We purchased a Whirlpool water heater at Lowes for $1100.00. Four years later it isn't working. There are no parts to fix it available at any store in Dallas, TX. We had to call the company. They made us pay the overnight shipping fee for the part. Then the part didn't show up. When we called to find out why isn't the part at my house, they said they found out FedEx doesn't deliver on Saturdays. No one ever called to notify us of this, instead the response was that they would use it as a "coaching" lesson for not notify the customer. We have now been without hot water in the middle of winter for 5 days. We have no idea when the part will arrive and if it will even fix my defective water heater. We will never buy another Whirlpool product and I strongly encourage anyone who reads this to not buy Whirlpool. They don't stand by their product and have horrible customer service.

7-yr-old water heater and the thermocouple failed. No problem, a quick run to any of the many hardware/home improvement places around & grab a $12 replacement. Wrong! This unit has the discontinued left-hand threads, found nowhere else, so forced to order it from the manufacturer. I rigged a right-hand unit (by filing off the threads & placing it precariously in there as a temp fix), and called US Craftmaster. I thought since they had been in a major lawsuit, I might be sent a free replacement. If not, no worries, I'll pay the $15 or so since I jury-rigged it so we have hot water till the true replacement arrives. Called (surprisingly open on the Saturday before Easter) & ordered the piece, only to find out it has been discontinued. Now, they sell (possibly) a regular right-hand threaded thermocouple, with a left-to-right adapter for the bargain price of $34.95! I opted for the cheapest delivery of $10, instead of the $30 overnight delivery offered (which many people will fall prey to, as they don't have the know-how to rig a temp fix - we need hot water!).

Whirlpool hot water heater manufactured by American Water Heater Co. Model #FG1F3030T3NOV, serial #0605117824, product #0730402. After a year or so, I began having to relight the pilot every now and then. Throughout the years, it had to be lit more often until 02/09/2012, it wouldn't stay lit at all. I had asked someone at Lowe's and a plumber about the problem and was told it was probably the wind blowing it out. I live in a dessert community and it gets windy, so I took their word for it. Also, Whirlpool said to clean the screen on the bottom of the heater. It still didn't stay lit. On 02/13/2012, I contacted the person who originally installed it and we called Whirlpool. I was told to go to Lowe's and the part we needed was an "F" enhancement kit and would be of no charge to me. I went there and they didn't have it. I called back Whirlpool and they shipped it to me. My installer changed the part, but the pilot still wouldn't stay lit. Again, I called Whirlpool. I was told to go to Lowe's and get part #295098, a BFG gas thermostat. I got there and the clerk told me they didn't have it. I said, "you have to have it, go look again". He had the part. However, I didn't have the P10144500 number with me and I would have to pay for the part. I went back home for the number. Throughout this ordeal, I made 4 trips and my installer made one trip to Lowe's. I would think if Lowe's sells Whirlpool products, they would have more information and parts available. I always bought Whirlpool appliances and trusted their name. Not after this. I believe this product was bad from design and assembly, especially using a left-handed thermocouple. This was the 13th day I have been without hot water and I hope my heater stays lit now that it's fixed. I have never had problems with a water heater like this before. I am a single woman, age 71 and have been very stressed over this. My income isn't enough to pay plumbers for this again.

My Bradford White water heater is only a few years old. The pilot light went out. I made several unsuccessful attempts to relight same. Now I am without hot water on a Sunday morning. I read several complaints on the internet and I am convinced that Bradford is aware of this problem but fail to do the right thing and make a quality product.

Thermal Coupler is bad after 4 years. I contacted Bradford White after having plumber from Mike Diamond let me know the unit is under warranty. After contacting BW, I was told to contact Ferguson Plumbing Supply. After waiting for about an hour to let a new employee figure out how to handle a swap of a warrantied product, I was told I owed $25 for a handling fee. What the heck was he talking about? BW told me it would be a swap at no charge to me. I contacted BW and they told me it was up to their supplier. I told BW I will NEVER buy another BW product and he didn't seem to care. What a ripoff! I could go to Home Depot or Lowe's and pay about $6 for a thermal coupler and install it myself with any other water heater, but NO... not with BW. I guess we're going to get rid of this unit and get a tankless water heater. Thank you, BW, for helping us speed up the process to purchase another mfg's tankless water heater!!!

After reading many of the 1,500 +/- complaints about this inferior product, I guess I should consider myself lucky. Ours didn't fail until this past Saturday, March 22, 2014. We purchased this Whirlpool (American Water Heater Company) water heater FG1H4040T3NOV at Lowe's, and had it professionally installed, in October 2004, and we have had no issues until this past Saturday when we woke up to no hot water. After checking for the obvious, and finding no apparent cause for the failure, I considered it a fluke and relighted the pilot. The pilot took a few attempts to light, but it lit, and the burners came on.Three days later, we woke to no hot water again. This time, we placed a service call to the company that did the initial install. The technician came out, and after his inspection he informed me that the thermocouple/burner assembly needed to be replaced. He also informed me that this is a well-known issue, and Whirlpool has been sending out free updated replacement parts. He called Whirlpool, only to be told that they are no longer offering free, updated parts. Whirlpool also cited that the water heater was out of warranty (by less than 5 months). He gave me Whirlpool's number, so I could contact them myself. As I smelled a rat, I began to do some online research about this issue, and, to my chagrin, I found out that I was far from alone with this issue. As of this writing, 1,500+ consumer and professional complaints, a settled class-action lawsuit, etc., etc. I contacted Whirlpool, explained my situation to the support rep, and, he proceeded to tell me that he couldn't help me with free replacement parts, due to the warranty being expired (less than 5 months). I argued with him, stating that this is not a warranty issue, but is in-fact a design/manufacturing defect issue, that has resulted in a redesign/re-manufacture. I cited the myriad of online data and negative testimonials, and I reminded him about the settled class-action lawsuit on this very topic. He acknowledged all of the above, was unimpressed, and offered to sell me the parts. After 15 minutes of back and forth, I asked to be escalated to the next level. But, of course the supervisor was unavailable, and If I'd care to leave my name and number... yeah, right. Bottom line, I'm very angry! I paid good money to Lowe's for Whirlpool's product, with a nine-year warranty. I had it professionally installed, and we have no hot water due to poorly designed parts. And... I am being forced to purchase the redesigned parts. It's truly unsatisfying to be an American consumer these days!

We purchased our system in 2007 and have had every problem you can imagine. Major part replacements, like heater coils. Currently we are having cooling issues. Last year the freon had leaked out, we are thinking that is what's happening again. Getting ready to have it serviced to find the problem. After reading all the negative reviews, a class action suit needs to be filed against the makers of this product. I'm going to need money to replace this unit. I agree with the others who posted a review, it's an expensive piece of junk!

The company won't honor the warranty. The water heater is about 5 years old. It quit heating water about 2 or 3 months ago. The plumber who installed it says it needs parts and is under warranty. The company has stalled for several months. They simply won't ship the parts he has asked for or replace the defective heater. I hope whoever reads this will tell everyone they know not to purchase anything from American Water Heater Company. I think they also make Whirlpool.

In 2007 our Whirlpool 30 gallon gas water heater began to have issues. Serial number 0425126675, Model Number FG1F3030T3NOV. The pilot light kept going out and would not stay lit.. After several times with replacement parts being sent with the same thing happening, finally in 2010 they replaced the water heater. A new water heater was professionally put in, serial number 1023T412357 Model number BFG1F3030T3noHV.I am having the exact same issue and I was told that the warranty was null and void on the new water heater because it was a replacement. They replaced a defective water heater with a defective water heater. I called the number given to me by Lowe's 1/877/817/6750. I spoke with Nichole. I told her that I should not have to pay for replacement parts for a defective water heater. I told her that I was never informed that there would not be a warranty. I live on a fixed income and cannot afford to buy another water heater because I was given a defective water heater in replacement for a defective water heater. I became angry stating, "Thanks for nothing" and I hung up. So many people have the same problem with these water heaters that something MUST be done.

Hot H20 tank failed after 4.5 yrs. Rheem will not honor 7 yr. warranty because there is no longer a commercial dealer in my town. Beware of poor/no customer support with this company. Very disappointed, in what used to be a dependable company.
