What to look for when buying a new dishwasher
Posted On: September 28, 2021

Are you looking to replace your old, outdated dishwasher? With several brands on the market, each equipped with several functions, choosing which one works best for your household can be challenging. Here are a few things you should look for before purchasing a new dishwasher.

  1. Type: There are two types of dishwashers to look out for, built-in and portable. Each of these has its benefits. With a built-in dishwasher, you don't have to worry about hook-ups to your kitchen faucet, and you can just turn the unit on and go. Whereas a portable one, you need to be around when the cycle finishes so you can turn the water off. However, the good thing about portable dishwashers is you can take them with you if you move.
  2. Size: The size of the unit all depends on how large your household is. The bigger your family is, the larger dishwasher you will need.
  3. Body: It may not seem like much, but the type of material your dishwasher is made of can be important. Stainless steel appliances have become widely popular because of their durability, resistance to rust, stains, and high temperatures. They are also aesthetically pleasing, and the downside is they tend to be a little more expensive than their plastic-made counterparts.
  4. Cycle options: Higher-end dishwashers come with several different wash options, with some having up to eight cycle options. Some of them include quick wash, heavy-duty, normal, delay, rinse only, and more. There are even models that offer a sanitize option.
  5. Other features: A few other features you want to look out for are adjustable and removable racks, self-cleaning filter options, child locks, and anti-flood valves. It's also essential to purchase a dishwasher from a brand that offers an extended warranty. Some brands provide a warranty that lasts from two to five years. Warranties are essential because you won't be spending too much money on repairs if anything goes wrong with the unit within that time.

Like any appliance in your home, it's always important to regularly maintain your dishwasher to keep it running smoothly. You can purchase a cleaning agent that can be added to a wash cycle, so you can clean your machine as it's cleaning your dishes.
