If you regularly broil high-fat foods like steaks or bake foods like pizzas, grease can potentially splatter on the roof and sidewalls of the oven and food debris can fall on the floor. If you don't clean these remains while they are still wet, they can harden, leaving your oven susceptible to burning, emitting smoke.
Run Short Self-Clean Cycles
When smoke comes from your oven only during self-clean cycles, it's usually caused by food being incinerated under the excessive heat of the cycle. When this happens, turn off the oven and let it cool completely, then wipe away food residue from the interior with a water-dampened rag and start the cycle all over again. Do it at the shortest possible duration to prevent an excessive heat buildup.
