Rheem Heat Pump Model RP17 Error Codes

Rheem heat pumps may use error codes to help diagnose and troubleshoot issues. The specific error codes can vary depending on the model and type of your Rheem heat pump. It's crucial to refer to your heat pump's user manual or technical documentation for accurate information about error codes.

Here are some general Rheem heat pump error codes and their potential meanings. Keep in mind that these are generic examples, and your specific model may have different codes:

P: High-Pressure Switch Open (HP) - Indicates a high-pressure condition that may require attention. This could be due to issues such as a refrigerant overcharge, blocked condenser coil, or a faulty high-pressure switch.

LP: Low-Pressure Switch Open (LP) - Indicates a low-pressure condition that may be caused by issues such as low refrigerant levels, a refrigerant leak, or a faulty low-pressure switch.

F: Defrost Control (DFC) - Indicates a problem with the defrost control. This could be related to issues with the defrost thermostat, defrost control board, or sensors.

H: High-Pressure Sensor Fault (HPF) - Indicates a fault with the high-pressure sensor. This could be caused by issues such as a malfunctioning sensor or a high-pressure condition.

L: Low-Pressure Sensor Fault (LPF) - Indicates a fault with the low-pressure sensor. This could be caused by issues such as a malfunctioning sensor or a low-pressure condition.

C: Open Circuit or Sensor Fault (OSF) - Indicates an open circuit or sensor fault. This could be related to various sensors within the heat pump.

Other Codes: There may be other codes specific to your model, and their meanings will be outlined in the user manual.

Always refer to your specific model's documentation for accurate information about error codes and their meanings. If you encounter an error code on your Rheem heat pump, it's advisable to consult the user manual first. The manual typically includes a troubleshooting guide that may provide steps to address common issues associated with specific error codes. If you're unable to resolve the problem or if the issue persists, it's recommended to contact Rheem customer support or a qualified HVAC technician for assistance. Purchased a Rheem 3.5 ton 15 SEER split heat pump system in January 2014. Because of all the problems with the unit right after installation the outside unit was replaced March 2014. Weve had constant service calls for the unit not cooling, abnormal loud noises when the unit comes on, wires touching that disabled the system, coils leaking in the inside unit which called for replacement. We were promised in 2014 that a Rheem rep would come out and that didnt happen until March of 2015. I have a service technician here right now because the unit decided to quit cooling yesterday. I wouldnt recommend this unit to anyone, even my worst enemy. The Rheem rep in my area, Sleeping Giant in Childersburg AL, doesnt care about service after the sale but Ill save that for another review.

My 2 year old motor on top of my condenser failed. It cost me 399.00 for labor. The manager of the company told me that the motors are often failing. They overheat and fail. I called Rheem, and was told the supplier’s representative could help. The manager told me they have tried with no success. He told me that they no longer recommend Rheem. I thought they were the best. I am extremely disappointed. There needs to be another class action suit, like there is against Rheem for their faulty aluminum condensers.

I just acquired a new hot water heater and wanted to learn more about preve
I just acquired a new hot water heater and wanted to learn more about preventative maintenance needed to prolong its useful life. One agent was helping me with ensuring warranty dates are accurate as their records show warranty start date as date of manufacture. Date of install is 5 months later.. They have a website for registration but that did not help update their warranty records. He told me to use their website again. I told him I already did that and nothing changed. Then, he said all I had to do reply to his email with copies of invoices and extended warranty info and all will be taken care of. A day later, nothing. So I called back and somebody else says she will look into it, update records and EMAILl me a screenshot to show it is done. No email received but warranty record was updated to correct start at date of install but did not include extended warranty date of additional 4 years. So now I have to call them back regarding this. Why is it so hard?In addition, I wanted to buy extra anode rods (secondary, connected to HOT WATER Side) so that I have them readily available 5 years or so from now. That seems to be a VERY complicated process. Always requires Serial number which is totally irrelevant. All manufacturers anode rods are universal. Difference is length of rod, length of nipple (for those that are installed in the HOT WATER side of the tank) and material composition. After half a dozen emails back and forth, still no info as to how I can get the anode rod needed. I even gave them part numbers and they told me to contact another department as the department I contacted do not handle customer service inquiries, just website related. HUH???Another customer service rep emailed me instruction on how to maintain as well as user manual. I thanked him for it, asked him more questions, and.... NO RESPONSE since then.. A couple of follow up emails and still no. WHY? Frankly, I worry about the service I will be getting from this company when something really wrong happens.. I may have made a mistake buying their stuff. Their A/C unit is outstanding. Water heater is another story as I had problems with inaccurate thermostat BUT, to their credit a new thermostat was immediately sent and that fixed my problem. I worry what else will go wrong and the runaround I will get. Caveat Emptor !!!

Four years in, the Rheem Prestige heat/air/heat pump we purchased has been an incredible headache. A dozen service calls and no solution. 5 ton unit will not adequately cool/dehumidify a 5,000 sq ft house. Spent $13k for this system and had to spend a lot more for a whole house dehumidifier. The heat pump has repeatedly shook/vibrated when not on emergency heat. The shaking was at times SEVERE. Now the piece of junk has lost its refrigerant. I am done trying to fix it. While the dealer did his very best, nothing has ever been fixed on this thing. Never, ever will I buy anything from Rheem again. Every aspect of this ownership experience has been god-awful. Stay as far away as you can from Rheem.

Rheem purchased 10/2014. First call started Spring 2015. Pilot light kept going out. Get up to go to work - cold water. Called Rheem warranty number which by the way are the most dismissive, unfriendly and disrespectful customer service employees l have ever spoken with. Their CEO and CFO should really try using their customer service department. My first call the employee said it must be dust or dirt. l ask why this never happened to my old less expensive water unit - no answer. Months later same pilot problem - doesnt stay lit. Second call girl tells me it cant be the unit. l must have a gas leak or something about cubic feet of air in my garage. She told me l would need to call my local Pacific Gas and Electric Company which l did. Everything was good . NO GAS LEAKS and heater was in a space off the ground, with plenty of cubic ft. Third call l get a male employee. By now my unit is going out 2-3 times a week. He was the rudest one yet. They are sending me a new pilot ignition part, still not received. However even under warranty, its up to me to find a contracted Rheem plumber. They couldnt even recommend someone to call. l ended up calling Home Depot which gave me a local number. If l was a buyer for Home Depot l would stop all purchases of any Rheem water heaters from my own experience along with all these other reviews. Home Depot is too respected of a company to sell this poorly made product, with employees who could care less about your customers. I bought a Rheem furnace 2 stage variable speed and A/C unit. It was installed in summer. In winter, I noticed that furnace kicks in directly in the second stage and never works in the first stage. It is too noisy and heat variations are high. I tried for 3 months to determine the contractor to come and fix the issue. It was not an emergency, but the unit was under warranty and did not do what was supposed to do. After 3 months, the contractor comes and tries to call the dealer in order to get support from them as the contractor did not know what to do (despite the fact it seems a very simple setting). I took 2 days off, and every day the contractor cannot reach the dealers technician despite the fact that this was scheduled in advance. I was frustrated and tried to send a complaint directly to Rheem. I filled in their contact form (there is no way to contact them via phone) and wrote a long note venting my frustration and bad experience with the whole chain. And at the end, when I tried to submit, it didnt go through. I tried 6 times and every time, it failed without telling me what the error is. So in the end, there is no one to contact at Rheem to explain the situation, and how the dealer and the contractor and possibly the quality of their product affect their reputation. In the end, I am a very unhappy Rheem customer, and I would never ever recommend someone to buy a Rheem product due to the overall experience I had with all 3 entities involved (producer/dealer and contractor).

I had a Rheem HVAC unit with a motor burned out during a HOT Summer in Alabama a few days ago. The local Distributor did not honor my warranty due to the fact that my problem comes up after the Unit installation date; but, it was within my warranty registration date. I called Rheem warranty department and was fortunate to speak to a lovely lady named Michelle. She took times listened to my explanation and willing to work and help me with the warranty part. The authorized Rheem technician was able to help restore the HVAC unit to its operations. I wanted to thanks Michelle personally and thanks Rheem manufacturing department for going the extra mile to listen and review my case. With this type of professional service, I am rest assure to continue to buy Rheem products for my future need. Again, thank you very much.

We bought ten of the direct vent models for our 10 apartments and they turned out to be the worst nightmare we got into. Everyone has failed either with hard lockout or leaking at the drain valve. Their technical support is always looking to deflect the fault to installation, venting or something else. Their use a plastic pipe for drain valve which cracks and leaks. We was on the phone every other day to asked for support. Some of the techs came to their sense and request brass drain valves, many of them just insisted on sending the same plastic valve again. They never tested these drain valves. Everyone has a hairline crack which leaks out water making a mess. Every time this happens, it takes them a couple of days to send replacement. After I gave a scathing review on their website, they quit talking to me. I now pledge to make sure consumers do not buy these direct vent heaters again from Rheem. Please avoid at all costs!

We have had nothing but problems with our Rheem tankless hot water heater.
We have had nothing but problems with our Rheem tankless hot water heater. Right now at this moment we are without hot water and have been so for almost 2 weeks now. Our unit is under warranty and needs to be replaced. Rheem did send us the vent kit, but no heater. We have called customer service. The first two ladies we spoke to were nice then we were transferred to another lady that was quite rude and absolutely no help at all. She told us that we need to contact the parts service department, our problem isnt HER problem. On the phone for hours with no results. Our plumber is at his wits end dealing with this company. We were told to go to Menards and purchase a new heater ourselves and Rheem would reimburse us for the cost. Yeah right! Rheem needs to send the unit, because I do not trust that they will reimburse us after all the trouble we have had getting anything out of them. We are still under warranty! We have company coming for Thanksgiving and no hot water! Im snapping and so sorry we ever went with Rheem. We are so disappointed in this company and the way they treat their customers. My advice to anyone considering a tankless, DO NOT BUY ONE FROM RHEEM!!!

Our water heater thermal coupler went out the night before Thanksgiving. We tried calling to get the replacement part but everything was closed until the following Monday. We called the tech support and the customer service said that he has been doing his job for so many years and it was not the thermal coupler and said it was the gas control unit. We took his word since he said he was the expert. We paid to have it expedited for next day. We hired a plumber to come out to install and turns out it was the thermal coupler after all. I paid for the plumber for the service call. I called Rheem and after over an hour waiting was finally able to talk to the manager and he agreed to refund the expedited delivery charge. Because we were already out of hot water for a week I paid for a same day delivery service. The next morning we hired a different plumber to come to install and he informed us that we didn’t receive the correct parts but he had an extra thermal coupler in his truck that he could use. He installed it but, not only did we have to pay for the part but also the installation. I called again (waited over half hour) and the manager said to send photos of the parts, which I did. He sent an email for me to call to discuss.Again, waited on the line only to be put through to someone else, went through the whole story again only for them to tell me I had to speak to another manager. Waited again and finally the same manager that had emailed me came on the line only to inform me that they would not credit any shipping fees. I offered to compromise and pay for the same day service but he refused, was condescending and not willing to help at all. I highly recommend you stay away from any RHEEM water heater products. Both plumbers that came said that they are the worst to deal with.

Bought a hot water tank Feb 2018. 5 days later it went out! Water leaks no hot water! Called customer service and they said, Maybe get you someone tomorrow? I cant afford to pay again to have their faulty water tank replaced? And why should I? It was ONLY 4-5 days old? Yet customer service said maybe tomorrow??? So I called again the c/s department to check if someone would be coming Wed Feb. 14th. The man Mike was very rude. I asked if he could see if someone would be coming to repair my water heater? He asked for model # on heater which I didnt have. I was calling from work on my lunch break. Then was told maybe he could get it under my name? Ok good idea.He found a Mr. Build repair person listed and should call me tomorrow. I ask Mike, Will I get this issue fixed by tomorrow? The tech. makes the decision? O.k? Yet will it be fixed tomorrow? Mike said, I DONT KNOW! Either he orders parts or if 2 people are need to replace the tank he would have to get someone? I was in shock not just by the tone of this mans voice of being irritated yet that a company LIKE Rheem cant take care of the issue in a timely and professional manner. We should go without hot water for 3 days or more on a hot water tank bought through HOME DEPOT 4-5 days earlier? Still under warranty (90 days). And inconvenience us for product failure? And pay another $300.00 plus to have it installed???Then I tried to return technician call. Left at 3:45 pm to my home? I call the technician... Not only that night after getting home from work at 7 pm leaving a message I also called the technician at 8 am Wed morning and at 9:30 am both leaving messages no real person guarantying they would return a call. And still here at 10:15 am. NO return call to confirm. They would be here between 4 pm and 7 pm. NOW still wondering will we have HOT water tonight??? Happy Valentines DAY right.

I have a small apartment building that was serviced by a 40 gal water heater for over 10 years without one problem. In the last 2 years I bought a 40 gal Rheem water heater and it failed. I was told it was too small, so I purchased a 50 gal Rheem water heater which failed in 6 months. They sent me parts and it failed 2 additional times. Each time requiring a whole new boiler, valve, and thermostat assembly. My question is how did one 40 gal last 10 years and I can’t get 3 years out of a water heater with new technology and a larger capacity? My calls to Rheem were in excess of 30 minute wait times and 20 + callers ahead of me. Another bad sign!

I purchase my unit in 2013 and have had trouble with it ever since. The heat works fine, but the a/c does not work for an entire season. When it was first installed it would not stay on because of the water sensor. I had to reset the sensor multiple times, until they finally replaced it. Turned the unit on in 2014 and it didnt come on. They had to come out three times that summer. Now its 2015 and again the unit would not come on. They got it running. A month later it is frozen up because it is leaking. They put in a sealant and now another month later it is leaking again. They refuse to replace it and just keep wasting my time fixing it.

I purchased a 50 gallon Rheem Performance Hot water heater from Home Depot a few years ago. Right before Christmas the digital control panel went out. I searched the internet and found out there is a recall on them. I called Rheem customer service and had to wait on hold for at least 30 minutes to talk to a representative. The representative was helpful and sent me the necessary paperwork to fill out. They authorized the repair to be up to $250.00. I had to call Mac Plumbing and the part was delivered and installed on Christmas Eve. So appreciative to get hot water back.I sent all necessary papers to Rheem for the reimbursement right away along with the proof of payment. Rheem never confirmed they received the necessary information. I called Rheem customer service to verify they received the necessary paperwork to process the form. I spent at least 45 minutes on hold. I talk to the representative and he verified they have the necessary paperwork. Then I got disconnected. It is Feb 18th and I have not received the reimbursement of $249.00 they authorized to get the recall repairs complete. I am totally disappointed with Rheems customer service. It is unsatisfactory!

Our experience is exactly the same. So what can we all do. We are about to replace the coil (aluminum versus copper, our HVAC serviceman says will make the difference). He is not 100% sure the problem is there since the leak is very small. To really check will cost about 600 for a nitrogen test. So at this point we are down $300 for visit and freon replacement and potentially down another $600 to replace the second coil. Our unit like the rest is 2012 with problems in 2014 and now.

Consumer Affairs is obviously an unreliable source rating this product at over four stars with nothing but one star reviews as far as the eye can see. I’ve been doing plumbing for 15 years. I will never install one of these pieces of junk ever again. Don’t waste your money. This is the fifth heater I’ve been stored and had trouble with within two years from Rheem. Their product is junk. They made water heaters in the 1980s-90s that not only operate better than the 2021 models but can outlive their life by 10 years plus. Don’t be scammed by Rheem. They make these things to break so they can make more money off of you. Also don’t be scammed by this unreliable source that cost their self consumer affairs who obviously does not care about the consumer. Read the reviews consumer reports. Where the ** do you get your information. Apparently whoever works at this consumer affairs place can’t count 4.8 stars and nothing but one star reviews you can read them for days. Purchased a new Furnace and Air Conditioner in 2013 and have had nothing but problems. In 2017 the air conditioner was leaking gas and needed a new evaporation coil. At first we were told that the coil was not covered under warranty but after some investigation on our part we figured out that it was indeed covered, however we had labour cost of over one thousand dollars. This year during a bad cold snap the furnace broke down and needed a new blower. The blower had to be ordered from the States which took 2 weeks to arrive. The blower is not covered by warranty so we were on the hook for the labour as well which was again well over one thousand dollars. Now 2 months later the furnace has stopped working once again and it appears to be the same issue so it’s a cold waiting game until after the weekend to find out what’s wrong this time. Honestly unless you have an unlimited budget for repairs I would stay well away from this product!

For those who do not like to read long reviews, all I can say is that I cannot be more disappointed than I am with Rheem. Simply DO NOT buy a Rheem product, unless you like dealing with a product of marginal quality, and a customer support team that is beyond incompetent. Early in 2017 our 40 gal water heater needed to be replaced. We went to a local store and found a nice Rheem (or so we thought) gas water heater. Had it installed professionally, good to go. Soon after installation, every time the burner lit, there would be a loud bang of a small gas explosion. We called Rheem, and they said they ...have no technicians in the area, call a local plumber to look at it and well reimburse you. OK. We did as directed. The plumber came over and suggested a complete replacement of the burner assembly. Rheem declined, and sent only a small part. It didnt fix the problem. Another call to Rheem. And another. And another, with repeated visits by the plumber. Finally, after three months of back-and-forth, Rheem sent a full burner assembly. It fixed the problem. We then read the instructions on how to get reimbursed. It was quite complicated, and required all sorts of paperwork, including a W-9 from the plumber (even though Rheem must have had records of all calls and directions). I submitted the paperwork via email. I waited. And waited. No acknowledgment of receipt of paperwork. I called Rheem. After being put on hold for 1/2 hour, I finally talked to a representative. They claim that my reimbursement had never arrived (this is email, folks, if it doesnt arrive, you get a bounce-back message). I patiently resubmitted the paperwork via email. And waited. And waited. I called again 2 months later. By this time the fun had dragged on for 5 months. The rep said that the paperwork had been received, but that it was under review and a decision would be made whether or not to refund within 6 weeks. Six weeks passed. No check. The clock is now at 6 1/2 months in this story. At about 8 weeks, I tried calling again. The customer service option when calling Rheem was disconnected. I tried calling the contractor line, but they would not talk to me unless I had a contractor license number. I told them that the residential customer line was disconnected, and they babbled something about a technical problem. Right. Sure... I went to the plumber and asked for assistance. They called the contractor line, spoke to someone, and that person said the check would be sent immediately, and that there had been a problem with the paperwork I had sent (they had never told me this). When the plumber asked what the problem was, the Rheem representative couldnt be specific. At this point I was getting ready to go to small claims court. Three weeks after the plumbers call, the check finally arrived. Ive deposited it, and, based on historical activities, have my fingers crossed that it doesnt bounce. In the end, Rheem reimbursed us over $600 for repairs to an $800 water heater. If they had just authorized the full burner assembly requested at the first call, it would have been closer to $150. I have dealt with terrible customer service in my past, but this is a new low. And sadly, from what I understand, this is a more common occurrence than any decent company should allow. DO NOT BUY RHEEM!! By the way, the technical issue with the residential customer service line is still on-going, 4 weeks after I first encountered it. Pathetic.

We had to replace a gas valve within a year - it was $340. The water heater alone was about $380. We took good care of the water heater. There is no reason it should have went out. I called the 1800 number on the water heater (under it - it says not to remove or try to return it). The 800 number says it doesn’t exist or something along that line. I went into Menards and they told me Rheem now is who to call - even though it says Richmond - I called and was put on hold for warranties for hours - about 4 hours then I was told to fill out some forms - they would send them through email. I asked to wait on the phone until the emails come though I didn’t want to wait on hold again —- I was assured they would come in 10 minutes —— I waited 4 hours. The forms never came through - I called again. Was on hold a couple of hours once again to be told by the representative that the other representative never actually sent the forms - I told him, I’m not letting you go until you get me the forms - he acted extremely annoyed with me - they came through. It took forever. NOW I have no clue what will happen next - the process of a warranty sucks - sitting on hold forever sucks.... The whole experience is a night mirror - a water heater should last longer than 1 year. So pathetic. Their products should be recalled.

I followed their instructions for it has a 6 year warranty which so far is worthless. For 2 weeks all I get is busy signal when I call the number they provided. They provide no other way to lodge a trouble ticket or complaint. I will NEVER buy on their products again.

Installed AC in September 2012. I am now in need of a fourth reversing value. Total cost less current charges $2000. Local representative has recommended replacement of outside unit at no cost. But I would need to purchase air handler in attic. When I questioned this he stated they only come as a package. Called Rheem warranty department. They confirmed they only came as a complete system and I would need to purchase the replacement air handler. I questioned that logic as since the original outdoor unit was being replaced due to a problem the attic unit should be replaced at no cost. The system has been down since the first week of July 2018. Have made several follow up calls to no avail. Stay away!

Had this furnace 5.5 years. (RGPE07EAMKR 2 stage). Worked OK the first 5 years. At year 3 years, had to replace Pressure Switch Assembly. Even though under warranty, it still cost me $300. Just after the 5 year warranty expired, the furnace acted up and was not heating properly. Does not to Stage 2 level. And struggles to get above 70-71. After spending $700!! And had 2 techs spend a total of 6 hours on it - IT IS STILL NOT HEATING PROPERLY!!! And it is now recommended I spend another $200-$300 to TRY to get it working properly. (There is no guarantee this advice will solve the problem). I might as well throw it out and start over! I would NEVER BUY RHEEM AGAIN. :-(

We bought a new Rheem heat pump and air handler. 2 months after the 12 month warranty expired we had to have the unit recharged and again 13 months later. We are responsible for the recharge costs along with the labor cost to replace the faulty coil. Rheem knows this is a faulty coil but will not cover the labor. Also the coil in the air handler is leaking and I am concerned about the dangers of my family breathing this for 2 years. Rheem said they didnt think there was reason to worry. This system has been a disappointment from the start and I want everyone to know what a poor quality product this company makes. Dont waste your money on this product from a company that doesnt care after the sale.

Purchased a brand new Rheem hot water heater from Home Depot in 2018 and right out of the box it was DOA. It says right on the side of the heater to not return it to the place of purchase but rather to call Rheem customer service (which is the worst customer service). Three days later (without hot water) I received a replacement controller. $225 later a plumber installed it and it still would not work. Two more calls to Rheem (they called themselves Rheem because they ream you) and they ship a replacement pilot light kit. $180 for a plumber to install and after many attempts it lights and heats. Works great for a couple months and then the pilot light goes out. Many attempts later and another $120 visit by a plumber they fix it and it now works for close to a year before the pilot light goes out again. Call the plumber and $120 he resolves the issue after three more days of waiting for the part. Works this time for a year and now two and a half years after purchase it dies again. Three days without hot water and multiple calls to Rheem (ream) and they are shipping a replacement part (oh by the way if you want expedited shipping that costs $30 but it still takes two days). I finally got done. It is not worth the hassle of dealing with this company and their garbage product so I am replacing this piece of crap with an AO Smith. The sad thing is that two plumbing companies told me not to purchase Rheem and I did because they had the better warranty. Well the warranty is useless if your only option is two wait for three days for the part and then you still have to pay the plumber to install it. Note to self. Find a reputable plumber, buy the brand they recommend and install and never buy Rheem.

Previous water heater was leaking. Contracted plumbing company to have water heater replaced. They recommended Rheem Water Heater (Model # 22V40FN). Installation Date: 02/17/2012. Paid $850.00. 12/7/2013 - Thermocouple had to be replaced. Part was covered, paid for labor $175.00. 04/24/2014 - No hot water again... Plumbers came out, re-lit pilot light, paid labor $75.00. They said nothing is wrong with unit and to contact PG& E to do safety check. PG&E came out and found nothing wrong with the areas surrounding the water heater. They checked the pilot light and said it would go out again. Problem with water heater itself. Contacted plumber again and they dont know what the problem is. 05/09/14 - No hot water again. Contacted a couple of different plumbers but they refused to work on Rheem products. Contacted Rheem Technical Support and they gave me telephone numbers for two plumbers that were in my area. 1st one said they will charge a service fee of $110.00 just to come out and second one didnt return phone call. Will never ever buy a Rheem product again.

I bought a Rheem gas hot water tank in middle of November 2020 and by mid June the pilot and burner stopped working. Called and waited on the phone for about an hour to get warranty and they shipped parts took about a week but they didn’t have a technician so I paid $350 for a company to come replace the parts. The parts worked for about month and now again I’m out of hot water and still waiting for them to refund the money I spent because they didn’t have a technician even though parts and labor were both under warranty. After 2 hours on the phone again they are sending someone in 10 days that is out of state to come look at the tank. After talking to a few other people who purchased Rheem products I would not recommend as they all had the same problems. In the 9 months I’ve owned the hot water tank I have been out of hot water for a month, missed work to wait on a plumber, spent $350 out of my own pocket, and lost hours on the phone. Plus after complaining and contacting them multiple times I am now getting emails saying they would only refund $250 and then an email the day after saying only $150 which are both contradictory of what they said. They do not care about products quality or show any care for their customers. Highly recommend going somewhere else for all products especially hot water tanks.

I purchased Rheem water heater in May 2017 form Home Depot. After installation it didnt heat water in 24 Hrs. $350 paid to plumber. Then go back again to HD and buy another one which also after another $350 installation stopped working after a day. Plumber has no clue how to debug this as the unit is completely closed, no way to see if even pilot light is on. It has 5 LEDs but the code can be deciphered into many different things that could be wrong. Then my property manager cleaned the blower and it worked again for 15 months. It seems just by sitting in Home Depot it collects dust in the blower. Then when it stops to run again after 15 months, I get another supposedly Rheem certified plumber to debug it and pay $195 to basically get bad reviews of Rheem and no real debug information. I call Rheem many times and get a part shipped by them which again after calling the plumber and paying $200 doesnt work. I then start to debug it myself with tech support and this time they want to send me blower. By now 5 days have gone by with tech support, Fed Ex shipment, etc. But they miss sending me the blower and I lose one more day. By now I have lost over $700 dollars on plumbers for this Rheem water heater. I call the tech support, give them piece of my mind and of course she has no empathy for me and escalates the call. The customer support manager is very well trained (A+), listens to my frustration, empathize with me, apologizes and reacts right away by authorizing a return to HD. So, I go to HD and after spending another 1.5 Hrs I could return it with help of a plumber (spend money again on the plumber). But I did get back full refund of $965 + Tax for the water heater in Home Depot store credit (not the best option but better than nothing). I am overall very unhappy with Rheems quality but I doubt if any other brand is any better. It seems A. O. Smith is also as bad. I have taken a leap of faith now on Bradford White as thats what my plumber sells and installs. So, basically I am out about $1100 dollar for choosing Rheem (2 installations, 2 repair visits) plus so much grief and days without hot water.

What happened to the Rheem quality that I grew up with. This unit is only 3 years old and began leaking at the base below the lower T-Stat. It caused severe water damage to the interior of my unit. My plumber shared that the quality control on the assembly line is poorly managed. Examples of units that have failed revealed only partial interior glass lining which instantly began rusting and a thinner gauge of metal used to build the tanks.

Our hot water heater went out and our plumber installed a new one. It would not continuously heat water. Got it traded out for another. Same Problem. For 2 months now, I have to go clear down stairs and reset the system for it to heat water. Now Rheem authorized another plumber to come out and diagnose the issue. The new plumber is saying we need to rip out our 2 inch vent pipe and put in 3 inch vent pipe. I needed to purchase a new natural gas water heater because my Rheem / Rudd brand started leaking. It was installed in 1992 so I figured I couldnt go wrong buying another Rheem. Bought it at the big box store, took it home and had it installed within an hour. I tried to start it up using the easy start system, but the pilot would not stay lit. They idiot proof these new water heaters so you cant actually access anything or complete any kind of small repair. All over the box, the tank, and instruction manual it says that I cant return the unit to the store. I have to call their 1800 number and get assistance. This is where things get interesting. I called the number and explained what was wrong. The support person walks me through the same stuff thats written in the instruction manual. He comes to the conclusion that the unit is defective and tells me a work order will be created and within one day someone will call me. Of course a day passes and no one calls me. So I call Rheem and they tell me that a local company has the work order. Called the local company and they tell me that they dont have the part to fix the tank and they can’t come out until Rheem sends ME the part. I call Rheem, and of course they tell me that they wont send me the part and that the local company has to first come out and diagnose the problem. At this point I am angry and explain to them that it is the middle of winter, I have two small kids and just want hot water. I ask if I can return the tank to the store and they tell that they wont authorize a return until the unit gets diagnosed. I call the local company back and they tell me that Rheem is giving me the run around and that the part is probably on back order so it could be weeks before I get the problem solved. He tells me I would be better off dealing with the big box store. I called the big box store and explained the situation and they agreed to take the unit back as defective. The big box store and the local company apologized. Rheem were jerks. I hope the company goes bankrupt and all of their support people lose their jobs and have to go without hot water.

April 25, 2015 my plumber installed a Rheem 40-gallon H2O Heater bought at Marina Del Rey, CA Home Depot at my Santa Monica rental house. The water did not get hot & we assumed it would in several hours. My tenant called me April 27th that the water still was not hot & observed a big water leak coming from the unit. My usual plumber who installed the unit was 100 miles away working & unable to arrive. I called RHS (Reliance Home Services), they arrived in 30 minutes & determined the H2O Heater as defective. My tenant was very upset and demanded emergency replacement now. Reliance informed me they could replace the H2O heater within the hour and guarantee hot water and a working H2O heater. I went online and found other complaints of Home Depot Rheem 40-gallon H2O heater. I always thought Rheem was a good brand. I read Home Depot is purchasing low quality Rheem H2O heaters. I could not take another chance of getting Rheemed by Rheem as other angry Home Depot consumers of Rheem H2O heaters describe their frustration. So I incurred a 2nd H2O heater expense & installation with Reliance for emergency service. Although, the tenant and I were pleased to finally have hot water within the hour! I feel as others that this is totally unacceptable to sell bad products! I was unable to send pics of receipts due to my malfunctioning VZ cellphone!

There are lots of problems at the start. Finally, it was fixed after Rheem sent a man from the home office. it worked for four years then went to heck. The cost to me at this point is over $1800 from their techs out of Denver and plumbers in the Greeley area trying to fix them. Rheem sent one new unit out but not enough pipe to install, and then I was informed that I was going to have to tear out part of my finished home to install and they wanted me to install the 1st unit before they replaced the 2nd. What a mess, and thousands to install. Now the head tech at Rheem, Mr. Daniel **, has been dragging this out; hes not returning phones and doing nothing to help me. Hes not even giving me an answer to what they will do. I am so sick of this. So very much money to buy and install at the start and now there is no hot water and more and more costs, all because Rheem 1st tankless system and venting was not right, so you, the homeowner, must figure out how to get hot water in the home where there is no place/room to install, no electric or water or gas lines to change to some other type of heat. Just tear down a new home and pay thousands of dollars to get hot water.

I wish I knew now what I should have known then. I purchased a 2.5 ton Rheem unit in Jan 2012 and had it installed for my 1000 sq ft condo in AZ. No problems at first but then in Aug 2016 the unit started blowing hot air and had techs come out. After spending almost $1000 for coil cleaning, new blower motor plus other stuff the unit was running again. Then in 2018 it started blowing hot air again. This time I had a handyman who was working on my condo told me the coil were frozen over and let it run blower only for 24 hours and let it thaw out, that worked. Now forward to Aug 2020 in AZ with the temps averaging 114 outside plus covid happening the unit again started blowing out hot air. Techs again come out. Tell me it needs parts, Freon, new condenser and maybe that would fix my problem. It would be about $4000 and it was not guaranteed. It would not happen again. I was told by two companies that Rheem units are a piece of crap and they do not sell them at all. I purchased another new unit. I do not think things should break in less than 10 years. Wish I also knew that Rheem has lawsuits against them in 2014.

Purchased model #M061516469, 12-year warranty, 50 gal. unit (Serial XG50T120DU36U0) on Feb. 17, 2015. In mid August 2016 the unit began making a banging noise. Turns out the burner assembly was failing and the banging were actually mini explosions at burner shut down. Remember this unit had only been in service for 17 months. In Sept. 2016 the burner assembly was replaced, labor and parts were covered under warranty. Fast forward to Feb. 2019. The banging started again. Following Rheems advice to begin warranty replacement of any failing parts a plumber came out to diagnose the problem. For a mere $215 the plumber told us what we already knew, burner assembly failure. This time the cost to diagnose came out of our pockets since the warranty on labor is only 3-years, the warranty on parts is 12-years. The cost to install the new burner assembly was to have been an additional $225, but the plumber was going to give us a discount and only charge us $175. As it turns out installation of the burner assembly would be zero because the part is OBSOLETE! Yes, parts on a four year old 12-year parts warrantied water heater are obsolete. With that said the solution offered by Rheem is a warranty replacement of the entire unit!! We have to remove the old unit, take it to Home Depot, replace it with another Rheem water heater and bring it home. If we want it professionally installed the cost is on us. This just boggled my mind! These heaters are extremely expensive. To have such an expensive unit fail, not once, but twice within four years, then have the company render it obsolete as to require replacement is just beyond me. I hate to think that Ill have another Rheem product in my home that is destined to fail due to obsolete parts before its even close to the end of a 12-year warranty. Rheem should have absorb the cost of professional installation of their expensive parts obsolete four-year old unit. Seems like it would be the right thing for Rheem to do.

This is the 2 Rheem 360 gallon hot water heater model G65-360-1 that has leaked in less than 5 years. The 1st one lasted under 4 years but because Rheem only offers a 4 year warranty from date of manufacture not install we had to fork out $15,000 to have another heater installed Dec 2016. Going with the same model allowed for quick replacement which when your business is closed because of lack of hot water fast is best. Now 14 months later our heater that cost more than a small car is leaking. Rheem comment although they have agreed to replace the heater not sure yet if they are paying the $2000 install fee was that they very seldom have what they call a leaker. When I told them to look up the serial number of the one the new leaker replaced the agent claimed we are not having much luck with their heaters, we would send it back and put in a John Wood but Rheem wont give us a refund. Be aware they have problems. Avoid a Rheem or any of their other products. A Wood heater will last years without problems, ask your plumber before you buy not the experts at the Home Improvement stores. They are going to sell you what they make the most margin on. Not what is going to be the best.

I called the help number and come to find out that I could have overnight the stupid part for a small fee and had hot water in a couple of days instead of over a week, but the guy processing the order the first time failed to mention that option to me. Needless to say the part is now overnight but since it was a Friday afternoon it wont go out till Monday so when the thing finally comes in and can be installed it will be 5 days since the service tech got out there to begin with to get the hot water heater running. In Feb. 2014 my home warranty company who by their very nature replace covered parts with the cheapest product they can. That’s an issue in and of itself. Sent out a technician who replaced the previous failed water heater with a Rheem 48 gallon tank made in Mexico. It states it right on the model number and serial number sticker. This tank came with a 6 year limited warranty. On 6/28/2020 the tank failed and was leaking out the bottom, luckily I caught it quickly and was able to shut off the water and attach a hose to the tank and drain it before further water damage could occur. I called a plumber who came out first thing in the morning and he took one look at it and confirmed what I knew that it had to be replaced. I asked why this would fail within five months of being out of warranty and he informed me that Rheem is a consumer grade product that’s not very good. As he disconnected the unit and wheeled it away, a stream of red colored water followed it as it exited my garage. I asked the plumber if that was rust and he confirmed that it was.I asked if my whole house water filtration system could have helped the unit fail faster as salt is used in the filtration process. He and my filtration company whom I already had scheduled to come out that day to change our filter medium, both confirmed that this would not have caused this and more so would have helped prolong the system as no sediment would build in the tank.Plumber installed a new tank made in America and told me that this was a solid tank and should easily last 10 years. I contacted the Rheem warranty department and explained my situation and the front line rep stated since I was out of warranty there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with a supervisor as I felt this was just a few months past warranty and how it failed seemed like planned obsolescence.A supervisor called me the next day and I explained my plight and asked if Rheem could do something given the circumstances. The supervisor stuck to his story and kept referring back to the warranty and that he couldn’t do anything. I even asked if they could do some form of partial compensation as I was out $1800 for the new tank and install. He kept to his company line and stated he couldn’t do anything. In business you can ALWAYS do something, especially for exception situations where it’s clear your product failed sooner then it should have. I asked the supervisor if he truly couldn’t do something or is it more the case he wouldn’t do something. That was a little to close to home and we promptly ended the call as I knew I was dealing with a terrible manufacturer who they and companies like them are more concerned with profits then manufacturing and standing behind their product.Rheem is a common brand sold at Home Depot and Lowe’s outlets. My plumber would never touch them because of their shoddy manufacturing. Rheem is a key example of the current discordant atmosphere in this country as their business practices are focused on greed, period. Use cheap labor in Mexico, less than adequate materials for the purpose of the product and make their margins by mass volume through these national retailers. Staff your customer service with minimum wage or barely over minimum wage to dodge claim calls and ultimately only compensate as few claims as possible. It’s more cost effective to staff customer service and train them to avoid claim fulfillment than it is to make good when their products fail. This company should be shut down, liquidate all its assets, attempt compensate customers who were in warranty and denied and proceed down the list as best as possible. Residual if any, should then be used to fund a start up in either America or Mexico or both and bring in best in class manufacturing processes to produce a truly viable product that the new company will stand behind. DON’T BUY OR INSTALL A RHEEM WATER HEATER. Install a better quality tank and pay the extra cost. You will easily recover that cost in performance as well as not having to deal with costs of home and property damage from a failed tank.

I had a water heater installed in January 2021. June 2021, water heater inoperable. I had the gas valve replaced and polit assembly replaced. I had a Rheem representatives on the phone with technician who installed the tank and they got into a shouting matchen until technician hung up phone. Rheem was confident the thermal release device activated and told me that if the device was no activated, they would replace tank, at their expense, without question. I confirmed that the TRD was still in good condition and was told that they would have one of their approved technician exchange the tank. The next day, they told me that I would have to secure my own technician and that they would reimburse me up to $450 to have a technician come disable tank, go to Home Depot to exchange it and reinstall new tank for up to $450. What plumber do you know will do all that for $450?? I got back on for phone with them and after waiting on the phone for more than 1.5 hours, they secured a plumber to come do the exchange. This was after they told me they did not have a plumber to do the job. Each time I called, I was on the holding on the phone for more than an hour. I have been without hot water for about a month.

It’s unacceptable to ask the customer to pay to ship the parts to fix their products. Rheem manufacturing process failed, and now they want the customer to help defray the cost. The part should be overnighted at their expense.. It would very easy to avoid that cost... BUILD A QUALITY PRODUCT...

Purchased new Rheem water heater. Installed in new home 8/27/2020. Tested pressure relief valve as instructed in Use & Care Manual. Valve would not fully re-seat and leaked to ½ gallon in 24 hours. Tried valve several times to see if it would flush out any material that may prohibit it from closing properly, leak continued. Called Rheem Tech Support at 1-800-995-0982 on 8/23/21. Sat on hold for 27 minutes before being disconnected. Called a second time, on hold for 51 minutes before someone answered only to tell me I had wrong department and they could not help. Called Tech Support # again, on hold 37 minutes, asked for a supervisor. Was told that Parts Warranty only good for 1 year from manufacture date. I was given a part # and told I would need to purchase part for about $37. Told them I have documentation of when Water heater was installed and put into service, that doesn’t matter, parts only good for one year from manufacture. Started calls at 11:30 AM, ended 1:45 PM, over two hours. This water heater touts a 10 year Warranty, evidently need to get to fine print to learn that parts that will commonly fail are only given one year from date of manufacture. I am a builder and have had multiple Rental properties, this water heater was for my own home. This in my experience is the worst customer service/support ever, I will personally never purchase or install another Rheem product. Buyer beware, you are dealing with a bloated, self-important company if you deal with Rheem.

Model 13PJL60A01 - This A/C unit was installed in our new home in December of 2010. Not even 5 years old it has 3 A/C Freon leaks -- The first in the air handler coil which had to be replaced and two in the outside unit in the same location. Each time the unit has been repaired we have had to pay $540.00 for the Freon replacement. That is over $1,600.00 in Freon alone. A new unit only cost just over $2,000.00. This unit is prone to leaks and vibration. Rheem seems to want to do nothing... I Rate Rheem extremely poor on quality.

Buying Rheem Seer 20 heat pump/ac unit is the worst investment of our lives. Three months after buying it quit and installer said it needed to replaced but under warranty. Waited 2 months and installed in December. Incredibly loud!!!! Sounds like a loud compressor running beside the house. If the outside temperature gets cold it is very inefficient warming the house. At -10C (14F) it couldnt keep the house warm and we had frozen pipes! Incredibly disappointed to have to live with this horrible investment. If I win the lottery this will be the first thing I replace.

I wanted to buy a Rheem Lifetime warranty Marathon hot water tank. They advertise that it will never need changing and will save you so much money in the long run. I was so excited I would never have to change it again... it seemed worth the extra cost... for sure. Luckily I remembered that my insurance requires that hot water tanks be changed every 10 years so I asked the insurance if they will accept this lifetime unit forever and they said NO. My insurance told me that 99% of insurance companies will still require that the unit be changed after 10 years regardless of the manufacturers warranty claims. Note: I am in Canada. Buyer beware!!!!

Update to my post earlier today. The third Rheem hot water heater 50 gal, tall version was bought this evening. I installed it because we need baths and I cannot wait for Rheem. I bought this Rheem from Penco instead of Home Depot. Now I do love Home Depot and their customer services is splendid. However , I have learned that Rheem makes different models of the same types for different distributors. Looks like to me Pencos unit cost $476 instead of HD price of $418. Guess what happened? Pencos Rheem was installed and did not leak at all, no leaks, we are finally taking baths. So HD has a cheaper version and its also less quality. Why cheaper if it leaks? Give me Penco. I love ya HD, but I had to stop smelling. Lol.

I bought a Rheem Water heater at Home Depot in Daphne, AL two weeks ago. From the start it leaked on the cold water supply side. Technical assistance sent two nipples and contracted a plumber to replace. Even after replacement of the two nipples, the leak was still there. Reaching out again to their customer support they indicated they had no contracting companies around Mobile, and that I had to hire a plumber myself for replacement and reinstallation. Meaning I would have to pay upfront and then invoice Rheem. They are not even interested in picking up their piece of junk back to investigate further the quality escape. Honestly, they should drop their current business for two reasons: poor product quality and very low-grade customer support. I will never buy their junk again.

Rheem Marathon water heaters come with a lifetime warranty. A licensed plumber installed this water heater just under a year ago. The heater began making loud noises, like a metal object was hitting another piece of metal. I called the same plumber back to check on the noise. He examined the heater thoroughly and found nothing that would have caused this problem to arise. He asked me to call Rheem Customer Service to see if they could explain and offer a solution to the noise. (The noise has no relation to water use, time of day, or any other variable I could think of). My first call was answered by Lori, who asked for my serial number, then told me to adjust the flue baffle and that would eliminate the noise. She was in a hurry to get off the call. The electric Marathon has no baffle. My second call was answered by Valerie, who also took my serial number. I specifically told her the heater was electric. She then told me to take off the two covers on the front, determine which light was on when the noise occurred, then call her back with the information. I took off the covers to find that there are no lights. She was also interested in ending the call. My third call was answered by Nick, who apologized for the other two agents of Rheem, which he could see from the record of calls I had made previously. He suggested draining the tank to see if that would eliminate the noise. I asked the plumber about this and he stated that there would be no need to drain the tank given its age. So I am left with either calling Rheem yet again for what appears to be sketchy advise or learning to live with the noise.Rheems Customer Service seems to be time on the phone driven: when you get a trouble call, give some kind of answer and get off the phone as soon as possible. Not a good system to encourage customers to buy any Rheem product in the future. Their responses to my problem seem to treat the Lifetime Warranty as a mere piece of paper used as a sales aid only. Beware of Rheem products!

Rheem 80,000 BTU heat pump - I purchased a complete HVAC package two years ago through an installer in my area (Loveland, Ohio). The product is a high efficiency Rheem. Almost immediately and continuing today, the heat pump shuts down because of condensation working its way into a vacuum line that monitors the gas valve. I have been told that this problem is particular to Rheem (and they are aware), but have not corrected the problem. I tried submitting my problem and complaint to Rheem on their website but when I press the submit button, nothing. The comments go nowhere. I have turned the gas valve a 180 degrees on its bracket so the tube has a slight back flow. Im hoping this helps eliminate the problem. I will never purchase another Rheem product again.

Read the reviews, then run as fast as you can to find another supplier. At 15 years old, my old water heater was running fine, but I decided it was time to replace it before it died. I contracted for a Rheem Power Vent unit (a requirement in my situation), which made it quite expensive at $1,300 with installation. It lasted 30 months, and died with what turns out to be a common problem with the valve. The installing contractor sent the repair over to a Rheem specified service organization, who was not very responsive. It took me a day to get a call back, and they totally blew off a 3PM to 7PM arrival window scheduled for the next day, and called 8AM the following day (3 days) acting dumb, and said can we come now? They found the failing valve, but only after I stopped him from leaving, when it started up (as it always does), and the repair guy says see, its working. Sure, just wait 5 minutes for it to start ignition failure recycling every 2 minutes. Finally he saw that, went and got the part, and fixed it. I just got the bill. 3 hours at $125 (should be one hour) and $356 for the Smart Valve. Sure its smart for Rheem and the repair guy. Me, Ive just spent over 1/2 the cost of a new unit, to fix one that is only 30 months old. Where is the warranty?

Ok out of all the reviews Ive read heres one that you should all read if youre going to buy a Rheem. I replaced a GE for the Rheem and in less than a year I had 6 instances where I had no hot water and each time was when it rained. Now I had my handyman install it (who wouldnt right). Wrong... Had Rheem plumbing contractor come out who told me unit was flooded because the housing unit was not secured right allowing water into the housing unit which collected in the water heater... My warranty that expired on 2028 was now null and void one year into ownership. I strong urge everyone to not buy Rheem. The fine print is where they get you where it hurts. I had to pay $250 to get it working again but if it goes out again Im screwed with no warranty. BUYER BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY... I will be filing a complaint with Rheem and Better Business and Consumer Affairs. WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN EVER!!!

Rheem he80-130n commercial water heater - I own a restaurant in Phoenix and your water heater was nothing but trouble for me. Its a real hunk of junk. The unit was very expensive to begin with and was only 2 years old when the first igniter went out. Now, when the unit was 3 and a half years old, the igniter went out again and blew the main board. We replaced blown igniter again and blown board again. The plumber I had working on it said the unit was poorly designed. I cant believe what a hunk of junk this unit is. On top of that, I could not buy parts on the west coast. I had to have them shipped next day from Boston. It really is bad business to have a product that you cant even get parts for. A restaurant cant run without hot water, so it needs to be easy to repair. But to only last for 3 years and cost $6,000 is totally unacceptable. That I put $900 in parts and the unit still only worked for a couple of days is crap! So I had to take your unit out and replace it with another one, which cost me a lot of time and money ($5,000). It also caused my business to suffer from having to close kitchen because of your faulty product design. You would think for all that money this unit would work much better than it does. For the igniter to blow and destroy the motherboard, that’s a poor design. I believe your company should refund me part of the cost of the unit for it being such a piece of crap, or at least for the parts that I purchased and the labor to install them. Just an extremely unhappy customer!

We had our water heater replaced in Dec 2020 with a Rheem Performance 40 gal that was manufactured in July of 2020. August 13th 2021 the S.I.T. valve went bad, so I contacted Rheem on Monday August 16th as it was a manufacturer warranty issue. Rheem was quick to provide a replacement part and tell me they would schedule a technician. Three days later no part, no technician, no hot water. I called back and this time was told the first service rep had misspelled information and they would fix it and get things sent, but they had no technicians in my area so I could pay a plumber myself and submit it for eventual reimbursement. At this point I was losing patience, the following Monday August 23, we had now been without hot water over a week, but now I had replacement parts, but plumbers in the area werent willing to work on Rheem products and the ones that were were over priced. We are on a fixed income and thanks to other repairs and safety upgrades our savings was nearly gone.I contacted over 22 plumbers and finally just called Rheem back and told them they needed to send a technician because no one wanted to touch their product, if I had still been able to I would have gone to the basement and done it myself. The person showed no empathy so I asked for a supervisor and was put on hold for about 40 minutes, when I finally got the supervisor and was going over this whole thing I glibly remarked,I mean you guys obviously knew you were send out bad units, you have a line dedicated to the specific issue. To which the supervisor (Chris) surprisingly responded, Yes we know. This company knowingly send out bad units, to be installed in homes, offices, daycares... what if the valve had gone bad the other way and not shut off? It could have blown the tank, because relief valves fail more commonly than you would expect. This is a bad company operating on bad policy and in bad faith.

Basically, I bought two Ruud/Rheem air conditioners from a local company and the 2011 air conditioner started to leak Freon as far as I can tell in 2016. Upon investigation and numerous calls I became aware that the company is selling units with copper coils (aluminum is the best choice) that are eaten through by the Freon and thus cause leaks in the coils which and in turn the unit shuts down. The company denies that they are having significant problems and will not help me financially address the repair. So, at this time I am repairing my air conditioner from my own Pocket even though I bought the units in good faith along with the assurance that Ruud/Rheem was a trustworthy company, WHICH THEY HAVE PROVEN ARE NOT TO BE.When I called the company, the customer service representative was in complete denial of the problem and I think they were trained to say certain pat answers to avoid liability. I Highly suggest that everyone reading this write or call the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION as I did and a rep will call to take your complaint and if enough people do so there will be a federal investigation based on the MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT, look it up to educate oneself.

Installed a water heater that worked for two days. Called customer support. Spent 20 minutes waiting, only to be redirected to a technician with a 40 minute wait. I got a teenaged millennial who had never installed a water heater and clearly wanted me off the queue. I got exactly one question, whats the voltage across the incoming electrical leads. Despite both leads providing 120VAC, I was told it was an electrical problem, determined by ONE test, and dismissed. No other diagnostics were performed and no interest in what, where are when anything happened. Describing the problem and steps taken was of no interest to the teenager on the other end. Clearly designed to avoid actual customer service. So if you want to talk to a know-it-all teenager on a phone in a cube, call Rheem customer support. Well thought I was making a good purchase. The first electric water heater that I bought had the element go out twice. The first time they came and repaired it. Now the heater was only 6 months old on the first repair. After that not even a month passed and the element went out again with water also leaking everywhere. So after that on the third visit they notice that the element was not screwed in right causing it to leak again. They replace it with a newer model that was going to be better but my luck, one week into it and eco goes out. They send the part. Had to wait a week for it just for the repairman to put it on and now my breaker is jumping. The repairman then tells me thats its probably my breaker. Hint my breaker had never jumped having the first water heater. So technically the repair did an incomplete job because I still have no hot running water. Now customers services doesnt want to deal with my wife. It is up to you if you think its worth buying this product. But I will never buy from them again. Not worth dealing with the repair people and their customers services. Best of luck if you buy.

This type of support was so bad and as the customer I am wrong because from their home where they sit answering the phone they can tell how I have this unit installed wrong even after having professional people look at it. WOW Rheem you have the best employees on the face of the earth!! So if you buy a Rheem hot water heater be prepared to have your family suffer on a SUNDAY of all days to run out of hot water and get their wizard support team to tell you the customer how wrong you are and how you installed their unit wrong. Lesson learned here DO NOT BUY RHEEM!!! For anything!!!! Four day wait before I have hot water again and another $200 to have their junk installed. Really. THANKS RHEEM. NOT!!!!

I had a new 50 gal electric hot water tank install with a 2 year in home 12 year warranty. Unit heated water but only produced about 5 minutes of water. I called Rheem and rep. said a company would contact me for repair. A week later no one had called so I called Rheem rep. Said he had no notes about this and said I would have to hire contractor. I ask to talk to supervisor and was just parked on hold. I hired plumber and repair person tested all parts and said electronic brain was bad. No parts were available from any supply house and Rheem was not answering phone. I talked Home Depot into an exchange and I got new electronic brain. I still have same problem and have been on hold for 30 min. now. They say I have $125 limit for in home repairs and I have two trips for repair now. New brain being sent. 6 hours of time dealing with this. Over 2 hours on hold and a hour just calling with no answer. New unit still not working correct for a month. I own many rental homes and this is poor service...

I bought a gas water heater at Home Depot by Rheem about 1 1/2 year ago. It failed, Rheem labels the water heater not to take the water heater back to Home Depot but, to troubleshoot the problem thru the phone with them, after they “think” they know what the problem is, they mail you parts for you as a customer, replace them (like the customer is a plumber or a technician). It didnt work the first time, troubleshooting thru the phone again, now they thought they knew what the problem is, send another part, replace it. It worked for 2 month, and failed again. Call a third time, troubleshoot, then they authorized to take the water heater back to Home Depot for a partial credit... after everything you have to go thru, not having hot water for 2 weeks, paying a plumber for all the labor, taking the water heater back to Home Depot. It’s a very disappointing way of dealing with this kind of help from this company.

This is to anyone who is considering a RHEEM hot water heater. I just purchased the 50 gallon 40K BTU unit and I have had no luck getting it to ignite. I called the service number and they told me it was a faulty igniter. They gave me an option to have it overnighted or look for it locally. I found the part locally but they told me to check the igniter out of casing first because they usually dont fail. Long story short it was not the igniter. Through a secondary check the RHEEM tech figured out it was the entire gas control box. I now have to wait for 2-3 business days for the entire assembly. I just paid $600 from HD and my family has no hot water for 4 days! ITS A TOTAL JOKE. DONT BUY THEIR JUNK!

Purchased a Rheem Water Heater from Home Depot in April 2015. Gas Valve failed November 2016 and was replaced under warranty. Gas Valve failed again January 2019 -- Rheem sent a replacement, but I never installed it because the existing Gas Valve appeared to be OK after re-lighting pilot. In May 2019, no hot water... went into garage to investigate and found water around base of heater. Pulled off front cover and noted that bottom of insulation was saturated with water -- tank is leaking. Tank failed in 4 years! 9 year tank warranty. Called Rheem for return authorization and returned heater to Home Depot (got about 85% credit -- prorated). I was given store credit only, so I had to buy the same piece of crap Rheem water heater since thats all Home Depot sells. Well have to see how long this one lasts.

Purchase brand new water heater from HOME DEPOT. Had it installed correctly. It leaked. Submitted pictures to Rheem and they said it was a manufacturers defect and gave me $250 to get it unhooked, returned and a new one installed! $250, in their own words, is the National Average for reinstallation. No plumber would even unhook it for $250 let alone install a new one. We live in Mississippi, not New York or LA. Surely, the National Average would suffice here. Ive spent $300 to get it installed, another $300 to get it returned and another $300 to get it reinstalled. And all they can give through their warranty program is $250. Its their poor workmanship that caused all of it. NEVER BUYING THIS AGAIN. DECIDED TO GO WITH AN AO SMITH WATER HEATER. GREAT QUALITY!!!

Purchased and had professional installation on a Rheem 40 gallon water heater with a 9 year warranty on 1/30/2015. This morning 5/3/2017 just a few months over 2 years the unit failed and needs to be replaced. Now I am out $500.00 labor and must pay the difference between todays price and the price I originally paid for the water heater... Spoke with customer service and of course they wont pay since I am over the two year parts and labor portion of the 9 year warranty. What a ripoff! They know they are making junk and are smart enough to limit the warranty so they are not responsible for labor when their inferior products fail prematurely. Dont get Rheemed like I did and stay clear of these poor quality products.

I bought a Rheem Water Heater from Home Depot and had it installed on 2/9/17. Once it was done, I found leak. After talking to Rheems customer technical support rep, she admitted its a leak from the tank and asked me to return it to Home Depot to get a replacement. I had to spend more time and labor cost to uninstall the 1st one and then reinstall the 2nd one. After that, I have asked for a compensation.Rheems customer service team in April asked me to send proof of payment for services such as a copy of your cancelled check FRONT/BACK or a credit card statement. If paid by cash, please be sure to provide the phone number for technician/company so we can confirm payment with them, which I did through both regular mail and email. But so far I have not heard from them anything. When I called Rheems customer service #, they said they wont handle it. I have to contact their billing department. But they wont provide the contact phone #. I had to BBB to help me, but no result. Cant believe how bad their service is. So next time when you buy a water heater, be very careful!

Purchased an entire HVAC system from Rheem August 2010. Have had continual problems with the Rheem Model RANL 13 SEER air conditioner... pressure switch, refrigerant, capacitor, and compressor! Rheem does not cover labor to install these parts even though all parts are warranted for five years. Customer Support gets you nowhere. My system is four years old. I suppose Rheem expects the consumer to dump the system when the five-year warranty expires and buy a new one. I will NEVER buy another Rheem and I will make it a mission to inform others about this company that manufactures inferior products. I agree with others who have posted about the racket Rheem has going - a class action lawsuit would be appropriate!

Had to replace our original HVAC which was 13 yrs. old. Went thru Home Depot and they suggested RHEEM and was installed by ARS. It didnt work right away, and I have to tell them that we were moving into a hotel since they guaranteed that it will be done within 24 hrs. or they will move us into a hotel. Well, they worked overtime the next day so they didnt have to move us. Installed August 2013 and we had cooling problems April 2016, HVAC repairer said low on freon, warned us that it might be leaking. June 2016, cooling problems again, same HVAC repairer came and said it was blocked drain and suggested we avail of their maintenance plan and we did.August 22, 2016 cooling problems again. HVAC repairer came at night and concluded that coil has a leak and was 90% sure it was the coil inside because the outside unit coils didnt have any signs of leakage. For this visit we paid $177 labor and freon refill. So far we have spent $700 for the three visits. To replace the coil it will cost $500 plus and that is already with our membership discount. This RHEEM brand is a piece of junk and reading through all other reviews, Im so mad that I didnt do my research and trusted the Home Depot specialist. The only consolation I have is that I took a maintenance plan so at least I get a 15% discount every time they have to do repairs.

I had 2 Rheem HVAC units oGas/AC) installed in my home in May 2014. One unit is for upstairs, the other for downstairs. In October 2018, the downstairs unit would not cool properly, low on freon, technician added freon and a sealant to hopefully seal the leak in the A coil. Then May 2019 the upstairs unit A coil had to be replaced. Now today June 24, 2019, the downstairs unit A coil has to be replaced (guess the sealant did not work). By the way, according to the technician who installed the unit and did the repairs, in the upstairs unit stated that the warranty did not cover or expired?? Do money out of my pocket for PART & labor. Now today the downstairs unit needs A coil replaced. I contacted the technician today and gave him a rundown on the dates, charges, and work done over the last (barely) 5 years since the install of these units and asked if these units didnt have at least a 5 year warranty? Note.... The company that installed the units amis the same one that services them. Researching in the internet, it appears that many units are warrantied for at least 5 years, some 10, 12 years or more. So, in my opinion, go purchase another brand of HVAC.... Stay away from Rheem. Check the warranty and get it in writing before you decide to have it installed.

I purchased a Rheem 50 Gallon Electric Hot Water Heater in November 2018. Immediately after installation I got an error message that the lower temperature sensor was damaged. I called Rheem immediately. After more than 3 weeks and more than 5 phone calls they still cant get a technician to fix the problem (I live in Portland, Oregon).Last phone call they said to me that they got a technician in Buffalo NY. When I told them, for third time, that I live in Oregon, the person decided to escalate the ticket to her supervisor. This guy (supervisor) send me a list with technicians who work in the area where I live. I called the first person in the list. He said to me that he does not work with Rhemm (!!) Prepare to be on hold for long periods of time when you call scam company. I wish I never bought this hot water heater and I hope others see my review so they can be saved the stress that Ive been going through. Today is December 23rd. Christmas with no hot water. Thanks Rheem!

Cant I get no stars? My water heater broke (leaking) after 5.8 years. It is still under Rheem warranty, so I called Rheem and they said I had to take the water heater back to where it was purchased to get credit or a replacement. I cant remember where it was purchase and I cannot even lift the water heater. My plumber is not willing to take the heater to where it was purchased without charging me the time which is substantial. So Rheem wont honor the warranty unless I bring the whole water heater, this makes no sense. In essence they are saying if I cant carry the water heater into the place it was purchased I can get reimbursed. What is that but a sham! I will never purchase a Rheem product again!

I bought my Rheem water heater 2 years ago. Recently, the pilot light has been going out. As a single gal, who is not very handy, I thought I was making a great purchase given the product came with a 6 year warranty. Much to my dismay, I found out that the warranty is only a parts warranty! Now I have to wait a few days to receive the parts in the mail and figure out how to install them myself... And, once again, be without the ability to take a hot shower in the meantime! I had my previous water heater for nearly 20 years, without a problem and this one defaults after just 2!

On Oct. 3, 2011, I ordered a part for my 4 year old water heater. It was because my repairman said that Rheem will not send them to repairmen so they can repair it, and that I can only get one part replaced. If it goes bad again, I have to replace the water heater. Its not good. So, we contacted Rheem and ordered the part at approximately 2:00 pm. They said it would be shipped over night. It wasnt. I called them the next day. They said it was not going to get here until the next day. I thought that by buying a name brand water heater, it would be reliable. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Whatever happened to customer service? The people I talked to were just a call center, so they really didnt care.

I moved into a brand new home in April 2016. I started having issues with my Rheem tankless water heater approximately 5 months after move in. It kept displaying a error code 12. The builder immediately had his plumber come out. We also included the gas provider in attempting to solve the mystery. After very extensive inspection, it was determined there were no issues at all with plumbing of the gas. Rheem sent another plumber out to change the fire rods. That seem to fix the issue. But, the error code returned approximately 2 months later. At that time, they sent another plumber out to do the same thing. Well, here it goes again... The same error code is back. Rheem has been very unresponsive to my requests. My family and I have had to endure this nightmare for a year and a half. Supposedly, we purchased the “top of the line” unit from Rheem. However, the service I’ve received so far doesn’t reflect that at all. Rheem needs to do the right thing, and replace the unit.

To follow up with the pictures I submitted and to the part that was burnt. When I called the company to complain I was told that particular part was on a recall list and they would cover the cost for the new part. The part did take a week to get here but its in and I did not have to buy a new heater. The 3 stars are because they took a week to send the part or I could have paid for the expedite cost which I felt I should not of had to since it was a recall part. They did not give me a hard time, they were polite, and knew exactly what was wrong. I still felt they should have overnight the part.

3-year-old 5-ton HVAC system in new home. Core had to be replaced in just 2 years. A/C is out again in only a few months. Poorly constructed cores and Rheem is VERY aware of this problem. The replacement core that Rheem uses DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. You have been warned.
