WHILE running, does a ductless AC use the same amount of energy, regardless of how low you set it?
Posted On: August 15, 2023

For example, if I set my inverter compresser AC at 72 degrees vs 62 degrees, WHILE it is running, does it use the same amount of energy?

I ask because my AC doesn't shut off regardless of how high I set it, because I have an apartment and it doesn't get to all areas.

Due to this, I'm trying to determine if it's worthwhile to run it as cold as possible or if that'll use more energy.

Question from user lake-show-all-day at Appliances at reddit.

Answer:

Utility company says you increase utility cost by 5% for every degree lower.

High SEER system might be a little less.

It is running longer to get that lower temp.
