Gunk on dryer vent cover - how to fix or replace?
Posted On: March 20, 2023

New pair of pants came out of the dryer with spots all over them after a quick solo dewrinkling cycle. Noticed this green gunk on the back panel of the dryer and assuming that is the cause.

I've tried soap, brasso and a steel brush to remove it but nothing has worked. It seems to be plastic or something else dried onto the metal.

Does anyone know the name of this part and if it's possible to replace? Google hasn't been helpful.

Question from user whataboutheboattimes at Appliances at reddit.com.

Answer:

Based on your description, it sounds like the green gunk on the back panel of your dryer could be a melted piece of plastic or some other material that got stuck to the metal during a previous drying cycle. If this is the case, it's possible that the material melted and fused onto the metal, making it difficult to remove.

In terms of replacing the part, it's hard to say without more information about your specific dryer model and the part in question. Your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer or a professional appliance repair service for assistance. They may be able to identify the part and determine if it can be replaced.

In the meantime, to prevent further damage to your clothes, it's best to avoid using the dewrinkling cycle until the issue with the dryer is resolved.
