What are the different types of ranges
Posted On: August 30, 2021

Are you in the market for a new range but aren't sure which one is the right one for you? There are three different types of ranges, gas, electric, and a mixture of both called pro-style. Choosing the type depends on your lifestyle and kitchen setup.

  • Gas Ranges: Cooking with gas is becoming popular with many cooks as the flames make it easier to judge the heat levels. Most gas ranges come with four-burner sizes, and one is a high-powered burner and one for simmer. Gas burners do not take as long to heat up. However, they take longer to boil water. They do have an advantage over electric burners. You can use them when the power is out.
  • Electric Ranges: There are two types of electric ranges, smooth top, and induction. Smooth top ranges are the most popular of the two, and most come with a warming center to keep the dishes warm. The difference between the two is the induction range uses magnetic coils that send pulses to the cookware. And when you adjust the heat, it happens immediately. Specialized cookware is recommended when using induction ranges.
  • Pro-style ranges:  These types of ranges are often dual-fuel, meaning they use both gas and electricity. The stovetop is gas, whereas the oven is electric. Pro-style ranges are more expensive than other models because they are made with higher quality materials such as cast iron oven grates and stainless steel bodies.

So when it comes to choosing a new range, you should always look at what you already have. If your kitchen is already equipped with a gas line, you should go with another gas range. And if you have an electric range and want to upgrade, go with either smooth top or induction.

But, if you are looking to spend the extra money for a sleek style range that's of higher quality, take a look at pro-style ranges. And when it comes to replacing your ranges, contact Appliance Helpers. We can help you find an appliance expert in your area.
