Fisher Appliance Troubleshooting

Fisher & Paykel has been designing products since 1934 and has grown into a global company with products sold in more than 50 countries around the world. Their design heritage is founded on a pioneering spirit and a culture of curiosity. They built their legacy with a future focus that still stays true to the fundamentals of sustainable design. They believe technology should always begin with the people who use it. This has seen us challenge conventional appliance design to create products that deliver to genuine human need.

Dishwasher Troubleshooting

The DishDrawer won't start
Check that the power is connected.
Check that your dishwasher's Lock mode is not activated. To do this, hold down the Lock button until the Lock symbol (pre-finished models) or the green light (integrated models) disappears.
Check that the door is closed properly.
Check that the Start/Pause button has been pressed.

Dishes are not clean at the end of the cycle
Check that the wash programme is suitable for the load.
Scrape off excess food from dinnerware before loading and pre-soak baked-on food residue.
Check that the spray arm is able to rotate freely.
Check that your DishDrawer is not overloaded or loaded incorrectly.
Check that the detergent is in the correct (larger) compartment.
Check that you are using the right amount of detergent.
Check you are using a detergent that is recommended for domestic automatic dishwashers.
Check that the spray arm is clean.
Check the filter plate/drain filter is clean.

Dishes are not dry at the end of the cycle
Check that the Rinse Aid dispenser is filled.
Check that your DishDrawer is not overloaded or loaded incorrectly.
Try increasing the Rinse Aid setting.
If you were using the Eco wash setting, try a standard wash program.

The DishDrawer is leaking water
Check that the drainage hose is connected securely to the waste pipe.
Check that the inlet hose is connected securely.

The DishDrawer won't drain
Check for and straighten any kinks in the drainage hose.
Check for and clear any blockages in the filter plate/drain filter.

The DishDrawer's motor is noisy
Check that the filter plate/spray arm is correctly placed.
Excess noise may be caused by a lack of water in the motor area. This usually occurs on the first use or when the DishDrawer has not been used for long periods of time.

The DishDrawer is making intermittent beeping noises
Check that the pause function has not been activated. To do this, close the drawer and press the Start/Pause button.

Dryer Troubleshooting

The dryer won't start
Check that the dryer is plugged in and switched on at the wall. Try another power socket to be sure.
Check that the Child Lock function is turned off.
Check that the door is closed properly.
Switch the power off at the wall, wait 60 seconds and switch it back on.

Laundry is damp at the end of the cycle
Check that you're using the correct cycle for the laundry items you are drying.
Check that the dryer is not overloaded, then redistribute the load evenly in the machine.

The dryer is leaking water (condensing model only)
Check the water tank and empty if it's full.
Check that the drainage hose is connected correctly and is not damaged or blocked.

Laundry is covered in lint at the end of the cycle
Check that the lint filter is clean.
Check that the dryer hasn't been overloaded, then redistribute the load evenly in the machine.
Try drying lint-prone laundry items such as towels separately.
Check that you are using the correct cycle for your laundry to prevent over-drying.

Laundry items are tangled at the end of the cycle
Try separating larger items from smaller items.
Shake out laundry items before loading them into the dryer individually.

Range Troubleshooting

The oven won't turn on
Check the mains power or the isolation switch - this is usually in the kitchen. If there has been a power failure recently, your oven will need to be serviced.

The oven door won't open
Your oven may be in Self-Clean mode (selected models only). If so, the door will unlock when the oven has cooled to a safe temperature.

The oven light doesn't work
Check the bulb. If it needs replacing, order a new one.

The glass door is broken
There can be a delay after an impact or knock before the glass shatters. This is usually easy to repair.

The oven isn't heating
Check that the oven door is closed properly. Oven elements and fans will switch off automatically if the door is open or ajar.

The display is on but the oven won't work
The oven's Automatic Cooking, Child Lock or Control Lock functions (selected models only) may have been activated. Check your Use and Care manual for instructions on how to turn these functions off.

The fan doesn't stop when the oven is turned off
If you have a wall oven, the cooling fan will run for up to two hours after it is switched off to reduce the temperature.

Refrigerator Troubleshooting

The refrigerator isn't running
Switch the power off at the wall, unplug the refrigerator, wait 60 seconds, plug it back in and switch the power on again.
Check that there has not been a power failure at your address.

The internal light isn't working
Check the bulb. If it needs replacing, order a new one.

The motor seems to run for long periods
This may happen when the weather is hot or the door is being opened often. Minimise door openings to allow the temperature in the refrigerator to stabilise.
The refrigerator door may not be sealing properly. Check that the cabinet is level and the gasket seals are clean.

The storage compartments are too warm
Check that the correct temperature is set.
Minimise door openings to allow the refrigerator temperature to stabilise.

There is condensation on the outside of the refrigerator
This is not unusual during periods of high humidity. Wipe the outside surface dry.

Ice from the ice cube trays has a taste or odour
Tastes and odours can be transferred from foods that have not been covered properly. To keep ice cubes fresh, wrap strong-smelling foods.

Food in the refrigerator is freezing
In ActiveSmart models, food may freeze if it has been placed directly in front of the air outlets. Try moving chill-sensitive foods away from the centre of the shelf.
In Cyclic and Compact models, food may freeze if it has been placed directly in contact with the evaporator plate. Try moving chill-sensitve foods away from the rear of the refrigerator.

There is condensation inside the fresh food compartment
Condensation can form when the weather is humid or the door has been opened frequently. Minimise door openings to allow the temperature to stabilise and wipe the surfaces dry.
The door gasket may be leaking. Check that the gasket is sitting flat and sealing tightly.

There is water in the vegetable bins
The water produced by unwrapped vegetables may cause condensation. Try storing vegetables loosely wrapped in plastic bags - but bear in mind that a small amount of condensation is important for vegetable storage.

Ice has built up inside the freezer compartment
The freezer door may not be closing properly. Try moving items so the door can close tightly and check that the door gasket seal is clean. If you have a non-frost free model, defrost the freezer if the ice is more than 6mm deep.

Washer Troubleshooting

The washing machine won't turn on
Check that the washing machine is plugged in and switched on at the wall. Try another power socket to be sure.
Check that there has not been a power failure at your address.
Switch the power off, wait 60 seconds and switch it back on to reset the machine.

The machine won't fill when the Start/Pause button is pressed
Check that the door of the machine is closed properly.
Check that the wash cycle has not been paused. If so, the Start/Pause button will be flashing. Press the Start/Pause button again to restart the cycle.
Check for an error code on the machine's front panel.
Check the hot and cold water taps that supply your machine are turned on.
Check for blocked filters in the inlet hoses. Clear blockages and try again.
Check for and straighten any kinks in the water hoses.

The washing machine stops working mid-cycle
Check for an error code on the machine's front panel.
Check that there has not been a power failure at your address. If so, restart the wash cycle once the power supply is restored.
Check that the wash cycle has not been paused. If so, the Start/Pause button will be flashing. Simply press the Start/Pause button again to restart the cycle.
A build-up of detergent suds can cause this problem. Check that you are using a frontloader-specific detergent. The wash cycle will restart when the suds have dissolved.

The washing machine drains while it is filling
Check that the drainage hose is installed correctly and is not too low.
Check that the outlet end of the drainage hose is not sitting in water.

The washing machine isn't draining
Check for blockages in the drainage hose. Clear and try again.
Check that the pump filter isn't blocked.
Check that the drainage hose is not more than 1200mm above floor level. If it is too high, adjust and try again.

The washing machine is filling continuously
Check that the drainage hose is positioned in the standpipe or tub. If not, adjust and try again.
Check that the standpipe or tub is at least 800mm above floor level to avoid siphoning.

The washing machine's rinse cycle isn't working properly
Check that you are using a low-suds, frontloader-specific detergent.
Check that you're not using too much detergent.
Check that the wash load is distributed evenly in the machine.
Try the machine's Rinse + function.

The washing machine isn't spinning properly
Check that the wash load is distributed evenly in the machine.
Check that your machine is not rocking or moving while it is running. If necessary, adjust the feet so that the machine is level.

The washing machine is producing too many suds
Check that you're using a low-suds, frontloader-specific detergent.
Check that you're not using too much detergent.

Water is coming from the bottom of the washing machine
Check that the drainage hoses are not damaged and are fitted correctly. If not, adjust and try again. Monitor the wash cycle when you suspect leaks.
Too many detergent suds can cause this problem. Check that you are using the correct amount of a frontloader-specific detergent. Monitor the wash cycle when you suspect leaks.
Check that the detergent dispenser drawer is closed properly.
Check the rubber seal on the inside of the door for damage. If the seal is damaged, it will need to be replaced.

The wash cycle is taking longer than normal/the machine is displaying inaccurate time remaining
Your machine's wash cycle time is an approximation and can vary depending on a number of factors, including household water pressure, unbalanced wash loads and a build-up of detergent suds. Differing cycle times will not affect the quality of the wash.

Detergent/fabric conditioner is left in the detergent dispenser drawer at the end of the wash cycle
Check that the detergent dispenser drawer is closed properly from the start of the wash cycle.
Check that the detergent dispenser drawer is clean.
Check that the detergent dispenser drawer has not been overfilled.
Check for blockages in the detergent dispenser drawer. If liquid is sitting at Max Level in the dispenser drawer at the end of the wash cycle, it may be blocked.
It is normal for a small amount of water to remain in the detergent dispenser drawer at the end of the wash cycle.

I purchased a top loading dryer in 11/07. Within 4 months, the dryer needed a new heating element. In Sept.of 08, the module had to be replaced. Then, it was serviced again March of 2011. Now the heating element and module have to be replaced. The dryer has been a total lemon. I want a new dryer and Fisher and Paykel is balking because the dryer is four years old.

The guy who has fixed our appliances in our house recommended the Fisher & Paykel washer. He said it was a really good washing machine. He has seen it. He’s installed it a few times. He thinks it’s great. And weve used him for years so we trusted him, so we bought that. We have been happy with the washing machine so far.

We purchased the washer and dryer 5 years ago as appliance sales people everywhere gave the set rave reviews. Their excitement had to be due to huge spiffs or incentives for selling these as I have never owned anything so problematic. Among the issues, no service people know how or want to repair them. The washer doesnt clean clothes, water temp is never correct, and there are error codes. The dryer doesnt catch lint, it is noisy and it stopped working. I have been told by several salespeople, They are so easy to work on. Very few moving parts, etc. What no one tells you is that moving parts are very inexpensive compared to the circuit boards needed to possibly fix my dryer so it will run. $360.00 for the parts and who knows for labor! Despicable! I will never do business with Fisher & Paykel again nor will I pay to talk to a service rep on line. Very poor customer service.

Three or maybe four service calls for reset tripping. Second reset is now on order for over a month. I have to take off cover and hit reset to dry clothes. If I get a fire, I will sue - be assured. Never F&P again. Lowes farms out service and they never report to F&P, so they have no record of failures. I see many posts with same problem with dryer, so it seems it’s a design defect. My vent is open and within recommendations for length, bends, etc. Piece of junk.

We remodeled our kitchen 3 years ago. We bought FP appliances because we liked the look of them. They are very sleek, with most other brands being big and bulky looking. In the 3 years we have had a service call on the refrigerator, dishwasher and oven. We have now been without an oven for 3 months. We have had 4 service calls and no one can fix it. It takes about one hour to heat up and then the service guy said it is off 80 degrees. They have finally decided to replace it, on our extended warranty. The question is whether to get another FP. They appear to break a lot and no one can repair them. Thats why I came to this website.

About 5 years ago we lost our house to a fire. We lost everything so had to purchase all new appliances. We purchased a 2-drawer dishwasher and fridge. After approx. 2 years the fridge quit and lost all our frozen content. To be fair the company paid for the repairs. Just recently the dishwasher keeps filling up with mold. Called a repairman and he said it would cost approx. 350.00 to repair the sensors which make the heat come on all the time-so the mold. Cant turn it off. Every time it is opened the heat comes on. The next day our fridge did the same thing as 2 years before..Again we again called Fisher Paykel on both occasion dishwasher and fridge. We were told that appliances have a 4-5 year life and the problem was ours. Both these appliances were very expensive and should have a longer life. I WOULD NOT PURCHASE THEM AGAIN NOR WOULD I RECOMMEND THEM TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

We have a 5 yr old Fisher Paykel AquaSmart washer. I was washing a load of laundry and the washing machine just stopped! I cant get anything to work. There is a load of laundry and a boat load of water in the tub! I called a repair guy but have not heard anything back yet to set up anything. Meanwhile, my husband is wringing out clothes by hand and using a bucket to get the water out of the washer so it doesnt start to smell. How can I find a repair guy that really knows about this washer? We are not very happy campers right now.

This is the third F+P 2-drawer dishwasher we bought; two of them are in our rental flats in London, England. Both have been okay and the service in London was excellent. The one we have in Pennsylvania, I knew when it was problematic there would be no service. These hicks here dont even know what the brand name is.F+P New Zealand recommended two service companies. First, one guy never heard of the equipment but booked his in law to do the service. On the day of the service after waiting a week, the wife of the guy said he has the flu and must cancel. We have been down since Christmas day and its now the 9th of Jan. She didnt know when he could reschedule. The other one had an answering service and I left a message 10 days ago and again twice today, the 10th. The service leads you to a message that says leave your number which I did now 3 times. And if we want faster service, email them at a certain address which we did only to get a message that 10 days ago they changed their address to something else. Still no calls. This is hopeless and I do not recommend anyone to buy this unit in the US unless you are in the bigger cities where service companies are plentiful and they know the products. I loved the unit until I tried to get it serviced. I will never buy another and we own 46 properties.

Weve had Fisher & Paykel. We really had bad luck but we love the washer. We got the washer and dryer maybe 60 years ago and we actually had a lot of problems but we love the way that its been so we chose to try it again so hopefully it will be better this time. I really like the other one better. This new one does a whole rinse and spin but it doesnt allow you to just spin. But I would say what I love the most about it is that the way it spins then still dry. Its a nice washer and dryer. But I do wish that you didnt have to do the whole rinse cycle for it to spin.

I have been trying for 6 months now to get the correct part for my 2 year gas range, the oven igniter does not work. I have been sent the wrong part 4 times and in my last discussion with their service department (3 weeks ago) I was told they do not make the replacement part I require. I asked them if they are going to provide me with a new replacement range. They said they would get back to me and to date I have heard nothing even though they promised to get back to me the next day. I have sent numerous emails following up and they are ignored. I am now taking them to small claims court to settle the matter. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE BUYS a FISHER PAYKEL PRODUCT. High prices, poor quality and poor service.

I won a Fisher Paykel dishdrawer, washer and dryer set in a contest from my local PUD. All three had to be repaired over and over under warranty. After the warranty expired, I have paid to have them all repaired. I finally took the dishdrawer to the dump and just went out and bought a new washer and dryer set. They too will also end up going to the dump. They both still work, but leave my clothes smelling (tried everything to make that go away) and never feel like my clothes are clean. I have never been so disappointed in winning something and I have regretted getting rid of my old washer and dryer set that worked like a charm. I would not go out and buy anything (especially the money I spent to get a new washer and dryer) if something works - that should tell you something.

I purchased a brand new F&P washer and dryer. We really do like them, and we have had no problems except the dryer tumbling issue which others have had. Last year in September, the dryer made loud grinding noises and then parts fell onto the laundry in the dryer. We replaced the parts and again the parts broke off onto the laundry in the dryer. I am checking to see if F&P will pay for these parts or if there is a consumer class action out there we can join. Can anyone give us information on this subject? Thank you!

I bought a brand new FP washer and dryer the end of 2006. I paid approximately $1,000.00 each for them, because the salesperson assured me what a wonderful company FP is and how wonderful their products are. Well, what a waste of my hard earned money. I have had the washer fixed 3 times and the pump just went out of it again. I am awaiting the repairman to return with the part to fix it. In the meantime, I am spending at least $40.00 a week at the laundromat. I have had the dryer fixed twice. The last time, it put little holes in my clothes so I lost a ton of money in ruined clothing. I am lucky that there is a repairman in our area who knows what hes doing. However, it is always at least 3 weeks until the repair is completed. First, he has to come out to see whats wrong; then order the part; then come back out to repair it. Now when you figure it out, I am spending at least $120.00 at the laundromat, plus I have the cost of the repairs. This time the repairs will be at least $200.00. During the Christmas season, both Lowes and Home Depot had a washer/dryer pair for around $400.00. Considering the amount of money I already have invested in FP washer/dryer, the extravagant purchase price, the amount of money I have invested for repairs to both units, the amount of money I have invested in the laundromat and the continuous inconvenience, I would be farther ahead to buy a cheap set and replace them every two years. Now I will say that FP reimbursed a portion of the first repair; however, when I advised them of the second repair, they basically said that appliances dont last forever.I cant say that forever is 3 or 4 years. Considering the price of FP, I would expect them to last at least 10 years. I am very disappointed in the FP brand and have to say that I will not consider purchasing that brand again. I have just spent the past hour reading the reviews on this website and it seems to me that FP just produces an inferior product. FP should take action to compensate people and not just tell them that they are sorry to hear of their problems or that their concerns have been forwarded to a senior representative.

I bought this dishwasher a few years ago. I thought it would be great because of the 2 drawers. It is the worst dishwasher I have ever owned. We had it repaired 6 times in the 3 years I owned it and the last time, it couldnt be repaired. In talking to the place I bought it, they put in a request for assistance from the Fisher Paykel Rep, who said there was nothing he could do for me. You can feel comfortable setting the temperature, spin cycle, etc. according to the booklet that comes with it and you have TONS of sensors that determine if anything unusual is being laundered. If so, the units automatically reset to take care of things. Both the washer & dryer open on top. These are manufactured in Sweden. While a little pricey, they last without any service calls for a very long time and are extremely reliable. The dryer filter is super easy to remove and clean, so it’s no trouble to clean after each load.

Our very expensive F&P washer and dryer set, has had serious problems for the last few years. Washing machine cant run a cycle without stopping over and over again and having to reset it. Dryer periodically has to be unplugged just to turn on and it is also making weird squealing sounds and sounding erratic when running. Just to name a few problems. I have tried and tried to contact the company to find someone who can come out to look at, and possibly repair, the machines. But, the company doesnt even reply to my attempts to get in touch with them. Nothing, no reply, no help, no follow up, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE WHATSOEVER. It is pretty ridiculous to have machines that were in the highest price bracket, start failing after only about 5 years. And it is even more ridiculous for a company to not even reply to its customers when they reach out for assistance. Very disappointed.

First, it was my Fisher & Paykel oven, which by the way, the company came out three times to try to fix. After they said they fixed it, by replacing the main circuit board, It takes well over 90 minutes to preheat to 350 degrees F. What a waste of energy and time!! Plus, sadly, I dont enjoy baking or roasting meals for my family anymore. Now, my refrigerator beeps every time I open the door, upper and lower (it is a french door frig/freezer on bottom). An F20 code is on the door panel. I read about this in the internet and customers are saying it is a $1,000+ fix!Fisher & Paykel are expensive products. Mine are only six years old. I remodeled my kitchen around these products. My only choice is to deal with the company to get them fixed. But I want EVERYBODY to know how unreliable they are!! PS I went to an open house at an expensive condominium/apartment project in Orange County, California. Noticed all the units have Fisher & Paykel kitchen appliances. Oh boy. The national multi-family home builder is NOT going to be happy when homeowners and residents start complaining.

We bought a first generation Fisher & Paykel double drawer dishwasher when we had our condo built back in 2000. We replaced it with a new Fisher & Paykel unit since the one that we had had a lot of quirk things about it and they were becoming too much of a challenge for us to deal with. We chose this model because my husband and I are empty nesters and we liked the idea of having a smaller dishwasher to fill and run rather than having to put every dish we own over a course of two weeks into a single regular size dishwasher. Our favorite feature is its two drawers. One of them is a deeper drawer that can easily handle big plates and platters. Its very quiet. It is water efficient. Its very attractive to look at. Theres nothing about the dishwasher that to me represents either a negative or settling for something. Its just absolutely perfect for us in every way. We are extremely happy with the product.

We had Fisher & Paykel washer that was about 5 years old. The pump went out and the cost of replacing was so high that it was better to get another one from a different manufacturer. But the washer broke out unlike the one we got from Fisher & Paykel, so we purchased from Fisher & Paykel again. Compared to the past model we had, this one is good. I like its soak cycle feature which the other one didnt have. Were not happy that the first one didnt last longer than it did but we like it.

I have a 3-year-old DCS by Fisher and Paykel refrigerator and it stopped cooling. After four weeks, with a technician going back and forth to my house, they told me that the unit cannot be fixed and discontinued. I have a 48 built-in that cost me $7,000, three years ago, and F&P only want to provide me with a prorated dealer credit of $5,300, what a joke. I not only paid $7,000 for this unit, thee years ago, and they cannot fix it. I now have to pay another $2,500 to get a new unit. Beware, this is totally unfair and no one should ever buy a Fisher and Paykel unit.

This is the second set of washer and dryer we have owned. Our daughter has the first set, and after 15 years, it is still working great. Due to a re-location, we purchased a new washer and dryer. The washer works fine. The dryer, on the other hand, is not working out. We had the repairman come out due to the fact that the dryer overheated. It had to be taken apart and all the lint had to cleaned up. As per the repairman, it is a design flaw. This has to happen every third week; the lint builds up so fast so I empty the lint holder every time I finish drying a load. We have had our dryer vent cleaned from the outside, and just to be sure, we cleaned it from the inside also. We are not happy with this dryer. My husband said we should just get a cheap dryer somewhere. I had so much confidence in Fisher Paykel that’s why we bought this second set.

We spent 3 times as much for a trendy looking SS Double drawer dishwasher. We had the service people out 3 times the first year. He spent hours at a time on the phone to Tech support in New Zealand. Never got the bottom drawer from leaking. Subsequently it would trip a wet switch and would not restart until it completely dried internally. Finally Fisher Paykel offered a brand new later improved model. The catch was we had to pay freight since local distributor quit handling the brand. This cost $395.00 for shipping. Or as much as a mid range Whirlpool. It malfunctioned within 2 years. Local service tech got Fisher Paykel Tech support on the phone. Diagnosed as bad hot plate. Spent $200.00 to put new on in.Didnt fix problem. Further inspection showed it was a burned main circuit board. And now a burned wiring harness. I spoke to customer care about my issues. They have said document and possibly theyll do something? That is still uncertain. Ill repost if something positive comes out.

This is our 2nd DishDrawer Dishwasher from Fisher Paykel, and it works great. Smooth, quiet operation where you dont even know its on. Dishes come out clean with no problems. This is one of two dishwashers in our house and it is used for smaller loads or overfill from our main dishwasher. Easy self-installation. Would recommend it to anyone. Received an additional 2 years parts and labor warranty from Fisher Paykel as a promotion for a total of 3 years.

I saw a Fisher & Paykel commercial about the type of dish washer that I wanted and from what I understand, theyre pretty much the only ones the make those now, the drawer ones. So when my refrigerator quit working, I decided to buy one although it was much more expensive but it had the drawer option that I wanted. The company has been very good so far. As far as I know, I dealt with just the company that I bought it from in the store, but as far as my happiness with the dishwasher, Im not really pleased. To begin with, we had the one that I ordered and laid for to be in stock and it was put in and for some reason it leaked immediately. Right after the delivery guy left, it started leaking, at least twice. Its been three times its flooded my kitchen floor, my hardwood floor. They called me that they were going to contact the company of Fisher & Paykel and find out if they were going to do anything about my floor, but I havent heard anything. Then they bought me a stainless steel one and put it in to replace the one that I ordered, which was a couple hundred dollars more and they didnt make me pay the extra money, which was nice. I have my dishwasher and I was happy. But since then, its only been less than a year and probably six months or so but the pieces inside where you stack the dishes are already breaking. I have to find another piece that I could put there so that I could get my dishes in there. Plus the fact that the chimes are so close together that you cant get anything in there except for a flat dish, unless you just take all of the things out and just have an open drawer. Our complaint is that nothing fits in them right and it doesnt clean as well as I thought they would. I thought they would be very good for what we spent on them. I put less and less in them just thinking itll get cleaner and cleaner because theyre in such a compact area. But they dont really seem to. And I follow all the rules on what they say to do and stuff but even so stuff is not as clean as I thought it would get. So I dont know what it is that keeps it from being clean, but I keep trying.

The final straw is today, when we came home from a vacation with many loads of wash to do and the control panel is beeping, completely broken and not working! I am so frustrated! Do not buy Fisher & Paykel if you want a maintenance-free trustworthy washer! It has been very costly to replace 3 agitators and probably now, a control board! Totally unreliable! Now out of warranty (didnt buy the extended) its broken again as I feared it would. The pump wont pump. We sold our old Maytag cheap. This set was very pretty and it was an energy saver. I cant afford to replace every three years and that would not be EcoSmart use of our resources!

My four year old washing machine just died in the middle of a wash cycle. There was no indication on the digital display. I validated power to the unit then called customer service and asked for help but got nowhere. Basically, the control unit is divided into two component parts: display and motor control. Power goes to motor control, which controls the display. I located the specs sheet and tried to get out error codes, but no luck (now that’s a design flaw. How can the display board tell you it has a problem when it could be the problem?). So, it’s either the display ($160) or the motor control ($140). Both are easy units to replace. So I asked whether I could buy both units and return the one I dont use. Their answer was no. So what are my options? Have a repair guy come in at $100 who will then do what I can do for another $50 and then charge me for a marked-up part because hell tell me that’s their handling fee. End of the story is I have to make a decision to replace a 4-year-old product for another machine which would cost me about $550. The real kicker is I bought this machine and it replaced a 15-year-old machine that worked.Another thing, although the customer service had plenty of “Im sorry” they, like the repair shops who are dancing all the way to the back, are absolutely useless. My recommendation is do not buy from Fisher & Paykel, located in New Zealand. Buy from a local US company. At least you have the option of protesting outside their office.

We have a GWL12 top-loading washer. I will start off by saying my wife and I love the washer and dryer we have, but we are not loving it so much these days. We have had the controller board go out for the third time and its getting very costly. I will say Fisher Paykel did step up to the plate on the first one, but the second was on me, and now I have yet another dead washer. I have been all up and down these forums and had seen nothing but bad reviews when it comes to these controller boards. These boards are $150 a pop. This last one only lasted 2 years. I had to go buy an older, used washer just to keep the washing going. But I still have hopes of fixing this washer one last time. Dont get me wrong, its a really good washer when its running. I have seen bad reviews on the GWL11 and GWL12 for this problem. I hope things are improving over there. These are too expensive of washers to break down like this. Sorry for the rant.

[COMPLAINT] POOR SERVICE! I had a scheduled repair / service on my washing machine today. The service was supposed to occur between 7 am and 12 pm. At 12:45 pm I rang customer service. They advised that there were many people off sick and the technician was running late. (My reply is why didnt someone ring me to let me know they would be late?) He would be at my house in 30 to 60 minutes. At 3:45 I rang to speak to someone to find out what was going on. I spoke to Daniel who then advised that the technician had tried contacting me but couldnt reach us. He double checked my details and everything they had was correct. He advised they could come back tomorrow as the technician went home. I advised I couldnt wait any more than what I had done today. I asked to speak to a supervisor, her name was Tanya. Tanya then said the same. I said this wasnt good enough that I had taken this much time off and she agreed. She asked what I wanted and I suggested Fisher and Paykel should pay for the repairs. She said they couldnt do this, but that something should be done. I asked what and she said she couldnt make that decision now and she would be back on Thursday to let me know. Fisher and Paykel you need to seriously pick up your customer service game. This is not appropriate.

Bought a Fisher and Paykel dish drawer less than two years ago. Around the beginning of March there was an error code warning on the machine and it was leaking water onto my hardwood floors. I contacted Fisher and Paykel and was told to work with the one service repair company in Austin Texas. They finally came out on March 9th to look at my machine. The technician told me the symptoms of my machine did not make sense but if he swapped out a few parts it would probably resolve the issue. Finally two weeks later I was told the parts were indefinitely on backorder. At this point I called Fisher and Paykel directly. I was given the royal run around. I contacted the company 12 times over the course of 6 days. Each time I was assured that someone would call me back in the next hour or so. Never got that call. When I called back in to follow up on the issue, I was told a different story and that it was out of the representatives hands or that they were a New Zealand company and the person in charge was gone for the day. I was told the companies issue was due to the long shoremans strike and my part would likely arrive in late April. I stressed that the technician was not totally sure the parts would fix my machine, so I was supposed to wait six weeks for parts which may not even get my machine working again.

My former neighbor had a Fisher & Paykel washing machine and when she no longer wanted to top load and we were moving, she offered it to me and it lasted maybe a year. It was not even a two-year old machine and we had to have parts replaced on it. When we moved in here, I bought the Fisher and Paykel top loading dryer because of its energy efficiency and I had multiple problems with that, to the point where it needed to be replaced and then after it was replaced, the service people had to come back in and they had to take off a piece of the top part that was rubbing on the dryer.I replaced my washing machine with a GE and that has been okay. The dryer seemed okay, but I dont trust it and the only way I got service was to call Fisher and Paykel themselves and speak with the representative there. Fisher and Paykel claimed that the representative that supported this area where I live was having family emergencies. Im also having an emergency when I had a lot of laundry to do that I dont have time to go out a Laundromat to do. I hold my breath, I wont leave the house when the dryer is running. I constantly go in and check it because Im just not certain. It took me seven months of dealing with the problem and then finally they agreed to replace the machine with a new one. Its fine, but I still have little hesitation about leaving it unattended. I dont have the money to replace it. When I do I will.

Had my washing machine about 18 months, when the drain pump went, then about 4 weeks later the circuit board went down. What gets me angry is that each part takes over a week to get repaired to the machine, as they have to order the part. I find this outrageous that it takes that long. You can only contact Fisher Paykel on the 1300 number in NZ, and theyre not worried that you are without your appliance for however long, as the parts come from their Queensland depot, and they dont do overnight express. So I asked why they didnt have a service center with their parts here in WA, and every Capital City, but they said its not necessary to do that. What a lot of bull. Their customer service is disgusting. Washing machines are very needy when you have kids. Waiting for over a week to get any appliance fixed in this day and age is bad management, and they need to look at ways to provide quicker and better service to the consumers that buy their products that keeps them in jobs. This will be the last Fisher Paykel appliance I ever buy - never again!

We purchased a Fisher Paykel custom designed refrigerator 3 years ago. We were leery of buying a $4,000 refrigerator for the same reasons people are advised not to buy a Jaguar - frequent problems, expensive parts and service. Well, we bought it because it could be built to fit in the design of our new kitchen. Two days ago, we noticed a pool of water had begun to make its way across the floor. We called and were told the next available service appointment was February 8th, 19 days away.Problem is, we sold our house and are leaving in 4 days, moving out of state. Fisher gave us the name of a subcontractor repairman. We waited two days for an appointment with him. He just left and said the refrigerator was installed incorrectly to begin with and now needs a part that should have been used in the first place. That part will not be available for 5 days, the day after we move out of state. Long story made short is, in 64 years, I have never had a refrigerator break down and leak. Never. And certainly not a $4,000 one. Never again.

Soon after, we had problems with the way it dried (not drying many loads) the control panel cracking and breaking and we couldnt even turn it on. Now it is making the squeaking noise which is probably the bearing. It is now out of warranty and to fix it I could invest in a better dryer than have to pay to have it fixed every year. They looked nice in the picture. When I saw them for the 1st time, the construction looked cheap but I thought, well, Ill see how they perform and not judge a book by its cover, so to speak. The washer doesnt wash them very well. I can still smell odors after my clothes have been washed and dried. I dont know why, but all of our clothes are getting these small holes all over them. The lip on the washer locks so you can start it after you put detergent in. I can go on and on. Save yourself the trouble and buy a Maytag or Whirlpool, anything but this. I bought a $2500 gas range and it was broken as soon as I took it out of the box. When I turned on the oven, the fan failure light came on, so I couldnt use it. I contacted them and two weeks later, a repair technician showed up. He had to order new parts and two weeks later, he installed them, so I could finally use the oven. Once I was able to use the oven, I discovered that the fan that cools the outside of the oven was extremely noisy and vibrated the whole appliance. I contacted them again and a month later, he showed up with a new fan. He installed the new fan and it didnt make a difference. By this time, I had also discovered that even though I set the oven at 200 degrees, the lowest temperature I could get in the oven was 325. Five months later, he came back with special tape to put around the noisy fan which made a difference. Although it is still a little noisy, I can live with it compared to the racket it was making before. He also brought a new thermostat and spent hours installing that. It didnt fit, so the oven knob doesnt fit on right, I have to leave the escucheon off to put the knob on. I cant light the oven with the knob on. I have to turn to the desired temperature, pull off the knob, stick my finger in the hole and press the thing in to get the oven to light. It still didnt fix the problem with the oven and now three of the burners dont work. I bought this stove in September 2010. Its now December 2011 and the problems keep getting worse. All of the delays are either from their representative not getting back to the repairman, or the parts being back ordered for months at a time. This is the worst appliance I have ever owned and I would not recommend this brand to anyone - the oven doesnt work properly; only two out of five burners work and repairs have been dragged out for fifteen months.

Our F&P refrigerator stopped working while we were on vacation and when
Our F&P refrigerator stopped working while we were on vacation and when we got home, we called the F&P dealer. They told us it was 2 months out of warranty and we should call any repair service we choose to fix it. Our repairman told us the motherboard had burned out (you could see the soot) from a power surge which could have been prevented by a surge protector. Cost to repair is $448. No one at the appliance store told us we should have a surge protector. There is no information on the refrigerator or on the power cord to recommend one. The installers just plugged it in and that was that. I hold F&P responsible for not letting us know about the need for a surge protector. To make matters worse, the motherboard for our refrigerator is back ordered. We will be without a refrigerator for two or three weeks until it comes in. That seems an unconscionably long time to wait without a refrigerator. Evidently F&P has problems managing their parts inventory and about servicing their customers. After this I called F&P in New Zealand on the advice of the repairman. He thought they might pay for a new mother board. Turns out I should have called an F&P authorized repairman first. No one at the F&P dealer told me that. I had already paid for our repairmans first visit and he took the motherboard with him to see if he could get a temporary fix (he couldnt). So I asked for the phone number of the local F&P authorized dealer so I could explain what had happened. I was told that they wouldnt give me his phone number because of privacy issues. I cant make any sense of that: a refrigerator repairman who wont give out his phone number? What kind of repairman is that? Our cat got sick and will require refrigerated meds for 10 days. Thats a hassle without a refrigerator. But the person I talked to at F&P never acknowledged that the breakdown of their almost new F&P product was making my life difficult or expressed any empathy or sympathy at all. It was like talking to an attorney, not a customer care rep. Maybe thats the way they treat customers in New Zealand, but it sure doesnt go over very well over here.

Have had our Fisher Paykel top load dryer for approximately 1-1/2 years. Started making a very loud noise which turned out to be the lint filter breaking away so lint could not escape. Paid the service repair $340.00 to fix it. He had just left when a new grinding sound started. He has been back four times and still cannot fix the problem. Now I am told we will probably have to replace the drum and bearings. I could have bought a brand new dryer (that would work for years! ) for what I have paid to repair this one.

We have an F&P double dish draw. The top draw started to have an error message mid wash - U6. The bottom draw worked perfectly. It took 2 weeks to get a service appointment after being cut off on the phone twice. They came this morning and replaced a water valve but confirmed the bottom draw was in perfect working order. $180 later, valve replaced and told all good. Load the dish draw tonight after dinner and go to turn on. No power to either draw. I think the service tech must have turned off at the power point. No it is on. We connect to another power source. Still no power. I call F and P after hours number. Eventually a very unhelpful and non caring Leah tells me the earliest appointment to attend is Monday next week.We have Christmas at our home this weekend and cannot be without a dishwasher. Surely we would be a priority as it was working before they attended. I was put on hold abruptly for 12 minutes, and then had another staff member say that there would be no refund and I had to have a booking for the new problem. They would try for tomorrow but no guarantee. I now have to take a second day off work, have no dishwasher at all for the Christmas party, and if I am lucky I might not have to pay for them to fix their own mistake. Shame shame shame on you F&P. And a little empathy and customer service training would not go astray. Also I do expect a refund for your technician mistake that has cost me. Very unhappy.

My daughter is an interior designer and she introduced us to Fisher and Paykel appliances 12 or 13 years ago and we bought our first dish drawers then. At our next house, we had Fisher and Paykel washer and dryer as well as the dish drawers. Then our next house, we had a KitchenAid copy of a Fisher and Paykel dish drawer which was a piece of junk. So for the current house, Im remodeling the kitchen right now and we bought dish drawers. The products are fantastic. They pay attention to how much energy and water and soap they consume. The underlying design is brilliant in all of them.

I bought a Fisher and Paykel dryer less than six years ago and the major drum has already gone out. The dryer has not been used that much as I am a widow and hang my clothes out in nice weather. It will cost so much to replace it and it is also throwing little pieces of metal in lint trap. I will have to buy a new dryer and it will not be this brand. I am on very limited income and it is putting a hardship on me to have to replace. The reason I bought the set is it came highly rated. Will not recommend to anyone.

Fisher-Paykel WL4227J1 - We purchased this machine, new, on 9/24/14. The machine worked well for 2 weeks & then developed a loud hum in the pump during the drain cycle. Once I was able to get a technician here a week later, it was confirmed that the pump was defective & needed to be replaced under warranty. Now for the part that angers me... The repair shop called back & stated that it would be another week to get the part, as F/P ships from AZ & that it would take 5 business days to arrive... Seriously? So I called F/P direct & was told that it would be 3-5 business days as the part ships from Huntington Beach, CA. Or, I could contact the retailer I purchased the machine from & ask them to exchange it... but that they were under no obligation to do so. Hello... customer service. Fisher & Paykel should be OVERNIGHTING a new pump to my retailer... not the 3-5 business days they stated as it is a brand new machine. How do they expect me to clean my clothes for the past 5 days plus the next week? Down with Fisher & Paykel!

In 2019 we purchased a kitchen full of appliances; Cook Top, Over, Microwave, two drawer dishwasher, and large bottom draw with two top doors refrigerator/freezer. Quality issues: Microwave cover/front panel is cheap, loose, and I had to do some customization to get it to quit falling off. We like the two-drawer dishwasher, but found it constantly needs adjustments to keep the lower drawer from dragging on the floor, and almost always have to run a max clean setting or re-wash when drawers are full. Over so far is great. Cooktop is great, but the nobs squeak now after just 8 months of use. The refrigerator is our biggest issue… constantly makes excessive motor/fan noise, door/drawer trim constantly falls off, or jams up… Doors don’t align well, and don’t stay aligned.Service issues: The biggest joke ever! Tried for 8 months to get someone our here “AT MY COST even”, to give all these appliances a full re-build, inspection, and/or confirmation that they were installed/assembled correctly. CANNOT find anyone interested is servicing these units, and NO ONE at Fisher & Paykel is interested in finding me support of any kind… nor were the representatives from the appliance store I purchased the units from. Recommendation: - If considering High-End appliances buy THERMADOR, stay away from Fisher & Paykel

We had to go through the store that we bought it from. They were unsure of just how the service was going to be. They gave the names but I dont think they really knew what happens beyond that. Its a typical retailer, you get them on the phone; say you got some service problem and thats probably the last thing they want to hear. I like the brand. I would definitely recommend that particular product. As far as service wise, I think they have a long way to go in making people feel good about the service.

These units have been a problem from the beginning. I have the top load dryer. It got to the point to where the dealer could no longer help me. They even gave me a replacement after 2 years of ongoing problems. Now, the replacement is malfunctioning. I hate to say it, but these units are junk. I bought them because of reputation. But I will never ever recommend anyone buying them.

My friend’s husband is an engineer and told me they bought a Fisher & Paykel because her husband had done some research and said that they had the fewest moving parts of any washing machine. And fewer moving parts is a good thing. I needed a washing machine, so I bought one and that was four or five years ago, and I’m pleased with it. I just got the dryer in August and I already had to have a new heating element put in. I don’t know if it’s the dryer’s problem or if it’s my ductwork’s problem but the outside vent is getting clogged up and I never had that before. But that doesn’t seem like it could be the dryer’s problem and we haven’t figured out what it is because I don’t think there’s a lot of lint in the lint screen. And so I can’t understand how the lint can bypass the lint screen and go out the outside vent. They need to send a repairman. As far as how they look, they’re fine. In price, they’re all in the same ballpark. And as far as performance, I don’t know because I haven’t tried that many others. I used to be a Whirlpool customer and I had wonderful luck with Whirlpool. But then I bought an Amana washer and dryer in 2004 and I had to replace the washing machine with the Fisher & Paykel, and then I just replaced the dryer. The dryer issue hasn’t been resolved yet but we are quite pleased with our Fisher & Paykel washing machine.

Very disappointed in the top load dryer. My in-laws moved in with their dryer. This dryer has had service repairs two times in the first year they owned it. Now we are using it as well and the one-year warranty is up. They told us that the last time a service man came out, he showed them where the reset switch is. Apparently, every so often, the heat stops working, and the reset switch has to be reset. So it has been two months now, and I have had to reset the switch three times. This is just a ridiculously faulty product, and Im truly concerned; there is a fire hazard with some sort of electrical issue with this dryer. I am getting rid of it ASAP and going back to Maytag, which I might add, I had a Maytag washer for 10 years and a Maytag dryer for 15 years and never once had a repair to them. Now that is true quality.

I’ve had a Fisher & Paykel set since 1999. I don’t know about now but the dryer I have is actually made by GE (General Electric). As at that time they didn’t make dryers. I have never had a problem with the dryer. When I bought the set from an appliance dealer, they told me it was easy and inexpensive to work on the washer, and the dryer was a GE. I had to replace the control panel on the washer, around 10 years in as I think lightning hit it. It was plug and play. I put it on and the part was $80. I let one of those color Catcher sheets get into my pump, as I tried to save and cut one in half for a small load, that caused a problem. Had to get it removed by a repairman. I would never buy an appliance from Lowe’s or Home Depot. Actually only an appliance store that has service department. You may save a little, but you lose it quickly down the road. It seems odd that 7 people on here have complaints. Fisher & Payless is actually made in New Zealand. I haven’t needed to call in 10 years, but the last time I spoke to someone in New Zealand. I wanted a Maytag when I bought this set, but they are no longer in business. They were bought out by Whirlpool. Too many problems with their products. I try to buy top of the line.... My builder put GE Profile appliances in my house, and they have been fine since 1999. However I do take care of my things, and they take care of me. Something I was taught by my parents 50+ years ago....

I have owned my Fisher and Paykel Ecosmart Autowasher Model GWL15 since 2010. The first time, we had a problem with the spin cycle was August 2012 (past the 2 year warranty period). I paid $180 to have the pump replaced. The repairman said that this is a frequent problem with this brand of washers. Fast forward to today, April 6, 2014. The washer quit after the wash cycle again. I tried several times to reset it by unplugging it like the owners manual instructed, only to have NO results again. I had to take the clothes out and wring them out by hand. I then had to empty the washer by hand to prepare for the repairman to come AGAIN. I will never buy another Fisher and Paykel product, nor will I recommend Fisher and Paykel to anyone!! I have never had any appliance fail like this one has.

I just purchased a new Fisher & Paykel washer and dryer. This is my second pair. My previous set I placed in a rental and decided to get a new set for myself. I had few problems with my older units. I understand my older dryer was actually made by an American company with a Fisher & Paykel nameplate. The new Fisher & Paykel set is a big step backwards for this manufacturer. The new washing machine is noisy and clanks when washing. I don’t know the cause but am assuming it is due to the tub not having a center post in the middle. The control panel has changed too. I would much prefer to be able to just push warm soak or hot wash or cold rinse, rather than pick thru the heavy, bulk, sheet buttons to try and get the wash settings I want. Now, the new dryer is something else altogether! I have a service man coming out to check on the top of the new dryer. This will be his second time out. The top seems to get in the way of the rotating drum and goes boom, boom, and boom every time the dryer drum turns during drying. The tops are flimsy plastic. I have a feeling it warps after being heated when the dryer is on high or low heat or the tops are not properly designed. A top loading dryer was an interesting idea but just wasnt pulled off well. Just buy a front loading dryer. I also have bubbles behind control panel masking. I would suggest interested buyers go to Consumer Reports Magazine and read further evaluations of washer and dryers.

My granddaughter was getting married and moving into a home and needed a lot of help with outfitting it so I gave her my old washer and dryer. So then I went out to an appliance store looking for a new washer and dryer and found out about Fisher & Paykel. I had good recommendation from the owner who told me that’s what he had at his house so I chose to buy this brand and I’ve been very satisfied with my first F&P washer and dryer. Really, there are some things that are much better than the previous ones we’ve owned - I think that they spin water out more and the clothes are dryer when you take them out of the washer to put them in the dryer. They don’t have as much water in them so less dry time.

I bought a FP two-drawer dishwasher about 5 years ago. It cost me a small fortune! We had our cabinets custom made to fit the FP dishwasher. It has been nothing but problems since the moment we got it. Now, it is on its last legs. It constantly fills up with water and my husband has to take the drawers out and wet-vac it, then put a de-humidifier in front of it for at least 24hrs. Once it is finally dry, he has to go into the basement and turn the electricity back on (which he shuts off to do this whole drying process). Inevitably, after one or two cycles it fills with water again and starts beeping. The beeping does not stop until we shut the power off again in the basement. The process repeats endlessly. We have had repairmen look at it and they say they see it all the time and there is nothing they can do with FP products, they are just not made well. My mother has had the same cheap Sears dishwasher for almost 30 years! I would love to replace it but I resent the fact that I paid so much for it and it is junk. Plus, Im afraid I will have to buy the same one again since my cabinets were specially designed to fit that model and I am afraid I will have the same problems with a new one.

I purchased a Dish Drawer dishwasher for a kitchen remodel in 2008. I was lured by the fact there are two (2) independent washer units; one on top of the other which allowed flexibility in cleaning as well as potential addition kitchen utensil storage. Troubles began within the first 90-days. I have summoned kitchen appliance repair companies listed as authorized by Fisher Paykel numerous times with the last service attendant indicating there are serious design flaws with the appliance. At this date the following had been experienced: The bottom dishwasher unit is completely non-functional, the touch wash controls in the operating unit do not work correctly; and now are stuck in one washer cycle. I was informed by one of the techs that came out there is a design flaw that allows water to seep into the controls. For $1,500 for a dishwasher I would have expected more. What is more alarming is the sales rep when I bought the appliance indicated the manufacturer also made kidney dialysis machines. If this is the case (and my research indicates this is true) there are numerous fatalities if the quality of the dialysis machines is the same as the Dish Drawer. Do not under any circumstances purchase anything this Company makes. The quality is terrible!!!

I was renovating my apartment and so I was replacing everything. When I went in to the distributor to buy a refrigerator, the distributor showed me Fisher Paykel and I liked it. It seemed to have the features I wanted. It had the proper dimensions that I needed to fit in the kitchen and it was stainless steel. It seemed to be fine. The only objection I would have to it is they have a very strange design in so far as their water filter is concerned. I never would have bought the thing had I not been doing a major renovation because they mount the water filter outside the refrigerator. While all the other manufacturers, you just screw the filter in inside the refrigerator and youre done with it. But you need a plumber to put the thing together. And the plumber basically who put it in initially was not familiar with it, so he installed it incorrectly. I had to have him take it out and redo the installation. But its worked.I havent had it very long. Its fine for me right now. The longevity of the thing is going to be important because in the past few years, I have not had luck with refrigerators and they dont seem to last. So well see if this one lasts. I did, which I never had done before, take a long term contract out of the thing. Overall, I would give my friend the caveat that you may have an issue with needing a plumber to install the thing rather than just having the distributor come and install it because of that filter. In fact, the crazy thing is I have the refrigerator obviously in my kitchen, but the water filter is in my bathroom because you have to mount the filter very close to the source of water.

I went to Warners Stellian here in the Twin Cities. I asked what are my options for a 36-inch unit. I had no background on Fisher & Paykel. I got their 36-inch stove. It works, it heats up to temperature. The burners on top are a little bit more aggressive. I would have liked to have a different simmer burner than what I have on there but all things considered, I would give it a 9 out of 10. It is beautiful. I didnt buy it originally because of cost. Its truly a beautiful piece of equipment. I would definitely consider, its a beautiful artistic design and it looks absolutely stunning in my kitchen. It was nineteen years before I got a kitchen remodel and it is a beautiful piece.. Theres a glitch for some reason - if I start the burner on top, it can turn the oven off, I have to be real careful for that. Im not sure why, I should probably check into it. But this is what I like the best out of it and Ill be honest with you - the oven heats to temperature PERFECTLY. And I have such a respect for that because thats what its supposed to do. Thats why you buy an oven! That Whirlpool took an hour to heat to 300 and you have to set it. You dont have enough paper to write my comments on that one.

I purchased a Fisher Paykel Washer and Dryer in 2009. The washer has worked okay, except for two instances in which the pump wouldnt drain its water and investigation determined the pump had been obstructed by lint. The dryer is another issue altogether. The first problem came just over a year into owning this appliance. The bearing was deemed failed and it had to be replaced. The bearing is less than a year old and the dryer again sounds like bare metal grinding on bare metal. Now...the dryer had to be serviced for heating problems. Specifically, the dryer would run for hours without drying the clothes. It was determined that the lint sensor trips the heater to prevent fire...makes sense, but further investigation found that the fine mesh screen which serves as a filter has dry-rotted and failed, so lint quickly moves to the inside of the appliance and repeatedly triggers the safety mechanism.Question: Why should I have to take this unit apart every couple of days to clean it? The design is obviously flawed. Ive never done such a thing to the previous dryer I owned, nor have my parents...even when there were eight of us in the house. Sadly, I was given the entire song and dance about how wonderful these high priced, gilded turds would save me time and money. Nothing is further from the truth. While the appliance technician has been friendly and helpful (once I can get in touch with him), these appliances have been miserable to own. I share my house with four others and the laundry piles up quickly...not to mention the fact that the dryer is a fire waiting to happen. I had a Whirlpool standard dryer that was seven years old and I got rid of it when I bought these gems...it still worked. What was I thinking? Now the decision must be made...shell out a few hundred bucks for a poorly designed lint filter and service, or, look for an older standard dryer. Guess what...Goodbye Fisher Paykel! Note to others: Stay well clear of this high tech junk.

Should have come to this site before purchasing. Our first Smart Touch Dryer stopped heating within two months of purchase. The heat switch had failed and then burnt out!!! Didnt hear from the tech after he left so two weeks called as wondered what was happening. Told it would be up to six weeks before the part was manufactured overseas and shipped to Auckland, NZ. This is a New Zealand owned company but we no longer stock the parts!!! F & P rep could not explain why I hadnt heard from them or the tech until I called them. Man of the house insisted on a new machine. Second brand new machine has stopped heating after six weeks. Four towels in a new large 6kg machine resulted in no heat again and we are now waiting again for a tech to come. Have asked for a loan machine but told that F & P dont do this. Poor rep started to tell me that if they did, they would never have enough to go around but she quickly stopped as she realized what she was saying. Samsung do a loan machine with all of their repairs. Have asked the tech to bring the heat switch with him this time and a spare so that we can fix it ourselves when it goes again lol. First ever Fisher & Paykel appliance and will be the last. Pricing a Samsung today. FYI - Support Centre response is faster from F & P via Twitter as they would prefer no negative feedback on their site. Phone support was abysmal. Have had a Samsung washing machine for two years and never a problem. Samsung also have a two year warranty instead of F & Ps 12 months. Lesson learned in our household.

I cant express how upset I am that I paid the money for this set when the washer and dryer were under warranty; it probably should have just been replaced. The customer service always had some crazy solution or excuse! I will never recommend this brand to anyone. I would rather hand wash and dry my clothes than to have to listen to the loud, ridiculous noises that come from the washer and dryer. I dont understand how a company can sell something and not even bother to warranty or care about their product or their customers! Company failure!

We received a new dishwasher because there was a problem with the old machine. We had our machine for 6 or 7 years. We like Fisher & Paykel because of the two drawer dishwasher. We dont have to bend down to put the dishes and it was convenient for us.

18 YO oven has a broken door hinge, which we had repaired almost five years ago. It is broken again. Part is now discontinued. Oven was several thousand dollars. F&P includes being sustainably minded in its brand vision. Their online chat was full for days, through Messenger they have said oven has served good time. I agree its an older appliance, but their response was a giant turn-off. The first appliance repair person said the hinge is a known problem. Discontinuing production of a part thats a known problem is not being sustainably-minded.

We had to replace a fridge that was 11 years old and defective so we got a Fisher & Paykel. We certainly appreciate the ice-making system and the fact that it doesnt take up too much room from the refrigerator section, thats for the cold water. Compared to other makes, the other one seems to take up a lot of room, this one is just a small space in the door. And for the ice, its very reasonable. Thats the main thing. This is the first time that I have the French doors. You cannot pull the drawers, neither the fruit nor the meat drawers without opening both doors. So this is one thing that may not be the most efficient and this to me would be not totally negative.

I had a Fisher Paykel technician booked to fix our dishwasher. Once again had to take half a day off work to ensure we dont miss the call. For the second time in a row I get a text message to say, The technician is on their way and you can track their process, followed by an email 2 min later saying, Technician called and no one was home. The customer service supposedly cant get in touch with the technician and next available appointment is not for another 2 weeks. Our dishwasher has now been broken down for more than 2 months. I would never buy Fisher Paykel product again.

I bought my Fisher Paykel machine in 1999 (14 years). I never heard of it before but I did my research and then I went out to look at one. I have never been as pleased with any appliance I have ever purchased as I am with my washing machine. I bought it after my heavy duty Whirlpool motor burned out after 4 years. It has everything I could ask for in a washing machine. The wool cycle is great for todays new wools. I have never had it repaired for any reason. When it got out of balance the first time, I used the service summary and put it back in balance myself and have been fixing it myself ever since. Its easy to do and a lot less costly than calling up a repairman. It works! Thank you, Fisher Paykel. My machine is still running great!

I was quite surprised to read the negative comments about Fisher Paykel! After being a brand loyal kind of gal, everything I owned appliance wise was Maytag. After my Maytag dishwasher, washer and dryer broke down 4 times in a year. I decided it was time for a change. I went to my local appliance store and was just about to purchase a new washer/dryer when the salesman tried to sell me an FP. I had never heard of FP before. The salesman made quite the pitch. When I continued to shy away, finally he told me if I tried the units and didnt like them, within 60 days he would exchange both units. Okay, I gave it a shot. I love my FP washer/dryer so much I bought their double drawer dishwasher. I had to call for service once for the dryer and once for the dishwasher. Both were relatively simple problems that were fixed within 20 minutes of the serviceman entering my house. I would have to say I highly recommend Fisher Paykel.
