First there was leaking from the freezer and ice building up in the bottom. Ordered part but before we could replace it, unit quit cooling. Repairman said the electrical board was out and sadly there were no replacements. So all the people with this unit basically have to replace them because there’s no part replacement. Makes no sense!!!! I thought Kitchenaid was top of the line, I guess not.

Our $9,000 KitchenAid built-in fridge is 10 years old and required $1,500 in repairs for a faulty control board. The original control board is discontinued (my guess is because they found that it was faulty) and it will now cost even more for the repairman to rebuild the current board. I am not sure why this appliance costs so much when there is no noticeable difference between this fridge and our last homes fridge (except for the fact that it is built in) and clearly you are not paying for quality. For this price I expect better quality control and longer lasting products. When we replace this fridge I will definitely buy another brand. Apparently the fridge has had lots of previous maintenance as well. The company told us that they have been out to our house with the previous owners multiple times. Its shocking to me that a $8,0000-$9,000 appliance could require so much maintenance in the first ten years of its life. Dont waste your money - go with a company that is known for high quality, not just high prices.

I purchased a new refrigerator on 12-13-12. It was a Kitchenaid French Door 29 model #KFIS29PBMS. Since purchasing this refrigerator I have had to place 9 service calls. Virtually, every part in the freezer/defrosting unit have been replaced and I am still having problems. Loud noises, PO light comes on continually. The repairman has thrown his arms in the air and said he doesnt know what else to do. He says it is a faulty design. I AM SOOO FRUSTRATED. PLEASE HELP!

My brand new Kitchen Aid KBLS22KWMS arrived yesterday. Its a bottom freezer
My brand new Kitchen Aid KBLS22KWMS arrived yesterday. Its a bottom freezer, single top door model. The bottom deli drawer kept sticking every time I opened it, so I took the drawers out, to try to find the problem. Thats when I saw that the molded plastic, on which rests the shelf supports on the deli and crisper doors, was very thin, and could be pushed in with just normal pressure from my finger. One of the supports was dented in already. Crisper drawers and the deli drawer are held by plastic frames, with no metal at all. Only the top shelves have full metal support. All the plastic is really shoddy workmanship. I have no faith that this fridge will last even a year, much less 5. Its going back to Lowes tomorrow. I had thought that Kitchen Aid was supposed to be a higher end appliance from Whirlpool. Now I will not buy another Whirlpool owned product.

Email to Trail Appliance: I meant to email you earlier but weve been away. All appliances are in and look great. Were just wondering though if a support might be missing from the fridge. Ive attached a couple of pictures to show what I mean. The shelf above the two crisper drawers seems to be missing a middle support? Because as soon as you put any items on it, it really sags in the middle. You can see the glass shelf separating from its white plastic rim and then gap between two crisper drawers getting wider at the bottom. Are we missing a piece or is there anyway to fix this? It seems such an obvious flaw. Trails response: I have checked both units on the floor and neither have a little support... so sorry... It does seem odd that it does not though. My last email to Trail: So what are our options? I must say every time I open the fridge door - what I see (that sagging shelf) is unacceptable. I thought we were upgrading our 17 year old appliances - but it appears not, and Im sure that anyone else who has bought this fridge would be experiencing the same issue. So just wondering what my options are? Does KtichenAid stand behind the supposed quality (or lack thereof) of their products or are we on our own? And what about Trail Appliances? Where do they stand on selling crap (pardon the harsh language) like this? Suggestions? Waiting on response to this last email - but would NOT recommend buying this fridge for this reason.

In May 2016 we bought a KitchenAid double door bottom freezer refrigerator. I have had nothing but problems with it. Purchased it a Home Depot in Brentwood which was another mistake. I have had so many repairs and now I have no ice and my food is thawing out in the freezer. Glad we bought a extra warranty but will do not buy a KitchenAid. They will not even replace it, and it is not CHEAP...

Just contacted KitchenAid because upon dealing with another issue in the freezer, I found these rusty screws in the ice maker. I explained to both the Rep and the supervisor (Chris), that it didnt matter if the refrigerator was 2 or 10 years old, the screws that touch my food should not rust. Basically they told me tuff **. So, a unit that is $70 my cost (much less for them), is apparently too much for them to stand by their product and my health. Therefore, I am sharing this on social media and consumer sites.

We have a kitchen aid refrigerator, and from the first year on have been having issues with the ice maker. It has been one thing after another, and each plumber/appliance repair person that has tackled the issues have said its the worst design they have encountered in appliances. It came to a head last week when water came pouring into the reservoir, and running all over the kitchen tile. Thankfully we were home, and able to turn off the water source, otherwise it would have been a disaster! We are done with it, would give zero stars if that was an option.

I moved into a house with a KitchenAid 42 built-in side-by-side refrigerator. In Sept. 2013, the ice maker stopped working. A reputable repair company told me the cause was one circuit board. They determined the board was no longer made by KitchenAid, and if a third party board repair company couldnt fix it, the fridge couldnt be fixed. A complete fridge replacement would be about $7,000! The good news: I then uncovered an extended warranty bought by the prior owner. The fridge was purchased Jan 2009, and extended warranty ending Jan 2014. Mercifully, the warranty company transferred the warranty to me, with 3 months left before expiring. The prior owner bought the fridge and warranty from a high touch, full price appliance store. Turned out the people who do the warranty companys repair are the people at this appliance store who told the same story as the earlier repair company. They sent the offending board to a board repair company and meanwhile supplied a loaner fridge as without that circuit board not only did ice maker not work, the entire fridge didnt work. Board repair company returned it a few weeks later, saying it was unrepairable. Now the warranty company had to replace the refrigerator, so they are actually the big losers, not me.Everyone involved tells me its not unusual for a 4-year-old $7,000 refrigerator to fail and be unrepairable after 4.75 years, regardless of the brand, apparently because appliance manufacturers havent placed importance on reliability of electronics. The problem is not specific to KitchenAid. In selecting the replacement fridge, I discovered that parent company Whirlpool owns, among others, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Maytag and Amana. In the store, these brands are obviously the same fridge with minor differences in door and shelf decor. My conclusions after all this: 1) There should be some law requiring Whirlpool (and its several brands) to make it possible to buy parts, including electronics, for at least 10 years, for a $7,000 fridge. Today, Whirlpool stops making some board replacements 4.75 years after manufacturing the unit. Meantime, theres some opportunity here for entrepreneurs who can figure out how to acquire and stock working boards for whatever Whirlpool and its brands are manufacturing now. 2) $7,000 Built-ins are a particular ripoff: for about $2,000 one can buy an almost-as-large free standing counter-depth fridge. A few years from now, it would be lot less painful to lose $2,000 compared to spending $7,000 on a replacement. 3) Ive never bought extended warranties in the past, but an extended warranty saved me. For expensive kitchen appliances with significant electronics, I now buy extended warranties.4) Full-price full-service family-owned appliance stores (where they exist) offer more value than I ever appreciated. They held my hand through the whole process, I always had a working fridge, and they helped get an excellent settlement from the warranty company that they recommended when the fridge was purchased.

11 mos. old side x side SS KitchenAid fridge stopped making ice. Whirlpool/KitchenAid Customer Service gave name and phone for our local authorized KA repair service. Fantastic response from service folks, but ice jam was caused by faulty evaporator - replaced. Next day, water all over kitchen flooring - serviceman came and left to order new ice maker. Installed a day later. Next day, water all over flooring again. Service came, contacted Whirlpool Service Tech who told him to replace the whole freezer door. Done 2 days later. That night, water all over the floor and entire mechanical portion of ice maker frozen so could not work. Next day, new water valve installed. That night, no ice. Next day water tubing siliconed. That afternoon, water dispenser wont shut off as the little valve finishes calling for water. Service guy came.Going to conference with his owner and Service Tech at Whirlpool... Service tech tells him to install a tiny shim under the freezer door washer. Done. That evening (3rd visit by repairman same day!) water flooding flooring once again. We have a lemon, but appears that we ALL have lemons. The IN company that sold me this suite of appliances by KitchenAid has now - 11 mos. later - stopped even listing them as products on their gigantic website! Another telling facet. Call to Whirlpool customer service - refusal to consider replacement. Wants another part installed. Were steaming... with no ice maker and now not even any drinking water. Were on a well!

I called KitchenAid service and spoke to a supervisor. I told her that I have had one of their fridges for under 4 years, and had purchased the extended warranty. She expressed no interest in looking at photos of the hundreds of small rusty colored spots all over the front of my fridge. She did not seem interested in finding out what caused them. She told me I would have to pay for a service call, as they only warranty cosmetic damage for 30 days. KitchenAid French Door Refrigerator model KFIS29PBMS01 - I had a new kitchen installed in my home September 2013. The contractor bought the appliances from his distributor but I picked out the brand and all of the models. Within one week of the installation of the refrigerator, end of September 2013 there was water and frost coming down from the inside of my refrigerator. A tech was sent and ordered upgrades for the ice maker. It took three months to get the parts. The problem get a little better but very little ice and very, very small. In March of 2014 some food started to thaw in freezer and we had to remove the food. The ice maker then stopped working. My refrigerator is now 18 months old and I no longer have warranty. I e-mailed KitchenAid. They have a record of the problem we had and the long wait. They did not answer the e-mail. I called the distributor where the appliances had come from and they told me I should have bought an extended warranty. I asked why would pay more money when they could not get it right when under warranty. I bought a new ice maker but still having problems. KitchenAid does not care about their customers. I had bought another entire kitchen from them 15 years and they were good. Their products are now nothing but junk and I bought their top of the line. I hope they go out of business.

We purchased a new KitchenAid side x side refrigerator model KFIS29PBMS00 in late 2013. The cooling system failed in July 2014. We have had 9 service calls to date each requiring a 1/2 day of our time waiting for the appointment at home. The freezer has failed totally 3 times and the refrigerator then fails a few days later. We have lost our food three times and had damage to the floor as a result of the ice maker defrosting. Our last service call replaced the last operating part, and it failed in three days. Today, KitchenAid will require 7 to 10 days to determine what to do. And if they decide to replace it, another 2 or more weeks. So we have no refrigerator again for at least a month!!!! We are not happy.

18-month-old refrigerator. Size is huge. Too deep, things get lost in it. A refrigerator should only be about 25 inches deep the depth of a kitchen coauthor. The inside is poorly organized. The door and bins are the only good organization component. Unused space as too many high places. Ice maker the other day pumped water into the freezer area and leaked out onto the floor. KBFS22EWMS4 bought this refrig in late 2012. All seemed fine till 5/2014. Water started leaking from the freezer door. Water had been leaking into the bottom of the freezer and eventually started spilling out on the floor when the defrost cycle ran. I called a tech and he took apart the freezer, cleared the defrost drain, unfroze it and all seemed fine. 1 year 4 months later the same thing again.I called the same tech and when he got here, he pulled out the refrig and took off the bottom back panel and then removed the little rubber drain plug/funnel. He said this was the problem and now he just removed them when he sees this issue. Hes seen this before. It was very sticky (he said) because of the heat. The rubber funnel is about an inch long and about 1/2 inch wide. It has a slit in the bottom of it for the water to pass through. Not a hole, a slit! No wonder the thing leaked, it would get so easily gunked up and with the rubber being so sticky Im sure the slit would stick together and probably make it much easier to freeze. Id call this an engineering issue.Who in their right mind would use a pliable rubber funnel with a small slit in the bottom, it defies logic. There probably should have been no funnel to begin with or at least a hard plastic one with a hole big enough to drain without getting gunked up. Well see if this fix takes. If not, Im buying another (non-Kitchenaid) refrig. Im not putting $100+ each year on the same fridge for something that should have been designed properly.

I purchased a KitchenAid French door refrigerator with a bottom freezer. It is now 3 years old. It began to leak so I called for service from the place where I purchased the refrigerator. The repair man immediately told me this was a problem caused by a faulty drain and KitchenAid was replacing the parts free of charge however they wouldnt cover the service charge. I am sure the part which is just a drain costs almost nothing but I will have to pay a huge service charge. When I spoke to KitchenAid I asked why I wasnt notified that there was a defective part before the warranty ran out so that the service would have been covered. Bought this June of 2016. Looks great and worked great. Received the ultimate error code. PO flashed every 10 minutes or so. Fridge shuts down and restarts. Fridge and freezer parts stopped working correctly. Replaced the pantry Drawer UI PCB circuitry board and the harness attached as instructed by Whirlpool through an authorized repair facility. Six hours later, error code returns and there are no noticeable changes. Had the evaporator motor replaced at a follow-up date, as the original part was wrong that was shipped. This cooled the fridge and freezer correctly, but the PO error code returned.$800 later, tech support at Whirlpool has 2 or 3 more ideas as to what else it could be. The fridge is out of warranty and customer support can only offer me $75 to help for the $3,500 spent. My 14-year-old Conquest fridge by Whirlpool in the warm garage is working better and has only cost me $45 in parts since new for a new fan motor. The design problem is that there is a circuit board under the water dispenser, and no way to keep any leaking water from frying the circuit if that was ever a problem. Im hoping the next dart we throw hits the problem(s) and fixes the issue.

Regarding our 42 side by side built-in fridge. After some years it starting making some serious loud noises. Finally the fridge gave out. Repairman said he thought the motherboard had gone. OK, fair enough... just order another motherboard, right? My repairman could not find a motherboard in Canada or in the USA. It had to be order through Kitchenaid... but no problem, right?? The company is American, right??? Not so fast. The initial timeline was 4 weeks (which is bad enough) but in the end IT WAS 4 MONTHS!!! During this time I called Kitchenaid more than once to find out where my motherboard was. They could not, or would not give me a straight answer as to any timeline to expect it. My thinking was that it was somewhere in China being created. Thank God we had another fridge in the garage but I have learned my lesson. NEVER, NEVER never will I purchase another Whirlpool product ever again!!! You would think when you pay $10,000 for a fridge a better repair experience would follow. We purchased a stainless steel KitchenAid bottom freezer refrigerator in September 2013. It was fine for a year, but suddenly the PO sign showed up on display board and nothing has been right since then. Upon calling Whirlpool (30 minutes on phone) they suggested we call the repair companies listed on their website. First company we called was Diamond Repair and that guy fiddled around and since he could not figure out the problem, told us that the fault was with the outlet in our brand new built house! Ok, so we called the builder and they looked at it and declared it fine but changed it to a brand new one. Problem continued with the constant beeping and PO symbol on. Then I called Maytag company to look at it and that has been a nightmare. After the first tech left, our water dispenser that was working fine till then, stopped dispensing. They said that maybe it was a coincident that it failed and their tech was not at fault. What!!! They are simply unhelpful. Their techs come out and between the two visits they have changed each and every circuit board, to no avail. Much to our chagrin, whenever I call Whirlpool customer service center, and speak to a manager, they make me repeat the problem, promise me that they will call back and I never hear from them!! One time they supposedly ordered new door for this fridge, but the tech from May-tag came with new circuit boards and did know anything about any door being ordered. I wash my hands off Whirlpool company. The fridge was clearly a lemon. In all the years of owning several refrigerators, this has by far been the worst fridge we have owned but the Whirlpool customer service has been pathetic, to say the least. I will make sure none of my next appliance is even partly owned by Whirlpool!

Rather than take the specced Frigidaire appliance group that was included with our new home purchase, we elected to spend the extra money believing KitchenAid was a superior product. During the past year, we have encountered some of the inner cabinet led lights not functioning and others flickering on and off. We have determined that it isn’t a simple fix such as a door switch, but rather defective led lights and or an led emitter control board. It appears this is a common problem, however KitchenAid is not acknowledging it as a manufacturer defect.I have read a number of online posts reporting the same issues. The reviewers report having replaced faulty led lights, only to have the same problem reoccur. In one case the reviewer stated they were advised that nothing could be done to remedy the problem. I strongly advise you to not buy a KitchenAid fridge with this led lighting design. Repairs are either extremely costly or impractical as the problem will only reoccur. A highly respected technician in our area has confirmed that this is a common problem with KitchenAid fridges. This is a manufacturer defect and needs to be dealt with accordingly.

I wish I could give KitchenAid their warranty company ZERO stars. This is the 2nd refrigerator I have gotten from KitchenAid since 2011. The first one had a compressor that broke, so after 3 painful months of back and forth with KitchenAid, my refrigerator was replaced. My newer one, the 2nd KitchenAid, has a broken fan and motor in the refrigerator (The technician explained that each KitchenAid now has 2 compressors, one in the refrigerator and one in the freezer.). The one in the refrigerator has broken. Parts were ordered and an appointment was scheduled. The technician assigned to repair the unit was given the incorrect phone number so he could not stay. I was asked if the entire unit (freezer and refrigerator) had been defrosted... Not one person I spoke with (appointment scheduling or the first technician) told me to defrost the frost free refrigerator AND freezer units. Now I will be without a refrigerator for ONE MONTH. Totally unacceptable.

It is an average refrigerator with ice bucket in the door. However, the ice in bucket always clumps. Also, it is difficult to keep dust and dirt off the grill underneath the refrigerator due to tight distance between grill and floor space. It is hard to regulate the temperature controls for the vegetable bins. After cleaning the dirt and fuzz from the grill at bottom of the refrigerator there was a noise.

We purchased all new appliances when we remodeled our kitchen in Aug 2017. The refrigerator quit making ice in Jan 2019. I had a repairman come out and replace the freezers fan motor. That fixed the problem, I thought, but now the ice cream in the freezer is super soft. It costs $115 for the repair guy to just come out to diagnose the problem. The last issue cost me almost $400. Now I have to have the thing looked at again. We purchased all KitchenAid appliances because we thought they were able to last with fewer repairs, guess we were wrong. The refrigerator was a major purchase but to need to call out for repairs again is unbelievable.

I have had to replace my top light in my refrigerator twice already. Well today I opened the refrigerator to clean and once again smelled a burning plastic smell. Yep, looked up and the lights had fallen again and was melting the plastic that covers the top light. This is a huge fire risk. Thank God I have caught it all three times now before it starts a fire. KitchenAid will be getting a call from me first thing in the morning. My parents always purchased KitchenAid products and I have up until this point. Guess its time to find a new family brand that will be safe to have in our home. I would not recommend a KitchenAid refrigerator to anyone at this present moment.

Apparently this model has two compressors and it is causing a lot of issues. Kitchen Aid Fridge model KF1S29BBMS00 (French Door w/ lower drawer freezer)
Kitchen Aid Fridge model KF1S29BBMS00 (French Door w/ lower drawer freezer) - We bought our fridge in late June of 2013. Its now Early September and weve been without a properly functioning appliance for more than 2 weeks. Looking through the reviews, the prospect is daunting of waiting months to get this resolved.Same issue as many. After a call to Kitchen Aid, a technician came to evaluate the issue and determined that it was an evaporator fan malfunction. It took 5 days to get the new part. A new technician/refrigeration expert came to install the new (and faulty) fan (The freezer door, which was functioning fine up to this point, was somehow damaged by him so that now it makes a noise when I open it). He said to give the fan 24 hours to cool the machine. A day later it was no better than it was before, with the temperature hovering around 60 degrees. A new technician was sent out the next day. He determined, after taking the refrigerator apart that the new evaporator fan was faulty. He defrosted the evaporator with a heat gun and talked to Rick at the KitchenAid tech line (On an aside, the drawer display doesnt work at all, a whole different issue). Now were waiting a week to get a new fan and no guarantee that this fan will work. We are very frustrated.

KitchenAid Refrigerator Counter Depth Side by Side KSC23C8EYY02 - This pertains to a new Refrigerator purchased in January 2013. Condensation formed above the ice/water dispenser on exterior of original freezer door. New freezer door was installed last week (after 2-month wait). Now, new problems pop up - the ice maker does not produce ice. The electronic display is defective (light segments do not work) and the freezer is super-cooling. 3 different service companies have been here since last Monday and the problem continues. Why cant someone figure this out? A new ice maker is on order, a new display is on order and today, we are told that the heaters (supposed to keep water line to ice maker from freezing) may be defective. We have 4 months before our one-year warranty runs out and no confidence that we will have a functional refrigerator before then.

I bought my french door bottom mount refrigerator in 2013. I have started having issues with the freezer and ice maker. The technician who came to check the fridge told me that this is a very common problem with KitchenAid. We have to pay $390.00 for labor and if the parts are not covered in extended warranty pay for that too. Our extended warranty ran out in 2018. We were also told that the dye leaks and it will have to be replaced every 4 or 6 months. I am annoyed at the expense this fridge is going to cost us. I called the appliance pros for KitchenAid and they did not help in any way. They are very rude and nobody knows anything there. They went on telling me, “We dont know how things work in Canada.” Well why then are you selling appliances in Canada. They know how to give customers a runaround and beat about the bush. I would not recommend this fridge to anybody. Please buy a fridge by a company which stands behind its product.

Service just left and stated how ridiculously expensive the parts. We need a power supply board $387. And he may have to replace some or all of the LEDs at $77 each. This is absolutely ridiculous. It seems to be a common problem with LEDs in a cold environment. We could be looking at a bill of over $1000 for lighting on a $2,500 2 to refrigerator.

We selected KitchenAid panel ready, so our custom kitchen would have a designer look. Imagine how disappointed we were to learn that this refrigerator IS NOT counter depth!! The sides of the refrigerator stick out a 1/4 of an inch too far, and The sides of the door show. I understood the sides of the door would show, because you would not be able to open the refrigerator if the sides were enclosed. What I did not know or expect was the refrigerator to be black!!! Why would a black refrigerator be made for white panels? Why did my sales person not tell me I was getting a black refrigerator, especially since I was going to be seeing the sights around the door in my all white custom kitchen? EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION: The spec sheets that KitchenAid provides for your designer and cabinet builders is INCORRECT!! At least ours are! You should review yours!! The refrigerator does not measure the same as the spec sheets. This is why the refrigerator sticks out on the sides. I feel KitchenAid needs to be held accountable!

Purchased a KitchenAid refrigerator Model #KBFS22EWMS7 in November, 2012 along with a 4 yr extended warranty with a price of $1800. The first week in October 2013, there was a big pool of water on the floor near the refrigerator. Pulled out the fridge thinking a hose had been punctured or a connection was loose. But no, that was not the case. All connections on the back of the fridge were dry. Husband checked more thoroughly and could not find where the leak was coming from. Called the customer service number on the refrigerator user instructions and they set up an appointment with a service person. The service person came out on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, checked all connections and pulled off panels and checked the back and could not find where the water was leaking. He confirmed there is a leak by seeing all the water on the floor, which looks like had been leaking for a while after seeing the edge of the wall with water damage and mold. But he could not find it and could not tell where it was coming from. So he gave my husband a homework assignment to somehow keep a watch underneath the fridge to determine exactly where the leak is coming from. How about that for customer service!!!! Now after seeing all the similar complaints and issues with KitchenAid, I am so afraid that we are in store for a nightmare of our own!!!! Our current plan is to put some type of rubber mat on the floor underneath the fridge and somehow jack up the fridge a little to be able to see underneath to watch for the leak. This is very frustrating and wish now that I had gone with Maytag!!!!

I purchased a model # KFIS29PBMS refrigerator thru Whirlpool VIP program in Nov 2014 for 2K (List price nearly 3K!). Since nearly the day we bought this POS the fridge makes a non-stop buzzing sound. This sound is so loud that we have to turn up our TV at night and on some nights close our bedroom door to drown out the buzzing. We have had 4 service calls and the repair people run their diagnostics and come back with NO ISSUE! I ask them about the sounds and they tell me that it is normal fan operation and that these high end products are more energy efficient and the fans run more. But, I ask them about the DAMN noise and they say that it is normal. I say BS!!! It may be normal for when the fan runs but it cant be normal for them to run all day and all night! Whirlpool keeps telling me that they are sorry that I dont like their resolution and my response is what damn resolution! They have done nothing! I live in FL and am from St. Joe, MI. I am going back to MI in mid-June and I am going to go into Kitchenaid offices and go into their product showroom and see if their products buzz all day long. If they do I will shut up and if they dont I am going to play my videos for them all day long and see what they say. My product is junk and obviously they do not care!

The KSSC48QTS00 refrigerator I put into service in Dec. 2007 failed Aug. 3, 2015. I am having the same experience with KitchenAid as many others. The circuit boards controlling the refrigerator failed due to an overheating problem brought on due to a design flaw of the compressor housing on top of the unit not being large enough to adequately have proper air flow which caused the circuit boards to overheat and fail. Like the rest of you, I too was told the of plant being destroyed making the parts unavailable to fix the problem. They are now available at the consumers expense because of the warranty expiring. That seems reasonable until I find that the failure was caused by the enclosure being too inadequate to handle the heat load generated by the compressor and motor. I was told that their authorized service technicians have been trained on how to modify the upper enclosure to add more air flow to the newly designed circuit boards to keep them from overheating. I was told that the new board will carry a one year warranty. That seems reasonable, except that if they fail due to heat not being dissipated properly that I would again be responsible for any parts and labor to fix the unit.If a product has to be redesigned for the new parts to work properly, that the expense of the modification should be borne by the company that initially designed the product, not the consumer. I tried in vain to relay this to them. All I got was that it is out of warranty. The consumer is responsible for the parts, labor, and any other expenses associated with the repair. They do though say that they are sorry for our inconvenience and that we have a good day, and thank you for choosing KitchenAid.

I bought the Kitchenaid 5 door refrigerator (French Door) in May 2016. The ice maker went out a couple months after I got it and it was replaced and then 2 more times it was replaced in less than 6 months. I decided that maybe the water filter was the problem and didnt replace it. Took it out and didnt have any more problems with the ice maker. Now only 3..5 years later it started having more problems but not with the Ice Maker. It completely stopped cooling and everything in the freezer thawed out and had to be thrown away including things in the refrigerated area. I researched and they no one will provide an extended service on it because they dont cover french door refrigerators. Now I know why they require too much service and dont work well. I called a repairman and will have to wait a few days for them to come out. Lo and behold I was woke up this morning to the sound of ice cubes dropping into the bucket. It has started cooling again. I am still having someone come out but am wary of this refrigerator and dont trust it. I spent over 3 thousand for it 3 years ago and never again will have a french door refrigerator or a Kitchenaid one.

This is the first time I am taking out the time to write a review in hopes I can save people from making the bad choice of choosing KitchenAid/Whirlpool appliances. We have experienced several problems with several of their appliances but by far the worst is with our 42 side by side built in fridge (over $6,000.) Our first unit had so many problems within two years that Whirlpool finally replaced the unit. This was not easy but with good documentation, photos and me just not backing down, they finally did the right thing. We received the new unit on 12/3/08 (so only 4 years ago) and the icemaker which never really worked well is now broken and caused a lot of damage to our kitchen wood floor.Water dripped down through the bottom of the freezer door onto our hardwood floor. Unfortunately, water can do a lot of damage fast. After another frustrating experience with their customer service department, I finally got an appointment with a repair service. I wont even get into the details of that frustrating experience. Well, the ice making unit cannot be replaced because of insulation in the fridge door and we would have to purchase a brand new door. This would cost about $1,400 to replace and take 6 weeks to order the new door. Never mind the expense of replacing the hardwood floors. The Whirlpool Company could not care less. The door is rusted at the bottom, so this went on for a while but we did not notice it until it got really bad and the water started puddling in front of the fridge. Also just two weeks ago, we had work done on our 4 year old Whirlpool washing machine ($350 repair cost) and now it is starting to act up again. I assume that I will have to replace it soon since I am not willing to put any more money into it. These appliances are poorly built and dont represent the quality product they once were. I hope I was able to save someone out there from making the mistake of investing in any Whirlpool (or any of the other lines built by them) large appliance.

We have had a #kitchenaid fridge for 2 years now. The service techs from #PoirierSalesandService have been here at least 4 times. Each time I asked that they replace the fridge, and each time they elected to repair it, stating that my fight was with KitchenAid, not Poirier, despite the fact that they sold it to me. We recently noticed a leak coming from the fridge that has now damaged our cabinets and floor beyond repair. The technician said that theres a crack in the drain pan which you couldnt have caused, meaning that it has been there since the fridge was installed. We have an 7 month old baby girl, and now have mold growing from where the unit was installed. Poirier has at least agreed to file a claim with their insurance to address the cabinets and floor. This is however, apparently of no concern to Kitchen Aid as they have told me that replacing the unit is not an option. I urge all of you reading this to not buy from a company like Whirlpool/KitchenAid, who clearly disregards the well being of their customers, for the sake of profit, and as such chooses not to stand by their product, post sale.

I have had Kitchenaid (Whirlpool) refrigerators for many years now. The older side by side was efficient but difficult to fit all frozen items in especially Pizza Boxes. So the newer Freezer I have is a Bottom Drawer Freezer, which may seem like a good Idea but is quite the puzzle to use efficiently. Most of the time, items are just stacked and get lost or hidden so you wind up taking more things out just to get to what you want. This type of freezer is not user friendly, but I guess is designed to allow better use of the Refrigerator portion of the unit. One last note, mine do not seal properly and frost built up around the drawer and now Whirlpool needs to replace it, the refrigerator is less than 1 year old and was $4,200.

Avoid at all costs the custom Architect series of KitchenAid 48inch built-in refrigerators. This $8,000 custom refrigerator has severe problems with the icemaker. I took delivery and installation of this refrigerator. From day one, the ice maker has not worked. It rains water into the freezer leaving ice all over the freezer. Two so-called KitchenAid repairmen came out the second and fourth day. They cant find the solution. After 10 days of no ice, they hope to replace some part that might fix the problem. The fact is that this unit has a design problem that may never be rectified. There is no reason a brand-new unit should have this problem and the service persons cannot fix it. This indicates either a KitchenAid ice maker design problem or incompetency on the part of repair/service providers. This kind of headache is unacceptable just to have ice cubes and cold milk! I should have gotten a cheaper fridge at one tenth the cost. If you research the reliability records of other built-in fridges, Sub-zero, Thermador, etc, they all have major issues with their ice makers and their compressors. I hope that Pacific Sales, now owned by Best Buy, can help rectify this nightmare. They want me to keep this defective fridge and give me an extended warranty to cover predictable malfunctions. Not a good way to start out. I could understand if this was a 10-year old unit but not with a brand new lemon!

When I called KitchenAid their answer was over time, which could be anywhere from a week to years the parts or the way it was put together could break down. Really? I bought my refrigerator in 2004 and started having problems right after the 12 months mark. The freezer would turn into a big iceberg. The refrigerator is warm and sweaty. First technician who came out said the board controlling the temperature had to be replaced for $300. Since the fridge started working properly again, I never replaced the part. After working on and off for several years, with me hammering ice from the inside of the freezer at least once every other week, now it totally stopped working. The freezer and all vents are completely frozen, including the vents in the refrigerator. The refrigerator is warm and moldy and I keep throwing food away. Technicians sent by KA hold me hostage in my own home with 4-hour window appointments and then show up out of that time frame and leave sorry, we missed you notes on my door. Every time I call Customer Service, I get a different answer going from sorry, you are totally out of warranty to only certain parts are still covered. Once you pay someone to come out and look at it, well be able to tell if the part is covered or not. I live in FL where everything has to be refrigerated. We purchased a Kitchen Aid Refrigerator (Model KRFF507ESS, 27 cu. ft, French door with ice/water machine) and in the 4 years weve had it, weve spent almost 50% of the purchase price (close to $1300) on repairs. This model has a documented problem with the frozen fresh food evaporator - Google the issue and youll find numerous customer complaints about this very issue. Most recently, the ice maker stopped working and we were told itd be an additional $455 of repair. The authorized service repairman in our area (whom weve gotten to know due to the ongoing repair issues) even commented during this most recent visit that the KitchenAid models hes serviced last, on average, 8 years. When I explained the situation to KitchenAid Customer Service this afternoon, they offered to schedule a non-warranty service for me (i.e., something I could literally do by picking up the phone myself). After being transferred to a KitchenAid supervisor, I was then told that theyd offer me a 40% discount off a brand new product. After spending almost $1300 on a $2600 refrigerator! AS IF. We will never purchase KitchenAid again. We thought we were purchasing a quality product and its been nothing but a lemon, requiring costly repair after costly repair. We take impeccable care of all appliances/products, which is what made this situation all the more frustrating. Folks, be sure you purchase those extended warranties! You will need them with your KitchenAid refrigerator!!!!

My 7 months fridge is broken since end of January, high temperature in fridge and freezer area. Service man come on Feb3, run diagnostic test and left. He said it may need some parts. Called him next day that is not working. I was told no parts in stock, 3 weeks later serviceman show up with no parts and starts to look for leaks, found couple, fridge still is not working. Your warranty doesnt tell you when they will replace fridge. I was told 21 days then whenever serviceman will say it is beyond repair. This brand name doesnt stand for quality or consumer satisfaction. Still waiting for parts and no guarantee when it will be fixed or replaced.

I have been disappointed in my refrigerator from day one. Temperature is inconsistent throughout: items freeze and also, just simple design features, like being able to open a vegetable bin when only one door was open, but now taking the cake is my ice and water on the door only functions intermittently and service guys said needs a new board. It’s a $250 part, ok. Frig is 10 years old, I’m ok with that. WELL THEY DONT MAKE PART any longer and there is no work around! KitchenAid customer service’s best response was to send me to a discount supplier of new refrigerators. I’m beyond frustrated. They blame it on supplier, but we all know if KA cared enough for their consumers, it would be provided. This was an expensive refrigerator and I don’t want a new one!

The first fridge was returned after a day when it never cooled. The replacement lasted 7 months and is currently at 65 degrees. Since it is still under warranty I must go through KitchenAid. Over the past week I have been placed on hold for 7 hours. The one time I did speak with someone about an exchange they were rude and misleading regarding the problems with this product, come to find out. When I had such a difficult time with corporate I went back to the dealer. After going through their channels, I was told that corporate tried to email me (not true) and wanted me to call them back! Can you believe that!

We want to thank Chris from B.C. who posted detailed instructions for repairing the electronic control board for Kitchen Aid refrigerators. Our 5 y.o. premium cabinet depth Kitchen Aid model #KBFC42FTS02 had the same problem that Chris described (constant alarm chirping, flashing lights on control panel), but our fridge was still cold. The Kitchen Aid affiliated repair service (contracted by KitchenAid/Whirlpool) told us that the electronic control board needed to be replaced. However, they claimed that the factory which manufactured the parts in Japan had been destroyed by the tsunami and no more parts were being made. Further, I called the KitchenAid parts service line on their webpage and that person (also a contracted service, not a KitchenAid/Whirlpool employee) told us that the date listed for availability of the part was 2020 (which he said meant that they had no plans to supply the part in the future)! The repair service offered to take the part out (then we would have no working fridge) and send it out for repair, which could take up to 30 days - not a viable solution from our point of view. At the repairmans suggestion, we attempted to find a new or refurbished part online and were not successful. Obviously, lots of other folks are having the same problem with their KitchenAid/Whirlpool appliances. Before Christmas, reluctantly we schedule a repair visit to have the part removed and sent for repair. The repair service never showed, despite their assurances that a repairman was delayed but was on his way! After that, we were reluctant to trust them with the brains of our expensive refrigerator. After Christmas, we found Chris blog of 12/28/13, with his description of the parts we would need to repair the control board ourselves and detailed instructions. We were able to make the repairs and our refrigerator is now working. Our cost was under $20. Thanks, Chris - this was a welcome holiday gift! We cant believe how callous KitchenAid/Whirlpool have been in abandoning their customers. We will never buy another product from their company.

I purchased a KitchenAid refrigerator in April 2012 for $$$. So you know I had a Kenmore for 22 years that this KitchenAid was replacing and I actually sold the Kenmore for $50 because it still worked perfectly. I figured KitchenAid was a top of the line appliance. Ice maker went out within 13 months and after several calls I got them to cover parts and labor to fix it, but thats not the complaint here. Fast forward to 2016. In May 2016 the whole unit shut down and after several calls into CS found out it was my sealed system that went out and it was covered. It took a while to get my money back though. The day before Christmas 2016 my refrigerator went out. Long story short, I called the authorized KA service provider to come back out and they told me it would $450 to repair (again, 3rd major repair in 4 1/2 years while the 2nd major repair in 2016). After receiving the estimate I called KitchenAid CS to talk to them about this but their systems were down and couldnt help me and told me to call back the next day. Not thinking because I had a house full of kids on Christmas break from college I figured I would call back once I got back to work this week. Once I got a hold of someone from KA she told me KA would cover the parts only which I was ok with. She told me she would call the authorized repair company and get it worked out. I told her I already had it repaired because I had gone a week without a refrigerator anyway. KitchenAid wont reimburse a customer, just an authorized repair company. What a piece of ** company. Every time I contact KA they tell me the same thing. Appliances are meant to last forever and they never promised me that. I have another 20 year old GE refrigerator in my garage thats worked perfectly that whole time and I spent like $500 on it. This was my first and MY LAST KitchenAid/Whirlpool purchase.

Our KitchenAid stainless bottom freezer refrigerator stopped working on 5/25/13. My husband called the warranty department on 5/28/13 (KitchenAid office was closed from 5/25 to 5/27). They asked him to fax/email the warranty info on our side and instructed him to call back 2-3 business days. My immediate response was they are playing games. Perhaps we should just give up and buy a new one, no more KitchenAid... They finally gave us an appointment for 6/2/13. Who knows whats going to happen. Terrible warranty program. Its a refrigerator which is needed to keep food from spoiling and to store essential nutritious food for good health. Sigh... KitchenAid sucks.

We bought all new KitchenAid appliances for our renovated kitchen about three years ago. The refrigerator has gone out numerous times - we have to unplug it and plug it back in to make it come back on. Ice maker has stopped working at least 5 or 6 times. We’ve had a repairman out here at least four time who told us KitchenAid knows about the problems but doesn’t have a permanent fix. Our freezer quit working today for the third or fourth time. This is a crappy refrigerator. I’ll never buy KitchenAid products again.

NEVER BUY A KITCHENAID REFRIGERATOR!! EVER!! My refrigerator has not worked since my install in July, 2019. Multiple service calls with no resolution. When I call I am put on hold for an average time of 30 to 45 minutes. Today on a 53 minute wait, when I connected they transferred me to the dept. responsible for my exchange and now it says a 75 minute hold. Customer service people have been nice and pleasant, but the company as a whole has a real issue and are understaffed. In addition, when I call to discuss the issue they just want to sell an extended warranty. I paid over $3,800 for the refrigerator, so expectation would be that it would work and be a good product. IT IS NOT!

In April of 2014 we purchased an expensive KitchenAid refrigerator from Best Buy, later delivered & installed by Best Buy. The refrigerator was purchased for the ice machine and water filter. From the time we purchased the frig, the ice maker made very small ice cubes and then stopped making them all together. The frig began leaving a puddle of water on the floor, so we turned off the ice maker and I asked my husband to call KitchenAid, while the product was under warranty. He finally did and in September the first repairman came out from Quaker Appliance who said the product was installed improperly, then Best Buy, who came out and showed us the product was installed properly. We went back to KitchenAid and they sent out Ace Appliance. The Ace Appliance repairman has been out here 6 - 7 times, replacing tubes that are broken, electric boards, the actual ice maker itself and still it does not work. We contacted KitchenAid today, after Ace Appliance did not show up for an appointment, and begged them to please end this and stand behind their product. I have had to take numerous half and whole days of vacation, resulting in greater cost to our family than we ought to bear. When I pointed it out to the Supervisor after speaking with 2 customer service reps, she said that they will do nothing to replace the item until both a technician and the KitchenAid technician deem it unfixable. I asked how many times would that mean someone should have to schedule an appointment, take time off work and she said it could be once or 20 times. Her name was Shannon. We told her we were going to submit a complaint to BBB and she didnt seem to care. All the repairmen who have been out here have told us that KitchenAid will just wait for you to give up, toss a few dollars at you or keep wasting your time. They do not return their faulty products. This is what we were told from experienced technicians...

Its been about 7 years now, and the repairman said ...it would cost close to $1,000 to fix, and that it isnt worth it since it will likely break again. Because they always do. I spent a pretty penny on KitchenAid because I was told they are top of the line. Well, I feel cheated out of $2,000.... I have to throw this refrigerator away that literally looks brand new!!! Dear FOLKS, please read this review. WE FINALLY FOUND A SOLUTION!! My wife
Dear FOLKS, please read this review. WE FINALLY FOUND A SOLUTION!! My wife and I remodeled our upscale homes kitchen 2+ years ago. Granite, all brand new top of the line Kitchenaid appliances. We wanted to buy American, since I have had a 35 year + career in US based manufacturing sales. Well, the KFIS29PBMS refrigerator was unbearably loud from day 1. We had 4 warranty calls right off the bat. They replaced the DC fan motor, the compressor and some icemaker components. This did nothing to relieve the very loud whiny electrical motor sound that was on almost constantly. This took us to the end of our 1 year mfg warranty. We called Kitchenaid several times and they basically showed us their corporate middle finger. They suggested we purchase the extended warranty, which was several hundred $ more! No way, we are not that stupid or foolish. 5 different factory authorized service people visited us. By luck, or I think, Gods grace, repairman #5, who had 18 years as a tech rep, finally solved the issue. The problem was the sealed refrigerant system had a leak. The compressor was kicking into the highest gear (hence the loudest noise level) to try and keep the freezer & refrigerator cool. Our bottom drawer freezers coldest temp was at 20 degrees, when it should have been 0 degrees. The icemaker requires 15 degrees to make ice. It could not do this since 15 degrees was colder than the freezer temp, and the icemaker is located in the refrigerator section! The sealed system has a 10-year warranty, so the final repair cost $0!! Our refrigerator is now very quiet, much to our delight. There were times when we could not deal with sitting at our kitchen table. So, justice was finally done. Call your factory authorized repair people and make them check the temps in the freezer. Kitchenaid needs to stand behind their substandard products. The repair people advised us that Kitchenaid will no longer pay for warranty calls based on noise. If their customers make them replace the expensive sealed refrigerant system enough, perhaps they will spend the extra $ to install better quality units from better quality suppliers. I was told by every tech rep that the quality of todays appliances have deteriorated significantly in recent years. The big companies wants your $, but dont care if they send you bad products. Thank you, I hope this helps many people.

On September 30, 2014 we purchased a Kitchenaide 42 side by side refrigerator, Model # KSSC42QVS06, Serial #K43809168, Sales #5508519 from Pacific Sales in Escondido, CA. When it was delivered there was a dent on the right panel. We were desperate to have the appliance as our other refrigerator had stopped working and we had had several hundred dollars food loss. So, we were told that we would be able to have the door replaced within a reasonable time without a problem and an appointment was made to have a local repair and parts company evaluate the dent and order a replacement door panel. On October 3, 2014 the local repair and parts representative wrote up an order for a new right side door panel. It is now December 28, 2014 and the panel has yet to be replaced! I have contacted the local parts people and have called Whirlpool directly without success. There seems to be no definitive date of replacement available. How can you possibly operate in such a manner and expect repeat business? What has happened to you integrity? Please let me know when we can expect a replacement door panel as soon as possible.

This refrigerator is just over 1 year old and it has stopped cooling 5 times. It is a defect that KitchenAid is aware of and they arent doing anything to fix it. They have an internal service bulletin on this issue. They send a repairman out and he replaces a part and 2 months later it stops cooling due to ice build up behind cold cut/vegetable drawer. They continue to make different repairs until your warranty is expired, then you are out of luck. KitchenAid knows they have a bad product. They dont have a permanent solution, yet they continue to sell this model. What kind of company does this? How do they get away with it? AN ATTORNEY NEEDS TO FILE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT! I am very disappointed and frustrated with KitchenAid customer service. We purchased a $2,300 KitchenAid refrigerator on 6/21/13 and after 10 months of use, it started leaking and making really loud noises. Our freezer does not work. Our ice dispenser does not work. The water tastes bad. Water leaking on the floor has warped our wood floors and we have had to discard meat, ice cream and other frozen food. When we contacted KitchenAid about our defective refrigerator, we were told to make an appointment with Dan Marc.Dan Marc came out for the first time in May, 2014. I took off from work and waited for the repair technician. When he inspected the refrigerator, he said that it was the ice maker compartment. He advised that the ice maker wasnt sealing and warm air was getting in, but that KitchenAid had fixed the sealing issue. He advised that he would order the replacement parts and that it would take care of the problem.A week later, Dan Marc finally rescheduled for 6/9/14. My husband took the day off from work and at 7:30 a.m., Dan Marc cancelled the appointment. I contacted KitchenAid to advise of the customer care offered by Dan Marc, as we were unhappy with them cancelling on the morning of the appointment and the fact that I have an unusable refrigerator. I was advised by KitchenAid that we would have to wait on Dan Marc.On 6/10/14, a different repair technician came to the house and installed 3 replacement parts. He installed 2 replacement parts on the ice maker and 1 on the deli drawer. I took the day off from work and the repair technician took about 2 hours. He again said that the problem was fixed and that the replacement parts would take care of everything. He advised that there was a problem with the original parts, as they did not seal properly. Because it did not seal, warm air got into the ice maker, causing the leakage and host of issues. He advised that KitchenAid was aware of the problem and had taken care of the problem in the replacement parts. On 6/10/14 and 6/11/14, the refrigerator continued to leak water all over, and the freezer and ice dispenser continued to not work. I again contacted KitchenAid and was told that Dan Marc would have to come back out again to my house. As frustrated as I was, I again contacted Dan Marc and made an appointment for the next day. On 6/12/14, Dan Marc sent a specialist to my house. I again had to take off from work and waited for the technician. The technician told me that it is the compressor. He advised that he would have to flush out the system and install a new compressor and evaporator. He said that the job would take a minimum of 4 to 5 hours. He also advised that there would be no guarantee that it would work properly with a new compressor and evaporator, as oil and gases were sucked in. He also said that these refrigerators should last about 10 years and not 10 months. On 6/19/14, a specialist from Dan Marc came to my house and replaced the compressor and evaporator. I had to take the day off from work and he was there for 5 hours. So, the problems continue - Water leaks everywhere in the fridge. Water leaks from ice dispenser. Freezer does not freeze properly. We again contacted KitchenAid and now they are sending Morris County Appliance to my house. On 7/8/14, Morris County Appliance came to my house. They said that there is a seal system issue and that compressor overheats. They do not believe fridge can be fixed. On 7/10/14, KitchenAid is forcing us to allow Morris County Appliance to replace more parts. We are clearly frustrated and need a solution from KitchenAid. We do not want a defective refrigerator, as we clearly paid for a brand new, $2,300 refrigerator. We now have a refrigerator with replacement parts and cannot continue to add replacement parts to a clearly defective refrigerator. KitchenAid was clearly aware that the seals on the ice maker compartment were bad, as the replacement parts were modified and have different seals. Knowing that there was an issue with their product, KitchenAid sold me a defective refrigerator and is not willing to stand behind its product. The refrigerator has clearly failed to meet expectations and it is unacceptable for me to have to keep a defective product. The refrigerator has repeatedly failed to meet the standards of quality and performance. I have not been able to use my freezer, have any ice made or drink any water for almost a month and KitchenAid wants to add another Band Aid, by adding more replacement parts. It is unacceptable for me to keep taking off from work and to wait at home for countless hours, when the refrigerator was clearly defective when I purchased it. In addition, the water leaking from the refrigerator has warped our wood floors and Ive had to discard bags of food. I am clearly stuck with a lemon and KitchenAid refuses to replace their refrigerator.

The fridge lost cooling because the evaporator behind the meat drawer would ice up and cold air could not pass up into the main compartment.

I purchased a French door refrigerator in October 2012 for approximately $2
I purchased a French door refrigerator in October 2012 for approximately $2,700. Exactly one year later in October 2013, the freezer went out. This took over 3 weeks to repair with the warranty offered. In that time the refrigerator also stopped working, so we were left with nothing to keep food in. EXACTLY one year later in October 2014, we are experiencing the same EXACT problem with the freezer. We are certain the refrigerator will go out in a day or two. We called the same service company that KitchenAid used and we have an appointment scheduled for 2 weeks in the future. Im convinced they only make these parts last for a year on purpose.

We purchased a high end KitchenAid side by side refrigerator in 2009, erron
We purchased a high end KitchenAid side by side refrigerator in 2009, erroneously believing that KitchenAid products were of high quality. Wrong! In 2014 the refrigerator failed and was not repairable. Fortunately we had purchased an extended warranty and it was replaced with a new one, same model. In September, 2019, the replacement failed and was again not repairable. These are junk refrigerators with junk warranties as they do not last long enough to take advantage of repair and parts warranties. As they say, To forgive once is to be human. To forgive twice is to be a fool. Dont be a fool and buy a KitchenAid (Whirlpool) refrigerator.
