AC problem in a brutal heat wave

AC problem in a brutal heat wave
Posted On: July 30, 2023

I am about to lose my mind.

On Thursday night our AC went out and they hope to have a part by Monday.

Well since then since the temp in our house is now over 90 even with fans and keeping lights off as much as possible (though my husband is keeping the living room light on constantly), our refrigerator is going out because the outside temp is creating a need for it to work harder.

The hubby just went out to buy some fans to blow on it and a mini fridge to pull out what we can.

Im afraid to go buy a new one until the air is fixed because I don't want to overwork it right out the gate.

Anyone with suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Question from user crysti1575 at Appliances at reddit.

Answer:

Fans blowing on you will make you feel cooler, but a bunch of running fans will dump more heat in the house.

If the fridge isnt dead, fill it up with ice.

Keep your stuff cold, and with less air space the fridge wont have to cycle as often.

At the bottom of the front of your fridge you might have a plastic grate type thing.

Pull that out and vacuum out any masses of dust bunnies that might be obstructing airflow.

Buy a window unit from a store with a friendly return policy.

Keep it pristine, then return or sell it later.
