Bryant furnace installed in 2007 by certified installer and looked great. A couple of months back I noticed the plenum was bent and distorted with the seams opened up. Have had three authorized service technicians tell me they have never seen this occur before but deny any furnace malfunction. Bryant customer relations directs me to contact the Better Business Bureau to complain...really? I have been told my concrete floor heaved, my floor joists dropped, or the installer caused the damage. Unit looked fine when installed but it has lifted about 4 inches and destroyed the plenum. Anyone else ever seen something like this?
Horrible gas furnace! Bought brand new in 2011 and every winter we have had problems. Now it’s shot! Big regret! Financial wrecked! This furnace was suppose to be top of the line. The heating elements went out and the burners! They will not work with you or budge! Minnesota winter is brutal and for this to go out on us every winter is horrible
I purchased a new home and the day I moved in, the unit was not working. I have a 1 year warranty. The licensed contractor comes out often to either tell me the unit is frozen, needs to be charged or coil needs replacing because of an expansion valve has malfunctioned. Even when a/c unit is supposedly fixed, it does not cool the home properly. It takes at least 4-5 hours to drop 2 degrees. The a/c unit runs constantly and is very inefficient. HVAC unit is a 13 Seer, 2 1/2 ton unit and Im in a 2 story, 2,100+ square foot home. I have been in my home less than 3 months, and the 3rd coil is getting ready to be replaced. This is the 10th service call. This is the first Carrier HVAC unit Ive ever owned and will be the last one.
We recently installed a Carrier split type inverter gold series air conditioner and we did not regret anything about it. Yes, it cost us more than buying a regular window type air conditioner but because this Carrier split type has the inverter technology, it is more energy efficient therefore lower electric bills for us. It also cools the room faster and it is very quiet. You dont even know its already on because it doesnt create one sound. It also comes with a remote control that is very easy to use. And true enough, weve noticed that our electric bills have become lower the past few months that weve started using this Carrier split type air conditioner.
I purchased from CARRIER a 3 ton, 2 speed heat pump and Infinity 2 stage, variable speed gas furnace in May 2005. In 2012 I had to replace the capacitor and compressor. The compressor was under warranty, but still cost me $568. In September 2016 I had to replace the evaporator coil to the tune of $975. Now I am told that the compressor needs to be replaced. The compressor is less than 5 years old! I called Carrier to voice my concerns and was transferred to the next level of customer service. Stephanie #** was rude. DO NOT BUY CARRIER PRODUCTS!
Two homes, one with Trane the other with Carrier. Carrier failed after 8 years and the company would not back up their warranty. Trane still running on its 15th years after a $500 repair on the control board. I am shopping for a new heat pump and I will never buy another Carrier.
Puron Model 24APA530A300 Coil bad - A/C stopped cooling on hottest day of year, and my a/c guy said it must be a bad coil. The unit was put in 6 years ago, and I figured Carrier would replace it. Just found out it has only a 5-year warranty, but starting in 2010 they made it a 10-year warranty. I think it is plain wrong that Carrier only has a 5-year warranty for a machine that costs upwards $6000. No way a coil should go out in 6 years.
I had three Carrier units (top of the line) installed for our new home. Every year since, we have had numerous problems and service calls. Now, it has become unbearable. Last Friday, our air conditioning went out. It is now Tuesday and there has been no resolution or help from Carriers online or phone center. We replaced the air handling unit ($900) two weeks ago. Now, the compressor is bad in our main unit. We called the company that installed the units and they showed up and found that it was the compressor. When they submitted the information on the warranty, they found that Carrier knows that the units are bad and has a program to replace the compressor with a different brand. So, the guys filled out all of the paperwork (Bristol Program Audit Form) and run the diagnostic tests to prove to Carrier that it is the compressor. There was a long list of serial numbers and models included in this list (I call a recall list). Upon returning the information to the Columbia, SC representative to get authorization for the part, they are told that since they are now not a certified Carrier service center, that they are unable to do the repairs. So we have had to start the process all over again. The service technician seems baffled since they let him do one less than two weeks ago, with the same faulty product.Additionally, the service company is not sure that the new $900 air handler with be compatible with the new compressor, if we ever get one. The temperature inside of our home is 84 degrees and it is supposed to reach 100 degrees by Friday. Since I have three of these units, I am concerned about the future of the units and the failure of Carrier to be proactive in replacing the compressors that they know have been faulty. Again, calling the 1-800- CARRIER number just led me to someone telling me that it is my home and my problem to handle and that the problems with the compressors are very limited. However, it must not be very limited to have a written protocol for the diagnosis of the problems and the units affected.
Unfortunately, we were unaware of the horrible reviews and lack of customer service with Carrier. We have a brand new furnace, 6 months, and has been serviced 8 times in 6 months with 4 days without heat in the midwest. If this helps anyone else, do not buy a Carrier. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, DOES NOT BACK UP THEIR PRODUCT AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE CONSUMER, ONLY JOB SECURITY FOR HEATING AND COOLING ON CARRIER FURNACES.
The Carrier/Bryant air handler for a heat pump has a plastic pan inside the unit to catch condensation. The plastic pan material is of poor quality for the environmental temperature swings that it should have been designed in which to operate. After only 2.5 years, the pan cracked in July, water soaked the air handler insulation, and caused the ductwork to drip condensation on to the attic insulation and ruin the ceiling below the unit. The secondary protection pan under the air handler caught the water that dripped from the air handler but there was no protection for the plenum and ductwork which was collecting a vast amount of moisture from the soaked air handler. This is where the ceiling damaged occurred. Florida summers are hot and humid so the unit will produce a lot of condensation and a broken pan causes a lot of damage and high repair cost.The unit was under warranty so the replacement pan is free but the labor takes 4 hours to remove the coils, replace the pan, and replace the internal insulation in the unit. The internal insulation is not covered by the warranty so that is an extra cost. So there is about $700 of labor and insulation cost to replace a pan under warranty. Plus I need to repair my ceiling where the leak occurred. I suggest that Carrier should recall these pans and replace them with pans made of higher quality material. Perhaps made with plastic that is thicker, more flexible, and can withstand extreme heat and cold temperature swings. The pan is located next to the coil so when the heat pump is operating, the pan gets hot and obviously brittle. Also units should be designed so that parts can be quickly replaced. That seems to be a lost art. I have done some research and found that Lennox has a thicker more flexible pan that doesnt crack under normal use of the A/C and heat pump operation.
Carrier Heat pump compressor problem; repaired 3x, still does not work. They said I can have a new heat pump for 1600 dollars. I dont think I should pay when I bought the top of their line just 7 years ago.
We have been in our house for 2 years and everything has been working well, both the heat and the air conditioner. The size that was recommended is perfect for the size of our house. It was installed in a good location at the side of the house about a foot above the ground on a gravel pad.
Hey Jerry in San Antonio! I have the same problem you speak of and Im also extremely angry! I tried to figure out a way to email you directly or respond directly, but I cant figure out how to respond directly so I hope you get this message.I live in nice and hot Phoenix, Arizona! On about May 30th, my air conditioner started showing signs of problems. To add to my problems, I had been pretty sick with a nasty virus that lasted for several months and the temperatures in Phoenix were extreme even for Phoenix. May 31st was 109, June 1st was 111 and June 2nd was 107. Thankfully I was able to get out of town for the weekend to not mess with these indoor temperatures. But even then it really didnt matter much because the soonest I could get a technician out to fix my unit, it wasnt until late in the week the following week.This technician told me that he was able to find a leak, but wouldnt know where. He put a leak detection in, topped my system off with refrigerant and then gave me a bill for $332.56. The A/C began to work again, but the leak was worse than we initially thought. About a week later, my A/C was back to where it was and this technician found a leak in the coil. Again, let me remind you all these problems were going on while I was also driving around town with doctor appointments and feeling sicker than I have have felt in my life and Im still not 100% better.I asked the tech how much it would be to fix the coil. I told him that in between visits, I was able to determine that my coil was under warranty but understood they didnt pay for labor. He gave me an estimate of around $2,600 and then brought it down to around $2,100, because I had a previous relationship with them for tune-ups and preventative maintenance. Even this price seemed really steep, so I told the guy I would shop around and he completely understood. Later that night, this tech called me back and told me that whether I went with him or not, the local supplier in Phoenix that provides carrier warranty parts disagreed about my warranty status. I told the tech that I spoke directly with Carrier and they told me my coil is still under warranty. He then said, Well they disagreed and I was like Ill just deal with that later.That night I sent a tweet out and found some really good A/C companies who gave me a rough quote. The one I ended up going with was an excellent company. He said that the cost of doing a warranty replacement on a coil all depends on the original installation so hed have to come out and look at my unit. So fast forward to week three of since this ordeal began and the guy comes out on a Wednesday afternoon to take a look at my coil. The tech told me that the repairs should be easy, but once again, he was still having issues with the local supplier wanting to give out the part because again, they disagreed with my unit being under warranty. I explained to him that it clearly states on Carriers website that the warranty is 5 years from installation or with new homes, its 5 days from the closing date of the original owner. Well you can imagine that many houses like mine in Phoenix were built than say for about a year or two. We moved in 10/08, which would mean that the warranty is good through 10/13. The parts dealer again disagreed with me and even my tech went the extra mile with me trying to get this figured out. By this time I was horrified. It had been weeks since the original problem, my symptoms were getting worse and it was 105 to 110+ every day and yet nothing resolved my A/C! In fact I was so sick, I asked my father-in-law from Missouri to fly out to Phoenix just to help me because I couldnt think straight and I needed rest.Later that night the tech called and explained to me he went all the way to the top to get my part approved. He said hed be coming out in the morning around 9:30. At 9:30 on the dot, my doorbell rang. He explained to me that he would take the coil out take it to the parts dealer because they need the old (which is understandable) and would be right back with my new one. At 10:30, he had the part out and told me hed be back. Several hours passed and by 3:30, I called the tech if there was any problem. He told me once again that the parts dealer was being stupid, but he finally got a part. But this part wasnt a dollar for dollar replacement. It was a different coil that would require him to rig it to fit.On this day, the temp was above average for Phoenix at 109 degrees. The poor tech worked from about 4:00PM till about 11:00PM at night trying to at least get me cool air. He was able to do it, but he still wasnt finished. He came back two days later on a Saturday and worked 4 more hours in the blazing attic and got it fixed. Needless to say, Ive never seen some individual work so hard for me. When I got the bill, I was shocked. It was for just over $1,500 instead of around the $900 I had originally expected. Now at first many people would argue that I was ripped off, but in all actuality I wasnt. I mentally figured out the hours the guy worked and realized that he undercharged me. He actually undercharged me by quite a lot. I then asked the tech why the difference in estimate and he told me the main reason it took him so long was the fact that I didnt get a dollar for dollar replacement. They said my coil was discontinued and the larger part he had to rig in would have to due. If you remember, it took him barely an hour to get the part out, but nearly 10+ hours to put it in and rig it to make it work. Now I know this guy worked hard, but making something work seems to be a temporary fix. This part wasnt designed to be in the air conditioner, let alone I would have been better off probably just buying a brand new unit than doing a warranty replacement. Anyways, I know this is a long story, but Carrier was absolutely awful when it came to handling my replacement. They were of no help when I explained to them that their parts dealer was giving me hassle. I further explained to them that I live in one of the hottest cities in the world and I was very sick, hoping that would spark some sympathy to help this get resolved faster but yet again, that didnt work. Nearly $2,000 later, I finally got my replacement (under warranty coil) replaced! Thanks Carrier, your customer service sucks! It was for just over $1,500 instead of around the $900 I had originally expected.
Building our home in 2012, we selected a Carrier heat pump because of its efficiency and alleged reliability. Little more than 2 years later, were now suffering through almost $400 labor costs to repair our relatively young Carrier heat pump because the outdoor fan bearings failed and the fan motor must be replaced. When I asked Carrier for credit against these $400 labor costs, Nicole stated shes bound by the manufacturers warranty so she cannot pay for labor on a part that admittedly failed way too soon. Careful of putting too much trust in the Carrier reliability. Theyre not willing to do whats right for the customer.
Ive been told, time and again, that HVAC units can last and should last to at least 10 years, but have the capacity to last up to 15yrs. Why is it, then, that NO Carrier HVAC unit weve had installed by local business Central Air, in Texarkana,Tx, had lasted more than 10yrs? The most recent unit was purchased, new, in 2013. Whereas I never see any neighbors have HVAC companies coming to do maintenance checks on their units, and this household has always paid to have them done... what is the deal with ours not lasting as long!! I use my HVAC very frugally, doing my best to keept the temp set at 78 in the Texas summer months, and also heater wise, I keep my home CHILLY in winter. I layer up my clothes no matter if Im dressed, or if Im in my pajamas! I layer my nightgowns wearing two of them at a time, and oft times wear my robe, and perhaps even throw on one of my athletic style jackets over it!So... I mentioned my CARRIER brand HVAC --not-- lasting?? Last year--July 2019... the compressor in my Carrier blew out!! What in tarnation! I do learn that its covered by warranty, but that does NOT mean that the additional parts required, nor the labor required, nor the refrigerant which was lost= NONE of those... ABSOLUTELY NONE of those things were covered. What in the heck---is CARRIER in cahoots with its dealer??? I was still out over $600usd per having to have the compressor replaced!! And good grief, it would have been astronomical to have had to pay for a new compressor too!! I suspect that Carrier must think, oh goodness the customer will be so relieved that we covered the cost of the new compressor, that theyll simply not be aggrieved by the output of cash still necessitated by the situation!! I am still upset to this point in time, to have had to pay for more refrigerant!! To have had to pay for the labor. To have had to pay for the extra parts ruined by the compressor blowing!! Does CARRIER --NOT use quality compressors! All I can figure is that they rely on planned obsolescence to survive! But they forget, once BITTEN, TWICE SHY!!! My future will be cooled by another brand!! I am looking into Trane, and others!! CARRIER can NOT be relied upon, per my experience, and-----per my estimation. I recently did an engine search on the Carrier brand and is stated in black and white that Carrier IS essentially UNRELIABLE! Oh, and to add the CHERRY on TOP of the HVAC SUNDAE... my capacitor broke in May of 2020!! I pitched a fit, and it wound up that the HVAC tech got permission to replace my capacitor at no cost, free of charge, to me. Darn tootin! That action, and gesture, though appreciated is no salve for the financial wound caused me, by Carriers choice of compressors they place into their units! Does CARRIER NOT comprehend that $6000USD for a HVAC UNIT is expensive enough? CAN they NOT take things A step further by building QUALITY PRODUCTS! They are perpetrating an epic fail by resting on the laurels of their good name! I donnt mind being vocal, via social media, as NECESSITATED/REQUIRED/NEEDED!! Id already expressed some displeasure via a public cheers and jeers group on Facebook, but really-- I bit my tongue, because much mreo can be said!! Listen up CARRIER!! ILL be RIDING the TRANE TRAIN, the NEXT TIME I need a NEW HVAC SYSTEM!!
Carrier refused to fix a defective evaporator coil since it was 2.5 months past the 5 year warranty. They wouldnt consider contributing the part or any cooperation. I tried to send a letter to the president since customer service was useless and the customer rep wouldnt send it forward. They were also rude and refused to even consider the fact that an evap coil should not go out on an air conditioner that is only 5 years old. Id like to know if anyone has heard of any class action suits associated with defective coils. I cant believe all the comments about defective coils in this website.
My Carrier Infinity Air Conditioner unit cost roughly $9,500 to install and was put in four years ago. My A/C stopped working because the condensing coil was leaking from the riser. This caused it to run under charged and blew the compressor. Now I need a new compressor, a new coil, a new capacitor, a new wire harness for the compressor and a new filter dryer - essentially building a new A/C unit. Carrier will cover the parts but the labor will cost $1,455 and they will not cover that cost. IF the tech agrees its a quality control issue they will see what they can do. Obviously by the number of complaints about Carriers coils, this IS a quality issue.
When the unit arrived from the factory, the plastic door latch was broken. The HVAC installer retained the broken door latch and indicated theyd try to get a replacement. That never happened. When I called Carrier for a replacement part, they indicated they do not ship parts under warranty and told me to go buy the replacement part locally. If they wont honor their warranty with a little plastic part that cost them fifty cents to make, I dont feel theyll be honoring it for large ticket items.
I have a 2005 Carrier Puron system and started having problems in 2011 which was 1 year after the warranty expired on the coils. I had to replace the coil for $1,100 which had a leak. I was told, like many others in this forum, that this is a known defect with Carrier products. I called Carrier and again, as many others have relayed, they did not care. They have a 5 year warranty. I now have the plated 10 year coil. I agree with all the other posts that Carrier is a rip-off and they have no concern for consumers and do not stand behind their products. I would never buy or recommend a Carrier to anyone. My a/c repairman told me Amana has a lifetime warranty and there are better brands that have better warranties.
Over the past 4 years I have had to replace the blower module on my heat pump 4 times. The latest module is attached to the blower motor which costs me $1400.00. Does Carrier care at all about it’s reputation and its customers or are they out to make a fast buck off of selling parts? I am a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran and simply cannot afford to replace the same part every year at a cost of $1,000.00+! Carrier needs to stand up and make their product better instead making them to fail as soon as the warranty expires.
We purchased a Carrier air conditioner and furnace through a dealer called Weather King 8 years ago. We thought Carrier was a quality company. The unit seemed to function well for a while. We live in Ohio and only use the air about 6-8 times a year, so we were surprised when the unit kept running and not cooling last fall. We contacted the dealer and paid $79 for a service call. We were told there was a loss of Freon and to schedule a visit in the spring. We did so, and were charged almost $500 more with no repair. We were told the coil was bad and told to contact Carrier.The Carrier rep was very curt and refused to help. She said that even though we registered the unit, the warranty was good for only 5 years. We have since learned from professionals that the defective Carrier coils are an industry wide problem and that a class action suit may be filed soon. We feel Carrier is deceptive in their practices and would advise readers to STOP BUYING CARRIER.
I have several Carrier and Payne HVAC systems in several houses. I had 2 very simple technical questions regarding their thermostat. (Can the unit humidifier be set to greater than 45? and Where is the humidity sensor?) Called Customer Service looking for Tech Support line... no tech support line, they know nothing, suggested I call local Carrier dealers, i.e. local contractors. I did, they had no idea why Carrier would refer me to them. They dont offer tech support (as they shouldnt). I called back Carrier, went to Level 2 customer service... same BS, unbelievable... no more Carrier products.
I have a Carrier infinity 3-ton variable speed unit that is less than 2-year-old. The unit sweats when the air conditioner is running and is causing massive mildew/mold within the closet the downstairs unit is located. The Rep from New Orleans has been twice and said unit is working fine and closet needs insulated better. Had another HVAC come look and he said the unit should not sweat like this at all and the temp in closet was 73 degrees so no huge temp difference. I live in MS and temp and humidity are extremely high right now. Has anyone had these issues?
We purchased two Carrier Infinity furnaces 6.5 years ago. Serial number 0711A033962 and 5110A03655. Cappy Heating and Air Conditioning installed them. We selected these because we believed they were the best furnaces. About five years into the life of the furnace one controller failed. Cappy replaced those. ($1000+). Now after 6.5 years the primary and secondary heat exchangers need to be replaced on both units! (My cost will be over $1,000.) We replace our air filters every 6 months so it wasnt poor airflow. It was poor workmanship. I expected Carrier to be a reputable caring company. Nope. They are covering part of the labor on the secondary but not the primary. Really! Where is the logic there? When I spoke to Diane in the Carriers claims department, she stuck with the policy. Might as well just talk to a robot. Conclusion, Carriers best furnace is of poor quality & controllers are poor quality. Nobodys perfect, however, I expected they would own up to it. Nope, support is poor quality too. Very disappointing.
Rvery time something fails it takes 2 to 5 bus days for parts. Going on 4 days waiting for condenser grill. Why does your warranty cost consumer labor. Check auto warranties, no labor. Very disappointed in Carrier system.
We bought a brand new town home in 2015 with a Carrier air conditioner that was made in 2012. After only 7 years the oil and fluid leaked out causing the unit to seize up and die. Really disappointed in the overall quality and durability of this product. Would not recommend this lemon.
I purchased the Infinity 17 Unit in 2009 with, according to my contract with the dealer, has a 10 year warranty. Recently the compressor went out and upon trying to replace it, I was told the warranty was only good if the products were registered. They (Customer Relations at Corporate Office) stated that registration for the unit was not completed. It only shows the registration for the furnace which extends that warranty from 5 years to 10 but did not show the same for the compressor.Therefore they would not honor the warranty for the compressor. I told them there must be a mistake since why would only one part of the system be registered and not the complete unit. They refused to do anything to remedy the matter. So I am stuck with a bill of several thousand dollars to repair or replace the system. Also, I had to replace the coils three years ago. I purchased this higher priced unit because it is one of their top products and the warranty. I am very disappointed with the unit and with the company response.
We purchased ours give or take 8 years ago. It was best deal in our price range and for size wise in comparison to the square footage of our home. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to purchase or replace their existing one.
I have 2 new Carrier system in a new built home and have had and continue to have several issues. I fully expected the builder and sub contractor to run for the hills but when I contacted Carrier, I did not expect them to just blow me off the way they did. I have been in the HVAC business for 30 years and never have had such poor customer support from a company. Carrier, unlike York and Trane, will apparently just sell their equipment to anyone. I thought Carrier to be one of the top 3 companies, but they sure changed that.
Just had a technician from the local Carrier Dealer inspect my inside unit. He informed me that the fan motor controller was malfunctioning and that it had to be replaced or it along with the fan motor. The unit is not yet 10 years old and this is ridiculous for it to not last any longer than this. I have already paid a couple hundred dollars for a capacitor coil that failed early this year. The local dealer discontinued installing the unit that I have due to too many failures and problems with the variable speed fans and controllers. Now I am faced with $1100 repairs not counting the labor due to a very inferior product. I would not recommend Carrier to anyone and especially the heat pump. Very weak components and will fail leaving high cost repairs and lost of use.
I had a Carrier heat pump and air handler installed in 2017 (Comfort 25HCE418.1.5 ton... w/SEER 14.5; Carrier Performance fan coil w/variable speed DC blower). I had all the scheduled maintenance and now the evaporator coil leaked and I am being told it will cost $1425 to fix just for labor! What good is having a new system if it costs this much to fix? I was told by the tech that they had to replace these evaporator coils after one year! Even with the parts covered the labor is cost prohibitive. If these systems cannot be maintained even with regular maintenance, which was also expensive, then they must be defective! My heating and cooling bills were also huge and the thermostat had constant problems - going out, or not registering the correct temperature. You would think these companies would be concerned about their reputations. You would think that the certified dealers would also be concerned about the quality of these products. You would think there was some integrity in this business.
After coming home from work on a hot, sunny, Friday afternoon, I noticed the inside of the house was MUCH hotter than what the thermostat was set for. After going outside and checking the heat pump, I noticed that the copper lines were frozen and the fan wasnt spinning. After calling the installation company, they said they wouldnt be able to be out there until Saturday afternoon (of course!). The repair technician came out Saturday around 3:00 pm and said that it was the motor and that Carrier knows these are bad motors, but they wont do anything about them until they break. They last roughly 2-2.5 years before they need replaced. I have already replaced at least 40 this year and thats just me.... I have three other partners!. Of course, he said that it wouldnt be able to be taken care of until Monday after he contacted Carrier. On Monday, he ordered the part and Tuesday around noon, he actually came and fixed it. If anyone knows what the weather is like in September in South Carolina, then you know that there were FOUR VERY UNCOMFORTABLE NIGHTS OF SLEEP (youre not getting much sleep when it is hot and humid... all a fan did was circulate the hot air). I wish that I had known about all these problems with Carrier before we built our house 2.5 years ago! I can assure you that from here on out, that for me, it will be hard to stop a Trane. I have asked two different technicians now, who they thought makes the best unit, and both unquestionably said Trane. Thanks to Carrier, I am now out $300 because of a known faulty motor (sorry to everyone else who has spent more money because I know that sounds like chump change, but I definitely would like spending that on something else). If any car manufacturer had known issues, they would put out a recall and fix the unit.... Why isnt Carrier doing the same? Unscrupulous is word that comes to mind...
In 2011 we purchased a dual fuel heat/air. By 2014 it was leaking. Replaced the evaporator, at the cost of $700 not including the Freon we had added to the system. Then by 2016 it was down. Freon again. This time condenser leaking. $200 for the Freon, another $84 to find the leak, and now 1$278 to replace the coil. We asked carrier to replace the whole heat pump as we must have a lemon and they sent info to product review, we thought they were considering helping with at least the labor costs if not a whole new unit. I called back after over 2 weeks of not hearing, and they said they would only replace the coil, because our unit is over 10 yrs old! HUH? Its been less than 5 yrs, and they said we didnt maintain it in over 10 yrs! HUH, hello carrier? 2016 from 2011 purchase date is 5 yrs. Yes, the unit is maintained but not by your service contract. No wonder All Temp Co. Heating and Air Conditioning of Harrisburg, NC sells these. They get a lot of work out of these inferior products, over and over again. Run as fast as you can and buy a Trane. Wish we had. Maybe carrier might move back from Mexico. I guess it doesnt matter where its made if they wont stand behind their product. I think after 2 major leaks we deserved more than their attitude and bad record-keeping.
I am a Mechanical Contractor in Detroit area. I have installed many Infinity Systems (We stopped selling them in 2012 because of all of the problems!). My own house I built in 2009 has three systems, has had 5 compressors replaced, 4 contractors, 3 controls and one complete condensing unit in 2015 which now does not work and my house is 81 degrees! INFINITY means as long as you have it you will have aggravation. It is junk. I live right on Long Lake Rd in Bloomfield Hills and on June 26th I will remove all Infinity equipment and replace with Trane. I will put all three furnaces and condensing units on the main road with a 12 foot banner which reads, This is the kind of junk to expect of Infinity equipment. Come by and check it out ** just east of Telegraph!!!
Wow, horrible company. Bought a unit with a 10-year compressor warranty. Compressor developed a leak. They did nothing to repair/replace unit. Swore I would never buy another carrier. Bought a new house. Builder uses carrier. Less than a year the unit is rusting and corroding on the condensing housing and aluminum coil. Guess what carrier said, we will do nothing. Need I say more?
This unit was purchased 2/10/2015, 5 years parts warranty, Model 48ES-A2406030TP. This unit was problem child soon after install, kicking into lockout mode, igniter failing to light, AC part did fine was furnace part constant trouble, numerous service calls, exhaust inducer fail, high temp sensor fails. I quit using installer because failed again in less than 10 minutes after driving out the driveway, got ahold of another service company, they found high temp sensor bad kicking off furnace before satisfying thermostat, got that repaired, next thing started periodic igniter fail or repeated attempt to light kick into lock out mode again. This would not fail when service man present, told me to wait till completely fail, find problem them, month later total fail.The service company owner came out this time, found no electricity, the junction block for wiring some screws loose likely from defective assembly, yup assembled in Mexico, Once that got locked down, ignited immediately, inducer motor quieter, blower quieter, was lacking enough electric all along. Runs like should. Point is I am out hundreds of dollars on a unit under warranty, I have contacted United Technology to see if they will reimburse for defective assembly, that is not excluded under their warranty. Submitted claim today, will see what they do about this, I will follow up with the outcome of this when I hear from them, I had previous Carrier lasted 20 plus years, cracked exchanger at 20 was still running, Why I bought another, this one with new controls been a nightmare, the faulty assembly my opinion caused all the trouble all along.
Brand new unit installed by Carrier Dealer. Installed new outside AC condenser and new inside Air Handling Unit with electric heat in 2nd floor wall pocket as a complete package. Within a month, the bracket assemblies holding the evaporator coil are rusting and there is excess water always in the drain pan. Installer blames it on the design and components of the System and why worry, parts have a 10-year warranty. When got Carrier Rep on phone he said same thing! By the way, factory doesnt cover rust and installers labor warranty only good for one year. I am stuck with subpar parts and poor installation. Shouldnt have paid in a timely manner.
I purchased Carrier 2 ton and 3.5 ton Heat pump/AC units in Feb 2018. The 3.5 ton unit failed and had to be replaced in July 2019 (15 months). As of Oct. 4, 2019 this unit now needs additional new parts. The 2 ton unit also failed in Sept. 2019 and needs major parts replaced. My HVAC contractor is working with me and told me to contact Carrier customer service. Carrier customer service has informed me that their only responsibility is the warranty for parts. The $1000`s spent for labor is my problem. Bottom line is Carrier feels that if their unit lasts 1 year they have met their obligation. I know that everyone buys heating and AC units with the expectation that it will last more than 1 year. Carrier does NOT have that same expectation -- they hope it lasts a least a year so they are off the hook. Do Not buy Carrier products - unless you want to replace them quickly.
I just opened this website and noted that most of the Carrier reviews were terrible. This is a more advanced system than most HVAC repair companies have knowledge of or experience with. We had a bad experience a couple of summers ago (the a/c was not cooling) and it all came down to the one question I failed to ask the 2 repair companies that were sent to our home by our home warranty company: Does your company INSTALL Carrier systems? Well, (after the 2 companies had spent countless hours and replaced the evaporator coil--which did not make the problem go away), that one little question did the trick! The warranty found one company that actually had installed these systems and they came out and after an hour of hooking up the compressor to the techs computer and consulting with the engineers in Houston, the problem was identified. They replaced the compressor and that was that. We love it. The comfort it brings to our home and the money it saves with the highest efficiency system... We only wish we would have gotten a zoned system. I would recommend Carrier---but you have to get the right people to be your service technicians, preferably the company that installed it...and just take really good care of the system--do all your check-ups regularly. It is not inexpensive to purchase, so why would you just hire anyone to service it?
The condenser coil is leaking from my unit that is under two years old. Now it will cost me $550.00 in labor charges to have it replaced. Customer relations told me there was nothing they could do about it that it worked fine when it left the factory. HEY CARRIER, WHAT ABOUT PRODUCING INFERIOR PRODUCTS? Dont have a carrier unit installed or you will regret it.
I installed Carrier Furnace and AC fours years ago with five years warranty. My furnace broke 2 years ago and I end up paying $900 for labor. My AC unit stop working 4 weeks ago right in the middle of summer heat. Technician came and checked it for leaks which cost me $700.00. A week ago, the AC stop working again, and the technician figured that the whole outside unit (Compressor, Condenser, and the Coils) were faulty and useless products. Although, the parts are under warranty, but I have to pay another $1200.00 for labor to replace the unit. I am very pissed about my decision to install overrated Carrier Furnace and AC units. Carrier units are useless and I dont recommend anyone to purchase anything from Carrier.
Carrier Comfort Series unit - Puron. We are extremely dissatisfied customers. $4,500 was spent on a brand new, energy efficient air conditioner. We were told from the sales man that this was the top of the line product and will save time and money. We had this new unit installed on Aug. 11, 2014 and when we went downstairs to check it on Sept. 6, 2014 because it wasnt dropping the temperature in the home sufficiently, we saw that there was water all surrounding the unit. In +30 degree weather we called the company to say we wanted it fixed and they couldnt send out a worker for a few days. When a worker came out he worked for 2 hours that night and 4 hours the next day, he spent this time cleaning up the mess that was left by the installers. He told us when he had done all that he was able to that the unit was defective and the company was aware of 20 other units that were defective this summer of the same model. Apparently the evaporator coil was faulty on it. Waiting for the sales man to call back. So far no call. Not happy.
I had experience with 3 Carrier high end systems. The first one failed (declared total loss) within 8 years after installation. It was replaced in 2010 by an other Carrier unit, along with a second unit for the other half of the house. Both new systems installed in 2010 were high efficiency systems with infinity thermostats, at a total cost of $15,000.00. Both of these units failed in the summer of 2014 with major repair bills - even though they had a 10 year warranty. The entire evaporator coil had to be replaced on the first unit at a cost of about $1000 in July 2014. The condenser fan motor failed on the second unit just today (Aug 29, 2014). The tech from central heating said that the motor is covered by warranty, but he must still charge me $60 for the visit and $200 for the labor to replace the motor. It is simply unacceptable to pay such high prices for top-of-the-line systems and get such poor reliability. I will never purchase another product from Carrier.
Our Infinity series 25 heat pump was installed in 2006 and we had a 10-year parts and labor warranty included at that time. We have the system checked twice each year and things have worked well until recently. On our last bi-annual service call (January 24 this year), the outdoor temperature sender unit was determined to be bad and was replaced at no charge. Then three days ago, we received a system malfunction notice on our indoor thermostat so I called our service company and they were slammed, so we set up an appointment for today. The tech came out, spent an hour checking the system and determined the compressor is failing causing the thermal lockout conditions which were recurring on a regular basis (it is a Bristol compressor). He called their carrier supplier while he was here, went through the problems and trouble codes with them on the phone and then received the okay to replace the unit. There will be no charge to us due to the 10-year service agreement. I told him that I had read about the problems with the Bristol compressors and he said he was aware of the problems as well. He said they had a great supplier to work with and had some problems initially but no longer have them with respect to getting warranty replacements when they properly document the issues involved and the warranty is in effect. Apollo is our contractor here in Kennewick, Washington and theyve done a good job and have the right relationships with the manufacturer and vendors to get things done.
I built a new home which we moved into in 2014. The only equipment which has failed has been my Carrier gas furnace and outside a/c unit. I have had the coil in the furnace replaced, the blower motor replaced, a leak repaired on the outside unit and once again I am without air conditioning waiting on a service call which will take 3 days. My units carry a 5 year warranty (parts only, labor was for one year I believe) which could have been extended to 10 if my units were registered (for marketing purposes I was told) within 90 days of closing on my home. With the mountain of paperwork/moving/dealing with banks/contractor I missed this deadline. I cannot say they, I wasnt handled a piece of paper at some time telling me to do so. Even though I am still in the initial warranty period, and Carrier could obtain my data for marketing purposes, they will not extend my warranty for the additional 5 years.That being said this equipment should not have failed so many times in such a short period of time. I have had no issues with any of the other appliances in my home, only my Carrier equipment. They treat their warranty like rebate cards. They know most people wont register their equipment so they can get out of the additional years of warranty. I only found out about this from a different Carrier dealer who will now be servicing my equipment. Buy something else. The equipment I have is unreliable and thus far I have not been impressed with their service. I did not have a choice as my builder had the equipment installed, when it is replaced I will stay away from Carrier.
After a routine check of our vacation home HVAC systems, we were told we should consider replacing the aged units, although they still worked. We decided to spend the $17,000 for two units and set up an install time when we would be there. Install: Day 1 (a Friday): Were told we couldnt use our Nest thermostats. Installers opened crates to find one of the outdoor units had a large dent, but told us the panel would be ordered, and that no internal damage was done.Installers were there until 10:30pm, and said that it wasnt working correctly. They said they would come back Monday.Install: Day 4 (Monday): Installer tried again but couldnt get things going. Said he spent 2 hours on phone with Carrier support. He said part needed and hed return next day. That night we found water dripping in our closet due to drain pan under attic air handler overflowing. Drain pipe not working and float cutoff switch not working. Called night number and were told it would be 10pm, so we said come first thing in the morning Tuesday. Install: Day 5 (Tuesday) Installer came at 3pm. Said part not arrived yet, but got drain pan working. Install: Day 6 (Wednesday) Got call from dealer service department wanting to know what day the next week they could install part. I said that was unacceptable because we would not be here. After 2 calls they agree to send someone next day first thing. Install: Day 7 (Thursday) Installer came at 10am, and after what he said were hours on the phone with Carrier support they were going to install new units. The only ones available were smaller but would be fine. (Im wondering why they recommended the larger, more expensive ones in the first place.)Install: Day 8 (Friday) Installer arrives at 1pm with new units. As I write this they are installing the new units, so I decided to download the Infinity app and get ready for remote access that weve enjoyed for years with Nest. I got the app downloaded and started to register. My screen (mobile and computer) says Carrier server is down, try later. I called support and they said server has been down 11 days, and they do not have an estimated time for it to be operational. Support is open Monday-Friday, so I asked them if I must be at the thermostat to connect it to my phone. They confirm that, so because I must leave Sunday to go home I will not be able to setup remote access. I will not be able to remotely see what the temp is so I wont know if the units are working.If they dont at least get the units working correctly today I plan to have them removed and replaced with Trane units. Please notice that I have attempted to be factual and not be emotional or let my anger, frustration, and home temperature (its over 90 degrees again today) show through. I only write this to let prospective buyers know to think twice before selecting Carrier.
Had a new Carrier furnace and A/C installed in August 2013. It totally worked fine until last summer. After several visits by several technicians they replaced a low pressure switch and a coil in the inside unit. Last occurred last fall. I turn the unit on the spring and no A/C. Called the company that installed it since it is still under the 5 year labor 10 year parts warranty. It required 2 lbs of Puron. They never checked for a leak but recommended I have a nitrogen test that would cost me $800.00. I asked why I have to pay for a leak test under warranty. The tech told me that it is not covered under warranty. So they will continue to put Freon in until it goes out of warranty in August then it is all on me. A wasted 9k. Never ever buy or recommend Carrier products to anyone.
I decided on a Carrier split system for heating and cooling in an older ranch with electric baseboard heat only. Best decision ever!! It's efficient and cheaper to operate than the new Ruud gas system in my old condo. The heat is so warm. It's not anything like the old heat pumps that seemed to throw cool air for heat. My old condo and my house are about the same size. Both are on slabs. My heating/cooling bills at the house are half of the condo's. What a blessing. Thank you Carrier!!
Had new Carrier air conditioner installed by Bloomington Heat and Air 7 years ago. Last year A/C failed and a hard start was added. A/C failed this week and I was informed compressor was bad. Good news, compressor covered by warranty... BAD news... labor and install is $1000. Nice. My old unit lasted 30 years. Nice progress.
Bought a state of the art Infinity series heat pump in November 2007 and yesterday December 31st 2013 was told the compressor was shot. I too have the 10 years parts & labor so a new compressor will be paid for, BUT the service tech calls me to his truck and pulls out this paper and tells me how this compressor is a huge piece of crap and there are thousands of issues with these things and his office will be in touch on spending ANOTHER $1500 or more to get another state of the art outside unit he named Green Speed... I am still waiting to hear back from my dealer. I totally understand with it being New Years Day having to wait a few days, but to spend over $5,000 in 2007 and be told, while still under warranty you need to spend $1,500 more for another outside unit is a joke...
Purchased a Carrier Infinity furnace and heat pump on 6/21/13. The compressor went bad in 10 days on July 3, 2013. Carrier replaced the unit. Less than 3 weeks later, the unit shut down. There was a loose wire on the outside unit. Twice the techs have been out to try to fix the water in the garage during the summer. Wrapped the outtake lines and flushed the line. They say it is just condensation. A few days ago, I discovered I have a steady leak under my house. They will have to contact Carrier because they are not sure of what the problem is but they think it is a bad gasket. Does anyone know if there has been a recall on this system or is there a class action lawsuit? I seriously think I have a lemon. I have not contacted Carrier yet, but will this week if the leak is not fixed.
Our 9-year-old Carrier furnace was blowing cold air. The repair guy for Carrier said we need a NEW FURNACE! If he only replaces the part, there is no guarantee it will work (up to $2,000 for repair). It s December (here in New York) and we have waited SEVEN DAYS and no part in sight! We will NEVER buy another Carrier!
My 4-ton 14-seer Sentry compressor exploded & blew the terminal cap off damaging the wire harness. We closed on the home just over 1 year earlier (new construction from Savvy Homes). Even though the parts were covered under warranty (numerous failures have been reported with the LG compressor), Carrier refused to replace or even assist with labor cost. Imagine getting hit with a $2200 repair bill on an HVAC unit that was just over 1 year old. Terrible, terrible customer service.
We purchased a new Carrier Infinity 18 SEER HE system in April 2018 ($12,300). The system was for the downstairs of a 3200 square foot home and installed in a crawlspace. At the time of installation, there had never been any moisture issues in the crawlspace for the 20 year life of the home, not with the original owners, not with two home inspections, and not with our experience with the previous HVAC system that had been in place for fifteen years, in fact the crawlspace had always been very dry. Once we installed the Carrier Infinity system, we began to notice problems with keeping the humidity levels in our home at a reasonable level, we were seeing 65-76 percent readings on a regular basis.We reached out to the Carrier dealer and they told us we needed to replace all of the ductwork underneath the house. We moved forward and did as was suggested ($4600) in August of 2019. A few weeks after the ductwork install, we switched to heat pump and thought the problem was resolved as humidity levels in the winter stayed around 45% inside the home during the winter when the heat pump was being used and there was no use of the AC. Fast forward to summer 2020. We started using the AC again in April and by July 2020 the beautiful hardwoods in our home began to buckle and we began to see incredible amounts of moisture building in our walls.Our light switches actually began to buckle from the moisture, and if you took one off the wall, the moisture was enough to drip onto the floor. We have pictures of all of this. Moisture readings were back to 68 to 78 percent and 83% in the crawlspace. Through word of mouth and social media, we found several other families who were experiencing the exact same issue in our county alone, their homes, walls, and floors also being slowly destroyed by intense moisture after installation of the Carrier Infinity 18 seer system. We were in contact with the Carrier dealer throughout. Unfortunately, the dealer had a massive fire that destroyed all of their records and they had to rebuild, so there are no records of our original install other than the paperwork we have.After their rebuild that delayed our interaction, the dealer came again to our home and rewired our system to use only two drive phases instead of the designed five. This did not bring the moisture levels down. We were told several times there was a moisture problem in our crawlspace and that was causing our issues. We worked with our homeowners insurance agent and he sent a home inspection/moisture specialist who determined there was no runoff or water issue in our crawlspace and suggested the problem may be the installation of the super efficient Carrier system in 2018. The dealer returned again in September 2020 and replaced the ductwork again, suggesting that the duct boots were not installed correctly in the first ductwork replacement in 2019.This also did not address the intense humidity issue, with readings in our crawlspace reaching 83% moisture in certain areas. Inside the home we could not maintain anything under 68% humidity. The dealer then brought a large dehumidifier in late October 2020 that has been running all winter. With the AC off, the basement has dried out with use of the heat pump and zero use of the AC all winter. We will be installing the optional integrated Carrier dehumidifier next and will see if that addresses the issue when we switch back to AC, somewhere in early April.After hearing from all the other families that have experienced the exact same intense humidity and moisture damage in their homes after installing the Carrier Infinity 18 seer system, we are not confident that we will see any difference. We are out almost $18K, we have a practically new HVAC system that is slowly destroying our home, we will need to replace all of our floors and subfloors, and we are praying that our wiring has not corroded. Carrier was called to one of the other families homes and told them what we were told, that they had a moisture problem and that it was not the system.Carrier KNOWS this is an issue, the dealers KNOW this is an issue, but Carrier refuses to address it. We are writing this review to bring awareness. Consumer BEWARE. Carrier NEEDS to address this and figure out whats causing this 18 seer 5 phase system to destroy certain homes. We hope this honest review keeps others aware of what can happen with a Carrier Infinity 18 seer system and keeps others from living the nightmare we have since the installation of this system.
In October, 2020, National Heating & Air Conditioning installed a Carrier brand ductless heat pump/mini-split system in our home, including 1 heat pump, 3 heads, and 3 hand-held remote controls for $6,992.00. We were told it would offer us “zone control.” and to “set it and forget it.” Within a month of installation, the system was malfunctioning; all heads produced heat any time one head called for heat meaning, no zone control. After both the technician and Rick **, the “Comfort Consultant” from National confirmed the unit was not operating properly, they suggested we would need wall mounted thermostats installed to fix the problem. We wanted the system to work as we were told it would work, and the way the Owners Manual detailed it should work, with the remotes that came with the system. We opened a claim/complaint with Carrier believing they would stand behind their product and their advertising and get our system working as we were told it would work and as it was advertised to work. Rick and Len **, the Carrier Service Tech Mgr. began immediately began contradicting themselves by suddenly saying the system was working “exactly as it is engineered to work” while simultaneously saying the only solution to the “problem” was “wall-mounted thermostats” that they would “not charge us to ‘buy’ or have installed.” Len actually said if they did not find anything wrong with our system (this was AFTER it was confirmed it was not operating properly), I was not going to like to hear that the solution to the problem was going to be wall mounted thermostats. Please note: If there is no problem with the system, then why would the only solution be to install wall mounted thermostats to address the problem that had already been identified of no zone control? After 5 months of gas-lighting and giving us the runaround, we requested they “repair, replace or remove the defective system and refund us.” They chose the latter—and this was AFTER Rick gave us his word that he’d “do whatever it took to get the system working properly.” On the day of removal, they tried to have us sign a customer satisfaction guarantee that was not given to us on the day of installation that said if we were not 100% satisfied with the system, they would remove it. When we suggested they should have given us that agreement to sign the day of installation, we were met with more gaslighting, telling us the reason for that was because they were not doing paperwork during COVID. NOTE: They had no problem doing the paperwork on the day of installation for receipt of payment for the system, and giving us the owner’s manual that told us exactly how the system should work. We now have a DAIKIN brand ductless heat-pump with 1 heat pump, 3 heads, 3 hand-held remotes, flawless zone control, bypass heat that is redirected to the head calling for heat, and exceptional customer service from another local Heating & Air Conditioning provider, who has received the “Best of The Best” award several years in a row, for obvious reasons! Daikin offers a far superior warranty on BOTH parts AND labor—twelve years on both! Every extra penny we spent has been worth the difference to have a properly operating system and to have prompt response time to all forms of communication. Carrier spends a lot of money on advertising, but that does not mean their product is superior. I would not recommend it.
Im a homeowner and had two units installed in the two story house I completed in 2012. Its been 1 year and 3 months and Ive had 3 a/c outages. My upstairs unit (3-ton) has been out twice, most recently when the compressor blower motor stopped working. My latest problem is with the downstairs unit (2.5-ton) which needs a new evaporator unit. There is a leak in the copper coil which Im told is common. Most startling to me, however, was how corroded the entire evaporator unit appeared. I took a photo and posted here. The prevailing story I hear from the repair folks is that Carriers technology got way ahead of quality... in an effort to meet the rising efficiency requirements. The parts warranty is helpful, but the labor combined for all three repairs is now at $2000. Oh yeah, and I called Carrier (as a homeowner) to express my dissatisfaction. They towed the line on warranty terms and conditions and wouldnt transfer me to a Manager. Given my experience, I will never purchase Carrier equipment again.
Carrier at Home. Im a 100% disabled veteran and a senior citizen. A faulty heat exchanger resulted in a mandatory disconnection and no heat for 5 days. Carrier Corporate validated my warranty: replace and install part or discount on new furnace. Dealer said 3-day minimum wait if part available to ship over weekend. We opted for a new furnace as 5 days without heat was enough. Carrier found a warranty loophole: You didnt ask our permission first before you took the discount option. Discount denied. Carrier: Our core values define who we are and guide every decision we make.
I bought a high efficiency Infinity heating and cooling system from a Carrier authorized dealer in Oct 2009. Total cost was approx. $9500.00cdn. Both A/C and furnace came with a 10-year Carrier parts warranty. Also, I purchased 10-year Carrier labor warranty, which was offered in lieu of Carrier cool cash rebate of $350.00. My invoice clearly shows that there is a 10 years parts and Carrier labor warranty on both units.On May 31, 2013, our A/C unit stopped working. The dealer who sold and installed the unit is no longer in business. On June 3, 2013 I called Carrier at 1-800carrier, Canadian helpline. Carriers customer relations responded. She said that the dealer only registered for 10-year parts warranty and there is no labor warranty in their system. She said that she would send a message to Carrier office in Mississauga to look into this further and see what they could do to help me.On June 3, I received a call from Carriers technical division in Mississauga, who was extremely rude and simply said, There is nothing I can do to help you because the dealer did not register the labor warranty. Then he asked me for a warranty certificate issued by Carrier, which I never received. He wanted me to fax him a copy of the invoice, which I did. He said that he would talk to his sales management team and get back to me. He was focused more in telling me how their internal system worked rather than paying attention to my problem. He refused to give me his work number or the email address. He said to contact the 1-800 number (USA) and they would call him to contact me. After three days of several follow-up calls to 1-800-Carrier, the same person calls me back to tell me the same thing that there is nothing he can do for me. He concurred that there should be a 10-year Carrier labor warranty on both units as clearly indicated on the invoice. He also agreed that the cost of 10 years warranty was $350.00 (same as the Carrier cool cash rebate, which I never received because it was applied to buy the 10 years labor warranty), but flatly refused to honor the warranty because this warranty is not registered in their system and he could not go back and register this warranty after three years. He refused to send me his response in writing.
Module failed on model #FV4BNB006. I called an HVAC company. Carrier said the unit was warrantied for 5 years at the time this was purchased, although now the same exact unit is warrantied for 10 years. Sure enough, without knowing the exact date of install, Carrier claims the unit is out of warranty as of November of 2012. They dont care that the same unit now currently has a warranty of 10 years (new policy as of 2009); that the unit should not have failed 5 years prematurely; and that we, at the time we called, were only 3 months over the 5-year warranty. I spoke with a supervisor Jamie at customer relations. She was curt, only would repeat their policy and could care less about the situation of the same exact unit being warrantied for 10 years now. She didnt even know what the part was nor considered that it should not have failed at least 5 years premature! Oddly enough, there was another person listening into our conversation (another supervisor, Diane ID #**). She just came on the line without identifying herself and interrupted our conversation to say they would do absolutely nothing nor consider helping. Not only did I find this company absolutely uninterested in doing what is right, you could tell they were trained to do exactly the opposite. The way they operate, having big brother ready to chime in when they can to deny a claim, was downright creepy! Do yourself a favor. Look at all these miserable reviews of this awful company and steer clear of them. I have never written a review of a company before, but if theres one person I can help by reading this, its worth it. Carrier, you truly are an awful company and should be ashamed!
We replaced our old air conditioner in 2015 by a Carrier unit. The blower motor failed and was changed last year (2017). The motor was under warranty at a cost of $450.00. Again this year the blower motor failed and was again replaced at a cost of $420.00. I took the issue with Carrier and was offered no compensation. Stay away from this product.
This is a 29 year old unit that still works good by providing cool air when needed. It gets serviced about once a year at minimum cost so far, however my a/c man did say that it will need to be converted over to the newer coolant this coming year.
What good is a warranty when the costs are so high it makes it cheaper to replace system (central AC unit), second leak in the outside coil at one of the sweated joints in two yrs and maybe more. Called to see if they would replace condenser but they would only replace the coil making the repair costs too high. So I just fed up with this POS and went with a Trane 10 yrs parts and labor, what a expensive lesson, never again.
We wanted air conditioning, and were told that we needed to buy a new furnace unit combination, so we bought a Carrier. It was 14 years ago, and we have had to have repairs done to this thing, every single year. I will never buy another Carrier product as long as I live. The original furnace was 20 years old, and had only been serviced twice in that time. This is a rental, and in our own home, we have a 37 year old furnace that has been serviced once. Neither one of these furnaces were Carriers. Never buy a furnace with a circuit board. They do not last more than a year. It costs more than $200 every time you get it repaired.
The worst product ever used. Something on the furnace broke and it shredded items in house, endangering human life. The absolute worst furnace ever used. The furnace shredded and burnt stuff in the house. Poor quality product. It happened about 3 years of using it, and then something on the furnace broke, leaking water everywhere. This is a Carrier furnace that uses a boiler. After fixing the water leakage. It started to shred items in the house, causing excruciating pains and sufferings. Please everyone with similar problems with Carrier furnace, should start a class action lawsuit.
Five years ago, I had 7 5-ton Carrier 17 Seer units installed at my house (yes, really). It got hot a few days ago. Tech came out today and told me that 4 compressors have failed. All of the units run off of batteries first which are energized by street power and generator power. Ill keep everyone posted on how this evolves. I pay 20k a year for a 24/7/365 response on the HVAC systems. Hopefully, Carrier steps up and does the right thing.
I had a Comfort 14, 50HZC installed this past week. It replaced a 26+ year old Gettle Heat Pump. Now this new heat pump is way cooler and more efficient for sure, but way louder than my old Gettle. The only con and the reason for the 3 stars is for the high noise DB this new heat pump puts out, a very low rumble hum and you can hear everywhere in the house. You cannot hear it outside, cannot even hear it while standing next to it on the roof, but its there. Must be a vibration going through the unit, through the metal frame, through the roof. Now I am extremely happy the way the New Carrier Heat pump works, but I hate the low high DB rumble sound. The HVAC Guy from Qual Tech claims its the compressor. Well if it was, I should have heard it 12 inches from it on the roof, nope no loud sound at all on the roof, matter of fact its quieter standing 12 inches from it on the roof than it is inside the house. If the rumble was lower or less DBs or just quiet I would give the Heat pump a 5, but cant when a 26+ year old Gettle makes less noise and vibration that a supposedly state of the art New heat pump.
Our Carrier heat pump system was so quiet. The only way we knew it was on was the cool air filling the room. Although the Carrier system is more costly than other systems, it makes up the cost with efficiency. Our electric bill came down drastically after replacing our dinosaur.
On October 24, 2014, I had a new Carrier air conditioner installed. Unfortunately, the product has not performed well and to our expectations. As of May, 2015 the unit was making an unusual loud noise, although the technician was not able to find anything wrong. In August, 2016 the unit was making a loud noise again. This time we also noticed water leaking and that the unit will successively go on and off. The technician determined that the units expansion valve was faulty. In August 2016 the repair was completed. While the parts were covered under the warranty, we incurred expenses for the labor in amount of $375.00. In addition to the expense incurred and the hindrance of not having AC in 100 degrees weather, we had to twice take time off from our jobs, once to have the unit inspected and a second time to have the repairs done, which took nearly 5 hours to complete. We were disappointed to say the least and find it unacceptable that a new unit that has been in use for less than 2 years, to have such issues.To resolve the problem, we contacted Carrier and kindly requested a full reimbursement of the $375.00 cost we incurred. Per our online research, this issue has happened to other Carrier users and we deem this to be a flaw in the manufacturing of the system, and not normal wear and tear. The response back was that, while they are sorry for the inconvenience created by their system, they cant help us as they are not responsible for the labor cost we incurred! After we spent close to $7k on a new unit, I find it unacceptable to have to spend another $400 in the second year on repairs!
Our unit is now 12 years old, the amount of repairs we have done to the unit, we could have replaced it with a quality Trane system three time over. A year into the system, our air handler developed a small leak losing Freon, under warranty, but labor with Custom Air of Florida cost over $700. Variable speed motor was replace three times costing us over $3000. Replaced capacitors every year at $200 a pop. Twice we had to have a leak fixed in the compressor coil, $1000 each time. Carrier is crap. Called them, told too bad in less words. We have a new Trane system going in this Tuesday with a heat pump, all labor and materials covered under warranty for 6K. Screw Carrier, go to Mexico, dont buy their junk.
We moved into our totally new home in September 2015. Today, with temperatures hovering in the mid to high 30s C our air conditioner does not work because the Compressor is faulty and must be replaced. We have already waited for over 1 week (since July 21, 1:00 PM) and are told the part will be here by August 3. The part is covered by Warranty but the labor is not. We are told it will take about 6 hours labor at $88.00/hr and we will have to pay that. Does this sound like a reasonable deal???
I bought a new Carrier Performance model air conditioner in 7/09. 3 years later, supposedly the evaporator coil is possibly leaking refrigerant (410a) as the unit is barely cooling. The estimated cost to replace the coil (coil still under 5-year part warranty) for labor is $993 (includes the cost of 8lbs of Puron) and an additional $150-$400 to do a leak search. I am looking at approximately $1200+ for labor to repair. For a fairly expensive outlay for a piece of equipment and only lasting 3 years, this doesnt sit too well with me. After reading all the following complaints about Carrier and their evap coils, you wonder, where is their engineering on these coils? Possibly thicker copper tubing might help with the increase in operating pressures with Puron? Where is their quality control? Where is their concern for their customer base? If you keep making an inferior product (or is this planned obsolescence?), maybe Carrier needs to take lessons from Japan on making good products. My previous Payne A/C lasted approximately 35 years with only approximately 3 service calls. Needless to say, I am a very dissatisfied customer with this product. In fact, I am thinking on having this unit pulled out and buying another brand and take my loss as I have no confidence that another evap coil replacement will not fail in the future.
I am an a/c contractor in Florida. I have installed a lot of carrier/Bryant systems and I have had no problems. I also installed Trane, Maytag, Gibson, Frigidaire, Westinghouse, Goodman, Amana, Nordine. I had so many problems with these units it almost ran me out of business. I am still doing warranty work on them and I stopped installing them two years ago. If you are having the types of problems Im reading about here with carrier you should change your contractor because I have no problems and have installed hundreds of these systems. If you are looking for a great system, buy carrier but make sure you also pay for a great contractor thats just as important.
I will just be vague at this point to say that this is the worst air conditioner I have owned. This unit has had issues every year since I bought it. I bought it in Aug of 2008. Last year the compressor went out. The fan to the air handler went out the first year. And many instances in between. I heard of something from a service tech saying there was some recourse. I want recourse. I could not rate this unit since there are no negative options.
Moved into the new home in Dec 2012. By July 2014 had to have a capacitor replaced. Came home today and the entire unit is frozen. Was told by the serviceman that they were just notified by Carrier of bad modulators in the air handlers. $263 later (for labor), my question is... if Carrier knows of these bad modulators, why do I have to pay for labor to fix something that was wrong in the first place? Our prior unit (Trane) lasted OVER 20 years and in its lifetime we only had to have 3 repair calls (and all of them at the end of life of the unit). I will NEVER EVER buy another home if a Carrier is attached to it!!! I dont think a BRAND new home should have these issues and I should be able to have Carrier remove its unit and replace it with a brand that isnt going to nickle and dime me to death over the years!
Bought new gas furnace and it doesnt work, keeps shutting off. Installer thinks its a bad heat exchanger. Have called Carrier 5 times and this has been 5 months and no heat. A waste of $2000. I have never been treated so bad in my life. My tenant below threatened to move out. I am ready to sue Carrier for their lack of care and not standing up to their word. I am going to have to contact the attorney general I guess. I dont recommend Carrier.
Purchased new Carrier Infinity System for my home in July 2010. The system was great until heating season. When we began using the heat, we started noticing a bad odor. I contacted the dealer who installed the system and they said it was just that the system was new. A few months later, with no change in the odor, I contacted them again and they came out and told me I must have a dead animal in the duct work. Not! The odor was not constant like it would be if it were a dead animal.Then cooling season rolled around and no problems. The system worked great. Now heating season again and again, the odor was back. Called dealer again and they came out and said they couldnt smell it. Gave it a couple weeks and called dealer again (when it was very cold outside). Finally, the technician admitted noticing the smell, but had no idea what it was. He contacted the regional Carrier representative and was told that it was Dirty Sock Syndrome. He recommended cleaning coils with Listerine and installing a UV light.Dealer wanted to charge nearly $700 to install a light to get rid of an odor that I shouldnt have in the first place. It didnt exist with my old unit. From what I have read on the Internet, the UV light will likely not solve the problem anyway.I contacted Carrier and am getting the run-around that it was my environment that was causing the problem. Nothing had changed in my environment. Same environment with old system = no foul odor. Same environment with new system = foul odor. Conclusion was that there was something with the new equipment that was not getting along with the same environment thus the only thing that had changed was the equipment.Carrier, to this point, has refused to help. This was a known issue that these manufacturers were aware of and have been aware of, but refused to warn consumers about or correct the problem. In my mind, we need a Class Action suit filed in defense of the consumers in this country that are being taken for a ride by the HVAC manufacturers.
June 2003: We had a weather maker 9300TS furnace/air conditioning unit installed in our home. The previous furnace had been in the home for nearly 30 years and still running strong.Since we had this product installed, we have had to have it serviced every year. They have replaced the circuit board, switches, coils, re-worked the lines and yet again, with the temperature at 25 degrees, it has gone out again. At the time we thought we were getting a quality product, but now we realize that this product is not worth the contract we signed when we purchased it. Very disappointing to pay that kind of money for a product that does not work. The installers have came out each time and performed a quick fix instead of addressing the obvious issue, which is apparently a faulty product. I would never recommend a carrier product to another. As far as the duct work being under-sized, which I have heard some refer to when this product was installed we had duct work installed, also, its the product itself. Very disappointed, never again.
I purchased a heating and cooling package from Sears on about 10/15/2012. It was installed 10/23/2012. The unit did fine the first year but on about 12/20/2013 the heat pump began to fail to heat like it should and in about a week time, would not heat at all. So I called sears and they sent out a tech to found out the problem. He found a defective shift valve. Now being that, the manufacturer had known of this problem you would think that they would at least cover the labor being that it was a manufacturers issue from the start, not. Even though the parts are cover they want me to pay labor cost. I dont think thats these companies care about product but profit. The car company are made to fix their problem - why not the heat and cooling companies.
I had complaint Carrier for my split ac (1.5ton), this is my fourth complaint for your product. Last complaint was lodged for NOISE OCCUR IN SWING FLAP. Which was done by your engineer Mr. ** who had broken the swing flap and on the same day, when I switch on my air conditioner the swinging flap is not moving, and on the next day I again complain your carrier, then again Mr. ** come from your side as an engineer and said that it is broken by you, and you have to pay for this. Tell me why should I try to repair the air conditioner and why should I touch when you are providing services for your product, when the product is under warrantyor why should I touch I am not a technician of air conditioner. This part was totally checked and repaired by your employee and now today he is saying that you have broken the part and you have to pay for that.
I bought my heating and air conditioner on 7/18/16. On 6/24/18, the compressor stopped working and the tech found that the plug and compressor had melted. Although the compressor was covered, my bill was $734. The $4070 Carrier unit did not even work for two years. I think since it was Carriers fault their unit was at fault that they should have been responsible for the bill since the compressor has a warranty for ten years and didnt even last for two years. They should have at least been responsible for the freon that the unit lost because of their inferior product. I will never buy another Carrier product!
In less than three years of installing a new heat pump, we have had the upstairs computer board replaced, the outside capacitor unit and the upstairs blower motor. I have a case # given to me from Carrier for the concern of the unit. Of course, they say they havent had any complaints for these particular parts not lasting. According to all of the concerns I see from the reviews, I beg to differ. They have told me they will send a Carrier representative to us to have our unit evaluated if we have another problem as all things have been the inner electrical or computer parts. I have had no concern with our installer... just not happy with the product. I feel like spitting bullets.
Purchased CARRIER ocean environment, 17.5 SEER Heat Pumps and air handlers for new home. During annual maintenance of my 4 systems, it was determined that one subject unit had leaked all refrigerant. Had to refill at a cost of $550. Maintenance company ordered a new coil under warranty. It took 5 weeks to deliver. Another $500 of refrigerant and $700 in labor was required to make the repair. CARRIER had a known problem with the coils. The lack of stock and the long fulfillment time are logically related. Several false ship promises further belie this contention. Carrier should have made me whole for all expenses. They did not exhibiting lack of concern for the customer and their brand.
We purchased ours give or take 8 years ago. It was best deal in our price range and for size wise in comparison to the square footage of our home. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to purchase or replace their existing one.
In 2006, two Carrier Infinity heat pump systems were installed in my house to the tune of $25,000. Since 2010 I have not gone a single year without having a significant repair bill for at least one of the units. From 2010 through 2017 my repair bills for the units have exceeded $10,000. The compressor has gone out twice in one system and the other unit was totally replaced under a service bulletin (still cost me $1284.00 even though they admitted it was crap). Ten months after warranty period ended the compressor went out again. They say nothing we can do. BEWARE!!! Stay away from Carrier, unless youve just got money to throw away.
I purchased and had installed a complete Carrier Heat Pump and Air handler system. The air handler failed 3 years after installation. Carrier warrantied the part but it cost over a $1000 for installation and freon. I looked at the evaporator coil and it was total rusted through. How they can manufacturer a product that fails completely after 3 years is unthinkable. Carrier was not willing to help defray any of the installation and freon costs. I will NEVER buy a Carrier product again.
I waited on phone line (1-800-CARRIER) for 22 minutes. Then gave up and pressed “1” for call back. About 40 minutes later a young woman returned call. I explained that my local dealer told me that Carrier did not support Ecobee thermostats and I wanted to verify that information. She asked to put me brief hold. After a few minutes she returned to line and advised that I would need to contact Ecobee and she provided phone number. I asked if there was someone at Carrier I could speak with. She said no because they have “no technical support staff” in customer service.
We purchased a large new home 5 years ago with 4 top of the line Carrier Infinity systems installed by a very large AC company with a very good reputation. We were never informed that you must register Carrier products within 90 days to receive the advertised 10 year warranty. I called about a year after install and thought it would be an easy adjustment for them to give us the full warranty but I was told by one agent and then her supervisor that they each always register their own personal products within the required time and I should learn to do the same. I wasnt amused by their advise. They then only were willing to give the minimum 5 year parts only warranty and replaced multiple air handler blower motors, control boards, temp sensors, controls, condenser unit fan motors and more parts without paying any labor. Fortunately due to having 4 units, when one downstairs unit goes out the cool air from upstairs keeps it very comfortable in our main area of the house, and if you didnt check the thermostat you would never know one was out. Our main area unit has been out for the last 6 months. On three separate service trips to repair the unit, it would go back out between a few hours to the next day. I was unsure when our 5 year warranty was over and as it turns out we had a tech back 4 days after the expiration, and on this trip another condenser fan motor was bad. Carrier Infinity units use a very high dollar motor, the book installed price without warranty is about $1400. I called Carrier and asked about a goodwill extension on that motor but was informed that as it may have been out while under warranty, it is now a few days past the expiration so it is not covered. These failures were not due to poor installation as there are 4 units all with different problems and were installed by a company that Carrier actually recommends as a top installer and they were as well as other companies were back to try to do many repairs. This seems to be a common Carrier experience. I read comments from Carrier dealers defending the product trying to deflect criticism on other installers but thats not realistic. I hope my experience helps others decide on a purchase and remember that even if they gave a 10 year warranty, you still pay for the labor to repair unreliable equipment.
I purchased a Carrier HVAC System with 5 to 10 year extended warranty that is for parts & labor. While it is rare that I have had to call for service on the system, the few times I have, (including today) I am charged a service fee. This is the term used by the dealer so that I am paying for a service fee and they can say that I am not charged for the labor. I think it is misleading to buy parts and labor extended warranty and find the local dealer charges a service fee/call. Today, it was $112 to come out for less than 30 minutes. Granted it was on weekend after normal business hours, but the same has occurred during normal business hours.
$12,000 for a 3-ton unit installed in 2013. Within the first year the first unit had so many failures with AC that the dealer/installer had to actually remove and replace the whole outside unit. This was after 5 service visits over the summer. They replaced the compressor twice and several other parts (too many to remember). So, with a brand new heat pump you would think all would be good now. Wrong.Winter of 2015 and the system is running on heat-strip backup about 70% of the time. It is a MILD winter here also. I got my electric bill and the kilowatt usage for January had TRIPLED!! $$$. Dealer came out. Did something and said nothing is wrong. Next month I watched the thermostat as it stated the backup strips were running constantly AGAIN. The air-handler would blow cold air even when outside temps were in the mid 30s. When the pump couldnt meet the thermostat demand, on comes the electric strips... up goes my electric bill! I turned off the heat strips to tell the system to use heat pump only, but the only thing I get now is a constantly running air-handler and a VERY cold house. Buyer beware of Carriers low-quality product and marketing HYPE. This is NOT your fathers Carrier of yesterday.
I just recently had a complete HVAC system installed a few months back. We had our first Trane HVAC system for almost 20 years. We couldn't be more happy with this system. We would recommend Trane to everyone because of their quality and longevity!
Carrier bought in 2006 has had over 18 service calls on heat pump. Never once fixed more than 3-4 months. Now has a coil leak in heat pump. $6640.00 quoted for new unit. $3700.00 quoted to replace coil. Never buy Carrier again. Carrier customer service could not care less. Out of warranty.
I too bought a Carrier 3.5 ton split system a/c for my home in May of 2008. During the first year the installer would fix all the minor problems as they popped up, no out of pocket expenses. The 2nd year it started getting expensive. Refrigerant leaks, fan motors quitting, coils leaking and needing to be replaced, drip pan cracking and leaking, pounds of Puron added, startup capacitor replaced three times, and today 2.5 pounds of Puron. The only thing that hasnt quit yet is the compressor. I have spent a great sum of money from the yearly fix up. Carrier is undependable and expensive. My buddy had similar problems with his carrier. He installed his in 2007. After the 4th year of breaking down, he called a Trane dealer and had a unit installed. Up till now never a repair. He said for me to save my money and switch to TRANE.
We have a Carrier furnace and a/c. It is currently 25 yrs old. It just needs a tune up every year. It runs well and is dependable. We are holding out as long as possible to replace it. It is unfortunate that machines don’t last like they used to. Fingers crossed we can maintain ours for a few more years.
The centrifugal start switch on my blower motor keeps hanging up. When it does, the motor wont start and the main breaker blows. I have fixed this several times by putting the armature in my lathe and turning down the section in the fins that are rubbing on the switch. Attempted to get the OEM motor part number from Carrier but they refuse to give it to me. They say I have to pay a licensed HVAC dealer to get the part number. The last time I tried to get the HVAC dealer to replace my condenser fan motor, the dealer had no idea what motor I had and I had to remove the motor myself and give him the part number on the motor. Carrier has to be the most unhelpful manufacturer I have ever dealt with.
I bought a Carrier Mini Split Air Conditioner Model:40MHHC12 in 2018. After 1 season of use, it stopped producing cold air. A major component had failed (condenser coil)! The installer (ARS in Florida) refused to help, saying the unit must be maintenanced twice a year to stay under warranty for labor (brand new!). Carrier declined to comment about their unit failing after 1 year, or consider replacing the unit. The parts were under warranty, but the labor would cost almost $1000.00. Carrier said they would send a representative out to the installer company to review the issue, but after a month of me trying to find out the status of the issue, they finally just told me that there was nothing they would do. I would not recommend this company for air conditioners. High priced products with lousy quality.

In 2008, I purchased a major product which was a Carrier Bryant ClimateMaster GT-PX water source heat pump. I thought I purchased the best warranty and well-known product available with the cost of over $7000. After 18 months of operation, this unit started having problems. After a multitude of service calls to the dealer, it was determined that there was a water to freon leak. It was then classified as a catastrophic failure event. This happened during the middle of winter and we had to rely upon the back up heat system, which barely provided enough heat to keep but consumed a huge amount of power.Carrier required the dealer to cut the water coil unit and sent to Oklahoma to be analyzed. It was apparently determined the copper tubing had developed corrosion by contaminated loop fluid and their opinion was that it was not a manufacturing problem. I requested the coil system be returned so that I could have it analyzed by my own sources. I did not receive any response. I did, however, keep both intake and outtake ends of this coil system. There is no indication of any corrosion.Through many calls to dealer, distributor, and manufacturer (Carrier), the distributor finally agreed to replace the now destroyed heat pump, if I agreed to remedy the so-called water corrosion problem with a separate enclosed plate to plate loop heat exchanger, which I agreed to due out of desperation at the cost of $2600.The new water source heat pump provided by the distributor is a Carrier 50 YD model, installed on 04/22/11. Alas, this was not the end of the story. On 01/11/13 (20 months after installation), I had to have a service call to replace the freeze control sensor. One month later, Im still having problems. Another service call determined there was a freon leak at one of the solder connections which was repaired. I was wrong once again thinking, I had a good warranted Carrier product.As I understand it Carrier would not honor any of the repair costs which the dealer said he would absorb. Needless to say, Im stuck with this product. I really have no problems with the dealer or the distributor. It appears to me they took the brunt of the cost on this matter, which I feel should have been provided by the manufacturer. As you can see, this has been a long drawn process which the manufacturer has not taken any responsibility. This has created a lot of extra stress on my family and me. Obviously, I am not a happy customer and I feel that Carrier has given me, my dealer, and the distributor a lot of headaches and hassles. This is causing a lot of redundant time-consuming checks and rechecks and no warranty support. I will never recommend or purchase a Carrier product.
We had a new system installed in Sept of 2010. As of today, we are on our 3rd replacement ECM motor. According to the HVAC company, these have been failing at a terrible pace. The first two were under warranty (still had to pay $150 for labor) and now Carrier is saying they wont cover any more since we didnt register with them at the time of purchase (had NO clue we needed to do that!). Even though we have receipts for the sale from, they wont honor their warranty. If there is a class action lawsuit coming for these guys, sign us up!
We have a top of the line Carrier Infinity heat pump put in place in 2014. It was installed by an authorized installer who has been installing Carrier systems for 45 years. The unit is supposed to be state of the art and cost over $10K. But in 2015, one year after it was put in place, the system broke down in the summer and a motor had to be replaced. Now in 2016, second year after the installation, the system broke down again and another motor has to be replaced. And it takes more than 10 days to order the motor in todays world when everything you order from Amazon can arrive in 2 days.When I called Carrier to file a complaint, the lady I spoke with was supposed to be a senior level rep, and she was even more disappointing. Please note, I wasnt even asking them for anything. My repairs are covered by a service policy I already had. I just wanted to let them know my frustration as a consumer, and I think given the good reputation I have heard about Carrier, you would think how their customers are feeling about their quality and service. Well, this lady blamed everything on distributors and installers, and said Carrier provides 10 year parts warranty and thats all they can do. She basically said Why are you wasting my time by calling me. without using those words.Well, for a state of the art system such as Carrier Infinity, you probably wouldnt expect to shut down for 2 weeks every year in the hottest days of the summer. And you would probably expect Carrier to care more about the quality and service experienced by their highest paying customers. I need to replace another old HVAC system soon and I never thought I would get anything other than Carrier. Now I will look into what other competing products are out there.
The heat pump function on our 1 and 1/2 year old Carrier unit is not functioning properly. What happens is that when a steady temperature of 68 degrees is set, the unit buzzes and then fails to come on. Then it buzzes again and fails to come on. Then buzzes again and fails to come on. (Repeated on purpose.) Had the installation company come out yesterday morning and they found nothing wrong. The board was not fried. They tested all terminals and said they were okay. Paid $80 for the visit that did nothing. Like to wake up every minute or so as your heat pump fails? Buy a Carrier unit!
