We have a small space under our house for an electric water heater. We dont have much of a choice. We bought a Rheem 2 years ago, and have to replace because it was leaking out of the seams. We got a new one home, and opened the box. The bottom of the heater was all bent. Had to take it back. Waiting for the replacement, as I type. I told the husband to have them open the box at Home Depot, before he brings it home. Next years investment will be to replumb for an outside or garage heater. I am putting a curse on the people who built this house, and am beating myself up, again, for buying the place.

What happened to the Rheem quality that I grew up with. This unit is only 3 years old and began leaking at the base below the lower T-Stat. It caused severe water damage to the interior of my unit. My plumber shared that the quality control on the assembly line is poorly managed. Examples of units that have failed revealed only partial interior glass lining which instantly began rusting and a thinner gauge of metal used to build the tanks.

There are lots of problems at the start. Finally, it was fixed after Rheem sent a man from the home office. it worked for four years then went to heck. The cost to me at this point is over $1800 from their techs out of Denver and plumbers in the Greeley area trying to fix them. Rheem sent one new unit out but not enough pipe to install, and then I was informed that I was going to have to tear out part of my finished home to install and they wanted me to install the 1st unit before they replaced the 2nd. What a mess, and thousands to install. Now the head tech at Rheem, Mr. Daniel **, has been dragging this out; hes not returning phones and doing nothing to help me. Hes not even giving me an answer to what they will do. I am so sick of this. So very much money to buy and install at the start and now there is no hot water and more and more costs, all because Rheem 1st tankless system and venting was not right, so you, the homeowner, must figure out how to get hot water in the home where there is no place/room to install, no electric or water or gas lines to change to some other type of heat. Just tear down a new home and pay thousands of dollars to get hot water.

Updated 08/16/2021: Six month old RHEEM hot water heater stopped working. I could not get thru to anyone at RHEEM by phone nor their webpage. Their webpage said they had no service workers in my area. So per warranty, I paid a plumbing company to repair it. Warranty says 1 yr., parts and labor. Found them on FaceBook and left a review, finally after several days and messages they called and emailed me paperwork to have filled out. Had to chase down the plumber for a list of parts and labor broken down, their W-9 form, and RHEEM wanted copies of CANCELED check from the bank. Lucky I paid cash! Sent it all in certified return receipt. All sent in 6-30-21. Today is 8-16-21, I have received nothing from them. My post on their FB page have been deleted. Please check their reviews online before purchasing from them, I am NOT the only one with RHEEM problems.Original Review: Bought Rheem 40 gal electric HWH in January 2021, now it is 6 mos and it just stopped working. The breaker is fine, also tried the reset button... Nothing. Ive called 3 phone numbers and tried to contact them thru their useless webpage. What good is a warranty if I cannot contact them for service!

Worst Experience of my life. Do not, I repeat, do not buy their unreliable products. Customer support is horrible, and impossible to reach. My new water heater broke down after 1 year of installation. I called their customer support, they hung up on me after waiting for an hour and half to talk to them and mind you I called them at 8:30 AM. The next time I called I had to wait 3 hours. If the average waiting time is 2:20 hours then maybe just maybe you should hire more tech support!!! Or maybe stop selling cheaply made equipment!

I had a Rheem water heater in my new house, only 3 1/2 years old. It ended up being defective and needing replacement. It was very difficult getting any assistance in replacing it. I found a plumber to assist with the installation. I found the wholesaler where my builder purchased the water heater. After 9 months dealing with the wholesaler, I finally was able to get a water heater. I paid the plumber $550.00 for installation, knowing that Rheem would likely cut me a check for this cost. Found out, Rheem was going to let me eat this cost. I would not have incurred this cost if it were NOT for a defective water heater. I was told by a Rheem representative that this cost is not in the warranty. Sorry but very poor business. I will not purchase or recommend any Rheem products because of this.

This is to anyone who is considering a RHEEM hot water heater. I just purchased the 50 gallon 40K BTU unit and I have had no luck getting it to ignite. I called the service number and they told me it was a faulty igniter. They gave me an option to have it overnighted or look for it locally. I found the part locally but they told me to check the igniter out of casing first because they usually dont fail. Long story short it was not the igniter. Through a secondary check the RHEEM tech figured out it was the entire gas control box. I now have to wait for 2-3 business days for the entire assembly. I just paid $600 from HD and my family has no hot water for 4 days! ITS A TOTAL JOKE. DONT BUY THEIR JUNK!

Purchased a 50 gallon water heater in 2011 with a nine-year Rheem guarantee. Awakened yesterday to a leak in the unit. Since I was 5 years into the warranty period, I did not expect much but called the customer service anyway. A polite technical representative explained that the element gasket had failed after I described the leak. Called my plumber who came immediately and determined that the unit failed. He replaced both elements. Still leaked. Called customer service again and they suggested something I did not understand related to the power supply. The plumber took the phone. Within minutes he whispered to me the technicians at Rheem were not knowledgeable. He asked one of the three he spoke to how many heaters she had installed. She told him she had observed an installation once. He spent 1.5 hours trying to get them to honor the warranty in any way.I went to Lowes and purchased a new heater which my plumber installed without charge. The final Rheem representative told me I had invalidated the warranty with the new installation. She stated we could have gone through additional technical assessment via phone had I not replaced the unit. I asked for one example and she stated Testing the junction box. I responded that she was talking nonsense and asked what other technical assessments we could have done. She repeated that it did not matter because I had replaced the unit and invalidated the warranty. Please read the other stories presented here. The pattern is the same. Rheem had no intention of honoring their warranty. Their representatives offer questionable advice (use a voltmeter, check electric supply in a leaking unit, etc.) and clearly could not respond to my plumber who challenged them.

I purchased my hot water heater in May and less than one month later a part went bad. The heater would not stay lit. The part took over 7 days to come then another part went bad. Now I have to wait 2-4 more business days for that part to come. After spending 1000.00 dollars for a hot water heater in May I have had parts replaced on a brand new hot water heater and now its November. I have a 6 year warranty. Just replaced 2 gas water heaters with new Rheem water heaters. After three weeks the 1 went out and I have waited a week now for Rheem to send a technician. When I call to follow up I’m given the run around with no commitment to repair anything? I’m beginning to believe these warranties are bogus? I keep calling and cannot get a commitment date for a technician/plumber to come out and repair this water heater that cost me over $1100.00. I need hot water! I don’t understand why Rheem cannot find a plumber when there are plenty available? They try to make you believe that they have special technicians to repair Water heaters but no one can make a commitment or even find a plumber? I think this warranty they supposedly provide is nothing more than a sales scheme to draw in unsuspecting customers to buy their water heaters. I’m very disappointed in my experience so far????.

April 25, 2015 my plumber installed a Rheem 40-gallon H2O Heater bought at Marina Del Rey, CA Home Depot at my Santa Monica rental house. The water did not get hot & we assumed it would in several hours. My tenant called me April 27th that the water still was not hot & observed a big water leak coming from the unit. My usual plumber who installed the unit was 100 miles away working & unable to arrive. I called RHS (Reliance Home Services), they arrived in 30 minutes & determined the H2O Heater as defective. My tenant was very upset and demanded emergency replacement now. Reliance informed me they could replace the H2O heater within the hour and guarantee hot water and a working H2O heater. I went online and found other complaints of Home Depot Rheem 40-gallon H2O heater. I always thought Rheem was a good brand. I read Home Depot is purchasing low quality Rheem H2O heaters. I could not take another chance of getting Rheemed by Rheem as other angry Home Depot consumers of Rheem H2O heaters describe their frustration. So I incurred a 2nd H2O heater expense & installation with Reliance for emergency service. Although, the tenant and I were pleased to finally have hot water within the hour! I feel as others that this is totally unacceptable to sell bad products! I was unable to send pics of receipts due to my malfunctioning VZ cellphone!

Purchased at Home Depot in 2017 a 40 gallon Rheem Water Heater, paid for installation from handyman. All was well for about a year when the gas assembly unit went out about a year after initial installation. Forward to February 8, 2020 and the water heater quit again. The first time it quit Rheem had a local installer replace the Gas Control Unit part. This time they just sent the part. I installed it last night and nothing. I can ignite the pilot, but it wont stay lit. I called Rheem again and the gentleman said it sounds like the pilot assembly. So now I have to wait for that part to show up... And I have to install the part. I am so over this company and their failed water heater. Shame on Rheem for not standing by their product and doing the right thing. Shame on them for making a grandma install their failed parts. Shame on Rheem.

My water heater was recalled due to fire hazard. I was informed by Rheem that the control panel they normally provide (free of charge) is back-ordered with no ETA. I was told that I had to return the faulty water heater to the point of purchase for a new one. I got the exact model, just a few years newer and had to pay ~$500 more for the new one, okay fine. Here is where it gets bad. Rheems deal was to reimburse me the installation fee up to $450. I provided all of the necessary paperwork, filled out their forms as instructed and have email confirmation that my reimbursement is approved and a check would be mailed to me in 6-8 weeks. Here we are over 10 weeks later, and counting, and no word from Rheem. They will not respond to my emails and I cannot reach anyone on the phone. What started as their faulty product, barely halfway into the products warranty, should have been a free fix has ended up costing me well over a $1,200! I would have been better off to cut my losses and purchase a water heater from a different manufacture, which is exactly what I will do when this one craps out before the warranty period is up. I held up my end of the deal, they will not hold up theirs.

Finally three years 4 water heaters later I bought an American made one!Do not by Rheem or Richmond. If you do I promise in less than a year you will be installing a new one and their warranty is a joke. 3-year warranty. None of mine lasted three years and I couldnt get anything replaced, fixed, refunded. Horrible customer service. Buy any other brand than this. Save yourself the hassle. Spend a little bit more money and get a good brand. Im so sick of replacing hot water heaters. I hate that company. They know its going to break in a year and youll have to buy another one. Purchased new Rheem water heater. Installed in new home 8/27/2020. Tested pressure relief valve as instructed in Use & Care Manual. Valve would not fully re-seat and leaked to ½ gallon in 24 hours. Tried valve several times to see if it would flush out any material that may prohibit it from closing properly, leak continued. Called Rheem Tech Support at 1-800-995-0982 on 8/23/21. Sat on hold for 27 minutes before being disconnected. Called a second time, on hold for 51 minutes before someone answered only to tell me I had wrong department and they could not help. Called Tech Support # again, on hold 37 minutes, asked for a supervisor. Was told that Parts Warranty only good for 1 year from manufacture date. I was given a part # and told I would need to purchase part for about $37. Told them I have documentation of when Water heater was installed and put into service, that doesn’t matter, parts only good for one year from manufacture. Started calls at 11:30 AM, ended 1:45 PM, over two hours. This water heater touts a 10 year Warranty, evidently need to get to fine print to learn that parts that will commonly fail are only given one year from date of manufacture. I am a builder and have had multiple Rental properties, this water heater was for my own home. My water heater failed and after contacting Rheem tech support they agreed that the unit needed needed to be replaced. No one in my region [including Rheem] had any replacements so Rheem told me to purchase one from Home Depot, which I did. After months of emails, submitting numerous copies of documents and hours of phone calls I received a check for 1/2 of the replacement unit value. Rheem informed me that the unit wasnt worth what I paid for it. My cost would have been the same from Rheem, Home Depot or a Rheem authorized dealer. Rheems lifetime warranty is a lie. Its a great water heater, but you would be better served buying a decent quality unit from another manufacturer. After that, I have asked for a compensation.Rheems customer service team in April asked me to send proof of payment for services such as a copy of your cancelled check FRONT/BACK or a credit card statement. If paid by cash, please be sure to provide the phone number for technician/company so we can confirm payment with them, which I did through both regular mail and email. But so far I have not heard from them anything. When I called Rheems customer service #, they said they wont handle it. I have to contact their billing department. This company doesnt stand behind their product. They installed the water heater at at 4 star hotel and it leaked within two months of installation. It wasnt a small leak. It was a steady stream from the internal tank on the bottom. I called the company and spoke with Daniel ** and he said they could replace it but basically I was on my own. It didnt matter that it had caused some structural damage to the walls or molding. They wouldnt send a representative to inspect the unit. The unit was faulty and the company did not stand behind their product or the contractor that installed a product we believed to be good or offer good customer service for products. Things like this causes contractors like us a huge liability and possibly lost us a big client.

Bought this new water heater in 2019. 10 months later per tech support the gas valve was bad, they shipped another one, we installed it in July 2020. Now August 2021 the same issue, looking at other options. The thermal coupler is new, the combustion shutoff is good. Vents are not blocked. My assumption is the new gas valve they sent was a rebuilt one or a faulty one.

Our water heater has been in service for roughly 1 year and has developed a leak in the heat exchanger. Rheem advertises a 12 year warranty on the heat exchanger, but they have denied my warranty claim. They have my money, so they are content to find excuses to deny claims rather than stand behind their products. Almost $2,000 down the drain. Now I have a piece of junk to dispose of and extra plumbing to decide what to do with. I will never again buy a Rheem product. Buyer beware. Other companies seem to have higher customer satisfaction. I would strongly recommend buying from one of those other companies.

I bought a Rheem 50 gal. residential gas hot water heater. Installed it myself, because its not difficult. Lit the pilot and gave it ample time to heat. Got a shower that evening and the water temp. alternated from warm to cool and continued to cycle that way throughout the entire shower. Couldnt get any help from Home Depot. Most reps there dont know their ** from a hole in the ground. Looked online and found some broke-** plumbers asking for donations to solve problems. What I did is what most should do, but dont because they dont have the time or cash. This is precisely how a company like this survives. There is not enough coverage on what a piece of ** product these ** put out. Just another sell out company that has junk put together by those from the land of dirty **. Had a plumber buddy suggest Rinnai. So I drained the Rheem and took it back. Put a Rinnai in and lived happily ever after. Because Im from back east and dont mind speaking out. Every time Im in Home Depot, supply yard, hardware store, etc.. Ill check the plumbing supply aisle, and have thus far talked 3 people out of buying Rheem products. Feel like getting Rheemed Id say. That doesnt hurt their profit, but if people keep it up and bad mouth them every chance they get, especially us contractors, eventually they may build a better product or at least hire a few professionals to help. Either way, Im from the old school and its too late, will never buy anything this company puts out and have steered other contractors to this site, so they can see for themselves the amount of dissatisfaction. Thank you Consumer Affairs and all those who took the time to help talk me out of buying Rheem.

I bought a Rheem furnace 2 stage variable speed and A/C unit. It was installed in summer. In winter, I noticed that furnace kicks in directly in the second stage and never works in the first stage. It is too noisy and heat variations are high. I tried for 3 months to determine the contractor to come and fix the issue. It was not an emergency, but the unit was under warranty and did not do what was supposed to do. After 3 months, the contractor comes and tries to call the dealer in order to get support from them as the contractor did not know what to do (despite the fact it seems a very simple setting). I took 2 days off, and every day the contractor cannot reach the dealers technician despite the fact that this was scheduled in advance. I was frustrated and tried to send a complaint directly to Rheem. I filled in their contact form (there is no way to contact them via phone) and wrote a long note venting my frustration and bad experience with the whole chain. And at the end, when I tried to submit, it didnt go through. I tried 6 times and every time, it failed without telling me what the error is. So in the end, there is no one to contact at Rheem to explain the situation, and how the dealer and the contractor and possibly the quality of their product affect their reputation. In the end, I am a very unhappy Rheem customer, and I would never ever recommend someone to buy a Rheem product due to the overall experience I had with all 3 entities involved (producer/dealer and contractor).

Eco200pvn tankless water heater - Purchased 2011 still under warranty. Professionally installed. Large investment for efficiency. Flame sensor defective. Unit starts, flames come on then shuts off. Contacted Rheem customer service by email three times no response. Local contractors do not work on this model. Multiple complaints of same problem on line. Major safety problem as the only way to get hot water is to turn the water on and off at the unit so the initial flames warm the water. If the unit starts all members of the family rush to shower while we have hot water. Called customer service limited hours not responsive. Very poor unit! UNSAFE! No customer service. Never use Rheem again.

I recently purchased a Rheem 40 gallon electric water heater from Home Depot. The day it was installed I waited about 8 hours before trying to use the hot water which was a lot longer than the 2-3 hours recommended by my contractor. Much to my dismay, there was still no hot water! After a second visit from my contractor it was determined the bottom heating element was defective. A call was placed to the 1-800 number on the water heater and here I sit waiting and wondering if a technician will come out to replace the part anytime soon. Very disappointing to have this happen on a brand new water heater.

Purchased a 50 gallon Rheem electric hot water heater from Home Depot. Had a master plumber install the water heater. He thought all was working well. Never got any hot water. Plumber came back later to see what was wrong. Plumber contacted Rheem and explained what was going on with the water heater. Rheem told him it was defective and gave him a case number. They also told him a plumbing company in Maryland would handle checking out the heater to see if it could be repaired. By the way, I live in Georgia! Plumbing company in Maryland told my plumber they did not have a work order for my water heater. My plumber contacted Rheem at least ten times concerning the heater. Rheem could find the case number, but could never find any paperwork concerning my plumber contacting them. They put the burden on me by telling me to find a licensed plumber and having the heater repaired and then they would reimburse me. Is this the best they can do to stand behind their product? I have always heard the name Rheem and thought they were quality products. I will never buy Rheem products again. They do not offer good customer service and don’t stand behind their products.

I purchased/installed a 40 gal GE hot water tank from Home Depot just 1 month ago. Its a model SE40M12AAH, w/12-year warranty, and while its a GE brand believe the mfg is Rheem. When the top element is on the tank makes a loud hissing noise and you can almost hear it heating the water. This noise is constant when the hot water was just used, or is running. I cant even stand to work down my basement anymore because of this obnoxious unbearable noise. Sure am glad its not installed on a first floor living area.I called GE/Rheem technical support and the rep asked me what kind of water supply I have? I told him well water but its filtered, doesnt have any iron/sulfur/minerals, and is as clear as spring water. He told me the the top element probably has sediment built up on it and I need to remove it/clean with beach. I told him Ive lived here for 26 years, have had 3 hot water tanks, and none of them ever made this loud noise. I also asked how sediment would build up on the top element since if there is any it would build up at the bottom of the tank? He said I will still need to pull the element out and clean w/bleach. I asked him what tool I needed and he said I need a 1 1/2 deep-well socket to remove the element or a plumbers element removal tool. Think this is called a element winch. Regardless, I dont have one and he told me I will need to get one.The tech did say he would send me a complementary replacement top element.I cant believe after just 1 month of use Im expected to work on this new hot water tank. Should I expect this every month?? I purchased the more expensive 12 -month warranty hot water tank since I thought it would be better and last longer. Its already turning into a nightmare and wish now I wouldnt have gone with GE/Rheem.In looking over the warranty there is a 1-year full warranty where they are supposed to send someone out to replace defective parts free of charge. I sure wasnt offered this service and I saw nowhere in the warranty where they mentioned well water may be a problem. It sure wasnt with the other tanks I had including 2 which were Rheem brands. It should also be noted this tank is listed as a self-cleaning tank so how could any sediment be building up on the elements already? They sure dont build them like they used to. I also miss the exterior bottom thermostat control knob for turning down the temp up/down as needed, or down when you are on vacation. Now you have to remove the bottom thermostat cover, and insulation, to turn the temp up/down with a screwdriver.Ive yet to contact Home Depot on these hot water tank problems and it will be interesting to see what they say.Its kind of ironic Home Depot raised the price on this tank to $366 from $319 a month ago. Nothing like paying $47 more for a hot water tank Im already having problems with after 1 month of use.

I installed a Rheem 50 gallon electric water heater in September of 2016 and had a manufacture date of August 23, 2016, less than 2 years old. I noticed paint flaking off around the bottom and some minor rust forming around the bottom and where the paint was flaking. The water heater is in a basement room but is on a wood platform and not on a moist floor, and has a dehumidifier 5 feet away. I called Rheem customer service to explain the problem. They asked for pictures, which I sent them. They looked at the pics, and proceeded to blame it on condensation from being in the basement, even though it’s off the floor and right next to a dehumidifier. It’s is right on par with others experiences with Rheem. They do not honor warranties and make all sorts of excuses to not have to replace anything. This unit has a 6 year tank warranty on it, and it’s less than 2 years old. I have never had a water heater rust on the outside from condensation. Rust on the tank is a sign of failure of the inner lining and will only get worse. Luckily, I bought the Home Depot extended warranty as Rheem is useless and screws its customers. Horrible company.

We installed our Rheem water heater Model, RHEPRO52-2, in May, 2004 and it's still going strong after 14+ years. Never had a problem or leak. I had completed construction of my new home in 2001 with a 40 gallon Rheem water heater. It lasted until mid year 2012 at which time it developed a leak in the side of the tank about half way down from the top. I was surprised that it only lasted eleven years when past experience was more like 20 to 25 years. I purchased a Rheem 50 gallon water heater on 6-20-12 and immediately experienced trouble with the lower element leaking. The plumber came out and removed the element, cleaned everything and put it back together with Teflon sealer. I notified Rheem, but no one ever returned my call. Yesterday, 11-27-17 I noticed water in the containment pan. I pulled the lower cover and found the lower element leaking again. I tried to reach Rheem customer service with no luck! I strongly recommend avoiding Rheem Manufacturing water heaters. Looking around on the internet, I am not the only one who feels this way. What a terrible company.

We have a Rheem air conditioner that was installed March 2017. Since then it’s broken twice. The first time it was a simple fix as the defroster board needed to be fixed. Not a big issue as the repair company could do it quickly and only cost $250. It breaks again 7 months later in the middle of August in Florida. The condenser coil has a leak which caused all the Freon to leak out and burn out the compressor. None of that is an easy fix and will end up costing us $1900 for a unit that’s less than 3 years old. Called and talked to Rheem and they are unwilling to help. All they’ll tell you is the parts are under warranty and there’s nothing else they can do and will hang up on you. We have decided to replace our hot water tanks before it fails. My wife figured it was about 13-14 years old. I was shopping around for a tank and it finally clicked, why don't I see what brand we have now, as 13 years is pretty darn good. The installer had the date of installation Dec 24/2001... WOW. It’s a Rheem Professional 410 professional grade. So that's what I will be looking for now. A instructor at my work in the plumbing department suggested I get a basic model (6 year warranty), but make sure I drain the tank once a year and wait until the water runs clear to get all the sediment out and prevent corrosion. Don't forget to turn off the breaker first. I'm definitely getting another Rheem. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Our water heater was professionally installed in May 2011. Last month the unit started leaking. I pulled out the paperwork and went online to verify the warranty. According to their warranty verification site, the warranty was valid through 6/11/2024. I called the Rheem customer service line (800-432-8373) and spoke to someone that confirmed that the warranty was valid. He said I needed to have a plumber look at the unit first and he gave me the name of a plumber that I could use. I paid $140 for him to come out and he confirmed that the unit was properly installed and the heat exchanger was leaking. I called Rheem back on 6/26/15 and the customer service agent (Scott, who was very nice) asked some basic questions including Were you the homeowner at the time the unit was installed? I bought the house one year ago. He then told me that because I was not the owner of the home when it was installed, the warranty was not valid.I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me was the one in charge. I asked to speak to his manager and he took my information and told me he would have him call me but no one ever did. I sent an email to Rheems customer service center and again got no response. As a result, I have had to pay $1,975 to buy a new tankless water heater and have it installed. To make matters worse, I was forced to buy another Rheem as any other brand would have required additional costs to retrofit the piping to fit that product (according to the plumber that Rheem referred). I feel that the product failed after 4 years and this should have nothing to do with the fact that I bought the house 3 years after it was installed. I would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the new unit under the original warranty. I am also disappointed that Rheem did not respond to my request to speak to a manager or my email to their customer service center.

Plumber comes back out and replaces defective heater and puts in a brand new replacement, even though the replacement was free I still had to pay the plumber $350 to install. Well now its five years later and the replacement had water coming from the top of the water heater, another defective heater, my garage flooded again, personal items ruined again!! I call claims dept and they tell me theres nothing they can do because my warranty was only good for the life of the first water heater? What? You have defective products that ruin my garage twice and cost me all kinds of money and theres nothing they can do? How about you make a better product!! We purchased a home in 2014 that was fully rehabbed before its resale. The previous owner installed a pair of Rheem/Ruud electric heat pumps for the first and second floor heating and cooling. (It looks like the manufacturing date on both was 2012). I had problems with the first floor unit malfunctioning last summer. A heating and cooling place examined it and determined it had some wiring that shorted out. They rewired it successfully and got it going again. Now, this last winter (2018), I started getting huge electric bills and realized the heat pump was running almost continuously. The cause was eventually determined to be a leaking coil in the air handler in the basement. Since were not the original purchaser of the HVAC equipment, none of it is covered under the factory warranty. But the installer advised that these Rheem/Ruud coils are leaking on almost all of the units made around that 2012 time-frame, and its throwing good money after bad to spend the $1000+ to repair it, vs buying a whole new system. At this point, Im just waiting for the 2nd. floor unit to fail as well...

We bought a beautiful new Rheem HVAC which included a heat pump and gas furnace. The trouble started after our system was two years old. Aug 8th 2020 -(1) The fan motor on heat exchange stopped working and had to be replaced. Within one Month's time we had to replace: (2) The coil and (3) The reverse valve. Although the parts are under warranty the labor cost us around $3000.

Bought a 40 gallon Rheem water heater and installed, couldnt get it to work. Called the gas company thinking it was a problem with our gas. Not the issue. Called Rheem and they sent a part (that wasnt the issue either). Called them again to exchange the water heater and they said no, that if it was giving a code it could be fixed. In the meantime we were having to go to family homes to take showers. They gave us a reset code to try to reset it. It worked for 4 hours then went out again. Tried to reset it again with code and the damn heater blew up 6 inches from my husbands face. Lucky he was not injured. Called customer service, very pissed and they told my husband they would disconnect the call if he didnt settle down, didnt even ask if he was OK.. Finally got sent to claims. After 10 days of having this thing we are getting q code to exchange... Not Happy!!!

I purchased a 40 gallon Rheem water heater in August, 2016. This past Tuesday, no hot water. Plumber came and replaced the bad Thermo coupler. Tonight came home to no hot water. Plumber came, said it is a faulty gas valve. He gave me a choice-back-order a replacement part for $300.00 and wait days to get it and add in labor or it would be cheaper to replace the water heater. That is what I opted for. I am wildly disappointed in that Rheem unit. It was nothing but trouble from day one!

The Rheem inducer died after only 2 years, which means it ran only 12 winter/fall months. The original cost of install for the inducer was about $500 for the inducer and $200 for labor. The furnace filter was changed every month during use and the newer furnace was serviced yearly. The inducer was clearly a LEMON. Since the company that installed it claimed their distributor would not get me a replacement after I offered to pay their cost but no profit, (I didnt think it was right they sold me a lemon and then make a bunch of money selling me a replacement), I called Genco. Genco was who the installer of the furnace told me to call because they now own Rheem/Ruud.Genco was not even remotely willing to help.... much like most reviews I read about Rheem/Ruud service. You can add Genco to the poor customer service list with Rheem/Ruud. Just bought a new inducer online for $210..... so I can get my furnace working again. The contracting company said the cheapest they could get one for from their distributor was $367..... What a racket!

My wife is worried our original Rheem 81V52D 50 gallon water heater is going to go out. I replaced the lower heater about 12 years into its life; only been drained once. 4 people live here and I'm the only 5 minute showering man. Good recovery from back to back showers for 1 hour. Now the hard part is getting a dual 4500 W unit like I had.

I purchased a 50 gal Rheem water heater XG50T12DU36U0 from Home Depot, I installed and it would not light up unless I would close and reopen the gas line manually. I called Rheem, troubleshooted the water heater with them over the phone and they decided it was the gas valve. I replaced it for them and the problem continued. I called them again, troubleshooted the heater again and they said it was the ignitor and asked me to replace it. I refused to replaced because I did not want to damage the heater and invalidate the warranty. Their repair company replaced the ignitor, the unit started after many sparks and then would not work again. I called Rheem again, troubleshooted again the flammable gas sensor, reset the gas valve without fixing the problem. They said it was the thermal protection device and asked me to open and remove the burner which I refused to do. I got tired of this and asked to return the unit. Rheem says they do not recommend that because they want to keep troubleshooting the unit (while I take cold showers...) and do not issue a Return Authorization number. Home Depot manager says I need to contact Rheem, get a return authorization number and they do not honor the 90 day return policy nor provide me a copy of it (they said I can take a picture of the policy on the counter). The policy does not mention water heater as non returnable items but still the manager does not accept me to return the heater. The manager said also that since the water heater was installed I cannot return it. Home Depot 1-800 customer service says I can return the unit (with receipt, serial number on heater and undamaged) but they cannot override the store manager. Do NOT buy RHEEM WATER HEATERS from HOME DEPOT.

Rheem hot water heaters are junk, dont waste your money! I purchase a new Rheem hot water heater less than five (5) months ago from Home Depot and it has already gone bad. We followed the proper channels and called Rheem customer service department and they figured out what they believed went bad on the unit. The customer service representative promised to overnight the part and told us how to replace the part. We have now been six days without hot water as the rep forgot to overnight the part and it now the weekend and they cannot send it until Monday for Tuesday delivery. We called Home Depot for help at this point and their policy is after 90 days we own it and they cannot help us with it unless we want to pay them an additional $100.00 then they would try to help. Dont waste your money and time on this product and think twice about purchase a major buy at Home Depot! Going to give up and just throw away the Rheem and purchase a different brand! The problem I experienced is a serious safety issue and I hope as many people read this and spread the word as possible. My Rheem 40 gallon hot water tank started to leak gas at the Honeywell valve internally. The tank is installed in a small closet which is a confined area in which combustible natural gas can accumulate. When I contacted customer service they tried every way they could to get out of sending a replacement part. Because of my experience and the seriousness of the issue I decided to do a little bit of research and discovered that I am NOT the only individual who has had this problem.I used to install hot water tanks when I was younger with a plumber friend of mine and I can tell you that I have never heard of this issue before. It just did not happen on the older non digital gas valves. I have since found out that these Honeywell gas valves are notorious for breaking down and they are used by many different hot water tank manufacturers. The leakage issue is a serious problem in a confined space natural gas can easily blow up and cause a fire. To make matters worse if you live in the country and use propane which is heavier than air the combustible gas will build up around the combustion chamber making an explosion very likely. These malfunctioning Honeywell valves are all over the internet and YouTube and have been a well known problem by the manufacturers for several years yet nothing seems to be done about them! I would advise people to avoid any tank with these potentially dangerous malfunctioning valves period. I would also advise people to avoid Rheem products in general based on my customer service experience. They should have been happy to replace the valve considering the dangerousness of the situation instead of asking so many questions and trying to get out of it. They dont have the customers best interests in mind based on my experience.A lot of the issues with this companys hot water tanks are with the Honeywell gas valve and malfunctions of said valve. Neither company seems to be interested in fixing this problem. I would stay away from these hot water tanks and these valves in particular if I were you! You just shouldnt have to deal with these kind of problems.

Consumer Affairs is obviously an unreliable source rating this product at over four stars with nothing but one star reviews as far as the eye can see. I’ve been doing plumbing for 15 years. I will never install one of these pieces of junk ever again. Don’t waste your money. This is the fifth heater I’ve been stored and had trouble with within two years from Rheem. Their product is junk. They made water heaters in the 1980s-90s that not only operate better than the 2021 models but can outlive their life by 10 years plus. Don’t be scammed by Rheem. They make these things to break so they can make more money off of you. Also don’t be scammed by this unreliable source that cost their self consumer affairs who obviously does not care about the consumer. Read the reviews consumer reports. Where the ** do you get your information. Apparently whoever works at this consumer affairs place can’t count 4.8 stars and nothing but one star reviews you can read them for days. Hey morons for one star reviews doesn’t equal four stars. You’re a ** idiot

Our family purchased a Rheem water heater in September of 2018. November 30, 2019 it quit working!! We had a plumber out, not knowing what was wrong. After 4 hours of working on it/talking on the phone with Rheem representatives, it was determined that the thermocouple/starter unit would need to be replaced. We were told our part would be shipped out that night! Today, December 4 we received an email that the part was JUST SHIPPED today!! We won’t have water for 2 more days. Pretty tough for a family of 6!!!Rheem replacement parts are not carried by plumbing companies. We also had 4 companies refuse to work on the Rheem water heater, saying they avoid the products! Poorly made product and even worse customer service! We will NEVER purchase another product from this company and we intend to share with all of our friends as well!!

Had to replace our original HVAC which was 13 yrs. old. Went thru Home Depot and they suggested RHEEM and was installed by ARS. It didnt work right away, and I have to tell them that we were moving into a hotel since they guaranteed that it will be done within 24 hrs. or they will move us into a hotel. Well, they worked overtime the next day so they didnt have to move us. Installed August 2013 and we had cooling problems April 2016, HVAC repairer said low on freon, warned us that it might be leaking. June 2016, cooling problems again, same HVAC repairer came and said it was blocked drain and suggested we avail of their maintenance plan and we did.August 22, 2016 cooling problems again. HVAC repairer came at night and concluded that coil has a leak and was 90% sure it was the coil inside because the outside unit coils didnt have any signs of leakage. For this visit we paid $177 labor and freon refill. So far we have spent $700 for the three visits. To replace the coil it will cost $500 plus and that is already with our membership discount. This RHEEM brand is a piece of junk and reading through all other reviews, Im so mad that I didnt do my research and trusted the Home Depot specialist. The only consolation I have is that I took a maintenance plan so at least I get a 15% discount every time they have to do repairs.

Had the one fail after 3 years and was told I had to bring it to Home Depot myself and then Home Depot only gave me a credit for lowest sale price of the unit instead of even exchange. Anywho as I needed a water heater and Id rather use the credit then lose it all I decided to pay the difference and bought the platinum edition unit with the 12 year warranty with 3 year in home labor coverage. However, 2 hours after install I noticed the pan was filled with dirty water. Turned out the internal tank failed. POOR quality control. No way this tank was tested at 300psi as the sticker states. Maybe the brand but not my specific tank! So meanwhile I just got done lugging old one into Home Depot, then this one home, installed etc. Now been trying to reach Rheem for 5 days straight but they are having phone issues. Finally get ahold of them and am told its under warranty so I can on my own dime and my own hurting back uninstall this unit, drive it to Home Depot and exchange it even though paperwork and stickers on tank say DO NOT RETURN TO STORE... So I guess this 12 year warranty just means that Im able to install/uninstall for exchanges for a period of 12 years worth of crap merchandise? What is the point in having a 3 year labor in home warranty if they wont send anyone to my home!

I purchased a new 12-year water heater in December 2009 from Home Depot. Less than two years later (21 Aug 11), the water heater broke down, the pilot light failed to light and there was no hot water. I called GE/Rheem service line and instructions were given to re-light the pilot. I got it going for only five minutes before shutting off again. Then, I called Pacific Gas and Electric Company on the next day, 22 Aug 11, for unbiased diagnostic check. PG&E came on 23 Aug 11 and determined that the water heater was properly installed, the air vents were clear and no obstructions but, again, the pilot light failed to sustain or remain lit for more than six minutes. I called GE/Rheem service line and described the sequence of events. The phone technician quickly stated that she would send a gas valve control which would take care of the problem. I asked if there were problems with these heaters but I did not get a clear answer. She stated that she would send out the part via FedEx to arrive the next day between 10-12 noon. Its already 5:00 p.m. but there is still no part and it is too late now to find a plumber to come install. Meanwhile, it has been four days without hot water. I checked the Internet and found an incredible amount of complaints regarding the specific product of GE water heaters and many of them were purchased from Home Depot.

Purchased model #M061516469, 12-year warranty, 50 gal. unit (Serial XG50T120DU36U0) on Feb. 17, 2015. In mid August 2016 the unit began making a banging noise. Turns out the burner assembly was failing and the banging were actually mini explosions at burner shut down. Remember this unit had only been in service for 17 months. In Sept. 2016 the burner assembly was replaced, labor and parts were covered under warranty. Fast forward to Feb. 2019. The banging started again. Following Rheems advice to begin warranty replacement of any failing parts a plumber came out to diagnose the problem. For a mere $215 the plumber told us what we already knew, burner assembly failure. This time the cost to diagnose came out of our pockets since the warranty on labor is only 3-years, the warranty on parts is 12-years. The cost to install the new burner assembly was to have been an additional $225, but the plumber was going to give us a discount and only charge us $175. As it turns out installation of the burner assembly would be zero because the part is OBSOLETE! Yes, parts on a four year old 12-year parts warrantied water heater are obsolete. With that said the solution offered by Rheem is a warranty replacement of the entire unit!! We have to remove the old unit, take it to Home Depot, replace it with another Rheem water heater and bring it home. If we want it professionally installed the cost is on us. This just boggled my mind! These heaters are extremely expensive. To have such an expensive unit fail, not once, but twice within four years, then have the company render it obsolete as to require replacement is just beyond me. I hate to think that Ill have another Rheem product in my home that is destined to fail due to obsolete parts before its even close to the end of a 12-year warranty. Rheem should have absorb the cost of professional installation of their expensive parts obsolete four-year old unit. Seems like it would be the right thing for Rheem to do.

We had our water heater replaced in Dec 2020 with a Rheem Performance 40 gal that was manufactured in July of 2020. August 13th 2021 the S.I.T. valve went bad, so I contacted Rheem on Monday August 16th as it was a manufacturer warranty issue. Rheem was quick to provide a replacement part and tell me they would schedule a technician. Three days later no part, no technician, no hot water. I called back and this time was told the first service rep had misspelled information and they would fix it and get things sent, but they had no technicians in my area so I could pay a plumber myself and submit it for eventual reimbursement. At this point I was losing patience, the following Monday August 23, we had now been without hot water over a week, but now I had replacement parts, but plumbers in the area werent willing to work on Rheem products and the ones that were were over priced. We are on a fixed income and thanks to other repairs and safety upgrades our savings was nearly gone.I contacted over 22 plumbers and finally just called Rheem back and told them they needed to send a technician because no one wanted to touch their product, if I had still been able to I would have gone to the basement and done it myself. The person showed no empathy so I asked for a supervisor and was put on hold for about 40 minutes, when I finally got the supervisor and was going over this whole thing I glibly remarked,I mean you guys obviously knew you were send out bad units, you have a line dedicated to the specific issue. To which the supervisor (Chris) surprisingly responded, Yes we know. This company knowingly send out bad units, to be installed in homes, offices, daycares... what if the valve had gone bad the other way and not shut off? It could have blown the tank, because relief valves fail more commonly than you would expect. This is a bad company operating on bad policy and in bad faith.

I replaced my 15 yr old HVAC unit with a Rheem about 3 years ago. Since then, Ive had the fan unit outside replaced in yr 2 as it was unbalanced. Not from misuse and not from damage. That leaves quality. Now in yr 3 I have a blower unit that is acting up and goes into alarm so frequently well turn the system off at night as there is no way to suppress the alarm. A061F and T022F are the codes shown on the EcoNet t-stat display.
