WE had a Rheem water heater installed on December 3, 2020. Almost immediately, the water smelled of rotten eggs. We have softened water and it is not from a well. No problems like this with our previous Whirlpool water heater. Rheem says we need to replace the anode rod and are giving us no help at all. So, we need to pay for a plumber to fix this problem on a brand new water heater. VERY disappointing.

Purchased a 50 gallon Rheem electric hot water heater from Home Depot. Had a master plumber install the water heater. He thought all was working well. Never got any hot water. Plumber came back later to see what was wrong. Plumber contacted Rheem and explained what was going on with the water heater. Rheem told him it was defective and gave him a case number. They also told him a plumbing company in Maryland would handle checking out the heater to see if it could be repaired. By the way, I live in Georgia! Plumbing company in Maryland told my plumber they did not have a work order for my water heater. My plumber contacted Rheem at least ten times concerning the heater. Rheem could find the case number, but could never find any paperwork concerning my plumber contacting them. They put the burden on me by telling me to find a licensed plumber and having the heater repaired and then they would reimburse me. Is this the best they can do to stand behind their product? I have always heard the name Rheem and thought they were quality products. I will never buy Rheem products again. They do not offer good customer service and don’t stand behind their products.

I purchased a new townhome that had a Rheem water heater. The water heater tank leaked and had to be replaced when it was only 6 years and 3 months old. The company apologized and said it should have lasted longer, however they would not do anything to compensate for the poor product. I would not buy another Rheem water heater.

I purchase my unit in 2013 and have had trouble with it ever since. The heat works fine, but the a/c does not work for an entire season. When it was first installed it would not stay on because of the water sensor. I had to reset the sensor multiple times, until they finally replaced it. Turned the unit on in 2014 and it didnt come on. They had to come out three times that summer. Now its 2015 and again the unit would not come on. They got it running. A month later it is frozen up because it is leaking. They put in a sealant and now another month later it is leaking again. They refuse to replace it and just keep wasting my time fixing it.

We bought an Rheem 5.0 Ton air conditioner unit just 13 months ago. The compressor stopped working and even though the parts are covered we had to pay $600 for the labor. We are still paying for this unit and it only lasted a little over a year. The unit we had before (a different brand) lasted over 10 years before it gave us any problems. It doesnt seem fair that we had to pay that much money for labor when it is obviously a faulty unit. We live in Florida and its the middle of summer, we cant live without AC so we just had to pay it. I will not recommend this Rheem brand to anybody.

Buyer beware. Paperwork that came w/ hot water heater says it has 9 year warranty. Failed after 6-1/2 years (tank leaked/not fixable). Escalated issue to Customer service Supervisor, said warranty only 6 yrs. Not covered and nothing they could do. Wasted 6 phone calls to company to try to get them to issue me some coverage under warranty. Somehow it was my problem that the paperwork that came with my hot water heater was wrong and I was suppose to know this.

Your company sucks and take advantage of their customers. You guys sold me a faulty unit. I followed your directions to a T. After months and months of back and forth emails I finally called today. Spoke to 4 people and the last person I spoke to was so rude and refused to let me speak to a manager. Im out $1500 for a water heater that last 3 months. This is complete ** and not sure how you guys still have a company. I will do everything in my power to make sure everyone knows my issues. And after looking into it Im not the only one with this issue. You guys should be ashamed to have such a ** company. And to take advantage of people in times like this. 100% the worst company I have ever dealt with. And to not be able to speak to a manager and I even let them know I have numerous emails since February 2021 regarding this issue. I have all my documents of all conversations. So this will be taken to the next step.

Bought and installed this water heater on a Friday night, by Sunday night the gas valve was not working. I tried everything, troubleshooted and called the help number. The man I spoke to was not helpful at all. He asked me questions that didn’t apply to my problem. Also implied I wasn’t smart enough to know the gas had to be turned on. I am very disappointed in a product that costs hundreds of dollars that doesn’t even last 2 days.

We purchased a Rheem 2-4 tons RQNL B 13 Seer Series Heat Pump in Sept 2008. We have done the maintenance on the heat pump, using pricey filters as suggested from Rheem. Year 2, had to replace the refrigerant... year 5, same thing. Our dealer ate the cost because of maintenance plan we purchased with the unit. Now year 6, we are having to replace the motherboard for the unit and blower fan. No big deal... (under 10 year warranty). Wrong, Rheem will not honor the warranty because I didnt go on-line and fill out the warranty, which I was not told about. The warranty card said do not mail, keep for your records. I called Rheem customer service, they were rude and would not give me any help.Called wholesaler where the unit was purchased, Modern Wholesale in Knoxville, Tennessee, spoke with a Mr **, he told me that Rheem started having warranties filled out on-line starting in 2009. I told him my unit was installed in 2008, he still did not and will not honor the warranty. The dealer I purchased my unit from has been helpful with names and numbers, but I dont expect him to eat the cost when Rheem should honor warranty. Rheem has 2 class action lawsuits. Anyone still wanting a Rheem, I think not, they are a rude company and will not back their product. If they did, it wouldnt matter how your warranty was filled... DO NOT BUY A RHEEM, if anything, run fast and far.

I purchased an electric 30 gallon hot water heater from home depot (Plymouth meeting,pa.) 06 Oct 2019. After plumbing the lines and filling the tank, the heater leaked from the bottom. I called Rheem and I had one of two options. Repair it myself and get reimbursed or wait 2 days for Rheem to send a part. Why should I work on a new unit I just purchased? Didnt like either option so I called home depot and they allowed me to return it for a refund. In my stupidity, I purchased another unit, same as the first one because the copper lines were already plumbed. Yes, you got it, the 2nd heater leaked, this time from the top. Everybody is so concerned with American made products, this company is located in Alabama. Called the warranty dept and this time they tell me to remove the pressure relief valve and wrap it with Teflon tape. How difficult would it be to test the product before selling it to the public? This is an honest recount of my past weekend. M. ** (Norristown, Pa). I would not recommend this product.

Rheem Marathon water heaters come with a lifetime warranty. A licensed plumber installed this water heater just under a year ago. The heater began making loud noises, like a metal object was hitting another piece of metal. I called the same plumber back to check on the noise. He examined the heater thoroughly and found nothing that would have caused this problem to arise. He asked me to call Rheem Customer Service to see if they could explain and offer a solution to the noise. (The noise has no relation to water use, time of day, or any other variable I could think of). My first call was answered by Lori, who asked for my serial number, then told me to adjust the flue baffle and that would eliminate the noise. She was in a hurry to get off the call. The electric Marathon has no baffle. My second call was answered by Valerie, who also took my serial number. I specifically told her the heater was electric. She then told me to take off the two covers on the front, determine which light was on when the noise occurred, then call her back with the information. I took off the covers to find that there are no lights. She was also interested in ending the call. My third call was answered by Nick, who apologized for the other two agents of Rheem, which he could see from the record of calls I had made previously. He suggested draining the tank to see if that would eliminate the noise. I asked the plumber about this and he stated that there would be no need to drain the tank given its age. So I am left with either calling Rheem yet again for what appears to be sketchy advise or learning to live with the noise.Rheems Customer Service seems to be time on the phone driven: when you get a trouble call, give some kind of answer and get off the phone as soon as possible. Not a good system to encourage customers to buy any Rheem product in the future. Their responses to my problem seem to treat the Lifetime Warranty as a mere piece of paper used as a sales aid only. Beware of Rheem products!

Bought a hot water tank Feb 2018. 5 days later it went out! Water leaks no hot water! Called customer service and they said, Maybe get you someone tomorrow? I cant afford to pay again to have their faulty water tank replaced? And why should I? It was ONLY 4-5 days old? Yet customer service said maybe tomorrow??? So I called again the c/s department to check if someone would be coming Wed Feb. 14th. The man Mike was very rude. I asked if he could see if someone would be coming to repair my water heater? He asked for model # on heater which I didnt have. I was calling from work on my lunch break. Then was told maybe he could get it under my name? Ok good idea.He found a Mr. Build repair person listed and should call me tomorrow. I ask Mike, Will I get this issue fixed by tomorrow? The tech. makes the decision? O.k? Yet will it be fixed tomorrow? Mike said, I DONT KNOW! Either he orders parts or if 2 people are need to replace the tank he would have to get someone? I was in shock not just by the tone of this mans voice of being irritated yet that a company LIKE Rheem cant take care of the issue in a timely and professional manner. We should go without hot water for 3 days or more on a hot water tank bought through HOME DEPOT 4-5 days earlier? Still under warranty (90 days). And inconvenience us for product failure? And pay another $300.00 plus to have it installed???Then I tried to return technician call. Left at 3:45 pm to my home? I call the technician... Not only that night after getting home from work at 7 pm leaving a message I also called the technician at 8 am Wed morning and at 9:30 am both leaving messages no real person guarantying they would return a call. And still here at 10:15 am. NO return call to confirm. They would be here between 4 pm and 7 pm. NOW still wondering will we have HOT water tonight??? Happy Valentines DAY right.

They dont make water heaters like they used to, thats for sure. I bought a house a few years ago with a Sears water heater in it from 1977. It lasted until 2009. I had a new Rheem water heater put in March 2014. It failed May 2021, right after the 6 year warranty. The heater element rusted right through the tank, and this is a water heater that was connected to a water softener, so no hard water going through it at all.Waste of money and it looks like I am not alone. Rheem needs to go back to see what Sears was doing. Same with all these companies that supply water heaters to Lowes and Home Depot. A water heater should not be a disposable item. They should last 20 years, just like they did years ago. And for us consumers, we need to wake the hell up to the way companies like Rheem operate. Sure, Sears didnt keep up with the times, and Amazon is killing places like Sears. BUT, that doesnt mean that we should all be a bunch of suckers, getting water heaters replaced every decade. What a joke.

Our experience is exactly the same. So what can we all do. We are about to replace the coil (aluminum versus copper, our HVAC serviceman says will make the difference). He is not 100% sure the problem is there since the leak is very small. To really check will cost about 600 for a nitrogen test. So at this point we are down $300 for visit and freon replacement and potentially down another $600 to replace the second coil. Our unit like the rest is 2012 with problems in 2014 and now.

Installed a water heater that worked for two days. Called customer support. Spent 20 minutes waiting, only to be redirected to a technician with a 40 minute wait. I got a teenaged millennial who had never installed a water heater and clearly wanted me off the queue. I got exactly one question, whats the voltage across the incoming electrical leads. Despite both leads providing 120VAC, I was told it was an electrical problem, determined by ONE test, and dismissed. No other diagnostics were performed and no interest in what, where are when anything happened. Describing the problem and steps taken was of no interest to the teenager on the other end. Clearly designed to avoid actual customer service. So if you want to talk to a know-it-all teenager on a phone in a cube, call Rheem customer support. Rheem he80-130n commercial water heater - I own a restaurant in Phoenix and your water heater was nothing but trouble for me. Its a real hunk of junk. The unit was very expensive to begin with and was only 2 years old when the first igniter went out. Now, when the unit was 3 and a half years old, the igniter went out again and blew the main board. We replaced blown igniter again and blown board again. The plumber I had working on it said the unit was poorly designed. I cant believe what a hunk of junk this unit is. On top of that, I could not buy parts on the west coast. I had to have them shipped next day from Boston. It really is bad business to have a product that you cant even get parts for. A restaurant cant run without hot water, so it needs to be easy to repair. But to only last for 3 years and cost $6,000 is totally unacceptable. That I put $900 in parts and the unit still only worked for a couple of days is crap! So I had to take your unit out and replace it with another one, which cost me a lot of time and money ($5,000). It also caused my business to suffer from having to close kitchen because of your faulty product design. You would think for all that money this unit would work much better than it does. For the igniter to blow and destroy the motherboard, that’s a poor design. I believe your company should refund me part of the cost of the unit for it being such a piece of crap, or at least for the parts that I purchased and the labor to install them. Just an extremely unhappy customer!

I have a Rheem Water Heater and a valve went out. The service tech had to order a replacement part. Then I get the FedEx notification and it is a week till the estimated delivery date. What happen to 2-3 days? I called the help number and come to find out that I could have overnight the stupid part for a small fee and had hot water in a couple of days instead of over a week, but the guy processing the order the first time failed to mention that option to me. Needless to say the part is now overnight but since it was a Friday afternoon it wont go out till Monday so when the thing finally comes in and can be installed it will be 5 days since the service tech got out there to begin with to get the hot water heater running. Seriously what are these people thinking, you as a homeowner dont want hot water in winter for more than a week.

Read the reviews, then run as fast as you can to find another supplier. At 15 years old, my old water heater was running fine, but I decided it was time to replace it before it died. I contracted for a Rheem Power Vent unit (a requirement in my situation), which made it quite expensive at $1,300 with installation. It lasted 30 months, and died with what turns out to be a common problem with the valve. The installing contractor sent the repair over to a Rheem specified service organization, who was not very responsive. It took me a day to get a call back, and they totally blew off a 3PM to 7PM arrival window scheduled for the next day, and called 8AM the following day (3 days) acting dumb, and said can we come now? They found the failing valve, but only after I stopped him from leaving, when it started up (as it always does), and the repair guy says see, its working. Sure, just wait 5 minutes for it to start ignition failure recycling every 2 minutes. Finally he saw that, went and got the part, and fixed it. I just got the bill. 3 hours at $125 (should be one hour) and $356 for the Smart Valve. Sure its smart for Rheem and the repair guy. Me, Ive just spent over 1/2 the cost of a new unit, to fix one that is only 30 months old. Where is the warranty?

The Rheem water heater I bought went out months before the warranty ran out. Rheem sent me the part and I had Southern Calif. Even sent the bill from Gas Co. and my check no. that paid it. I am so disgusted with Rheem. I guess my next move will be to go to Better Business Bureau and tell them my story. Please tell me why do some companies say they have and even give warranties on paper and then you have to fight with them to get your money back... I think this is fraud on a big scale. I bought a Rheem furnace 2 stage variable speed and A/C unit. It was installed in summer. In winter, I noticed that furnace kicks in directly in the second stage and never works in the first stage. It is too noisy and heat variations are high. I tried for 3 months to determine the contractor to come and fix the issue. It was not an emergency, but the unit was under warranty and did not do what was supposed to do. After 3 months, the contractor comes and tries to call the dealer in order to get support from them as the contractor did not know what to do (despite the fact it seems a very simple setting). I took 2 days off, and every day the contractor cannot reach the dealers technician despite the fact that this was scheduled in advance. I was frustrated and tried to send a complaint directly to Rheem. I filled in their contact form (there is no way to contact them via phone) and wrote a long note venting my frustration and bad experience with the whole chain. And at the end, when I tried to submit, it didnt go through. I tried 6 times and every time, it failed without telling me what the error is. So in the end, there is no one to contact at Rheem to explain the situation, and how the dealer and the contractor and possibly the quality of their product affect their reputation. In the end, I am a very unhappy Rheem customer, and I would never ever recommend someone to buy a Rheem product due to the overall experience I had with all 3 entities involved (producer/dealer and contractor).

We had this water heater installed thinking we had gotten the best on the market. However, upon installation, it would not turn on. Apparently the model XE50T12EC55UO re-positions itself to OFF every time there is power disruption. We live in an area that the energy company has the ability to shut off your hot water tank to save energy as well as have power failures. This means we HAVE to reset our water tank every time or we have no hot water. Every time I leave for over the road, I come back house is cold, when it warms up, I shut it off, then need heat and nothing, its always sensors, gas valve sticks. The furnace gets new filter every month, dust out top of furnace, and plagued with issues, oh and the air conditioner, when it cycles off sounds like it gears are being stripped. Thats normal after a year of whinnying, Never again will I buy Rheem. 96% efficiency my butt. My hydro goes up while I wait for repair guy.

Purchased NEW unit through a marketing company on Ebay. Verified with Rheem the Serial number had never been registered. Installed unit and just in five years the heat exchanger has failed within the parameters of the 12 year warranty. I have gone back and forth with this company and realized they do not stand behind their products over technicalities. They call the business that sold me the tank and the Stainless vent kit a third party vendor that is pure manure! I have the receipt the vendor wants to help and the Rheem company said they are out of the picture! Its between me and the vendor! I smell manure again! Any store selling manufacturers products are not liable for the warranty...the manufacturer is once you produce a legit receipt. Conclusion: RHEEM HAS NO ETHICS, INTEGRITY AND ANY CUSTOMER ORIENTATION! Learn from my experience>>> why would you buy their product after reading this review! I have emails of this short version of a review I am posting>>> Learn from others misfortune & experience

The condenser coil in my 6 year old AC unit is leaking and no longer cools
The condenser coil in my 6 year old AC unit is leaking and no longer cools my house which is 90 degrees. The part is under warranty but is on backorder and has to be manufactured. A month and a half later in the 90 degree summer I still dont have the part and Rheem can not tell me an estimated time of arrival. What good is a warranty if Rheem can not fulfill it? A $1,000 repair under warranty is going to turn into a new unit (NOT a Rheem) for $6,000 plus. I will never buy a Rheem again! I have seen multiple other reviews saying the condenser coils in Rheem AC units typically are replaced prematurely due to poor design. Buyer beware.

After three years I had to replace my Rheem gas water heater. Due to issue in the gas chamber and it having a leak. After going back and forward with customer service for four days. They finally agreed to replaces it. Since it was still under warranty. But first I had to pay a license plumber to speak/confirm it to them. They didnt even asks for his license #. Two weeks later Im back with no hot water. Due to new water heater having issue with gas chamber AGAIN. I had City Public Service come to check my gas lines/flow. They places a red tag on the heater and stated it was the CONTROL VALVE. Once again customer service said it could not be the control value. Due to it being new. They required a gas pressure count. Which is not cover under the warranty. Im just ready to give up and just go buy a new one AND IT WONT BE RHEEM!!!! But this is what they.

Water heater (electric) dead after 4 years of use and flooded our garage. Rheem will not give any sort of credit or reimbursement for a new unit as they say it can only be returned to a plumbing supply store. They can not or will not deal with the public. No way to get a credit even with me willing to pay for a new one. Bad company, bad product. The Rheem AC in my office also went bad after 9 months, theyve garbage as well. Spend a few extra bucks for equipment that will last longer and a company that will stand behind their product.

I wanted to replace a 30yr old RUUD hot water heater. Found out Rheem now owns Ruud. I tried to buy a Rheem out of loyalty and NO local dealers would sell me one without installing it. I found one on Amazon and got free shipping on it. It arrived in great condition. I installed it and sure enough the anode rod cap was cracked through the threads and leaked. This was caused by the suspended weight during shipping. Rheem refused to warranty the part, said it was not a part they warrantied. Unreal, I contacted Amazon and they said they would refund the purchase price for the part. They did (I love Amazon). After 3 years my daughter turned up the tank to midway (C) on the thermostat. Within 2 days the top of the tank sunk in 2 and made it too dangerous to continue using it. After several calls and pictures sent to Rheem they agreed to warranty it (good til 2018). The only problem was NO dealer would handle warranty claim because they didnt install it. I contacted Rheem again with no response. I then filed a Better Business Bureau complaint for a full refund due to the fact I had to drive 50 miles and buy another brand tank to install so my family would have hot water. Rheem again played their delay game and wanted to start the warranty exchange process all over again. I replied I do not want a tank, I have one. I want a refund. They refused. Rheem has to have the worst customer service in the entire business world. NEVER BUY A RHEEM PRODUCT. They operate with the totally outdated dealer network business model to fix prices and make it impossible to get a warranty. Even if you have their dealer install the unit there will be much cost involved to have them warranty repair anything. Terrible management people at RHEEM.

I bought my Rheem water heater 2 years ago. Recently, the pilot light has been going out. As a single gal, who is not very handy, I thought I was making a great purchase given the product came with a 6 year warranty. Much to my dismay, I found out that the warranty is only a parts warranty! Now I have to wait a few days to receive the parts in the mail and figure out how to install them myself... And, once again, be without the ability to take a hot shower in the meantime! I had my previous water heater for nearly 20 years, without a problem and this one defaults after just 2!

I will never again buy a Rheem water heater, and I recommend you dont either. Two years ago I bought, had installed, at a cost of over 1200.00 a Rheem water heater. You would think that the manufacturer of this product would stand behind it. Well they dont. To have this unit fixed it cost me an additional 600.00 dollars. Their response was, Sorry sir. We cant help you. Two years for something that should of lasted at least eight years. By the way that is what they told me my warranty was good for. So do yourself a favor and never buy a Rheem water heater, or any other of their products.Shame on you Rheem. I am certain Im not the only one who got reamed.

I installed a Rheem 40 gal gas hot water heater on Monday June 7. It would not stay lit. I had the local gas company come out and check the output of the gas meter on the house and then at the heater itself. Everything checked out ok so on Friday, June 11, only 4 days after buying the unit, I called the technical helpline at Rheem. Caitlyn diagnosed the problem as probably being either the thermal coupler or the gas valve and that Rheem would send out the parts. The problem was it would be 4 to 5 business days. Thats now an additional week without hot water on a tank which has been installed for less than a week. Expediting the order will cost me for the additional shipping expenses. I waited on hold with the shipping department for a half hour without anyone answering before hanging up and buying the parts locally. I will never buy another Rheem part because they dont stand behind their products.

I installed a Rheem 50 gallon electric water heater in September of 2016 and had a manufacture date of August 23, 2016, less than 2 years old. I noticed paint flaking off around the bottom and some minor rust forming around the bottom and where the paint was flaking. The water heater is in a basement room but is on a wood platform and not on a moist floor, and has a dehumidifier 5 feet away. I called Rheem customer service to explain the problem. They asked for pictures, which I sent them. They looked at the pics, and proceeded to blame it on condensation from being in the basement, even though it’s off the floor and right next to a dehumidifier. It’s is right on par with others experiences with Rheem. They do not honor warranties and make all sorts of excuses to not have to replace anything. This unit has a 6 year tank warranty on it, and it’s less than 2 years old. I have never had a water heater rust on the outside from condensation. Rust on the tank is a sign of failure of the inner lining and will only get worse. Luckily, I bought the Home Depot extended warranty as Rheem is useless and screws its customers. Horrible company.

Polar Bear would not repair the unit unless I gave them $400 upfront for lost freon. They said Rheem would not compensate them for freon. I phoned Rheem customer service regarding that and they said they do not cover lost freon. Tough luck! Wife is ill and coming home from rehab in that period. I must have heat and cooling. I was forced to cough up $400 or Polar Bear would not repair. Gun to head. Attorney General Office in Florida fluffed me off and told me to get a lawyer that they dont handle private cases. The lower heating element failed (error code A105), which they say they will send me, and then I can either hire a technician to replace it or I can empty the water heater and do it myself. This is not the warranty I expected. This water heater was just installed, and they sent a bad product. We confidentially purchased a Rheem. Got water heater a few years ago. Well it failed. I called Rheem to enact the warranty and customer service told me they were sending an email with directions to take photos. After taking said photos I was to call them back 15 minutes after sending the email. After much confusion, I did (I had no idea what a heat exchanger was.. Thank goodness for it Youtube). On the return call I was informed that it was under full warranty and to remove the unit and return it to the original place of purchase. If the new unit costs more I am responsible for the difference but ... I would get a brand new warranty. If it was the same price the old warranty would still be in effect. So I hang up and call the plumbing supply store where we purchased the unit. I was told that Not only do I have to pay the entire cost of the unit up front (I will be allegedly be reimbursed for the original purchase price after Rheem reimburses them) but I have to pay a “service fee” of $125! I also have to pay a plumber to come and uninstall the defective unit then pay again to have him install the new unit! How is this a full warranty? Never again. It’s costing me a fortune to replace a defective unit! These expenses should be on Rheem not me.

A Couple months later the water heater failed. I contacted Rheem and they sent parts to my house and contacted their approved/authorized contractor to replace the parts. When the repair was made, their contractor dented in the side of the tank. When I contacted Rheem they told me it is not their problem and that I need to take it up with their contractor and that I would never be able to prove it. Their contractor does not respond to any forms of communication. The Rheem representative were very rude and unprofessional. So I paid ~$2,000 for a damaged, unsightly water heater. Plus, is it safe? My water heater was not even five years, I had a six-year warranty. Sunday morning I awake to a flooded garage. As an elderly disabled woman, I didnt know what to do. That day I had to get it replaced, which was very costly for me, I felt relieved that it was still under warranty. I called first thing Monday morning, he asked me so many questions, then made me go out in the rain to remove a metal panel from the unit and drilled me on what I saw inside. After that he then claimed it was a parts issue that could of been replaced and therefore his hands were tied and couldnt do anything for me. Who could go for days waiting for a part that I wouldnt know to do with it when I got it and go without a shower for days. They will find any reason not to cover their products, even with a warranty. They have no consideration what people go through and the work and damages it causes. Will never purchase any of their products again and tell everyone I know.

This is the third Rheem water heater we have had in 2 years! First one had a leak at installation. Second one leaked while we were on vacation and flooded parts of the basement. The replacement we received today came with a crack in the plastic surrounding the water inlet. Each time Rheem admits the unit is defective but does not make any offer or attempt to pick up their substandard product. Instead I have to disconnect and haul to Home Depot myself. Family has been without hot water for 2 weeks and when the heater finally comes it is cracked. I call Rheem. They tell me to call Home Depot. You go to Home Depot. They need confirmation from Rheem the unit can be returned. Also, when you return the unit Rheem refunds on a pro-rated basis. This means that I paid $1,300 + tax for a defective water heater and they only refund $1,100 because I have had it for 2 years of a 6 year warranty. Then to top it off, if I want to replace the defective unit I HAVE TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE IN PRICE. The unit now cost $1,500 so I have to come up with the $400 + tax difference between the $1,100 they offer for their defective product and the $1,500 they want to charge for a new one. I AM DONE WITH RHEEM!

Purchased a brand new Rheem hot water heater from Home Depot in 2018 and right out of the box it was DOA. It says right on the side of the heater to not return it to the place of purchase but rather to call Rheem customer service (which is the worst customer service). Three days later (without hot water) I received a replacement controller. $225 later a plumber installed it and it still would not work. Two more calls to Rheem (they called themselves Rheem because they ream you) and they ship a replacement pilot light kit. $180 for a plumber to install and after many attempts it lights and heats. Works great for a couple months and then the pilot light goes out. Many attempts later and another $120 visit by a plumber they fix it and it now works for close to a year before the pilot light goes out again. Call the plumber and $120 he resolves the issue after three more days of waiting for the part. Works this time for a year and now two and a half years after purchase it dies again. Three days without hot water and multiple calls to Rheem (ream) and they are shipping a replacement part (oh by the way if you want expedited shipping that costs $30 but it still takes two days). I finally got done. It is not worth the hassle of dealing with this company and their garbage product so I am replacing this piece of crap with an AO Smith. The sad thing is that two plumbing companies told me not to purchase Rheem and I did because they had the better warranty. Well the warranty is useless if your only option is two wait for three days for the part and then you still have to pay the plumber to install it. Note to self. Find a reputable plumber, buy the brand they recommend and install and never buy Rheem.

Updated 08/16/2021: Six month old RHEEM hot water heater stopped working. I could not get thru to anyone at RHEEM by phone nor their webpage. Their webpage said they had no service workers in my area. So per warranty, I paid a plumbing company to repair it. Warranty says 1 yr., parts and labor. Found them on FaceBook and left a review, finally after several days and messages they called and emailed me paperwork to have filled out. Had to chase down the plumber for a list of parts and labor broken down, their W-9 form, and RHEEM wanted copies of CANCELED check from the bank. Lucky I paid cash! Sent it all in certified return receipt. All sent in 6-30-21. Today is 8-16-21, I have received nothing from them. My post on their FB page have been deleted. Please check their reviews online before purchasing from them, I am NOT the only one with RHEEM problems.Original Review: Bought Rheem 40 gal electric HWH in January 2021, now it is 6 mos and it just stopped working. The breaker is fine, also tried the reset button... Nothing. Ive called 3 phone numbers and tried to contact them thru their useless webpage. We got a brand new water heater in 2017. Now in 2020 it stopped working over a month ago. We reached out to Rheem for a new thermocouple- per the machine error. It took several rude customer service representatives to get the part. Despite paying the extra 50$ to overnight the order, it did not arrive for two days. We had the plumber put in the new thermocouple and all was well....for a few days. Then a new error popped up high temperature sensor...a few rude Rheem calls later and another overnight (read: two days) package later, we get the part. Pay yet another plumber to put the part in and all is well...for a few days. The hot water stops again, the plumber comes yet again and the pilot light is three times as tall as it should be! Call some rude Rheem representatives and OH, they sent the WRONG PART AND WILL NOT BE COVERING THE PLUMBER INSTALLATION FOR THE WRONG PART THEY SENT!!?! Two days later and were still waiting for the overnight of the right part. Have never been more dissatisfied with a company and will NEVER purchase Rheem and will discourage EVERYONE I know from using.

My first call the employee said it must be dust or dirt. l ask why this never happened to my old less expensive water unit - no answer. Months later same pilot problem - doesnt stay lit. Second call girl tells me it cant be the unit. l must have a gas leak or something about cubic feet of air in my garage. She told me l would need to call my local Pacific Gas and Electric Company which l did. Everything was good . NO GAS LEAKS and heater was in a space off the ground, with plenty of cubic ft. Third call l get a male employee. By now my unit is going out 2-3 times a week. He was the rudest one yet. They are sending me a new pilot ignition part, still not received. However even under warranty, its up to me to find a contracted Rheem plumber. They couldnt even recommend someone to call. l ended up calling Home Depot which gave me a local number. If l was a buyer for Home Depot l would stop all purchases of any Rheem water heaters from my own experience along with all these other reviews. In late 2015 we purchased a Rheem water heater from Home Depot for a rental property. We paid a plumber to install it. After installation, the water heater made loud bangs after use. The plumber recommended running the water for a while to release air in the pipes. The water heater continued to bang until it eventually stopped working. We paid to have the plumber take it back to Home Depot for a replacement. We paid the plumber to install the new water heater, which banged as well. Reading in to the instructions further, we were advised to install an expansion tank. We bought the tank and again, paid a plumber to install it. This new water heater continued to bang!I finally called Rheem who admitted this was a manufacturers defect. They would send a local company out to move the pilot light closer to the burner. When I asked if they planned to reimburse us for our expenses they declined. When I asked why the water heaters are still on the floor at Home Depot their response was we dont have problems like this with all of them. When I spoke with the local company they sent out to move the pilot light I asked if they deal with issues like this often and they said All the time. I also asked Rheem if we could have a new water heater because I was worried that damage had already been done to the heater currently installed. They declined.

Now I am still out of hot water in December. Customer service is great but you have to wait on the line for 45 minutes. Just proves how much issues they are having with their products. Please DISREGARD the bad review. It was not a Rheem issue. My mistake. Explanation (maybe others can learn from my mistake): The catch pan at the bottom of the water heater filled with water up to the overflow pipe that goes to the drain. I vacuumed the water out and made sure no water could enter from the drain pipe. (The drain pipe is also used by the furnace and air-conditioner.) After a few hours there was more water in the catch pan. I assumed this was confirmation that it came from a leak in the water heater. I was wrong!I vacuumed out the water again, called the service number and wrote the bad review. After several hours I notice the catch pan was still dry. After a full day it was still dry???. I then realized the water I thought was coming from a leak in the water heater must have come from water that collected in the water heaters insulation which gradually dripped out. So the real source of the water in the catch pan was water that back-flowed from my furnace/air-conditioner. As for Rheems support, I called the service number. They listen to my story and scheduled a service visit for the next workday. I received a call from the service provider (Sals) a few hours later. They were very pleasant and told me they would call a 1/2 hour before arrival. Fortunately, I was able to cancel the appointment. Again, Sals was very gracious and glad all was working ok.

Brand new gas water heater. The Pilot light would not light. Called Rheem, who had me test it and concluded it was a bad gas valve. Rheem support said they would send a plumber, who did call nor show up. I called Rheem again and said I was not happy and I might return it to store. The Rheem rep said they would not authorize the return. That sounded fishy, since the stores policy doesnt require Rheems authorization. This company seems to be riding on its formerly good 20th-century name now, making junk and telling untruths to customers to try to keep them from returning it to the store.

As part of a major remodel project, which included new plumbing and gas lines, we had a Rheem tankless water heater installed in the summer of 2012. In about 7 months we began to have trouble. When the hot water was turned on somewhere in the house, the tank would attempt to fire up but wouldnt actually ignite, and then the unit would flash an error code #11. The person needing hot water would wait and wait for it but would never get it. This happened more and more frequently. The plumber who installed it sent a Rheem rep out who blamed it on insufficient gas pressure, without actually testing the pressure. HVAC guy said we had large supply line to the unit. Rheem manual (only obtainable online) was of no help. Finally after months of a continually worsening problem, a person on the Rheem help line told us it was probably dirty ignition coils. She gave us instructions on opening up the unit and gently cleaning the fragile coils. Now we have to do this complicated process every few months. Very annoying! And the most frustrating thing is that my friends with other brands of tankless heaters have never had to do anything to theirs after many years and they LOVE their tankless heater. I HATE mine!

NEVER BUY A RHEEM HOT WATER HEATER. We bought a 40 gallon Rheem hot water heater from Home Depot. After 2 weeks we awoke with the house full of fumes and the carbon monoxide alarm was sounding. Here is my experience: 1. They dont actually have technical support. What they have is untrained people, without any actual experience reading a script from a manual. 2. If you have the same issue 2 or 102 times they will repeat the same painstaking process each time as though you never had the problem before. 3. If you ask to speak with a supervisor, they are basically hired to ** the customers and duck liability.About me: I just completed building a duplex single handed. Foundation, framing, electric service, gas service etc. I have done my own HVAC and H2O heaters in my own homes and apt buildings for 40+ years. My workmanship is excellent and take pride in getting it right the first time, every time. So after only a few weeks operation, an H2O heater comes close to killing my wife and myself I call the company. After very frustrating phone calls, they send out a tech. After 45 minutes, without checking gas pressures, or pressure switch or actually doing any diagnostics he resets the controller, starts the heater and leaves. 15 minutes later it is in lockout. More calls, nobody listening to the CO/fume issue, they decide to send a new pilot assembly. There is zero possibility of this fixing a draft problem, but it is the cheapest part they could send. So, their solution is to send a 15$ part that wont fix the issue and turn the thing back on and see if it poisons us again.I declined that solution. They said that was all they were willing to do. Home Depot has said they will replace or give store credit which would be acceptable, but we will see if that follows through. One of the HD workers says he gets a very high return rate on the Rheem unit so my guess is HD will stop selling these in a year or two. In short, Rheems response to a critical, even life threatening situation is completely inadequate, technical assistance is less than what any handyman could find on the web in a couple of minutes, and at 1/10 the aggravation.Another issue (might be the same issue) is the bearings in the blower are awful noisy for a new unit. Rheem used to be a good dependable brand and I still have 3 of their older furnaces installed which I have been mostly satisfied with the exception of the cheap bearings they put in the induction blowers. I wont be buying Rheem/Rudd units again unless they have exceptional reviews.

I have a small apartment building that was serviced by a 40 gal water heater for over 10 years without one problem. In the last 2 years I bought a 40 gal Rheem water heater and it failed. I was told it was too small, so I purchased a 50 gal Rheem water heater which failed in 6 months. They sent me parts and it failed 2 additional times. Each time requiring a whole new boiler, valve, and thermostat assembly. My question is how did one 40 gal last 10 years and I can’t get 3 years out of a water heater with new technology and a larger capacity? My calls to Rheem were in excess of 30 minute wait times and 20 + callers ahead of me. Another bad sign!

I replaced my old hot water tank with a Rheem energy efficient model Guardian System RHGPRO50-40F. Same size as my former tank. When I fill my bath tub the hot water turns lukewarm after a few minutes. The licensed installer told me that this is the way that all new energy efficient hot water tanks work and that the next person to run hot water for a bath or shower would not experience this. Seriously? His suggestion was to run some hot water about 20 minutes before I filled the bath tub and when filling the bath to only turn the hot water faucet on the bath 1/2 way. I tried that and the temperature of the water continued to decrease. So I have to stand by the tub as it fills constantly checking the water temperature and turning down the cold water to maintain the water temperature. I have turned up the temperature on the hot water heater to almost max. That had not solved the issue. I have tried to get this addressed or get an answer from someone and even asked if perhaps I needed a larger tank with no luck. If it is indeed working as designed how can they call this an energy efficient hot water heater when I have to waste water and keep the water at a much higher temperature than I did with the one that was not energy efficient and it was able to fill my bath tub.

We have had nothing but problems with our Rheem tankless hot water heater. Right now at this moment we are without hot water and have been so for almost 2 weeks now. Our unit is under warranty and needs to be replaced. Rheem did send us the vent kit, but no heater. We have called customer service. The first two ladies we spoke to were nice then we were transferred to another lady that was quite rude and absolutely no help at all. She told us that we need to contact the parts service department, our problem isnt HER problem. On the phone for hours with no results. Our plumber is at his wits end dealing with this company. We were told to go to Menards and purchase a new heater ourselves and Rheem would reimburse us for the cost. Yeah right! Rheem needs to send the unit, because I do not trust that they will reimburse us after all the trouble we have had getting anything out of them. We are still under warranty! We have company coming for Thanksgiving and no hot water! Im snapping and so sorry we ever went with Rheem. We are so disappointed in this company and the way they treat their customers. My advice to anyone considering a tankless, DO NOT BUY ONE FROM RHEEM!!!

Rudest customer service department ever all the way from the customer service reps who answer the phone to the supervisors of the area. I called because our water heater broke on December 23 when it was only 3 years old and received no assistance. The service guy was told the part wasnt available for 2 weeks. The supervisor told me no one called in. After pulling teeth, she finally agreed to double check my serial number, and it was typed in wrong. He did call in. The initial rep and supervisor were very rude, and not at all sympathetic. The repair man was also given the wrong information. He was not offered an alternate replacement part that would also work. We will be replacing our tankless water heater, and it will not be by Rheem.

Water heater quit working (2 years old). Call customer service - told me that I needed to find out the color of the wiring connector inside the control panel. Drive home, take it apart and determine that it is white. Call back. Told replacement part would ship and arrive tomorrow. Great. They call me to say that the water heater is under recall and to call them. They dont tell me that the part they promised isnt really being shipped. I call them. Transferred to another department. Now Im told that I will receive an e-mail in a couple of days telling me how to get a part a couple of days after that. That means no hot water for six days. Request to speak to a supervisor. After 30 minutes on hold, I get tier 2 support - just another call center. Told that the warehouse is closed at 3:00 pm and the part might ship tomorrow - meaning only five days with no hot water - If they really do ship the part and it isnt defective - which some other posts suggest it might be. Similar to some of the stories I have read here, I had the displeasure of owning a Rheem Power Vent water heater. There was trouble from the start. Ive previously spent close to $700 on labor for covered repairs.” Today was the last straw. The blower was gone again! It’s another $350-400 in labor to replace. We told them to yank the Rheem and give us something that would work. Here is the list: a blower (twice), a valve that went bad, and something with the electronic unit all inside of five years! Sure, the part is covered, but I cant afford this piece of junk. Until this water heater, I had owned three others at various homes over 17 years and never once had a repair. Please pass the word about Rheem water heaters. They should be making things right.

We installed a Rheem tankless water heater system in February 2017 and starting about a year ago, it has consistently failed to produce hot water. It appears to be a computer/software problem, as our plumber is able to reboot it, but we have not been able to do so following the manual. The reboot may last a few weeks, or 24 hours, and there seems to be no discernible trigger. Our next step will be to remove the system and replace it with traditional water heaters.

My plumber is not willing to take the heater to where it was purchased without charging me the time which is substantial. So Rheem wont honor the warranty unless I bring the whole water heater, this makes no sense. In essence they are saying if I cant carry the water heater into the place it was purchased I can get reimbursed. What is that but a sham! I will never purchase a Rheem product again!

We purchased a new A/C unit on March 12, 2014 for a secondary home in Fla. This unit is not a rental. It is used by us a few months a year. We purchased the property a few years before and it still had the original a/c, so we decided to be safe and buy a new one. MISTAKE! We used a local A/C company in that area and purchased a RHEEM along with the semi annual maintenance contract. We recently made a trip to Fla and found that the a/c wasnt working and that it also froze up causing wet floors. We called our A/C company. The cost was 500.00 to come out on Monday 1/2 (a holiday). We were only there a few days and needed to get it fixed to prevent mold/mildew. They needed to put a dye in the system to see if there was a leak. Well there were multiple leaks. So for an addtl 586.00 for labor they would fix it. Their warranty is a joke! Rheem knows that their products are defective and they only last a short period. They should have to pay for the labor to fix their defective product. I wish we could bond together and go after them for a selling faulty products and hold them accountable for costs associated with their defects. This is the United States of America, we deserve more.

We have decided to replace our hot water tanks before it fails. My wife figured it was about 13-14 years old. I was shopping around for a tank and it finally clicked, why don't I see what brand we have now, as 13 years is pretty darn good. The installer had the date of installation Dec 24/2001... WOW. It’s a Rheem Professional 410 professional grade. So that's what I will be looking for now. A instructor at my work in the plumbing department suggested I get a basic model (6 year warranty), but make sure I drain the tank once a year and wait until the water runs clear to get all the sediment out and prevent corrosion. Don't forget to turn off the breaker first. I'm definitely getting another Rheem. Good luck with whatever you decide.

We purchased A Rheem Water Heater, model #6G40-36F3 at Menards. My husband installed it and as he tried to light it the ignitor would not work 90% of the tries. Called the phone number for Rheem in a big sticker on the side of the heater. It says not to return to the store to call them for assistance. It said they were not available even though according to the sticker on it they are available 7 days a week. We looked up some other numbers and tried to contact them but no one available. Finally my husband got someone on a number that we found after a couple of hours of frustration. She agreed that the ignitor was bad and was sending us a new one. It would take 3-4 business days and this was on Saturday. The ignitor arrived on Wednesday and was an easy install. This episode was more time consuming and frustrating than necessary. If you have a big red sticker on the side of the water heater saying not to return to the store but call Rheem then you should make sure that phone number is actually answered by someone. When I brought this frustrating experience to Rheems attention they requested that I call them. When I called I was placed in a queue that said it would be about 20 minutes. I emailed them and said I was not willing to sit waiting approximately 20 minutes for them to take my call and told them to call me which was almost a month ago. Very poor customer service. Be aware when you purchase that they may not be available to help if there is a problem.

Purchased a 50 gallon water heater in 2011 with a nine-year Rheem guarantee. Awakened yesterday to a leak in the unit. Since I was 5 years into the warranty period, I did not expect much but called the customer service anyway. A polite technical representative explained that the element gasket had failed after I described the leak. Called my plumber who came immediately and determined that the unit failed. He replaced both elements. Still leaked. Called customer service again and they suggested something I did not understand related to the power supply. The plumber took the phone. Within minutes he whispered to me the technicians at Rheem were not knowledgeable. He asked one of the three he spoke to how many heaters she had installed. She told him she had observed an installation once. He spent 1.5 hours trying to get them to honor the warranty in any way.I went to Lowes and purchased a new heater which my plumber installed without charge. The final Rheem representative told me I had invalidated the warranty with the new installation. She stated we could have gone through additional technical assessment via phone had I not replaced the unit. I asked for one example and she stated Testing the junction box. I responded that she was talking nonsense and asked what other technical assessments we could have done. She repeated that it did not matter because I had replaced the unit and invalidated the warranty. Please read the other stories presented here. The pattern is the same. Rheem had no intention of honoring their warranty. Their representatives offer questionable advice (use a voltmeter, check electric supply in a leaking unit, etc.) and clearly could not respond to my plumber who challenged them.

Three months ago, one of them burst at the bottom and flooded my basement. It was not a problem because I got 6 or 7-year warranty on the product. I then called Rheem they confirmed that the product is under warranty. They gave me a return number and advised me that I should take the defective heater back to where I purchased it.The contractor took it back but the distributor where it was originally purchased said that they will not exchange. I contacted Rheem and they told me to try another distributor--same thing, no exchanges. I called several more and asked Rheem if they could ship me one they said no. This has been ongoing for three months so I eventually contacted the BBB. Rheem said that they would give me a fair market value. This turns out to be about $400 when a new heater cost is about $800--not fair at all. Please do not purchase from Rheem because they do not honor their warranty. I purchased a different brand to replace the defective one. You will get ** when your heater fails. I had to pay an additional $400 for a new heater.

It was a terrible, stressful ordeal with both companies. Rheem and American Standard each sent parts for their 6 year warranty stretching two weeks until Im stressed to the point of purchasing a new one because none of the parts solved the problem. Apparently this is what these companies count on... the customer getting fed up to the point we choose to buy another water heater for $800 every 3 years in exchange for a hot shower!!! I am a single parent working part time for LAUSD on summer break with $766 to my name. There goes our summer savings... again. Time to try another company. Im convinced all are the same... they may last 3 years with if youre lucky. Its like pulling teeth to get them to honor the warranty, and you will not get a replacement without spending a ton of money for a licensed professional in the process, which is why Im buying another brand. I purchased a Rheem Paloma tankless water heater in November 2012. The unit had a bent exhaust pipe right out of the box. The seller sent a replacement and I contracted with a plumbing company to install the unit. Additional parts were required just to adhere to basic code requirements. The unit oozed an oily substance and the power quit halfway through a cycle (fun times when taking a shower). They said to send the fail code and I have not heard anything back for more than 10 days (I had included photos also). The unit also emitted an oily substance that beaded up and so now Im reluctant to use it at all. Not having a potable water source in a suburban home is a real downer. Im taking water samples to the County Water Health Department tomorrow to see what substance is in the water. The installer I hired has now passed on doing anything further, left the job, cleaned up his mess and waived his installation fee for fear that he might be linked to this product. Rheem has admitted that the unit is not in production and out of warranty. Its another reason to never buy things like this on eBay. Based on the other posts on this site, Rheem is displaying behavior that needs to be well publicized to avoid rewarding this kind of corporate behavior to those of us in the consuming public. Rheem has a list of other tankless units posted that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and mine does not yet fall within that list.

I have had good luck with Rheem gas hot water tank. I bought it 23 years ago, installed it myself and it is still going. Since that time I have added a garage to my house and want to put it in the garage. I am going to buy a new one because I am on borrowed time with it now and my next one will be a Rheem unless someone knows another one can outlast mine?

We have a five year old tankless water heater. The gas control valve went out. We were told this rarely happens. There is only a five year warranty on parts and we missed the deadline by four months. Rheem customer service rep was very rude. Our plumber recommended Rheem because they had a reputation for good products and parts. I wished I would have researched instead of taking his word for it. I would never buy a Rheem product again.

I had a new Rheem Classic Heating and Air Conditioner installed on 6-14-2012, or at least my Homeowners insurance did. After receiving 2 bids for replacement, my insurance company awarded the bid to a dealer who installed Rheem Units. The unit was a combo heating and air conditioner unit that sits outside, at the back of the house. It is a RRNL unit. It is a 2- 1/2 ton unit, which was the size of the one replaced. The old one kept our house cool in the summer and warm in the winter, unit it suffered hail damage that rendered it useless.Long story short, the new unit has never worked right as it does not even come close to cooling our house. Of course our old unit had real Freon in it where the new unit uses the 410A stuff. Unit has already had to have compressor replaced, has already had to have Freon added once and needs again and a new fan motor. It is not even 4 years old yet. The fan on the unit runs continually and never shuts off in the summer. We keep the thermostat set at 72 and according to the digital readout, the unit never cools the house down to this point, thus running day and night.I had to pay $200.00 labor to have the compressor replaced under warranty, which I dont think I should have had to do. When the fan went out a couple of weeks ago, I asked the installer/repairman if there was any recalls on this unit and do they ever get a LEMON in these. He told me no on both questions. I had to pay to have Freon installed, but the fan was replaced under warranty and he did not charge me to switch out. I am really dissatisfied with this unit and which I had my old one back, or at least this one replaced.

Purchased a 40 gallon Rheem gas water heater June 2013, and as of Sept./Oct. 2016, it has already developed a bottom leak. The room is dry climate and in all the 40 years that I have had water heaters in this room, never once did I have a unit that developed a bottom leak. Rheem is apparently garbage these days. Not recommended.

We purchased a 10-gallon water heater for my office just to run the DW and hot water for the sink - no biggie just 4 people in the office. Called Rheem. Gave them all of the info. Told them where it was and they said basically ** you since you did not put it in your house, your warranty has been downgraded from a six-year warranty to a 1-year warranty. DO NOT EVER BUY ANYTHING WITH THE NAME RHEEM ON IT EVER.
