Whirlpool Refrigerator Repairs
If you're looking for help fixing your Whirlpool Refrigerator, look no further! Our comprehensive Whirlpool Refrigerator repair guide will explain common issues, provide tips, and maybe show you how to repair your appliance.
For the home, kitchen and beyond, Whirlpool manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Whirlpool appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.
Whirlpool Refrigerator not cooling.
Condenser Fan Motor. The condenser fan motor draws air though the condenser coils and over the compressor. If the condenser fan motor is not working properly, the refrigerator won’t cool properly. To determine if the fan motor is defective, first check the fan blade for obstructions. Next, try turning the fan motor blade by hand. If the blade does not spin freely, replace the condenser fan motor. If no obstructions are present and the fan blade spins freely, use a multi meter to test the fan motor for continuity. If the condenser fan motor does not have continuity, replace it.
Whirlpool water dispenser is not working.
Water Inlet Valve. The water inlet valve opens to supply water to the dispenser. If the water inlet valve is defective, or if the water pressure is too low, the water valve will not open. The valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multi meter to test the water inlet valve for continuity. If the water inlet valve does not have continuity, replace it.
Whirlpool ice maker not working.
Water Inlet Valve. The water inlet valve is an electrically-controlled valve that opens to supply water to the dispenser and ice maker. If the water inlet valve is defective, or if it has insufficient pressure, it won’t allow water to flow through. As a result, the ice maker won’t make ice. The valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multi meter to check for power to the water inlet valve. If the water inlet valve has sufficient pressure and is getting power, but the ice maker won’t fill with water to make ice, replace the water inlet valve.
Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker is Not Dispensing Ice.
Dispenser Control Board. The dispenser control board governs most of the functions of the dispenser system. If the control board is faulty, it may stop supplying power to the entire dispenser system. If only one dispenser part is not working, test each of the dispenser components before testing the control board. It is more likely that a single part has failed. If the entire dispenser system is not working, the control board is more likely to be at fault.
Whirlpool Refrigerator not defrosting.
Defrost Control Board. The defrost control board determines how often to run the defrost cycle. If the board fails, the refrigerator will not go into the defrost cycle. Before replacing the defrost control board, first test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If the defrost heater and defrost thermostat are working properly, the defrost control board is likely defective.
Whirlpool Refrigerator is noisy or loud.
Fan Blade. If the refrigerator is noisy or loud, especially when one of the doors are opened, either the evaporator or condenser fan blade may be at fault. First, check out the evaporator fan blade in the freezer behind the back panel. Try turning it by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, check to see if the blade is rubbing against something or if something is caught in the blade. Additionally, check the condenser fan blade in the back underside of the refrigerator to determine if it has any obstructions.
Whirlpool Refrigerator defrost drain clogged.
Drain Heater. Some refrigerators are equipped with drain heaters. Drain heaters prevent the water in the drain pan from re-freezing and clogging the defrost drain. If your drain heater is defective or is not in the proper position, the defrost drain might freeze over.
Whirlpool Refrigerator is not Cooling, but the Freezer is Working.
Evaporator Fan Motor. The evaporator fan motor draws cold air over the evaporator coils and circulates it throughout the freezer. If the evaporator fan is not working, the freezer or refrigerator will not cool adequately. To determine if the evaporator fan motor is defective, try turning the fan blade by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, replace the fan motor. Additionally, if the motor is unusually noisy, replace it. Finally, if the motor does not run at all, use a multi meter to test the motor windings for continuity. If the windings do not have continuity, replace the evaporator fan motor.
Whirlpool Refrigerator is Leaking Water.
Water Filter Head. The water filter head might be cracked, or the seal may be torn or missing. Inspect the water filter housing for cracks. If you discover any cracks in the water filter housing, replace it.
Whirlpool Refrigerator freezing food.
Temperature Control Thermostat. The temperature control thermostat directs voltage to the compressor, evaporator fan motor, and condenser fan motor (if applicable). If the temperature control thermostat is not working properly, it may cause the refrigerant system to run longer than necessary. As a result, the refrigerator will be too cold. To determine if the thermostat is defective, rotate the thermostat from the lowest setting to the highest setting and listen for a click. If the thermostat clicks, it is not likely defective. If the thermostat does not click, use a multi meter to test the thermostat for continuity. If the temperature control thermostat does not have continuity at any setting, replace it.
Whirlpool Refrigerator ice maker overflowing.
Water Inlet Valve. The water inlet valve requires a minimum of 20 psi to shut off properly. If the water pressure is too low, the valve may not close fully once the power is shut off. As a result, the valve will leak water into the ice maker and cause the ice maker to overflow. Check the water pressure to determine if it is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, the water inlet valve is likely defective. The valve may not shut off all the way or may be stuck open, causing water to leak through the valve. If the water pressure is sufficient, but the ice maker is still overflowing, replace the water inlet valve.
Whirlpool Refrigerator light not working.
Light Bulb. The light bulb might be out. Replace the light bulb before replacing any of the other parts associated with the light bulb.
Whirlpool Refrigerator runs constantly.
Door Gasket. If the Refrigerator runs constantly the door gasket may be torn or defective, or if the door is not shutting tightly warm air can enter the the refrigerator and cause the evaporator coils to ice over. This happens because humid air from the room is drawn into the refrigerator through the opening at the gasket. As the humidity comes in contact with the cold evaporator coils it condenses and freezes. Normally the defrost system removes this frost and ice. However, if the door gasket is defective the evaporator coils ice over too quickly and the defrost cycle cannot keep up.

There is a chronic and well-known problem with recent French door, bottom freezer refrigerators sold by Whirlpool, including the the brand names KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Maytag, and Amana. The problem is caused when the defrost drain freezes, preventing defrosted water from reaching the evaporation pan. After enough water builds up, it overflows along the front of the refrigerator. In my particular case, we have wood floors and they were ruined by the water. After doing some investigation on the internet, I have learned that this problem affected approximately 1,500 model numbers sold under these names. These model numbers are listed in a Technical Service Pointer issued by Whirlpool. In August 2013, after experiencing several years of problems with these units, Whirlpool issued a Technical Service Pointer W10632338, advising service technicians that a new P Trap drain tube kit was now available, and suggesting that the defective duck bill check valve should be replaced by this new part. The problem for years had been that the rubber duck bill check valve would, over time, become sticky (or tacky) and would then not open - causing water to build up above it. Eventually, the water would freeze and since newly defrosted water could no longer escape, it would build up and eventually overflow. From what Ive seen online, plus a conversation with the Sears technician who come out to diagnose and repair my leak, I am convinced there are many thousands of customers who have experienced this problem. Because it takes a while for the rubber check valve to become sticky and no longer open, it is not uncommon for the problem to not appear until after the standard one-year warranty has expired. From reports, Whirlpool has sometimes acknowledged the problem and effected repair of refrigerators no longer under warranty. But what about those customers, like me, who have experienced water damage to floors and cabinets? Shouldnt Whirlpool be liable for those repairs, too? Id be interested to know if anyone knows of plans for a class action lawsuit.
I bought new townhome on 2018, in 6 months the top drawer broken, because stuck, after one year passed from the one year warranty start freezing all my groceries, milk, fruits. I turned off many times, not fixed. I am surprised paying so much money for appliances and turned out so cheap products and last only one year!? Older fridge last 10-15 years!! Companies ripping off people pockets. Very unhappy about this. Now services technician coming we have to pay for ....
What can I say. Pretty much a generic refrigerator that is manufactured and sold under various brand names. Nothing special. Keeps food cold. Ice maker takes too much freezer space but thats typical. Interior LED lights failed after a few months. Flicker sometimes. Out other times. Internet research finds this to be a common problem. Zero quality in Whirlpool appliances. I bought four Whirlpool kitchen appliances and ALL have had problems. The only way to own them is with a 5 year extended warranty.
Glad to know we are not alone in our disappointment with our Whirlpool French door refrigerator, but I am wondering what and when Whirlpool is going to do something about this. What a blow to their reputation. Goes to show things are not made as they used to be. We purchased our Whirlpool Gold French door (bottom freezer) in August of 2010. Here we are October 2012 and this is the third time it has stopped working. We have lost food, weekends waiting for repair people and cleaning up messes, and money. Same problem as others are reporting - the electronic board and controls. I just spent my Friday evening on the phone with Whirlpool, first explaining the problem to no result then waiting for a manager to call me back. Who (guess what?) never called. I finally called them and got the same script as the rest of you. It is outside the manufacturer warranty. Really, that is what you are giving me? Plus they will only look at it if we have a Whirlpool repair person come see it. When can they come? In 4 days! Ha, not likely. I am not giving this company another cent. We spent almost $2,000 on this fridge, all we are getting is 2, 3, 5 years? What a shame. We are fortunate enough to have had some space in our garage beer fridge for what I can save of the food. Our 7 years old, $300 Moffat fridge has been working like a charm. We will never again fall for the looks of a Whirlpool, let alone purchase another one of their appliances.
We purchased a new stainless steel Whirlpool refrigerator in February 2015. Within the first few days the fridge door handle broke off. Not that we have super human strength in our 60s but the handle connection is a very thin plastic. We put it down to the possibility that the warehouse or shippers may have banged it and perhaps we just didnt notice the initial crack. The handle was out of stock so it took 8 weeks before the new one arrived. This week the freezer door handle cracked! Same problem - cheap plastic handle connector doesnt withstand the vacuum seal. Whirlpools handle connection to the door is comprised of a 1/8th inch thick by 1/4 inch square piece of brittle plastic. This is screwed onto the door. In reality this needs to be metal. Enough said… Check out the handle connection before you buy this appliance. You will wait months for replacement parts as they cannot seem to keep enough of them in stock.
We just purchased a new fridge - September 2021 -- Whirlpool side by side. Why is just okay? It is a loud refrigerator. A roaring sound is pretty constant. The ice tray in the door has no recessed tray ... so water and melting ice just follow down the front of the door and onto the floor. Two days after purchase we went back to Lowes to return this fridge ... but all the other refrigerators do not have a recessed ice tray. And since they are not plugged in ... who knows if they roar.
I have purchased one refrigerator double door Mastermind 230 Ltr. capacity on 08/02/2009 at a price of Rs17200 from Himanshu Sales at Halol, Panchmahal, Gujarat. After one year, there was a problem in the refrigerator. My complaint was given to Himanshu Sales Halol. A service engineer came and replaced OLR and starting relay. I was charged Rs500. The bill was not given. Again cooling was not achieved. My complaint was given to customer car complain no. 22265 on 26/04/2011. Service engineer came on 10/05/2011 and reported that compressor get overheated. He has replaced compressor, capillary, gas, starting and overload relay and charged Rs1650. But compressor continued on, it does not cut off on temperature. I complained on 22/05/2011. Again service engineer came and replaced thermostat and charged Rs150. On 02/06/2011,again cooling was not proper. I complained on 05/06/2011. Service engineer came and advice to send the refrigerator to service center at Halol at our cost. After one week, it was sent back to me. Still ice not forming in freezer. We thought that it is due to summer. We also informed Himanshu Sales Halol. They advice to give complaint to customer care. Complaint was given on 28/11/2011. On 29/11/2011, a service engineer came and informed us that the compressor overheated. On 06/12/2011, the service engineer came with new compressor. He replaced the compressor, capillary, starting and overload. After gas charging, fridge was started. Still ice was not forming in the freezer and there was abnormal sound coming from compressor. Now we are tired to take service from Whirpool. I think this is a company defected piece, so send some senior authority to check the same and to take necessary action. Also due to this problem, my electricity bill got on higher side, and the purpose of the appliance is not solving. On 12/12/2011 at 11:30, the service engineer came and put some instrument to measure temperature at freeze on super cool mode and told that he and Samir will come to check the same. After that, compressor was in running mode up to 19:30 without cut off on temperature. Nobody has came to check,we called him. He replied that Mr. **, the regional head, will come tomorrow, 13/12/11. Still cooling is not achieved, We have registered complaint under complain no. AH1211007719 dated 13/12/2011.
This refrigerator well paid for itself. I had over 25 years and it was still in good working condition. I had to leave it behind. I moved to a place where fridge was already. I hated to leave it behind. ‘twas offered to Goodwill but they never answered the phone for it. I surely hope someone got it.
We got our Whirlpool french door refrigerator with freezer on the bottom (Model: GX5FHDXVY04) in June 2010. In the past six months, the refrigerator portion loses cooling and temperatures go to the 60s or 70s. We found out that by turning the unit off until it defrosts, it will work again for awhile. Weve had water overflow on our wood floor. When this happened the third time, I called Whirlpool to send a repair person. The person I talked to said it could be over $400 to repair and that it would be more economical to get an extended warranty for about $314, which I did. I did not receive the contract via email (it may have gotten lost in spam). The repair man came and said yes, this was a common problem due to a design flaw and that it needed a $6 part to make the water drain smaller - so that too much air didnt get in.It was May 1st before the repair could return to install it. This was done and we thought - expensive but its taken care of. Today, May 5th, the same problem happened and I have to throw away food again. Its the weekend and there is not a repair person available for two weeks - I got an order number and may request that the repair come sooner. To add insult to injury, I found out that the extended warranty is good only up to $450 and not good for any repair that might be needed in a year. Most of the repair goes to travel to get to Fairfield and labor and we have used most of the warranty already.
I have purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator and it has passed only 1.5 years and I have repaired it twice. The cost of repairing is also very high. Service charge is very high so I called a local party to solve the issue. They checked and found that a capacitor and a compressor relay is not working. They replaced the two and debited a cost of Rs.1500.
Just like hundreds (maybe thousands?) of others who have had the same part failure causing the refrigerator to leak, I had it and was told by my very honest, highly reputable repairman (not the one KA recommended!) that it was a DEFECT. I bought a French Door style #4609730. First, I complained on Twitter and the Social Media folks gave me the runaround. I kept it up and then, filed a complain with the Better Biz Bureau. They sent the complaint to Whirlpool, who owns KA. They gave me the runaround too - UNTIL I TOLD THEM HOW MY LOCAL TV NEWS station was interested in my story (true, I went to them too). CORPORATIONS SHOULD NOT GET AWAY WITH DIRTY BIZ TACTICS!
I brought a Whirlpool refrigerator on 2/15/2020, French doors. Bottom freezer. I have had issues with the bottom freezer from day 1!! Ive had gaps in the gasket seal and air was coming from the freezer. This happened 3x. Now there is a build up of frost and ice. STAY AWAY!! Ive never had any issues with Whirlpool until I purchased this updated refrigerator. I should have stuck with my regular top freezer refrigerator. No issues!!
Whirlpool Refrigerator: Model # WRT111SFDW - We bought this frost-free frig. in Feb of 2016 and this Feb. before the year was up, it started freezing up. I called the Co. and they sent a young man to my house to fix it and he thought he had. Well 2 wks after that it started freezing again and I called the Co. again and the same thing happened again and this was after my warranty had expired. Well then this young man came out and replaced the fan and a heating rod I believe to help it to stop freezing. Well 2 days ago it started freezing up once again. Im disabled and live on a fix income so now Ive got to figure out to get me another frig. And it WILL NOT BE A WHIRLPOOL REFRIGERATOR. But kudos to the Co. and the young man for trying to fix it even though it took 3XS and still not working.
Purchased 12/15/14 > Two weeks. Freezer 1/2 working, no cooling refrigerator. Contacted whirlpool, a service tech was sent out, tech contacted factory for assistance. Factory service had limited information on new production model, replacement part availability unknown. 48 business hours to conduct research. Six days to figure out what part to order/replace. No further assistance will be provided by whirlpool.
Please do not buy any Whirlpool product. Worst product and customer support. I got a new refrigerator on dec 2020, just after 1 month I started facing issues. I complained about that and 3 times they changed many parts. Still I am facing same issues. It doesn’t cool, makes too much sound. Every time I have to spend 30 mins in registering a complaint and sometimes they just close it on their own without even attending to it. So weird. Though the product is under warranty, it’s been more than 6 months that nobody has rectified the complaint. Even now my complaint is still pending. If I call customer support, they just provide some number and ask me to call them. Service representatives take their own time and not at all Serious about complaints. This kind of service they provide to customers. Beware of buying whirlpool products. Worst ever products and service.
We bought a new refrigerator when we bought our house in Dec. 2008. On the third of July 2015 my Whirlpool Gold stopped being cold. In fact it was a bit warm. Had a repairman out here today. Warranty expired and the compressor has failed. Wow! Im not happy.
I bought a Whirlpool model GI7FVCXWY00 over and under refrigerator directly from Whirlpool through DirectBuy on April 19, 2010. The unit was a relatively high-end model (over $2,000) that came with a 12-month warranty. Thirteen months after purchase and 1 month after warranty expiration, the ice maker stopped working flooding the kitchen in the process. We called Whirlpool who recommended one of their authorized maintenance subcontractors (GuinCo) to appraise the problem. GuinCo came out, diagnosed that a valve in the ice maker had gone bad and the repair cost us $364. We chalked that up to Murphys Law (repair needed immediately after warranty expiration). Not 4 months later, the kitchen comes up flooded again and again and the ice makers not working. We call GuinCo, the repairman come out and said this time that its a heater and ice maker defect which will cost $643 to repair. He also said that the unit has been designated as having a design defect. We held off on the repair until we could contact Whirlpool for some remediation since it has become obvious that the unit is a lemon. I called Whirlpool, laid out the problems, timelines and potential cost (ice maker failures are going to cost us almost half of what the entire refrigerator cost before the unit is a year and a half old) and the only response they had netted out to was: Sorry, you should have had extended warranty. This is a prime example of an American manufacturer, marketing an inferior product and offering the customer nothing when the lack of quality becomes obvious. I will recommend to anyone I know to stay as far away from Whirlpool products as long as I live.
Bought Sep. 2012. April 2016 stopped cooling. Four visits over 4 weeks, various parts replaced, coolant refilled. Stopped cooling again soon after first 3 visits. After 4th visit cooled moderately (42 degrees) for 5 weeks. June 24, renewed service contract for 1 year for $112. July 12, stopped cooling! Took 8 days for service person to arrive; 5 days for him to tell Whirlpool that repair needed 5 parts, one of which is no longer made! But they sold me a service contract?? 16 days after initial call, Whirlpool says my case is in adjudication, which will take 7-10 business days. So I wont know what they are offering till Aug. 8th-11th. Four weeks living out of a cooler. The product is rotten, and the service is worse.Just recently discovered that all this time when I thought I was talking to Whirlpool, it was actually sub-contracted to AIG. Yes, the AIG that needed a massive government bail-out. Whirlpool customer service refused to talk to me; referred me back to AIG. The only other all-refrigerator (no freezer - I have a 20-year-old Sears freezer in the kitchen that works just fine) I can find is an inch too tall for the space. But I plan to spend for my handyman to raise the cupboard floor above, rather than buy another Whirlpool! Most of May, four weeks in July/Aug without a fridge. Hours on hold. The first service firm they used was incompetent, couldnt find the cause. I wonder how much of my $1,353 purchase cost, and my $112 service contract theyll refund?
On July 30, 2009, we purchased a Whirlpool Gold French door refrigerator with the freezer drawer on the bottom. It was delivered on August 1, 2009. On August 3, 2009, the ice maker and water dispenser stopped working. After three unsuccessful service calls and the installation of various replacement parts, Whirlpool gave up the effort to fix the ice maker and water dispenser and delivered a new replacement refrigerator on October 15, 2009. Todays date is April 14, 2012 and here we go again, the ice maker and water dispenser stopped working. Luckily, I purchased a five year warranty on the unit. However, after reading all of the posts about fire hazard issues and other various issues with Whirlpool refrigerators, well probably go out and buy a new refrigerator and write-off the $2,500 that we spent for this refrigerator as a bad investment. We purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator based upon their reputation of providing sound products. However, based upon this experience, I can guarantee the folks at Whirlpool that our next refrigerator purchase will not be a Whirlpool product or a product of any subsidiary of Whirlpool.
I purchased the fridge 2nd hand in 2013. It was 10 years old at the time. It is still going strong & I purchased it because it has a frost-free freezer that never needs de-frosting and I love the features & size - its the PERFECT FRIDGE. What I look for in a fridge is its colour - I like metal, steel grey colour. I go for reputation & quality. Frost free is the biggest factor that determines my purchases, long-term (10-year min.) warranty & guarantee, size.
I Wish I had reviewed this refrigerator sooner. I bought a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator with ice and water dispenser in the door in 2016. Problem #1: Water leaks from the water dispenser and dribbles down the front of the door. I am as vigilant as I can be about wiping up the spills, but over time it has left a water stain. Stainless steel is not stainless! Problem #2: The freezer is too narrow. Too many frozen items that come packaged in boxes have to be wedged into it or stood on end. Problem #3: Ice cubes sometimes randomly drop out of the dispenser and melt on my hardwood floor. Problem #4: Even though the water is filtered, mineral deposits have built upon the well that collects the drips and I have yet to find any product that cleans it. It looks horrible and filthy. If Id had any idea how awful this appliance would look after just a couple of years, I would have been in contact with Whirlpool immediately.
I purchased a Whirlpool brand refrigerator from PC Richards two months ago. The compressor has stopped working causing my refrigerator to stop cooling and in turn all my food has gone bad. I reached out to P.C. Richards and they immediately credited me a check for the full amount of the refrigerator, with the option to get a new one delivered to me. I asked P.C.R. customer service if I would be credited for the food in my fridge and they suggested I reach out to the manufacturer. I reached out and, to my dissatisfaction Whirlpool will not credit me for the loss of the food in the refrigerator. I am completely disappointed. As I mentioned before I purchased the fridge 2 months ago. This is clearly a manufacture issue. I purchased a lemon and I am getting no support from Whirlpool customer affairs department. As a person who works for a reputable company in the purchasing department, I will see to it that we never do business with this company again. A company that doesn’t stand for anything or even compensates their customer for a faulty product should not be in business. Forgot to mention the customer affairs rep. Offered me fifty dollars for my troubles. Which I turned down. Besides the fact that fifty dollars will not cover a third of the items in my fridge, money is no longer the problem. It is the lack of customer service for purchasing one of their appliances. I am completely disappointed and will never recommend or purchase this product again.
We thought we were going to love it. It has two bottom freezers so the capacity is fabulous, but the ice maker location subtracts shelf space. Love the French doors, but we can never find anything quickly. The biggest issue is the popping noises it makes that are sleep stealing in the night.
Really pretty fridge... wish it was just a little smaller. Also wish matching appliances had grey sides like the fridge does. So far it has been a winner.
The fridge had been leaking just a little for a while until the leak picked up and left a puddle. Turns out this plastic tube connector cracked. Seems a very poorly designed fit that caused the bend in the plastic to rupture. Now the whole tube and what I think is the water inlet valve will need to be replaced.
We got what was a top-of-the-line Whirlpool Refrigerator about 10 years ago. It is still running, BUT all of the drawers have broken at least once and the door shelves no longer work. The replacement cost for each item is ridiculous especially considering how flimsy the items are. We decided to look at Whirlpool Refrigerators since the one we have is still running. They have changed absolutely nothing in the drawer or door design. It is all still very flimsy especially compared to the competition. I would strongly advise anyone looking for a fridge to look elsewhere, since, obviously, the quality of the interior is not a priority at Whirlpool. Avoid Whirlpool Refrigerators. The drawers and drawer shelves will ALL break since they have put no effort into fixing obvious defects.
This is a comment for the person with the ice maker problem. I have a side-by-side, in-door ice dispenser that clogs up. First sign of problem is either the ice wont come out or it comes out crushed. What happens is frost builds up in the path the ice takes at a couple of different points. The only solution I have found is as soon as the problem starts I turn off the ice maker using the switch on the inside of the freezer. Then let it empty with normal use (if you wait too long youve increased your problems). The release button for the ice bin has frozen by now so you cant just lift it out. The bin needs to be empty. When it is empty, work the bin loose and take it out. Youll find that frost and maybe cubes have collected, frozen and blocked the passage. Be sure to turn the ice bin on its side and spray water into the undercarriage to melt and remove all the ice build up there. I use a hot sponge to melt the frost in the ice tube and then dry everything. This gets messy so be prepared to have water on the floor. Dry the ice bin and reinstall it. Ice cubes will be ready to drop from the ice maker so it wont be long until you have plenty. I live in Florida with high humidity so need to go through this process about once a month. Its a pain, but now it is just part of owning this unit. Good luck and hope this helps.
Wish we had gone online to check all the complaints otherwise we would have NEVER bought a Whirlpool model #EB9FVHLVS. Only 3 years old. First repair call to fix a manufacturers faulty grommet manifested by leaking in the bottom freezer portion. Just outside the warranty - did not purchase extended. Now I know why retailers recommend the extended. My sister overheard the repairman call in the product to his contact at Platinum Appliance Service Inc., and he made direct reference to the model number in the category of Whirlpool products known to have this specific design flaw, and that the product was never recalled but customers were directed to purchase a repair kit to fix the problem. Apparently this became a very well documented and repeated incident within the 1-2 year purchase date of these products and models with the known factory installed defect were still sent out to retailers at a reduced cost with no reference, warning or attention to the factory defect. Now 4 months after the first call we have to call in for another repair issue because our light in both compartments and the motor shuts off for hours at a time. We lost about $80 in meat products, so now were afraid to keep any costly items in the freezer because we cant afford to replace a $100 of thawed products every week on top of groceries already bought!!! It seems as though Whirlpool is gleefully generating business for appliance repair while making more than one hole in the consumers wallet.
I bought this Whirlpool french door, bottom freezer refrigerator for $2100. In 10 years I have replaced the compressor three (3) times. Bad design and a real piece of crap! I was told by Sears that all Bottom freezer Whirlpool refrigerators are made by Amana. That is why I bought the frig. Ive had wonderful experiences with Whirlpool and Amana product in the past, but this time their design is so flawed.
I had to purchase a new fridge quickly due to a power surge and this was the only one available with features I wanted. It is too small, but thats not the fridges fault. Has worked well and easy to clean. Simple white fridge that Id recommend. Not expensive and for the past year+ dependable.
Another reviewer complained about a knocking sound upon startup. My Brand New fridge has been doing that and I have just ignored it. Maybe I shouldnt. Compared to our original Beaumark fridge, the Whirlpool is VERY NOISY.. Since the actual workings seem fine, I am not complaining but rather quite concerned.Especially after reading the numerous Negative Reviews.
French door style leaking water on the floor. Is Whirlpool covering the repair?
The plastic holding the vegetable drawers broke and now they are cracking because nothing is there to hold them in place. This fridge has a freezer on the bottom, which I like. Unfortunately, I had an Amana before this and it was wonderful- just old. I had to settle for a smaller refrigerator and that is part of the problem.
Model GB2FHDXWS04 - This refrigerator dumps water all over the floor at least 1 time a week. We just leave a towel on the floor to absorb it because you never know when it is going to happen. Have removed the stuff and cleaned all of the ice out of the bottom of the fridge but in no time it is back. What a crummy unit. I am going to drill a hole in the bottom of it and put in a drain I guess.
I am very reluctant with online product feedbacks. But here is one story that needs to be told. I purchased a Whirlpool 3D Split AC 2 years back (and hence the product is out of warranty). The product quality is so bad (and unreliable) that within 2 years the coils in the Outdoor Unit have started to leak. When I requested for service visit the technician (so called) came over and did a wet service and took the fee (without an invoice). And assured that the AC would start to work fine. Within a week we realized that the AC is not cooling enough. Again a service visit was called and this time the technician (supposedly) diagnosed the above problem. The repair cost told to me is to the tune of Rs 10,000/- for a product cost of Rs 36,000/- (or so) bought just 2 years back. Does anyone in Whirlpool understand what QUALITY means??? Does anyone understand VALUE FOR MONEY... This aside I have a 2 Tonne Whirlpool AC, 350 l Whirlpool DD refrigerator and a Washing Machine... I think its time for Move over WHIRLPOOL and HELLO MITSUBISHI, BOSCH, HITACHI... End of a great consumer brand...
Love my new fridge, not in love with the icemaker though. Every couple of days I have to reach in and scoop the ice off the little shelf in the back, or else it will quit making ice. The ice cubes block the arm from coming back down to trigger a refill.
WRF993FIFM00 refrigerator is a LEMON - I bought my $3000 refrigerator just after Christmas. In seven months, it has failed three times and I have been without a refrigerator for a cumulative 7 weeks so far. Each time it failed, I lost all my food, (but not until after wed been eating compromised food). If you buy a fridge, I strongly recommend getting a thermometer, because we learned the hard way that these Whirlpool units can just stop cooling properly and you wont necessarily notice that it is above the FDAs recommendations for food storage. Anyway, after each call they will make an appointment a week or two out for a tech to come out, who then orders the parts that take weeks to come in. Now, my third service call in and the SAME PARTS have failed again and I am again without any refrigeration and they have no idea when the parts will be in. This has been an awful experience, and Whirlpool could not care less. DONT buy their products, under any of their names. IT IS TIME FOR A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. Too many folks have spent a lot of money and have been burned by Whirlpool, not to mention becoming ill from improperly chilled food!
GX5FHDXVY04 French door fridge. Ice maker backup issue - which cause water to build up and leak out of fridge. Fix was a known issue with a rubber grommet - $100.00. Fridge stopped blowing cold air - control board - $293. Fridge stopped blowing cold air again! Getting Nowhere with Customer service... Whirlpool used to be a great brand. They have lost me as a customer, and by the looks of this board, Facebook page, I am not alone!
I bought a fridge from Sears located in King of Prussia, PA on February 1, 2011 model ED5LHAXWB02. The fridge was leaking from the water dispenser the day it was installed. The technician said it was normal and it will stop in 2 to 3 days. The leaking never stopped, multiple attempts has not solved the problem and the fridge has never stopped leaking. We have to keep towels under the water dispenser to prevent damage to our kitchen wood. Despite the problem existing from day one of delivery, a replacement or refund has been declined to us. Sears technical assistance was not able to remedy the problem, after a series of missed appointments. Sears technical service attempted to fix the problem without success and has not suggested any further solution. Sears technical service claimed that they have been in contact with Whirlpool. During the warranty period, we asked for a replacement or a refund. Nothing has been done. Whirlpool just provides lemons to their customers.
Whirlpool WRT351SFYW 21.1 Cu. Ft. White Top Freezer Refrigerator - Energy... puts out a very irritating high pitch noise, unlike my previous Whirlpool fridge. The old one was perfectly quiet. I believe Whirlpool is going downhill in every way. WP is buying refrigerators from 3rd world countries and slapping the name on them. The delivery people were very rude with me when I was unable to give them a tip, even though I had to supply my truck to shuttle the fridge up to my house and help them unload it. I also had to go and find them when they would not follow my directions to my house. So, they kept the wrench I loaned them; they did not have their own tools for the installation. And they refused to return it when I asked them to do so. Denvers Customer Service refused to respond in any way to my requests for information or complaints about the noise and delivery. Finally, their head office contacted me a month or two later, and the customer service person had initiated the discussion in argumentative attitude despite my saying I did not care anymore, I gave up on them and dont expect anything from Whirlpool anymore. While she told me that there are standard levels of acceptable noise that come from their refrigerator, while, she refused to acknowledge that they are not my standards, and I am the customer, besides, I had an older Whirlpool fridge that did not make any noise. I am sorry trusted WP, when I tried to upgrade the old fridge - it was an expensive downgrade! Buy LG or Amana - wished I did!
My refrigerator has needed several repairs in the 5 years since purchased new. Several plastic parts (bins, handle, etc...) have cracked and ice maker no longer works. Dont think I would purchase another Whirlpool major appliance if at all possible, as I am deeply dismayed at how this one has held up.
I installed my new water heater in 2012. Within 3 months, it was not producing hot water. When I called, a helpful person at the Whirlpool warranty line told me it was because there was too much cold water being mixed into the hot water coming from the tank. I hung up... Called again and was told that they would be able to get someone in 2 weeks out to my house to check it. I told them that was not acceptable. I hung up... I called Lowes, where I bought it. The person on the other line finally, after more than 1 hour, was able to get a repair person out there within 2 days. I had to pay the fee to have the guy come look at my hot water tank, and tell me that he hated Whirlpools. He called Whirlpool, 3 times; he was hung up on 2 times. He explained what had happened was I had a hot water leak, that it probably it was overloaded, the thermostat control everything else was fine. However, that I had installed the heater myself not a professional. Therefore it was not up to NATIONAL code; therefore, Whirlpool refused to honor the warranty. So, short version, in order to get the tank repaired, I was supposed to spend an additional $300-$400 to bring the heater up to code for them to honor the warranty. What you ask made my heater out of code? It is outside in my utility room, and the flue was cut to fit and the OUTSIDE vent pipe was not above the roofline. It didnt matter that it is not in an enclosed space, that this was nothing to do with the reasoning the thermocouple went out.I simply turned up the heat, so far so good. Will I ever buy another Whirlpool? No. I have a Whirlpool fridge bought before the hot water tank situation. The ice maker went out within 6 months of purchase. When I called to have it repaired, the service guy stated he hates Whirlpool. The piece he had to replace was plastic that was replaced with a metal piece that should have been metal to begin with.
Plastic comes off drawer when you pull it out! Trim around glass cracked. Drawers cracked. My drawer literally has a hole in it! Warranty doesnt cover that! When checking reviews on amazon people all had same complaint and when they reorder product it does the same thing. This fridge was purchased less than a year ago! I purchase it from Discount Direct, a Costco outlet store!
I purchased a new Whirlpool refrigerator, side by side in August 2013. The ice maker made ice but the size of the ice was much smaller than usual, however we lived with it. Soon it only made about a handful of ice a day, which defeats the purpose of an ice maker. So we called the store we bought it from and they sent a repairman. The problem was not solved until about the 4th visit from the repairman. I was told there was no problem with our ice maker from the first 3 repairmen. In the meantime the refrigerator side started pooling water in the bottom under the bin... Had to call again for that problem (they fixed). Now the door is showing rust under the handles. I have contacted Whirlpool and they have told me thats too bad, but they dont have to do anything because read the fine print, it is not their problem and thank you for being a Whirlpool customer. I am very disappointed in this supposedly good company... Is this corporate America? Never again will I buy Whirlpool.
This 29.5 cu foot fridge will not keep a steady temperature and it has had 5 Warranty visits in its first 3 months since new. It has had several Large components changed out including the Freezer door, water valves, electronic boards, gaskets, and more. I was NOT able to get it labeled as a lemon and returned to Lowe’s simply because I accepted Warranty work to be done in the first 30 days which then disables any chance to return the unit. If I had asked for it to be returned in the first 30 days with the First bad issues I could have. Now I am stuck with it and I dislike the fridge and will never buy another Whirlpool or any other appliance from Lowe’s.
I purchased new and installed my heater in 2003. SN: 0253109845, MN: EE3J50RD0454. I started removing and replacing or cleaning heating elements in 2011: pretty good service. In 2015 I noticed black and brown water coming from the hot water taps. I opened it again, cleaned it, and realized anode replacement was required. That is when trouble started.I tried everything usual including 4 foot cheater bar, heating the coupling, impact wrench, tapping with a hammer, etc. Finally found a 700 ft-lb. pneumatic impact wrench on sale at Harbor Freight. After serious wear and tear on my air compressor and about 1-1/2 hours of work with the impact wrench, I got it out. The threads were messed up some, but I did not look close. I had to put the 1-1/4 inch head back in to return it to service while I found and ordered an anode. Could not get one from Whirlpool and could not buy one in Lowes where I bought the heater. The surprise was when I cleaned the threads to put the head back in, I had to use almost as much time and torque to get it to stop leaking as I did when I took it out. Then, when I did try to install the new anode, it required to same effort. Conclusion, There was some kind of imperfection with the threads in the coupling that messed up the threads on the initial installation of the anode, which made it nearly impossible to remove. Whirlpools quality control stinks. The next one will NOT be Whirlpool.
Whirlpool fridge with serial # EL2427127 started on fire. Flame started on own but filled entire basement with electrical fire smoke. All terminals on compressor completely melted off. After researching online, I see Im not the first. Unbelievable.
Whirlpool Upright Freezer Model EV205NXTN01 – The freezer door interior plastic panel bows away from freezer cabinet causing door gasket not to seal. The new gasket doesnt help since the groove of the gasket mounts in bows outward with the interior plastic panel in the door. The freezer is 20 months old now and had the door replaced for the same reason at 10 months old. Now, Whirlpool says sorry it’s out of warranty. Guess they want me to buy a new door every year. I wont be buying Whirlpool products anymore as I dont need another boat anchor.
We purchased a new side by side black finish refrigerator. There is a design flaw in the water/ice dispenser. The bottom of the dispenser has no edge so any drops of water run down the front of the refrigerator! This leaves constant watermarks down the front. 2. The finish scratches very, very easily. I would not recommend this finish to anyone with children or pets. When you open the door if your ring touches the surface it will scratch it! There was NO user manual on care and I used paper towels to clean. Big no no, as now I have fine scratches on the front. I would never buy this product again because of these flaws. I have a 7 month old refrigerator that looks 7 years old and it is just my husband and myself! Love the inside, hate the outside.
Do not bother purchasing Whirlpool refrigerators. Bought mine new in November. The paint on the exterior has been chipping. They inform me that its a cosmetic issue and that they are not going to repair it. They told me to use touch up paint. The paint has chipped more than once and Im afraid this is going to be an ongoing issue. Its obviously a product defect (my last fridge lasted 27 years without incident). I dont do business with companies who dont stand behind the products they manufacture. These days its all about get their money and the hell with them once we do. Last time I purchase anything Whirlpool.
Have a warranty with them to get reimbursed for repairs for a year. Have had to use it twice now for the same part. Customer service told me itd take two weeks to get a certified repairman of their choosing to be reimbursed. Two weeks to go without a fridge is their solution and they have no other repairmen working. So I ask to speak to a supervisor and the representative tells me she wont transfer me out because thats the way it is. Paid out of pocket to get it fixed immediately instead of waiting.
How would you like to be without a refrigerator for 10+ days? How do you justify 10 days without a service tech being available for what I call an emergency! Either you need to hire more technicians or make BETTER products. My suggestion is have a supervisor go out to a call first and access the problem. My case, a tech shows up after waiting 10 days, to tell me my refrigerator needs all the parts. Which means Ill have to wait probably another 2-3 weeks for the parts to arrive. Im sure the parts werent ordered to be expedited. Im beyond furious. We lost everything in our freezer. Doesnt stay frozen in coolers. When we purchased the refrigerator, just under two years ago, the service tech was out three separate times because our ice maker kept going on the blink. Finally, I purchased ice maker, because your refrigerator only makes ice when it wants. Not reliable! Second problem, the lights in refrigerator & freezer went out. Real smart to install LED lights that can only be replaced by a technician. Insane for the consumer. (Cost of lights replaced w/o warranty contract is $100). DONT BUY WHIRLPOOL PRODUCTS UNLESS YOU ENJOY MISERY!!Why would you put glossy black finish on front of refrigerator, and the sides have black texture, where you cant see fingerprints. Has to be cleaned daily! Hope you can rectify the problem before two more weeks pass. Model: WRS322FDAB. SERIAL#: HR72710418. Not a fan of your lemon of refrigerator. You can also view this on your customer reviews WHIRLPOOL.
Last December our refrigerator began to freeze food - gallons of milk, bowls of food, and produce. I called Whirlpool: Of course the warranty had expired. It was suggested we turn the unit off back on to reset the computer. We did this for 2 or 3 months and eventually it worked properly. We were gone for 12 days, now the icemaker has stopped and all food is frozen. I called - they will send a tech for a minimum of $95. Read how many trips are usually made before a problem is solved. Cheaper and more logical to buy another unit from anyone but Whirlpool.
I purchased a side by side Whirlpool refrigerator in December 2009. In one year’s time, all of the plastic shelving has completely broken. The repair man said that he felt like the plastic was substandard and to call Whirlpool but they said that we must have abused the shelving.I and my husband are senior citizens and the only ones using this refrigerator. How can all the plastic components break within one year? I had my last refrigerator for over 10 years and I gave it to my son. It is still running and all the plastic shelving is still intact.I feel Whirlpool should fix this problem but they do not care about their customers. Once they have your money, you are forgotten. In the end, they will be forgotten because I advise everyone I know not to buy from Whirlpool.
Have had this Whirlpool for 17 years at least. Only issue we’ve had with it was the ice maker that went out after about 14 years. There is plenty of space in the door. A place that holds cans, 2 shelves that go across the door, a small shelf and a butter shelf with a lid over it. Nice looking too.
This refrigerator was already part of the appliance package that came with the property. I dont think if I had a choice, I would choose this brand. The stainless steel finish has rust spots, the top shelf has cracked and it is less that 5 years old.
Updated on 07/09/2020: This fridge freezes produce. A part was replace to solve this problem but it has never worked properly. After several attempts to correct temperature fluctuation, Whirlpool decided it was working within their specs and advised us to set the temp higher to solve the problem. So we are doing that but now if the temp is too high the ice is watery and falls out of the ice compartment when we have finished using the ice dispenser. So we lower the temp and it again freezes the produce. Do NOT buy a Whirlpool!!! If you have any questions look at whirlfreezefood story...Original Review: Purchased September 2019. Worked for a couple weeks and then Freezes the produce. I have put it in the center drawer and in the main fridge still freezes. Go to ** for full story and recording of a message Whirlpool left me.
Sept. 2011 purchased new Whirlpool bottom freezer model GX2FDXVA03 and in Dec. 2015 had to replace it after paying for 2 service calls, last time was told cant be repaired. First found ice in bottom of freezer which was caused by Whirlpool installing a rubber nipple at bottom of drain line with such a small opening it clogs quickly. Couple years after that stopped working had to replace circuit boards, now its leaking Freon and no way to be repaired. If you call Whirlpool all you get is big circle of feel good call centers. Best offer was discount on new refrigerator. Told the person Why would I want to spend another $1300 on junk?
Whirlpool refrigerator is 2 years old and has LED lighting. Light went out in freezer and dimmed in refrigerator. Requires a technician to replace them with 3 hours of labor due to wiring. Total cost parts and labor $700. Whirlpool has a one year warranty and was unwilling to repair at their cost. Warning - do not purchase any refrigerator with LED lighting that requires a technician to replace the lights.
I purchased a Whirlpool Gold refrigerator in May 2012 and about 8 months ago, ice started to form in the freezer. The ice melts and water drains out, so when you come in the kitchen all of the sudden you step in a puddle of water. I called CS and they told me the best they could do was authorize part(s) and the labor and service call would be my responsibility. Everyone knows service cost way more than parts.
My fridge is less than a year old. Ive had issues with the part where the ice comes out to fill the trays. Now, I have no ice at all!! My product is less than a year old and this will be the third time Ive had to have someone out to fix it. I called corporate to ask them to stand by their product and ask them at what point they would just replace the whole fridge! The girl I spoke to never once said, Im sorry for your inconvenience! I now have to go without ice for a whole weekend and again wait around from 1-5 p.m. in Arizona with four kids to have ice!!! NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!
Purchased this 27 cubic ft French door bottom freezer fridge (WRF757SDEM01) in Sep 2016. Approximately 8 months after, fridge stopped cooling. Called Whirlpool for service diagnosis since fridge was still under warranty. Service tech stated coils were freezing over due to part malfunction and part needed to be replaced and ordered. He provided me with a temporary fix by defrosting all the ice from the coils since the part would take approximately two weeks to come in. I spent an entire day of annual leave from my place of employment for this service call!!! New part was replaced and fridge was cooling like it was supposed to.Here again six months after the part replacement, my fridge was doing the same thing again; NOT COOLING my food AND there was this awful noise coming from the area in which the part was replaced. That drove me CRAZY to the point I would turn it off in short increments to maintain my sanity. I called whirlpool AGAIN, and this time, my fridge is NOW out of warranty, BUT, the replacement part of five months prior should still be in warranty. My fridge failed the day after Thanksgiving and five days after the fact, the service tech will be at my house again.Worst part of this is I took an entire day off work expecting the service tech to come between 8-12 as told to me by the whirlpool customer service rep and guess what? The company called at 1000 and said they only do appointments in my area in the evenings. I was furious; again another day of employment missed at the hands of Whirlpool. I am not confident that the same part that was replaced in May is defective and I may be going through spouts of an inoperable fridge again and again. Whirlpool really needs to take a hard look at recalling these fridges OR providing quality appliances for the money that we pay. I had GE appliances in my old house and NEVER had issues with the refrigerator. My new builder choose whirlpool and made the wrong choice! I just want a refrigerator that will work operate for the $2100.00 that I paid. I will NEVER recommend whirlpool appliances to anyone... Never!!!
It started getting warm and wasnt getting any warmer. Model number ED2VHEXV001 22 cubic feet side by side. I read another review and it sounds just like mine, OMG. It better just need something, its less than three years old. I am not happy and I always bought Whirlpool, my first trouble with it.
If you are in the market for a new refrigerator, STAY AWAY from Whirlpool Top Freezer models. Mine just failed after only 5 years and Whirlpool will NOT do a thing about it, except ask, Did you buy the extended warranty? The compressor in my refrig was made in Mexico by a company called Embraco. I used to work for Whirlpool and these compressors were garbage then, and I guess still are, in my opinion. The 5 year sealed system warranty was removed from these refrig years ago and I can only assume this is why. If you want the 5 year SS warranty, buy a side by side or French door model. Just be sure it doesnt have an Embraco compressor on it! And while I am not a believer in them, planned obsolescence dictates you probably should buy the extended warranty/service plan for such a purchase. Dont rely on positive past experience, even for a company like Whirlpool. Their gold ring of promise emblem is very tarnished for me now.
Ive owned this Whirlpool, bottom freezer refrigerator for two and a half years now. About a year ago I began to notice water on the floor in front of it. I had the ice maker hooked up, which I never used, so I disconnected that. The problem continued. I discovered that the bottom of the freezer compartment would fill with ice and once full the next dose of water would flood the surrounding floor. I have cleared the ice out, on a weekly basis, but have still had the water flow onto my floor. Its a daily thing now as Ive gotten tired of pulling the unit out and removing the ice build-up on a weekly basis. My replacement refrigerator will not likely be a Whirlpool of any model.
Refrigerator stopped cooling... Paid $200 to have it diagnosed... Cost more than a new refrigerator to get fixed...$14,000. Refrigerator was 7 years old, energy star. How can it be energy efficient if it was made to last only seven years? How much energy is wasted making new ones to replace the broken ones, that cost too much to fix. Energy star. What a scam.
I purchased a refrigerator Model# WRF736SDAW12 on 8/9/14 and from day two, Ive had nothing but problems with the ice maker. We NEVER use crushed ice, but we get a lot of crushed along with cubed and crushed/shards of ice all over my fridge, hands and floor. My daughter (wearing her heels) already slipped and fell while walking past the fridge, not realizing that there was ice lying on the floor because my floor is light/multicolored, so we cant see the ice. After several calls, the repair person replaced all the components of the ice maker and the repair person was told (2/26/15) from the Whirlpool tech that we would just have to live with the problem because its normal and he was advised to tell me to get a larger glass. The repair person looked at my glass, seeing that it was already large, shook his head and said Whirlpool must want me to start using a bowl to catch all the ice. I couldnt believe it?! I bought this fridge expecting to receive ONLY cubed ice and yet I dont, so Im sure why they put that cubed feature on there when I cant utilize it. I only want a little ice, but the first thing that comes out is the crushed ice, and in order for me to receive more cubed ice, I have to fill up the entire cup that includes the crushed/shards of ice which floats to the top and ends up in my mouth. Thats the purpose of me selecting cubed, so I dont have to drink it!After the repair man left, I called customer service (2/26/15) and she told me that ice gets stuck in the chute?, so thats why I get crushed ice, but its normal she says. How is that normal? Please read all the reviews/complaints from both the Whirlpools and on Home Depots website for this model and you’ll see this is a problem, there is a flaw in the design.I cant believe a big company such as Whirlpool would treat me so poorly and brush me off like this. After the many posts I put on their Facebook page, they over and over say they will be in contact with me. I have yet to hear from them. I found another story on Pissed Consumer where a senior fell due to the ice falling all over the floor, so its not just me that it has happened to. Theyre putting people in a hazardous situation and they dont care.I have an autistic son who gets ice constantly, I can’t supervise his every move and I’m not able to keep up with his dropped ice nor can he remember to look down for it. I’m concerned that next time my daughter falls; she won’t be so lucky and could sprain or break something. How about my visitors? Do I worry about them suing me when they fall? I’m not so annoyed at the fact that I step on water with my dry socks or the 24/7 noise from the motor or the left door not shutting all the way than I am with the safety of my family.
We bought a new brand Whirlpool, ice berg, 2 door refrigerator in 2006. It worked fine for 6 months and then started giving all the problems. Until now, we have repaired it at least 10-15 times with company servicemen and also private repair shops. We are just so tired and frustrated will all that we have gone through because of this fridge. Today, the main door just came out and it is probably the 16th incident. We are hardworking people and take a lot pleasure and find lot of happiness in buying something new. It took us almost 2 years to save money for this new fridge with cost us about Rs. 20,000. But I should mention this that we have already more than Rs. 10,000 in repairs.I am sure this would just be another email in one of your inboxes but wanted to write this and convey the message that we are hurt. We do not want to take any legal actions as middle class men in India do not have the resources to do that. But I would surely not buy anything of your brand going forward and would not suggest anyone for it. Writing this in assumption that you understand the pain middle class men goes through to but something worth Rs. 20k and spends another Rs. 10k for repairs. We had high expectations from your product but that was not to be.Following were the problems we face in last 4 years: 1. Refrigerator not cooling (5-7 times); 2. Top door broken (1 time); 3. Main door broken (1 time); 4. Water leak problems (5-7 times). I hope someone will read this and forward it to concerned department.
Have had Refrigerator less than two years and the evaporator seal is leaking and all the Freon is gone causing the freezer and ice maker to quit. Will cost $700 to repair. Found out it is a known defect with Whirlpool. Called Whirlpool for reimbursement and they refused, saying they do not know anything about this issue. This is interesting since it is all over the Web with complaints. I have been a customer of Whirlpool for 20 years and they have lost me and everyone else I know.
I purchased a small dorm size fridge from Target after our electric went off and was gonna be off for a while and we purchased this to run with a generator and its 110 power also but this is a super little fridge and I would definitely would buy again.
1st item - ice pooling at bottom of freezer, now repaired at a cost of $100. 2nd item - 1 day later fridge/freezer keeps shutting off and on irregularly. Cant contact anyone one from Whirlpool on a weekend and Trail Appliances doesnt have anyone available to come and look at it and if they did it would cost us another $100+ with no guarantee and we were told by Trail the Whirlpool will not touch it if someone else does. From what I have read seems we now a victim of Whirlpool. P.s. for those who dont know yet Whirlpool not only now owns Bastemp, they also are the makers of Kenmore and those fridges have experience the same ice issues.
Dont buy their produce!!! My refrigerators bought in January 2017 and just use 9 months. It breaks and repairs 3 months. It cannot repair and Whirlpool will refund for me, but I wait long time and no any answer. I try to call Whirlpool customer service. Their staff hold me long time and tell me they will be call back... Oh my God!!! I left my refrigerators 3 months ago. Whirlpool did not care the customer. Terrible company!!!
ET8AHKXRQ00 - Contacted store where purchased brand new in box, also contacted Whirlpool Corp., was told no repair nor replacement could be offered. Paid $1,500.00, freezer still works but lower box stopped exactly 7yrs after manufacturing date and purchase. A lot of $ to pay for a refrigerator that costs more to repair than large purchase price. I am extremely upset with this situation and brand.
I will be brief. Bought Whirlpool ref. model #WRF560Smywo4 on April 15, 2016. The refrigerator quit work July 29, 2016. Called Whirlpool. They responded they had no repairman in our area. After several calls they scheduled a repairman. He came and put on a part. It did not work. Called Whirlpool again. They sent the same repairman. He stated it needed a new compressor. A week later he arrived with the part (August 12, 2016). As of now the refrigerator is working. Now this was two (2) weeks without a refrigerator. This has been a bad experience. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER WHIRLPOOL APPLIANCE AND RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT PURCHASE ONE.
I bought a Whirlpool/Fridge Freezer Model WRF560SMYM 01, less that two years ago. Two months ago it started making a terrible noise. Apparently the freezer was iced up and a mechanic defrosted it. It happened twice more and he left saying he could not fix it. Another arrived and took the model number and he disappeared. A third the same. Now I have an empty freezer, just an ice maker. It seems to not freeze up so quickly with the moisture control on. Over $2,000 down the drain unless somebody can fix it. Oh and the fridge gets very cold! Does anyone have any ideas apart from throwing it out and buying another? Never another Whirlpool!
I had the Whirlpool side by side GSC25C4EYW00 less than a year. The vegetable bin - 2nd from the bottom - front panel broke off. No wonder, there are 2 tabs holding it to the rest of the bin. Its cheap, brittle plastic. Come on, Whirlpool, you have to do better. What a disappointment. Dont buy one.
If you are searching for a top freezer refrigerator that works and keeps the food cold, do not buy this brand. I recently ordered a brand new refrigerator from Home Depot, the Whirlpool brand. It was set to standard factory settings, and I let it sit plugged in for 24 hours as required. The fridge was remaining in between 45 to 50°F, and I let it run for another 24 hours after filing a complaint and talking to the people at Whirlpool. The fridge still cannot get beneath 40°F, though the freezer seems to be okay. I spent almost $1000 on the refrigerator, and I’m very disappointed in the quality that this supposedly good brand produces. I went on Facebook marketplace, found an old 1995 Kenmore and bought it for $50. It works so much better than this brand new, fancy looking refrigerator, because back decades ago is when they actually took the time to make quality products, and didn’t make the crap that they do now that breaks down instantly or after only a few years. Unfortunately, and my researching has confirmed this, appliance manufacturers today create bad quality products that break down shortly in order that you will have to purchase more of their products after only a few years. Refrigerators used to last decades, now you’d be lucky if they lasted maybe 8 to 10 years. Trust me on this, don’t waste your time on this brand. A refrigerator should have no problem on factory settings getting at or below 40°F within 24 hours. DON’T BUY THIS JUNK!
I bought Whirlpool fridge in 2013 and as of today I am on the fifth ice maker. Unfortunately I did not get the extended warranty. It was purchased At Lowes Model number GZ25FSRXYY2. Do not buy this fridge. I called Whirlpool to complain and got sorry we cant help. Can you say LEMON?
Ice maker has stopped making ice on several occasions. Also when you try to get ice out of the door dispenser, it will continues to release ice but will not go down the chute and when you open refrigerator door it spills out all over the place. Getting ice other than from the door is no easy task. I have taken to putting a bowl under the ice dispenser. Interior of refrigerator is not user friendly for positioning items. Bought in a hurry back in 2017 and have regretted it ever since.
We purchased a Whirlpool Refrigerator Model Number WRS555SIHZ06 Serial Number HRA2506806 on July 15th 2021 from Lowes. First one from Lowes came off the truck damaged so working out of a cooler in the kitchen for 2 more weeks. Now 4 months later the compressor is out and all the food spoiled like $400 bucks gone and food is expensive these days. I called and Whirlpool said no food allowance and no replacement. Fridge can be brought over - so repairman will come out in 6 days and then say he has to order parts then I wait two more weeks then the repair. So 3 weeks without a fridge with the holidays coming up and people to feed and food to cook. This is going to be interesting. I hate Whirlpool Refrigerator - never again will I purchase one of this appliances. The GE I had for 12 years and no problem at all for 12 years. What is going on with these companies????
Multiple issues with this two-year-old refrigerator. Do not buy! The exterior stainless steel doors rust in sporadic locations. According to a quick google search, it is a widely known issue that Whirlpool has not addressed. We have never used abrasive cleaners, only wipes that are made for stainless appliances. We use them on all of our stainless appliances. The fridge is the only one that now has 10+ areas of pitting rust. It continues to spread! What the heck?Secondly, the ice maker stopped working at 16 months. First it was just the auger that stopped turning. Which was inconvenient but not the end of the world. It still produced ice, but we had to open the door and pull ice out instead of having it dispensed. Now it has stopped producing ice altogether. We had the repair guy out today. Apparently, the motor for the auger and the actual ice maker are not receiving power any longer. The certified tech said it was either the main control board or bad wiring somewhere from the control board to the ice maker. For a small fortune, we can try putting in a new board. If the new board doesnt work, we will then know it is a wiring issue. If it is a wiring issue, we will have paid for a new board that was not needed, and we are out of luck completely on the wiring issue. Part of the wiring is sealed within the freezer door. A new freezer door costs nearly as much as the fridge. Part of the wiring is sealed in the back of the fridge. It is impossible to open the seal without breaking the fridge, because the back is a sealed system. But it does keep our food cold. Just dont put anything the top shelf of the fridge because it will freeze. Thanks for the 1 year warranty Whirlpool! You timed it perfectly! What a joke.
Water filtration unit was leaking only when someone got water. It pooled into the bottom of fridge and ran out under the fridge and because of the slope of the floor was running back towards the wall. We didnt notice until our laminate wood flooring was starting to swell up. It was probably leaking since the day we bought fridge brand new, but took us 4 months to notice. Whirlpool said they will not fix our flooring, only the fridge. We had to make a homeowners claim which we did. When the contractor moved the fridge back after replacing all flooring it starting leaking from the ice maker unit. Only when the ice tray filled it would gush out water. Our flooring is now ruined a 2nd time and Whirlpool will not fix the floor. Repairman said that Whirlpool used rigid parts in the water and ice maker units and tons of people are having the same problem. Since there is no flexibility in these parts they break when the fridge is moved. Whirlpool sucks and I am fighting with them and Lowes to get this fridge replaced with a non Whirlpool appliance. I will never buy Whirlpool again.
Whirlpool French Door 32 Cu. Refrigerator - Purchased refrigerator Nov 2016. Never worked, never cooled. Called Sears and was told to call Whirpool. Had to then wait 1 week for repair company to send out service tech. He determined it was unrepairable. A replacement was delivered. The replacement started flooding the interior down the back, filling underneath the bottom drawer and down into the freezer (ruining everything in the freezer) and out onto the floor. Called Whirlpool and had to wait another week for a tech. They assessed the problem and left. I was told it would be fixed within the week, that theyd call when the parts arrived. 3 weeks later, no word. Called Whirlpool, the parts were on backorder with no ETA. Two weeks later the parts were expedited, after I called again crying, and a tech came out again to fix the flooding. Two weeks ago the fan started to make a very loud noise and the internal temperature started to fluctuate and finally settled between 55-60+. Everything was ruined, again. This refrigerator is defective. Whirlpools customer service is deplorable. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM WHIRLPOOL!!! They dont care that they make and sell defective crap. They dont care about how much money and time youve lost because of their defective merchandise. You have to have a service repair person come out at least 3 times before theyll even consider a replacement unless the repair tech considers it unrepairable even if it never really works or if the parts take weeks to be delivered. They DONT CARE about anything. Worst part is that I have no power or recourse. No one will help me. I was told today by the Sears Customer Relations to hire a lawyer. :( This is so wrong.
I have a Whirlpool french door unit with ice & water through the freezer door. I recently noticed rust in the ice. When the extended service plans tech came to see it he told me that the ice bucket would have to be ordered. Almost a month later, I called him and was told that rust isnt covered. I understand that surface or cosmetic rust shouldnt be covered, but rust in a place where it can be ingested is different. Anyway, I called Whirlpool directly and a very nice phone rep agreed with me and asked her supervisor. Needless to say, I just sent Whirlpool a letter stating that I would pursue this through legal channels if I dont get satisfaction.
We built a new house less than 2 years ago that included maple hardwood floors and upgraded Whirlpool appliances. The ice maker jams frequently, fresh vegetables freeze despite raising the temperature to 45 degrees and 2 service calls that didnt fix this. The latest problem is the worst. Ice built up in the bottom of the refrigerator and leaked out destroying our solid maple flooring. They are coming out again to service the problem, but who is going to pay for our swollen cupped floors?
I am questioning my loyalty because the last two Whirlpool fridges have been repair prone, and have bad design issues for ice dispensing. The dispenser door doesn’t close reliably and lets the ice maker warm up and melts the ice. This supports my rating.
We have purchased 4 refrigerators in the past 20 years. The first three were not Whirlpool and were a constant issue for us. Once we purchased the Whirlpool, we no longer had issues. We have the side by side with a freezer at the bottom. This model has performed exceptionally well for us and hasnt presented any issues for us. I would highly recommend it to family and friends, thus the rating of a five.
Stainless steel rusted in under six months - Purchased all new Whirlpool kitchen appliances in March 2013. In July 2013 finish on both refrigerator doors and freezer door was covered with tiny rust spots. The finish was obviously defective. Contacted Whirlpool, sent photos and was told the damage was cosmetic and not covered by warranty since it didnt happen within 90 days of purchase. Ice make did not work right from day one. Finally paid to replace it myself and repairman said Whirlpool discontinued the style of ice maker I had because they had so many complaints.
Purchased a Maytag refrigerator in 2009. Was told Whirlpool bought out Maytag, never had a problem with it ever! Speed up to 2012. Purchased another refrigerator this time a whirlpool. HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH IT! This is the 3rd or 4th time the veggie/fruit drawer POS plastic track has broken. I purchased the extended warranty after a year and in addition to the above, had a new ice maker replaced, and a part in the freezer as the freezer wasnt freezing. So I called them to replace the drawer plastic track again and they say that its a cosmetic problem and they wont cover it. Are you kidding me??? It holds the drawers in for crying out loud! Also told the repairman that the ice gets clogged in the dispenser and either 1) melts all over the place or 2) comes pouring out when you open the doors. He tells me that its best to just use the ice cubes and not the crushed. Again... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Thats why I paid so damn much money for this one as I wanted crushed ice! There should be a recall on this appliance. Repairman says all the models with the icemaker on the left side have problems with freezing and when inquired about my lettuce freezing and getting wilted or brown, he says that the humidity buttons are really only for looks and dont have a purpose!!! Believe you me... I will be sharing this on social media of all types to get this resolved. WHIRLPOOL BIGWIGS LISTEN UP! YOUR PRODUCT STINKS!!! Since we were gone on Friday when the call came in that they called it cosmetic on the drawers you bet Ill be giving these extended warranty people a call too tomorrow! Also dont say we have too much in our drawers because theres barely anything in them at all times. Its just used by 2 retirees!
The average life of a refrigerator is 11 years. We purchased a Whirlpool convertible refrigerator (Model EL7JWKLMS02, Serial # EWR1339731) on 6/12/04 from the Lowes here in Visalia, CA. The first delivered was DOA and Lowes delivered another. That should have been a warning sign. We have had several problems with the product, as early as 2006. All repairs went through Sierra Appliance & Franks Appliances. We are now in the market of another refrigerator to replace this one. We have had to have freon added now for the third time. Sierra Appliance was unable to find any leak, but each time, the freon was depleted. In addition to the health hazard of having freon leaking into the house, we have had the distinct displeasure of having to deal with food waste, etc. Because of the ongoing problems with this product, we are now facing the reality of purchasing another refrigerator to replace this Whirlpool product.Due to this, I feel it is difficult to consider another Whirlpool product and will question any product to ensure that it is not Whirlpool-related. If there is anything that Whirlpool or Lowes can do at this point, it would be appreciated. Thank you for reviewing this note of dissatisfaction. It appears that we will be shopping for a new refrigerator this weekend unless we hear from Whirlpool. In any event, I would like this recorded as a complaint from a former customer.
I bought this appliance 9 months ago and it has broke 4 times now for the exact same reason. I have set aside 6 separate 4 hour windows for Diamond Factory service to come repair it. All four times, it has been repaired improperly or diagnosed as “nothing wrong with it”. My refrigerator constantly runs, eventually forms an ice wall of back of freezer, and then eventually ice gets so thick to where it stops regulating temperature. All four times, I have had to throw away all my food, defrost the fridge on my brand new hardword floors, and take off work so I can be home for these 4 hour window “service repairs”. They refuse to replace the appliance. UNBELIEVABLE. Never purchasing from Whirlpool or Home Depot in Sunset Hills again.
Three Whirlpool fridges in 5 years. 1. Fridge one three doors replaced still not satisfactory, returned, warranty VOID. 2. Fridge two simply stopped being cold therefore not working 100+ food wasted before year. 3. Fridge three freezer leaking all over floor. Two years old 0 warranty left. I now pay again to repair. I am so beyond WHIRLPOOL PRODUCTS and so fuming??? Mad. $$$. 1300.00 to 1500.00 purchases ALL JUNK. NEVER WILL I PURCHASE ANOTHER WHIRLPOOL product. I do own a full file of continuous complaints. Brault & Martineau store Gatineau did the best to help with exchanges, sent repair man who did nothing. Will not deal with them again either.
Sad that I have to file this review! After reading multiple other reviews on all brands available to American citizens, I have come to the realization that cheap labor and materials are creating massive appliance garbage in our country as well as financial rip off for us all. It needs to STOP! What has happened to doing things right!! What company is going to be the first to produce good refrigerators! Paid over $2000 for my side by side and it is only 5 years old and has a freon leak that cant be fixed. Repairman said will have to buy a new refrigerator. Pathetic!! Cheap manufacturing in foreign countries is killing our economy and our household finances. Be prepared to buy NOTHING that works! Yeah, thats what I work hard for and look forward to. Americans better wake up.
GX5FHTXVQ03 - Our whirlpool refrigerator/freezer has been leaking from the freezer for a couple of years (purchased in 2011). An ice sheet builds up in the freezer unit, then leaks out. We have gone through countless attempts to defrost and correct, disconnecting the ice maker, and a replacement part that accomplished nothing. I see online numerous people have experienced this same problem. It appears to be a design defect. Made another call to Whirlpool today. They are willing to schedule a service call for us... at our expense. Gee, thanks! Hey, but they are sorry about our warped oak hardwood floor. That sure makes me feel better. WE WILL NEVER BUY WHIRLPOOL AGAIN!
10 years, no problems with our 25 cubic foot french door Whirlpool refrigerator. Ice maker is a solid performer, with nary an issue. Temperature controls work flawlessly. The black frame looks great in our kitchen with espresso color cabinets.
I bought the #1 rated Consumer Reports recommended Whirlpool Gold fridge 15 months ago (how convenient their warranty stops at 12 months). The control board has already gone out, lots of ruined food and ruined perception that Whirlpool made good products. I will avoid buying anything they make again. When repairman was taking it apart, I saw Made in China stickers.
To start with, the ice maker drips non-stop. I have to check it several times a day to make sure its not puddling up and running my hardwood floor. Because of the continuous that, drip, freeze cycle, it creates an ice dam around the rubber boot between the ice maker and ice bin....which they located in the door where there is inadequate cold, so the cubes melt, making even more of a mess, causing it to be unable to dispense them because it is one big mass... oh and that creates an ice dam also, so on top of replacing a torn boot a couple times a year I have to chisel out the ice bucket and defrost it once a week.Want more? The ice tastes horrible. I have no idea why. It didnt in my last refrigerator. The Tap water tastes fine, I disconnected the line running in to the ice maker and tried the water from there and its fine. So somewhere in the ice maker, something is wrong. There is more. The unit is a year old and now inside the refrigerator it smells like gamey shrimp. I have no shrimp in the freezer, fridge, not have I. I dont store anything in poor sealing containers, nothing has spilled, I removed all drawers, panels, shelves and scrubbed the whole inside with bleach/water. I changed every filter, checked the drip pan (clean), and still half-rotten shrimp smell. My last refrigerator was an Amana from 1986. I bought it used in 93 and owned it until I got this Whirlpool. Never had a problem with it. I have had non-stop problems with this over-priced Whirlpool and I guarantee it is the LAST Whirlpool product I will ever own.
I paid a lot of money for this because I thought it would be high quality and last for quite a while without problems. First of all, you HAVE to open the right door before the left door and then remember to ALWAYS close the left door first and then the right door. If you dont the doors dont close well and your refrigerator gets hot AND THERE IS NO BUZZER OR ALARM TO TELL YOU THE DOORS ARENT CLOSED. After 2 years the freezer repeatedly freezes up and then the refrigerator heats up. My repairman says the controls on this refrigerator are WAY odd and instead of just buying an inexpensive part (defrost timer for example for $50) he need to order the entire control for probably 3 time more. NOT WORTH THE MONEY OR TROUBLE. BUY ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHIRLPOOL GOLD.
On August 16, 2016 I received delivery of an Whirlpool under counter refrigerator that I ordered online from Home Depot. Model # WUR50X24EM. Five months later, on January 10, 2017, it stopped working, I called Whirlpool for repair. They referred me to their service company, I called the service company the same day. They had a repairman out on the following Tuesday, 1/17/17. The repairman said that he will need to contact Whirlpool to order a part. Whirlpool sent him the wrong part. After numerous phone calls no one from Whirlpool could figure out the correct part number. The repairman kept sending over pictures and information on the correct part, but this all went nowhere with Whirlpool. On 2/7/17, I called and started yelling. I had been very patient up to this point. I was finally offered by Whirlpool a parts research to determine exactly which part was needed. Plus a $50 Visa card to appease me. At this point, its been four weeks without a refrigerator and no one from Whirlpool has put any effort towards trying to figure out the correct part. On 2/16/17, I called Whirlpool again to find out if they had found the correct part. They told me that the new part had been sent to the service company and Whirlpool scheduled me an appointment right then for Monday, 2/20/17.So today is 2/20/17, the repairman came and went, Whirlpool once again failed, they lied because the repairman came out with the wrong part that was originally sent to him when he ordered the part back on 1/17/17. I called Whirlpool and asked for a manager. They connected me with the Resolution Specialist. I told her everything and pointed out that it has been six weeks without a refrigerator. She said she will take care of it and get the right part ordered. I asked her how long I should have to wait, cause at this point I have waited long enough. She said she will have an answer by the end of this week. I dont believe her, I feel as though Whirlpool is pacifying me. I dont understand why they cant order the correct part.I have no faith in Whirlpool that they will do the right thing or have any understanding on how inconvenienced they have made me. I have no faith to the point that I ordered another refrigerator from a different manufacturer. It will be here tomorrow between 8am-12pm. Oh, and Home Depot, they washed their hands of this a long time ago. And, I have yet to see the $50 Visa Card.
I bought this fridge 2 years ago. I had multiple repairs already. Now the side panel makes noise when you shut the door. Repairman told me it is the foam separating from the side panel. There is nothing that can be done. I also have extended warranty.
