How to Buy a Washer
Posted On: November 28, 2020

Nobody likes dirty laundry, but buying a new and reliable washing machine can help ease your conscience. Of course, this is easier said than done. What kind of washing machine is best suited for you? Today we’re going to help you find the best appliance that matches your budget and needs.

Price Tag
Washers usually sell for around $275 to $2,500, depending on the model’s type, capacity, and features. Doing laundry may seem like a mundane task, but the washer aisle is anything but boring. You’ll see multitasking machines that allow you to mash two different loads at once, all-in-one front loaders that go straight into dryer mode, and many more. Of course, more features means a bigger price tag.

Watch Your Space
The type of washer you plan on getting should depend largely on the amount of space you have available in your home. For example, your laundry might be allocated to a narrow closet down the hall, making your only option a stackable washer and dry set. These units tend to be smaller, convenient for limited spaces. Compact dryers are also designed for limited spaces. They’re available as gas or electric, a decision which should be based off what you’re house supports.

Size
Standard washers are usually 27 to 27.5 inches wide, having a capacity anywhere from 3.1 to 6.2 cubic feet. The amount of laundry they hold depends on the style. A front-load washer will handle more clothes and bulky items, like comforters, than top-loaders with agitators. On average, you’ll be able to fit between 5 and 10 pounds of clothes at one time. Compact machines are typically 24 inches wide and have up to 3.0 cubic feet of capacity, although they’re often closer to 2.2 or 2.4 cubic feet. You should be able to fit 4 to 8 pounds of clothes in their drums.

When to Buy?
Found your dream model? Now you just need to know where to buy it. September or October are the best times to get deals since that’s when new models arrive at stores. You might even want to save money by purchasing a “set” from the same manufacturer. Do your research, if you buy them separately, it might end up being the same price as the combo deal. You don’t have to get a washer and dryer from the same manufacturer, mixing them up is fine. Just be sure whoever services your appliances can handle both brands.
