What you should know before buying a dishwasher
Posted On: November 1, 2021

When it comes to washing dishes, dishwashers can save you lots of time and even money. If you are thinking of buying a dishwasher, you should know a few things before going out and making that big purchase.

  1. Size: Dishwashers come in different sizes, and your household will determine how big or small a unit you need. Smaller dishwashers, such as 18 inches, are suitable for couples. But if you have a large family, you want to consider a larger unit.
  2. Type: Just like sizes, there are different types of dishwashers. They come in portable, countertop, and built-in. Depending on how much you want to spend, and if you're going to take the unit with you when you move, you may want to consider a portable or countertop.
  3. Energy savers: When shopping around for a dishwasher, you want to consider looking for units with energy star ratings. These dishwashers are equipped with energy saver settings such as quick wash.
  4. Food disposals: This feature is handy, especially for those who don't like to scrape food off the dishes or rinse them before loading them into the unit. Some dishwashers even have self-cleaning filters, while others need to be cleaned by hand. Always check to make sure which one you have, so you can adequately maintain your dishwasher.
  5. Cycles: Today's dishwashers come with many different features, some more than others. Which features you will use the most determines which dishwasher you want to buy.
  6. Features: Along with cycles, dishwashers come with many features such as child locks, tier systems, dirt sensors, stacking, and racks that can be adjusted for dishes, glasses, and even baby bottles. You also may want to consider a quieter model, especially if you plan to run your dishwasher at night.
  7. Style: You may also consider the type of dishwasher. Plastic dishwashers are cheaper but break down easier. Although stainless steel is more expensive, it is considered more pleasing to the eye and will last longer.

These are just a few things to look for before purchasing a dishwasher. It's also essential to research the different brands and how your kitchen is set up. And if you rent, be sure to check if your landlord will allow you to have one.
