trane and their support. Their products for HVAC dont hold up in AZ, and I will replace my units with another company as they continue to fail. Buyer beware!!!

We purchased an American Standard/Trane HVAC unit in 2012 with a 5 year warranty. When they installed our furnace in 2012 they also installed the air conditioning coils but the outdoor unit was not installed until a year later. Therefore, the air conditioning coils were not in use until that time. Our AC failed less than 5 years later and the cause was the air conditioning coils. Not only were we without air conditioning during a record heat wave, we had to pay nearly 1200 in repairs. I have had a very bad experience with the Customer Escalation Department at Trane. They told me that even though the unit was clearly not in use for 5 years, they could not and would not provide any compensation for our costs. We chose American Standard because we thought we were purchasing from a good company who would stand behind their product. We were so wrong!

I purchased my home early this year and the house is less than 5 years old with two Trane Air Conditioner units. I received a 1-year buyers warranty for the house as part of the sales contract. As the summer heat started, we noticed the air conditioners were not working well. We contacted the warranty company for service. After a couple of checks including freon refill, they finally found out that there is a leakage in the main unit and the evaporator coil needs to be replaced. They said the unit is still under manufacturer warranty and asked me to directly contact Trane to receive a new evaporator coil and the warranty company agreed to follow up with the labor. I reached out to Trane but they said my warranty expired because I had to contact them within 90 days of purchasing the house. I have explained to them that I was never informed by anyone about this requirement, and I even did not know the brand of my air conditioner until there was a problem with it, but they did not accept. That is totally unreasonable, how can a home buyer know about this rule? This is just a way for them to get away from their warranty duties. I hope this review will help some people to know about this rule so that they can reach out to transfer the warranty within 90 days.

We purchased a Trane XL18i high-efficiency heat pump back in the fall. We have had many issues with the unit since installation. It was initially not installed correctly and continues to not work properly. We thought Trane was a good product, but we are seriously questioning this. Now that the season has changed and we are using A/C for the first time, it does not work correctly. We spent thousands of dollars and NO ONE seems to be able to rectify the issues. We have been given our 3rd thermostat (I dont think theres anything wrong with the thermostats), and Im really not so sure that there isnt a much bigger issue with the installation or unit itself. We believe at this point that the entire installation needs to be checked, including all wiring that was done with it to find the problem and resolve it once and for all. The Trane dealer we used is useless, so we called the Trane 1-800 number and requested a field service rep be sent out. They refused and said that they didnt care about the issue, talk to the dealer. They really dont stand behind their product! We are obviously not alone with this experience, so couldnt we all band together for a class action lawsuit? Any attorneys reading this or does anyone know an attorney who would take this on? I am on board with this. We would love a refund at this point and have them take all the equipment back so we can go with another company. Wishful thinking.

I had a new Trane XE1000 heat pump installed in 1997 at a cost of $5600.00. In 2001, the reversing valve failed and I was given the option to replace just the valve (not recommended by the technician) at a cost of $500 or replace the entire outside compressor unit at a cost of $1450. I chose the latter. In 2009, the compressor burned out due to a refrigerant leak. I had the compressor replaced, lines flushed of any dirt or debris, tested for acid contamination and recharged at a cost of $1600.00. The new compressor burned out after 3 weeks. So far I have $8650.00 in this heat pump and it still does not work properly. In my opinion, Trane products are poorly made, of inferior quality and they rely on advertising and their reputation from 15-20 years ago for sales today. I cannot recommend anybody buy this overpriced junk.

I purchased my Trane in 2013 from a local heating and air contractor. It was the greatest purchase I could have made. I live in SW Virginia, which means it gets pretty hot in summer and cold in winter as we live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. It keeps the house cool in summer and toasty warm in winter. It's been known to get down to zero around here upon occasion. This really is a wonderful unit. It has a 10 year warranty which is really good. I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend or to buy it again. Love it! It's Energy Star rated and has brought my electric bill down considerably. It was only $113.00 last month down from over $200.00! If you are looking to buy a furnace or heat pump I would highly suggest you look at Trane first. It's the best one out there by far!

We bought our Trane unit about 6 years ago... First, let me start by saying that Tranes slogan Nothing runs like a Trane is accurate! Although, a bit misleading because this thing runs worse than anything weve had previously! First, the compressor went out a year after install, charged for freon and told it was a defect... Trane still fought me on trying to charge for the compressor! Next, thermal switch went out, was told we dont change our filters enough... What, twice a month aint good enough for a freakin Trane?!? Now, weve got clogging in the Condensation drain system... Enough condensation to flood my sons bedroom! Reason for the clog: Reduced ID on the drain tube and a negative gravity feed which collects sludge and clogs. Dont know what school of thought these guys have, but honestly would it hurt to have a free flowing drain system under the tray? Instead of relying on these bozos, Im going to just retube the entire drain tray and fix their crap right. When youre looking for an A/C unit, look here, look there, look everywhere but stay the heck away from Trane! Theyre bad news, problematic and worthless!

I usually dont write reviews, but I am so disappointed in my HVAC purchase I couldnt help myself. DO NOT BUY A TRANE PRODUCT!!! Ive had Carrier before and it was a much superior product. My Trane has only lasted 2 years and now I need a new coil supposedly. Of course no warranty on labor so in addition to the 5K I spent 2 years ago, I am now about to drop another 700.00 for service and labor. If this is any indication of how well this unit is going to hold up, I will be buying another unit before this one is even 5 years old. Avoid the TRANE wreck!

Bought a new house in June 2017 and saw that it had a Trane HVAC unit with a heat pump. I was thinking it would be like the Trane unit my dad bought 30 years ago that is still running, but it wasnt. AC worked fine from June till November when it started getting cold. Turned the heat on and the house actually got colder from the air coming out. Called the builder and filed a warranty claim. The HVAC installation company Carolina Comfort wanted to leave me without heat for 2 weeks. I called my realtor who got the builder involved and 5 days later they had the new valve to food it. Called the dealer and Trane telling them this was ridiculous and they needed to replace the unit since it was overheated from the bad valve. They said not going to happen. Fast forward to December 2018, as it got cold again and I turn the heat on it worked for one day then blew cold air cooling our house instead of heating it before I shut it off. Called Carolina comfort again and they looked at it and said the compressor failed from running last year with a bad TXV. Called Trane again and they said its fixed, thats all they are going to do. I explained that I am not comfortable with this unit being 0 for 2 in 18 months during heat season. They said it is what it is. Next time Ill buy a carrier Lenox or even a Goodman before I ever buy a Trane unit. And if I buy a house with a Trane unit already there, Im going to get a warranty to plan on replacing that trash. Done with buying Trane.

We built our house in 2010. Moved-in in Dec. 2010. In July of 2014 one of the Trane a/c units stopped working. The problem was apparently a bug crawled into a circuit box, fried itself and the part which was replaced by the a/c technician with a new circuit that was fully enclosed so it could not happen again. (Nice work on the design Trane). Sept 2014 another a/c stopped blowing cold air. The repair Technician said that the starter went bad so thats why the compressor was not working. So now another large bill to repair a 4 year old Trane a/c unit. $400 a few months ago and now $700 +. Not so happy with Trane right now. Of course none of the parts could be warranted. If youre looking for a dependable A/C, maybe you should bypass Trane.

Its getting old explaining to people why their blower motors fail within a year, coils leak within a year, white flakes from aluminum coils comes out of the vents etc. Trane also had a Model of air handler that had drain pans as brittle as egg shells. This isnt just Trane either. We service all makes and most use the same ECM motor, same chinese sourced copper and aluminum for coils, etc. I miss 20 years ago when a service call was a legitimate problem and didnt require an EXCUSE as to why things failed.

In the past year, had three heat pumps installed. In the process was emailing Trane (American Standard) to see about an extended labor warranty. No response at all! I am a HVAC contractor having installed Trane and American standard units for many years. So 3.5 years ago (this was the year they switched over from R-22 to R410A refrigerant... R410A is a much higher pressure refrigerant!) we installed a new Trane 2 circuit 10 ton condenser and air handler to cool a server room located in a 4 story building. After 13 months of operation the unit sprung a leak.. Trane said 1 year warranty was over so we repaired the leak, no charge to the customer. 2 years later another leak in a different brazing joint. 3 years later two more leaks on separate circuits and again on different brazing joints.. 3.5 years another leak... Finally customer had enough of their servers shutting down in emergency mode causing damage and customer loss.. We lost complete trust in the ability of this unit to hold a refrigerant charge. I stepped in again and installed a complete new condensing unit, crane rental, spot cooler rentals and all.... Thousands of dollars later I demanded Trane reimburse the cost of the new condenser and I would handle all other cost and rentals, they declined! The 10 ton Lemon is stored in the back of my shop at the moment (in case I need it for proof). Needless to say I have ended all sales of Trane and American Standard.

10 years ago we had a Trane heat pump and indoor unit installed, we didnt buy the extended warranty because Trane appeared to be a solid brand. Literally each year during a/c season weve had to replace some portion of the indoor and/or compressor units. Weve had a circuit board short out because a lizard found a way onto the compressor electronics box. Weve replaced 3 master control boards in the inside unit and numerous other circuit boards and sensors. The system has not been reliable and has cost us as much in repairs as we paid for it originally. The Trane website talks about all the extensive testing they do but they seem to overlook basic things. We are an HVAC contractor in California and have been in business for 40 years. In the last 3 years, we have seen more coil problems than in all the previous 37 years put together. Trane is not admitting to people that they have had a huge problem with quality control. Unfortunately, we are the middle-man on these issues and customers get upset when we have to charge money for our labor, refrigerant and welding materials to replace these coils. Trane gives nothing towards these costs. No wonder Americans are upset about so called American made products. We are tired of getting blamed for bad manufacturing. When you are a small business in America these days, you get squeezed between big government and big business. America, wake up and start spending money locally or this trend will continue and we will become an oligarchy, not a republic!

I have a critical room that is served by 8 Trane Voyager units at this building for the purpose of keeping critical equipment cool (millions of dollars worth of stuff). In the 2 and 1/2 years since the installation, 5 of the units’ exhaust fan motors have gone bad. The economizer damper actuators have broken on 4 of them. Two condenser coils have leaked and needed replacement on the units. 3 condenser fans have had to be replaced. The pulleys on 3 of the supply fans have had to be replaced because they are made out of plastic garbage. Every month or two, I have to get one of these units repaired. It is a never ending cycle of having to replace parts and rent a crane sometimes for heavy parts like coils and compressors. Do not buy Trane! I am now looking to replace this equipment because the critical equipment cannot be sustained properly due to all these repairs.

Just purchased new Trane XR Model # 4TTR4042L1000AA with Manufacture date of 5/2015. After installer put in unit they tried to turn it on. It was DOA. They had to get another a/c tech to find the switch was faulty and get another switch. The tech said the unit wasnt working when it left the manufacturer. After fixing the switch the unit would not cool properly. Trane said that an additive had to be put into the compressor which after that was done unit would still not cool. Installer came back and found a faulty valve in the condenser unit. Installer had to provide photos of the bad valve before Trane would send new valve. It took a week for Trane to send the valve which was the wrong part. Installer had to contact Trane again to get the correct valve. The new valve is now faulty. Installer has been out 4 times now, says I have to contact Trane and get them to resolve the matter. Installer said Trane has been aware of the faulty parts for 2 years. Buyer Beware. Dont purchase a Trane. I paid $5,992 for the unit and feel I was robbed.

We have a three-level townhouse that is about 1500 square feet. We purchased the house in 1992, and it was about 10 years old. A York heat pump and heating and air system was on the unit and we had no issues with the unit... it worked like a charm. In 2007, we had collateral damage from an attached houses arson fire, and the unit inhaled so much smoke that State Farm Insurance allowed us to get a new unit. We trusted them and got a comparable Trane unit.By the way, beware of State Farm and any insurance company, and make sure they arent cutting corners with your home, car or anything else they insure... but that is another story. They might say theyre a good neighbor... but they are a ginormous company with a lot of people to deal with, and many are less than desirable. Have a fire and a car accident with State Farm as your insurer, and see who your good neighbor isnt. Trane, however, is BAD PARTS and SERVICE. State Farm doesnt have manufactured parts. Buyers beware... we have had a heater or air major repair every season since the Trane was installed. We found out by going to the internet for known issues, and gave the model number and info we got from a very nice HVAC technician.Trane installed crap parts that broke over and over in the same units until only threats of class action suits and so many furious customers made Trane change their part manufacturer on the TX Valve. If you got a Trane between 2000 and 2012, beware. These parts, especially the START CAPACITOR TX VALVE HEAT STRIP ELEMENTS - the bad TX valve failure will cause the freon to need replacement and a very expensive technician bill. A bunch of new homes in a development had to replace their TX Valves over and over and made such a fuss that Trane had to pay. We have had the unit 5 years, and we have had to lay out money for expensive parts and service every year and almost every season. And we will likely pay for the unit in repairs over and over and over if this continues. The installers and HVAC techs know these issues and they dont like it either. Trane knows the bad parts, and they let consumers buy them over and over and let the installers take crap, and they make money replacing parts that should have been recalled and replaced by TRANE. The only thing that deflects that from happening is that no one usually dies from a bad Trane unit, and it doesnt get worldwide publicity as it should. From what I have read, it doesnt matter what size unit. If its Trane, you are going to waste your money and feel the pain. Threaten them, scream at them, join together, and sue them. Publicize their rip-off stories on sites like these or any way you can. Any company who does business like this needs to correct it. They sold bad parts in units, and knew they were bad... and let the consumers get stuck with crap. The bad publicity and reputation management that issues will cost a global company are serious... so get Trane to pay. We have lost money, days of work waiting for repairmen, discomfort in being cold or hot for days every season, and extra utilities, because fans and space heaters and unit compressors are working overtime.

When I contacted the Trane company, I was told there was nothing they could do since the warranty was only 10 years. I thought Trane was such a great product! I would never recommend this product to anybody!

2.5 ton HVAC unit defective coil - Unit was installed on May 24, 2014. One month beyond unit installation guarantee on parts and labor the unit quit cooling. The unit originally cost $4,500 and the installer BURGESS AIR CONDITIONING LOCATED IN CLEARWATER FLORIDA does not offer financing. Two years and one month later, we required service and the replacement of the coil which cost us $891. Time to repair unit by obtaining the coil took over 2 weeks. 90+ degree temperature over this period. The part was NOT EXPEDITED for delivery for our unit. Burgess or Trane would not take any action. Would you believe that Trane offered $109 for our inconvenience. Burgess told us where we could buy a portable unit until ours was fixed.

All freon lost and had to have service call to weld the line and reinstall freon. $605 later, its fixed for the moment but Trane will not stand behind what should be a warranty issue because of the defective pipe routing. We purchased this Trane about three years ago and very happy with it so far, it cools, almost too cool sometimes and I love the warmth in the winter. The installers put this on the roof so it is out of the way so no one will trip over it going around the house. I have had no issues with it at all. When this was put in the installers had to put in vents in the ceiling which makes a nice cool house, we only had floor vents before; we had a furnace and window coolers and this took care of both items. Because of this purchase we purchased new windows, nice additions to an old house.

He just put the new control board and didnt tell me my old 80 V ignitor need to be changed to use the new 120 V ignitor. So in the three weeks, it burned out two ignitor until I found out this fact.I has really bad experience with Trane product and Comfy service. If you dont have knowledge about furnace, it is really easy to be ripped off from service guy. Imagine my furnace ignitors get burned and burned continuously just because service guy dont tell you the new control board need 120V ignitor instead of 80V ignitor, and you keep buying a 80V ignitor.

The system has broken down a number of times and recently the igniter switch has burned out three time in the past month. The installer cannot find the reason and now I am told that I have to replace a board with a cost in excess of $1,000. This is after replacing the igniter switch twice at a cost or $200 per switch. I called Trane and all they could tell me was that I am out of the warranty period. Clearly Trane does not stand behind their products. Pick another manufacturer and avoid Trane.

Had new Trane XL20i Heat Pump installed 10/20/2010. July 2014 Air Handle evaporator leaked, repaired. Then Condenser became erratic, low-pressure issues, numerous service calls, more parts replaced. Left for summer to NJ from FL, came back, low-speed compressor fried. Trane will not assist. Installer is a good company, and Trane simply tells us what we need to hear.First they tell you the service company need to contact distributor then service company tells you that not the way it works. Mentioned to Trane representative Alex, that the inconsistencies between service company understanding and Tranes position leaves me with no options. Want condenser system replaced and mention consumer affairs massive number of reviews complaining and they will no longer talk to you. September 24, 2011, we purchased the entire Trane Duel Fuel System from McCrea Heating and Air Conditioning Service of Virginia for $10,000. This included a variable speed 2-stage furnace, top-of-the-line Trane heat pump, new coils, and a whole house humidifier. The system worked for a year. In September 2012, we started to get error messages on the thermostat. Since calling McCrea to fix this system, they have been here seven (7) times. The problems were no outdoor temperature reading, the system not being able to switch from heat pump to furnace when the temperature dropped below 35 degrees, and the humidifier stopped working. Most of these issues are related to a defective relay panel, which Trane apparently doesn’t keep in stock, or they break quite often and they can’t keep them in stock. The system still does not work as advertised and has not worked correctly for five (5) months. I do have a service contract with McCrea, and all repairs have been under warranty, but the system still doesn’t work correctly.

Purchased an expensive Trane HVAC unit 3 1/2 years ago and have had to replace the coil twice. This last time the coil leaked and caused the panel doors to crack according to the technician. The coil is under warranty but the labor to replace this piece is not and neither is the cost of the panel doors nor the labor to install them. The total cost with labor is over $1000. Trane is not taking any responsibility for the panel doors. I am contacting the Attorney General of Florida with this problem because I have been told by people in the HVAC industry that Trane products have become substandard and break down often. I do not think that I should be responsible for paying when an inferior product is being sold.

I replaced a 2 ton heat pump in January of 2014 to replace another Trane 2T Heat Pump unit that had only been installed in 2001 when the house was built. The new unit quit heating in Nov of 2015 (less than 2 years) and I had Whites Heating and Air-conditioning (our local Trane Dealer) come out to fix it. They had to replace the TXV Valve and replace the refrigerant - at a cost to me of $888. Trane replaced the valve itself (which cost $130) but WOULD NOT COVER LABOR OR REFRIGERANT. This is ridiculous in my opinion for a $4000 Heat Pump. Tranes warranty is really bad and I would warn anyone who is thinking about purchasing a TRANE unit to look at another company that is more reputable.

We purchased an American Standard Gold (made by Trane with Trane customer service) HVAC system for our upstairs area in 2012. We did so based ratings and quality reviews. We had good Trane systems in our previous homes with no major issues. This current system experienced 8 breakdowns in the past six years with four this year alone. In nearly every case it was a different issue. I have paid more than $3000.00 in repairs in spite of having a 10 year parts warranty with the system. I have never had such failures of HVAC in any of the homes that I have owned over the past 40 years.

My Trane HVAC system was 17 years old and stilling working fine. I thought I had better replace it, because of its age and summer quickly approaching. I just had my unit replaced yesterday and I am very happy and satisfied with my choice. I received great service from my old unit, 9 hurricanes, many severe storms and never once has my Trane failed to function and operate flawlessly. If anyone asks I always recommend a Trane. I believe researching the installer is more important than the Trane manufacturer. If it's installed correctly, it'll run trouble free and give you many, many years of carefree service. Always hire someone that knows what they're doing.

I was a Trane dealer in the new home market. Profit on these jobs are minimal and are eaten up by problems with equipment warranty. I didnt have many problems with the R-22, 13 seer equipment. When I moved to R410a, we had several expansion valve failures. I had to eat the cost of replacing the part, which was mileage, travel time and labor. When my builder pushed me to sell the 15 seer Tranes with 410a refrigerant, hell broke loose. These indoor coils are very thin and are highly susceptible to formicary corrosion from drywall, carpet and various new home products. Trane refused to acknowledge the problem and I replaced $28,000 worth of evaporator coils in 2012. I had to jump through hoops to prove the leaks existed in order to receive a warranty coil and was unable to get any assistance from Trane to recoup my expense to make things right with the customer. These coils would be a little over a year old typically, just out of labor warranty. Now most customers laughed at buying the extended labor warranty at installation and I could have charged for the labor to replace the coil. However, I dont have the mind of large corporations, so I would eat the cost to make it right by the customer. Trane quietly tried treating the coils to resolve the issue. Now they dont leak. Now they stink. When I walked from Trane, I was being called out a lot on coils that would run you out of the house with dirty sock syndrome. This is a problem that requires extensive work to remedy the problem. I had enough and walked away from Trane. Keep in mind this is in new modular homes. I cant say I had the same issues in older homes. Buy the extended warranty if you buy Trane. Labor costs of $900 to replace a coil or expansion valve are true when you think about everything that must be accomplished to accomplish the job. A variable speed motor or motor end change is several hundred dollars as well. One repair justifies a warranty and the annual service check cost. Remember that the guy fixing your unit isnt the guy who drove to Mexico and built it. It costs a lot of money to drive that mobile shop up and down the road to your house. The heat pump in your backyard works harder than anything you own. Take care of it. Your elected government/party makes no difference, has dictated units to meet high efficiency standards. The units are more sophisticated than ever and costs are going up a lot faster than your pay raise. Be careful of the HVAC company you call to service your unit. Parts and equipment sales are the goal of a good number of companies - large or small. If you price shop for cheap, then you are cheap and get what you deserve. Now is the time to ask your co-workers and neighbors who they recommend, not when you are broken down, looking online for someone you know nothing about. If you find a company that treats you well, shout it from the rooftop. You may save a neighbor some anguish.

We installed an XL15 system in our home - heat pump, air handler, etc. near the end of 2011. 6 mos. after it was installed the fan motor on the air handler died. It took a week to obtain the replacement. Now, in May of 2019 were dealing with the need for other parts for the air handler - a circuit board, valve, EVAP sensor and another sensor. Parts take much too long to be obtained. They say 3-5 business days, but were already past 4 days and I dont expect to see them within 5. So, buyer beware that unless the part(s) you need are readily and locally available, you could have a problem. The risk is high and when we replace this system it will NOT be with a Trane system.

Trane dealer installed a new Trane heat pump system in Summer 2016. I regret I did not read the reviews online. The system started having problems in winter 2018. Dealer checked it and said the heater in air handler was broken and needed replacement. Then defrost board and fan motor in heat pump were found broken. The condenser coil could also be leaking. I was shocked by all these major issues. Dealer just told me I was unlucky to get a bad system. I was asked to pay about $900 labor fee since only parts are under warranty. In addition, there could be other issues since testing could not be done without replacing the parts. So whole system is a junk. I complained to dealer manager, then to Trane customer service, then escalated to supervisor. I sent them all the documents they asked for, but never heard from them. Whenever I called them, I was transferred many times and held for one hour, but nothing was done. I emailed them many times, but no reply. People working at Trane just don’t care. Just had a new XV18 air conditioner installed with all the bell & whistles. But when the fan is in continuous run mode it shuts off every time the AC comes on. So at night when the ac has to cool the house 1 degree the fan shuts off. The house goes quiet while cooling, then the fan comes back on, that is not the definition of continuous. Have contacted Trane many times asking if this is how the system operates or is there a problem. Neither Trane nor the dealer that installed the unit have been able to answer this simple question in 2 weeks. Trane just tells me to call the installer, and since the installer cannot answer the question I do not understand why it is so hard for Trane to get me to the right person at the company that knows the equipment. There are other issues with the unit in regards to noise & vibration in the wall, but I do not want the installer to put any more work into the unit if we cannot solve the fan issue. So now everything is on hold and I am not getting an answer. Has anyone else had this problem? If Trane cannot help with a basic question I am concerned about if they will back the equipment. Seems once you have it the problem is yours not theirs. Bad customer support & service.

My husband and I purchased a Trane air conditioner and furnace in 2009. Both came with 10 year warranties on parts. Since we have had both units, each has broken every 2-3 years. The air conditioner broke in June of 2012 on a 90 degree day. The furnace broke in November 2015 on a very cold Michigan winter. June 2017 rolls around more problems with the air conditioner. Replaced our furnace and central air units in 2012. We purchased Trane from our HVAC provider...we had heard good things about them and had no concerns. First year, the unit worked fine. However, we had to have three service calls in 2014 because of cooling issues. We live in Wisconsin so we do not use the unit too often but three calls in the first year and half was nuts, not to mention the service charges we paid. About a month ago, we joked that we should turn the unit on just to make sure it worked and sure enough, we turned it on and 5 hours later, our house was two degrees warmer.Another call to the company we use who came out the next day and after checking the unit, told my husband that the coil needed to be replaced, and that while the part was under warranty, the labor would cost 1800 and take a couple weeks to get the part...the unit has been discontinued. Our other option was a new unit for 2100.00 (Trane would give us 300.00 off the new unit - big deal) We opted for the new unit, who would fix the old for that amount of money with no guarantee something else would go wrong. Now, every time I go in the basement and look at my new Trane furnace, I wonder what the future holds for us.....hoping we dont have to replace that as well. Very disappointed and will never recommend them and/or buy another Trane product. Personally, I think the unit was defective from the start and feel we have been taken advantage of.

In 2017, I moved into a brand new home equipped with a Trane HVAC unit. Approximately 30 months later, the air conditioner failed. I was told that the condensing unit, a major part that normally lasts for ten years or more, was defective; that although the part itself was under warranty, the installation labor and coolant replacement were not and that a repair would cost close to $2,000. I was also informed that Trane and their dealers knew they had a problem with their condensers beginning in 2014 but continued to sell them and, as far as I know, based upon the experiences of others, still do. When the problem first occurred, Trane reimbursed the customers affected but eventually stopped the practice when it became apparent that there were so many claims.Like many of the reviewers, I was given the runaround by Trane customer service. Each time I called, I was asked to repeat all the information I had already provided as though the call was my first. I was assured over and over again that my case was under review but it was never resolved. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told that it was not possible. In short, my experience with Trane customer service was probably the worst experience I have ever had with any company. There are many HVAC brands worthy of consideration. Trane is not one of them.

In July 2014, I purchased a Trane 4 ton air conditioner and air handler. In July 2017, the coil developed a leak and I spent $1150 in labor cost to install new coil and $300 to replace refrigerant even though the coil was under warranty. In August 2019, the new coil also developed a leak. I had to pay $850 in labor to install my 3rd coil and $390 to replace refrigerant that leaked out. Replacing both coils under warranty cost me a total of $2690. My service technician from AA American Air Conditioning told me that this is a common problem with Trane coils. I called Trane Customer Service and was immediately told that they would not compensate me for my expenses even though they are selling defective coils. Customer Service told me to have my service technician request a visit by a Trane field representative. He tried to do this but was told that the customer (me) has to contact Trane Customer Service to request a visit by a company field representative. I am in a Catch 22 situation and Trane is giving me the runaround. They clearly do not want to take responsibility for their defective coils and they have a “customer be damned” approach to customer service.

My wife and I bought a house a little more than a year ago with a 5 year old Trane TAM7, which at first was a major selling point. In the year we have had it the outside unit motor failed and the entire inside unit is currently being gutted and replace from a defective motherboard that seems to have affected all the other parts. Trane techs at the Trane supply in Orlando have repeatedly given false information on the units problem and false fixes that have cost us and our techs working on the almost 24 hours of repairs and it is still not fixed. It has been 6 days since our unit stopped working and Trane tells us now it will be another 5 days until another part can be delivered and ready. Trane has been unhelpful and inconsiderate of the emergency of not having air conditioning in Florida when the heat index is over 100 and have done nothing but promise results from its equipment and parts which are not being met. This product is quoted as reliable. I believe if the unit hasnt worked properly for more than 5 months at a time without an issue occurring and HVAC techs needing to come and repair the unit then it is not reliable and should not be marketed as such. We have 8 pets that live with us and being without a air conditioning unit in the central Florida area can have negative effects on their health or possibly be worse. I believe Trane is responsible and is being negligent to their products and consumers that ultimately suffer from this negligence that Trane is refusing to be accountable for.

Purchased new Trane XL15i electric heat pump system for over $14K in 2013.
Purchased new Trane XL15i electric heat pump system for over $14K in 2013. Never used since house has wood heat, electric heat pumps are costly and A/C not necessary, Purchased for home re-sale. Discovered unit not operating in January 2015 - first time we attempted to heat house. Now almost May and unit still not working. So far fan motor has been replaced, a capacitor, two circuit boards, and now more Freon added. It appeared to work, but original problem appeared next day. Either units are defective, or technicians have insufficient repair training. I want to sell home, but it wont pass home inspection until the unit works. I should have read reviews, but assumed Trane was a reputable brand. It is essential to have a back up heating system if you choose this product. Unit is attractive and looks high tech. Too bad it cannot function.

In April 2007 I purchased a Trane residential HVAC system for $8500 from Home Depot. The authorized Trane installer at that time was McCarthy Services. They installed the system and “completed” the install on April 9, 2007. I was given a certificate of warranty by McCarthy that covered from April 9, 2007 to April 9, 2017. Several months later I was looking for the inspection certificate from the county and found that there was not one in my paperwork. I contacted the county to get a copy. They did not find a record of a permit issued for the installation of my HVAC system. I contacted McCarthy and informed them that they did not get a permit for the install and did not have a county inspection. McCarthy was issued a permit on May 13, 2008 and had the inspector come out. The install failed inspection. They made some changes to the system, and again it failed. Finally, on July 17, 2008, the install passed inspection by the county. On July 1, 2017, the AC failed. A tech looked at it and said the compressor had failed and needed to be replaced, and that the coil also needed to be replaced as the new compressors use a different kind of freon and are not compatible with that coil. The cost was to be $5975. I called Trane and explained that the original installation did not pass inspection until July 17, 2008 so my 10-year warranty should go from July 17, 2008 to July 17, 2018 and this compressor/coil replacement should be covered by the warranty. They told me to take a hike. I paid for the install out of pocket and filed a complaint with Trane. The Trane customer service person said they could not do anything. I escalated it and that person basically told me to stick it.I am a home inspector. We used to rate Trane and Carrier as two of the best HVAC systems. We typically tell our customers that any major appliance that is 10 years old could be ready for a replacement in the near future so they should start planning. I have seen AC units that are 20 years old still running fine. More and more we are hearing horror stories about Trane HVAC systems. I no longer recommend Trane to anyone and now suggest Carrier.Trane seems to have abandoned their commitment to quality and their customer service sucks. I can attest to both. It seems that the one thing that can easily stop a Trane is a few years. So, I decided to file a suit against Trane in the hope that they would at least negotiate some partial payment to me for this replacement (which was a Trane only because if it was a Carrier I would have no chance at any reimbursement). I filed suit in small claims court in my county. I heard nothing from Trane and expected them to be a no-show on the day of court. Instead, they sent a hot-shot lawyer from Washington DC to fight me. The case was moved to regular court and a trial date was set. I had to file a document called a Bill of Particulars stating my complaint. Their hot-shot lawyer filed a 10-page reply referencing a whole bunch of cases and provided 11 reasons why I should not get my money. I am certain that this has cost Trane more than the $5000 I was looking for. This attorney did not even ask me if I was willing to take some other amount to make me happy and drop the case. They are clearly really serious about not giving a crap about their customer. Please, don’t ever buy a Trane.

I purchased a brand new furnace air conditioner from Apollo H&C in 2002 and within weeks was having issues. This went on for over a year and the installation company, Apollo, replaced nearly every part in the furnace and it STILL wasnt right. Finally, they replaced the furnace with a brand new one and that one began having issues. Here it is 12 years later and I am still dealing with a product that I would NEVER recommend to my worst enemy. Not only did they install a lemon of a furnace TWICE, but I was told the furnace was too small for my home & the A/C was too large. The A/C blows out every year when we first turn it on and has to have a part replaced nearly every year. STAY AWAY FROM TRANE & APOLLO HEATING & COOLING IN S.C.S., MICHIGAN.

I purchased a 1-1/2 ton and a 5 ton Trane model 4ttR HVAC condenser and air handler, in November 2011 for my 2-zone Florida home. The units have functioned free of significant problems until about 2 weeks ago (Nov 2015) when the smaller unit burned out the fan motor, and then a week later when the compressor in the 5 ton unit suffered a leak. Both parts were replaced under the manufacturer 10-year parts warranty -- but watch out, because the light you see at the end of the tunnel is another train -- being the labor costs which exceeded $1,000 combined. This is an out-of-pocket expense not covered by the parts warranty. Though I am grateful for the parts warranty, having to spend this much on labor costs to repair 2 separate units that are only 4 years old, is simply not something I would have expected from a product advertised to be built like a train. I paid almost $9,000 for the new units before applying the state energy rebates, and for this price I think I had a right to expect they would operate, free of major malfunction for at least 5 - 7 years before needing major parts replacements. At this rate, I am very concerned that the units wont ever make it to 10 years before they completely fall apart. These Trane units replaced an older model (different manufacturer) that lasted about 16 years. When the time comes to replace it, you can be sure I wont be riding with this Trane again.P.S. -- I asked my installer if they could contact Trane on my behalf for some dispensation, and they politely said they would never get anywhere with that since they are a dealer; instead they suggested that I, as the end-user/consumer contact Trane directly to see if they might assist with some of the labor costs -- after all, mine was not an isolated instance of one bad unit, but rather two units suffering major parts failures within a couple of weeks of each other; however after reading reviews of other folks who had contacted Trane, it seemed very much like it would be a waste of my time, particularly in view of the reaction I got from my dealer, so I chose to just suck it up. But neither will I be a repeat buyer when the time comes. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Purchased the new heat pump in 2014. It replaced a 25+ year old YORK system. Within a year the condenser developed a violent shaking and rattling during a storm. We called an American Standard recommended technician in our area and he said unit developed a leak. We got it fixed at our cost of $600. The unit also has a musty odor called stinky sock smell occasionally when we turn it on...It is disgusting so we installed an ultraviolet light again at our cost....Needless to say our other heater never had any shaking or smells. We contacted American Standard to try to figure out what the problem was with the shaking and smell. We got no answers and told us parts were under warranty but not labor... In 2019 the compressor failed, we replaced that to the tune of 1700 labor costs. A month later another part inside. Within a week a reverse coil part failed. WE contacted American Standard/TRANE to file a complaint regarding the unit and our costs to replace parts. We have maintained the unit and sent a 40 page pdf of a history of maintenance and repairs. So far there has been no response even though we have called several times to find out about our case. Lesson learned. Do not buy a new American Standard/Trane hvac.

Trane heat pump - I purchased this unit from Sears with Sears extended warranty. I dont have all the detailed paperwork at the moment. However, I had several repairs over the years and those were done satisfactorily through Sears. However, the last repair was the compressor. This was approx. one month prior to the warranty expiring. Unit was 10 years old. After struggling with Sears, the unit was finally repaired. However, now one year later, the compressor has now failed again. Since it is past my warranty, I am going to buy a new unit.I had to go pick up my parts - I missed l/2 day of work with no pay to do this. They would not come to my house on Fridays which is my day off. The first visit, there was no repair. The second time they were scheduled to come, they did not show up. And the parts did not show up since I had to meet a truck to pick up my parts. It took me like two months and several calls to Sears to get this repair. When the tech finally came to my house, he was late, lost and there was a thunderstorm in the area (afraid of the bad weather); therefore he did the repair in a haste. All in all, it was a very annoying experience and cost me lost time from work, etc. Im not sure if this complaint is against Sears or Trane, but they work in coordination so both companies are at fault.I have given up and will buy a new unit from more competent companies. In the meantime, I suffer in the heat again this summer just like last summer.

Replaced old furnace in our new home. We had new duct work and the Trane v95 put in, 4 months later the ductwork fell down. Then the burners went out on the furnace, had to be replace after 3 months of use, said our basement was too damp. Had to have it serviced again for continuously running and not heating wasting my propane. They said it was our fault we didnt buy the extra warranty. Not everyone has the money to get that. Once again the burners are not heating one year after repair. Each time this has cost me 179.00, the part was under warranty. I am pretty handy but this is ridiculous. They were rude to us and blamed us. My galvanized ductwork was replaced with the foil foam stuff and I had to make many repairs from the mice eating it. Not to mention it keeps falling down heating and cooling my crawl space. We live in the country. They had a terrible time getting it to work at first. That should have been my first clue... I called home depot about it many times and the service company. When they did come out I ended up doing some of the work. Dont have an order number, bought it through home depot. OH, they are no longer using the company that installed my furnace. Too many complaints...

I purchased a brand new Trane A/C in July 2011. Now, a year and half later, my A/C stopped blowing cold air. I called out the A/C technician and he informed me that there is a manufacture defect in the condenser units coil. The coil rubs against another piece of metal to cause a hole where the Freon leaks out. My coils had actually 2 holes where the Freon was leaking out. They told me that the coil was under warranty but they would have to charge for labor and Freon and this would cost around $700. I contacted Trane and they told me that they have no control over the prices of labor. I told them that I understood that but requested them if they could get me an A/C technician that they would pay to have it replaced and of course, I have gotten the run around. There is an attorney that is doing the investigation for a class action lawsuit. I really think they have a great case. My other issue is if I pay to have the new coil replaced with the coil Trane sends them for free, who’s to say that I dont have the same problem in another year. Have they made modifications on their coil or is it the same design as the one that has already faulted? Trane needs to stop beating around the bush and recall these faulty coils. Otherwise, word of mouth will cause them to loose a lot of business!

We had to replace all the evaporator coils which had completely rusted. Trane refused to acknowledge that this was a latent defect or to offer any remuneration for installation of these three new coils which cost $1800.00. Several other neighbors experienced the same problem on their Trane units which were also high efficiency and installed within three months of my purchase of these units. The parts warranty expires in January 2013. I had asked for an extended warranty which they declined to give me.

I just learned from my dealer the registration did not go thru and I have to pay a lot of money to get a new coil for the inside part of the system. Purchased furnace and AC. Now 2.5 years later Trane says I have no warranty and I will have to pay all the expense. Even other types of junk has at least a year warranty on manufacturing defects. The coil has a hole in it. Which is obviously a manufacturing defect and Trane wont make it good. Product is not what it is advertised as. Its hard to stop a Trane?? Guess it would have to start first. I will never buy any other Trane products and will be sure no one in my family does either.

The second floor air handler was replaced within two months, followed by over 20 service visits by our local Trane installer (who has been great throughout). Since the local distributor has not been able to solve the recurrent coiling failure issues and Trane has not offered to replace the compressor, even though the problem almost always seems to be low refrigerant pressure, our installer has offered to install a comparable new Lennox system for free. Trane has been non-responsive to consumers for such a long time that I cannot believe they can still survive in this business. Never again. Has anyone started a class action against Trane? Repair persons came and had to weld defective joints in several places. Now the units are not cooling again and apparently the joints are detaching again - leaking freon into the atmosphere again. We bought 1.5 year ago new AC system from Trane because the high quality standard (we had in mind). A month ago, after the one year warranty, the air handler started to leak and after consulting the dealer they ordered a new water pan and they did the installation of that pan. But to install a new pan the coil has to taken out. I was watching this all on the side, but when they took out the coil I saw a damaged coil and stopped them from finishing and took pictures of the damage. The dealer finished the job, I paid him.I filed a complaint against Trane. First I found it unfair to let me pay for that renewing of that pan and second about the damage on the coil. They agree to pay for the repair but the damage on the coil they waved that away. I then filed a complaint through the BBB and the answer of Ms. Erin ** (Consumer Relations Supervisor) was, There is no damage to your coil that is not cosmetic. The functionality, life expectancy, and efficiency will not be negatively affected by the bent spine fins on your evaporator coil. The equipment passed inspection because there is no mechanical damage to the equipment! I would like to say to Ms. **, You should be a great car sales women, you will sell me a car with substantial damage and you use the sentence from above. Functionality, life expectancy and efficiency will not be negatively affect your car. Also, sometimes when a product has a dent or a cosmetic damage, the factory or the dealer will give you a discount because of the damage. The worse of this case is that the coil with the damage passed quality control. So there are probably many of those coils in most of your air handlers. We now talk about the high standard quality Trane will allow us to believe.I already suggested to Ms. ** that if she allows this type of damage on their outside condensers (where you can see the coil), I explained to her that this quality of a condenser would never sell. Im seeking now for, first, a apologize for the way they allow to pass coils with substantial damage and just put them in your air handlers, is just wrong. Secondly, because I expected a brand new, not damaged air handler, a discount on the unit or replacement is in order. Because of all this aggravation and the time I have put into this that discount will be at least 50%. If needed I can add the pictures.

I purchased a new air conditioner to replace a 18 year old one. They basically sold me a defective XL 15i. As soon as the tech started up the new unit I asked him why it shook so much. He said that is because Trane went to a 2 blade fan in it. I said that appears to be a stupid decision. For the next 3 years I had to keep tightening screws on it because it would squeak horribly and my neighbors would hear it. So I finally called the installers to have them check it out. After taking it apart they noticed that the fan blade was bent! There is NO way it bent on its own underneath the cover so I know it was that way from the beginning. They said since I did not get the extended warranty it would cost 400 dollars to get a new blade. I said it was like that from the day they installed it. They did not care. I called trane and they said since I did not get the extended warranty it was not covered. The first time it broke down at about one year after installation, Climate Control would not fix it without my signing a long term maintenance agreement, and they were rude and nasty upon my visit. The second time it broke down at 30 months old, I called Trane directly and had horrible customer service. The CSR kept trying to get me to call one of her preselected service providers and sign up for a long term maintenance agreement. The warranty DOES NOT require a maintenance agreement, and all they want to do is sell you more stuff. The A/C unit is a bad unit. Trane needed to simply stand behind their product. $4,800 was my cost.

I purchased a Trane air conditioner in March 2015 and an extended warranty. My ac broke last night August 15, its very hot in Florida in August. I called the company that the extended warranty is with and was told the tech had the night off and wouldnt be able to help me until after 2 pm the next day. What kind of service is that? I purchased Trane and paid more money because I wanted something that would last not break down 5 months later.

My rating is for the heating and air conditioning company whom we purchased the equipment from and contact when repairs need to be made. We have 2 units. The first unit was purchased over 30 year ago and has not needed maintenance at all. The second unit was purchased five years ago and has needed to be repaired.... small repairs, nothing major, and we have been satisfied completely with both units.

When we built our house 8 years ago, the builder insisted on installing a TRANE unit with the suggestion that they were a very reputable company with a good product. In the 8 years weve had it, weve had 4 service calls on this unit, the last one was today and the tech informed me that the cheap copper tubing was rusted through and the condenser was damaged, total cost of repair will run me over $ 2600 to replace the air handler, the coil and filter drier. This is utterly inexcusable. Ive probably spent almost 1500 already on service calls and repairs on an 8 year old unit, pathetic.

I have three 20i, 4 ton, dual fuel heat pumps on my home. The house is 5 years old. All three of these units have had major failures during the 5 year period. Failures include a heat exchangers, two leaking condensers, failed blower motor, failed gas valve, multiple failed circuit boards, failed thermostat, and a total air handler failure which resulted in the entire unit having to be replaced. Two of the failures resulted in the units being down for over a month before parts could be obtained. I have had multiple homes with many different brands of HVAC units. This is my first experience with Trane, and it will be my last. My house was custom built and is toured by many people for construction ideas. When asked if I would change anything, the only thing I advise people to do is stay from Trane HVAC units. When the warranty is up on these three units, I will very likely replace them all with another brand. Its obviously Hard To START A Trane.

When we built our new home 13 years ago, we chose a Trane heating and cooling system. We live in a climate that gets very hot in the summer and way below zero in the winter and our furnace/air conditioner keeps up with all that Mother Nature has to throw at us! Keeping the filters changed and regular maintenance are the only expenses so far.

We had a new 3 1/2 ton heat pump unit installed in 2006. We paid $6035.00 for the heat pump and coil. We started having problems a year later. Every year after weve had problems. Graybeal Air Systems was the company we dealt with. After 5 years, right before the warranty ran out, they replaced the unit with a new one, but no longer honor a warranty. Every year since, we continue to have major repairs. Last year they diagnosed the expansion valve defective and wanted $900 to replace it. Were done. I contacted Graybeal and was told there was nothing more they could do but fix it as needed for the regular charge. I contacted Trane and was essentially told Sorry about your luck. We are again sitting in 90-degree heat with no AC. Im going to call another company to evaluate it but anticipate they suggest another unit. I guarantee it wont be a Trane. My father was in heating and air conditioning until his death and never treated customers this way.

We bought a BIG 5000 sq. ft. 5 br/6 1/2 bath house in foreclosure to renovate. We put 4 brand new, high-efficiency Trane central a/c units because wed always heard Trane was the best and thats what we wanted: pay a bit more than the rest upfront, but get the Best so you wouldnt have to worry as much in the long run... Apparently with the new high-efficiency units, it doesnt quite work that way... We had the house 9 yrs: for the 1st 7 yrs, there literally was not any 6-month period that 1 of the units did not require significant repair service; sure the parts were covered, but not the service calls - it cost us a LOT of extra money. There was a BIG lot next door and a brand new house was built while we lived there. The new owner put in all new Trane units. For the 1st year or 2, there was an a/c service company at that house almost constantly: he and I used to text back and forth rolling our eyes and shaking our heads at whose Trane system was the crappiest. All the service technicians concurred that Trane USED to be the hands-down best, but that things had changed at the top and they were now quite mediocre.

We replaced our entire HVAC system in 2008 with a Trane heat pump and gas furnace. We got a 10 year warranty, which we used extensively. The warranty ran out in February of 2018 and I found out today that the blower motor has burn out, again. Previously the blower motor was replaced under warranty. Now it will cost $1,500 to replace the blower motor. I will never buy another Trane product and wont even buy from a HVAC company that sells Trane.

Went from a 10 to a 14 SEER unit and have nearly cut our cooling bill in half! While the prior unit was also a Trane it was a left over R22 unit to match our condenser, it only lasted just under 10 years. The new unit is a variable speed one and can absolutely freeze your butt for less $ than that old one could just barely keep up! Happy camper. :)

Trane XR15. Terrible Unit. My unit was installed in August of 2018 - biggest mistake I have ever made with a capital purchase. I bought the filtration system for $1500 and that has never worked. I had to buy 6 house air cleaners. I tried to return the unit after 1 year because it had NO dust whatsoever on it but they refused. The heating works just fine. The a/c is a constant nightmare. It just never cools except at night when the temperature goes down. I am out $10,000 and I am going to have to replace this unit because it is absolute junk. I keep having repair come out who find nothing wrong with the unit. So they have disconnected the $1500 air filtration system to see if this will help with cooling the air. I think I am going to call a couple of attorneys and see if they can help me to get a new unit ---- not from Trane but make Trane pay.
