How much does it cost to heat a pool
Posted On: January 10, 2022

Owning a pool comes with many expenses, and one of those expenses is heating. The cost of heating your pool will depend on where you live, how warm you like it, and how often the heater is running. The type of heater also will factor into the heating costs.

The comfortable swimming temperature ranges from 78 to 82 °F.

There are three standard heaters: gas, electric heat pump, and solar. Each of these heaters will heat the pool but in different ways. Gas heaters use natural gas or propane, and because of this, the water will warm up faster than the other heaters.

Gas heaters are cheap to purchase but cost more to operate in the long run. So if you're not going to use your pool very often, keep it off until you go for a swim.

The estimated cost to run a gas heater ranges from $1000 to $2000. But if you can lower these costs if you use a pool cover.

Electric heat pumps use less power than their gas counterparts. They work by pulling the warm air into the heater, which warms the water that was drawn from the pool. That warm water is then put back into the pool.

Since these heaters use warm air to heat the pool water, they are best for warmer climates. Electric heat pumps are costly to purchase but are cheaper to run. They are best for pool owners who will use their pool often.

The cost to heat a pool with an electric heat pump can range from $972 to $1220. Using a pool cover can lower the heating cost from $100 to $200.

Solar pool heaters use the sun's power to operate and can be costly to purchase but are the most cost-efficient of the heaters. The cost to heat the pool using a solar heater depends on the size of the pool.

Geothermal, which uses a series of natural gases and pipes underground and into a heat pump, is another way to heat your pool. This type of heating is relatively new, but it can be quite expensive to install.
