I have three 20i, 4 ton, dual fuel heat pumps on my home. The house is 5 years old. All three of these units have had major failures during the 5 year period. Failures include a heat exchangers, two leaking condensers, failed blower motor, failed gas valve, multiple failed circuit boards, failed thermostat, and a total air handler failure which resulted in the entire unit having to be replaced. Two of the failures resulted in the units being down for over a month before parts could be obtained. I have had multiple homes with many different brands of HVAC units. This is my first experience with Trane, and it will be my last. My house was custom built and is toured by many people for construction ideas. When asked if I would change anything, the only thing I advise people to do is stay from Trane HVAC units. When the warranty is up on these three units, I will very likely replace them all with another brand. It's obviously "Hard To START A Trane".

3-year-old 5-ton HVAC system in new home. Core had to be replaced in just 2 years. A/C is out again in only a few months. Poorly constructed cores and Rheem is VERY aware of this problem. The replacement core that Rheem uses DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. You have been warned.

In 2006, I paid $1,300 for above fridge and bought extended warranty. Within a year, I had four service calls for condensation in bins that causes freezing of lunchmeat, veggies, etc. and anything put in them. The A&E service company said to use plastic bags and then said I should keep the bin drawers open at an inch so air could flow. Next call said vacuuming underneath would solve it. Final call said again to use bags and suggested modifying the fridge by making a hole in the sidewall (which would nullify the warranty).Since I declined modifying the fridge, he contacted Whirlpool saying I declined service. I still have this problem, was going to call for service because I could really use the space the drawer provides but I have a feeling I will just be throwing money away. I was going to contact Whirlpool but I've done that too. I feel totally ripped off on an item that should have quite a few years of service left.

When considering the HVAC system for my home in the future, I know now, you get what you pay for. I was recommended to go with a Goodman because the price was so much less than other big name companies. I have a RUUD in my home. VERY HAPPY.

I built my home and had a Carrier heating and air system installed less than 5 years ago. I believed Carrier to be one of the best so it was worth the extra money. I was wrong. In the last 4 and a half years, I have had 9, yes 9, service calls on my system. I have had fans out of balance (one was so bad it would rattle the dishes on the countertop in the kitchen). The main unit's compressor locked up and had to be replaced. The main thermostat went out and had to be replaced. There's a freon leak in the upstairs unit and freon has had to be added to both units 4 times. It leaked water condensation in the attic, and now I go to turn it on over the weekend and the downstairs unit blows warm air. It won't cool. It has cost me over $1,300 out of pocket for the things not covered under warranty. Some labor was not covered, some service calls were not covered and, who knew I'd have to pay shipping to get replacement parts shipped to me and then pay shipping to have the faulty parts shipped back to Carrier??? What a ** way to do business. The installer, Love Heating and Air in Monroe, NC is worthless and horrible to deal with and now I'm getting the runaround with Carrier Corp. I'm done with Carrier and wish they would come and rip this crap out of my home. I'll buy the Trane instead or a box fan. At least, the box fan would work.
