At Sharp Electronics of Canada Ltd, a direct subsidiary of Osaka-based Sharp Corporation - a company known worldwide for its unique one-of-a-kind electronic products and solutions, their challenge is to create a balance between work time and personal time, with products that can benefit people's lives at work, at home, and everywhere in between.

This microwave stopped working when it was 1 year and 2 months old. While the drawer still worked (a common complaint) the unit would no longer heat food. I followed the instructions and called Sharp for an authorized servicer. Long story short, no one within a two-hour drive would service my appliance, whether in warranty or out. Sharps customer help line was useless - and their annoying people just kept reading from their scripts and passing me to yet another person that would read me service provider lists several hundred miles away. I was on the phone with them for well over an hour.I also called the place I bought the unit from (Appliance Factory Outlet) - they do not service anything, but dump the service on another company. That company (Brand Source) would not work on the microwave, citing inability to get parts reliably. I also talked to one other service professional that I found locally, and he would not work on the unit, citing how difficult it was to work with Sharp and that the pay for warranty work did not cover his costs. Note: the magnetron was still under warranty, even though the rest of the parts were not, so I had to get someone to confirm if the problem was in or out of warranty. If you are foolish enough to buy one of these units, make sure that you buy it from a company that SERVICES THEIR OWN APPLIANCE SALES. The other option is to pay the extra money for an extended warranty - then the insurance company has to deal with the problem.
I love this microwave. It is a digital microwave. I have had this microwave for over 10 years. It is still going strong. It gets a lot of use daily. Also, it is a larger size.
Sharp microwave R-451ZS - Microwave turned on by itself and overheated and was smoking.
I purchased the Sharp KB-6524PS microwave drawer for my new kitchen remodel at the latter part of 2009. I purchased this unit thinking I was buying a top quality appliance to go with my top of the line new kitchen. This unit is over $1000 and 5 years later it doesnt work after normal household use. I contacted Sharp and their response was that it is out of warranty and there is nothing they can do. The truth was that I was hoping that they would stand by their product but was disappointed. This is not my first microwave that I have owned but it is the first to stop working after 5 years. To conclude I will never purchase a Sharp product or recommend this product to anyone as I now have to repair this unit at my own expense but may just throw it out and purchase a better product!
I have had this Sharp microwave for 2 years. I bought it at Best Buy for $100. Its stainless steel and very nice looking. Just about a month ago it started shutting off by itself way before the time was up. The plastic on the buttons is wearing off also. Not what expected from Sharp. I have a feeling I will need to buy a new microwave soon. The one I had previously is about 20 years old and still working great at my Dads house.
I have to say that I am deeply disappointed with the level of service on Sharps behalf. Sharp is dedicated to improving peoples lives through the use of advanced technology and a commitment to innovation, quality, value, and design yet my microwave keeps blowing up! I purchased your $1000.00 EXTENSIVE QUALITY CONTROLLED product approx. 2 years ago and have been using it less than 2 years. The unit exploded while warming a baby bottle back in Dec 2014. The EXTENSIVE QUALITY CONTROLLED product SPARKED, SIZZLED, SMOKED and eventually died while my young children were waiting for their milk. At that point, I opened a claim with Sharp and YOUR CLAIMS DEPARTMENT DEEMED IT A SAFETY ISSUE and a technician was sent out to my home to replace the faulty board. LESS THAN A YEAR later, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, but they are now declining responsibility that the product clearly is defective. The technician that came to my home, told me that it was the SAME PART THAT HAD AGAIN FAILED. Does my house have to burn down because of a possible fire? I spent a lot of money on this unit, because I thought I was buying a quality product and it has caused nothing but problems since day one. I have had to go out and purchase another microwave in the meantime while I have waited patiently for Sharp to review my case. I am extremely disgusted that you wont honor this faulty, unsafe unit.I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A SHARP PRODUCT AGAIN! Your organization ought to be ashamed of themselves charging $1000.00 for a piece of junk that has faulty parts. Sharp is dedicated to improving peoples lives should not be your slogan. It has greatly inconvenienced me and my family 2x in less than 1 year!
Sharp microwave under counter - model # KB6524PS - We have had the worst experience with this product, the manufacturer and their representative. While our Sharp is technically 4 years old, the house we bought was brand new and sat for three years.. We purchased the house and have only used the product for the last year. The drawer mechanism that automatically opens and closes the door is not operating. We called Sharp and they sent their representative to review and problem. This service/review visit cost us $149. We were told the part Sharp had given the rep was either not the right part or the wrong part. The drawer still didnt work. The rep discussed this with Sharp and they sent him another part. He came back out to fix the microwave but once again, the part was not the right part as it didnt fix the problem. We were told to call Sharp as they might give us credit towards another microwave or do something. Evidently there are 5 different parts that could or might fix the problem but Sharp is not willing to send all the parts to the Rep so he can make one visit and fix the problem. The second visit/service call cost $159 and as mentioned, didnt fix the problem. We called Sharp and tried to reason with them to make this one last service call as we have paid over $300 and still no resolution. Sharps idea is to keep feeding their Rep with parts one at a time to see what works. If we kept doing that it would potentially cost us another $450.This entire process is flawed and totally not above board. We have to use their representative which makes you think this is not necessarily above board... We have decided to keep the microwave and use it broken even though there is potential for us to burn ourselves. We simply cant afford to keep paying $150 each visit and have the product still not work.
I purchased a new Sharp microwave last year and it had been fine. Sometimes it seemed like it was overheating but I dismissed it thinking maybe it was normal for such a large microwave. Yesterday I put a bag of popcorn in on the popcorn setting and walked away. I started smelling smoke and went back to see what was wrong. The microwave was on fire on the inside and literally melted part of the plate that goes on the bottom of the microwave. Im very glad that it wasnt worse than that but that very easily could have been my home burning down because of this. While looking on here at other reviews I see several other people have had similar experiences with their products. Something should seriously be done before something worse happens to someone. I will definitely not be buying another Sharp product.
Appreciate that touch controls are still working great and no glitches like Ive experienced with other microwaves in the past. Like the reheat, defrost and melt and specified item controls for convenience when Im not sure of cooking times.
GE PROFILE SPACEMAKER XL SENSOR. We have had one problem with the handle cracking but was replaced by GE. Have been using for 12 years on a regular basis. Great microwave. Also easy to clean.
Sharp R409CK manufactured June 1999. No issues with this unit. It heats at over 1000 watts and does everything you would expect a microwave to do. Not much more I can say when something works and is reliable. Thats about all you need to know.
We purchased the Sharp drawer microwave MODEL SMD2470AS on 5/30/15 and installed in our kitchen remodel in our home on the Cape in July 2015. (Installation was delayed due to late delivery of the new cabinets.) We used the product the rest of the 2015 summer season and sporadically thru November 2015. We began sporadic usage again in the Spring (April 2016) and then resumed normal usage the end of June 2016. On July 5th, 2016 the microwave died - the drawer wouldnt shut. We had trouble with drawer opening and closing the week before. We called the Sharp customer service number and told to unplug and then plug in again - that did nothing. The representative then provided a business name in Hyannis for us to contact for repair at our expense. This product cost us $1079 plus tax and worked ONLY for the equivalent of 4 to 6 month normal usage. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS.
I threw some popcorn in tonight for a movie. Went out on the porch for like 30 seconds. Came back in and i smelled smoke and the microwave was completely without power. After waiting for the smoke to clear, I opened the door to see the wave control door (or whatever that little door on the right is called) had completely burnt all the way to the top of the unit. The microwave was maybe a year old. I will not be buying Sharp ever again!
I have had the built in SHARP microwave model SMD2470AS for 11 months and use it occasionally. Tonight my husband was melting butter for his popcorn in a glass bowl and the microwave started spewing out white smoke that smelled of an electrical fire. We thought the house was going to catch on fire! So scary! He turned off the breaker and kept an eye on it until it finally stopped smoking. This is a very expensive unit and this should not be happening! Unfortunately I’m assuming the one year warranty is probably over since this was a model home we bought and it was installed prior to our purchase of the home. (Even though it was never used until we bought the home.) I’ll be calling tomorrow.
It is a microwave - the Sharp is nothing special, it came with the house. We find it has hot and cold spots. Appreciate the 30 seconds additional button.
Purchased a Sharp Convection microwave online from ABT. The microwave stopped working after 15 days. Returned the microwave and received the replacement unit. After I installed the replacement unit, the door would not stay shut or lock. Boxed the microwave up for return. Time to shop for a better quality brand.
This is the best microwave Ive owned to date. All the auto controls function as they should as described in the instruction booklet. Very easy to operate, low noise. Carousel is easy to clean. Just the right size and looks good, fits on the kitchen counter under the cabinets. Didnt overpower the electrical system as I can use the coffee maker and toaster all at the same time.
SHARP Carousel Microwave Oven 1200 watt Model R520KST - As long as it was working, it was great! We purchased this unit about 3 years ago. This week it began turning itself off short of the time programmed in. Our usage is light, e.g., to heat a cup of water for tea. I expected it to function longer. My ideal microwave would simplify the control panel and focus the design effort on reliability. We never used all the complicated features (defrost, reheat, bake, and keep warm for specific meats, vegetables and beverages). But I would like the unit to last longer than 3 years.
Microwave starts on its own and doesn’t shut off. Manufacturers was contacted about the defect and offered $40 off to buy another fire hazard instead of replacing the microwave. DONT WASTE YOUR SAFETY.
Several times the microwave comes on by itself when you open the door. This is very dangerous and a fire hazard. I called customer service. They did absolutely nothing. I have 4 other witnesses. Sharp needs to be sued big time.
I received a Sharp Carousel microwave for Christmas 2017, its now August 2018 and the microwave is broke. It started to spark electricity no matter what was in it. I contacted the company about the issue and said the warranty had ran out and I needed to pay for a new unit. I am completely unsatisfied with the way the company handled the matter and will NEVER buy or recommend their products to anyone ever.
Model No. : R-551ZS. It has instant start 1-6 and 30 sec when the start button is pressed, which are great features. Also the sensor reheat (SR) button works great. When we first purchased it I burnt some popcorn because I pushed the wrong button and the bag caught on fire. We had to unplug and take the microwave outside to cool down and it has worked perfectly even after that catastrophe. The coffee reheat button is 1min 10 secs which I wish was 1min 20 secs. Overall it is a great microwave oven. Purchased at Walmart and not overpriced. I would recommend this oven.
Health hazard: I have a Sharp R320B microwave that went bonkers. It was running on a 2-step cooking setting (meaning, 2 timed cooking at different power levels). On the last sequence, the microwave stopped for a few seconds/minutes then continued in cycles. Then it stopped. When I opened the door, the microwave turned on. I quickly closed the door and tested other settings (such as running at set minutes on full power). Same problem of gremlin microwave turning on with the door open, about which the Sharps own manual warns that it exposes the user to harmful energy. Also, I unplugged microwave for a while on thought it might reset the microwave. After plugging it back into the outlet, I opened the door to test again and the microwave immediately turned on with the door open. This is an old microwave, and Ive been planning on replacing the microwave anyway. But as an FYI to others and for file on record, I submitted this warning. Other than the exposure of microwave radiation from the malfunction, I did love the programming features which mostly were convenient and actually used by me.
Sharp R-270SLM - I purchased my new sharp microwave less than a year ago and I thought at £50, for a sharp reputable brand and its quality was a bargain. So I purchased one thinking this would be a worthwhile investment. In the first few uses, I noticed that steam would not come from the air vent but would buildup in the compartment inside whilst I was cooking. Then four months after the purchase, I noticed what looked like a brown mark on the outer rim where the door closes too. Then, brown marks started to appear under the turntable and at the rear corners of the microwave. I have now contacted the customer services to see what they are willing to do...
I just got off the phone again with Sharp Customer Service concerning the third microwave I purchased of this same model that has become defective in less than 14 months - the first two happened in under a year and the third (which was a replacement that I had to pay a pro-rated amount for) quit working in 14 months. The first two had serious problems with water building up in the microwave and on the window, and then the inside base paint began to bubble, wear off and the metal rusted. I started with a purchase of two and gave one to my daughter. The one I gave to her quit working in about 8 months, but because my husband had just passed away she didnt want to burden me with another problem so I didnt find out until I had the problems with mine three months later. Both of these units also seem to have heating problems - food did not cook as quickly as it should. My daughter had already discarded her microwave so I couldnt return it for a replacement, but I did contact them about mine and it took three months to get a resolution of sorts. I couldnt find my receipt because of the confusion of a fast necessary move to another home, so they told me that I would have to pay $75.00 to get a replacement, after I had to take it to a repair shop, wait for it to be evaluated, and then possibly get a new one. I paid the money and had to go to the repair shop to pick up the replacement - that was in May of 2012. The new microwave seemed fine - no excess water problems and heating seemed acceptable. However on 7-21-13 the unit just quit working right in the middle of heating some food. The clock and timer work, but the unit will not heat or turn - nothing - not even any sound. I contacted Sharp and even though it had been 14 months I felt that I was justified in asking for another replacement microwave, and not the same model number because of the consistent problems I had experienced with the prior three. Their response was a definitive no because I was REQUIRED to sign a letter releasing them of responsibility in order to get the unit they sent to me as the replacement for the second defective one. I am going to write a letter to the corporate office to try to get some resolution to this problem, but based on the conversations I had with the customer service representatives I dont expect the corporate head of customer relations to care either. I will write the follow-up on this site after I receive their response.
I bought this microwave in October 2013. The reason I bought Sharp was because I thought they were made in America. In October 2014 the microwave began to dysfunction, it would not shut off when I used it. I am in contact with Sharp now, and I will keep this site updated on my efforts at getting either a certificate for a new microwave or an exchange for a different model.
I purchased a Sharp countertop microwave model smc1131cw, serial #d770610433 from Best Buy. I took it home and checked out the keypad to make sure everything was operational. Everything worked except the power level button. So I returned it to Best Buy and they ordered another one. I waited another 4 days for the second one. This time I set it up in the store to make sure everything was working. Same thing, the power level button didnt work. I called Sharp customer service to find out if it was the machine or me that was doing something wrong. Wouldnt you know I got some guy in some foreign country with a heavy accent. It came down to him not being able to help me. He ask me if the store could pull another microwave from the stockroom and check it. So I had to get a manager to approve this and when they went to get it the guy on the phone says I cant stay on the phone any longer. That set me off and I told him so and hung up. The guy at Best Buy then comes back with another Sharp and we checked it out and that one had the same problem with the power level button not working. That was 3 Sharp microwaves that were the same model that didnt work. Is there any quality control at the manufacturer? Oh thats right, theyre made in CHINA!!!! Dont waste your time with Sharp.
I just sent my little Sharp microwave with turntable off to grad school with my daughter who is younger than the microwave and she is 24! It has worked like a charm for decades now without one problem. I purchased a larger microwave...a Kenmore...and that one stopped working 13 months after it was purchased. I am now looking for a microwave for my son and I am buying a Sharp!
SHARP CAROUSEL MICROWAVE MODEL R-551ZM. 20 yrs ago I bought a Sharp microwave and it lasted 20 years. The new one I bought in 2016 lasted less than a year. It just stopped working. Then I had to deal with the unhelpful, obnoxious Filipino calling center. Their job is to keep you on the line as long as possible without answering your inquiry and while asking you a million questions and making you respell everything 10 times and saying as many bizarre things to that make no sense as possible. Needless to say the time I will waste is worth more than the time they will keep me on the phone while doing nothing. I will never buy another Sharp product of any kind not even a thermometer. The products produced by them are trash and Filipino calling centers are designed as a form of torture. They are abusive.
I’ve had my microwave for 7 months and the bottom is rusting and paint flaking. Is there somebody I can contact to maybe get a new one. I don’t understand because as soon as something would spill I would make sure it was cleaned up and I’m the only person in the house to use it.
Ive had this microwave (R309Y) less than 2 yrs. I keep it clean and it is out in the open not in an enclosed area. I just went to cook 1/2 of a squash for 8 min and the microwave and the cord got really HOT. I had to use potholders to get the Corelle plate out of the microwave. I have noticed that even cooking 2 baked potatoes for 5 min got the microwave hot also. Needless to say, it is now in the trash marked as a fire hazard and has had the cord cut right off. I dont want anyone else to use it!
I purchase this Sharp carousel microwave in 2019, yesterday popping popcorn, it have been making noise and sparks before but it stopped, I ignored it because it did not do it all the time. Yesterday popping popcorn there sparks, smoke, then fire in microwave. I am glad I was still in kitchen when it happened. Was it a recall on this model SMC1131C.
I purchased the Sharp Carousel microwave SMC0912BS about 2 years ago. For the past month it will randomly turn on and off. Ive tried to unplug it and plug it back in and all it will do is turn on and off again and wont allow us to use any of the buttons until it has stopped freaking out.
It works very well and has never broken down on us. The power of this microwave is definitely sufficient for everyday use. We would 100% replace this one with the same model. We have had two of these models now and are very satisfied.
Sharp R-451ZS microwave - When I first got it the carousel made a squeaking sound that would come and go and still does but about 11 months later, 3 weeks before the warranty was set to expire I discovered it sparking when it was cooking and there was smoke. I unplugged it and opened the window. The magnetron is blackened and is a spot on the metal place that covers it. I dont trust Sharp at all even if I can get it fixed. Now I have the inconvenience of lugging it with a taxi to a repair center.
This thing has been a workhorse for almost 10 years. I have family members who had newer microwaves that went belly-up while this one keeps on heating, defrosting and looking stylish while doing it. And its big enough for a 10* turkey.
I purchased the Sharp microwave on June 26, 2018. Many times the glass cooking tray did not remain on the coupler when it was cooking and especially when removing items from the microwave. Several times I have experienced the microwave cooking for five (5) minutes and it just shut off ? powered off. Then I had to wait about ten (10) minutes before it powered on again. When it powered on again the microwave was not in the cook mode. The microwave had to be reprogrammed. What can I do about these problems.Sharps Response: “I understand that the turntable tray will not stay on the coupler in your SHARP SMC1132CS microwave and the unit also shuts down. I do apologize for the inconvenience and I will be happy to advise. Where is the unit located e.g. on the counter, in a trim kit? Is the unit properly ventilated with at least 4 of space around the unit? Have you tried unplugging the microwave for approximately 30 seconds and then re-plug to see if the issue remains?”My Response: “The microwave is on the counter. It is not enclosed in a trim kit. The microwave is properly ventilated. Yes we have unplugged the microwave and moved it on the counter to a different outlet. The problem continued to exist. We have used the first outlet for another appliance and we have not had any problems with that appliance working properly. We checked with an electrician and the power sources in the kitchen are very adequate to accommodate the microwave. What is the next step to correct this problem?”Sharps Response: “Thank you for responding with that information. In order to move forward with your case, we ask that you send a video of the unit shutting down to firstname.lastname@example.org, and attach your case number in the subject line. The video should be approximately 10mb in size. After we have received your video, your case will be sent to the relevant department and you will be contacted within one (1) business day.” My Response: “I cannot imagine that you would expect someone to try to make a video of the unknown. We do not know when the microwave is going to shut down, if so we would not use it at that time. This is the first Sharp product we have purchased and it will be the last. We will discontinue using the microwave and purchase a brand that is more severable and reliable. This microwave has been such a headache. We will not donate it to any organization. We will put it where it should be-in the trash.”
Built a brand new house and installed a Sharp Drawer Microwave. The microwave started burning, no flames, just smoke and really bad smell. Discovered that under the drawer, there was metal that was burning! We were in the house approximately 5 months when this occurred! It took them 2+ months to finally replace the microwave! Now, approximately 2 months later the replaced microwave started smoking and smelling. Definitely, a serious problem with these things! They want to do nothing to help you. Now they are sending someone out to look at it and it will be another 2+ months before they get back to me! Certainly, a disgrace of a company! They keep telling me that Im the only one that has ever had this problem??? With two of their microwaves? I should play the lottery!!!
I bought an R-551ZS on Nov. 30, 2016, after ice storm power surge killed old reliable Sharp purchased ca. 1990. That unit would stop, with no display, with the back upper right corner very hot to the touch, and not resume until cooled for 5 mins or so. Sharp sent an identical replacement. It did the very same thing on first use on July 4, 2016. Sharp then sent an R-651ZS, which had worked fine since received about 10 days later, until this evening. I microwaved a cup of coffee for 40 seconds and on opening the door at end of cycle, the display went to 0 instead of the time of day and the internal light was brightening and dimming, while a sizzling sound emanated from inside the back of the unit where there are vent openings near the power cord, where I would assume can be found the electronics and power supply. The sizzling sound stopped the second I unplugged the unit. As an experiment, I plugged it back in and there was no sizzling sound, the internal light was steady, and I was able to reset the clock. However, I will NOT risk a fire in my home with a disabled sister who might not make it out in time, so I will not be using the unit. I e-mailed the last customer service contact from the last episode within 5 minutes of the event, today, Saturday. I dont expect a reply until the next business day. The reps were very responsive on the earlier two incidents, but at this point I will never buy another product with the Sharp brand name on it. Three defective units in such a short time suggests to me that their quality control is ineffective and perhaps their engineering design department or theyre getting defective electronic components from their suppliers. This is really a shame as the product I bought ca. 1990 was a trooper without a single issue. It was that reliability that induced me to buy that first replacement Sharp unit on Nov. 30, 2015. I havent looked, but Im guessing that the 1990 unit was likely U.S.-made and these later units Chinese. There have been many documented cases of Chinese electronics suppliers delivering counterfeit capacitors and such. Im thinking Sharp may be a victim, in a sense, of similar supply issues, but when it comes right down to it, Sharp is responsible for their own quality control not just in their own manufacturing process but for the parts they buy from vendors that go into their products. And you can bet that if their product results in a fire, I will hire the world-class attorney (used to be Richard Nixons guy), who lives just up the road from me, to recover costs of any home repairs. Not that I would let it get to that. The thing wont be used again and Ill be researching other makes for its replacement (not to include Whirlpool, with their record of recent fires in THEIR units!). It seems ridiculous to think you cannot go into a store and buy a piece of mature technology and have it actually work, SAFELY, in this day and age. These companies building to a low price point have got to realize there is a threshold below which they should not go and which the consumer will not either when pennies saved here or there result in products that are unsafe and potentially deadly. No matter the future response to todays issue, I will have no faith in Sharp to deliver a reliable or safe product. And I dont even much care about a refund. The safety of my home is worth more than what Ill spend to replace this unit tomorrow.
The inside of microwave model 330Y(S) is completely rusted out, the reviews from everyone else suggests to me there is a defect with this model, on contacting Sharp they said there is nothing they will do about it, telling me if its not cleaned it will rust, I stated I look after my white goods with care!!! He also stated if you live near the beach the microwave is more likely to rust!? What the? I wont be buying Sharp products again and I will never buy LG either! I spent over $2000 on a fridge, had to be repaired in the warranty time, the metal has a defect, LG wont do anything! Can someone please tell me what is a good brand of microwave to buy which will last! Not happy.
Purchased a carousel microwave that had a defective hole in the top. I immediately sent pictures asking for a replacement, and after NUMEROUS phone calls that dragged into weeks, I was told they can no longer find an identical one to replace mine, even though I had just purchased it! They gave me no other resolution and no one contacted me again. I gave up trying to contact them because I was just passed from 1 person to the next. Very unhappy with the entire experience. I paid $300 for a microwave with a hole. I sure hope theres nothing dangerous coming out of that hole.
The microwave has a defrost cycle and reset button. It is 1000 watts and it was given to me. I use the defrost button often and it works well. It is easy to clean inside and the carousel is easy to take out and clean. The size is appropriate for a dinner plate yet tall enough for a large coffee cup.
Sharp Microwave Drawer model KB6524PS - We had this microwave installed August 20, 2014, cost $824. In December, the bottom of the drawer which is just glass, started to crack and a piece fell out onto the floor. Called Sharp and they said this was our fault and will not cover the repair. I have the appliance store where I purchased it looking into this since I purchased all new appliances there in August. With glass on the bottom of the drawer, it would be very easy to drop something into the drawer and the glass would have shattered. What a poor construction job!
I have a small apartment size microwave. The power is less than 1000 but it suits my purpose. Sometimes you have to increase the time in order to get the result you want. Overall its very reliable.
We bought this microwave (Model Number SMC1840CS) July last year at a Walmart. We usually dont buy appliances from Walmart but we just moved to the area and it was the closest store. A couple times over the year it would make a funny noise while microwaving. Then this morning, I went to heat something up, and it was making a very loud buzzing noise. The item did not heat up. I tried 3 more times unplugging and plugging back in and nothing. No heat, just a loud buzzing noise. I need to go out today and buy a new microwave now since I use it often. I will not be buying a Sharp, that is certain!
The microwave ceiling peels and this microwave is only 5 years old and not used on a daily basis. The microwave ceiling peels and it is less than 5 years old.
Very satisfied with this microwave. It is getting pretty old now, but it has been working just fine for years. I would replace it with the same brand.
July 10, 2014, I bought a Sharp Microwave to replace a GE Microwave that burned out after 12 years of use. I am kicking myself for not purchasing another GE. April 5, the microwave makes a loud buzzing noise and starts to spark on the inside. I pull the plug, just as the inside wall of the microwave is melting and ready to catch fire. There was some smoke, but I caught it right away since I was standing next to the unit and had vented all the smoke out very quickly with no other damage. I call Customer Service April 6 where they ask I email photos and state that they will send a replacement unit same day. I call back to make sure they received the photos and the story changes. Now they want a safety inspector to call because of the fire hazard. I dont get a replacement until I get that call. I have to wait 3 days for my turn which makes me wonder how many fire hazards they have to deal with?April 9, I call again because I didnt hear from the safety inspector. The story changes a third time. Now they claim the inspector closed the file based on the photos and a new unit would be mailed April 9 and that I should have it by Monday, April 13. Here we are April 15, I call to see where is the replacement. The story changes again... They did not send the replacement when they said they would on April 9 because they needed me to write a letter of demand to get the replacement. So I write a formal letter and email it off, but not before calling corporate and complaining to the person in charge of Reverse Logistics on their voice mail about the stories that keep changing. Lets note that no one from Mahwah called back. Go figure.I do get a call from the original claim rep who changes the story again. The document I need to sign is a hold harmless agreement indicating they will send a replacement unit and that I am not going to seek any further restitution or damages from Sharp. No problem, I sign the document and email it back asking for a shipping number. I then get a call from someone who sounded like they spoke with a mouth full of food asking for a credit card number. I had to get them to repeat 3 or 4 times to understand what they were asking. I am baffled by the request because I am not purchasing a new unit. They are replacing it under warranty. Then she said they werent charging anything. If youre not charging anything why do you want my card#? She would not provide any explanation. I asked for something in writing because is sounded like a hoax. The letter indicates they want me to buy a new unit direct form them and they will credit the cost when they get the old one back. NONSENSE... Like I am really going to trust them not to change their story again? If I buy a new unit, it will not be a SHARP! If Sharp ultimately wanted a credit card for any reason, why didnt they say that at the first, second, third, or even fourth point of contact? Why is it the story on how to get the warranty replacement changing with every call? I will probably buy a new microwave that is NOT a Sharp just to be done with this nonsense.
This is my second Sharp microwave. First one lasted 8 years. Was happy with the first one, and sad that it stopped working when it did, but definitely went and purchased another one as close to it as possible - also Sharp.
I havent had problems with safety or power but do have some issues with the poor design of my Sharp Carousel Model R-651ZM: 1) Condensation and small food particles have made the inside of the door look dirty all the time. There is no way I can see to clean between the inside of the door glass and attached metal screen that prevents microwave leakage. Viewing the unit with the door closed, this microwave unit looks permanently dirty because the door has a space that is unreachable and covered with steam and tiny food particle deposits. I have never had this occur with other microwaves. 2) Like all newer microwaves, the key pad buttons one uses to input time and power settings is flat......but these buttons are harder to push than they should be. 3) The audible signal that tells you cooking is finished is Obnoxiously Loud......and there is no way to turn down the sound level. I wont be buying another Sharp microwave in the future!
Sharp Microwave Model R-309Y. I have owned this microwave for a month now. If I set the microwave for over eight minutes it shuts off completely after about six minutes. After sitting off for three minutes it resets itself. Then I can use it for a 2 minute period again before it shuts itself off again.
I bought this microwave back in Oct of 2017 and spent 1,200 and go to use it and started making a loud sound and did not work anymore. Now this happened on March 2 and I call P.C. Richards and talk to someone there to come look at it since I have a 5 yr warranty on it. They finally call me back on Monday which is fine and I talk to the manager. He told me he was recommending that we replace the microwave and that they would be in contact with me. So I get a call from P.C. service and they spoke with Sharp and that they were going to call me about sending a service guy. Service guy? I dont want it serviced I want a new one, its 3 months old? Spoke to this guy in the morning and still didn’t hear from this company. The reviews on this microwave are horrible and they need to fix the problem once and for all!!! I will never buy any products from this company ever again. This is my fault for not looking up the reviews on this piece of garbage that they sell. Soon I will walk into P.C. Richards place and drop it on their doorstep and call my lawyer, because they know that this is a problem and they like to play games. Done with Sharp!!!
Use the microwave to warm up foods and cook popcorn. It serves its purpose. Also heat water for coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Sometimes we defrost frozen items so we are able to cook it without waiting for it to thaw out.
My Sharp Microwave Drawer was provided by our builder in our brand new home. I had used the microwave and after three months the microwave made a popping sound, smelled like burnt rubber and emitted smoke. I called the company and was told that even though it was a new microwave, I had to provide proof by faxing my home settlement papers. After retrieving one of the papers from the lock box at the bank, I copied and sent it to Sharp. I received an e-mail back saying they will contact me in 7 to 10 days. After two weeks and my follow up, I received a call from a delivery service, not a repair person, who came and put my microwave in. I have no idea how safe this all is but know this is absolutely unacceptable.Sharp knows there is a serious problem with these microwaves and that the company did not correctly cover and paint the heating element properly during manufacturing. This is why the microwaves blow up. Sharp is hiding from product recall and liability by refusing to accept adequate responsibility for the companys manufacturing defect. Until Sharp is pressured by a government agency or other institutional board they will keep stuffing the problem and preventing any public notices for as long as they can. Or Sharp will be forced to accept liability because someone was seriously hurt or injured by their faulty product.
I had my microwave for 19 years. It was one of my wedding gift until today it stop working. I highly recommend Sharp microwaves. You have definitely have a long time loyal customer for life. I Thank you.
I purchased a drawer microwave from an appliance dealer 1 year ago. Within 6 months, the unit had an awful electrical burning smell with every use. I returned it to the dealer. I had bought an extended service. He called Sharp and fixed the unit like they told him. Something about the magnetron? Now only 4 months after the repair, it again has the awful smell with each use. The dealer and I both called Sharp Customer Service. We were both told, We will not be able to help you since you unit is now out of warranty. When I told them that the unit could be a fire risk, I was told, Well, do not use the unit then. I will never buy a Sharp microwave again!!! I told them that I would report this as a risk and encourage others not to buy this unit. No answer.
Sharp Microwave R-551ZM - I purchased this microwave from Sams Club in August. It worked fine until late December. A couple times you had to reopen the door after the timer went off or it would buzz. 3 nights ago, I woke because the dogs woke me up. I noticed the display was blank as I walked through the kitchen. I could feel the heat from the microwave before I even touched it. The whole microwave was to the touch. I unplugged it and moved it. The counter underneath was hot to the touch as well. I called customer service. They gave me a case number and said someone would be in contact with me within 24 hours. I called back after 24 hours. They said someone would call as well. No one has called and the last customer service rep was rude. Do not buy this microwave.
I had this $800 microwave for three weeks when it caught fire while not in use. I had been away for the weekend and had only returned home for a few hours when we heard a loud pop and lots of smoke started pouring out of the unit! Sharp scheduled an in-home service call, which ended up being a take the unit away call and left me without a microwave for weeks on end. They still havent decided if they are going to repair the disgusting smelling burned plastic unit or give me a new one. Stay way form this unit if you value the safety of your family!
This Sharp Carousel microwave was here when I bought my house 10 years ago. It has been great and I have not had any issues with it. I would definitely buy this brand again if I needed to replace it.
I bought a Sharp microwave and it started sparking after 1.5 years. It is not usable anymore and is very dangerous! Sharp will not replace the microwave because the warranty is only one year long. They do not stand behind their products? What should anyone else?!?!
One year and ten days after purchasing a new Sharp Microwave it malfunctioned. There was a burst inside then I found a small burned hole in the metal plate inside. Called Sharps customer service where I was treated as a very valuable customer. I did follow up every couple of days, because I have learned from other customers to do my due diligence. Each time they were extremely nice and gave updates on the stances of complaint. After 7-days, issue was resolved. Within 10-days, a new microwave was delivered to my doorstep. Shipping tags were supplied so I can send back the defective microwave, too. Very smooth transaction.A few years back, I purchased a LG refrigerator from Sears. It went defunct after couple years. Sears and LG did nothing for me! Insult upon injury, they did offer a 25 percent discount to purchase another fridge. Needless to say they lost a customer. Forever! I would indeed purchase another Sharp product after this delightful experience with Sharps customer service department. BTW. The last Sharp microwave I had was 13 years old. I sold it at a yard sale for 20.00. The only reason I replaced it was because I wanted a turntable and sensor heat.
Purchased first one for kitchen remodel. It worked for less than 2 years with light use, and consistently using the open and close buttons instead of manually opening and closing drawers. Drawer mechanism failed. Shaked violently then sparked and buzzed and eventually burned out. Called Sharp after reading of many other similar experiences. I am a very busy mom and business owner and am not interested in the numerous service calls, replacement parts, dissatisfaction that I discovered many others have had. I have no time. I dont want the aggravation or anger that will certainly come with it. So, I was willing to just purchase a new one and cut my losses and certain frustration. I was hoping Sharp had a customer retention program where they would offer a discount on a replacement. After 6 weeks of runaround and multiple phone calls (that were polite and non-confrontational) it was escalated to their Customer Response team. They eventually declined my request (after stringing me along for too long) and offered me several phone numbers of local repair shops. EXACTLY what I was trying to avoid, and could have done 6 weeks earlier and had a new microwave by now. During this time, I did some research and learn that the only other drawer microwaves are actually Sharp products with other manufacturers (GE, etc) nameplates and fronts on them (essentially). So no matter what drawer microwave I choose I am actually buying another Sharp product. No wonder they have no incentive to provide any customer credit whatsoever. So I contact Karls Appliance with whom I purchased my first one (as well as other appliances), and tell them the story of how I need to replace my $850 broken microwave. They at least did provide a reasonable discount towards a new one. Almost 3 weeks to the day, AND after purchasing an extended warranty this time (which ate up the difference in Karls discount, btw) the new microwave buzzes and grinds for a few seconds upon start. Doesnt happen with each use, but enough for me to have serious safety concerns, and regret that I designed my kitchen with a drawer microwave, because I seem to have no choice now but to continually replace with Sharp or Sharp derivative products. I just called Karls again to let them know, and am currently awaiting their reply and advice as to what to do next. WTF Sharp? I maintained my cool. I was polite. What I was asking for was beyond fair, even generous considering your products are worthless, faulty, dangerous, and overall low-quality goods and expensive to replace.I WILL NEVER, EVER BUY ANOTHER SHARP PRODUCT. EVER. Even if it means I have to replace the custom cabinet that was created to hold this microwave, I will do it. I have no confidence that this product will not burn my house down, or worse. Sharp, I got nothing from you. But I do have a voice and I know how to use it (I own a marketing company) and plan to re-post this on every single forum/customer satisfaction/complaint site I can find and urge others to do the same. I will follow up with links to other forums for other Sharp victims to use once I select the most credible avenues. Sharp, you had ample opportunity to do the right thing. If I can dissuade just one person (I fully suspect more) from purchasing your products, I will have my Karmic justice.
After the first year, the inside of my Sharp Carousel microwave started rusting and the paint flaking. Each use would cause flakes of paint to loosen and fall onto the food. Since I couldnt find out if the paint was lead based and since the kids werent always conscientious about covering their food, I had to retire the microwave from use. I eventually purchased another brand of microwave, but discovered how difficult it is to find out if the Chinese manufacturer is using lead based paint.
My Sharp microwave is good. It looks stylish (black and chrome) and it has good features like defrost and melting and soft. Only wish it was slightly bigger on the inside.
My son bought us this microwave about 7 years ago and haven't had any problems with it. We use it on a daily basis. It is perfect for all of our needs, reheating, warming up, making popcorn, and actually cooking in it.
I have owned this microwave for about 7 yrs. now & it is still going strong. It is making a noise now, but not all the time. All the controls work. I would buy the same kind next time I have to replace the one I have now.
We originally purchased this convection microwave in 2011 and just after the 5 year warranty the motherboard and microwave tube burned up. I found the same model at Home Depot and purchased on 4/9/16 (as we had the original installed into a cabinet and I didnt want to do any construction as I now take care of my paralyzed husband who had a massive stroke 2 years ago).Last evening the microwave started emitting a very unpleasant chemical odor, so I turned it off and began searching for the cause. The turntable motor shaft, turntable support and the bottom of the removable turntable were all burned. I suspect faulty components in the motor. I spent over 2 hours on the phone this morning with their service department (cant even call it customer service because there was no customer service) with 4 different people all telling me different things.I explained my fear with having this product repaired as I believe it is the motor and I cant chance a fire in my home as it might be impossible to get my paralyzed husband and myself to safety should it cause a fire. I asked for my money back as it has only been 4 months since it was purchased. They refused. Their supervisor also told me that you are never to cook food in the microwave covered. I asked them to review their own product booklet as page 7 stipulates food is to be covered. I sent them an email and asked that they might consider obtaining additional training to their supervisors on their companys products. Will never purchase another Sharp product and will use my night time hours researching various sites to post complaints on their products. Am also going to find out who the CEO and President are and send them detailed complaints with employee names.
The first microwave I purchased lasted 6 months and quit. Sharp sent me a replacement but it was broke. Sharp sent another replacement. The last replacement lasted 7 months and caught fire. After 11 days of communicating with Sharp, they want me to pay them $10 to send me another microwave, same model. Model # R-659Y. I am not interested in the same model that will break or catch fire. I will NEVER buy anything made by Sharp again.
Had this microwave almost one year to the date when it started to spark and had an internal fire. Called Sharp got a case number and was told to call back during the week (this occurred on a Sunday). Called back on Monday and they requested pictures of the interior as well as pictures of the label on the back and the original receipt (who keeps the receipt after one year???). Luckily, I was able to obtain it and provided the information they requested on Tuesday. I called again on Wednesday because I decided that I do not want a fire hazard in my house and I wanted my money back. I was told someone would call me back and they never did. Long story short, they denied my refund and they are replacing the product. However this is a FIRE HAZARD and should be avoided at all costs. DO NOT EVER PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT.
We have a Sharp drawer microwave -- the builder installed it. It is about 2.5 years old. We were making a small bag of popcorn, after 30 seconds, the microwave made a horrible grinding noise and started smoking. Smoke was coming out from the vents under the control panel where the wiring was located. I thought somehow I left the popcorn in too long... bag was still flat and unmarked. I took it out and turned it on again for a few seconds... lots of smoke and terrible noise. If I had not been there to stop the microwave likely our whole house would have been on fire. This product needs to recalled! So extremely dangerous.
I bought a microwave and the light blew after 5 months. I got a replacement, and the same thing happened within 6 months. It is a design fault. They are no longer using incandescent lights which would last years. Sharp are trying to reduce energy consumption with new electronic low energy circuit lights which have a short life span. I was advised in store that Sharp know about it and are trying to rectify. I asked if I could return the microwave given it was twice in 12 months, and Sharp have said NO. Another issue is the clock doesnt run properly. I thought my husband was accidentally pressing wrong buttons, but looking at other reviews, seems this also is a problem with clock not keeping correct time. The warranty is only 12 months, so be warned, if you buy this microwave, based on my experience, you may be visiting the service centre every 6 months, and having to pay for the replacement bulb after the the 12 month warranty runs out. Very disappointed in Sharp, having been an avid user for over 30 years. Customer Care response was a definite no. You cant return. Go to service center - and it will take 2-4 weeks to repair. Not a satisfactory solution given it has happened twice now in 12 months.
We just purchased this microwave and found that the instructions for setting the power level are incomplete. There is no mention that you have to set the cooking time before setting the power level. Otherwise, the microwave is great so far. It is attractive, is just the right size for the space in which it is used and cooks well. My mother had a Sharp microwave for over 25 years and it worked perfectly every time.
Me & my wife got our microwave from a friend/Neighbor. I never buy appliances from Sharp cause they dont last. Our microwave gets hot on the sides and back which is one of the many reasons I rated this microwave this way.
We purchased this microwave 7 months ago, we have had no issues up to this point, granted we do not use it every day, it smells as if something is burning. My whole kitchen smells of burning electric. Didn’t have any issues until now. I’ll be taking this back to Lowes. It’s model SMC 1452CH.
I have owned 3 Sharp microwaves. The first one lasted almost 20 years. I dont expect anywhere near that for this new one. I purchased this one in March 2015. The roller ring under the glass tray lost a wheel. I called Sharp with all my info (model, serial #). I was then told they dont have that part. I was given a number to a company who doesnt carry Sharp parts yet and said Sharp is constantly giving their number out. I have searched online with no luck. My model # doesnt even exist so how am I to find a part. You have to use the ring for your glass tray so I guess Im out of luck and need to buy a new microwave over such an important part! I will say one thing... MY NEXT MICROWAVE WILL NOT BE A SHARP!
This is my second Sharp microwave to burn up. We called the company the first time to report our microwave had went on fire and my husband hurt his hand throwing it out the back door. It was right before Christmas so we were forced to go out and get another microwave for the holidays because they refused to handle this in a timely manner. We purchased another sharp thinking that they would reimburse us when we settled with the company. They sent me a disclosure letter that I refused to sign so they were not willing to discuss any reimbursement after that.Moving forward a couple of years later with the second microwave while cooking a Potato, on the potato setting the microwave started to smoke up the whole house. It was a electrical smell and fried itself out. When I called the company to explain that this is the second time this has happened and to ask if maybe there was a recall they said no. After sending photo upon their request they contacted me and offered ME TO BUY another one directly from THEM. They also wanted the sticker from inside the microwave and for me to sign a disclosure. Bottom line... this is happening very often and probably should be recalled. I hope someone doesnt get really hurt. This is negligence.
The under the counter drawer type microwave is convenient, uses no counter space, easy to use and clean. The programming is very simple with a lot of timing features not normally found in countertop of cabinet mounted units. We have had it for 6 years and not one problem.
Model R-651ZM - This is our 2nd Sharp Microwave. Weve had this about two months and bought it from SAM’s Club. The first one lasted about 4 months, the second last about 2 months. It started making a loud overdrive kinda sound for about a day now and just stopped working. Back to SAM’s Club tomorrow to exchange. They said previous that they hadnt heard of any problems with Sharp, but Ive had two of them go out, and its not my wiring in the house. I have a dedicated circuit for my microwave. I hope this helps.
My Sharp microwave is 1 1/2 years old and the bottom under the turntable ring is rusting. My first microwave was a Sharp, and it lasted 20 years. Im very disappointed because Ive had several different microwaves since that never rusted. Is there any kind of paint I can use to cover up the rust?
Sharp Microwave Model Kb6525P - I was cutting up a chicken in a foil pan on my counter top. I accidentally cut a hole in the foil pan and the juice and grease leaked out onto the counter top down the side and into the Microwave. The oil and juice actually seeped into the front component and into the drawer as well as between the two glass front panels. The microwave drawer would not work after that and then the whole thing quit. Upon inspection by the service tech, he found that the plastic tabs holding the front panel had disintegrated. He also found that the electrical cord had not been sealed in properly and if the liquid had gotten in there, there would have been an electrocution of the microwave and probably me. This Micro was only 4 months old. After 2 1/2 weeks, Sharp has not given me a decision on what they will do. This product is an accident waiting to happen and is a total piece of Junk. If the drawer and components are not sealed what keeps the microwaves from escaping. Read all the rest of the bad reviews before you buy, they are all true, including the Customer Service.
We have a Sharp Carousel microwave that is now 18 years old. It still performs very well. The only maintenance that was done was to lubricate the door catches with WD40 two months ago. That is solid reliability. It is used multiple times every day.
The Only place that the Sharp Microwave Draw serial # is, is inside the microwave on a Sticker. Yes a sticker. So when the microwave heats or gets steamed the serial number and all other numbers on the sticker dissolve. If you need to get it serviced under a contract, forget it. The contract will NOT be honored because you dont have a serial number. So Due to Sharps negligence New Leaf Service Pro will it honor my additional 4-year contract. I am sure Sharp has received many complaints regarding this but all they can say is there is Nothing we can do without a serial number.Forget that you have a bill of sale. Doesnt matter. They know how to take your money for products. They put serial numbers inside a microwave on a sticker. I want to know what idiot thought of that. Common sense tells you heat and steam will remove ink. I WOULD RECOMMEND NEVER BUYING THEIR PRODUCT!! I received ZERO satisfaction from customer service. Im still waiting for them to return my call. What a Joke!
I bought a newly built home that had this brand appliance package installed which included the Sharp Microwave Model KB6524PS. After living there a few months, the microwave started to smoke without notice after I tried to use it. I contacted Sharp and they could not have been less helpful. I gave them all the model information and was told it was no longer under warranty even though I had only had possession of it for months. They also could not identify an authorized repair facility in my area. I am afraid to use the microwave and am dreading bringing in a unauthorized repairman.
Sharp Microwave r-309yv - I bought this microwave to replace one of another brand that burned up. Now I have this one for about two months and it seems the same thing is happening again. It stops running. At first I thought it was the outlet, so I checked that by plugging a lamp and the lamp worked. So I plugged in the microwave and it starts working again. A few weeks later, it stopped again. This time when I moved it to check the plug, I noticed that the bottom right hand side was very hot on the bottom. It stayed hot on the bottom for some time, even though it was unplugged. It has to be shorting out and burning bit by bit. At least I caught this before it smoked up my kitchen like the last one I had. If your microwave stops running, check the right hand side on the bottom. It should not be hot there.
This is just strong enough for what I need, compact enough to fit on the top of the fridge and was a good value for the price. I would buy another one like this again as it has worked well for 4 years. It is easy to clean and has a turntable.
I have had this Sharp microwave for more than 10 years. The quality and performance are top notch. It is dependable, sufficiently quiet and has powerful heating ability. I would definitely purchase this brand again.
Have a large Sharp Carousel II (1100 watts) from Best Buy. It has lasted a good 10-12 years and was very reliable. Due to an unsuccess effort to replacement the small cardboard radiation light cover, I have toss an otherwise perfect machine. It makes sparkling sounds. For a while, we were able to tape the pinhole leak shut. For safety reasons, we will toss it out. I have a small temporary microwave of 700 watts which is often disappointing and does not cook food well.
I love this huge microwave. It has been in daily use since purchased in 1996. A few months ago, when I needed a copy of the manual, Sharp came through quickly with a PDF of the original manual. It has a convection feature that I wanted to learn how to use.
Three months after installing the under counter microwave, while heating up a frozen patty, a couple of seconds into a 40 second cooking cycle, the unit started buzzing and emitting smoke. The smoke smelled electrical. Immediately turned off unit. Sharps first response was to try to sell me their extended warranty. (Which I will probably do if and when they repair or replace my unit.) I see that other people are having the same issue with this model. I strongly recommend, DO NOT BUY.
Purchased this Carousel microwave February or March of 2016. Still searching for receipt to prove this to Sharp customer service who states I purchased it in August of 2015. I understand the need for proof however at this point if I do not find receipt I will need to pay them a prorated fee to ship me a new one. Product was manufactured May 2015. Regardless of me owning it 9 mos or their claim of 16 mos this microwave is a hazard and I am thankful that no serious injury to myself, house or family members occurred.I came to this site to see if other complaints of this microwave coincided with mine. I have attached a picture as what happened is exactly what happened to Lee from Alabama had to review. Thankfully mine not as severe. So as for me locating a receipt to replace my microwave for free or their prorated fee, no thank you. Sharp should recall these and hope that consumers who purchased these dont get hurt or lose their lives over such an awful product. I have also attached product information serial number, model etc in hopes to warn other consumers.
Sharp Company, after a lot of phone trouble for me for an afternoon and a half, did send me a Refurbished smaller microwave for the Warranty fulfillment when my Sharp microwave stopped heating after less than a year. The smaller microwave they sent me is at least heating for the past few days. I was just relieved to get anything from them with not having the receipt. Ive researched the fact that its impossible to find a microwave anywhere nowadays that will last for a year or more, and that may possibly catch on fire too. I looked on the box this Refurbished microwave they sent me came in, and it showed...CHINA. I know Ill avoid Sharp products from now on.
I bought Sharp Microwave about 6 months ago. Around April 28, I noticed a spark inside the microwave and black spot. I contacted Sharp customer service...guy took all the details and told me someone will call me tomorrow. Guess what?? Nobody call. I called them and they ask me to send the pics of the micro. I sent right away and they told me that somebody will call. Guess what?? Nobody call. I called them again next day and they told me that they received the pic and the matter is under review and I should be hearing from them in day or so. Nobody call. You guys have to note that this is for MICROWAVE, the every-minute-use appliance. Long story short, I made like 10 calls in 10 days. One day I spoke with someone and ask a very simple question that what are the possible outcomes will be in this my case. She said she doesnt know. I was pissed. Eventually I requested to speak with manager/supervisor. The guy gave me the good answer and it was Friday. Remember during whole this process NOBODY CONTACTED ME WHEN ON EACH CALL THEY TOLD ME I SHOULD BE HEARING FROM THEM. Finally I called on Monday to inquire about the case, rep told me that they have approved my case and now they will send me the letter to sign. I received an email with letter. I signed and replied back.Moral of the story: for 200 microwave, SHARP dragged this case over 10 days and made my whole family life miserable. LISTEN SHARP...for house appliance claim...please stop harassing people by UNNECESSARY steps (photos, approval time, signed letter and then CC info). Above all, your customer rep are REALLY BAD in following up with customer. WORST EXCHANGE EXPERIENCE. I WILL NEVER BUY THE SHARP PRODUCT AGAIN. AFTER 10 days, they couldnt overnight the microwave. Please note if you dont change your customer service protocol...one day you will be out of business.
Purchased microwave December 2014 - after year and a half the following occurred. Family sitting in kitchen - microwave not in use - heard crackling noise like when someone puts metal in - then door of microwave shatters like crackled glass - immediately unplugged. Contacted Sharp to find out if this had ever happened before - stated no - was told they would contact their technical experts and get back to me? Experts? Said it was not a manufacturing issue??? They asked me if I thought it was a safety concern? Of course - Yes! duh. They opened up a case # on the incident and then offered to prorate a new one, same model for $100.After jumping through hoops to provide paperwork - finally received the new model. Guess what? They shipped the wrong one - lower wattage and smaller. I was not home to unpack - relative did. When plugged in to use, sounded like a Mack truck - smelled like something was burning up inside and did not heat food. Now back in communication with Sharp to take back incorrect model R-559Y and send another - hopefully the correct model. Very dissatisfied with customer service - should have replaced POC at no charge. Good luck with your safety if you purchase this model or any other Sharp microwaves.
My Sharp R 270 has just started to smoke and smell of burning wire. Recently, I noticed that the area below the turntable was getting badly stained and difficult to clean. Now I can see that a hole seems to have been eroded in the side wall, near the top on the vent side. This is dangerous as if something had been put on to cook and left unattended for a few minutes I assume it could have caught fire; and the kitchen with it. This microwave is about 3 years old and only used a few times a day, mainly just for warming up coffee! Its replacement wont be from Sharp.
We purchased a new home this summer. The builder had installed a Sharp Carousel microwave. It was great until last night. I decided to try the potato sensor. I put the potato in the microwave, pushed the button and started the microwave. About three minutes later I smelled smoke and turned to see the microwave on fire. I shut it off and the fire went out but there is a smoke smell that I cant get rid off. This is a very dangerous product.
My husband and I installed a new kitchen last year and we bought the drawer microwave model KB-6524PS on 8/6/14. The installation of this microwave was not until 10/14. This week, the drawer to the microwave stopped working. There is a year warranty on this product, but the product was not installed until October. Therefore, the warranty expired. I think the product was defective and should have been covered by warranty since it was installed within a period of one year. There was no help from customer service.
I do not have enough electrical power for the larger microwave that I would like to have as I cook a lot and could really benefit from a larger model. I am a senior citizen on a very fixed income and therefore cannot afford to have my home rewired at this particular time.
When we built our house 3 years ago the contractor installed a Sharp Insight Drawer microwave. Unfortunately within 2 years the microwave stopped functioning. We could not get Sharp to fix it. We really had another repairman who works for Sharp take the microwave to his shop and repair it. Tonight a large fireball shot out of the side of the microwave directly at my wife and the whole microwave shorted out. This is a very dangerous product and we will be immediately removing it from our home.
We have a Sharp Carousel A La Card Microwave. We have had this microwave for nearly 30 years and a few weeks ago the turntable stopped turning. It never gave us one bit of trouble and still heats fine but its time for a new microwave. This was a unique unit, had cards that you would slip in and out of a slot for various cooking times for many items and even some blank cards you could fill out for your own recipes. A quick in and out with the card and then push start button and the microwave did the rest. Of course you could still set your own time on the control panel and the cards were not necessary, just a feature of this model. This model cost a small fortune back when we bought it but it certainly paid off - lasted well and owes us nothing. However, after reading all the negative reviews about the current Sharp microwaves we will not look at the Sharp brand in our search for a new microwave.
We purchased this microwave in August of 2012. On two separate occasions while heating food, there was a small pop and flame occurred. Once the door was opened, it stopped and there was no damage to the interior or the panel.
