Whirlpool Refrigerator Repairs
If you're looking for help fixing your Whirlpool Refrigerator, look no further! Our comprehensive Whirlpool Refrigerator repair guide will explain common issues, provide tips, and maybe show you how to repair your appliance.
For the home, kitchen and beyond, Whirlpool manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Whirlpool appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.
Whirlpool Refrigerator not cooling.
Condenser Fan Motor. The condenser fan motor draws air though the condenser coils and over the compressor. If the condenser fan motor is not working properly, the refrigerator won’t cool properly. To determine if the fan motor is defective, first check the fan blade for obstructions. Next, try turning the fan motor blade by hand. If the blade does not spin freely, replace the condenser fan motor. If no obstructions are present and the fan blade spins freely, use a multi meter to test the fan motor for continuity. If the condenser fan motor does not have continuity, replace it.
Whirlpool water dispenser is not working.
Water Inlet Valve. The water inlet valve opens to supply water to the dispenser. If the water inlet valve is defective, or if the water pressure is too low, the water valve will not open. The valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multi meter to test the water inlet valve for continuity. If the water inlet valve does not have continuity, replace it.
Whirlpool ice maker not working.
Water Inlet Valve. The water inlet valve is an electrically-controlled valve that opens to supply water to the dispenser and ice maker. If the water inlet valve is defective, or if it has insufficient pressure, it won’t allow water to flow through. As a result, the ice maker won’t make ice. The valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multi meter to check for power to the water inlet valve. If the water inlet valve has sufficient pressure and is getting power, but the ice maker won’t fill with water to make ice, replace the water inlet valve.
Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker is Not Dispensing Ice.
Dispenser Control Board. The dispenser control board governs most of the functions of the dispenser system. If the control board is faulty, it may stop supplying power to the entire dispenser system. If only one dispenser part is not working, test each of the dispenser components before testing the control board. It is more likely that a single part has failed. If the entire dispenser system is not working, the control board is more likely to be at fault.
Whirlpool Refrigerator not defrosting.
Defrost Control Board. The defrost control board determines how often to run the defrost cycle. If the board fails, the refrigerator will not go into the defrost cycle. Before replacing the defrost control board, first test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If the defrost heater and defrost thermostat are working properly, the defrost control board is likely defective.
Whirlpool Refrigerator is noisy or loud.
Fan Blade. If the refrigerator is noisy or loud, especially when one of the doors are opened, either the evaporator or condenser fan blade may be at fault. First, check out the evaporator fan blade in the freezer behind the back panel. Try turning it by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, check to see if the blade is rubbing against something or if something is caught in the blade. Additionally, check the condenser fan blade in the back underside of the refrigerator to determine if it has any obstructions.
Whirlpool Refrigerator defrost drain clogged.
Drain Heater. Some refrigerators are equipped with drain heaters. Drain heaters prevent the water in the drain pan from re-freezing and clogging the defrost drain. If your drain heater is defective or is not in the proper position, the defrost drain might freeze over.
Whirlpool Refrigerator is not Cooling, but the Freezer is Working.
Evaporator Fan Motor. The evaporator fan motor draws cold air over the evaporator coils and circulates it throughout the freezer. If the evaporator fan is not working, the freezer or refrigerator will not cool adequately. To determine if the evaporator fan motor is defective, try turning the fan blade by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, replace the fan motor. Additionally, if the motor is unusually noisy, replace it. Finally, if the motor does not run at all, use a multi meter to test the motor windings for continuity. If the windings do not have continuity, replace the evaporator fan motor.
Whirlpool Refrigerator is Leaking Water.
Water Filter Head. The water filter head might be cracked, or the seal may be torn or missing. Inspect the water filter housing for cracks. If you discover any cracks in the water filter housing, replace it.
Whirlpool Refrigerator freezing food.
Temperature Control Thermostat. The temperature control thermostat directs voltage to the compressor, evaporator fan motor, and condenser fan motor (if applicable). If the temperature control thermostat is not working properly, it may cause the refrigerant system to run longer than necessary. As a result, the refrigerator will be too cold. To determine if the thermostat is defective, rotate the thermostat from the lowest setting to the highest setting and listen for a click. If the thermostat clicks, it is not likely defective. If the thermostat does not click, use a multi meter to test the thermostat for continuity. If the temperature control thermostat does not have continuity at any setting, replace it.
Whirlpool Refrigerator ice maker overflowing.
Water Inlet Valve. The water inlet valve requires a minimum of 20 psi to shut off properly. If the water pressure is too low, the valve may not close fully once the power is shut off. As a result, the valve will leak water into the ice maker and cause the ice maker to overflow. Check the water pressure to determine if it is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, the water inlet valve is likely defective. The valve may not shut off all the way or may be stuck open, causing water to leak through the valve. If the water pressure is sufficient, but the ice maker is still overflowing, replace the water inlet valve.
Whirlpool Refrigerator light not working.
Light Bulb. The light bulb might be out. Replace the light bulb before replacing any of the other parts associated with the light bulb.
Whirlpool Refrigerator runs constantly.
Door Gasket. If the Refrigerator runs constantly the door gasket may be torn or defective, or if the door is not shutting tightly warm air can enter the the refrigerator and cause the evaporator coils to ice over. This happens because humid air from the room is drawn into the refrigerator through the opening at the gasket. As the humidity comes in contact with the cold evaporator coils it condenses and freezes. Normally the defrost system removes this frost and ice. However, if the door gasket is defective the evaporator coils ice over too quickly and the defrost cycle cannot keep up.

I bought a Whirlpool refrigerator because it was the lowest priced model that offered a bottom freezer compartment and fit into our available space in the kitchen. We also want a white coloured appliance. One thing we never noticed until set up at home was that there were no ice making trays nor an ice bin. We have had the fridge for five years with no problems. It is quite noisy when running.
Another reviewer complained about a knocking sound upon startup. My Brand New fridge has been doing that and I have just ignored it. Maybe I shouldnt. Compared to our original Beaumark fridge, the Whirlpool is VERY NOISY.. Since the actual workings seem fine, I am not complaining but rather quite concerned.Especially after reading the numerous Negative Reviews.
Good News!! Finally a permanent fix & possible recall. My Whirlpool Gold bottom freezer was 18 months old and Out of Warranty. It leaked water on my floor like all the rest. I called and was told I had to pay the service charge. Speak with a SUPERVISOR!!! They sent a repairman who said a Kit had just come out to fix this. I had to defrost the unit for a day and he returned with the kit. Part number is W10309238. The repairman believes they will be doing a recall and fix these drains. Insist on speaking with a Supervisor!!! Get results, they will do it as it is a design flaw. The repair took about twenty minutes. Here in Ottawa, Ontario call Youngs Appliance for more info.
We owned our Whirlpool Gold refrigerator GS6SHEXNL00 for 23 months when our electronic control board went out resulting in the light and interior temp display to go out. I called Whirlpool and they told me the control board was not under warranty. I subsequently replaced the board at cost of $156. This morning, 7 years from when I bought the fridge, the control board went bad again. Amazon now has a replacement board W10135090 for $67. There are thousands of complaints regarding the Whirlpool electronic control board, which Whirlpool just ignores. This should be a recall item. I will not buy another Whirlpool product.
Tried for several days to schedule service call for my leaking whirlpool ref/freezer. Waiting on hold to speak to a rep... transferred to another dept. - on hold again listening to a recording advising me of the unusual high volume of calls to call back at a later time (should have been my clue of all the problems with their product). I had three different Whirlpool phone numbers given to me from the reps I spoke with. I would like a refund for my extended warranty. I have called an independent service company and will pay for the repair. I will not buy or recommend Whirlpool or their products.
My new fridge is extremely hard to open. The technician that was sent out told me that there is too much suction building up inside the fridge and freezer and that is why it has to be yanked to open. This is not only annoying it means the fridge is constantly being pulled forward out of place. Technicians solution was to deactive the castors under the fridge. At the time he was here I did not realize that I could then no longer move the fridge out of its place to clean. I called Whirlpool and complained and was told that they could do nothing more for me because the fridge is in good working order. I hardly would call this good working order. They also informed me that if I wished to clean under the fridge or the coils at the back it would require a service call to move the fridge and I WOULD BE CHARGED EACH TIME. Needless to say I AM VERY, VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE WHOLE SITUATION.
One month after the delivery/installation of this new refrigerator, it began making loud noises when cooling the top refrigeration unit. After the 4th service call and replacement parts, the noise ceased for 3 months. The noise has returned and Im now scheduling the 5th service call for the same problem. Thank goodness I purchased the extended protection plan through Lowe’s when I bought my three new Whirlpool kitchen appliances. Whirlpool used to be known for quality and dependable appliances. That no longer is true. SAD.
I bought my refrigerator side by side on April 16th 2010 at Lowes. Not even six months, the liner inside started to get cracked. I called and they send serviceman. He just put a tape to cover the cracks. I called Whirpool corp and they told me its cosmetics issue so our warranty does not cover cosmetic problem for as long it works and cools. I will never purchase Whirpool brands. Lesson learned.
I called Whirlpool’s 800 customer service line to let them know I was having a problem with this loud humming and rattling noise coming from my refrigerator because of a manufacturing defect (according to the service tech that came to my house to fix it). Apparently, the metal grid is being held by a flat mental hook which vibrates. What a loud noise. We cannot eat in our kitchen: the noise it terrible. The repairmans solution was to put a piece of rubber between the two metal pieces. It worked until he left. I told him it would start again and it did! I even let the customer service rep hear the noise and she agreed. I am in the early stages of my problem, but from what I have read I am not very hopeful. I would like to have the names and phone numbers of the people at Whirlpool who refused to help. Maybe if we would all band together and call them, they would get tired of hearing from unhappy customers and fix the problems. I am game. Anyone else?
I bought a brand new Whirlpool fridge 3 years ago and it went out completely while on vacation. I lost 5 black bags of food. The compressor went bad due to it leaking Freon or whatever it is called. This is a recall on most models but they say not on my model so nothing is being done. So I will never buy another thing made by Whirlpool again.
2010 upright Whirlpool freezer - Door is totally bubbled in rust. Warranty Plan not covered for this. Whirlpool Corp Serv. Dept said they are sorry but it is not a functional problem. Cost of repairs on 3-yr-old freezer that cost $600.00 would be $732.62. This freezer was rated CR Best Buy in Sept 2009 which was why I purchased it. I paid $81.00 for repair tech from Whirlpool today who could do nothing either. Whirlpool knows that this has been a problem as consumers have complained about this rust in Google, some saying they will never buy a Whirlpool product again. Same here!
I purchased Whirlpool Refrigerator model WRF989SDAM02 in June of 2014. I began having problems with the ice forming into a solid block shortly after having the refrigerator installed. I called for service several times over the next year trying to rectify the problem. Once the warranty had expired I continued upon the advice of Whirlpool Customer Service to schedule their certified Technicians to work on the problem. A year and a half and several hundred dollars later I am still unable to get ice cubes when desired.Ultimately I was advised that I would need to use the ice maker once a day to keep it from forming into a block. When this didnt solve the problem I again contacted Whirlpool, had another of their recommended service technician come and give his advice. I was told that the ice maker needs to be in constant use or it forms a block and this is a defect in the design of this unit. A Pro Tech Appliance Inc. Technician, an authorized Whirlpool technical representative, said the only way to have usage of ice would be if I made sure to dispense ice a minimum of 8-10 times a day. This is completely impractical and just plain ridiculous. I contacted Whirlpool again. They refuse to acknowledge this is a defect in the design of this model. I have replaced all parts that can be replaced, had the unit resealed and have paid for multiple service call. Whirlpool will provide no remedy for this problem. Now that the unit is out of warranty they have refused to provide a resolution even though its issue began while still covered under the year warranty. The ice in the ice maker is completely unusable and melts into a solid block within 24 hours if not in continual use.
I am a Whirlpool Privilege Member - IFB privilege number **. This is Mrs ** here and I possess two Whirlpool Fridges, one single door and one double door (Elite Model). In fact, all my family members have Whirlpool refrigerators because I recommended them and because I have had a very satisfying experience with your service until now.I recently (first week of March) logged a complaint as my fridge was not working (it was working on and off). The Mechanic from the service center visited us and said that the compressor was at fault. I had some doubt about this as the Fridge was working on and off and I requested my friend who had a workshop to come and have a look. He checked and said that the compressor was working perfectly but looked like there was some problem in the supply of current which could be a loose contact or something. So I logged another complaint and when the mechanic came (this time a different one), I was out of the country and my husband was there in the house. He checked the fridge and said the compressor was working and apologized for the earlier mechanic’s wrong diagnosis. He also said that it was difficult that since the wires were inside the beading or the Puff, or whatever, the fridge could not be repaired.I am really astonished and pained by this comment by the mechanic as we spent a lot of money and bought a fridge for its brand worth name. I shudder to think if this complaint had happened two years after I brought it, should I simply throw the fridge because it cant be repaired? Is there anything at all where the company can say it can’t be repaired? Are fridges used and thrown in India? I am all the more worried because I have been recommending Whirlpool Fridges left and right to everyone and I tell them that there could be a situation when Whirlpool would ask you to simply throw your fridge away. I still have belief in Whirlpool and I firmly believe my recommendations would not go wrong, and it is only the fault of the mechanic who could have made this remark unwittingly.
I bought model #W4TXNWFWQ at Lowes in February 2013. It had a one-year warranty. Five months after the warranty expired, the defrost timer went out. It cost $100 to fix the $400 refrigerator. Planned obsolescence or coincidence? Either way, its poor quality.
Love my new fridge, not in love with the icemaker though. Every couple of days I have to reach in and scoop the ice off the little shelf in the back, or else it will quit making ice. The ice cubes block the arm from coming back down to trigger a refill.
10 years, no problems with our 25 cubic foot french door Whirlpool refrigerator. Ice maker is a solid performer, with nary an issue. Temperature controls work flawlessly. The black frame looks great in our kitchen with espresso color cabinets.
Problem of refrigerator is working good for a few days, then the freezer is all melted down for a few days, then back to working good again. Model: FD2560HES. Serviced on and by: 7/16/2015 - ** - told me the controller board is bad, need to order part. 7/23/2015 - ** - replaced the controller board. Resulting same problem. NOTE, which means my old controller board is as good as the new one. 7/30/2015 - ** - opened the freezer, back of refrigerator, told me the compressor is no good, gave me an estimate of total cost $817.86. I did not accept the proposal, and I did not agree the compressor is no good. I called and scheduled for service after and scheduled to have service on 8/4/2015. Then got called from the office, said, Cant come on 8/4/2015 and told me I have to pay the $95.00 first visit. So I called and spoke to the manager, then scheduled for next service.8/13/2015 - ** - when he came, the refrigerator is working fine. He said, Cant diagnosis the refrigerator, told me to call for service when it is not working. He said the compressor is good. 8/15/2015, early morning the freezer is all melted. I called, been told cant service the same day. 8/17/2015 I called the office (1-888-717-9322), requested to talk to the manager, promised to call me back. By this date 8/28/2015, still no call back from the manager. They are located in Michigan. I was told the local office address is: 9582 Katella Ave., Anaheim, CA 92804.
We purchased this large 4 door refrigerator in December 2018, from Costco in Florida, having in mind with the 2 years Manufacturing warranties and 2 years of Costco warranties above the manufacturing warranties. We didnt expect any problems for the initial 4 years. Up on delivery some parts of the unit was missing, delivery guys said they will make a report for the missing left drawers and the parts. We did not have any manuals how to setup and use. After we called the customer service they send us the operating manual. We encounter several other problems with this unit and the most recent one to our surprise the warning light to change the water filter was on. We hardly using the water from the fridge because of the having monthly spring water delivery service. We called customer service and after explanation of our concern and following their instruction the light was on. Finally we were told that whether or not using the water filter has to be changed every 6 months and send us the additional service warranty contract which is $411.95 for 3 years. We still have 3 years 4 months remaining from our original warranty.
Stainless steel rusted in under six months - Purchased all new Whirlpool kitchen appliances in March 2013. In July 2013 finish on both refrigerator doors and freezer door was covered with tiny rust spots. The finish was obviously defective. Contacted Whirlpool, sent photos and was told the damage was cosmetic and not covered by warranty since it didnt happen within 90 days of purchase. Ice make did not work right from day one. Finally paid to replace it myself and repairman said Whirlpool discontinued the style of ice maker I had because they had so many complaints.
Three Whirlpool fridges in 5 years. 1. Fridge one three doors replaced still not satisfactory, returned, warranty VOID. 2. Fridge two simply stopped being cold therefore not working 100+ food wasted before year. 3. Fridge three freezer leaking all over floor. Two years old 0 warranty left. I now pay again to repair. I am so beyond WHIRLPOOL PRODUCTS and so fuming??? Mad. $$$. 1300.00 to 1500.00 purchases ALL JUNK. NEVER WILL I PURCHASE ANOTHER WHIRLPOOL product. I do own a full file of continuous complaints. Brault & Martineau store Gatineau did the best to help with exchanges, sent repair man who did nothing. Will not deal with them again either.
Ordered water filters for refrigerator. They did not arrive. Tracking # came back not found. Waited on phone for an hour. Talked to representative. She could not help me. Transferred me to another department. Been holding for an hour. Still no help. If this is what Whirlpool calls good service, they are completely lacking. I will not order another Whirlpool product.
My husband and I purchased a Whirlpool Refrigerator, model number GI6SARXXF04, serial number K20311478 on February 3, 2012. It was delivered soon after. In April of 2012 our ice maker quit working. We called The Appliance Doctor for service. They reset the control, and left saying that they thought it was fixed. The ice maker as a result was not fixed. They came out again, and stated that the ice maker needed to be replaced altogether. So they ordered the part and we waited for two weeks for it to arrive and be installed. By this time it was April 23, 2012.Then in June of 2013 we began having water pool in the bottom of the refrigerator and freeze, and water began to leak onto our hardwood floors causing them to buckle. We cleaned it up for a while thinking perhaps something had spilled, and busted up the ice on our own. The beginning of 2014 we called for service from Lanny Adams Appliance. The technician worked on it and stated that something was plugged up in the water line and he thought it was fixed, we paid for this service on our own. On August 14, 2014 we had another technician come out because it was not fixed. The technician came out and stated that it would cost another $219.95. He further stated that he thought that there was a recall of some kind, that I should look into it. I did look into it and printed out the Technical Service Pointer that was produced in November of 2013. When I called Whirlpool at that point, someone was sent to fix it. Of course I had already paid to have it repaired in February of 2014, Whirlpool stated that it was not their responsibility, which again it was not fixed until August of 2014. As a further note, my floors were never fixed because I have hardwood floors throughout my house and simply cannot fix the area in front of the refrigerator. My floor had just been refinished, and after speaking with the floor company that had just refinished my floors a few months earlier, they stated all of the floors would have to be redone or it would not match. Figuring Whirlpool is definitely not going to pay for that, I have just dealt with it, since it cost me over $3000.00 to have the floors refinished. Now, it is February of 2015 and the whole refrigerator is not cooling, and the freezer is not freezing. Again, I woke up to water in the floor on my hardwood floors, and have had to move all of my food to my ten year old Frigidaire refrigerator that is in my basement and has NEVER had a service call. After speaking with service company, they state it will cost $1200.00 to fix the refrigerator....REALLY? So, now I get to go spend a lot more money for a new appliance. You can bet it WILL NOT be a Whirlpool!I contacted Whirlpool again, and I spoke with Robin in your Customer Service Department after speaking with one of your Customer Service Representatives that stated I was basically on my own with the repairs. Robin stated that there was nothing Whirlpool would do, but she would agree to pay for parts and I will be left with the repair labor. Although your company may think that this is good customer service, I have to disagree given the fact that I have had nothing but consistent problems with the refrigerator since I bought it. At this point, I would like to ask you if in your opinion this is a good appliance? I asked Robin and she stated that I needed to buy an extended warranty. Dont you realize it isnt about the warranty? It is about the fact that I have had the appliance for 3 years and have had consistent problems. I believe the refrigerator is a lemon, and I would like it replaced.I have always trusted the Whirlpool name, but at this point, I do not see myself buying another Whirlpool appliance.
I bought a Whirlpool Gold refrigerator four years ago, June 2012. Today, 9/20/16, I found out that the ice maker has to be replaced to the tune of $350! The repair person told me that Whirlpool has the worst track record, and of his service calls, he has at least three to five Whirlpool refrigerators per week! This is a terrible lack of quality. When youre spending over $2,000 for a refrigerator, you expect it to work for more than four years. Not only that, but I have e-mailed Whirlpool Customer Service twice and have been ignored completely. This is my last Whirlpool product, and I urge you to stay away from them. Samsung has a much better track record.
I have had my Whirlpool refrigerator 14 years and have had service on it only 1 time, for the ice maker. I have had a fridge where the compressor went out twice. Dont remember the brand but do remember the experience.
I have a Whirlpool refrigerator from 2017 that is causing so many issues and finally completely broken after spending $500 on repairs. 4 months ago, refrigerator was making loud noise and freezer wasnt working. Then within a week the whole unit stopped working. Then, freezer got all frosty and the whole unit got shut off. 2 month later, the ice maker stopped working and nothing is working now. I called the Whirlpool and they offered me to purchase extended warranty for $530. I could not believe they wanted me to spend another $530 on this refrigerator after spending all this money on repairs and still useless. I refused to buy any more Whirlpool product that I used to love in the past. I am just so disappointed with the customer service as the supervisor from Whirlpool said that is why they offer extended warranty. $2000 refrigerator to last me 3 years???? Not doing this again.
The refrigerator is about 2 years old. Has worked great. Stainless steel finish looks great. Was a good price at Lowes, with free delivery and removal of old refrigerator. I bought a simple model. Did not need a water connection.
This refrigerator is a disaster. You will never be able to leave your home for any length of time for fear of a storm putting your electricity out which turns it off and if it DOES NOT TURN BACK ON WHEN THE POWER IS RESTORED. If you happen to be away for several days you will come back to a freezer that has defrosted all over your floor and your food in the refrigerator spoiled.
Everything I buy from this company breaks all the time. I purchased these brands hoping they were good but apparently not. Always have to get them serviced. Lately they did an exchange on my fridge. Hope it helps because after thousands of dollars of food in the garbage it better work. And the washer thought, Oh Im paying more. It will be good. At this point will cost me less to buy from another company. Buyers beware. Cause the company cant do nothing good for me so dont buy from them.
I was doing a routine refrigerator cleaning and the glass I was cleaning absolutely shattered all over my kitchen. Shards of glass are everywhere including my disposal. I called Whirlpool and talked to a customer service rep. Of course, this is not under warranty. So I asked to speak with a supervisor. All I could get from her is Sorry, youre disappointed. We can replace that part for $87.71. It has taken me over two hours to clean up all the glass. I wouldnt be upset if I had mishandled the glass, but it broke when I was drying it with a towel! I’m wondering if anyone elses glass shattered in the same fashion.
It was about 6 years after purchase that the ice maker completely quit making ice. To change the filter you have to get down on your hands and knees to do so. If youre elderly, this can cause a problem. Overall, it was a good refrigerator.
Whirlpool fridge (model no ETILFKXKS) - I purchased this fridge from a very good dealer (Trail Appliances, Edmonton). Within a year, I had my first of the frozen water drain from top freezer to water pan. Of course, I blamed myself - too much warm food, blah blah. Now this is happening more and more often. The fridge is kept at number 1 of 5 for coldness. All foods are left on counter to cool, but three times over my Christmas holidays this year when I swore I would throw this fridge in the garbage - the drain froze, water all over the fridge, food having to be removed and placed in other peoples fridges, blah blah. Now it did it again this weekend! There are only two living here. I work all day and no one even opens the fridge much and again this happened. Im really sad that such a faulty product (too much insulation hiding the drain pipe behind the fridge and it must be much too small in diameter; otherwise, it wouldnt freeze up). Talking about work. We have two fridges there with 50 people using them all day and they run perfectly for the last 8 years that I have been there. So I think it indicates that my fridge is faulty. Im so sad too because I dont have the money for a new one. I just turned 65 and am about to retire (single mom). You would think that a $1,300 fridge would last longer than 6 years!
We bought our first Whirlpool 4 door about 4 years ago. Within the first 3 or 4 months the ice maker stopped working which was repaired. Then at 3 years the compressor went out and of course no cooling or freezing. Since we had bought this at Lowe’s they loaned us a fridge until ours was taken care of and told us to call whirlpool. When we called they said they would do nothing for us. Between them and Lowe’s we were finally able to get the refrigerator replaced by paying another $1,000. We have had the new fridge for a little under a year and the ice maker stopped working. While trying to get it working by their service repair people the cooling and freezer stopped working. The service people said the compressor is bad. We called whirlpool again they will not replace the refrigerator and said it will have to be repaired. The service company says compressors are on back order and don’t know when they will have one. All of this has been going on for 3 weeks at this time and who knows how much longer. I had to throw all of the food in my freezer away and as well as most of what was in the refrigerator. I am now buying ice every other day to keep some foods cool so we can have something to eat. We are 82 years old with a very limited income and find this very difficult to deal with. Whirlpool’s reply is sorry but they will not do anything since the fridge is under warranty.
The Weatherization program installed a whirlpool refrigerator in our home in October 2012. The fridge is less than 2 years old and the blower fan went out. We lost most of our food (what wouldnt keep in a cooler) and my daughters insulin spoiled. When they put this fridge in, they took our old one saying it was less efficient. Now we are stuck with a fridge that doesnt work and is out of warranty at less than 2 years old. We have left several messages for a Whirlpool representative to call us back and here we are, one week later, and no call back. This is frustrating because although the fridge we had may not have been as energy efficient, I am almost certain that it would still be working. I have never heard of a fridge that lasts less than 2 years. Also, we know that the blower fan must be a common problem because they are back-ordered approx. one month. We checked online, and called local businesses and not one place has the part available.I think we at least deserve a call back considering how stressful this has been on us. I had just spent all of my grocery money for the month, and 70% of it went bad and had to be thrown away. Money is tight for us and replacing spoiled food is not an option. Also, the insurance company denied our request to refill my daughters insulin a little early. Without proper refrigeration the insulin goes bad. The insurance doesnt replace lost or spoiled medication. Guess we get to pay for that too! Thanks so much Whirlpool! Ill be sure and highly recommend your products to my friends. (NOT GONNA HAPPEN.)
One year to the day after the warranty expired, the meat drawer in the refrigerator began filling with water. Two repairmen have been to my home and cannot repair it due to a design flaw. Also, I had to pay for a cracked bottom tray that happened during delivery which I didnt know occurred at the time. Whirlpool is now ignoring my phone calls and emails. We paid in excess of $800 last year. What am I going to do now? Buy another refrigerator and get rid of this one? I dont make that kind of money and I feel Whirlpool should stand behind their products. This model is not even on the recall list so that means to me that other consumers buying this model are getting ripped off also. The customer service people say sorry but wont budge on reimbursement. I was told they cannot honor my request. Whether this was under warranty or not, it still cannot be fixed according to the repair tech that was at my home. I need to find someone to help me before this lemon I bought decides to burst into flames. I want a replacement refrigerator, not this model of course, of equal value. I am not asking for the moon, just for something that works beyond one year. In this economy, we cant afford to buy a major appliance after one year. My car is still running and I bought that in 1985. Please find someone to help me. I thank you for your time.
The refrigerator has worked OK except for occasional freezing towards the back. However the vegetable bins have both broken starting with various parts of the handles in front. We eventually replaced them. A brand new one arrive already broken. Same cheap brittle plastic. No alternative available. The company denies any problems or complaints about the bins. Feels like a small profit center for them.
I bought a Whirlpool refrigerator about 1 1/2 years ago. Mechanically it works fine, but many places on the outside are showing small rust, circular rust spots. Looks like the refrigerator has the measles. I dont think ordinary paint will cure the problem since it looks like the rust is coming through from the inside of the door. Any ideas as to what will cure the appearance and keep the rust hidden????
I bought a Whirlpool larder fridge 18 months ago. It suddenly stopped working so we got a service engineer up who said there was no gas. He said it would cost 50.00, but with no guarantee it would work afterwards.
Hi. We purchased a french doors 32 cubic feet refrigerator from Home Depot in January 2017. Since day one it has not worked correctly. We have dual ice makers and neither one works. The fridge doesnt cool at all! Whirlpool sent out an appliance repair company who said they ordered the parts. Its been 2 months and guess what still no parts on order and still have no refrigerator. So after 45 or more minutes on the phone with them for the millionth time we came to the conclusion that we are stuck with a POS refrigerator! They refuse to swap the fridge out. They said Home Depot would have to swap it and its against their policy. (Thats another complaint department.) We will never recommend a Whirlpool product again. Never buy Whirlpool. They love taking our money and thats where they stop.
Yesterday, my DC premier refrigerator purchased on 22.12.2011 suddenly stopped working for a long time, and the inside light automatically went off. All food, vegetables, and others are damaged and rotten. Now we are scared to keep anything inside this for huge loss and health problem. Kindly rectify this, and do the needful at the earliest.
We bought a Roper refrigerator about seven years ago. Less than two months later two of the cheap plastic door shelves broke and we had to buy replacements at over $20 a piece. Since then weve had to replace one more. Tonight another one broke so well have to fork over another $20+ to replace this one. I checked the Whirlpool website and they have the exact same flimsy plastic shelves as the Roper. I will be in the market to purchase at least three refrigerators in the next two years and you can bet that they wont be either Roper or Whirlpool. My advice to anyone in the market for a refrigerator to steer clear of these two brands as their shelving is cheap and shoddy.
We bought the Whirlpool NU50T122-403 50 Gal water heater from Lowe’s and very disappointed that after 3 years it will cost more to repair it than replace it. The Whirlpool gas water heater and our Whirlpool refrigerator have been the worst purchases ever made. Whirlpool has been unreliable in our house and the repairs and downtime have been extraordinary. We have replaced with a Rheem from Home Depot.
I am very reluctant with online product feedbacks. But here is one story that needs to be told. I purchased a Whirlpool 3D Split AC 2 years back (and hence the product is out of warranty). The product quality is so bad (and unreliable) that within 2 years the coils in the Outdoor Unit have started to leak. When I requested for service visit the technician (so called) came over and did a wet service and took the fee (without an invoice). And assured that the AC would start to work fine. Within a week we realized that the AC is not cooling enough. Again a service visit was called and this time the technician (supposedly) diagnosed the above problem. The repair cost told to me is to the tune of Rs 10,000/- for a product cost of Rs 36,000/- (or so) bought just 2 years back. Does anyone in Whirlpool understand what QUALITY means??? Does anyone understand VALUE FOR MONEY... This aside I have a 2 Tonne Whirlpool AC, 350 l Whirlpool DD refrigerator and a Washing Machine... I think its time for Move over WHIRLPOOL and HELLO MITSUBISHI, BOSCH, HITACHI... End of a great consumer brand...
This is my second Maytag French door refrigerator. 1st died after 5years. Bought the same again but bought an extended warranty. After 3 years, a month of service calls I still do not have a running refrigerator. Had to rent one from rent a center while Whirlpool sends more repairman. Try calling their customer service is where they got their name. They give you such a runaround they create a whirlpool. Product is junk.
We are now over a month without a working fridge/freezer because of the lack of Whirlpool care. Our brand new Whirlpool fridge stopped working after 3 days. That was nearly a month ago. I have wasted hours on the phone with rude reps from both Home Depot and Whirlpool. A new one with multiple dents was attempted to be delivered today which I wouldnt sign for knowing Id be stuck with it. Now we have to wait 2 weeks for another one. A $100 compensation doesnt nearly cover our food loss let alone a family of 4 living without a functioning fridge and freezer. I will never purchase Whirlpool again!
Whirlpool refrigerator - I purchased $6950.93 in Whirlpool products in one day last year at HH GREGG in Lexington, Ky. The refrigerator was purchased on that day September 18, 2012 and my kitchen wasnt going to be ready until December, but I wanted all items bought for measurements (specs) for the new kitchen designer. HH GREGG delivered to my garage October 26, 2012 because they couldnt hold any longer, but when we purchased that day they promised to hold till December when my kitchen would be finished. I have Proof from the kitchen installers the day they finished, December 28, 2012, was the day the appliances were installed. Well here I sit typing this letter on January 7, 2014 and my Whirlpool refrigerator is as of right now is in need of a compressor while losing approx $1000.00 in purchased food. In other words, approximately $900.00 in repair cost. Isnt Whirlpool a large enough company to stand behind its products when I paid $2599.00 for this refrigerator for at least one year from installation instead of purchase date? My fiancee has been trying to work out a solution with Whirlpool and the parts are on back order now. For at least two weeks we have been without a refrigerator and have two young children. Doesnt it show that the parts being on back order from Whirlpool, barely being a year old prove the defective product is being sold to the public daily? I plan on going further with this action due to the name Whirlpool all over my kitchen which disgusts me. Im going to write every columnist I can and do all I can with what little resources I have against this large company if no one helps us. This is absolutely an injustice against consumers...
I have a Whirlpool french door unit with ice & water through the freezer door. I recently noticed rust in the ice. When the extended service plans tech came to see it he told me that the ice bucket would have to be ordered. Almost a month later, I called him and was told that rust isnt covered. I understand that surface or cosmetic rust shouldnt be covered, but rust in a place where it can be ingested is different. Anyway, I called Whirlpool directly and a very nice phone rep agreed with me and asked her supervisor. Needless to say, I just sent Whirlpool a letter stating that I would pursue this through legal channels if I dont get satisfaction.
I will never, ever, ever buy a Whirlpool appliance again. We bought the french door bottom mount refrigerator in 2013. After our warranty ran out, we had to have the guts of the refrigerator replaced and then the ice maker replaced again. Now the freezer door wont shut and I cannot believe that Whirlpool would put their name on this piece of junk! We splurged to get what we thought was a high end model but it has been problem after problem. RUN from Whirlpool!
We purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator in December 2017. Since July 19 we have had the same problem with the refrigerator three times. The technicians don’t know how to fix it and Whirlpool refuses to replace it. The customer service rep was ignorant on the phone and could care less about a problem. Even though there is a lemon law they refuse to replace the refrigerator. We have to defrost the refrigerator every 2 to 3 weeks so will cool down again. Whirlpool is the worst company we have ever dealt with customer service wise. Lowes will not do anything about it because it’s within the first year.
We have recently retired and moved into a smaller home. The kitchen needed to be furnished with all of the normal appliances. We bought two Whirlpool products, a refrigerator and trash compactor. Since we are living on a fixed budget, I was hoping that the furnishings that were bought would last as long as our past appliances did. However, our brand new refrigerator after two and a half years needed to have a new light installed. We called Whirlpool and set up for a repair. The repair was $290.00. We paid the repair man working for Whirlpool, then called Whirlpool and asked if there was anything they could do to help with the cost. They suggested that we buy a protection plan. Both of the refrigerators we have owned during the past fifty years lasted twenty plus years. This one only went two and a half before having to be serviced.Whirlpools answer to my request of helping out with this $290 service call was Sorry, you should have bought a service plan. I wish I would have gone with either of the same brands that we had in the past. Those being, Sears and Sub-Zero. I would suggest that those of you who are contemplating buying a kitchen appliance, choose a company that has a product that will go more than two and a half years without having to be serviced. Neither of the other refrigerators that we had ever had to be serviced. They stayed with the houses we sold.
Purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator model WRF560SEYM in June 2014. In February 2015 the ice maker had to be repaired because of a leak. Now in February of 2016 the ice maker and water dispenser are leaking. Because the warranty is one year, Im basically stuck with a refrigerator that sucks. Not only is the ice maker and water dispenser broken, the door sometimes doesnt shut properly and the shelving couldnt possibly be more cheaply made. This refrigerator is in a vacation home and has barely been used. I have purchased many Whirlpool appliances on the past and have never seen such poor quality in an appliance. The only thing Whirlpool can offer is sorry youre stuck!! No more Whirlpool for me!!
We have owned refrigerators for over 40 years. Never had one as bad as this. Three ice maker replacements lasting maybe from 6 months to 2 years. Cap that off with customer service people who by voice and tone could not give a rats ** about helping the customer. Today it took me from 3:10 pm to 5:30 pm to get a real person on the phone. When I did the attitude is so reminiscent of a fast food hamburger joint with arches. Yes they know the refrig and ice maker are and have been a problem but they don’t care cause we have no option. Whirlpool will NEVER SEE ANOTHER penny of my money. Time to look at real appliance makers. Horrible.
They attempted to fix our fridge, 1 year into owning, claimed no parts available. Never fixed, fridge died. Refused to repair. Offered us a 15% Visa gift card on another Whirlpool. Unacceptable, they can’t fix their product, and will never recommend anybody go through my familys $3,500 wasted fridge experience. Don’t trust them, they lie, and just escalate it to another liar in the customer service department.
I have a double door refrigerator with a bottom freezer. It is slightly over 2 years old and has been in use for only 7 months of that time. We just got off the phone with Whirlpool service. They will cover the cost of the control panel and defrost control. The other one I paid to replace was only one month old and it failed again. In the time between that I had to have an Icing kit put in as the Ice maker was causing ice to form inside the back wall of the refrigerator. My first call to Whirlpool was very unsatisfactory. I ended up paying for the part and the service call. The second call was about the ice-maker and they were aware of the problem and sent me a repair kit for the problem. I still had to pay for repair service. So far I have paid $561.62 for their defective parts and service calls. This time my wife called (while I was taking my frozen foods to my neighbors freezer for the second time) and went through 3 people before being told the part was still under warranty and they will send a new one. When we pushed for proper service we got it. We should never have had to go through all this. We also lost over $300.00 of frozen foods. Never buy a Whirlpool refrigerator!!!
We purchased a new side by side black finish refrigerator. There is a design flaw in the water/ice dispenser. The bottom of the dispenser has no edge so any drops of water run down the front of the refrigerator! This leaves constant watermarks down the front. 2. The finish scratches very, very easily. I would not recommend this finish to anyone with children or pets. When you open the door if your ring touches the surface it will scratch it! There was NO user manual on care and I used paper towels to clean. Big no no, as now I have fine scratches on the front. I would never buy this product again because of these flaws. I have a 7 month old refrigerator that looks 7 years old and it is just my husband and myself! Love the inside, hate the outside.
I bought this fridge in July of 2017. In December the Ice Maker quit, I called and they sent a tech out. The repair guy reset the ice maker and it made Ice. It functioned June and quit. They sent a new company that was a no-show, so I had to wait until July for the new company to come out. When they did, they replaced the ice maker. It worked for 10 days and quit. Same thing, replace the ice maker and this time quit about 30 days later. I called August 27th because the 4th Ice maker quit again. I was told by a supervisor that because they have used the same claim number it counts as one claim and does not fall under the Lemon Law. I did get the supervisor to admit that there are 2 claims in the system while under Warranty, but now it is on the extended warranty. Whirlpool is Garbage and I am here to tell everyone to STAY AWAY!
I purchased my Whirlpool refrigerator from Best Buy 11/20/19. It has been nothing but a nightmare. It freezes up and defrosts into the refrigerator.! I called Whirlpool about the situation. The company they use to fix my fridge S&S Appliance has not been keeping accurate records. I have all the calls from Best Buy and S&S Appliance. I was told today-all my records didn’t count. Best Buy Geek Squad couldn’t repair so they turned everything over to Whirlpool. So about every week someone comes out and fiddles with it and tell me it is fine. 2 days later the same. I have owned many Whirlpool products and never have I been so disappointed. Their service has been neglecting and I don’t know how anyone would want to buy Whirlpool. They have set me up another service appointment with S&S Appliance. Obviously I have bought a lemon and no one takes any responsibility. Good luck with Whirlpool!!
Refrigerator is only 4 years old and must be defrosted every 2 or 3 weeks as a thick sheet of ice forms in the bottom of the freezer. Also the appliance frequently emits loud cracking noises.
After 16 months the Whirlpool refrigerator Model number: #WRT311SZDW00 goes out. While trying to use extended warranty Whirlpool states it will be 4 to 6 week before a technician can come out. YES- Weeks not days. Now Whirlpool states they are unable to find a technician in my area and in order to get it fixed I will need to hire the tech and seek reimbursement from them for the repair. However prior to the repair they will need to approve the repair. In the mean time I am renting a refrigerator at my cost. They lost a customer for life!!! Question- What is the purpose of the warranty? Model number: #WRT311SZDW00
Whirlpool GX5FHDXVB03 french door refrigerator: Continual water leaks. Condensation freezes in bottom of freezer compartment then leaks out on to floor. Per repairman, this is a common problem with this model which theyll come out and fix (remove ice and run hot water done drain line for a cost nearly $150) but it will happen again and again, etc. I cant tell you how many times weve had to perform this task. This is an engineering design defect that Whirlpool should fix.
We have a large family so when we needed a new refrigerator we found this very large unit (Whirlpool 32 cu). About this unit, its not really all that wide, but it is very deep. Lowes didnt have a model on the floor but we went by photos. Also the salesman showed us a smaller version of this unit and we were impressed with the design. However unlike the unit we saw the shelves arent adjustable. They are preset. Also the ice maker on top is very small and makes ice very slowly. The freezer section ice maker is much larger. The main complaint I have with that is unless you push the tray all the way to the back ice can drop behind the tray and fall down causing the freezer door not to always close properly, leaving you with semi defrosted food. Whoever designed this refrigerator was an idiot. All issues are really related to design flaws. This is a very expensive refrigerator. I expected a great unit and got a piece of crap instead. Stay away from this model at all cost. It would be smarter to buy 2 refrigerators instead if you have the room. This model will give you nothing but a headache and grief. This is our story about our experience. This all took place within 1 year. We bought it at Lowes. They were wonderful when it came to taking care of us when it was within the stores’ warranty. They really tried to help us. Once their warranty ran out they put us in touch with our new repairmen. Lowes did tell us that one other man bought the same unit and he was up to refrigerator # 15. Like I said, this unit is crap. Our first unit was delivered with a huge dent in the door. They took it back (lucky for us we have 2 other refrigerators).Second unit arrived in store also badly dented. They didnt bother to deliver that unit. Third unit arrives at store but back area around motor all dented up. They order a 4th unit. This unit wasnt dented up so they delivered it. However doors were very off and wouldnt line up so it didnt close properly. A 5th unit was ordered and same issue with the doors. A 6th unit ordered and they called telling me that it was all dented up and needed to order a new unit. Our 7th unit arrived and in 3 days started making funny sounds. Dual ice makers stopped working and inside refrigerator is was very warm. Lowes ordered #8. This unit the freezer doors werent lining up so #9 was ordered. This time everything seemed to line up, no dents however by the third month it started making a funny sound. Dual ice makers stopped working. Warm inside the refrigerator section. Lowes sent out a repair man. He explained a design flaw was not enough insulation around the fan so it was icing up. That was replaced and it was working nicely for 4 months. Same issues with fan icing up, the noise and no ice. The repair man came out again and mentioned what was kind of a recall with the unit. The control panel in the back of the refrigerator was wrong and needed the correct one to be put in. That was done. He told us that we shouldnt have any more issues with it.Same thing again. Same symptoms, same results...we had to throw out hundreds of dollars worth of food. (I just put in an entire prime filet mignon I planned for a special dinner and had to throw it out. OUCH!) Awaiting for the repair man, again. He will be out in 5 more days. Im sure it will be a new issue, a new brand new fix and it will work for a few weeks to months and we will be calling him again.
I bought a Whirlpool refrigerator water filter from the Marcone distributor. This distributor, whose name I received from calling the 800 number in your manual, did not send instructions on installation. I called Whirlpool and they did not have instructions on installation. The product is 4392949. In talking with your customer service department filters, I learned that the young man knew nothing about filters. He told me that the filter that I purchased was the wrong one. Its interesting that he tried to convince me without knowing my refrigerator model number. I asked if he wanted the model number and he said, yes, please. It was very sad how I had to do a song and dance with an idiot. I had no help from your company. I will return this water filter because I was not provided instructions for installation. Neither can your people produce them. For this reason, I will never purchase Whirlpool again.
We purchased a brand new Whirlpool refrigerator in December 2012. It is model # WRF989BAM, a French door style with the freezer in the bottom. We have had problems with this refrigerator since a few days after it arrived. The first occurrence was when we arrived home one evening to find water all over the floor, and food thawing out inside the freezer. Everything had to be thrown out or placed in a different refrigerator. I have no idea what that repairman did, but luckily that issue hasnt happened since. Something about the temperature controls. We have also had frost on the back inside panel, and it leaks inside the refrigerator constantly, so bad that we have to keep a large bowl inside to collect the water, and it has to be emptied two or three times a day. We have had two repairmen out to look at that. The first one installed a new filter, which seemed to fix the problem...for about a month until it started leaking again. They tell us these filters must be replaced every 3-6 months...interesting as it says on the refrigerator every 6 months. Regardless, we cant get a filter, or any other parts that the repairmen think it might need because parts take months to arrive. We bought this refrigerator under the recommendation of a technician who came out to repair the refrigerator we were replacing. Buy American he said. They last longer and the parts are easy to get. What a joke!
I have purchased a 3 door Refrigerator of Whirlpool on 27th October, 2014 from Sargam India Electronics Pvt Ltd. Now my refrigerator was not working properly. So we registered a complaint regarding same. On 3rd July your one executive came and he asked that its compressor is not working and we have to refill gas also and charges will be 2000 rupees for Gas and compressor is under warranty. Then on 4th July your another executive came with compressor and he worked for 1 hr on fridge then he asked, Compressor is not taking load. My senior will come tomorrow, mujh se nahi ho raha. On 5th July morning we got a call and he asked that he will come till evening. Now we got a call. They are asking that its not under warranty. Hum log paso mai dhik kar sakte hai. When purchased in 2014 last ist thing its under warranty only they have told us for 10 yrs. And we have purchased 4 yrs + back not 5 yrs completed. Apart from your customer service guys we never shown this to any one else as its under warranty, I am clearing this thing on prior notice. Senior are not taking action. They are asking we can do it in money. They are asking, If you want to go consumer court you can go.
Whirlpool wrf560seyw00 refrigerator plastic tasting water - Purchased 22 months ago. Did not think a warranty was necessary. Even if I had a warranty, they say they wouldnt have paid on the claim. I called Whirlpool asking for a one time goodwill policy adjustment considering Ive outfitted my home in all new Maytag/Whirlpool appliances over the past 3 years. In a nutshell, their plastic water lines to the dispenser in my fridge are deteriorating. There are plastic floaters and a horrible plastic smell and taste. You cannot drink it. First, they blame the filter mixing with the chlorine from my city water (go ahead and laugh... because thats just nuts) and when I told them I removed the filter two weeks ago and there are floaters in the water, they said my water still was to blame. Heres a thought... Dont use cheap plastic lines when you sell someone an expensive appliance! Is it really that difficult to offer a quality product? This is a smaller three-door unit (French on top w/ bottom freezer). There is no water holding tank because its small and we have a copper supply line. My neighbors dont have trouble with theirs either. I may be female but Im not an idiot. Maytag/Whirlpool corporation has lost a loyal 20 plus year customer.
Near 3 years ago we purchased this side by side going by how good Whirlpool products are supposed to be. Recently the bottom freezer started frosting up and not clearing. Tried all suggestions in the manual. Could not find any information online. The manual was useless. I went online to Whirlpool support 3 different times asking for help. Never got a reply. The racket it made was driving us crazy. It short cycled since it was frosting up. Set up an appointment online. They got that correct and responded quickly. Go figure. The tech came was very nice & professional. No warranty. Find out they only provide a one year warranty. That is absolutely nuts. A refrigerator should last 15 years with no major problems. Should not have needed a $500.00 extended warranty for a $1,300.00 refrigerator. Turned out 2 components needed replacing. Cost just over $400.00. Now were worried it is going to fail again in who knows how long. Whirlpool used to be a respected brand. Never again will we buy a Whirlpool product. 1 year warranty show you they know how cheap they are building their products.
I purchased a side-by-side Whirlpool refrigerator in May 17, 2010 from Lowes in Gilroy. After 17 months of service, the compressor went down this morning. I have called the service center and they cant give any help because it was over the 1-year limited warranty. More than $500 is good for just 17 months usage. Would it be worth it to have Whirlpool appliances? Do think about it before you choose a Whirlpool refrigerator.
Whirlpool gold series wrf990slam02, just 2 years old bought from Lowes, and repairman just told me that it has a Freon leak which apparently happens often. Will have to replace some items that might fix it but he did not sound reassuring. RUN dont walk away from this brand. I looked up these refrigerators after this all started and they have a 1 star rating. I should have done my homework on this.
This is my third Whirlpool refrigerator. The first two lasted about 20 years each, and although not fancy, they were always serviceable. This one is different.Because of my kitchen cabinets, the only refrigerator with as much storage capacity (cu ft) as my old one was what seemed to be an almost identical Whirlpool, with the only exception being a slight difference in the ice maker. But this one is a disaster. The water/ice dispenser has been changed to one with one space only for your container. The water that comes out is warm, because the routing of the tube has been changed and it no longer goes through the chilled refrigerator space; the ice pours out so hard that usually half of it lands on the floor. In order to operate the dispenser using anything with less than a 4 diameter, you need two hands: One to depress the lever behind your glass and one to hold the glass farther away from the refrigerator. Failure to do that results in a wet mess. After dispensing crushed ice, it continues to send small pieces flying long after I change the switch to cubes. But that is the least inconvenience. In an apparent engineering change to meet energy efficiency, the new refrigerator recycles air from the freezer to the refrigerator compartment. That and other changes in the frost-free engineering have resulted in:Uneven cooling in the refrigerator. In fact, it froze $1800 worth of insulin pens. I was advised by the Whirlpool representative that I shouldnt have put them on the shelf where the vent from the freezer spews out freezing air. Spoiled food in the freezer. Everything in the freezer develops a thick coating of ice crystals within a short time. This dries out the meat, shrinks the popsicles, and destroys the quality of fish and fowl. At this moment, I have two pork chops that defrosted in a plastic container on my kitchen counter. I bought them fresh, and now the 10-12 oz. of pork is swimming in over 1/2 c. of water.Interior fittings are poorly made and shelves and drawers do not work easily. The allegedly stainless exterior is difficult to clean, and many reviewers have remarked that they find rust within a few months. I could go on. There is more poor engineering, and an array of noises filling the kitchen, but you get the picture. I wish I could trash this refrigerator and buy a good one, but that isnt feasible both because of budgetary and space constraints. The last service person who came out sighed and told me that the refrigerator was cold, and that meant that the unit was operating okay! I HATE this refrigerator and struggling with it from day to day. My hope is that no one will buy a Whirlpool ever again. I certainly wont.Updated on 12/05/2017: Whirlpool, faced with my wrath over a refrigerator set on LOW that froze $1800 worth of insulin, provided a replacement (25 Cu Ft side-by-side refrigerator). I have owned two previous Whirlpool refrigerators -- for 20 years each -- as well as other Whirlpool major appliances. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER WHIRLPOOL APPLIANCE. The replacement is deficient in every design and functional aspect I can think of. Temperature is uneven in both freezer and refrigerator. Food in the freezer is coated with snow within a week and dried out and spoiled within a month. Ice comes out with such force that it ricochets out of the glass and around the floor. Water from the dispenser is warm. Leafy vegetables spoil within 2 days. Whirlpool sent technicians who informed me that the unit was working properly because it was cold. PIECE OF JUNK! DONT BUY ANYTHING MADE BY WHIRLPOOL!
I bought my fridge in late 2008 and I am already experiencing potentially expensive repairs due to what I believe is a defective design system, of which, consumers are having to bare the consequences for those who collected our hard-earned cash and delivered a lousy product! I saw so many similar complaints about the ice system on this fridge that I am almost positive that it qualifies for a class action suit and settlement. How about a collaborative approach to this since we have all suffered needlessly? Tell me what you think and if you are in on it.
I have a Whirlpool refrigerator model number wrx735sdhz and its been a lemon since I bought it. The ice machine totally backs up and the Chute overflows and Im always scooping ice out. Had another technician out today. He saw my frozen sour cream download Frozen pickles and everything else Frozen. Then because I had to have the ice maker replaced in March and it did nothing for the unit he reports back to A Plus Appliance that theres nothing to be done and he says his diagnostic tests come back that it is fine. Im going to post a very negative review about them. Lowes told me that if he would have reported differently they would have given me a voucher and refunded my money. So have another Appliance repairman come in tomorrow.I bought the extended warranty and so far its gotten me nowhere. As many times as Ive had to unclog it and throw away food I could have had technicians out here hundreds of times for this defective refrigerator. Plus on the two service calls I had they said that there has been numerous complaints about this model and the ice maker and freezing over. I have thrown thousands of dollars of food away over the last 2 years. Lowes extended warranty has got me nowhere.
Please contact me if a class action Lawsuit has been filed for I am one of those who spent close to 3,000.00 for a lemon and to get the runaround. I spent every penny I earned to buy a long lasting fridge (Whirlpool Gold Series) only to have a headache ever since I bought it. Only owning a year the freezer went out, yes I had to endure the loud noise, no ice. Then the thing would spoil my milk and ham making my stomach to be sick. The temp is 60•. The people that Whirlpool sends out are in cahoots. Told me my compressor is out and I just heard it kick on. We are currently using refrigerator we brought out of the travel trailer kitchen because this thing sucked out all my money.
My Whirlpool refrigerator is about 13 months old and the paint is peeling off. I was told my an associate at whirlpool that I could have a service person come replace it for approximately $500. And this is only for one door not both.
The ice builds up over two week periods and begins to leak onto the floor, requiring me to empty the freezer, chop out the ice and put everything back. The repair job is in the vicinity of $100. Check the net. This problem is endemic. Since this is a problem created during the manufacturing process, Whirlpool should be fixing this problem free of charge. I will never purchase another Whirlpool product.
This Whirlpool side by side 2 door Refrigerator/Freezer stopped working yesterday. It was manufactured in 04/2013, and I purchased it from Lowes on 5/26/2013. My invoice number is **. The last 2 refrigerators I have owned worked for well over 20 years each. Actually, longer, but I moved away from one of them. It is unbelievable to me that after 3 years, and 3 months, this unit has just stopped working. Of course, it is coming at a horrible time. In addition, it is summer time in Southern California, so the heat is high, and the desire for cold drinks and foods is also. It had been working well, until yesterday. Today, I am experiencing the foods become warmer and warmer. I will not be purchasing another Whirlpool Product of any kind.
This is a comment for the person with the ice maker problem. I have a side-by-side, in-door ice dispenser that clogs up. First sign of problem is either the ice wont come out or it comes out crushed. What happens is frost builds up in the path the ice takes at a couple of different points. The only solution I have found is as soon as the problem starts I turn off the ice maker using the switch on the inside of the freezer. Then let it empty with normal use (if you wait too long youve increased your problems). The release button for the ice bin has frozen by now so you cant just lift it out. The bin needs to be empty. When it is empty, work the bin loose and take it out. Youll find that frost and maybe cubes have collected, frozen and blocked the passage. Be sure to turn the ice bin on its side and spray water into the undercarriage to melt and remove all the ice build up there. I use a hot sponge to melt the frost in the ice tube and then dry everything. This gets messy so be prepared to have water on the floor. Dry the ice bin and reinstall it. Ice cubes will be ready to drop from the ice maker so it wont be long until you have plenty. I live in Florida with high humidity so need to go through this process about once a month. Its a pain, but now it is just part of owning this unit. Good luck and hope this helps.
11 months after I bought the fridge it started acting up. I paid 1900 for this thing. The temp kept getting warmer and the ice maker quit working. I had to pay for a service plan. Ill never buy a piece of junk Whirlpool product in my life again and ill broadcast their poor quality to everybody in my 5000 congregation. I work to save up to buy this product and its junk. Ill end donating it. Im very upset at this junk product produced by Whirlpool.
I purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator, model # ED2FHAX005, serial #SW1126490, two years ago. I have nothing but trouble with the ice maker. It keeps jamming up with frozen cube. While under warranty, I had it fixed but since then, it has happened twice more. The repairman who fixed it said there was a part missing and a part of the unit was melted. Not only that, but the plastic is coming off on the handle. Nobody at Whirlpool will help me. Too bad, there is no warranty anymore. This refrigerator is a lemon. I am so sorry that I purchased it.
I had noticed water on the floor and just thought someone left the freezer open. It started happening about every other day. I read online that it was probably from the drain in the bottom on the freezer being clogged or frozen, and I found instructions on how to fix it. After we took the door off, the drawers out, and the back panel off, then we started thawing the drain. Finally, I got it cleared out. Here I am, a month later, there’s water on the floor again.
My husband and I remodeled our home and needed a new refrigerator... I wanted to try a Samsung, but after exhaustive research on my husbands part, he insisted we purchase a Whirlpool fridge... From the get go, I have regretted that decision. The main reason being the door on the L side of the fridge does not close completely. Sure, it alarms for a time, but what about all the times I close the door and leave the house. I have had to dispose of more groceries than I care to think about... Never again will I purchase anything by Whirlpool!
My 3 door fridge is roomy, well lighted and well organized. I love the fact that when I open the doors, I can see everything at a glance. The freezer section is also well organized and holds plenty. Being able to get filtered water and ice in the door is convenient. The main reason I picked Whirlpool is that it is made in the USA! I want to support American manufacturers that employ my fellow citizens.
Just got new side by side to replace old one. Motor runs every 30 minutes. Stays cold and makes ice but Im concerned about noise. Called Whirlpool and was told to record noise and show to Home Depot where it was purchased. No help from either place. Need to call warranty company. Funny thing it arrived with pieces of some sort of shrub in drawers. I guess this is new and improved and energy saving like newer washer that takes 45 minutes to wash a load.
We purchased our suite of appliances from Home Depot, this was a great experience. Unfortunately that is were it stopped. Our 1st refrigerator caught on fire in the electrical within the unit. We got a 2nd refrigerator sent to us and it came damaged. Then they sent us a 3rd refrigerator and it caught on fire in the electrical as well. Weve been dealing with this all since August 27th 2019 and here its now October 14th 2019. At this point I feel this model of Whirlpool is truly unsafe.
Since May 3, 2016, five servicemen have failed to repair my Whirlpool refrigerator (WRF560SEYM), which is less than 2 yrs old. One trainee from A&E Factory Service had the nerve to reinstall broken parts. I have been completely without refrigeration for the past 48 hrs only to learn that the repairman scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled because AIG warranty has not approved his visit. Further investigation reveals that the parts were never ordered, pending approval from AIG. Whirlpool cant help me because AIG has not declared the appliance unfixable. Hhgregg cannot help. I have spent countless hours on the phone on hold & wasted hundreds of dollars on spoiled food. Dont trust Whirlpool. Theyre not the company they once were. Their warranties arent worth the paper theyre printed on. Buyer beware!
Purchased WRF989SDAM00 French Door refrigerator in 2013, and 33 months later it is not cooling (fridge 45/freezer 36 degrees). Service call diagnosis is a leak in the sealed component area. Since it out of the 1 year warranty period, nothing is covered. This is the first of Whirlpools dual evaporator models, and is technically challenging according to the service technician. Most likely one or both evaporators are defective, and this type of failure comes with a recommendation to change out the compressor as well as it is moisture compromised. As my previous Kitchen Aids had 10 year sealed component warranties, and the Whirlpool is the same base mechanism as the Kitchen Aid, I contacted Whirlpool to see if they would extend my warranty coverage to these sealed components. Website submission - never got an answer. Called the customer service line - they politely told me they were sorry but there is nothing they can offer me. Even the extended service plan would not cover me as this refrigerator has a preexisting problem and it must be 100% operational to begin an extended service contract.Im extremely disappointed in this fridge only lasting 33 months, in comparison to my previous Whirlpool/Kitchen Aid refrigerators. Of course the internet just allows me to see that Im not alone is purchasing a short lived appliance. So here is my contribution to the internet of things: Do not purchase Whirlpool refrigerators expecting them to last much beyond the warranty period. Buyer beware.
2 years ago, I bought my fridge from Home Depot and the delivery people did not leave a manual. I call to see if they could provide me one because I don’t know how to operate some parts of it. They told me they don’t send manuals anymore. She referred me to a website to download it from an online site. I told her I don’t have a computer. It would be easier if they can send me something in writing and this lady told me that they don’t. She asked- “and you come to us after two years? What have you been doing in the meantime? “And from then on she was very rude and she transferred me to another lady that was worse! I do not need this! And the fridge is very noisy. I’ll never buy Whirlpool again.
Im yet another angry customer who is dealing with a defective Whirlpool hot water heater purchased from Lowe’s, still under warranty, and it failed. The thermocouple appears to have failed and, amazingly, the part is nonstandard in that it screws in backwards compared to every other HW heater. Lowe’s doesnt carry the part even though they sold the HW heater. When I contacted Whirlpool, they agreed the part is under warranty and will send one, but I have to pay shipping for a minimum of $10 and a week to wait, plus having to get the part installed. Obviously, I am one of many who bought this defective appliance. Whirlpool used to be a good company, but Ill tell everyone to avoid them in the future. Meanwhile, I have no hot water and its freezing in Cincinnati.
Whirlpool Refrigerator: Model # WRT111SFDW - We bought this frost-free frig. in Feb of 2016 and this Feb. before the year was up, it started freezing up. I called the Co. and they sent a young man to my house to fix it and he thought he had. Well 2 wks after that it started freezing again and I called the Co. again and the same thing happened again and this was after my warranty had expired. Well then this young man came out and replaced the fan and a heating rod I believe to help it to stop freezing. Well 2 days ago it started freezing up once again. Im disabled and live on a fix income so now Ive got to figure out to get me another frig. And it WILL NOT BE A WHIRLPOOL REFRIGERATOR. But kudos to the Co. and the young man for trying to fix it even though it took 3XS and still not working.
It was obviously designed by someone who has never had to clean a refrigerator. There are grooves in the door gaskets seemingly making their sole purpose to collect crumbs and mold with no obvious way to keep them clean (No, Q-tips dont do it). A layer of ice forms below the basket in the freezer (bottom freezer) which, when it melts, soaks the kitchen floor. Ice must be chipped out at least every two weeks to avoid flooding.
3 years old and not cooling again. Enough said! For the 2nd time the refrigerator stopped cooling and was told it’s no longer covered and I would have to call service and be responsible for repairs 2500.00 later. I will be shopping for another refrigerator.
WRF993FIFM00 - HORRIBLE. I could not believe the reviews for this fridge... so I went ahead and bought it - WHAT A MISTAKE - service guy is at my house right now - fourth time in three months... fridge froze up and all my food has gone bad.
We recently purchased a refrigerator from a reputable local appliance store after months of shopping and comparing and research. As an opinion, Whirlpool seemed to set the standard for a quality appliance. Unfortunately, we failed miserably by buying this side-by-side fridge. Two unsolvable problems. First, the cold side door is extremely difficult to open. Ive tried ALL gasket lube methods and failed. Second, the stainless steel used on the front of the machine is obviously low grade that accepts magnets and is almost impossible to clean weekly without streaking. They were kind enough to provide us with their special cleaner {free} but it takes about an hour and a half to use for moderate success. The lady on the help desk listened but seemed rather cold and uninterested in the problems. At this point, we would be willing to pay the extra and go to a Kitchen Aid instead. Our advise is beware of these types of issues and get some kind of guarantee from your store when buying a WHIRLPOOL refrigerator. This is simply terrible.
We paid extra for a 10 year warranty on purchase from Airport Appliances. On delivery I commented that the plastic material used throughout the fridge was of very flimsy material and wobbly. In the first week the crisper drawer joint cracked to our amazement and they had to send another one from Whirlpool. In the 14th month after the Whirlpool warranty had expired, we found the pantry drawer lid/cover shattered by the door which shut on it because of no reasonable leeway provided in its design. On calling the special warranty people they said they only covered the compressor and parts and nothing else. Called Whirlpool who quoted $85.00 for the lid, plus S&H and taxes. Now we have an eyesore every time we open the fridge when we see the taped up cracked three foot pantry drawer lid. We badly regret giving away a 25 year old perfectly working Whirlpool Workhorse Fridge and buy this newer model which we will have to live with for a quarter of a century. I am 75 years old now. Never a Whirlpool again!
I am very disappointed with my purchase of the Whirlpool Refrigerator Model # WRF535SMB. As soon as the warranty ran out, it began having problems with ice build up in the bottom of the freezer. I see this is a common complaint and wish I had read the reviews earlier. The appliance is only 3 1/2 years old. Other complaints - impossible to clean the freezer. Mold build up on the seals. Glass plate shattered in a thousand pieces when I very gently set it on the counter.French doors, white, freezer at the bottom.
Purchased Whirlpool refrigerator at Lowe’s. Refrigerator would never get cold enough, so I exchanged with a Whirlpool Gold side-by-side refrigerator. After installation coffee was spilled behind refrigerator. I was unable to pull refrigerator out from wall to clean coffee spill from behind. When checking with Lowe’s on the 35th day, I was informed that Lowe’s 30 days warranty had expired and I would have to work directly with Whirlpool.I discovered it was very hard to communicate with Whirlpool; there was a problem that they only had on file the first refrigerator I purchased not the one I kept. The Whirlpool service rep did not seem very cooperative but with insistence they told me they would change my information to the correct model and serial number and a repair order was sent to a local service shop. The problem with not being able to roll the refrigerator out from the wall is that Whirlpool had changed their wheels to a tri-wheel support and there was not enough height on the single front wheel to lift the refrigerator to clear the screw down leveling stops on each corner. The service rep had no solution for the problem and had to call the Whirlpool service. He indicated he never was able to get assistance from that department. I told him I would talk to them as the consumer but they refused to discuss the matter with me, so I gave the phone back to the service tech. Whirlpool told the service tech to order replacement wheels of which I knew this would not resolve the problem. After two weeks, the replacement wheels arrived, the service tech installed them and as I expected they did not resolve the problem. I then requested the service tech to remove the rubber from the stops on the corner to allow for the additional required clearance and this solution worked. This is a very poor design for Whirlpool, but I accepted the results. Two weeks later I receive a phone call from the service business and they tell me that Whirlpool did not have the refrigerator model/serial number they worked on. Whirlpool was not willing to resolve the problem I had with them initially and the service business would have to bill me directly and was not covered under the warranty. At this point I lost it and informed the service business I resolved this model/serial number with Whirlpool before. Whirlpool gave them the authorization to work on the refrigerator and they would need to collect the fees from Whirlpool. I have purchased my last Whirlpool appliance mostly because Whirlpool makes it very difficult or refuses to talk to the consumer and it appears the quality is no longer there. Will Whirlpool become the next Kodak? With this kind of service, people will just quit buying from them.
I bought refrigerator in Feb 2017. Within 18 months internal surface got crack, contacted customer care but I would say Whirlpool India customer care department is worst across world, no courtesy towards customers, contacted them over phone very bad attitude, no response on email. Product quality is worst, its better to buy Indian brands. They are much better in quality & service. Totally dissatisfied with Whirlpool approach, at the end Whirlpool customer care is not at all bothered.
Whirlpool Gold model WRS526SIAHOO - We purchased this refrigerator 10/2013 with all the matching appliances when we remodeled the kitchen. We moved our 1997 GE refrigerator into the garage. Now the computer board has gone out in the Whirlpool and we are back to using the 97 GE. The technician told me that he sees a lot of these boards going bad.
We purchased in July 2016 from Best Buy. Very nice product. Our former Whirlpool had lasted 20 years and was a work horse for our family. The new one began not freezing ice cream in November. Then, it would periodically freeze things very well and then not freeze items fully. We contacted Best Buy thinking we had a lemon. Worthless - no help. Told us to contact Whirlpool directly. The repair person came out today and told us that our refrigerator cannot be in our garage outdoors because the energy efficiency of the refrigerator causes it to shut off when the surrounding temp drops below 54F. Our former Whirlpool had been outdoors in our garage in that spot for 18 years, no problems. The new models now no longer operate if the air cools down around them. What!? There is no warning information, no sales information, no way to learn this until after you shell out 1000 dollars and lose your frozen food. It is in the manual in fine print, but we didnt read the manual cover to cover when we got the refrigerator, and we sure didnt read it BEFORE we bought it. And no one at the store, nor the installation people who represented Best Buy as paid installers told me I couldnt have this outside, even though I specifically told them I was buying it for our outside extra fridge and freezer to replace the old one, and the installers installed it outside. Technically our refrigerator is working as its supposed to apparently. However, I think it should prominently be noted on pre-sales materials that it must be operated indoors only (in climates always >54 degrees). Now I have a new refrigerator that I cant use as an extra in our garage. Apparently all the new fridges are energy efficient like this and shut off below 54. I cannot find any info on the internet about this, or any other complaints about a similar situation to mine. How does that make any sense? Freezing is 32 so any frozen goods will thaw, by default, always, if the machine is in cool environments. Phooey on this design spec. Dumb engineers.
When the fridge is running and there is a power loss of about a second or so, the fridge shuts down and will not restart (even after hours). I have to unplug it for a minute or so then plug it back in; it runs fine until the next very short power failure. When we are out of town for a few days and that happens, we come home to a fridge of ruined food and a mess. I have contacted Whirlpool (2 times) and they were no help at all. It seems to me a software change could solve the problem, but they are unwilling to listen.
How can Whirlpool deliver a new refrigerator/freezer and refuse to include a shelf in the freezer even though there are rails built in on the sidewalls to support a shelf??? Of course they will sell me one. The cheapness of todays manufacturers is appalling especially in light of the prices they charge.
I purchased a Whirlpool upright freezer from Sears 17 months ago and it stopped working. I find the warranty is only 12 months. I contacted Whirlpool and they left a message on my answering machine that they would not be allocating any funds for the repair of this 17 month old freezer. I spent in excess of $600.00 and I am highly disappointed. I would never buy another Whirlpool anything.
