I have been installing Bradford White water heaters for over 18 years. They’re by far the best tank type water heater for your money. I’ve also installed all the other top brands like reem and AO Smith. They’re decent as well but Bradford’s in my opinion are the best. Most Bradford whites that I replace are near 20 years old and being replaced as a cautionary reason rather than leaking. I’m no Bradford rep but I see some negative reviews and felt I needed to speak up on their exceptionally higher quality product. As far as someone saying “their pilot kept going out”. That’s most likely and air flow issue or condition of the surroundings. Because I’ve had AO Smith and reems do that same thing from lack of combustible air. Keep in mind your newer heater has more safety features that may require more air flow than your older, not as safe heater. That’s why “you’ve never had that problem with the old heater”. Take it from a pro. Bradford is the best tank type water heater on the market.J of Hainesport, NJ

I have be renting my Rheem PV 50-Gal water heater from Direct Energy for 13 years. My last bill still paying $25.99 plus tax or a total of $29.37 a month. I decided to buy and install a new GSW B5531 PV 50-Gal from Lowe's. They (Peter and Jeff) installed the new water heater within one week. The new water heater has more insulation, more quiet, more energy save, more easier to manage. The money I paid will be break even within 3 years. I also bough the protect plan to extend the warranty to 6 years of labor and 6 years of parts for only $19.97 plus tax, this will give me a break for the next 6 years. I have been the last one in the shower the past 14 years. Needless to say my 50 gallon unit was just too small for me not to freeze. So when my old heater started seeping I started shopping. To my discovery HD and L**wes no longer carry simple 80 gallon heaters. The big box stores want to sell you a hybrid, so I was looking at a 80 gallon hybrid for 1800 bucks and a potential jackpot once the heat exchanger failed. Something made me look at Amazon and I found this beauty. Ordering was simple and the delivery date and time was selected. The truck pulled up at 0915 and the guys rolled it into my garage in its crate. This thing a monster, just about 6 feet tall and fatter than my old unit. My water connections come out of the wall, so be prepared to raise them up at least 12-18 inches. Other than that it was a simple install. I spent about 2 hours start to finish. Yes, you will need a work platform or ladder to reach the top for your connections. The initial heating took about 3 hours for the first shower but 12 hours to temperature stabilize. We also noticed that the flow rate seems to be faster as our farthest shower now seems to heat up faster. I don't know how this will effect my electric bill (I think it will be a wash), but its so nice not to have to schedule my shower for an empty house.Kathleen

I bought a Bradford White Defender water heater earlier this week to replace another Bradford White unit that was in the house when we bought the house several years ago. The age on the original unit was 15 years and for the 7 years we owned the house we didn't have any issues. The only time we thought of it was when we'd go on vacation and needed to turn it down. We made updates to the kitchen and added a bathroom so needed more hot water which led to buying a bigger water heater.Julian of Wayne, PA

So far so good. Lowes subcontractors installed the unit for a reasonable price. I purchased the mixing valve, which for some reason Reliance never installed 5 years ago. This unit looks almost identical to the GSW that I was renting from Reliance. I also purchased Lowes' extended warranty for a measly 25$, which will cover parts and labor for 6 years. The purchase should pay for itself in 4 years. As such, I don't understand why anyone would rent this unit for 26$-month from Reliance or any other rental outfit....it just doesn't make any financial sense to rent if you have no plans to move soon.Anonymous
