The temperatures can really go high in the summer days. You can’t imagine my frustration when my AC broke last summer. For about 2 weeks we had to go without any air conditioning. I was in a rush to get the problem fixed so I got this Ruud but I didn’t know much about the unit. Finally, the problem was solved but then I wasn’t sure the unit would hold up without breaking down. i am giving this a 5 star rating based on the performance of this 12000 btu unit. with that said ive only had it a week now hopefully it will give me years of service. i was replacing a 10000 btu unit that was still working but not up to the task of cooling half of my small house. this little unit now cools most of the house and i have turned off other small units else where in the house. thats the good, my only complaint is the confusing symbols and unnecessarily complicated instructions. i almost returned it before i figured out that a wagon wheel was the symbol for ac (?). i live in florida and its been in the mid 90s lately, if i let this run on high all night its 65 in the living room in the morning! udate 7/19/19. this great little unit has functioned perfectly so far. i checked my electric bill and the last two months i saved over $150 per month over last year so it has paid for itself several times over already.rob davidson

i live upstairs in a old apartment, single pane windows..crooked doors with gaps.. i think it works good for what it is.. i own it for a year now..going on my second summer.. helpful hint... if you are gonna wait till the room is 80 plus degrees. then use this ac unit.. its not gonna cool the room.. i have mine sitting in my living room, 450 sq ft. i check the weather and set mine to come on early.. example.. its gonna be 85 or 100 today.. i set it to start running at 7am. i got to work, come home about 4pm.. the place is about 73 to 75 degrees.. i should note that when its 110 to 115 outside.. my inside temp is 77 to 78.. its better then nothing.. i cant have a window ac unit, apartment wont allow. i think it would be cooler if i didnt have gaps in my front door or windows..the unit basicly runs from 7am til 10pm everyday.. my electric bill isnt bad.. probably an extra 40 bucks tops. my freakin portable heater in the winters, uses up way more electricity.. the whynter isnt that loud, for a portable ac.. i had louder ones.. just remeber..get a head start... start this or any portable ac unit early while the room isnt hot yet.. something is better then nohing..and buy thia unit when its on sale..mvwj

Payne is a good air conditioner company, their HVAC systems seldom let you down. When I read reviews about it though I found a lot of negative reviews and wondered if the quality had been watered down. I ignored most of it though because sometimes the installation is the problem. I replaced my old Ruud ac with Payne and so far it has only proven me right. The system was installed about a year and a half ago and all I have done is routine maintenance. I bought York because my son recommended it to me and so far I like how it works.
