Carrier Appliance Troubleshooting
Built on Willis Carrier's invention of modern air conditioning in 1902, Carrier is a world leader in heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions. They constantly build upon our history of proven innovation with new products and services that improve global comfort and efficiency.
Air Conditioner Troubleshooting
CHECK THE THERMOSTAT SETTINGS
Knowing how to troubleshoot an air conditioner often starts with the main control – its thermostat. Thermostats come in a variety of options, starting with very basic models that simply control heating and cooling temperatures and fan operation. More sophisticated programmable versions can be set to automatically change temperatures throughout the day for better comfort when you are home, and higher efficiency when you are at work or asleep at night. Wi-Fi models can be controlled from a mobile device or computer anywhere you have access to the internet. Considering all of the options available, there are a number of ways your thermostat settings can make it appear that your air conditioner is not running correctly.
Symptoms you might notice include:
- Lukewarm air blowing from the registers/vents at times, and cold air blowing at other times
- Higher than expected temperature reading on the thermostat
- No air blowing from the registers/vents
AIR FILTER IS DIRTY
The next most common step in AC troubleshooting is checking for a dirty air filter. Your AC system is more than just the outdoor unit sitting by the side of your home. Most systems also include an indoor air handler unit, usually a furnace or fan coil. The indoor unit should include an air filter that traps dust, dirt and other airborne particles. Whether you have a basic, 1-inch furnace filter or a more sophisticated electronic air cleaner or purifier, maintenance is the key to effective indoor air filtration and proper cooling system operation. Lack of maintenance can lead to a clogged filter and blocked air flow. These can lead to loss of efficiency, discomfort, or in more extreme cases, system failure.
Symptoms of a dirty filter include:
- The air temperature in your home is warmer than normal
- Airflow from your cooling registers seems to be less than usual
- The AC runs for short periods of time before shutting down and re-starting (short cycling)
REFRIGERANT LEVEL IS LOW
Your air conditioning system uses a chemical called refrigerant to help cool your home. The refrigerant is pumped through copper tubing, the indoor evaporator coil and outdoor condensing unit, in a continuous loop. As it flows through your AC system, the refrigerant pulls heat from your home and deposits it outside, leaving indoor air cooler, less humid and more comfortable.
If refrigerant levels get low, you might experience the following air conditioner problems:
- House not staying cool enough
- System running continuously or for longer than normal cycles
- AC turning on, then off quickly, several times in a row (short cycling)
ELECTRICAL PANEL ISSUES
If there is no air coming from the registers, the house is too warm, and the system isn’t running at all, you might have lost power to the system. Your air conditioner runs on electricity, so if it won’t power on, locate your home’s electrical panel (breaker box). Look for a blown fuse or a tripped circuit breaker that isn’t in the ON position. Keep in mind that your air conditioner outdoor unit will be connected to a dedicated 220 or 240 volt disconnect or circuit breaker located near the air conditioner unit. The air conditioner also is connected to a circuit breaker or fuse at the electrical panel (breaker box). Remember that electricity can be dangerous – even deadly. If it is a blown fuse or a tripped circuit breaker, make sure you are comfortable and competent to safely replace the fuse and/or reset the breaker – if not, consult a qualified professional. Do not attempt to troubleshoot electrical issues yourself. If the circuit breaker trips again (or the fuse blows again) it’s time to call a technician who knows how to troubleshoot an air conditioner with electrical issues.
EVAPORATOR COIL IS FROZEN
With a typical split-system central air conditioner, the evaporator coil is often located inside the home or garage, as a part of the air handler unit. If the indoor unit is a furnace, the evaporator coil is typically mounted where the outgoing air flows. If it’s a fan coil, the evaporator coil is typically located inside the fan coil cabinet.
You may have a frozen evaporator coil if you notice:
- Higher utility bills
- Inadequate cooling
- Excessive condensate drainage near your indoor unit
- Frost or ice forming on the copper refrigerant lines coming from your evaporator coil cabinet
- Frost forming on exterior refrigerant tubing or the outdoor unit
Issues that can lead to a frozen evaporator coil include:
- Excessive buildup of dust, dirt or other pollutants on the evaporator coil
- Excessively dirty or clogged air filter
- Excessive buildup of dust, dirt or debris on the outdoor condensing unit
- Low refrigerant levels
CONDENSING UNIT IS FAULTY OR BROKEN
With a typical split-system central air conditioner, the condensing unit sits outside your home and includes the outdoor coil, the compressor, the condenser fan and its electronic controls. It’s time to troubleshoot an air conditioner for a faulty or broken condensing unit when you notice issues like:
- No cooling or inadequate cooling
- System turning on and off rapidly (short cycling)
- System running continuously or for unusually long periods of time
- Frost or ice on the coil or copper refrigerant tubing
- Condensing unit not turning on at all
Furnace Troubleshooting
Not heating?
Most likely, either the electrical system providing your furnace’s power has shorted or the power switch has blown. Try resetting your furnace’s circuit breaker. If it has blown, you will need to replace it.
The furnace’s igniter might either be cracked or faulty. Check the part for cracks, if it is then replace the igniter. If it isn’t cracked, use a multimeter to test for continuity.
Cycling irregularly?
Your thermostat might be adjusting incorrectly, causing the furnace to cycle on and off too often. If your thermostat has an adjustable calibration scale, adjust the heat anticipator. If this does not stabilize the unit, you may have to replace the thermostat.
Not blowing hot air?
Your blower motor may have completely burnt out. If this doesn’t seem to be the case, then the connecting belt may have simply broken. Test to see if power is reaching the motor. If it does, but isn’t running, the motor has likely failed. If the motor runs but air doesn’t move, the connecting belt has probably broken. You’ll have to replace the belt.
Blowing too much air?
The control board regulates the amount of voltage that reaches each functioning part. If the relay that controls the blower motor has failed, it will continually send voltage to the motor. Replace the control board.
The contact that controls the blower motor on your thermostat may be stuck closed, causing the blower motor to run continuously. Use a multimeter to check for continuity. If it appears the thermostat is the issue, replace it.
Leaking water?
Check the drain pipe
Starting and then stopping shortly after?
Your furnace’s flame sensor monitors the burner, detecting whether a flame is present. If it is either defective or dirty, it will not be able to detect a flame. If dirty, clean the sensor using a fine abrasive pad. If faulty, replace the flame sensor.
Heat Pump Troubleshooting
When troubleshooting a Carrier heat pump, it's essential to follow proper safety procedures and consider the complexity of the system. Here are some general troubleshooting steps you can take:
Check the Power: Ensure that the heat pump is receiving power. Verify that the circuit breaker or fuse is intact, and there is power reaching the unit.
Thermostat Settings: Make sure the thermostat is set to the desired temperature and operating mode (heat, cool, or auto). Verify that the batteries in the thermostat are fresh.
Air Filters: Check and clean or replace the air filters if they are dirty or clogged. Restricted airflow can affect the heat pump's performance.
Outdoor Unit: Inspect the outdoor unit for any visible issues. Ensure that the unit is clear of debris, vegetation, or obstructions that could impede airflow. Check if the fan is spinning when the unit is running.
Indoor Vents: Ensure that all indoor vents and registers are open and unobstructed. This allows for proper airflow throughout the space.
Error Codes: If your heat pump displays an error code, consult the user manual or contact Carrier's customer support to understand the specific issue indicated by the code. They can provide guidance on how to address it.
Reset the System: Try resetting the heat pump by turning off the power at the circuit breaker or disconnecting the unit for a few minutes. Then, restore power and observe if the issue persists.
Professional Assistance: If the troubleshooting steps above do not resolve the problem, or if you encounter any unfamiliar or potentially hazardous components, it's advisable to contact a qualified HVAC technician. They have the expertise and tools to diagnose and repair complex issues with your Carrier heat pump.
Remember, these are general troubleshooting steps, and the specific troubleshooting process may vary based on your model and system configuration. Always refer to your heat pump's user manual or consult with a professional technician for accurate and model-specific guidance.

Our 9-year-old Carrier furnace was blowing cold air. The repair guy for Carrier said we need a NEW FURNACE! If he only replaces the part, there is no guarantee it will work (up to $2,000 for repair). It s December (here in New York) and we have waited SEVEN DAYS and no part in sight! We will NEVER buy another Carrier!
Like others, it seems that a few months right out of warranty something breaks. I installed a top of the line Infinity 96 5 years ago. Last week the furnace motor stops operating. My service company followed the repair instructions that suggests replacement of a main PC board and then a motor module. It turns out the main PC board did not need replacement and the motor module was defective - a couple of months outside warranty. Carrier wont accept the unused main PC board back once it was opened. At wholesale cost I was out $900 for the two parts. I would wish that Carrier would accept the PC board back for credit and replace the motor module under warranty. So far I have had no luck going up the chain at Carrier. Any suggestions would be welcome.
11/3/10: Burgors Always Dependable, (Pul drain not while); customer said that unit will run then furnace will go off. But not go on. Cleaned fuse off. Cycle unit a few times. Drain cleaned too, unit is running fine, filter ok too. Paid $100.00.11/15/10: Burgors Always Dependable, was here 4-6 times in the last two weeks do to furnace; will run fine for about 8-10 hours then furnace will go off and customer will reset switch on furnace. Service man did check; sensor cleaned, burner box check, salt test check passes at this time. Replace start, drain box cleaned and check to ok replace switch at limit box burner and will check heat exchange too. (Cycle Ok too!) Crack in heat exchanger not safe to run unit replace limit in burner box. Service man not know about 3 times. Customer was resetting furnace switch. Paid $150.00.Somewhere in here, Burgors tried to get me to give him $800 for the new heat exchange, I found out it is under warranty from Carrier and didnt go through him b/c Mechanical Heating and Cooling said I wouldnt have to pay the 800 b/c carrier will reimburse them.11/18/10: Mechanical Heating & Cooling, no heat replaced heat exchanger, also bad igniter system tested and running fine at this time; heat exchange under warranty. Paid $319.00. This is the bill I dispute b/c they charged me $111 for a rush fee without any knowledge of it being a rush fee or option to have it on a rush bases.11/19/11: Mechanical Heating & Cooling, No heat; furnace running upon arrival, let complete cycle, checked past fault codes 12 blower on after power up ran through several cycles running OK at this time, also flushed trap. Check incoming power connections, all Ok. Paid (n/c considering they were just there the night before).11/26/11: Mechanical Heating & Cooling, found furnace tripped on high temp limit, reset checked coil very dirty customer cleaned checked capacitor ok ,temp rise ok 46; cut hole in return in basement, cycled unit running ok at this time. Paid $89.00.After all this, Mechanical Heating & Cooling are now telling me that the venting system must not be the right size; seems to me that if this were true then why did my system run for approximately 6 yrs with no problems. Problems just now occurring; I spoke to _______ from Carrier and he stated that this is not uncommon; Well then if that is true, then why was the Venting for the system not properly installed? Wouldnt it still be Carriers fault since they installed it?
I purchased from CARRIER a 3 ton, 2 speed heat pump and Infinity 2 stage, variable speed gas furnace in May 2005. In 2012 I had to replace the capacitor and compressor. The compressor was under warranty, but still cost me $568. In September 2016 I had to replace the evaporator coil to the tune of $975. Now I am told that the compressor needs to be replaced. The compressor is less than 5 years old! I called Carrier to voice my concerns and was transferred to the next level of customer service. Stephanie #** was rude. DO NOT BUY CARRIER PRODUCTS!
Purchased 2 model FB4CNF024 Carrier 2 ton heat pump 7/11/2014 and has had service checks by installer yearly. First blower motor out in 11/17/2015 replaced promptly under warranty. Second blower motor under warranty has just went out 11/23/2016 and told blower motor on back order til February 2017. This is on the same unit in the bedrooms. What is a senior citizen to do with severe neuropathy after brain surgery and very cold sensitive. If you use different motor voids warranty so must go without heat through winter. If I could give Carrier less than one star I would.
Five years ago, I had 7 5-ton Carrier 17 Seer units installed at my house (yes, really). It got hot a few days ago. Tech came out today and told me that 4 compressors have failed. All of the units run off of batteries first which are energized by street power and generator power. Ill keep everyone posted on how this evolves. I pay 20k a year for a 24/7/365 response on the HVAC systems. Hopefully, Carrier steps up and does the right thing.
Since our Carrier air conditioner was installed in 2013 we have had to have the coolant replaced in it every year. We are told we most likely have a small leak but that these leaks are very difficult to find. Almost $300 again this year. If I want to pay to have them find the leak and then flush the system and replace the coolant the cost will be another $1000. Sorry to say we are very disappointed with this expensive purchase with which we have no recourse.
I purchased an Infinity air conditioner from the Carrier Corporation through Airflow Designs in Orlando FL. The air conditioner was originally installed on May 3, 2007 and cost $7,600 for the unit and a 10 year warranty. On July 5, 2010 the compressor went out and again on May 22, 2015 the compressor went out again. After lots of phone calls and much aggravation I have found that they used Bristol compressors and would be using that same product previously installed when installing this compressor. If that compressor has a high failure rate why do they continue to use them? However they would install another condenser for $2545 (cost from Airflow cost from Carrier was $1545) made by another company. It took quite a while to get in touch with anyone that actually works for the Carrier Corporation to find out what kind of support they provide for ineffective products. I contacted the corporate offices for Carrier (5/22/2015) and they only meet once a month to discuss this kind of issue and I got a reply 3 weeks (6/15/2015) after the request for help resolving this matter. So the choices were to go with what is covered under the warranty and has gone out twice in the past 7 years or pay a large sum of money to replace this unit that seems to be problematic. What is the point of having a warranty if you are going to continue to get ineffective products installed? I am also wondering why this company thinks that I would spend that much money with them again instead of going with a company that has a better reputation! Keeping in mind that I have an extended warranty for parts and labor for this air conditioner.
The HVAC system was installed, new, in March of 2015. It seems unreasonable that the evaporator coil should fail within three years, but it (and my neighbors) did after about three years. Sure parts are warranted, but the labor was excessive for the repair. Id look elsewhere for a good unit if you have the opportunity.
Very dissatisfied with the quality of our Carrier 4 ton air conditioner (model 24ABB348A003). The compressor failed after only 3 years and it was not a blow out failure. The technician said it is internal failures most likely due to the quality of the compressor. The warranty of course only cover the park itself, not even the coolant they have to refill after reinstall the compressor. The diagnosis and the replace of the compressor cost about the 1/4 of the original cost and install of the air conditioner. It is ridiculous to have to spend so much on labor to fix a major component on an problem most likely due to the quality of their product. When speaking to a carrier representative, they do not stand by their product, only referring to the letter of the warranty agreement. Parts also does not include coolant cost. The excuse is that they do not know what exactly cause the compressor failure and they do not look at every compressor that failed, even those that failed in much less typical lifetime of the product. It is very good to know that Carrier does not take quality of their product seriously enough to diagnose major component that prematurely failed. Either that or they have so much failure on their compressor that they just dont care. Either conclusion does not speak well of Carrier as a company.
We purchased ours give or take 8 years ago. It was best deal in our price range and for size wise in comparison to the square footage of our home. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to purchase or replace their existing one.
I bought a high efficiency Infinity heating and cooling system from a Carrier authorized dealer in Oct 2009. Total cost was approx. $9500.00cdn. Both A/C and furnace came with a 10-year Carrier parts warranty. Also, I purchased 10-year Carrier labor warranty, which was offered in lieu of Carrier cool cash rebate of $350.00. My invoice clearly shows that there is a 10 years parts and Carrier labor warranty on both units. On May 31, 2013, our A/C unit stopped working. The dealer who sold and installed the unit is no longer in business. On June 3, 2013 I called Carrier at 1-800carrier, Canadian helpline. Carriers customer relations responded. She said that the dealer only registered for 10-year parts warranty and there is no labor warranty in their system. She said that she would send a message to Carrier office in Mississauga to look into this further and see what they could do to help me.On June 3, I received a call from Carriers technical division in Mississauga, who was extremely rude and simply said, There is nothing I can do to help you because the dealer did not register the labor warranty. Then he asked me for a warranty certificate issued by Carrier, which I never received. He wanted me to fax him a copy of the invoice, which I did. He said that he would talk to his sales management team and get back to me. He was focused more in telling me how their internal system worked rather than paying attention to my problem. He refused to give me his work number or the email address. He said to contact the 1-800 number (USA) and they would call him to contact me. After three days of several follow-up calls to 1-800-Carrier, the same person calls me back to tell me the same thing that there is nothing he can do for me. He concurred that there should be a 10-year Carrier labor warranty on both units as clearly indicated on the invoice. He also agreed that the cost of 10 years warranty was $350.00 (same as the Carrier cool cash rebate, which I never received because it was applied to buy the 10 years labor warranty), but flatly refused to honor the warranty because this warranty is not registered in their system and he could not go back and register this warranty after three years. He refused to send me his response in writing.
In less than three years of installing a new heat pump, we have had the upstairs computer board replaced, the outside capacitor unit and the upstairs blower motor. I have a case # given to me from Carrier for the concern of the unit. Of course, they say they havent had any complaints for these particular parts not lasting. According to all of the concerns I see from the reviews, I beg to differ. They have told me they will send a Carrier representative to us to have our unit evaluated if we have another problem as all things have been the inner electrical or computer parts. I have had no concern with our installer... just not happy with the product. I feel like spitting bullets.
It is extremely hard for HVAC companies to work with Carrier. My units coil broke so the coolant ceased working. I was charged $1600!!!! to replace the coolant although the coil was covered. Mind you, the coolant was lost because the coil failed. Carrier refused to cover it. NEVER AGAIN WITH THIS COMPANY.
Currently have 4 Carrier heat pumps at my home -3.8, 3.0 and two 2.4 units. Units installed 2009 in new residence. 3.0 unit evaporator coil replaced 4-2014, now coil is leaking again! Coils in other units, after HVAC tech. inspection could fail at any time!! Labor costs so far exceed $800! Carrier distributor can do nothing! Distributor can DO NOTHING, but I can -- NEVER, NEVER, NEVER purchase or recommend any product produced by United Technologies. Planning to present my case to Texas Home Builders Assoc. and recommend that they do not disappoint home buyers by installing United Technologies products in new or remodeled homes! CARRIER UNITS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!
I too bought a Carrier 3.5 ton split system a/c for my home in May of 2008. During the first year the installer would fix all the minor problems as they popped up, no out of pocket expenses. The 2nd year it started getting expensive. Refrigerant leaks, fan motors quitting, coils leaking and needing to be replaced, drip pan cracking and leaking, pounds of Puron added, startup capacitor replaced three times, and today 2.5 pounds of Puron. The only thing that hasnt quit yet is the compressor. I have spent a great sum of money from the yearly fix up. Carrier is undependable and expensive. My buddy had similar problems with his carrier. He installed his in 2007. After the 4th year of breaking down, he called a Trane dealer and had a unit installed. Up till now never a repair. He said for me to save my money and switch to TRANE.
Despite the inverter unit being sold to me as a cost saver, this is clearly not the case. The circuit boards are poor quality and do not last 5 years. Replacement boards cost the price of a new regular air conditioner. No-one advises you that you need to perform rust prevention, this prevention, that prevention when you have it installed, but when it goes wrong they are sure to let you know. I will never again waste my hard earned money on a Carrier aircon, nor an inverter unit. A regular, modern unit consumes roughly the same power as an average fridge/freezer. The cost to maintain an inverter unit is ridiculous.
I purchased a brand new heat pump August of 2014. I live in an area where you dont need to use the heat pump but only a few days a year. In the winter I use a gas fireplace or the gas furnace. September of 2016 my heat pump was making a metal on metal sound so I had a hunch I was having a Freon leak. I called my service technician who confirmed via a nitrogen test that I had a Freon leak. This basically is a new unit since it doesnt get used very often. I called Carrier to see if they would help with labor charges as my brand new unit now is going to cost $1,500 to fix just in labor charges which includes the $507 charge to test for the freon leak plus another $105 to replace freon. They were less than sympathetic and fully stated they do not help with labor charges no matter the circumstance.I will never use another Carrier product. I will never refer anybody to purchase I carry your product. I had faith in the company that installed it realizing they dont know the products that they get from the company from the distributor. Im highly just satisfied with Carrier and I think it class action suit needs to be brought against them for POOR products.
I am not one to complain about anything but Carrier is off the charts bad as far as customer service and warranties. I will say that the actual customer service reps were polite and professional. I had zero issues with the way they treated me but the message was poor. I will try to keep this as short as possible. We purchased a 3.5 year old home last year. The previous owner almost never used the AC. He figured that they ran it maybe 3 weeks total in the 3 years they had the home. We purchased mid summer and ran it sparingly last year. This spring we had to have it charged and again 6 weeks later. Another month later it was out of refrigerant again. They came in with a sniffing tool and found a leak in the evaporator coil. We had $500 into service calls at this point. I was told that it was manufactured on Aug 19th, 2011. I called in Monday August 22nd, 2016 and was basically told that I was out of luck because the warranty ran out on Friday. The fact was that it was not installed until October 20th, 2011 but no one could produce the original receipt. The original owner, original builder, original HVAC installer and current HVAC company all offered to call in or write up letters detailing the issue but I was told an original receipt was my only option. I would not recommend or ever use Carrier again. The repair cost me $1400 to go along with $500 in service calls and time off work. Poor quality and VERY VERY poor customer service. I would have been happy if they would have just warrantied the unit. I completely understand that labor is not something anyone would cover.
My June 2005 Carrier heat pump (50XZ036, packaged unit, 36KBTU or 3 tons) failed within the 1st year while parts and labor warranty was in effect. The evaporator/inside coil had to be replaced after more than one attempt by the original Carrier installer to simply recharge the leaked Puron (a trademark for R0410A, a type of Freon as for the old R22), and I hope for the best. The unit would quit cooling after several weeks of use. I heard on this site that 2005/6 evaporator failures are from using R22 evaporator coils, which are not designed to withstand Puron operating pressures. In 2009, when the parts-only warranty was in effect, the 2006 replaced evaporator coil failed, and I paid a second Carrier installer $450+ to replace the evaporator coil. The original installer wanted $900 in labor, of which Puron was ~$400. The 2nd installer had a lower Puron markup of x4 (~$25/#) versus x9 (~$50/#) for the 1st installer. Puron sells for $155 for 25 lbs. The 2nd installer in 2012 charges $35/# for Puron, R-414a.In 2010, the compressor failed to run for 20 hours; only the inside fan would run, and the failure corrected itself before the 2nd installer came to investigate the failure. The heat pump worked well in the next two years. In June 2012, I came back from vacation to a warm house (81F). The compressor was running all the time, and 72F air was coming out of the vent instead of ~58F. The evaporator coil leaked Puron, and it ices over. After 3 failed evaporator coils from the same cause of external tubing corrosion caused by the design of cooper tubing contacting aluminum fins, I can say that these non-moving and non-electronic components are a manufacturing defect.I am seeking that Carrier Corp. turn back the clock to 2006 and repair my evaporator coil for free for both parts and labor with the improved evaporator coil - something they should have done in the first repair in 2006. There is a Carrier October 2005 literature citing the option of getting a corrosion-resistant evaporator coil. This was never told to me in 2006 or in 2009. Why is there an option to a consumer to buy the $5000 heat pump with the poorly designed evaporator coil or the one with the improved tin version of evaporator coil? No one would buy the inferior product. The northern Alabama distributor mentioned that since 2010, Carrier will not install the inferior evaporator coils in the SE US. Just yesterday, this same distributor preferred to sell my 2nd installer the inferior evaporator coil while he had the improved tin evaporator coil. I asked him what his markup was in trying to sell these inferior evaporator coils. Oh, that is proprietary. After talking with the 2nd installer of my findings of the improved tin coil and the 2010 Carrier SE US directive, he called the distributor and found that the tin evaporator coil is available and cost less that the inferior one. If I do not get satisfaction from Carrier Corp., I am taking everybody to Small Claims Court.
We bought a brand new town home in 2015 with a Carrier air conditioner that was made in 2012. After only 7 years the oil and fluid leaked out causing the unit to seize up and die. Really disappointed in the overall quality and durability of this product. Would not recommend this lemon.
I built a new house in NC in 2006. I had two Carrier units installed. Every year, there has been a problem with one or the other. Either circuit boards, leaking coils and now both units cut on and off in the heat mode every minute or so. Labor has not been covered on any issues. I will never buy another Carrier product and will warn every person I know that intends on purchasing a new HVAC system.
Our Carrier heat pump system was so quiet. The only way we knew it was on was the cool air filling the room. Although the Carrier system is more costly than other systems, it makes up the cost with efficiency. Our electric bill came down drastically after replacing our dinosaur.
I purchased a Carrier Infinity furnace in 2008 thinking that this furnace would last as long as my previous Lennox. My previous furnace lasted 18 years without any problems. Carrier instructed me that I had a 5 year parts warranty and does not include labor. I have just learned that Carrier offers a 10 year warranty on parts after 2008 and refuses to cover any cost of my repair. I have verbally stated that Carrier products are designed to fail just before 5 years are up and I seriously recommend that under any condition do not purchase any of their products ever. Their customer service is absolutely horrible and they like to hang up on many occasions. I wish I had never brought this piece of garbage.
Unfortunately, we were unaware of the horrible reviews and lack of customer service with Carrier. We have a brand new furnace, 6 months, and has been serviced 8 times in 6 months with 4 days without heat in the midwest. If this helps anyone else, do not buy a Carrier. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, DOES NOT BACK UP THEIR PRODUCT AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE CONSUMER, ONLY JOB SECURITY FOR HEATING AND COOLING ON CARRIER FURNACES.
AC unit installed October 2008. Was serviced couple years ago, went down last year so needed to pay for more freon (sp) and labor cost, approximately $160. Now this year the heat pump went out and is now costing me another $1000 to fix. Service, change filters and maintain all you want, these machines will still fall apart!!
Freeze notices sent in email - servicemens visit confirmed bad fluid plugging A-coil. This is the 2nd service call on company recall for this area. Failures occur after first winter. Parts and tools on order. Wait and see about costs verses warranty. 362 days after new install of furnace and air conditioner.
Saved to purchase new heat and AC. Bought July 2018. So excited...finally not having to call and have our old heater fixed regularly (GOODMAN). At first it was so quiet, then one month later it is noisier. Okay were fine with it just nice to have air. Now our troubles begin...HEAT. When we put the heat on for the first time, you have a smell, normal, especially after sitting for a few months, not in use. Our rec. room is downstairs as well is our office. We can smell a chemical/chlorine, gassy smell. Way ahead of you. Called gas company, called installer and checked my monoxide detector. NOTHING. No leaks, they found no odor. Everything is running top notch and fine. Okay, now. We sound crazy but at night, there is a smell of gassy, chlorine, chemical.I looked online to see if others had this problem and they do... I called Carrier and they offered no solution or tell us what it may be. It is Jan. 24th 2019 and I am typing this review with a smell of gas, chlorine in the air. I feel sick to my stomach and have a headache. We get a sleepy feeling when we shouldnt be tired. We are extremely MAD that this is happening. We have monoxide, gas detectors on all floors, one right next to the unit. We checked this so often, we have a new hobby. Sickening... I wish we never bought this and I wanted my old Goodman back.
In 2002, I invested $6,000.00 to have Carriers top-of-the-line heat pump installed at my home. A very large investment for me! I thought it will be well worth it to have the highest quality, 2-stage, rated with energy star and uses Puron. Turns out this unit is quite the lemon. By the looks of all the other complaints I now see concerning the same system, I guess theyre nearly all lemons. Wish someone could make Carrier do the right thing and provide what they advertised. And are still advertising. I had this unit installed by a reputable heating and air company. From the beginning it never did work all that well. It did cool however so I did not complain. It only seemed to work about half as good as advertised. On real hot days, it would not keep up with demand and cool that well. If in the 90s outside, the best it would cool was to about 76-78 inside. Cool enough to live so I didnt complain. In 2006, it stopped cooling altogether, so I called what many believe to be one of the most reputable heating and air company around to troubleshoot it. They said the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced. This was under warranty but I would have to pay the labor. Labor to install the new compressor was $1,200.00. I had a couple other companies also price the labor and all were about the same. It killed me to pay $1,200.00 labor to install a compressor that is under warranty. I considered alternatives such as maybe just install a new unit, but a new unit would cost more than twice that amount installed. I figured this is one of the most reputable heating and air companies around so I told them to go ahead and change the compressor and paid them $1,200.00. It was cooling my home again but still only cooling about half what it should, same as before. In the winter, the electric back-up strips were on most of the time, even when outside was in the 40s. I put up, told the installer about this and they added Puron a couple of times at quite some expense. They told me I should have had them install the unit originally. Then they would stand behind it better. In summer 2008, there were many days in the 90s and the unit would only cool to about 79-80 inside. I had them check the unit again. They said the unit was leaking Puron from the charging valve and that this had nothing to do with them installing the new compressor in 2006. They gave me a price of $1,300.00 to replace the leaking charging valve. It was extremely hot outside (upper 90s) during this time, so I paid them the $1,300.00 to replace it. After that, it did cool our house down to mid to upper 70s. Still not cooling so great but good enough. Winter time came and back to having the back-up heating kicking in when outside in the 40s and later even when in the 50s. The next summer, back to not cooling so well but could live, so did not complain. Winter came again and using back up heat. When the next summer came, it was in the 90s outside and could only cool to the 80s inside. I had to have Puron added again buy the same reputable company? They would not cut me any break on the cost of the Puron. They said if they were the original installer in 2002 then they would take care of me a little better. After they added Puron this time they said to just call someone else if I had any more trouble with it. Now here it is summer of 2014 and not cooling at all. I had a different company look at it and they told me they believe the compressor is bad and recommended I call the same company that installed the compressor when it was under warranty. He said he have never worked on one of these very high efficiency units. I did call the Carrier Corporation a few times since the original install in 2002 and I was told that there was nothing that Carrier would do to help. We have Carriers very best unit on the market and we are sweating in our home and just hoping it will be cool at night so we can sleep. Not sure what to do now. I guess I will have to have another reputable company come out and install another unit or something. The new compressor was install in August 2008, not quite 6 years ago. I dont know if it will be under warranty or not. The original compressor had a 10-year warranty. Does that mean this second compressor will have a 10-year warranty? Wish Carrier would do the right thing and provide me with a new unit that worked as advertised. Any suggestions?
I purchased a new home in Sept. 2007 with a Carrier HVAC system. I made several complaints to the installation company during the first year about quality of the installation. Three trips and the company assured me they had corrected all items. In just under three years, cooling coils on both units of the two-unit system failed and had to be replaced. Replacement coils were furnished under warranty but the bill was $1500. I hired another company to do an analysis of system. Based on this inspection, I filed a formal complaint with state licensing bureau. Finally, about $4,000 worth of corrective action was performed at no charge. Corrections included the installation of an additional return air ducting that was not installed but was on original design.Well, now 3 years and 5 months later, the cooling coil on one unit has again failed leaking out all Puron over a weekend. Carrier will not provide replacement coil under warranty. Work is being completed today and Id guess the bill will be around $1500. So HVAC repairs of $3000+ in 6 years on new home has to be considered unacceptable quality.
I bought a Carrier heating and cooling system back in 2010. Had a problem with the condenser freezing up when the weather got cold. Happened several times but was rectified. This year the heat went out. Had the same symptom. The company I bought the Carrier from was no longer in business so called another one that was a Carrier certified. They condemned the unit. Heat exchanger was burnt. These typically should last for 15 years. Only lasted eight and a half years. Getting Carrier will replace the part but the problem is the installation is very expensive. Its like buying an expensive car. All the parts are very expensive and they charge a fortune to install it. Dont be comforted by the warranty. Its worth very little.
Just had a technician from the local Carrier Dealer inspect my inside unit. He informed me that the fan motor controller was malfunctioning and that it had to be replaced or it along with the fan motor. The unit is not yet 10 years old and this is ridiculous for it to not last any longer than this. I have already paid a couple hundred dollars for a capacitor coil that failed early this year. The local dealer discontinued installing the unit that I have due to too many failures and problems with the variable speed fans and controllers. Now I am faced with $1100 repairs not counting the labor due to a very inferior product. I would not recommend Carrier to anyone and especially the heat pump. Very weak components and will fail leaving high cost repairs and lost of use.
When the unit arrived from the factory, the plastic door latch was broken. The HVAC installer retained the broken door latch and indicated theyd try to get a replacement. That never happened. When I called Carrier for a replacement part, they indicated they do not ship parts under warranty and told me to go buy the replacement part locally. If they wont honor their warranty with a little plastic part that cost them fifty cents to make, I dont feel theyll be honoring it for large ticket items.
Just like 1800s. Beautiful heater for price and the scientific structure of craftsmanship a plus.
The worst product ever used. Something on the furnace broke and it shredded items in house, endangering human life. The absolute worst furnace ever used. The furnace shredded and burnt stuff in the house. Poor quality product. It happened about 3 years of using it, and then something on the furnace broke, leaking water everywhere. This is a Carrier furnace that uses a boiler. After fixing the water leakage. It started to shred items in the house, causing excruciating pains and sufferings. Please everyone with similar problems with Carrier furnace, should start a class action lawsuit.
I had a Carrier heat pump and air handler installed in 2017 (Comfort 25HCE418.1.5 ton... w/SEER 14.5; Carrier Performance fan coil w/variable speed DC blower). I had all the scheduled maintenance and now the evaporator coil leaked and I am being told it will cost $1425 to fix just for labor! What good is having a new system if it costs this much to fix? I was told by the tech that they had to replace these evaporator coils after one year! Even with the parts covered the labor is cost prohibitive. If these systems cannot be maintained even with regular maintenance, which was also expensive, then they must be defective! My heating and cooling bills were also huge and the thermostat had constant problems - going out, or not registering the correct temperature. You would think these companies would be concerned about their reputations. You would think that the certified dealers would also be concerned about the quality of these products. You would think there was some integrity in this business.
I purchased a heating and cooling package from Sears on about 10/15/2012. It was installed 10/23/2012. The unit did fine the first year but on about 12/20/2013 the heat pump began to fail to heat like it should and in about a week time, would not heat at all. So I called sears and they sent out a tech to found out the problem. He found a defective shift valve. Now being that, the manufacturer had known of this problem you would think that they would at least cover the labor being that it was a manufacturers issue from the start, not. Even though the parts are cover they want me to pay labor cost. I dont think thats these companies care about product but profit. The car company are made to fix their problem - why not the heat and cooling companies.
Moved into the new home in Dec 2012. By July 2014 had to have a capacitor replaced. Came home today and the entire unit is frozen. Was told by the serviceman that they were just notified by Carrier of bad modulators in the air handlers. $263 later (for labor), my question is... if Carrier knows of these bad modulators, why do I have to pay for labor to fix something that was wrong in the first place? Our prior unit (Trane) lasted OVER 20 years and in its lifetime we only had to have 3 repair calls (and all of them at the end of life of the unit). I will NEVER EVER buy another home if a Carrier is attached to it!!! I dont think a BRAND new home should have these issues and I should be able to have Carrier remove its unit and replace it with a brand that isnt going to nickle and dime me to death over the years!
Puron Model 24APA530A300 Coil bad - A/C stopped cooling on hottest day of year, and my a/c guy said it must be a bad coil. The unit was put in 6 years ago, and I figured Carrier would replace it. Just found out it has only a 5-year warranty, but starting in 2010 they made it a 10-year warranty. I think it is plain wrong that Carrier only has a 5-year warranty for a machine that costs upwards $6000. No way a coil should go out in 6 years.
I decided on a Carrier split system for heating and cooling in an older ranch with electric baseboard heat only. Best decision ever!! It's efficient and cheaper to operate than the new Ruud gas system in my old condo. The heat is so warm. It's not anything like the old heat pumps that seemed to throw cool air for heat. My old condo and my house are about the same size. Both are on slabs. My heating/cooling bills at the house are half of the condo's. What a blessing. Thank you Carrier!!
My inducer has bad bearings, sounds like a 747 in my home when the furnace fires up. In addition, the evaporator is completely rusted. I have a seven year old system, and the builder did not register the system at install. I contacted Carrier and they basically told me to go fly a kite, even though they say they would have warranted their product had it been registered. The outside compressor is badly weathered, paint is peeling, rusted. The install guy said that although it has a Carrier brand on the outside, they took another system and merely added the Carrier logo to it. So after seven years Im looking at a replacement of the system. Guess what, it wont be a Carrier.
Payne is a division of Carrier Corp. I purchased a Payne central A/C unit in 2011 and have regretted it ever since. By 2014, the unit was not cooling my house. I contacted the installer who came to diagnose and repair. I was told there was a small Freon leak and my vent directions were set wrong and everything should be OK. 2016 - Again the A/C not cooling house. The original technician did not return my calls. I hired another company to diagnose/fix. They told me there was a Freon leak that caused damage to my unit and it needs to be replaced. I contacted Payne (a division of Carrier). Wow! A service tech responded with aggression/sarcasm. He kept saying Well why cant you tell me whats wrong the unit? I kept asking him to call the HVAC company to find out. He told me I had to hire yet another company at my cost and that Payne would not pay for this even though he had not talked to the first company. He agreed to talk to the first company. Days later, no response. The outside HVAC company told me they have tried to contact the agent several times. No response. I contacted customer relations at Payne. I was just informed my conversation is being recorded. This unit is still under warranty and now I have read reviews from this site, I am horrified! I have spent hours on the phone. It has been 90 degrees this week and I cant get anyone to help me.
Purchased new Carrier Infinity series (Infinity Heat pump, Infinity air handler, Infinity Air purifier, Infinity control Thermostat, UV bulbs) through Sears in 2006. After the Carrier five year warranty expired: 1) Infinity Thermostat LCD failed $700; 2) Air purifier electrostatic element failed $800; 3) Circuit board on heat pump failed $700. Ok, the last one was due to a gecko crawling into the unit in cold weather and short circuiting the board. But then again, why did Carrier make such an open-to-the elements panel on the outside unit for sensitive electronics that would allow critters to crawl in? Dont forget the costs of the air purifier filter element - $100+ yearly (But you get a year’s service out of it still 8x more expensive than a regular Filtrete on sale at a big box store) and UV bulbs that Carrier says should be replaced yearly ($150 plus per bulb - 2 required). But the biggest shock: Last fall I wanted to clean the heat pump units outside coil and discovered that the aluminum fins on the Puron (Freon) coils have pretty much oxidized and are deteriorating (crumbling to dust) ON AN 8 YEAR OLD UNIT! Now I read that Carrier makes a Coastal heat pump that is more corrosion-resistant from salt air. Wonder why? I am ticked at having paid $10k new system + $2200 to-date in repair costs to Carrier to be an unpaid beta tester for their new technology. And the beta tester gift just keeps on taking. To Infinity and beyond are my estimated future repair costs on this system.
Purchased a Carrier Infinity furnace and heat pump on 6/21/13. The compressor went bad in 10 days on July 3, 2013. Carrier replaced the unit. Less than 3 weeks later, the unit shut down. There was a loose wire on the outside unit. Twice the techs have been out to try to fix the water in the garage during the summer. Wrapped the outtake lines and flushed the line. They say it is just condensation. A few days ago, I discovered I have a steady leak under my house. They will have to contact Carrier because they are not sure of what the problem is but they think it is a bad gasket. Does anyone know if there has been a recall on this system or is there a class action lawsuit? I seriously think I have a lemon. I have not contacted Carrier yet, but will this week if the leak is not fixed.
On Dec 29, 2021, I had a Carrier Comfort 2.5 ton 14 Seers heatpump and air handler split system installed. It replaced a very efficient old Trane split system that was just too old and had broken down. The new Carrier heatpump has been nothing but a problem. On heat mode and auto fan it blows cold and ambient air through the registers and is constantly running. It kicks in auxiliary heat in the air handler often cause the heatpump is unable to provide enough hot air by itself to even warm the house and I live in Florida!. I expect my electric bill to go up by $300.00 more a month with this American engineered and built crap. The ac company and installers said this is normal for a Carrier comfort heatpump constantly blowing ambient air in heat mode and constantly running and hardly ever shutting off.Tried calling Carrier to tell them the problem and they referred me back to the ac company. My foreign made Trane heatpump heated the house well before it broke down after 20 years of use. Heard that an American company bought Trane and the new Trane heatpumps being built are also crap. So, that is why I went with Carrier. Next time, I will buy a Bosch heatpump cause American products are poorly engineered and manufactured with planned absolescence, inefficient, not dependable or reliable.... CARRIER comfort American piece of crap.
Just installed a new 2 1/2 ton Carrier air conditioner. It emits 85 decibels of sound. It was advertised to be as low as 65 decibels. This is intolerable at night! Carrier could care less!!! NO recourse for me. Buying Carrier was a colossal blunder! I have no one to blame but myself. As it turns out American Standard was the best choice. Trane was second. That was based on exhaustive research, after the purchase. I found what seemed to be endless complaints against Carrier. How do you test drive an air conditioner? Caveat emptor!
Carrier offers boilers with efficiency ranges from 80% AFUE to 90% AFUE*. Carrier is a popular name known for air conditioners, heat pumps, and gas furnaces but Carrier offers other types of HVAC products including Carrier hot water boilers in indoor air quality products that compliment Carriers other HVAC products.
Despite the fact that the part was under warranty, the support desk blocked me from collecting my money back simply because I installed the HVAC blower motor myself. If I used one of their technicians the labor would have been more than the part, proving that they are just trying to steal from people and dont respect warranties. Carrier is a garbage company for both enterprise and consumers.
I built a new home in 2007/2008. I researched and purchased what I was lead to believe was some of finest equipment in HVAC on the market. Boy was I mislead. It was much more pricey than the standard system I was originally quoted but since I was building the home myself for retirement, I wanted the best. The heat pump I purchased was a Bryant Evolution, two stage, variable speed, model # 286-ANA-048000-CBAA, serial # 2907E28649, a 4 ton/16 seer system. Sounds cool but what a piece of junk. The system was roughed in late October 2007 with final installation/operation in late August 2008 when I finished the home.First indication of a problem was a compressor failure the end of March 2009. I was told it was a fluke and the compressor was replaced under warranty. My HVAC system does not experience heavy use or extremes as far as heat and cold because I live in western Washington State where the climate is fairly moderate. In the winter, I burn a lot of wood and the summer we rarely use the A/C. That said, it should be fair to expect even a longer life from this higher end equipment. Not So! In January 2015, I experienced another compressor failure and this is where my true frustration begins. My dealer confirmed that it was in fact another compressor failure and said this had been a much greater problem than Carrier had wished to admit. It was apparently enough of a problem that Carrier was offering a pro-rated replacement program. So my options are: (1) replace the compressor again and take my chances, (2) buy a new replacement Carrier heat pump at a discounted price (approx: $2,000.00) and hope to get a better unit. I have absolutely no problem with the pro-rated idea since I did get some years of service from the original system. The problem is, even though I am technically paying for a new unit, Carrier does not even have enough faith in their own equipment to give me a new warranty. Even if I opt to buy the new replacement unit, they will only recognize the remainder of my original warranty. Is this ridiculous or what? If they were simply replacing my unit at no cost to me, because the original unit was crap, then I would have no beef at all with this ridiculous policy. But in essence, I am paying for the new unit both with more cash and the expectation that the original higher end system that I paid a premium price for would last far longer than it did. The last standard grade heat pump I had on my previous home lasted 18 years. So, whats wrong with this picture. When my dealer gave me these options and explained this warranty, I didnt believe it. So I called Carrier customer service. After talking with a representative and then a senior representative named Diane, I was told the dealer was correct and that was all Carrier was willing to do for me. I explained to Diane that this system had failed previously in 2009 but this made no difference. This was all Carrier was willing to offer even with their higher end systems. Very sad that even they dont have enough confidence in their equipment to give a person a new warranty on new equipment. Needless to say I will no longer be using or recommend Carrier equipment to anyone, EVER. This policy and the way they stand by their products and treat their customers is simply horrible. DONT BUY CARRIER !!!!! So now I will be paying another $5,000.00 to buy a Trane and my big investment just 7 years ago is gone. One last note about some of their higher end products. My neighbor and long-time friend built a home next to me a few months after I built mine. Never guess what my recommendation was to him on HVAC for his house. Yep you got it, same junk. While he did not experience a compressor failure early on like I did, he did experience other smaller issues. However, his system failed (compressor) in the spring of 2014. His system was approximately 1 year newer than mine so his pro-rated cost to replace in April 2014 was approx: $1,500.00 instead of the $2,000.00 I was asked to pay. Ok, so good for him. He got a new replacement system (for a 5-6 year old system) for $1,500.00, AND a NEW Warranty that started from the day his new system arrived. So I would say this was good business on Carriers part by essentially continuing his HVAC experience for a pro-rated amount and giving him a new warranty on a new product. Something must have happened between April 2014 and the end of the year (probably more failures), because as I said earlier, Carrier no longer has the faith in their equipment to give a new warranty on new products. In case I forgot to say this, DONT BUY CARRIER and tell all your family, friends, and co-workers.
We have a top of the line Carrier Infinity heat pump put in place in 2014. It was installed by an authorized installer who has been installing Carrier systems for 45 years. The unit is supposed to be state of the art and cost over $10K. But in 2015, one year after it was put in place, the system broke down in the summer and a motor had to be replaced. Now in 2016, second year after the installation, the system broke down again and another motor has to be replaced. And it takes more than 10 days to order the motor in todays world when everything you order from Amazon can arrive in 2 days. When I called Carrier to file a complaint, the lady I spoke with was supposed to be a senior level rep, and she was even more disappointing. Please note, I wasnt even asking them for anything. My repairs are covered by a service policy I already had. I just wanted to let them know my frustration as a consumer, and I think given the good reputation I have heard about Carrier, you would think how their customers are feeling about their quality and service. Well, this lady blamed everything on distributors and installers, and said Carrier provides 10 year parts warranty and thats all they can do. She basically said Why are you wasting my time by calling me. without using those words.Well, for a state of the art system such as Carrier Infinity, you probably wouldnt expect to shut down for 2 weeks every year in the hottest days of the summer. And you would probably expect Carrier to care more about the quality and service experienced by their highest paying customers. I need to replace another old HVAC system soon and I never thought I would get anything other than Carrier. Now I will look into what other competing products are out there.
New installation in new home May 2015. Top of the line heat pump (25VNA048). Coil froze up with massive ice buildup in cold snap December 2016. Faulty coil sensor so unit failed to go into defrost cycle. $232 for labor as out of the 1 year period. Guessing the part cost only a few dollars. Like other postings here I had no response from Carrier. Clearly they dont care. I would not use their products again. Anyone know where the parts are made?
Wow, horrible company. Bought a unit with a 10-year compressor warranty. Compressor developed a leak. They did nothing to repair/replace unit. Swore I would never buy another carrier. Bought a new house. Builder uses carrier. Less than a year the unit is rusting and corroding on the condensing housing and aluminum coil. Guess what carrier said, we will do nothing. Need I say more?
We have 2 Carrier AC units in our home. Installed brand new on new home in 2016 and there have been over $3,000 in labor and shipping costs to repair the units. They even charged us shipping for a replacement part that was dead on arrival and we had to pay shipping costs and labor costs again for the repairman to come out again with another part. That was a little over a month ago and now the same part needs replacing again!!! Never buy this brand ever again. They’re selling junk and then charge you shipping to replace parts under warranty but you’re stuck paying the labor. They must know they are selling defective parts and systems. Why would we have needed to replace the air handler parts 3 times in 3 years?
Purchased a new home June 2010, with an 4 ton Carrier Air Conditions. I was informed that the unit came with a 10 year warranty. In 2013 the condenser went out and 2 years later the compressor has gone out. Carrier warranty department is stating the warranty was only for 5 year. This was not the information given at the time of purchase. Now Im left with buying a new system. What a ripoff.
We have a Carrier furnace and a/c. It is currently 25 yrs old. It just needs a tune up every year. It runs well and is dependable. We are holding out as long as possible to replace it. It is unfortunate that machines don’t last like they used to. Fingers crossed we can maintain ours for a few more years.
I just opened this website and noted that most of the Carrier reviews were terrible. This is a more advanced system than most HVAC repair companies have knowledge of or experience with. We had a bad experience a couple of summers ago (the a/c was not cooling) and it all came down to the one question I failed to ask the 2 repair companies that were sent to our home by our home warranty company: Does your company INSTALL Carrier systems? Well, (after the 2 companies had spent countless hours and replaced the evaporator coil--which did not make the problem go away), that one little question did the trick! The warranty found one company that actually had installed these systems and they came out and after an hour of hooking up the compressor to the techs computer and consulting with the engineers in Houston, the problem was identified. They replaced the compressor and that was that. We love it. The comfort it brings to our home and the money it saves with the highest efficiency system... We only wish we would have gotten a zoned system. I would recommend Carrier---but you have to get the right people to be your service technicians, preferably the company that installed it...and just take really good care of the system--do all your check-ups regularly. It is not inexpensive to purchase, so why would you just hire anyone to service it?
Three top of the line Carrier units installed in the fall of 2006 has 100% rust and mold in all the copper evaporator coils inside the 3 air handlers. It has undergone consistent maintenance and service in the spring and fall every year. I contacted Carrier with the problem and they refused any assistance because the 5 year warranty has expired on the component, even though the local Carrier dealer who installed and serviced the units confirmed it is a manufacturing problem. The 3 unit models are: FV4BNF002, serial # 1606A82006; FV4BNF005, serial # 1106A87390; and FV4BNF005, serial # 4805A85599.If anyone reading this review is planning on installing a Carrier unit, please think twice and also read the 80+ other similar complaints. Also, please pass the word around so that others will not have to go through similar experience. The builder convinced us to install these Carrier units when we were considering another leading HVAC brand known for its excellent customer service and product reliability.
I bought the 5 ton Carrier Infinity HNA26 indoor and outdoor unit heat pump system in 2007. My money was good; my purchase was not. Ducting was made to spec for the Carrier heat pump compressor in a new home heating some 3500 sq feet. 4 years later, 2011, the original compressor packed it in, a new compressor was installed costing me some $2000.00 more - labour and refrigerant. There were also numerous service calls prior, with among others the replacement of a honking reversing valve. Now in 2015 the 2011 replacement compressor has packed it in - another 4 years. Two (2) compressors shot! Junk! I phoned another heat pump outfit and they will install a comparable American Standard for some $12,500.00 here in British Columbia, Canada. That is a boat load of money to replace a Carrier unit that should have lasted some 15 or so more years. There should be a class action suit against Carrier for this!
We purchased a carrier system in Nov. 2019, it had a condenser leak in Dec.2020, four days later the compressor stopped working. Total labor for both jobs was $2500.00 dollars. Carrier’s customer service denied payment for all or part of the labor. The exact statement in the e-Mail from Mr. Lee ** was “Carrier only pays for excessive or expensive labor cost”. David L Gitlin Dave President/CEO, Carrier Global Corp stated in on the company’s website “we want to do what is right”.
Carrier Comfort 80 gas furnace blower motor & cage failure- The blower motor and blower squirrel cage have both recently failed on this 9-year-old unit. Preventive maintenance twice yearly has been consistently scheduled. Warranty was for 5 years for all parts except heat exchanger (10 years). Cost to replace both of these items was $960 less my 15% discount for being a preferred customer. VERY HIGH PRICES! The tech volunteered that Carriers prices on replacement parts is high. I found the same parts on other HVAC supplier websites for much less - I was initially not comfortable with handling the parts change out, but now seeing how it was done, could probably have done it myself & saved a bunch of $. I contacted Carrier, but got no response from them. Had asked for some $ warranty assistance since these parts failed prior to 10 years of service - my tech said that after 2010, Carrier increased their warranty to 10 years on other parts. This is the first time I have had any blower failures on a furnace earlier than 20 years of service. Apparently they just dont make em like they used to and Carrier doesnt really care about their residential consumer customers either. I wont be replacing any of this equipment (when the time comes) with Carrier!
I purchased a Carrier Infinity 2 ton heat pump on 08/16/2010. Two years and one month, it needed its motor replaced. That was done in September 2012 with me footing the labor. Now on February 12, 2013, the control board on the same unit needs to be replaced. This unit cools our bonus room upstairs and is set to cool at 80 and heat at 62, so it is not used a lot. Again, I have to pay labor to have it fixed. I am really upset to have a 2-year-old unit go bad. By the way, the heat strips set off my fire alarm after the initial install, the first time the heat pump came on. I paid lots of money for this unit and another 5 ton Infinity. I would be willing to join the class action since this is a lemon.
Carrier bought in 2006 has had over 18 service calls on heat pump. Never once fixed more than 3-4 months. Now has a coil leak in heat pump. $6640.00 quoted for new unit. $3700.00 quoted to replace coil. Never buy Carrier again. Carrier customer service could not care less. Out of warranty.
When the President moved to save Carrier jobs, I initially was pleased, as Carrier was the HVAC that came with our home. That system worked fine for 22-plus years and was not new when we moved in. Last year we finally had to replace it and went with Carrier based on past performance. What a HUGE MISTAKE! Its had one heating repair and now we are in the process of a second cooling repair and its brand new. Since the install, our energy bills consistently have been higher than most of our neighbors. When the heat kicks on, it sounds as if a dragon lives in our basement, making the former home office down there unusable. Apparently the old systems had some sort of inner shield that reduced such noise. Why would Carrier have removed this?? The tech says the culprit for our cooling woes is an expansion valve which tends to stick. Apparently many consumers have this problem with the new Carrier units. The lines were flushed a few weeks ago to try and correct this valve issue. Here it is, just a few weeks later, and the SAME PROBLEM occurs. While waiting for the repair tech, weve suffered in a hot house and have water from frozen and leaking pipes damaging the newly-painted basement floor. Carrier apparently does not like to send replacement parts until the techs jump through many hoops. I thought Id researched brands, but I guess I was basing my decision on Carriers old reputation. Now we are stuck with an expensive new system that is faulty. It does not cool or heat our home as well as the old Carrier system, and now Im told by several techs that we should have gone with a Goodman. This is unacceptable. Carrier needs to fix its issues and replace those defective parts at no cost to the consumer and stop using delay tactics to get parts that work to the techs in a timely manner. Better yet -- build the system correctly the first time!
I purchased my home brand new. The very 1st year had problems with HVAC unit all told every year for the past 7 yrs Ive owned this home I have had to have repairs done to unit. Why is there no accountability from the company for such poor work.
New 2 stage system - Ive had this air conditioner for 8 years and had 3 compressors put in. This last one I had installed on the Wed. after Memorial Day. It still has not cooled the house since it was installed and never turns off. In the day time, it will get to 80 degrees. At night, around 3:00 am, it will cool off to 70 degrees. Ive called my installer and told him about it and he says he has to call the Carrier guru to find out what to do. It is now June 20th and every day about 3:00 to 4:00 pm, it will be 77 to 80 degrees in my house. I want it fixed NOW!!!! Ive never had a problem cooling the house before the installer says I should build a shade house over the outside unit. He put it there. Even the other compressors were able to cool my house, 1600 sq. ft, with a 4-ton unit.
Carrier Heat pump compressor problem; repaired 3x, still does not work. They said I can have a new heat pump for 1600 dollars. I dont think I should pay when I bought the top of their line just 7 years ago.
We purchased a Carrier Infinity Series Model # 25HNA64A8003 in 2008 when we built a new house. We bought the most efficient unit with a 10 year warranty. We had always had a TRANE but went with a local company that promised we would be satisfied. In December 2010, we started having trouble. December 2010 we replaced the first compressor. January 2011, August 2011, October 2011, October 2011. We went through 3 compressors which our dealer failed to point out. After two, we hired another repair company and at this point we knew we were on number three. By this time, it is Labor Day 2013.He replaced the third compressor in September 2013 and found out that Carrier knew of the problems. Our local company, Simmons Heating and Air would not do anything about it either. December 2013 and now it is the capacitor and start cap relay. We tried to work out a solution with Carrier and our local Simmons Heating and Air. We decided to spend another $1400.00 to have the unit replaced in 2013. We now have Model Number 25HNB648A003. It is Labor Day, 2014 and we are sitting in 100 degree weather in North Carolina. The repairman showed up today and said it is now the blower in the air handler, which has a 5 year warranty which is now not covered. The repairman from Simmons said it is a very expensive part. So we are now past $16,000.00 after only six years of owning the unit. If I could afford it I would send the Carrier back to the company and have a new TRANE unit installed. ALL I CAN SAY IS RUN. DO NOT THINK TWICE... DO NOT INSTALL A CARRIER SYSTEM.
Horrible gas furnace! Bought brand new in 2011 and every winter we have had problems. Now it’s shot! Big regret! Financial wrecked! This furnace was suppose to be top of the line. The heating elements went out and the burners! They will not work with you or budge! Minnesota winter is brutal and for this to go out on us every winter is horrible
Im a homeowner and had two units installed in the two story house I completed in 2012. Its been 1 year and 3 months and Ive had 3 a/c outages. My upstairs unit (3-ton) has been out twice, most recently when the compressor blower motor stopped working. My latest problem is with the downstairs unit (2.5-ton) which needs a new evaporator unit. There is a leak in the copper coil which Im told is common. Most startling to me, however, was how corroded the entire evaporator unit appeared. I took a photo and posted here. The prevailing story I hear from the repair folks is that Carriers technology got way ahead of quality... in an effort to meet the rising efficiency requirements. The parts warranty is helpful, but the labor combined for all three repairs is now at $2000. Oh yeah, and I called Carrier (as a homeowner) to express my dissatisfaction. They towed the line on warranty terms and conditions and wouldnt transfer me to a Manager. Given my experience, I will never purchase Carrier equipment again.
I bought (3) 2 ton heat pumps for my home, the Carrier Infinity Systems. Compressors have had to be replaced, thermostats have to be replaced, units are just horrible, noisy. I have nothing good to say, I thought I was buying a Rolls Royce got a rambler.
I have issues with Carrier Canada warranty. I have carrier furnace. The heat exchanger is broken and the furnace still under warranty. I called carrier. They give me dealers phone numbers. I called and they told me they cant fix. I have to go for new furnace. That happened with 3 different carrier dealers. I called carrier customer service 3 times. They told me that they will forward my case to the management and the management will call me. Now its 2 week no call. Now I have to buy a new furnace which will cost me $ 4520.
On October 24, 2014, I had a new Carrier air conditioner installed. Unfortunately, the product has not performed well and to our expectations. As of May, 2015 the unit was making an unusual loud noise, although the technician was not able to find anything wrong. In August, 2016 the unit was making a loud noise again. This time we also noticed water leaking and that the unit will successively go on and off. The technician determined that the units expansion valve was faulty. In August 2016 the repair was completed. While the parts were covered under the warranty, we incurred expenses for the labor in amount of $375.00. In addition to the expense incurred and the hindrance of not having AC in 100 degrees weather, we had to twice take time off from our jobs, once to have the unit inspected and a second time to have the repairs done, which took nearly 5 hours to complete. We were disappointed to say the least and find it unacceptable that a new unit that has been in use for less than 2 years, to have such issues. To resolve the problem, we contacted Carrier and kindly requested a full reimbursement of the $375.00 cost we incurred. Per our online research, this issue has happened to other Carrier users and we deem this to be a flaw in the manufacturing of the system, and not normal wear and tear. The response back was that, while they are sorry for the inconvenience created by their system, they cant help us as they are not responsible for the labor cost we incurred! After we spent close to $7k on a new unit, I find it unacceptable to have to spend another $400 in the second year on repairs!
Building our home in 2012, we selected a Carrier heat pump because of its efficiency and alleged reliability. Little more than 2 years later, were now suffering through almost $400 labor costs to repair our relatively young Carrier heat pump because the outdoor fan bearings failed and the fan motor must be replaced. When I asked Carrier for credit against these $400 labor costs, Nicole stated shes bound by the manufacturers warranty so she cannot pay for labor on a part that admittedly failed way too soon. Careful of putting too much trust in the Carrier reliability. Theyre not willing to do whats right for the customer.
I purchased my unit in 2007 and thru the company I bought it from, have a 15 yr parts and labor warranty. I have the Infinity thermostat and 3 ton unit heat pump and Infinity air handler. Ran okay for the first year or so but fast forward to today... Heres a rundown of the repairs on this unit. Ive had 7+ system malfunctions, many of them with multiple codes. The primary code is always 45. Ive had the air handler circuit board replaced 3 times - 3/2009 12/,2011, 9/2014 and a 4th one effective today due to the total shut down (8/2015) of entire system. Ive had the heat pump circuit board replaced also 9/2014, coils replaced 2/2014, and new wiring harness 10/2014. Ive been told that Carrier will eventually stop warranting the circuit boards. As everyone else, someone needs to be home when this service is done so taking time from work to be home for every repair can be very tough and expensive for someone whose company doesnt allow them or cant have them work from home. Im fortunate but in the long run Carrier should be doing something to recognize the problems their system has and make it right. My service company is great but eventually this will start to get very costly. Im done with Carrier and will be contacting the company I purchased it from regarding the lemon law. This just cant go on...
We purchased ours give or take 8 years ago. It was best deal in our price range and for size wise in comparison to the square footage of our home. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to purchase or replace their existing one.
We built a new home with Schalmo Builders (Canal Fulton, OH) three years ago. We trusted their expertise in selecting a quality, reliable HVAC system for us. They chose a Carrier unit, and it’s been nothing but constant problems, breakdowns, costly service calls (with no resolution), run-around answers, fights & battles, hot summers with NO AIR, and winters with unbelievable heating bills due to our Carrier unit’s inability to properly switch from standard heat to very expensive “emergency heat.” Our condenser was replaced after less than one year. We’ve had more than a dozen service calls on the unit during the past three years. We are currently waiting for a replacement blower motor that has been on order for weeks now and is not due to arrive until mid October. We’ve been without air the entire summer (2019) due to our unit constantly blowing fuses. We’ve paid $600 in labor to replace all different kinds of Carrier parts that did not fix the issue. We have a parts warranty which is a joke because of expensive labor costs to fix a unit that is only three years old. Our builder will not admit that they gave us a terrible HVAC unit that we will most likely need to replace, saying their hands are tied. That’s reputable. BUYER BEWARE of complete junk Carrier units!
I purchased a new Carrier Furnace Model #9200 in 1990-1991 and have had problems ever since. The furnace leaks water on the floor, shuts off by itself, had it serviced many times, the air conditioner has a leak, the heat quits and has to be reset, problems after problems.....I will never get another unless they replace it. I have all the service reports from my service man.
I bought my heating and air conditioner on 7/18/16. On 6/24/18, the compressor stopped working and the tech found that the plug and compressor had melted. Although the compressor was covered, my bill was $734. The $4070 Carrier unit did not even work for two years. I think since it was Carriers fault their unit was at fault that they should have been responsible for the bill since the compressor has a warranty for ten years and didnt even last for two years. They should have at least been responsible for the freon that the unit lost because of their inferior product. I will never buy another Carrier product!
I installed a 5-HP air-conditioning unit through an authorized Carrier distributor and the a/c does not work from day one of usage. After many complaints and after almost 30 days of waiting, they decided to replace the fan. They took it out, but after almost waiting for another one week, they came and said that they will fix it. I asked them to replace it as they promised from the beginning - in addition as to why the customer should accept malfunction from a brand new equipment. Then, they started this repairing trip from day one - very bad, slow response and support from Carrier and their distributor.
After a routine check of our vacation home HVAC systems, we were told we should consider replacing the aged units, although they still worked. We decided to spend the $17,000 for two units and set up an install time when we would be there. Install: Day 1 (a Friday): Were told we couldnt use our Nest thermostats. Installers opened crates to find one of the outdoor units had a large dent, but told us the panel would be ordered, and that no internal damage was done.Installers were there until 10:30pm, and said that it wasnt working correctly. They said they would come back Monday.Install: Day 4 (Monday): Installer tried again but couldnt get things going. Said he spent 2 hours on phone with Carrier support. He said part needed and hed return next day. That night we found water dripping in our closet due to drain pan under attic air handler overflowing. Drain pipe not working and float cutoff switch not working. Called night number and were told it would be 10pm, so we said come first thing in the morning Tuesday. Install: Day 5 (Tuesday) Installer came at 3pm. Said part not arrived yet, but got drain pan working. Install: Day 6 (Wednesday) Got call from dealer service department wanting to know what day the next week they could install part. I said that was unacceptable because we would not be here. After 2 calls they agree to send someone next day first thing. Install: Day 7 (Thursday) Installer came at 10am, and after what he said were hours on the phone with Carrier support they were going to install new units. The only ones available were smaller but would be fine. (Im wondering why they recommended the larger, more expensive ones in the first place.)Install: Day 8 (Friday) Installer arrives at 1pm with new units. As I write this they are installing the new units, so I decided to download the Infinity app and get ready for remote access that weve enjoyed for years with Nest. I got the app downloaded and started to register. My screen (mobile and computer) says Carrier server is down, try later. I called support and they said server has been down 11 days, and they do not have an estimated time for it to be operational. Support is open Monday-Friday, so I asked them if I must be at the thermostat to connect it to my phone. They confirm that, so because I must leave Sunday to go home I will not be able to setup remote access. I will not be able to remotely see what the temp is so I wont know if the units are working. If they dont at least get the units working correctly today I plan to have them removed and replaced with Trane units. Please notice that I have attempted to be factual and not be emotional or let my anger, frustration, and home temperature (its over 90 degrees again today) show through. I only write this to let prospective buyers know to think twice before selecting Carrier.
Iceman only diagnoses AC problems that are not covered under warranty and then attempts to charge enormous fees to get problem fixed. AC unit is less than 10 years old and per Iceman I have had 4 leaks, needed 3 evaporator coils and possible condenser coils all of which is not covered under the warranty. Carrier says nothing they can do, I have the contract with Iceman and have to use them. If I want to try to find another Carrier Dealer to honor my extended warranty I can try. No AC unit should need an evaporator coil every 2 years and continue to leak for 8 years straight. I need a new thermostat and cant get one because Iceman cant diagnose the correct problem because the thermostat is under warranty and I can only get a new thermostat from a Carrier Dealer and Iceman wont get me one.
Lake Lure NC. After two years turned on A/C for recently completed bonus room for future retirement house. Unit started short cycling. Two tech visits later condenser coil found to have two or more leaks. Contact with Carrier customer service and they admit product defect and hide behind one year labor warranty. They are sorry I am dissatisfied. I own four Toyotas because they stand behind their product. Last Carrier product I will own. I called by HVAC contractor in Fl and he is replacing my failing unit with Rheem. Sorry Carrier, customer service doesnt take an Einstein.
I bought a new Carrier Performance model air conditioner in 7/09. 3 years later, supposedly the evaporator coil is possibly leaking refrigerant (410a) as the unit is barely cooling. The estimated cost to replace the coil (coil still under 5-year part warranty) for labor is $993 (includes the cost of 8lbs of Puron) and an additional $150-$400 to do a leak search. I am looking at approximately $1200+ for labor to repair. For a fairly expensive outlay for a piece of equipment and only lasting 3 years, this doesnt sit too well with me. After reading all the following complaints about Carrier and their evap coils, you wonder, where is their engineering on these coils? Possibly thicker copper tubing might help with the increase in operating pressures with Puron? Where is their quality control? Where is their concern for their customer base? If you keep making an inferior product (or is this planned obsolescence?), maybe Carrier needs to take lessons from Japan on making good products. My previous Payne A/C lasted approximately 35 years with only approximately 3 service calls. Needless to say, I am a very dissatisfied customer with this product. In fact, I am thinking on having this unit pulled out and buying another brand and take my loss as I have no confidence that another evap coil replacement will not fail in the future.
Have had system 17 yrs. The furnace would not run when installed, for first winter, many calls to installer. Charged us for all calls! This furnace has been totally undependable, with many repairs. Bishops in Muskegon MI sold and installed. Carrier should of known the problems with this new 2 stage! They never offered us anything. We must now replace this or continue throwing money at it. For the last 7 years we have to restart furnace at least daily, sand igniter monthly, etc. now the blower motor burnt out. We need dependable, and Carrier is not that. Do not recommend Carrier unless you want to keep replacing parts for overpriced prices.
April 2008 installed high end Carrier dual (electrical/gas) system (furnace/heat pump/AC) system with Carrier Infinity Thermostat. The thermostat failed July 2013; replacement around $1100 (with maintenance plan discount). Gathered from technicians comments that problems with the Infinity device are not uncommon. For the cost of same, high quality should be expected. Perhaps unwise then for potentially purchasers to tie themselves into Carrier products that require such an expensive and fragile/poorly design controller.
Carrier at Home. Im a 100% disabled veteran and a senior citizen. A faulty heat exchanger resulted in a mandatory disconnection and no heat for 5 days. Carrier Corporate validated my warranty: replace and install part or discount on new furnace. Dealer said 3-day minimum wait if part available to ship over weekend. We opted for a new furnace as 5 days without heat was enough. Carrier found a warranty loophole: You didnt ask our permission first before you took the discount option. Discount denied. Carrier: Our core values define who we are and guide every decision we make.
My Carrier air conditioning unit is less than 12 years old. The compressor has failed and seized. I understand the industry average should be 15 to 20 years or more of life. I paid a premium for my Carrier unit when I bought it. I contacted Carrier and they said it was out of warranty and basically its my hard luck. Based on my experience if you want an air conditioner to last longer than 11 years 10 months, dont buy a Carrier unit. I live in Chicago. I wonder how long this unit would have lasted in Texas.
I have had a Carrier Infinity system for 10 years. Within 3 years the compressor went out. A few years later we had a freeze and the heat pump turned on the outside unit breaking the fan. Carrier refused to cover. A year ago the compressor went out again. Carrier was willing to cover the compressor under a 10 year warranty, but not labor. My contract stated parts and labor. They later, after much negotiation, agreed to replace the condenser (including compressor) for $2500 and would extend a new warranty for 10 years parts and labor. Now the unit dies and its a circuit board. After replacing the unit would not come on again. It took 7 hours on the phone between the tech and Carrier to get it running again. Carrier support was reading a manual to help the tech figure out the problem. Their service even to a technician is a joke. I will never own another Carrier.
Six years ago purchased from Sears a new Carrier Infinity which cost $8,000.00. I thought that buying the supposed best system in the market & from a company like Sears I was making a wise decision. This was my first mistake. Yesterday March 15, just few month short on the six birthday of my very expensive Carrier & after expending the last 4 month $1,300 on repairs, I finally decided to end my nightmare & install a regular air conditioner, no frills just cool air.If you have a lot of money to throw away then buy a Carrier Infinity. If you want to be happy & save money on the long run please dont even think on buying a Carrier Infinity. The company who installed my new air, they told me that they see exactly what happened to me very very often. Look around & you will see Im not alone.
My 4-ton 14-seer Sentry compressor exploded & blew the terminal cap off damaging the wire harness. We closed on the home just over 1 year earlier (new construction from Savvy Homes). Even though the parts were covered under warranty (numerous failures have been reported with the LG compressor), Carrier refused to replace or even assist with labor cost. Imagine getting hit with a $2200 repair bill on an HVAC unit that was just over 1 year old. Terrible, terrible customer service.
Two-year-old system does not remove humidity from our home despite four service calls and a compressor replacement. The condensing unit never drains water and the Carrier dealer who installed the unit says all is okay/normal. As a result the humidity level in the house is always high, sometimes more than it is inside. Only two adults live in the home and the bathrooms/laundry room are well vented/exhausted. Does not appear from what I read that Carrier cares. Can the problem be linked to the refrigerant no longer being Freon? I have placed a portable dehumidifer upstairs which helps some and removes several quarts of water daily. We live in high humidity Indiana. Suggestions?
I had complaint Carrier for my split ac (1.5ton), this is my fourth complaint for your product. Last complaint was lodged for NOISE OCCUR IN SWING FLAP. Which was done by your engineer Mr. ** who had broken the swing flap and on the same day, when I switch on my air conditioner the swinging flap is not moving, and on the next day I again complain your carrier, then again Mr. ** come from your side as an engineer and said that it is broken by you, and you have to pay for this. Tell me why should I try to repair the air conditioner and why should I touch when you are providing services for your product, when the product is under warrantyor why should I touch I am not a technician of air conditioner. This part was totally checked and repaired by your employee and now today he is saying that you have broken the part and you have to pay for that.
Being a dedicated Carrier dealer, technician and installer for over 20 years in SE Texas, I am sympathetic to all of the unhappy customers who have written reviews. However, just from reading the situations, I believe that the problem lies not in the equipment but in the so called installers and service techs. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of reputable Carrier dealers in any given state. I have personally went behind some of these service companies and have seen the type of installation or service that was performed. To a Factory trained technician, the remedies are often relatively easy and inexpensive to repair. The fault lies not in Carrier equipment, but in the local distributors who willingly sell Carrier equipment to any Jack leg moron who knows how to operate a thermostat. Carrier should monitor their distributorships more closely and see what companies are buying equipment and how many of these are having issues with Carrier junk. Carrier is and will remain a world leader in the HVAC industry, but like everything else, the product is only as good as the person installing or servicing it. Look really closely at your contractor before you blame Carrier. There is not one manufacturer out there who is going to cover a bad install under ANY kind of warranty.
Purchased CARRIER ocean environment, 17.5 SEER Heat Pumps and air handlers for new home. During annual maintenance of my 4 systems, it was determined that one subject unit had leaked all refrigerant. Had to refill at a cost of $550. Maintenance company ordered a new coil under warranty. It took 5 weeks to deliver. Another $500 of refrigerant and $700 in labor was required to make the repair. CARRIER had a known problem with the coils. The lack of stock and the long fulfillment time are logically related. Several false ship promises further belie this contention. Carrier should have made me whole for all expenses. They did not exhibiting lack of concern for the customer and their brand.
I have several Carrier and Payne HVAC systems in several houses. I had 2 very simple technical questions regarding their thermostat. (Can the unit humidifier be set to greater than 45? and Where is the humidity sensor?) Called Customer Service looking for Tech Support line... no tech support line, they know nothing, suggested I call local Carrier dealers, i.e. local contractors. I did, they had no idea why Carrier would refer me to them. They dont offer tech support (as they shouldnt). I called back Carrier, went to Level 2 customer service... same BS, unbelievable... no more Carrier products.
Just over ten years ago, we built a new home in Pennsylvania and decided on a Carrier heat pump because of anticipated quality and longevity. The outdoor unit is a 38YDB using a Bristol compressor. The compressor recently failed after 10 years and 6 months. Through our HVAC repair company, we knew that Carrier has had problems with the Bristol compressors (which are no longer used) and our repair company should know since they have been a dealer for almost 30 years.I contacted Carrier customer service and customer relations personnel by telephone and I made them aware (although they didnt acknowledge) of the companys compressor problems. I asked two questions : 1) would Carrier provide some satisfaction to our situation with regard to how close to the warranty the failure occurred? and 2) if we should choose to purchase a new Carrier unit, would the company provide any type of recompense toward the cost of the new unit? Carrier provided nothing in response to my inquiries. Essentially, No, were not going to provide any measure of customer relief or satisfaction and with the tone of, nor do we really care if you take your business elsewhere. This I will certainly do!
I have a Carrier infinity 3-ton variable speed unit that is less than 2-year-old. The unit sweats when the air conditioner is running and is causing massive mildew/mold within the closet the downstairs unit is located. The Rep from New Orleans has been twice and said unit is working fine and closet needs insulated better. Had another HVAC come look and he said the unit should not sweat like this at all and the temp in closet was 73 degrees so no huge temp difference. I live in MS and temp and humidity are extremely high right now. Has anyone had these issues?
I am an a/c contractor in Florida. I have installed a lot of carrier/Bryant systems and I have had no problems. I also installed Trane, Maytag, Gibson, Frigidaire, Westinghouse, Goodman, Amana, Nordine. I had so many problems with these units it almost ran me out of business. I am still doing warranty work on them and I stopped installing them two years ago. If you are having the types of problems Im reading about here with carrier you should change your contractor because I have no problems and have installed hundreds of these systems. If you are looking for a great system, buy carrier but make sure you also pay for a great contractor thats just as important.
June 2003: We had a weather maker 9300TS furnace/air conditioning unit installed in our home. The previous furnace had been in the home for nearly 30 years and still running strong.Since we had this product installed, we have had to have it serviced every year. They have replaced the circuit board, switches, coils, re-worked the lines and yet again, with the temperature at 25 degrees, it has gone out again. At the time we thought we were getting a quality product, but now we realize that this product is not worth the contract we signed when we purchased it. Very disappointing to pay that kind of money for a product that does not work. The installers have came out each time and performed a quick fix instead of addressing the obvious issue, which is apparently a faulty product. I would never recommend a carrier product to another. As far as the duct work being under-sized, which I have heard some refer to when this product was installed we had duct work installed, also, its the product itself. Very disappointed, never again.
Ac is ok. Heating is good after a few years. Its quality declines after about 5 years. If could I probably get a stronger a/c heating unit. I think it’s a rating of about 5 out of ten. I could be a better unit if they would lower the price and increase the square footage it covers I think.
