Recently purchased a home (Feb 2018). The seller replaced all appliances prior to selling including a Rheem water heater. The water heater became defective in less than a year. The company refuses to honor its 12 year warranty for the product installed less than a year ago due to the fact I am not the original purchaser of the unit. What happened to companies standing behind their products? I started looking at reviews and have found very few that have been positive about this household name company. Will not be purchasing any products from Rheem in the future. Very disappointed.

Had a water heater installed approx. 3 months ago. 3 weeks ago it started tripping the circuit breaker. After inspection, we found the insulation around the lower heating coil was soaked so had the lower heating coil replaced and dried everything out. Last week it started doing it again. Upon closer inspection they found the tank was leaking higher up and was irreparable. When I spoke with Rheem customer service I requested to speak with the service reps supervisor/manager who told me in a flat tone that while Rheem would cover the part and materials they did not have to cover the cost of labor. When asked why I should have to cover the labor cost to replace a 3 month old unit that only needs replacing due to a fault that is their responsibility, I was given the same flat-toned scripted response. I assured them if Rheem was not going to be flexible enough to work with its customers when the cost should rightly fall to them then I would not waste another cent with them and ensure anyone I encountered knew why.All work done by a licensed/certified/bonded contractor that Ive done business with for many years and has an impeccable reputation. This is not my first encounter with Rheem but it is also nothing different. Im usually a forgiving person but things like repetitive bad customer service stick with me for a long time and though this incident may cost me a couple hundred dollars I will do my best to ensure it cost them as much as possible in lost customers. My advice? Avoid Rheem products at all cost.

I am very dissatisfied with my tankless water heater. Our problem of no hot water started in June of 2011 and we continue to have this problem. Tankless water heater would work for few weeks then start flashing error code 11 or 12 on the monitor, and no hot water. This issue continued on and off for a while and now, it has gotten worst. Weve contacted Rheem customer care several times and each time, they all seem to tell us different reason for our problem. It really is a challenge trying to see if we will have hot water each day. Just recently, Rheem representative told my husband the gas line pipe is the wrong size. Thats not true because weve already checked the line, valve, gas flow, etc. They dont know what the heck they are talking about. They must read the problem manual given to them when they were hired. Weve also had Rheem authorize repairer looked at it. They have no idea what or how to fix this problem. Between Rheem customer care and Rheem authorized repairer, I dont know which one is worse because they are just one sorry ** after another. My husband and I are seriously thinking about switching back to the good, old-fashion water heater because we never had any problem with it. When our friends talk about installing tankless water heater, we tell them dont get Rheem tankless water heater because it sucks!

We bought a water heater in 2009. 2014 - realized it was leaking all over the garage. Called the big box store from which we purchased and was told we would only get $140.00 credit towards a new water heater. To my understanding GE and Rheem are no longer affiliated so the warranty becomes pro-rated. Therefore the 12 year warranty we thought we were getting is no longer good. I called the 800 number on the water heater and talked to 3 different people. 2 were very rude. The last lady I spoke to gave me an address to write a letter and complain. If there is a class action lawsuit in the works, I would love to be part of it. Rheem owes me $490.00.

Please dont purchase a rheem heating/ac unit. I purchased a Rheem unit in November 2014 and my ac unit has already gone out twice this summer. I have been dealing with this problem since April through August 2016. I have had an ac tech person come to my residence on several occasion trying to find out why my ac unit doesnt hold the freon that was put in come to find out it was leaking freon in the coil; the ac tech guy ordered a new coil which I had to pay for the shipping cost and after installation on the new coil it still leaked freon only at a faster level. The freon would go out after 24 hours of being put in the system.I spent a $3500 on this unit only to be a piece of junk, save yourself the time and trouble on the product and dont buy at all. I have already emailed the company they called but no return call at this time. I dont understand why Consumer Affairs doesnt have this product or company pay for the problems it is causing if you read the reviews many people are going through the same problem. This company should not be selling products at all they are already in trouble for selling faulty water heaters.

We bought ten of the direct vent models for our 10 apartments and they turned out to be the worst nightmare we got into. Everyone has failed either with hard lockout or leaking at the drain valve. Their technical support is always looking to deflect the fault to installation, venting or something else. Their use a plastic pipe for drain valve which cracks and leaks. We was on the phone every other day to asked for support. Some of the techs came to their sense and request brass drain valves, many of them just insisted on sending the same plastic valve again. They never tested these drain valves. Everyone has a hairline crack which leaks out water making a mess. Every time this happens, it takes them a couple of days to send replacement. After I gave a scathing review on their website, they quit talking to me. I now pledge to make sure consumers do not buy these direct vent heaters again from Rheem. Please avoid at all costs!

My experience thus far with Rheem and the support has been dismal. We bought and installed our first solar hot water tank using a recommend Rheem System. Since install, the 15 year old tank used to fill a soaker tub but the new one will not. Apparently we were recommend the wrong one and this unit is meant for a large solar heating array, not a small 2 collector system. Nobody asked about the size of the collectors. A month to get the proper spec sheet once it would not even fill the tub half way. Over a month to be told that it is the wrong unit and it is not meant for our cold climate and a small collector system. This have been going on since January and still no real response from them. No solutions and no help to follow up from our rep or Rheem to date.

Told us to buy an expansion tank. If that didnt do it to return it. Returned it for a new one and guess what. It leaked too!!! I have never been so frustrated with a product. Purchased at Home Depot in 2017 a 40 gallon Rheem Water Heater, paid for installation from handyman. All was well for about a year when the gas assembly unit went out about a year after initial installation. Forward to February 8, 2020 and the water heater quit again. The first time it quit Rheem had a local installer replace the Gas Control Unit part. This time they just sent the part. I installed it last night and nothing. I can ignite the pilot, but it wont stay lit. I called Rheem again and the gentleman said it sounds like the pilot assembly. So now I have to wait for that part to show up... And I have to install the part. I am so over this company and their failed water heater. Shame on Rheem for not standing by their product and doing the right thing. Shame on them for making a grandma install their failed parts. Shame on Rheem.

On Tuesday, May 1, 2018 my water heater, which was purchased and installed on 8/28/17 stopped working. We contacted Rheem and was told that they would send a replacement part and would send someone to install it. After we received the part, Rheem told us that they did not have anyone to service our area and we would have to find our own person. We contacted several companies and we finally found someone to come out, but they wanted to be paid at the point of service. The contractor informed us that it was the wrong part, so we contacted the company again and they sent us another part. The new part arrived on Friday, May 4, 2018 and after installation the contractor informed us that the machine needed to be replaced. We contacted Rheem again and they told us that they would put in a request for replacement through one of their companies and we would be contacted within 24 hours. We waited the entire weekend and Monday morning to be contacted. Finally, we called Rheem back and they gave us the number to the contractor whom they sent the order. The contractor told us that they told Rheem that they do not service the area. We contacted Rheem again and they told us that they would need 24 more hours to contact another company. On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, I was told by a rude representative that they have done all they can do and she would transfer me to another department, who she said could help me. I spoke with a new rep who was more understanding of the fact that I have not had hot water in over a week; however, he put me on hold and transferred me to another department. I spoke with another rep who told me that I can find a person on my own because it was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with a manager and she told me to hold on and transferred me to Fidelity Bank. We have not found a company who are wants to work with this company and no one can help us with this faulty product.

16 year old water heat started leaking. I replaced it with a Rheem 50 gallon Power Vent Propane Water Heater. After 3 weeks it would only heat water to luke warm (tepid) then shut down. I read the bad reviews on this website and thought I made a big mistake. I bought it a Home Depot and had to drive 70 miles to pick it up. The Energy Dept created new standards effective April 2015 and there were only 2 in Southwest Ohio. Cant go without hot water very long (spoiled Americans). With all the bad reviews, why would HD carry this product?I called Rheem customer service and MY experience was the OPPOSITE of everything posted on this site. All were most helpful to troubleshoot. Sent a new pressure switch. I changed it and that didnt fix it. I am a very good DIY person. There arent that many parts to a water heater but a Power Vent heater is a little more complicated. I think I ended up (ultimately) speaking to 5 customer service people. The last was a guy that only advised on Power Vent models. He asked about the baffle in the middle under the Power Vent. I was sticking out about 1 inch but looked normal to me as I didnt know what was normal/abnormal. Apparently during the drive from Columbus to Cincinnati it worked itself out (it should be flush with the shoulder). I asked if I could set on its side during transit and the HD person said yes as long as I didnt set it on the side with the controls. Made sense but the baffle vibrated out a bit. The fuel/air ratio was confused. Anyway the last guy told me to push this baffle down. It was firm. I put a piece of wood on it and gave it a quick bang and it went down flush!!! I powered it up and it now produces scalding water. Hot setting is plenty. You do not need VERY HOT. You will get burned. To summarize, I wanted to counter all the bad reviews about Rheem water heaters and let others know they WILL help you and send a part/technician right away if necessary. Working perfectly now.

My plumber purchased a Ruud Pacemaker about 8 years ago and installed in my garage, 4 years later it burst from the bottom and flooded my garage, ruining a bunch of personal items. Plumber comes back out and replaces defective heater and puts in a brand new replacement, even though the replacement was free I still had to pay the plumber $350 to install. Well now its five years later and the replacement had water coming from the top of the water heater, another defective heater, my garage flooded again, personal items ruined again!! I call claims dept and they tell me theres nothing they can do because my warranty was only good for the life of the first water heater? What? You have defective products that ruin my garage twice and cost me all kinds of money and theres nothing they can do? How about you make a better product!! I had my water pressure checked and it was fine so thats not the issue, the issue is that these water heaters are junk and Do Not Buy!! They are horrible water heaters, made by a company that doesnt stand behind their products, and insert language in their warranties that screw the consumer in the end. I will be looking for other consumers like me that bought these defective products and hopefully get some type of class action lawsuit going cause I know theres a lot more people that feel the same way I do. I now replaced with a Kenmore and it actually heats the water faster than the Ruud.

My house came with a Rheem water heater. It was 5 yrs old when we moved in, after 3 year it started to leak and corrode around the top. We replaced it with another Rheem in 2013 brand new. In 2016 it failed, just stopped working. I called the plumber who installed it. He said nothing he can do so I called Rheem. They said I need to check it with a multimeter? The guy told me to go buy one. I asked my plumber who got on the phone and he somehow got them to replace the water heater, but I have to purchase another warranty.Five hundred and fifty dollars later to be installed it was working but not as hot as our last one. Then one year later 2017 it stops working again. My plumber is disabled and retired, so I call Rheem and after being on hold for hours they tell me again to get a multimeter to check whats wrong. If is electronics or an element they can tell me how to replace it. First of all, my parents had water heaters for 40 years. These only last for year? Im no electrician, Im not taking apart a water heater and fixing this junk! Im done buying anything from this bottom feeder. That is why they are in the home improvement stores. They are junk!

In late 2015 we purchased a Rheem water heater from Home Depot for a rental property. We paid a plumber to install it. After installation, the water heater made loud bangs after use. The plumber recommended running the water for a while to release air in the pipes. The water heater continued to bang until it eventually stopped working. We paid to have the plumber take it back to Home Depot for a replacement. We paid the plumber to install the new water heater, which banged as well. Reading in to the instructions further, we were advised to install an expansion tank. We bought the tank and again, paid a plumber to install it. This new water heater continued to bang!I finally called Rheem who admitted this was a manufacturers defect. They would send a local company out to move the pilot light closer to the burner. When I asked if they planned to reimburse us for our expenses they declined. When I asked why the water heaters are still on the floor at Home Depot their response was we dont have problems like this with all of them. When I spoke with the local company they sent out to move the pilot light I asked if they deal with issues like this often and they said All the time. I also asked Rheem if we could have a new water heater because I was worried that damage had already been done to the heater currently installed. They declined.

Now Im told that I will receive an e-mail in a couple of days telling me how to get a part a couple of days after that. That means no hot water for six days. Request to speak to a supervisor. After 30 minutes on hold, I get tier 2 support - just another call center. Told that the warehouse is closed at 3:00 pm and the part might ship tomorrow - meaning only five days with no hot water - If they really do ship the part and it isnt defective - which some other posts suggest it might be. Purchase brand new water heater from HOME DEPOT. Had it installed correctly. It leaked. Submitted pictures to Rheem and they said it was a manufacturers defect and gave me $250 to get it unhooked, returned and a new one installed! $250, in their own words, is the National Average for reinstallation. No plumber would even unhook it for $250 let alone install a new one. We live in Mississippi, not New York or LA. Surely, the National Average would suffice here. Ive spent $300 to get it installed, another $300 to get it returned and another $300 to get it reinstalled. And all they can give through their warranty program is $250. Its their poor workmanship that caused all of it. NEVER BUYING THIS AGAIN. DECIDED TO GO WITH AN AO SMITH WATER HEATER. GREAT QUALITY!!!

I hired a licensed contractor to install a new Rheem water heater. After 6 months the new water heater leaked, it had a crack in the tank. The contractor replaced the water heater under warranty. A Couple months later the water heater failed. I contacted Rheem and they sent parts to my house and contacted their approved/authorized contractor to replace the parts. When the repair was made, their contractor dented in the side of the tank. When I contacted Rheem they told me it is not their problem and that I need to take it up with their contractor and that I would never be able to prove it. Their contractor does not respond to any forms of communication. The Rheem representative were very rude and unprofessional. So I paid ~$2,000 for a damaged, unsightly water heater. Plus, is it safe? Will the damage cause the tank to rupture or leak hot water?

6 years ago, I purchased a RHEEM water heater from Home Depot which lasted only 3 years with only two in the household. June 18, 2015, I purchased an American Standard from a private retailer after researching the best water heater to purchase which also lasted only 3 years. It was a terrible, stressful ordeal with both companies. Rheem and American Standard each sent parts for their 6 year warranty stretching two weeks until Im stressed to the point of purchasing a new one because none of the parts solved the problem. Apparently this is what these companies count on... the customer getting fed up to the point we choose to buy another water heater for $800 every 3 years in exchange for a hot shower!!! I am a single parent working part time for LAUSD on summer break with $766 to my name. There goes our summer savings... again. Time to try another company. Im convinced all are the same... they may last 3 years with if youre lucky. Its like pulling teeth to get them to honor the warranty, and you will not get a replacement without spending a ton of money for a licensed professional in the process, which is why Im buying another brand. The water heater I had when I moved here lasted approximately 12 years with no problems. Old school. They dont make them like they used to. See you all in 3 years.

Despite both leads providing 120VAC, I was told it was an electrical problem, determined by ONE test, and dismissed. No other diagnostics were performed and no interest in what, where are when anything happened. Describing the problem and steps taken was of no interest to the teenager on the other end. I bought a Rheem water heater in June. Well 5 months later, it started showing errors on the gas control. Also I would sometimes have hot water and other times I would not. Had their service techs come and try and fix. Called Rheem Numerous times and they said it was the gas control and sent me a new one. The tech comes over and installs the new gas control and guess what still doesnt work and I have no hot water. I call Rheem and they say we will send you another gas control. I say you just sent me a brand new one. He says Yes I know. I say I have a family with no hot water for two weeks now and I want you to get me a new water heater under the warranty as its only 5 months old. Rheem says no we wont do that. So I had to buy another water heater and not Rheem of course because I had no hot water heater that would work and all three techs said they couldnt fix it and Rheem wouldnt replace it. Rheem doesnt stand by their warranty. I called Rheem again and told them Im going to have to take them to small claims court and they said ok, good luck to you. This company is horrible and doesnt stand by their work or warranty. I asked them to reimburse me for the water heater and they said no.

I purchased and installed my Rheem gas hot water heater Dec. 2, 2020. For 7 months I didnt have a problem but then like most people on here my pilot light went out while I was out of town so wife had no hot water. When I got home I lit the pilot and thought it was fine only to find out it went out again. Saturday evening I changed the thermocouple I bought that day at Home Depot the same place I bought the water heater so that night after changing that and it not lighting and changing back to the old one I figured it was probably the gas control valve. Sunday morning back to Home Depot to find out none of them had a gas control valve in stock. The gentleman at the store called Rheem and right away placed on hold for 20 minutes till he used another phone to call again. This lady was helpful saying they can get a plumber out but who knows when, so instead she sent me a thermocouple and a gas control valve.I had to go back out of town Sunday so another week the wife doesnt have hot water. The part arrived before I got home so I changed it as soon as I walked in the door. Took around 30 minutes. So today I called to see if they can send me a spare gas control valve because I shouldnt have to go over a week without hot water and this original one lasted 7 months so Im sure this new one will go bad. But I was told they dont ship out spare parts. This was all after being caller 39 and being on the phone for 58 minutes before getting hung up on. When this one goes bad the water heater is gone. Heads up when changing the gas valve mine came with a screw in plug in the hole I needed for my pilot gas line, make sure to plug the other hole if you have to remove one because I wasnt aware of that and had my house smelling like gas fast. Rheem needs to plug both holes and let the consumer unplug the one he/she needs. It could save a life.

I purchased a brand new 40 gallon Rheem water heater in November of 2019. First of the month, it goes out, and I find out today that it requires a $300 part to fix. Im just past the year warranty on parts so for a brand-new appliance I have to pay basically half the purchase price of the water heater itself just to possibly get it back in working order. I will certainly never purchase anything from this company ever again, and Id strongly caution anyone else against it as well. I have never been this livid with a company in all of my 40 years.

From reading the other reviews this seems the consensus with hot water heater by Rheem. I wish I would have read these before my purchase. I purchased and installed the hot water heater on a Friday in January 2021. Followed the instructions and waited the amount of time for the water to heat. It game hot water for about 5 minutes and then continued to blink and indicate re-heating. Called the company that it states on the side of the water heater and the person I talked to was less than accommodating. I have contacted a plumber to come and look at the water heater that is failing to heat. Do not buy this product. With every purchase there is a possible issue that consumers must deal with BUT customer service should follow.

I will never again buy a Rheem water heater, and I recommend you dont either. Two years ago I bought, had installed, at a cost of over 1200.00 a Rheem water heater. You would think that the manufacturer of this product would stand behind it. Well they dont. To have this unit fixed it cost me an additional 600.00 dollars. Their response was, Sorry sir. We cant help you. Two years for something that should of lasted at least eight years. By the way that is what they told me my warranty was good for. So do yourself a favor and never buy a Rheem water heater, or any other of their products.Shame on you Rheem. I am certain Im not the only one who got reamed.

Our Rheem Performance Platinum water heaters control panel started an electrical fire. I have numerous documents on it - fire department report, photos, etc. It caused smoke damage and carpet damage to our home. We are out a $2500 home insurance deductible due to the faulty appliance. After the incident I searched online regarding the particular make and model of this water heater and found out there is a recall for this very same reason. We were never notified by the manufacturer of this recall/defect. I had sent in my warranty card the day we had the water heater installed, but still did not receive notification. Notification could have prevent this fire at our house. I have tried contacting Rheem several times and have not received a response.

August, 2021, Rheem sent me the controller/gas valve device. Had my installer swap the controller, paid $150. The new controller was dead, did not work! Installer put old controller in so I would at least have hot water. Called Rheem again, they said to remove and bring back to Home Depot. Even though the problem started in less than a year they will not cover installation. So now I have to pay. Going to file with small claims court now. Bought a Rheem tankless hot water heater in Summer 2012. Installed by licensed plumber. Unit froze up in the very cold weather we had this winter, and the copper tubing split. Plumber said he could repair unit, but Rheem wont sell parts. The plumbing supply house where I purchased it told me that they no longer sell Rheem units.Contacted their customer service. Was disconnected after long waits 8 times just as I was at the You are customer number 5 stage before finally getting a woman who gave me a direct number to the tech department which was answered immediately. I was requested to take pictures (inside unit, and outside) and email them, which I did. That was nearly a month ago. I have heard NOTHING back from them, despite two other emails. My next step is contacting the Mississippi State Attorney Generals Office. The unit worked well and saved me over $80.00 a month on my electric bill, but I have now been without hot water for nearly 5 months. Hoping that I can get this thing fixed. Probably will have to buy a new unit and it WILL NOT be a Rheem.

Bought a hot water tank Feb 2018. 5 days later it went out! Water leaks no hot water! Called customer service and they said, Maybe get you someone tomorrow? I cant afford to pay again to have their faulty water tank replaced? And why should I? It was ONLY 4-5 days old? Yet customer service said maybe tomorrow??? So I called again the c/s department to check if someone would be coming Wed Feb. 14th. The man Mike was very rude. I asked if he could see if someone would be coming to repair my water heater? He asked for model # on heater which I didnt have. I was calling from work on my lunch break. Then was told maybe he could get it under my name? Ok good idea.He found a Mr. Build repair person listed and should call me tomorrow. I ask Mike, Will I get this issue fixed by tomorrow? The tech. makes the decision? O.k? Yet will it be fixed tomorrow? Mike said, I DONT KNOW! Either he orders parts or if 2 people are need to replace the tank he would have to get someone? I was in shock not just by the tone of this mans voice of being irritated yet that a company LIKE Rheem cant take care of the issue in a timely and professional manner. We should go without hot water for 3 days or more on a hot water tank bought through HOME DEPOT 4-5 days earlier? Still under warranty (90 days). And inconvenience us for product failure? And pay another $300.00 plus to have it installed???Then I tried to return technician call. Left at 3:45 pm to my home? I call the technician... Not only that night after getting home from work at 7 pm leaving a message I also called the technician at 8 am Wed morning and at 9:30 am both leaving messages no real person guarantying they would return a call. And still here at 10:15 am. NO return call to confirm. They would be here between 4 pm and 7 pm. NOW still wondering will we have HOT water tonight??? Happy Valentines DAY right.

This happened on a Saturday and Rheems office was closed.I called Rheem on Monday for them to tell me I had to go through who I purchased the hot water tank through which was Home Depot. A representative at Rheem told me they would reimburse the labour to install the new tank. Im still waiting as of today being February 13, 2017. Rheem has the worst customer service I have ever had. Repeated this scenario several times. Called installer who referred me to warranty service man. Fixed at no charge but I was told that it was going to fail again, and while the part would be free, a service charge would apply after 1 year of installation. Service man said it is a design flaw, probably caused by the Closed Heating Chamber and the unit was not getting enough ventilation. They make these things to break so they can make more money off of you. Bought this from Home Depot just less than a year ago. Gas valve went out last Wednesday. Big sticker on front of water heater says not to return to Home Depot but to call their 800 number. Over the past 6 days I have spent a minimum of 5 hours on hold waiting for them. While this is still under warranty (parts & labor) you will have to pay $30 if you want your part expedited (whatever that means, as the part is STILL not here on day 6). Worst customer service EVER. I was told you knew what the problem was...the panel blinking lights told you. Your email with the tracking number mustve gone into your spam folder. Among please hold like 20 times. Six days after the gas valve went out, I am still waiting for them to actually get the part to FedEx for shipping...They have received shipping info, but not the part to send out. I understand that once the part is here in CA, in my hand I can call their contracted plumbers to come install it. They absolutely wont set up an appointment until the part arrives (apparently they know how RHEEM customer service works). Then I will have to wait 2-4 days for the plumber to come. I can contact my own plumber, but will have to pay them and then get reimbursed...Doesnt sound promising. Strongly suggest you look at another brand.

However, aside from the six year limit, this unit has been defective from the start with major replacement parts, motor, vents, etc., which are on file with Rheem. Now, the water heater itself is leaking a few weeks over warranty. This unit is defective and should have been replaced. Does Rheem considers 6 years to be the normal working life of their water heater? Since I have been informed by the plumber that this is the only water heater that can be installed, I have no choice but to replace with inferior Rheem water heater again. Thereafter, the pilot light had to be lit, but then would only stay on less than an hour. Then I lit again. The next day it was out. So I called tech support and they ask for pictures of install. I send. By this time, I call my plumber who installed unit. He could not get it going. So I call tech support again, they say thermal couple is bad and they send one. Their plumber comes out to install and the darn heater still wont light. So he call company and tells them its the igniter switch wire is bad, they send that out. Their plumber comes back, installs switch, gets the heater going. Within an hour, its back out. So I call tech support yet again, the guy says its the control now, so hell send that. Now it wont light, so hot water. This has been a nightmare. I will not buy another unit from this company, this has been hell. Stay away, you wont regret it.

Yesterday around 5:30 pm I heard a loud popping sound and looked up. Saw sparks coming from the lower level of my home. Upon further investigation, I started to see and smell smoke. Once I figured out where the smoke was coming, I quickly discovered the source of the smoke, which was from my Rheem hot water heater that had caught on fire.

We purchased a 40 gallon Rheem water tank at The Home Depot. I installed the device myself. When it was time to start up the water heater, the pilot light would not ignite. I called Rheem and spoke with a representative who walked me through the troubleshooting process. He determined the pilot assembly unit was faulty and that he would send out a new one. This new unit would arrive in two days - which would be Tuesday. The part did not arrive until Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. To make matters worse and prolong our life without hot water, a contracted plumber could not install the new part until Monday, December 2. Our previous water heater lasted for thirteen years without any issues. This Rheem piece of junk couldnt even get started on install! Reading the reviews here, Im concerned about the longevity of this $400+ device weve purchased and am strongly considering removing and returning it to The Home Depot. A greatly disappointed homeowner and customer.

When this water heater started not working properly, after 5 years, with a 12 year warranty, Rheem made it VERY DIFFICULT and time consuming to get through their phone systems (hold times of 30+ minutes and no answer) to set up appointments, months have gone by. Rheem plumbers have been out twice, Rheem has not fixed the water heater, and now say we need to disconnect and return to Home Depot to get a credit. This would cost hundreds to have a plumber come do this, and in addition HD says they dont have this model number so we can not return it there. No use to have a 12 year warranty that doesnt actually help at all. What a rip off, Dont buy Rheem!

We installed a Rheem tankless water heater system in February 2017 and starting about a year ago, it has consistently failed to produce hot water. It appears to be a computer/software problem, as our plumber is able to reboot it, but we have not been able to do so following the manual. The reboot may last a few weeks, or 24 hours, and there seems to be no discernible trigger. Our next step will be to remove the system and replace it with traditional water heaters.

We bought the Rheem Water Heater 2 years ago. First 6 months, the Honeywell gas control light flashing 7 times and no hot water at all. My husband called Rheem, they said the Gas Control failed. They charged around $100 for sending a new gas control. Recently, the gas control failed again. This time is in cold season and we waited one week for the part coming. Thats horrible when we do not have hot water in used. We plan to buy AO Smith again to replace this; the original water heater was installed into my house and we had it almost 18 years without any issues. Thank you for reading.

Our hot water heater went out and our plumber installed a new one. It would not continuously heat water. Got it traded out for another. Same Problem. For 2 months now, I have to go clear down stairs and reset the system for it to heat water. Now Rheem authorized another plumber to come out and diagnose the issue. The new plumber is saying we need to rip out our 2 inch vent pipe and put in 3 inch vent pipe. Why would we not be told up front this system requires 3 inch versus the 2 inch that houses only 10 years old or so all have!!!

DO NOT PURCHASE A RHEEM WATER HEATER! If I could give them zero stars, I would. Our water heater started leaking 2 yrs after install (rusted out). The DAY we were getting a new one, the front panel burst into flames, resulting in a call to 911. Thankfully, we were home, or our house would be gone & our pets would be dead! My husband took it back to Home Depot, but because we didn’t have the receipt (?!?), they would only issue store credit. They only sell Rheem, so NO WAY we’re we going to get another one. We went to Lowe’s and are out another $410 for a different brand. When I called customer service, I spoke with 3 different people. NOT ONE of them apologized or showed any remorse for our house fire; in fact, they didn’t even sound surprised. The Sr. Rep I spoke with (who claimed she was the highest up person I could speak with over the phone) tried to tell me it was our fault (no), our electric system (no again), and then tried to tell me it was Home Depot’s fault (they didn’t make the unit, YOU DID!). They were HORRIBLE, and tried to buy me off with a $100 “Customer Satisfaction Check”. I declined, telling them that didn’t cut it; I wanted the full price of the new water heater I had to buy out of pocket. She continued to be rude, refuse, and treat me like a know-nothing nuisance. All I was ultimately given was the address & email of their corporate headquarters to take the matter further. (Apparently there are no phones at corporate.) So now I’m gathering up all of my documentation (fire report, photos, etc.). If there’s a lawsuit forming out there, I’ll GLADLY join!

We bought the 30 gallon water heater March 3, 2021 and was installed the next day. The tank started large amounts of water from all over the tank. We had to turn off the water supply since we could not get it to stop leaking. I thought Rheem was a good brand but I am finding out that it is not. To top it off I have tried calling their help phone line 6 times and each time I just get disconnected the last 2 times I called. The first time I called 800-621-5622 the calls never picked up, never went through or the recording said there would be a 1 hour and a half wait. Not very good customer service! I have purchased Rheem Tankless Water Heater. Their warranty states 5 years. My heater broke recently and had to be replaced. Rheem renewed their water heater since my purchase and new unit had to be installed. Even though it was under warranty I was charged $100 extra to get the new unit. Their warranty is not really good if they charge you for the new unit especially when there is an issue with their own equipment. On top of that I had to pay labor again which was not covered under the warranty and I understood. I contacted Rheem directly, however, they pointed me to their distributors and it is not up to Rheem while the distributor clearly pointed to Rheem.

I had completed construction of my new home in 2001 with a 40 gallon Rheem water heater. It lasted until mid year 2012 at which time it developed a leak in the side of the tank about half way down from the top. I was surprised that it only lasted eleven years when past experience was more like 20 to 25 years. I purchased a Rheem 50 gallon water heater on 6-20-12 and immediately experienced trouble with the lower element leaking. The plumber came out and removed the element, cleaned everything and put it back together with Teflon sealer. I notified Rheem, but no one ever returned my call. Yesterday, 11-27-17 I noticed water in the containment pan. I pulled the lower cover and found the lower element leaking again. I tried to reach Rheem customer service with no luck! I strongly recommend avoiding Rheem Manufacturing water heaters. Looking around on the internet, I am not the only one who feels this way. What a terrible company.

After talking with the company who said they could send out service, but it could take about 1 week. Well with all the stuff going on in the world and me being a healthcare worker I need hot water. The guy takes off the black box at the top and lo and behold one of the three wires is not connected. Its a manufacturer defect and still will take about one week. So, the guy rigs it so we have hot water. I called 2 business days later because no one called me to set up service to find out that the call was disconnected and he never put it in. He had all my information already. Of course they had an excuse. I will never purchase another water heater from this company again. I found the part at an appliance part house for $44 and hired a company to pick it up and bring to my store for $112, then called the company that sold and installed the heater (United Plumbing - Woodland Hills, CA) and they sent out a tech and it took about 30 minutes and I was charged an additional $475. I called Rheem and was told to read the fine print. They would only cover the whole unit if it had to be replaced and if it could be repaired like my unit did, it would not be covered.

I bought this Rheem from Penco instead of Home Depot. Now I do love Home Depot and their customer services is splendid. Pencos Rheem was installed and did not leak at all, no leaks, we are finally taking baths. So HD has a cheaper version and its also less quality. Why cheaper if it leaks? Give me Penco. They dont make water heaters like they used to, thats for sure. I bought a house a few years ago with a Sears water heater in it from 1977. It lasted until 2009. I had a new Rheem water heater put in March 2014. It failed May 2021, right after the 6 year warranty. The heater element rusted right through the tank, and this is a water heater that was connected to a water softener, so no hard water going through it at all.Waste of money and it looks like I am not alone. Rheem needs to go back to see what Sears was doing. Same with all these companies that supply water heaters to Lowes and Home Depot. A water heater should not be a disposable item. They should last 20 years, just like they did years ago. And for us consumers, we need to wake the hell up to the way companies like Rheem operate. Sure, Sears didnt keep up with the times, and Amazon is killing places like Sears. BUT, that doesnt mean that we should all be a bunch of suckers, getting water heaters replaced every decade. The 1st one lasted under 4 years but because Rheem only offers a 4 year warranty from date of manufacture not install we had to fork out $15,000 to have another heater installed Dec 2016. Going with the same model allowed for quick replacement which when your business is closed because of lack of hot water fast is best. Now 14 months later our heater that cost more than a small car is leaking. Rheem comment although they have agreed to replace the heater not sure yet if they are paying the $2000 install fee was that they very seldom have what they call a leaker. When I told them to look up the serial number of the one the new leaker replaced the agent claimed we are not having much luck with their heaters, we would send it back and put in a John Wood but Rheem wont give us a refund.
