Product Reviews:

I bought a Bradford White water heater in 2010 and today the control module and pilot light are not working. I call to get it fixed and found out it is just out of warranty and is going to cost me about half of a new one to get fixed. This is the second one I have got from them and the first went out in 2 years and they go off the first unit on warranty not the new one. I have to say way to back your product up.

The pilot light on our hot water heater will not stay lit. We can't find the custom made "Replacement Kit" at any local retail locations, including a specialty appliance repair store, Lowe’s or Home Depot. So our only option seems to be waiting for the part to come in the mail. Meanwhile, my two little girls have no hot water in their home! Not because we couldn't afford to pay the gas bill, but because of the piece of junk hot water heater that we purchased and the lousy company that stands behind it!

I purchased a water heater by phone with a **, he assured me that the WH would be installed the same day. I received a call from Eyman Plumbing who couldn't install for 4 days!! ** should have ck'd to make sure the WH could be installed before making that statement and taking my money. My money cannot be returned for 7-10 days and water is destroying my laminate floor. Every # I called, no one could help and passed me to the next person. Sears has fallen from grace and I do not wish to ever do business again with them.

Gas control not working. I have replaced the thermostat twice in three years. Now, the hot water tank pilot will not light. The igniter works; a new thermostat has been properly installed, and the pilot will not light. The gas is on, and the tank has functioned. I just want a new gas control.

John Wood manufacturer is a Canadian company that is a subsidiary of GSW, acquired by AO Smith in 2006. It offers a wide variety of water heaters for any household, budget, installation requirements and house type, and is sold mainly in Canada. If looking for an affordable unit which comes with average energy efficiency, you can get one for a few hundred dollars. If you want the top of the line model, condensing tankless is what you should go for, or if you prefer traditional, tank-type Polaris or Envirosense is the right pick, but be ready to pay for the quality.

Purchased Bradford White 5years - 358 days ago, model m265r6ds-1ncww. Install and all repairs done by licensed plumbers. It's an electric water heater. Actually service life has been semi OK since we live in an area with very hard water and water treatment depends on regularly supplying expensive salt to conditioning unit. We are on well water. So I recognize it can cause some build issues over time. However contractor quality unit installed when I built house in 1994 lasted 14 years and was only replaced due to heating unit and wife's desire for larger capacity heater. So six years for the Bradford White seems like a short life for heating element and thermostat set (comes as two t-stat set). When it went out 3 days ago I called plumber this morning after original calls went unanswered by first plumbing co. This plumber was able to arrive today and quickly found the issue. We'd had a short period of very hot water followed by the failure of the heating element so he suspected faulty t-stat set. $230 later it was fixed and I asked him about warranty from Bradford White. He basically told me I could pursue it but he felt they wouldn't pay anything and he didn't have time to take my failed parts to the wholesaler which is what BW's warranty policy requires. I emailed and phoned BW and was basically told the plumber would have to take the parts to the wholesaler. Well, he isn't going to take his $100/hr. time and truck to get me an adjustment for parts that cost about $50 and I don't blame him. I told the BW people that and got the old story about "well that's the policy". After some further exchange they said I could call the plumber and find out who he got the BW parts from and then I could call BW back and let them know....At that point I cut the conversation off as it was clear they weren't going to do squat unless I jumped through all their hoops which are well designed to foil any attempt to get satisfaction under warranty. In summary, they won because it simply wasn't worth my time to jump through all their obfuscating hoops to get a warranty claim paid. Of course they don't cover any of the expensive part...the labor of replacement. They act like it was my fault, their part went bad before the warranty expired so I should bear the cost of labor for replacement. What fricken planet do these people live on?? Based on comparison with original heater, I would rate the BW product below average and their warranty as the worst I've ever seen. The wholesaler for this area, Western States, gets such bad reviews I didn't ever bother to contact them as people with much worse problems are getting nowhere or worse screwed by BW's process. NEVER AGAIN BRADFORD WHITE! Just tell the truth that you will fight warranty claims with every ounce of effort you can muster. What goes around comes around. Below average product in my experience and non existent warranty even though they claim to have one.

Purchased model #M061516469, 12-year warranty, 50 gal. unit (Serial XG50T120DU36U0) on Feb. 17, 2015. In mid August 2016 the unit began making a banging noise. Turns out the burner assembly was failing and the banging were actually mini explosions at burner shut down. Remember this unit had only been in service for 17 months. In Sept. 2016 the burner assembly was replaced, labor and parts were covered under warranty. Fast forward to Feb. 2019. The banging started again. Following Rheem's advice to begin warranty replacement of any failing parts a plumber came out to "diagnose" the problem. For a mere $215 the plumber told us what we already knew, burner assembly failure. This time the cost to diagnose came out of our pockets since the warranty on labor is only 3-years, the warranty on parts is 12-years. The cost to install the new burner assembly was to have been an additional $225, but the plumber was going to give us a "discount" and only charge us $175. As it turns out installation of the burner assembly would be zero because the part is OBSOLETE! Yes, parts on a four year old 12-year parts warrantied water heater are obsolete. With that said the solution offered by Rheem is a warranty replacement of the entire unit!! We have to remove the old unit, take it to Home Depot, replace it with another Rheem water heater and bring it home. If we want it professionally installed the cost is on us. This just boggled my mind! These heaters are extremely expensive. To have such an expensive unit fail, not once, but twice within four years, then have the company render it obsolete as to require replacement is just beyond me. I hate to think that I'll have another Rheem product in my home that is destined to fail due to obsolete parts before it's even close to the end of a 12-year warranty. Rheem should have absorb the cost of professional installation of their expensive parts obsolete four-year old unit. Seems like it would be the right thing for Rheem to do.

Licensed plumber installed BW Eco-Magnum Series w/Hydro jet 75 gal water heater on August 2016. Failed this week April 2020. Two pinhole leaks on lower sidewall approximately 6" from bottom, near the vent holes left of the Honeywell temperature regulator. The leaks were right at the weld areas. The insulation was completely soaked. Did not last 5 years even after routine flushes. Either tank defect or possible issues with the Honeywell regulator that may have overheated the unit. There was an attempted class action lawsuit regarding the Honeywell regulator. Water pressure valve and water pressure checks out. Plumber coming to replace on Monday April 6, 2020.

I purchased a Whirlpool hot water gas heater with a six-year warranty. It only lasted three years. When I called for an RA#, I was told, "Well, we'll send you a part after you get a plumber and pay for it." Meanwhile, there is water all over the cellar floor. I called again and was told the same thing. Two weeks of no hot water and no help from Whirlpool. I will never order anything Whirlpool ever again. They stink.

Since I bought this hot water heater, the pilot light constantly goes out. I am tired of calling the plumber. There have been so many complaints about this company. Why isn't something being done? I'm not rich and can't see myself running out and buying a new water heater because this company can't fix the problem and sell something decent. I feel I’ve been taken advantage of by purchasing a piece of junk! I would like an attorney about this matter!
