I moved into a brand new home in April 2016. I started having issues with my Rheem tankless water heater approximately 5 months after move in. It kept displaying a error code 12. The builder immediately had his plumber come out. We also included the gas provider in attempting to solve the mystery. After very extensive inspection, it was determined there were no issues at all with plumbing of the gas. Rheem sent another plumber out to change the fire rods. That seem to fix the issue. But, the error code returned approximately 2 months later. At that time, they sent another plumber out to do the same thing. Well, here it goes again... The same error code is back. Rheem has been very unresponsive to my requests. My family and I have had to endure this nightmare for a year and a half. Supposedly, we purchased the “top of the line” unit from Rheem. However, the service I’ve received so far doesn’t reflect that at all. Rheem needs to do the right thing, and replace the unit.
Zero stars - save your money & your time. Purchased a hot water heater from this company & two weeks after install, Pilot would not stay lit. Their customer service is garbage & they wont even offer you anything including services you have already paid for. I will never purchase anything with the Rheem name again.
The professional plumber installed a Rheem Professional water heater. Two years later it has failed and its bottom tank leaks. Turns out the thermostats were installed wrong at factory. Rheem claims I or someone else intentionally switched them. Seriously??? Warranty not being honored.
Year 5 and we have had nothing but problems with the unit that was installed Aug 31, 2009. The inside coils had to be replaced after 1year. The Fan Motor control ECM had to be replaced in 2013 - out labor cost of $200. The compressor fan motor had to replaced in Nov 2014 - out Labor cost of $250. They replaced it and 10 minutes later the unit shut down again. Now they are saying that the TXV on the heat pump is causing to short cycle on heat - will again be out Labor of $625. This is a nightmare and all the RHEEM service center says is they are not responsible for labor. WHAT ABOUT putting POOR QUALITY PRODUCT in consumer homes. WARNING to others - RHEEM does not take accountability for bad products.
We had this water heater installed thinking we had gotten the best on the market. However, upon installation, it would not turn on. Found it was a crimped wire when we installed a replacement part they sent us.We have had not real hot water since the installation. Apparently the model XE50T12EC55UO re-positions itself to OFF every time there is power disruption. We live in an area that the energy company has the ability to shut off your hot water tank to save energy as well as have power failures. This means we HAVE to reset our water tank every time or we have no hot water. When we spoke to customer service, we were told that is how the tank works and we should have done our homework before buying the tank - No one expect that from a hot water tank!
$10k paper weight/heat pump. After 27 months our 5 ton 15 seer heat pump failed. We were told the reversing valve failed allowing all of the Freon to leak out. I called customer service who opened a case and told me someone would call me back. I have been waiting 7 business days for the call... I have called back 2 and I am directed to their voicemail. I would not recommend Rheem/Ruud.
I replaced a 16 year old Rheem aircon with a brand spanking new Rheem 16 SEER whole house 21/2 ton aircon. I am going to save energy and have great cooling... or so I thought. It is now 3 and a half years later. I have had to replace TWO air handler motors (now on the third) and yesterday I was told that my control valve and evaporator coil have to be replaced. The gentleman said it will be $500.04 but the spares will be at no cost as it is still under warranty. FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS for labor!!!!!!!!!?????? I have had this aircon regularly serviced, changed the filters every month and looked after it well, from a maintenance point of view. I did not want to give ONE star but that is the lowest I can go. Rheem sucks.
I had a professional install a new water heater. The old one had finally quit working. He installed a Rheem. When he turned the water on and it had time to heat water the first time the pressure valve wouldnt stop leaking. So I called Rheem and after a fight they agreed to send a new pressure valve to me that I installed. That stopped the leaking for a couple years. Still under warranty 4 years later it starts to leak again... I call them back and they wont send another pressure valve out but tell me I have to install a thermal tank? I have the lowest pressure of all my neighbors and none of them have a thermal tank why should I, now, need one? They say if I install a thermal tank and it doesnt fix the problem that it is probably the water tank. What a piss poor company... Never again will I buy or allow a Rheem on my place!!!
I purchased a Hot water Heater from a local Menards. It was installed by a contractor. 2 weeks after installation, the hot water heater started leaking from the bottom, behind one-panel rust was forming and we had no hot water. My contractor and I called Richmond 800 number, only to be told I can not replace the hot water heater, they have to send out someone to install a part they think might be wrong from pictures I sent them. Keep in mind this is winter and we now have to wait 1 week for it to be fixed. So, NO hot water for my family for 1 week.Nothing Rheem will do or could do to assist other than tell me that the people to repair are on their own time frame. The reps I spoke to on the phone were rude and not helpful at all. I am very disappointed, I feel stuck behind a rock because I dont want to pay for someone to fix it and risk not getting reimbursed. If I had to do this over, I would not purchase this type of water heater only due to the dissatisfaction of customer service.
5-year old Ruud on demand water heater cost over $ 2000. Already the computer board has gone bad. Rheem sent a new one but they were supposed to send a technician 7 days ago. I am about to call again. I will post outcome. Do not buy this product!!!
My air conditioner is barely 3 years old and the fan motor on the external air conditioning unit stopped working. A new fan and motor is going to take 7-10 business days to be available due to backorders! It is now 90 degrees in my house! In my non-professional opinion these parts are necessary parts and should be in the inventory. Very disappointed in the follow up customer service (and this unit cost over $5,000.00).
I have RUUD tankless water heater (Model # RUTGH-950VN). On June 25th, 2016, it started leaking continuously. Since customer service was closed for that day (8:30 PM), I called the customer service on the following day! As soon as I told them that the water heater is leaking, they told me to send them the photos of the water heater before any further assistance. Once they received the photos they told me that I have to take the water heater to the dealer, from where I bought it. Since it was under warranty, Ill get a new one from the dealer. On June 27th, my plumber took it to the dealer. Since that model was not in stock, the dealer told me that it will arrive on July 1st, 2016.But on July 1st I came to know that the tankless water heater will only be shipped on 10th July (!!), and the dealer will receive it on July14th, 2016. So I contacted the Rheem customer service to complain. They (a male) told me that they cant do anything about shipping. It is out of their control. I had not hot water for all these days. I waited one more week and again contacted the Rheem customer service on July 6th, 2016. This time a new representative (female) told me that it is unacceptable that I am waiting for the water heater for so long. She told me that the required model is in stock. Since we were expecting the heater by July 14th, there is no point in shipping one more heater directly to the customer. Resigned, I decided to wait for one more week (thankfully it is summer).But July 14th came and went. Still no water heater at the dealer!! So I decided to contact THE CUSTOMER SERVICE again. This time lady told me that they never take care of the shipping and they cant if the heater has shipped from warehouse. I would never buy Rheem water heater again. Meanwhile I am still waiting for the new water heater from Rheem. I still dont have hot water at home and I have three small kids.
Read the reviews, then run as fast as you can to find another supplier. At 15 years old, my old water heater was running fine, but I decided it was time to replace it before it died. I contracted for a Rheem Power Vent unit (a requirement in my situation), which made it quite expensive at $1,300 with installation. It lasted 30 months, and died with what turns out to be a common problem with the valve. The installing contractor sent the repair over to a Rheem specified service organization, who was not very responsive. It took me a day to get a call back, and they totally blew off a 3PM to 7PM arrival window scheduled for the next day, and called 8AM the following day (3 days) acting dumb, and said can we come now? They found the failing valve, but only after I stopped him from leaving, when it started up (as it always does), and the repair guy says see, its working. Sure, just wait 5 minutes for it to start ignition failure recycling every 2 minutes. Finally he saw that, went and got the part, and fixed it. I just got the bill. 3 hours at $125 (should be one hour) and $356 for the Smart Valve. Sure its smart for Rheem and the repair guy. Me, Ive just spent over 1/2 the cost of a new unit, to fix one that is only 30 months old. Where is the warranty?
Please dont purchase a rheem heating/ac unit. I purchased a Rheem unit in November 2014 and my ac unit has already gone out twice this summer. I have been dealing with this problem since April through August 2016. I have had an ac tech person come to my residence on several occasion trying to find out why my ac unit doesnt hold the freon that was put in come to find out it was leaking freon in the coil; the ac tech guy ordered a new coil which I had to pay for the shipping cost and after installation on the new coil it still leaked freon only at a faster level. The freon would go out after 24 hours of being put in the system.I spent a $3500 on this unit only to be a piece of junk, save yourself the time and trouble on the product and dont buy at all. I have already emailed the company they called but no return call at this time. I dont understand why Consumer Affairs doesnt have this product or company pay for the problems it is causing if you read the reviews many people are going through the same problem. This company should not be selling products at all they are already in trouble for selling faulty water heaters.
I hope future customers read and take heed. Dont buy a Rheem hot water heater if you desire a good product and even fair customer service. I have waited since July for a refund check, that I had to pay ($225.00) to the contractor. He refuses to work with RHEEM. I can see why! He only worked on mine because I am a regular customer. Today (2 months later) I called to find out WHEN I should be getting a check. I was told 4-8 MORE weeks. Because I didnt submit my cancelled check with my claim - therefore - it hasnt even been processed. No call from them to tell me I needed to send cancelled checks. That shouldnt be any of their business. SO HERE I SIT - at least I have hot water now, BUT for how long? Who Knows????
Model # 22VR40FN - Water heater needed repair after just a few years of service. Had to pay $235.00 for a tech to repair. Rheem makes you jump through hoops just to try to get a $45.00 parts reimbursement covered by their warranty. Almost 40 minutes on phone, repair invoice from plumber marked paid with our check number on it sent previously but I guess, not enough (insulting), image of both sides of our cancelled check needed as additional proof of repair. So that means more time wasted - special trip to bank to get cancelled check copy. Will never buy a Rheem product again. Never a problem other than age with the other water heaters Ive owned in my lifetime. Generally speaking, theyve all lasted 12-15 years without repair or failure.
We purchased a 40 gallon Rheem water tank at The Home Depot. I installed the device myself. When it was time to start up the water heater, the pilot light would not ignite. I called Rheem and spoke with a representative who walked me through the troubleshooting process. He determined the pilot assembly unit was faulty and that he would send out a new one. This new unit would arrive in two days - which would be Tuesday. The part did not arrive until Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. To make matters worse and prolong our life without hot water, a contracted plumber could not install the new part until Monday, December 2. Our previous water heater lasted for thirteen years without any issues. This Rheem piece of junk couldnt even get started on install! Reading the reviews here, Im concerned about the longevity of this $400+ device weve purchased and am strongly considering removing and returning it to The Home Depot. A greatly disappointed homeowner and customer.
April 25, 2015 my plumber installed a Rheem 40-gallon H2O Heater bought at Marina Del Rey, CA Home Depot at my Santa Monica rental house. The water did not get hot & we assumed it would in several hours. My tenant called me April 27th that the water still was not hot & observed a big water leak coming from the unit. My usual plumber who installed the unit was 100 miles away working & unable to arrive. I called RHS (Reliance Home Services), they arrived in 30 minutes & determined the H2O Heater as defective. My tenant was very upset and demanded emergency replacement now. Reliance informed me they could replace the H2O heater within the hour and guarantee hot water and a working H2O heater. I went online and found other complaints of Home Depot Rheem 40-gallon H2O heater. I always thought Rheem was a good brand. I read Home Depot is purchasing low quality Rheem H2O heaters. I could not take another chance of getting Rheemed by Rheem as other angry Home Depot consumers of Rheem H2O heaters describe their frustration. So I incurred a 2nd H2O heater expense & installation with Reliance for emergency service. Although, the tenant and I were pleased to finally have hot water within the hour! I feel as others that this is totally unacceptable to sell bad products! I was unable to send pics of receipts due to my malfunctioning VZ cellphone!
I bought a Rheem Water Heater from Home Depot and had it installed on 2/9/17. Once it was done, I found leak. After talking to Rheems customer technical support rep, she admitted its a leak from the tank and asked me to return it to Home Depot to get a replacement. I had to spend more time and labor cost to uninstall the 1st one and then reinstall the 2nd one. After that, I have asked for a compensation.Rheems customer service team in April asked me to send proof of payment for services such as a copy of your cancelled check FRONT/BACK or a credit card statement. If paid by cash, please be sure to provide the phone number for technician/company so we can confirm payment with them, which I did through both regular mail and email. But so far I have not heard from them anything. When I called Rheems customer service #, they said they wont handle it. I have to contact their billing department. But they wont provide the contact phone #. I had to BBB to help me, but no result. Cant believe how bad their service is. So next time when you buy a water heater, be very careful!
Purchased brand new 5 ton rheem a/c for my home 5/14/2014. The unit is junk. Replaced so far coil, motor, freon, etc. My wife has heart disease and weve paid out so much $$ and now 2 years later we are still without a/c here in port st lucie, fl. We live in a community of over 2000 homes many, many of which have had same issues with their Rheem a/c. They are junk, junk, junk.
Our family purchased a Rheem water heater in September of 2018. November 30, 2019 it quit working!! We had a plumber out, not knowing what was wrong. After 4 hours of working on it/talking on the phone with Rheem representatives, it was determined that the thermocouple/starter unit would need to be replaced. We were told our part would be shipped out that night! Today, December 4 we received an email that the part was JUST SHIPPED today!! We won’t have water for 2 more days. Pretty tough for a family of 6!!!Rheem replacement parts are not carried by plumbing companies. We also had 4 companies refuse to work on the Rheem water heater, saying they avoid the products! Poorly made product and even worse customer service! We will NEVER purchase another product from this company and we intend to share with all of our friends as well!!
It worked for one day then I had to call for repair, they shipped a part but they wouldnt pay for labor nor had a field service staff to help with. I had to pay for a plumber. 3 days later broke again and Rheem washed their hands off. Basically a brand new water heater that doesnt work. It is not on their radar for customer service. I will never purchase from them again nor I suggest anybody does.
Purchased a Marathon 85 gallon Water Heater from Home Depot and had to wait three weeks for it to be shipped from the east coast of Georgia to Columbus Georgia. After receiving the tank, and getting it installed, the “Vacuum Relief Valve” malfunctioned, saturating my drywall (which I had to replace). Called Rheem and was initially told it would be 5 to 7 days for replacement parts. Having explained my situation, they overnighted the parts. 30 minutes after receiving the NEW PARTS I installed the new Vacuum Relief Valve, and wouldn’t you know it, it Malfunctioned once again all over my drywall. I called Rheem and was informed that I would have to pay out of pocket for an authorized rheem service technician to come out and fix the NEW water heater. So, I remove the hot water tank and returned it back to Home Depot. If you are in the Columbus Georgia area and in need of a large water heater, do not buy a Rheem 85 gallon Marathon hot water heater that is discounted in price. It will cost you more than you know. The Rheem Marathon 85 gallon Water Heater is a piece of Plastic JUNK.
Bought a new electric water heater. The 40 gallon professional series from Home Depot. I am a maintenance man for a living and have installed several water heaters with no problem. Got this one home. Put in new breaker. Installed heater. Never did get hot. Called the number on tank and went thru a checklist. The tech talked me thru and decided the thermostat needed to be replaced. They sent me a new one installed. It same thing doesnt work. Called Home Depot and they delivered another new water heater. Took a $100 dollars off the price. Installed the second one and it doesnt work either. So now Im taking it back to Home Depot and going to purchase different brand. Second time this summer I have bought a major appliance from Home Depot and encountered problems.
Had a plumber install a Rheem 40 gallon propane water heater installed in December 2018. In September 2019 the unit quit working. After several hours on hold and some troubleshooting identified that the internal combustion shut off device had failed. Had a plumber out who confirmed issue and was perplexed with an unusually high amount of soot in the water heater. I explained there was a fire below the burner, which seemed very odd. Once the new part came in we replaced it and it lasted for less than 15 minutes. I then had a second plumber out who checked gas pressure, venting and that everything was installed according to code. We discussed the issue and that Rheem no longer makes good products. We both contact Rheem and explained all the trouble shooting we had done. After an hour on the phone with multiple contacts they finally agreed to send a new burner and internal combustion shut off device.After more than a week of cold showers for this family of six we finally got the parts. New parts were installed and it seemed to work great until today December 1 2019 when the internal combustion shut off device failed again. Been on hold for 45 minutes waiting for customer service. Keep in mind that there has been no change to the venting or the gas pressure. Save yourself some headaches and buy a different brand.
Purchased a water heater from Rheem and it stopped heating after 12 months and 1 week. Rheem said it is out of labor warranty and they will send me replacement parts which they did, but I had to spend additional $298 to have them replaced. DO NOT EVER PURCHASE ANY PRODUCTS FROM RHEEM. Instead, spend a little bit more money on a better product from another manufacturer. Rheem also offers the same crappy products under Ruud, Richmond, Paloma, Solahart, Splendid, and GE.
I have had this water heater for 1-1/2 years and every 6 months have to have the igniter changed. Getting very expensive for the part and labor. I could have bought a new water heater (certainly not a Rheem though). They know they are having a problem with this so why aren’t they fixing it to make their customers happy. This Rheem gas water heater is CRAP. I always thought Rheem had a good name and quality product. Not anymore. Do not buy from this company. Only wish I had researched before I bought it.
The problem I experienced is a serious safety issue and I hope as many people read this and spread the word as possible. My Rheem 40 gallon hot water tank started to leak gas at the Honeywell valve internally. The tank is installed in a small closet which is a confined area in which combustible natural gas can accumulate. When I contacted customer service they tried every way they could to get out of sending a replacement part. Because of my experience and the seriousness of the issue I decided to do a little bit of research and discovered that I am NOT the only individual who has had this problem.I used to install hot water tanks when I was younger with a plumber friend of mine and I can tell you that I have never heard of this issue before. It just did not happen on the older non digital gas valves. I have since found out that these Honeywell gas valves are notorious for breaking down and they are used by many different hot water tank manufacturers. The leakage issue is a serious problem in a confined space natural gas can easily blow up and cause a fire. To make matters worse if you live in the country and use propane which is heavier than air the combustible gas will build up around the combustion chamber making an explosion very likely.These malfunctioning Honeywell valves are all over the internet and YouTube and have been a well known problem by the manufacturers for several years yet nothing seems to be done about them! I would advise people to avoid any tank with these potentially dangerous malfunctioning valves period. I would also advise people to avoid Rheem products in general based on my customer service experience. They should have been happy to replace the valve considering the dangerousness of the situation instead of asking so many questions and trying to get out of it. They dont have the customers best interests in mind based on my experience.A lot of the issues with this companys hot water tanks are with the Honeywell gas valve and malfunctions of said valve. Neither company seems to be interested in fixing this problem. I would stay away from these hot water tanks and these valves in particular if I were you! You just shouldnt have to deal with these kind of problems.
I recently had a new Rheem air conditioner/heat pump installed. The Rheem service partner, Blanton & Sons, did not disclose that the Rheem unit they recommended does not qualify for the federal energy tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act. Further, the contractor indicated Rheem does not have equipment that meets the SEER2 rating requirements for the tax credit. BUYER BEWARE! The tax credit for a split unit is $2,000, so be sure you get equipment that qualifies for this credit. Don’t trust Rheem or their service partner to disclose their noncompliance before you agree to install a unit. Consider other manufacturers.
Our water heater has been in service for roughly 1 year and has developed a leak in the heat exchanger. Rheem advertises a 12 year warranty on the heat exchanger, but they have denied my warranty claim. They have my money, so they are content to find excuses to deny claims rather than stand behind their products. Almost $2,000 down the drain. Now I have a piece of junk to dispose of and extra plumbing to decide what to do with. I will never again buy a Rheem product. Buyer beware. Other companies seem to have higher customer satisfaction. I would strongly recommend buying from one of those other companies.
Hands down the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with in my lifetime. Not only do they have you holding on the phone for hours and when I mean hours I mean whole hours, they cant even assist or communicate reimbursement procedure effectively. After being told by one representative that he would be sending an email with how to submit for reimbursement within hours, I had to call back after a few days to advise I did not receive such email. Another rep advised the reason I didnt receive the email was that they did not have the necessary voucher to send...so why not say that from the first call or someone reach out me to advise instead of me waiting on an email that was never to arrive. As we speak Im literally on hold for what seems like another hour just to speak to a manager. P.s. This is all due to a defective part on a water heater that was installed less than year ago.
If you thinking getting a tankless water tank think about it. It can take up to 75 second to get hot water, if you do not have a recirculation loop in your house forget it. The Rheem does not have a buffer tank in the unit. You will have to get install a recirculation pump and a mini water tank beside to keep a certain quantity of hot water to be use until the tank warm up the rest of the water you need.But if you go for Navien NPE series you will need just the recirculation loop. That brand have the buffer tank inside the unit. And you have a app to change the temperature of the water from anywhere is your house. If I knew that I would go for that one and the price is less than Rheem and better guarantee. Do not trust any sale rep who come to your home. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU GO FOR ANY TANKLESS WATER TANK. AND KNOW YOUR HOUSE PLUMBING.
We purchased a hot water heater in 2011. The water heater is still under warranty. Spoke with Rheem representative. They said the heating elements went bad. They were supposed to send out new ones last Friday, overnight express. Waited until Tuesday to call them back. They said they were in transit. Delay was due to them not shipping until Monday. Waited until the following Monday. Still no heating elements. Checked with Fed Ex - they sent them back to the company... they had the wrong address or something. Tried calling the RHEEM number, 1 800 HEATER3. Try going to warranty department and it says call can not be completed. Call back later. Been trying all day. Very poor customer service. Would recommend staying away from Rheem heaters.
Had to call a week after our water heater was installed because of a bad flammable gas sensor. The plumber said they have the part but because were under warranty we have to wait for the warranty people to send us a part. Then the warranty guy tries telling my wife that its a easy fix and that she can replace it. Doesnt warranty mean they cover all labor and part cost?? I feel like the the plumber is supposed to fix the problem then submit a warranty claim. Not the other way around.
Wish I had not bought the Rheem Water Heater from Home Depot! Top heating element failed within 3 weeks. I am still in warranty on all parts and labor, but have had to wait 4 days to receive the part. Customer service at Rheem promised me they would order the labor. The day I called so the part could be installed as soon as it arrived. That did not happen. So now, day 4 - I finally have the part but now have to wait another day before a technician can come out and fix it. It will be 5 Days with no hot water! On a brand new heater. I did my research too late, apparently this is a common problem with Rheem Heaters. I would not recommend purchasing it, especially from Home Depot. I hope this review saves someone else from going through what Im dealing with!
NEVER BUY A RHEEM HOT WATER HEATER. We bought a 40 gallon Rheem hot water heater from Home Depot. After 2 weeks we awoke with the house full of fumes and the carbon monoxide alarm was sounding. Here is my experience: 1. They dont actually have technical support. What they have is untrained people, without any actual experience reading a script from a manual. 2. If you have the same issue 2 or 102 times they will repeat the same painstaking process each time as though you never had the problem before. 3. If you ask to speak with a supervisor, they are basically hired to ** the customers and duck liability.About me: I just completed building a duplex single handed. Foundation, framing, electric service, gas service etc. I have done my own HVAC and H2O heaters in my own homes and apt buildings for 40+ years. My workmanship is excellent and take pride in getting it right the first time, every time. So after only a few weeks operation, an H2O heater comes close to killing my wife and myself I call the company. After very frustrating phone calls, they send out a tech. After 45 minutes, without checking gas pressures, or pressure switch or actually doing any diagnostics he resets the controller, starts the heater and leaves. 15 minutes later it is in lockout. More calls, nobody listening to the CO/fume issue, they decide to send a new pilot assembly. There is zero possibility of this fixing a draft problem, but it is the cheapest part they could send. So, their solution is to send a 15$ part that wont fix the issue and turn the thing back on and see if it poisons us again.I declined that solution. They said that was all they were willing to do. Home Depot has said they will replace or give store credit which would be acceptable, but we will see if that follows through. One of the HD workers says he gets a very high return rate on the Rheem unit so my guess is HD will stop selling these in a year or two. In short, Rheems response to a critical, even life threatening situation is completely inadequate, technical assistance is less than what any handyman could find on the web in a couple of minutes, and at 1/10 the aggravation.Another issue (might be the same issue) is the bearings in the blower are awful noisy for a new unit. Rheem used to be a good dependable brand and I still have 3 of their older furnaces installed which I have been mostly satisfied with the exception of the cheap bearings they put in the induction blowers. I wont be buying Rheem/Rudd units again unless they have exceptional reviews.
My A.O. Smith water heater began to leak so I went to Home Depot and purchased a 50-gallon electric heater. I installed it and turned it on. Everything seemed normal but the next morning as I was checking it for leaks, I noticed water on the very top of the heater. I thought it was one of my connections but upon further inspection found it to be coming from under the cap. I tightened the two nipples that were mounted by the factory and tightened my home connections. The next day there was water again. I called Rheem and they sent out a plumber and he installed two new nipples sent from Rheem. The next day more leaks. Rheem told me to take it back to HD and they would pay the plumber to take it. He brought a new tank and installed yesterday and this morning there was water all over the top! This is nothing but faulty manufacturing! Two tanks in a row that leak internally? Something is wrong with Rheem. I asked the Rheem rep if they had a problem with certain models and he said no.
I had a new 50 gal electric hot water tank install with a 2 year in home 12 year warranty. Unit heated water but only produced about 5 minutes of water. I called Rheem and rep. said a company would contact me for repair. A week later no one had called so I called Rheem rep. Said he had no notes about this and said I would have to hire contractor. I ask to talk to supervisor and was just parked on hold. I hired plumber and repair person tested all parts and said electronic brain was bad. No parts were available from any supply house and Rheem was not answering phone. I talked Home Depot into an exchange and I got new electronic brain. I still have same problem and have been on hold for 30 min. now. They say I have $125 limit for in home repairs and I have two trips for repair now. New brain being sent. 6 hours of time dealing with this. Over 2 hours on hold and a hour just calling with no answer. New unit still not working correct for a month. I own many rental homes and this is poor service...
WARNING - Be sure to register your Rheem Heat Pump. Without registration, you lose 5 years of your 10 year warranty. BETTER YET... DO NOT BUY RHEEM. If I could zero or negative star I would. My installer did not register my unit 7 years ago nor did I. I was not given a registration card to mail in. For the past 4 years, Ive had 5 techs here to work on my unit. Made a horrible loud banging noise that would wake us up at night. The blower motor was replaced. See-cell warped fan blade on condenser replaced. Thermostat replaced. Added 2 lb. of freon... All to no avail. Now the compressor is gone.I had AEP out when I got a $400.00 electric bill. They said air was not circulating evenly throughout- kept the unit running continuously. I had to close of 3 rooms to afford my electric bill. I mailed Rheem Corporation a copy of my dated bill, installation date, model #, serial # and copy of my 10 year warranty. Their reply was ... Sorry.. Theres no registration recorded, your warranty is gone. So Rheem Corporation is gone for me. My friend also purchased a Rheem heat pump and her unit is having the same problems. DO NOT BUY RHEEM.
For those who do not like to read long reviews, all I can say is that I cannot be more disappointed than I am with Rheem. Simply DO NOT buy a Rheem product, unless you like dealing with a product of marginal quality, and a customer support team that is beyond incompetent. Early in 2017 our 40 gal water heater needed to be replaced. We went to a local store and found a nice Rheem (or so we thought) gas water heater. Had it installed professionally, good to go. Soon after installation, every time the burner lit, there would be a loud bang of a small gas explosion. We called Rheem, and they said they ...have no technicians in the area, call a local plumber to look at it and well reimburse you. OK. We did as directed. The plumber came over and suggested a complete replacement of the burner assembly. Rheem declined, and sent only a small part. It didnt fix the problem. Another call to Rheem. And another. And another, with repeated visits by the plumber. Finally, after three months of back-and-forth, Rheem sent a full burner assembly. It fixed the problem. We then read the instructions on how to get reimbursed. It was quite complicated, and required all sorts of paperwork, including a W-9 from the plumber (even though Rheem must have had records of all calls and directions). I submitted the paperwork via email. I waited. And waited. No acknowledgment of receipt of paperwork. I called Rheem. After being put on hold for 1/2 hour, I finally talked to a representative. They claim that my reimbursement had never arrived (this is email, folks, if it doesnt arrive, you get a bounce-back message). I patiently resubmitted the paperwork via email. And waited. And waited. I called again 2 months later. By this time the fun had dragged on for 5 months. The rep said that the paperwork had been received, but that it was under review and a decision would be made whether or not to refund within 6 weeks. Six weeks passed. No check. The clock is now at 6 1/2 months in this story. At about 8 weeks, I tried calling again. The customer service option when calling Rheem was disconnected. I tried calling the contractor line, but they would not talk to me unless I had a contractor license number. I told them that the residential customer line was disconnected, and they babbled something about a technical problem. Right. Sure... I went to the plumber and asked for assistance. They called the contractor line, spoke to someone, and that person said the check would be sent immediately, and that there had been a problem with the paperwork I had sent (they had never told me this).When the plumber asked what the problem was, the Rheem representative couldnt be specific. At this point I was getting ready to go to small claims court. Three weeks after the plumbers call, the check finally arrived. Ive deposited it, and, based on historical activities, have my fingers crossed that it doesnt bounce. In the end, Rheem reimbursed us over $600 for repairs to an $800 water heater. If they had just authorized the full burner assembly requested at the first call, it would have been closer to $150. I have dealt with terrible customer service in my past, but this is a new low. And sadly, from what I understand, this is a more common occurrence than any decent company should allow. DO NOT BUY RHEEM!! By the way, the technical issue with the residential customer service line is still on-going, 4 weeks after I first encountered it. Pathetic.
In the span of 2 years, Ive had two Rheem Water Heaters. Both failed on me. One was a hybrid. It worked fine for about a year 1/2 then failed. After working with Rheem support which is horrible, I took it back to home depot and got a replacement. The replacement was a Rheem Gladiator series. My plumber installed the replacement heater and that one failed within about 3 months time. I will never buy a Rheem heater again.
I hired a licensed contractor to install a new Rheem water heater. After 6 months the new water heater leaked, it had a crack in the tank. The contractor replaced the water heater under warranty. A Couple months later the water heater failed. I contacted Rheem and they sent parts to my house and contacted their approved/authorized contractor to replace the parts. When the repair was made, their contractor dented in the side of the tank. When I contacted Rheem they told me it is not their problem and that I need to take it up with their contractor and that I would never be able to prove it. Their contractor does not respond to any forms of communication. The Rheem representative were very rude and unprofessional. So I paid ~$2,000 for a damaged, unsightly water heater. Plus, is it safe? Will the damage cause the tank to rupture or leak hot water?
I bought a Rheem heating and air unit back in 200. The whole thing is going out now. Had a warranty for 5 years. Shortly after the warranty expires have to put a new fan motor. The electric component on a side went out and now the compressor is out which run anywhere between 1700 and $3,000 and theyre saying that my condenser looks like it might be going out so I need a whole new unit on top of all this. My heater motor bearings are going out so now I need a whole new unit.Poor customer service from Hannah here in Andover, Kansas. Ive read a lot of customer complaints. It seems to me these the Rheem manufacturers cannot get their act together so its time for somebody to do something. A new unit could cost me between $5,000 to $6,500 and up not including the parts and labor that Ive already paid for poor quality parts. What is anybody going to do about this? I purchased an electric 30 gallon hot water heater from home depot (Plymouth meeting,pa.) 06 Oct 2019. After plumbing the lines and filling the tank, the heater leaked from the bottom. I called Rheem and I had one of two options. Repair it myself and get reimbursed or wait 2 days for Rheem to send a part. Why should I work on a new unit I just purchased? Didnt like either option so I called home depot and they allowed me to return it for a refund. In my stupidity, I purchased another unit, same as the first one because the copper lines were already plumbed. Yes, you got it, the 2nd heater leaked, this time from the top. Everybody is so concerned with American made products, this company is located in Alabama. Called the warranty dept and this time they tell me to remove the pressure relief valve and wrap it with Teflon tape. How difficult would it be to test the product before selling it to the public? I purchased my air conditioner from Lindstrom here in Delray Beach Fla... After only 3 years the coils went bad... I was told by Lindstrom that Rheem had been having problems with coils. My parts were under warranty but the labor would be $700.00. I lived in Pennsylvania where most people have Carrier Units... having had 4 different homes, I have never had a problem with an air conditioner unless it hit the 15 yr mark... I am sorry that I purchased a Rheem and will continue to tell others on social media... I am irate that Lindstrom continues to do business with Rheem and I believe that their business will suffer because of unhappy customers if they continue to do so....living on Social Security, I will continue to try to warn others so that they wont have this happen to them...
Rheem water heaters are very poor quality and you will end up with failures way the life of the heater. It is made in Mexico and the parts break continually. I bought my gas water heater 12-30-2011 and in May of 2014 it failed. They recommended a repairman and he charged more than a new heater to fix it. The parts broke again a month later, same repairman came and changed multiple parts again (lucky no charge this time). Less than a month later, the parts failed again. Repairman came out and refused to replace the parts, said it wasnt up to code and theyd fail again. Wanted $2300 to put in a new one, yea right. Contacted GE whose label and they air freighted in new parts. Got a new plumber GE recommended and the guy put them in and couldnt get it to work, put in another one on the spot and still couldnt get it to work. Contacted them and got nowhere. DO NOT BUY ANY RHEEM PRODUCT OR GE. You will get ripped off and be writing in like I am. They are made in Mexico and the quality has suffered. All the repair people know about it. BUYER BEWARE!!!!
Purchased a Rheem hot water tank and had it installed August 2020. It is now mid December 2020, and the hot water is running out in short time. This was due to the bottom heating element failing. Rheem’s warranty at this point is full parts and full labor. Called Rheem and after a few transfers I was finally given a service approval. Their plumber did call the next day and they did show up the following day. The tech tested the bottom element and stated the element faired due to Dry Fire. I know this was not the case. The electric was only turned back on after the tank was filled and the water lines had the air evacuated. I mentioned these details to the service tech, and he gives me this other BS explanation about if the tank was left outside to long when it was being installed-the sun can heat up the element- bla, bla, bla....Here is the bottom line. Things can break for no reason other than it has an issue, maybe during manufacturing but if a company offers a warranty then they should honor it! Rheem did not for me. Hopefully if you buy something from them and you have an issue they will honor their commitments. Rheem shame on you. PS- I fixed it myself- took all of 10 minutes once the tank was drained. The service tech took more time talking to Rheem and writing up if excuse than it took to do the work. Im also a Builder of 30+ years so I has completed my share of hot water tank installs.
I purchased a new water heater from Rheem and had it installed. I never got hot water and it took almost 2 weeks for Rheem to give me a new one. Customer Service was horrific and the most incompetent people I have ever had to deal with. I spoke with them and told them that my water heater has never worked and they shipped out part after part and finally gave me a new one. My family was in a new place and had no hot water for almost 2 weeks!! There was nothing but an, Oops, Im sorry. from Rheem. I have never been so dissatisfied and so infuriated at a company before in my life! I will never buy anything from Rheem again. I suggest everyone save their money and buy from anyone but Rheem!!
First of all, because this is a new tank, the parts are not available in stores or from suppliers. And of course it always works out that things quit on a Thursday or Friday. That said after a misdiagnosis they sent me a part that worked for one day then quit but being the person I am, I dug farther and found that what they said was broken and the part that was broken were two different things. They sent me the assembly for the igniter, the problem was a cheap weld job on the circuit board. A piece fell off and I resoldered it which fixed the problem but created another. They wont send me a new part under warranty as I modified it in their words. I never heard such a crack but anything to not have to warranty something. Moral of the story is buy a reputable brand with parts that can be purchased off the shelf. When youre out a thousand bucks and have no hot water, youll remember this if you buy what I bought. Purchase brand new water heater from HOME DEPOT. Had it installed correctly. It leaked. Submitted pictures to Rheem and they said it was a manufacturers defect and gave me $250 to get it unhooked, returned and a new one installed! $250, in their own words, is the National Average for reinstallation. No plumber would even unhook it for $250 let alone install a new one. We live in Mississippi, not New York or LA. Surely, the National Average would suffice here. Ive spent $300 to get it installed, another $300 to get it returned and another $300 to get it reinstalled. And all they can give through their warranty program is $250. Its their poor workmanship that caused all of it. NEVER BUYING THIS AGAIN. DECIDED TO GO WITH AN AO SMITH WATER HEATER. GREAT QUALITY!!!
I had 2 Rheem HVAC units oGas/AC) installed in my home in May 2014. One unit is for upstairs, the other for downstairs. In October 2018, the downstairs unit would not cool properly, low on freon, technician added freon and a sealant to hopefully seal the leak in the A coil. Then May 2019 the upstairs unit A coil had to be replaced. Now today June 24, 2019, the downstairs unit A coil has to be replaced (guess the sealant did not work). By the way, according to the technician who installed the unit and did the repairs, in the upstairs unit stated that the warranty did not cover or expired?? Do money out of my pocket for PART & labor.Now today the downstairs unit needs A coil replaced. I contacted the technician today and gave him a rundown on the dates, charges, and work done over the last (barely) 5 years since the install of these units and asked if these units didnt have at least a 5 year warranty? Note.... The company that installed the units amis the same one that services them. Researching in the internet, it appears that many units are warrantied for at least 5 years, some 10, 12 years or more. So, in my opinion, go purchase another brand of HVAC.... Stay away from Rheem. Check the warranty and get it in writing before you decide to have it installed.
I probably need to replace the Rheem water heater installed in new house in 1974. Its still working with only heating elements being replaced a couple of times. But reviews I read online about newer water heaters of any brand has me wondering if I should just hang in there!
Cant I get no stars? My water heater broke (leaking) after 5.8 years. It is still under Rheem warranty, so I called Rheem and they said I had to take the water heater back to where it was purchased to get credit or a replacement. I cant remember where it was purchase and I cannot even lift the water heater. My plumber is not willing to take the heater to where it was purchased without charging me the time which is substantial. So Rheem wont honor the warranty unless I bring the whole water heater, this makes no sense. In essence they are saying if I cant carry the water heater into the place it was purchased I can get reimbursed. What is that but a sham! I will never purchase a Rheem product again!
I bought a Rheem water heater and the tank started leaking 5 years later. It says that it has a 12 year warranty, but they will not cover the warranty. What a terrible Product to start leaking so fast, and it was professionally installed by Home Depot. Their reasoning for not covering the warranty is suspicious and it seems like the warranty departments job is just to argue the ability to cover it. What a joke!
On August 1 2012 I purchased a Rheem HVAC system for my home. It cost $5000. I had it installed by a Rheem certified AC company who SOLD the system to me. I had it serviced per the manufacturers advice. There is a 10-year parts, 1 year labor warranty. EXACTLY 2 years to the day, the blower motor died! Yes, the part was guaranteed BUT I had to pay almost $400 in labor! The tech told me they were having issues with this motor... produced in Mexico. OUTRAGEOUS. An almost 1 year long attempt to get some kind of response from Rheem ensued. I finally wrote the CEO at his Palace near Atlanta. Some corporate puppet with a horrible attitude did ring me. He was reading a script and rudely informed me there was nothing Rheem would do for me. I thanked him for wasting his and my time. Fast forward... 1.5 years later, I HAVE NO AC AND NO HEAT... during a cold spell in Boca Raton, Fl. I called the service company. The tech arrives and immediately tells me, Its working! No surprise there. Well, 2 hours later he proceeds to tell me, Well, in Florida, sometimes the pressure does something to the system, which makes it not function. WHAT!!! So, he fixes the AC part but tells me now I dont have any HEAT! It was 62 in the house. You can buy a heater for $340. Wait I minute!!! I paid for a system that DID give me heat, and now youre telling me I dont have heat, cant have it with this system and the Florida weather is to blame? GIVE ME A BREAK!! So in essence the product was KNOWINGLY sold in a climate that causes it to malfunction. This is pure crap! I am reporting this to my congressperson, who has in the past achieved GREAT results for me! I, like millions of us are SICK AND TIRED OF GETTING RIPPED OFF BY WALL STREET!!! They make this ** in other countries where they pay nothing to these people and charge their FELLOW AMERICANS a price that reflects AMERICAN WAGES, so their evil CEOs etc. can make millions! NO COMPANY SHOULD BE PERMITTED TO SELL PRODUCTS THAT ARE CLEARLY NOT SUITED FOR THE CLIMATE where they are selling it! Dont buy any Rheem Product whatsoever!!! They are pigs!!! I wish a bunch of us could get together and file a class action suit against them. My last ditch effort is to tell the service company, Quality First AC in Pompano Beach, FL that I want a whole new system because they are telling me it is only working 50% since I no longer have heat and I paid for heat. The parts ARE guaranteed right!!! America... Its Ill screw you before you screw me these days. Too bad.
New Rheem heat pump installed on 5/2012. Polar Bear Heat & Cooling warrantied this unit in writing parts and labor 12 months. Parts warrantied for ten years. The compressor failed after ten months. Polar Bear would not repair the unit unless I gave them $400 upfront for lost freon. They said Rheem would not compensate them for freon. I phoned Rheem customer service regarding that and they said they do not cover lost freon. Tough luck! Wife is ill and coming home from rehab in that period. I must have heat and cooling. I was forced to cough up $400 or Polar Bear would not repair. Gun to head. Attorney General Office in Florida fluffed me off and told me to get a lawyer that they dont handle private cases. BBB involved but they have no authority, only a token part. I dread the next ten years with Rheem if it lasts that long.
We replace a water heater April 2015 with a Rheem electric tank in our vacation rental. Sept 2016 our tenant called us to say there was no hot water. Couldnt believe it. We had a plumber attend the condo to find out that the wires on top of the water heater were fried. We needed a new hot water heater of course. This happened on a Saturday and Rheems office was closed.I called Rheem on Monday for them to tell me I had to go through who I purchased the hot water tank through which was Home Depot. A representative at Rheem told me they would reimburse the labour to install the new tank. Im still waiting as of today being February 13, 2017. Rheem has the worst customer service I have ever had. They tell me someone will call me back in a day or so. They tell me it takes 6 to 8 weeks for an answer. Wow its now been 6 months and still no answer. I am so done with them. NEVER PURCHASE A RHEEM PRODUCT!!!
We purchased a hot water heater on December 6th, 2017 and it stopped working on December 19th, 2017. We called Rheem on the 20th and they dispatched a plumber to come out on the 21st, he showed up on the 22nd. He started up the unit and said we needed new parts and he would call Rheem to let them know which parts need to be shipped to the house. I called Rheem on Friday the 29th because the unit stopped producing hot water again and the parts were never ordered. Weve been without hot water since Friday the 29th. Hold time to speak to customer service is 40 minutes. Ive been calling everyday 2 to 3 times a day to see if the parts were ordered and still have no answer. Its -6 degrees and Ive been without hot water for 5 full days. Not acceptable! I would never recommend Rheem products to anyone! I understand that the unit itself failed but customer service is ridiculous!
There are lots of problems at the start. Finally, it was fixed after Rheem sent a man from the home office. it worked for four years then went to heck. The cost to me at this point is over $1800 from their techs out of Denver and plumbers in the Greeley area trying to fix them. Rheem sent one new unit out but not enough pipe to install, and then I was informed that I was going to have to tear out part of my finished home to install and they wanted me to install the 1st unit before they replaced the 2nd. What a mess, and thousands to install. Now the head tech at Rheem, Mr. Daniel **, has been dragging this out; hes not returning phones and doing nothing to help me. Hes not even giving me an answer to what they will do. I am so sick of this. So very much money to buy and install at the start and now there is no hot water and more and more costs, all because Rheem 1st tankless system and venting was not right, so you, the homeowner, must figure out how to get hot water in the home where there is no place/room to install, no electric or water or gas lines to change to some other type of heat. Just tear down a new home and pay thousands of dollars to get hot water.
Please before you buy a Rheem HVAC, research the quality of their coils. A year after purchasing a new system I have been experiencing dirty sock syndrome. It is a known issue with the coil and there is a known fix, the coils need to be dipped with in a bronzing solution or an epoxy. This prevents mold and bacteria buildup on the coils and then spewing the spores throughout your home. Rheem calls it an environmental issue and refuses to reimburse for the costs to have the problem remedied. After installation either a UV light or a Global Plasma System at my expense, my issue may be resolved, again Rheem refuses to reimburse my costs. I am also reading that their coils have a problem with corrosion and failure, once again a problem corrected by dipping to prevent the corrosion. Buyer beware, the limited warranty is just that, extremely limited, no labor to replace defective parts, no Freon replacement costs on defective equipment, no labor to correct their known issue with dirty sock syndrome. I guess they think these things just magically fix themselves. I bought my unit from an authorized Rheem dealer and was told these were some of the best units on the market.
I purchased a tankless water heater from Rheem and after the install was completed it did not stay on always shutting off at no particular time or reason. Rheem sent off many parts and I had many service calls to put the new parts on at my cost. Then two and half years went by and I thought that all of the parts that were defective had been replaced. No, the unit started shutting down again. Then, Rheem replaced the unit but would not reimburse me for the labor to install the new one. I waited sixteen weeks for them to finally tell me that they would not give me a dime for the cost of their defective produce. I had been in contact with them throughout that time period and they had asked for all of my paper work. They had such an extensive file on this case that they had given it two different case numbers over the years. In conclusion I would not recommend dealing with this company they have a bad public relation policy. Jessica
WE had a Rheem water heater installed on December 3, 2020. Almost immediately, the water smelled of rotten eggs. We have softened water and it is not from a well. No problems like this with our previous Whirlpool water heater. Rheem says we need to replace the anode rod and are giving us no help at all. So, we need to pay for a plumber to fix this problem on a brand new water heater. VERY disappointing.
Well bought a water heater July 2020. Now Oct 7 pilot light won’t stay lit. Called company that installed it and they came out and said there is recall for these Rheem water heaters. Unit made in 2020 had a gas valve made incorrectly (also made in China). Rheem notified its vendors and sent kits (made in USA) to repair issue. These we to be install free as they went bad. What is needed is the new control module and new burner to match. Techs are replacing now. So I guess In a year we’ll know if works.I post this because I read a lot of self installers talking to Rheem and just replace certain parts. Since the gas control module is paired burner you need both. The China made one the open for the gas was too small and would start to fail after 6 months to a year. So if youre just replacing the one part it’s a mismatch. And will still give you trouble. It really the match of thermal coupler to the Burner but they changed it anyway.
I paid $5,200 cash by check for a new Rheem HVAC install to ARS RDU, NC on 9/23/14. The unit failed on 6/27/15. Was told not enough coolant was installed. The unit failed again nine days later on 7/6/15. Replaced the TXV valve. Now on 5/27/16, ten months later, the unit has failed again and is being worked on by ARS a third time after having the system under a service plan visit on 11/12/15. I have been told twice that sometimes you just get a bad machine like you do a bad car. Is that the best customer response that ARS and RHEEM can do? REALLY! Was my money bad and therefore I was given a bad HVAC? If my money was good, I should be given a good HVAC. I would like to know the best point of contact I can make to air my grievances and wanted to warn others about my experience.
Buyer beware. Paperwork that came w/ hot water heater says it has 9 year warranty. Failed after 6-1/2 years (tank leaked/not fixable). Escalated issue to Customer service Supervisor, said warranty only 6 yrs. Not covered and nothing they could do. Wasted 6 phone calls to company to try to get them to issue me some coverage under warranty. Somehow it was my problem that the paperwork that came with my hot water heater was wrong and I was suppose to know this.
Bought a 40 gallon Rheem water heater and installed, couldnt get it to work. Called the gas company thinking it was a problem with our gas. Not the issue. Called Rheem and they sent a part (that wasnt the issue either). Called them again to exchange the water heater and they said no, that if it was giving a code it could be fixed. In the meantime we were having to go to family homes to take showers. They gave us a reset code to try to reset it. It worked for 4 hours then went out again. Tried to reset it again with code and the damn heater blew up 6 inches from my husbands face. Lucky he was not injured. Called customer service, very pissed and they told my husband they would disconnect the call if he didnt settle down, didnt even ask if he was OK.. Finally got sent to claims. After 10 days of having this thing we are getting q code to exchange... Not Happy!!!
I had a Rheem water heater in my new house, only 3 1/2 years old. It ended up being defective and needing replacement. It was very difficult getting any assistance in replacing it. I found a plumber to assist with the installation. I found the wholesaler where my builder purchased the water heater. After 9 months dealing with the wholesaler, I finally was able to get a water heater. I paid the plumber $550.00 for installation, knowing that Rheem would likely cut me a check for this cost. Found out, Rheem was going to let me eat this cost. I would not have incurred this cost if it were NOT for a defective water heater. I was told by a Rheem representative that this cost is not in the warranty. Sorry but very poor business. I will not purchase or recommend any Rheem products because of this.
Had a Rheem air conditioner 2 ton 16 SEER installed, but very unhappy. It runs every 8 minutes and the air never feels crisp, only humid. Im worried about having mold and electric bill being higher since it runs so much. Wouldnt have done this had I known about the new rheems.
Water heater (electric) dead after 4 years of use and flooded our garage. Rheem will not give any sort of credit or reimbursement for a new unit as they say it can only be returned to a plumbing supply store. They can not or will not deal with the public. No way to get a credit even with me willing to pay for a new one. Bad company, bad product. The Rheem AC in my office also went bad after 9 months, theyve garbage as well. Spend a few extra bucks for equipment that will last longer and a company that will stand behind their product.
I bought a Rheem gas hot water tank in middle of November 2020 and by mid June the pilot and burner stopped working. Called and waited on the phone for about an hour to get warranty and they shipped parts took about a week but they didn’t have a technician so I paid $350 for a company to come replace the parts. The parts worked for about month and now again I’m out of hot water and still waiting for them to refund the money I spent because they didn’t have a technician even though parts and labor were both under warranty. After 2 hours on the phone again they are sending someone in 10 days that is out of state to come look at the tank. After talking to a few other people who purchased Rheem products I would not recommend as they all had the same problems. In the 9 months I’ve owned the hot water tank I have been out of hot water for a month, missed work to wait on a plumber, spent $350 out of my own pocket, and lost hours on the phone. Plus after complaining and contacting them multiple times I am now getting emails saying they would only refund $250 and then an email the day after saying only $150 which are both contradictory of what they said. They do not care about products quality or show any care for their customers. Highly recommend going somewhere else for all products especially hot water tanks.
Bought this from Home Depot just less than a year ago. Gas valve went out last Wednesday. Big sticker on front of water heater says not to return to Home Depot but to call their 800 number. Over the past 6 days I have spent a minimum of 5 hours on hold waiting for them. While this is still under warranty (parts & labor) you will have to pay $30 if you want your part expedited (whatever that means, as the part is STILL not here on day 6). Worst customer service EVER. I was told you knew what the problem was...the panel blinking lights told you. Your email with the tracking number mustve gone into your spam folder. Among please hold like 20 times. Six days after the gas valve went out, I am still waiting for them to actually get the part to FedEx for shipping...They have received shipping info, but not the part to send out. I understand that once the part is here in CA, in my hand I can call their contracted plumbers to come install it. They absolutely wont set up an appointment until the part arrives (apparently they know how RHEEM customer service works). Then I will have to wait 2-4 days for the plumber to come. I can contact my own plumber, but will have to pay them and then get reimbursed...Doesnt sound promising. Strongly suggest you look at another brand.
3-year-old 5-ton HVAC system in new home. Core had to be replaced in just 2 years. A/C is out again in only a few months. Poorly constructed cores and Rheem is VERY aware of this problem. The replacement core that Rheem uses DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. You have been warned.
The adjustment dial and power switch located at the bottom of the gas water heater has no way to prevent a toddler or incidental contact from adjusting the dial. This is a huge red flag for me where it can easily be turned to the max temperature and can lead to burns. I called Rheem to see if they have a cover or anything that can limit access to the controls and was told that this is not a safety concern or a manufacturer defect and there is nothing that they will do to resolve the concern. I assume it is my 18 month old daughter that is playing with the dial, turning it to the maximum temperature setting, but it could as easily be changed by something inadvertently rubbing on the dial. My home was built in the 70s and the water heater is located in the laundry room, not in a dedicated closet, so it does have more open access than newer homes with dedicated utility closets. Regardless, this is currently a significant safety concern for me and my wife.
Actually we had to replace a part to central air approx. $120. But the electrician said to be prepared to replace your unit within a year. She's old and past her life expectancy. She's a good girl B/C most die well before this and she only had a couple problems, nothing major. I would stick same brand. Rheem. So we are now checking in on some. And glad we had heads up. Because we could look around and price.
I had a new Rheem Classic Heating and Air Conditioner installed on 6-14-2012, or at least my Homeowners insurance did. After receiving 2 bids for replacement, my insurance company awarded the bid to a dealer who installed Rheem Units. The unit was a combo heating and air conditioner unit that sits outside, at the back of the house. It is a RRNL unit. It is a 2- 1/2 ton unit, which was the size of the one replaced. The old one kept our house cool in the summer and warm in the winter, unit it suffered hail damage that rendered it useless.Long story short, the new unit has never worked right as it does not even come close to cooling our house. Of course our old unit had real Freon in it where the new unit uses the 410A stuff. Unit has already had to have compressor replaced, has already had to have Freon added once and needs again and a new fan motor. It is not even 4 years old yet. The fan on the unit runs continually and never shuts off in the summer. We keep the thermostat set at 72 and according to the digital readout, the unit never cools the house down to this point, thus running day and night.I had to pay $200.00 labor to have the compressor replaced under warranty, which I dont think I should have had to do. When the fan went out a couple of weeks ago, I asked the installer/repairman if there was any recalls on this unit and do they ever get a LEMON in these. He told me no on both questions. I had to pay to have Freon installed, but the fan was replaced under warranty and he did not charge me to switch out. I am really dissatisfied with this unit and which I had my old one back, or at least this one replaced.
We have experienced the most disappointing customer service from such a reputable company like Rheem. We purchased the water heater from Home Depot for our rental property. In less than 6 months from our purchase, it stopped working. We thought it would be a simple fix, like re-lighting the pilot light, but it wasn’t that simple. I proceeded to call Rheem customer service to find a technician who could help us with the issue. After several hours on the phone, on hold and with dropped calls, a customer service agent was able to help me determine the issue. A part needed to be replaced and Rheem would be shipping that over. Several issues with this solution: 1. Why couldn’t a local technician purchase the part locally and service us right away? 2. Why isn’t the part readily available at a big box store, like Home Depot, where it seems they only sell Rheem water heaters?3. With Rheem customer service / shipping dept estimating 4-6 business days, our tenant would be out of water for almost a week. Why couldn’t the shipping be expedited as a courtesy since the water heater repairs were still under warranty?Sure enough, the part took a long time to arrive to us and was even delayed. The part did not arrive at our rental property location for 9 full calendar days (7 business days). Because the part took so long to arrive, our tenant, who is a single mother with 4 young kids under age 12, was not able to have hot water. This is unacceptable for anyone living in the United States. We had to allow her to live in a hotel during this time. Therefore, we had to forego the rent she would have to pay us during these 9 days.Our family and friends have been long time customers of Rheem and have bought many products, including water heaters and air conditioners. We thought the reputation of Rheem’s products would be on par with your customer service, but that is far from the truth. We will be wary of purchasing additional Rheem products and will advise our friends and extended family to do the same. We would also like Rheem to do some further investigations, since it seems this part has ongoing issues, and possibly recall this water heater product or part. A water heater should not break down in less than 6 months. I have now seen numerous bad reviews regarding your water heaters and your customer service. For a large reputable company, this is not how you treat or retain customers.
Purchased a new Rheem furnace on 11-15-2012, installed on 3-22-2013, contacted Rheem about the warranty and was told that because the furnace was made 1-10-2010 it was not eligible for a full warranty of 5 years on parts because of the manufacture date. I was told the warranty started in 2010 and is only valid till 2015. How is that even legal, that means the warranty started before I bought it, can they do that? If so how?
New heat pump unit installed January 2013 Rudd Model RHSL- HM4221 JA and 13PJL42A01. Have had high electric bills 60 days after installation. Installing company has been out numerous fixing and replacing Freon and soldering parts. Still high electric bills. I wanted a Trane but company owner talked me into this unit. He keeps telling us mfg will not replace unit. We want our money back to purchase a unit from a different mfg.
We have a small space under our house for an electric water heater. We dont have much of a choice. We bought a Rheem 2 years ago, and have to replace because it was leaking out of the seams. We got a new one home, and opened the box. The bottom of the heater was all bent. Had to take it back. Waiting for the replacement, as I type. I told the husband to have them open the box at Home Depot, before he brings it home. Next years investment will be to replumb for an outside or garage heater. I am putting a curse on the people who built this house, and am beating myself up, again, for buying the place.
We have had nothing but problems with our Rheem tankless hot water heater. Right now at this moment we are without hot water and have been so for almost 2 weeks now. Our unit is under warranty and needs to be replaced. Rheem did send us the vent kit, but no heater. We have called customer service. The first two ladies we spoke to were nice then we were transferred to another lady that was quite rude and absolutely no help at all. She told us that we need to contact the parts service department, our problem isnt HER problem. On the phone for hours with no results. Our plumber is at his wits end dealing with this company. We were told to go to Menards and purchase a new heater ourselves and Rheem would reimburse us for the cost. Yeah right! Rheem needs to send the unit, because I do not trust that they will reimburse us after all the trouble we have had getting anything out of them. We are still under warranty! We have company coming for Thanksgiving and no hot water! Im snapping and so sorry we ever went with Rheem. We are so disappointed in this company and the way they treat their customers. My advice to anyone considering a tankless, DO NOT BUY ONE FROM RHEEM!!!
I wish some told me not to buy this water heater from Rheem. Day one: the water heater will not stay on. We called and they sent a new thermostat. It happen over a weekend so that was 4 days no hot water. Here we are 4 months later and the hot water heater wont stay lit again. Weve been on hold the whole day waiting for a customer service personnel that never answered the phone. I finally hung up around 3:30 p.m. to call back and find out that they are now closed. Are so many people unhappy with their water heaters that I couldnt even talk to a person? Guess so. Ive given up. I guess Im out of the $792 I spent because Im buying a different new water heater. I dont have $800 to waste. This will hurt my family. Rheem should be ashamed.
Brand new gas water heater. The Pilot light would not light. Called Rheem, who had me test it and concluded it was a bad gas valve. Rheem support said they would send a plumber, who did call nor show up. I called Rheem again and said I was not happy and I might return it to store. The Rheem rep said they would not authorize the return. That sounded fishy, since the stores policy doesnt require Rheems authorization. This company seems to be riding on its formerly good 20th-century name now, making junk and telling untruths to customers to try to keep them from returning it to the store.
My basement flooded nearly three years ago. I had to replace the water heater down there. I know you buy a Rheem Platinum Performance because Home Depot said it was the best. Now, it is the fourth time I have no hot water. There was even a recall that I did not know about until I called about having no hot water. When the front panel was removed by the repair guy... Several wires were burnt off. Scary. Now Rheem tells me to go buy a digital multimeter and call them back so they can walk me through testing the thing myself. Plus, they are telling me that the warranty ran out in 2015, yep the year that I purchased it. How does that work/ Dont buy a Rheem unless you want a low quality product that the company wont cover when it is broken. In my case there was a real chance of a house fire. Be Warned!
I purchased a Rheem 4 ton heat pump in Aug 2015. Ive had a service contract since I purchased it. Last October I had to add freon to the unit when serviced. Now I have a complete leak of the system. They say it could $1000. repair even with parts covered. They dont cover any labor even though I kept service contract on unit. This unit is three years old and faulty. Dont buy a Rheem.
Purchased new Rheem water heater. Installed in new home 8/27/2020. Tested pressure relief valve as instructed in Use & Care Manual. Valve would not fully re-seat and leaked to ½ gallon in 24 hours. Tried valve several times to see if it would flush out any material that may prohibit it from closing properly, leak continued. Called Rheem Tech Support at 1-800-995-0982 on 8/23/21. Sat on hold for 27 minutes before being disconnected. Called a second time, on hold for 51 minutes before someone answered only to tell me I had wrong department and they could not help. Called Tech Support # again, on hold 37 minutes, asked for a supervisor. Was told that Parts Warranty only good for 1 year from manufacture date. I was given a part # and told I would need to purchase part for about $37. Told them I have documentation of when Water heater was installed and put into service, that doesn’t matter, parts only good for one year from manufacture. Started calls at 11:30 AM, ended 1:45 PM, over two hours. This water heater touts a 10 year Warranty, evidently need to get to fine print to learn that parts that will commonly fail are only given one year from date of manufacture. I am a builder and have had multiple Rental properties, this water heater was for my own home. This in my experience is the worst customer service/support ever, I will personally never purchase or install another Rheem product. Buyer beware, you are dealing with a bloated, self-important company if you deal with Rheem.
On Oct. 3, 2011, I ordered a part for my 4 year old water heater. It was because my repairman said that Rheem will not send them to repairmen so they can repair it, and that I can only get one part replaced. If it goes bad again, I have to replace the water heater. Its not good. So, we contacted Rheem and ordered the part at approximately 2:00 pm. They said it would be shipped over night. It wasnt. I called them the next day. They said it was not going to get here until the next day. I thought that by buying a name brand water heater, it would be reliable. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Whatever happened to customer service? The people I talked to were just a call center, so they really didnt care.
Had installed by ARS a Rheem HVAC system 7/2012, just a little over two years ago. I have a maintenance agreement with a company two times a year and use pretty expensive air filters changing them every 3 months. This week the motor in the air handler stopped working. It was replaced free because it was under warranty. Have a 10 year labor agreement with the company that installed it and the labor was free also. Thank goodness! Please dont tell me that after the 5 yr. warranty period is over on parts that I will be having to replace the whole system. Im on my 3rd HVAC system in the last 21 years. The other two were not Rheems. My rating is only on Rheem HVAC and NOT ARS.
Water heater heating element went out after six months. Rheem service department had no interest in helping or paying for repair after I had it fixed. They were rude, unresponsive, and unproductive. I will never use their products again.
Hot H20 tank failed after 4.5 yrs. Rheem will not honor 7 yr. warranty because there is no longer a commercial dealer in my town. Beware of poor/no customer support with this company. Very disappointed, in what used to be a dependable company.
Bought a new water heater. It did not work when installed. I called service dept. and was told that someone would call me and come fix it. Called back and no work order was put in. 11 days later still waiting. I went to Lowes and bought a different brand. Worked when installed.
The company recalled the unit. It started a fire in my house. They didn’t bother to ask if everyone was ok after the fire. They wanted to repair the damaged water heater. It was totaled. The fire department pulled out the electrical system to make sure the fire was out. I sprayed a whole can of fire extinguisher in my garage. Made a huge mess. Didn’t care. I called. They said they would find a technician. They didn’t. I had to find one. Finally after a lot of calling found one. Got amount authorization from them. I submitted my invoice twice instead of invoice and receipt, resubmitted with corrected info. Now they want my credit card bill to verify the receipt was real!!! They all need to be subjected to having on fire in their home. So they also won’t cover the extra $200 for the new water heater which I wouldn’t of had to get if the one they sold hadn’t started on fire. So please don’t ever buy anything from them. Put them out of business!
My less than two year old RHEEM gas water heater has a leaking plastic T and RHEEM refuses to send me the part. The plastic T joins three copper lines together using rubber o-rings and metal clips. The lines are metric so only RHEEMs supplier in Japan can provide the plastic, and RHEEM claims bosses in Japan refuse to send it.
My Ruud furnace had its blower board replaced two years ago and shorted out again on a furnace that is only 14 years old (ave life approximates 20 years). Additionally, the inducer motor has failed too, making it difficult to justify the repair expense versus shelling out for a totally new furnace. I reached out to Ruud customer service and they basically said oh well, too bad. They had no sympathy, offered up no solutions, and had no interest in persuading me to buy a new Ruud or Rheem furnace. They did not care at all whether I was a customer or not. Absolutely unforgivable way to treat people that spend thousands on their machines. Will never buy Ruud/Rheem again.
I bought a Rheem furnace 2 stage variable speed and A/C unit. It was installed in summer. In winter, I noticed that furnace kicks in directly in the second stage and never works in the first stage. It is too noisy and heat variations are high. I tried for 3 months to determine the contractor to come and fix the issue. It was not an emergency, but the unit was under warranty and did not do what was supposed to do. After 3 months, the contractor comes and tries to call the dealer in order to get support from them as the contractor did not know what to do (despite the fact it seems a very simple setting). I took 2 days off, and every day the contractor cannot reach the dealers technician despite the fact that this was scheduled in advance. I was frustrated and tried to send a complaint directly to Rheem. I filled in their contact form (there is no way to contact them via phone) and wrote a long note venting my frustration and bad experience with the whole chain. And at the end, when I tried to submit, it didnt go through. I tried 6 times and every time, it failed without telling me what the error is. So in the end, there is no one to contact at Rheem to explain the situation, and how the dealer and the contractor and possibly the quality of their product affect their reputation. In the end, I am a very unhappy Rheem customer, and I would never ever recommend someone to buy a Rheem product due to the overall experience I had with all 3 entities involved (producer/dealer and contractor).
Replaced my old water heater three years ago with a six year warranty Rheem water heater. It is leaking profusely from the bottom, damaging a wall and custom wood cabinetry in my kitchen. Quoted $700 dollars, by Home Depot (they did the installation) to remove the faulty water heater and replace it, which Rheem does not cover. Why should someone be charged such exorbitant fees to remove and replace a defective water heater, under warranty?
Im helping my father get his Rheem water heater taken care of. It broke several days ago. I went to the Rheem webpage and called a local plumber listed on Rheems website. When I told the plumber I have a Rheem device, he immediately said, Oh, I hate working on those. Everyone hates working on those. Rheem has made it very hard for us to work on their devices, and their tech service line even for us pros is entirely unhelpful. That plumber declined to provide service.I then called a second plumber listed on Rheems website. They came out, evaluated the water heater, and concluded it was broken beyond repair and needed to be replaced. Fortunately, the device is still under warranty, so the plumber directed me to inform Rheem so that I could be sent a replacement. I called Rheem and was surprised that Rheems customer service wanted me to do a bunch of diagnostic maneuvers on the device. Isnt that what the plumber listed on their website who came out did?Regardless, I did as Rheem wanted. Finally, they conceded that it needed to be replaced and was under warranty. But then they said for me to take advantage of the warranty, I need to disconnect the water heater, take it back to the place of purchase, pick up a new water heater there, and bring it back to my place. The water heater is 75 gallons in capacity, and disconnecting and transporting a water heater isnt something the average residential consumer can be fairly expected to do. Requiring me to do all of that functionally more or less makes the warranty a non-warranty. Overall, Ive been unimpressed with Rheems service and warranty.
I purchased a water heater last week. I had a guy come into install it for me. He got everything done and went to fire it up and nothing. After talking with the company who said they could send out service, but it could take about 1 week. Well with all the stuff going on in the world and me being a healthcare worker I need hot water. The guy takes off the black box at the top and lo and behold one of the three wires is not connected. Its a manufacturer defect and still will take about one week. So, the guy rigs it so we have hot water. I called 2 business days later because no one called me to set up service to find out that the call was disconnected and he never put it in. He had all my information already. Of course they had an excuse. I will never purchase another water heater from this company again. I also paid the guy to install it and they will not reimburse me anything. You know what I would like to do with this heater.
My hot water heater’s FVC broke after two weeks. They told me dust could set it off? Or unopened paint cans? Who doesn’t have that stuff in their basement? They then were supposed to send me a new part which took a week to get to me. Hot water heater broke on a Friday but they couldn’t send a part out to me until Monday. They tried to blame it on FedEx. But they managed to get me the return label to send back the defective part in two days. No apologies or anything. Stay away from this company!
The Rheem 40 gallon gas water heater never worked properly, temperature could not be adjusted and stayed at 120 degrees, even in low or vacation mode. Customer service had 45 hold time, but finally sent out a local plumber, who believed it was a faulty temperature controller. I again had difficulty getting to Rheem customer service, but they ordered a new temperature controller which was installed by a local plumber. After running hot water for a considerable time with controller in vacation mode the temperature dropped but stayed above the 91 degree stated in owners manual. The next morning I ran hot water on a home thermometer and the temperature shot up to 120 degree, the maximum the thermometer could read. Now I must call to get a third plumber out to correct situation.The owner manual does not say it is a Rheem water heater and it appear to be the same water heater at Home Depot and Lowes. Also the owner manual shows the temperature controller to be a brand name Honeywell but the controller provided appears to be the same, only the Honeywell name is missing. Bottom line; I will not buy another Rheem water heater.
Replaced our water heater of 20 years with a Rheem because it was a good brand and has been around. It worked fine for a week and then the pilot went out. Re lit and 2 days went out again. Then it was going out every couple hours. I called Tech support with Rheem and said they would have a plumber contact me. Plumber came out and determined it was the main Gas control. Took 4 days to get the part and we installed it and still did the same thing. Called tech support again, they wanted us to take the burner assembly to check if something was tripped. If it was they would send another part out. We have been without hot water for almost two weeks. Im tired of the runaround and took it back to home depot for a refund. So disappointed with the whole situation. They could have overnighted the parts instead of waiting days for them.
