Bought a new Rheem 50 gallon gas water heater from Home Depot. Plumber installed water heater but it kept cutting off. He walked with Rheem technician and found the new heater had a faulty valve. After a lengthy delay, Rheem sent the new valve and it was installed. We tried to have Rheem pay Amerigas (he worked for them) for the installation. After repeated delays because of missing paperwork (we sent multiple copies), Rheem indicated they would pay the gas company. They have not and now the gas company tells us we are late in our payment. We have never been late in our payments to anyone!Today Rheem told us they had sent us a letter (Right! We have received no such letter!) telling us they will only pay about 40% of the installation fee for that defective part. NEVER AGAIN!! Do not buy from Rheem. They send defective products then fail to cover the installation cost of replacement parts. Never again! Stay away from this company. Now we are left to worry about this water heater should anything go wrong with it in the future! What kind of company is this!! Oh, and their service department is a joke. Sadly the joke was on us. Stay away!!!!

Bought a Rheem water heater in Feb 2012. After 11 months Jan 2013 thermocouple went out. Replaced no charge. Feb 2014 thermocouple goes out again. Will ship the part to me but I need to pay labor. I was told by a Rheem rep the new part has been redesigned but Rheem was not covering labor even though it affect all the water heaters they make. Very angry and disappointed in Rheem product and customer service. At this point labor cost for repair is $95.00 a hour. A lot of money for a unemployed person!!!

I am very dissatisfied with my tankless water heater. Our problem of no hot water started in June of 2011 and we continue to have this problem. Tankless water heater would work for few weeks then start flashing error code 11 or 12 on the monitor, and no hot water. This issue continued on and off for a while and now, it has gotten worst. Weve contacted Rheem customer care several times and each time, they all seem to tell us different reason for our problem. It really is a challenge trying to see if we will have hot water each day. Just recently, Rheem representative told my husband the gas line pipe is the wrong size. Thats not true because weve already checked the line, valve, gas flow, etc. They dont know what the heck they are talking about. They must read the problem manual given to them when they were hired. Weve also had Rheem authorize repairer looked at it. They have no idea what or how to fix this problem. Between Rheem customer care and Rheem authorized repairer, I dont know which one is worse because they are just one sorry ** after another. My husband and I are seriously thinking about switching back to the good, old-fashion water heater because we never had any problem with it. When our friends talk about installing tankless water heater, we tell them dont get Rheem tankless water heater because it sucks!

I just got gas hot water heater in October 2015 and already having problem with unit. Called to get technician to come and look at - only be told technician will not come in my area. So now I have to come out of my pocket to have someone replace a part when I am under warranty and be reimbursed within 4 to 6 weeks. First I advise not to go through Home depot cause even though they install, they do not service. Secondly, run when you hear Rheem. I thought one of top companies for heaters, but found customer service practices nightmarish. Why would you ever do business with technicians who would not service your customer areas. I will be writing whomever I have to, because that is just lousy customer service. The customer have to find a technician to fulfill the labor part of the warranty. Whatever happened to our country where you buy a product and a so called solid company stands behind it and makes the customer experience pleasant at best. I should have gone through PSEG - at least I know I could get service in my area. Just a damn shame.

Rheem he80-130n commercial water heater - I own a restaurant in Phoenix and your water heater was nothing but trouble for me. Its a real hunk of junk. The unit was very expensive to begin with and was only 2 years old when the first igniter went out. Now, when the unit was 3 and a half years old, the igniter went out again and blew the main board. We replaced blown igniter again and blown board again. The plumber I had working on it said the unit was poorly designed. I cant believe what a hunk of junk this unit is. On top of that, I could not buy parts on the west coast. I had to have them shipped next day from Boston. It really is bad business to have a product that you cant even get parts for. A restaurant cant run without hot water, so it needs to be easy to repair. But to only last for 3 years and cost $6,000 is totally unacceptable. That I put $900 in parts and the unit still only worked for a couple of days is crap! So I had to take your unit out and replace it with another one, which cost me a lot of time and money ($5,000). It also caused my business to suffer from having to close kitchen because of your faulty product design. You would think for all that money this unit would work much better than it does. For the igniter to blow and destroy the motherboard, that’s a poor design. I believe your company should refund me part of the cost of the unit for it being such a piece of crap, or at least for the parts that I purchased and the labor to install them. Just an extremely unhappy customer!

I tried to leave a review on Home Depots website about my negative experience with Rheem water heaters. Both times my review was not accepted due to not meeting quality guidelines. Im starting to wonder how many other reviews arent showing from their site. We have had a lot of experience with Rheem. They used to make one of the best water heaters available even though they made all of the GE water heaters that had so many quality issues, the Rheem tank brand was still a good tank. Since Rheem no longer makes water heaters for GE and now has the Home Depot contract they have folded many cheap tanks into them.On two separate occasions we had purchases a Rheem short 40 gallon water heater when a standard water heater would not fit. Both times we made the long haul of getting the tank and just as we got them out of the box we found big dents on both heaters. They had to be returned because while it was only the shell that was damaged, we had concerns about the condition of the glass liner.

I needed to purchase a new natural gas water heater because my Rheem / Rudd brand started leaking. It was installed in 1992 so I figured I couldnt go wrong buying another Rheem. Bought it at the big box store, took it home and had it installed within an hour. I tried to start it up using the easy start system, but the pilot would not stay lit. They idiot proof these new water heaters so you cant actually access anything or complete any kind of small repair. All over the box, the tank, and instruction manual it says that I cant return the unit to the store. I have to call their 1800 number and get assistance. This is where things get interesting. I called the number and explained what was wrong. The support person walks me through the same stuff thats written in the instruction manual. He comes to the conclusion that the unit is defective and tells me a work order will be created and within one day someone will call me. Of course a day passes and no one calls me. So I call Rheem and they tell me that a local company has the work order. Called the local company and they tell me that they dont have the part to fix the tank and they can’t come out until Rheem sends ME the part. I call Rheem, and of course they tell me that they wont send me the part and that the local company has to first come out and diagnose the problem. At this point I am angry and explain to them that it is the middle of winter, I have two small kids and just want hot water. I ask if I can return the tank to the store and they tell that they wont authorize a return until the unit gets diagnosed. I call the local company back and they tell me that Rheem is giving me the run around and that the part is probably on back order so it could be weeks before I get the problem solved. He tells me I would be better off dealing with the big box store. I called the big box store and explained the situation and they agreed to take the unit back as defective. The big box store and the local company apologized. Rheem were jerks. I hope the company goes bankrupt and all of their support people lose their jobs and have to go without hot water.

Your company sucks and take advantage of their customers. You guys sold me a faulty unit. I followed your directions to a T. After months and months of back and forth emails I finally called today. Spoke to 4 people and the last person I spoke to was so rude and refused to let me speak to a manager. Im out $1500 for a water heater that last 3 months. This is complete ** and not sure how you guys still have a company. I will do everything in my power to make sure everyone knows my issues. And after looking into it Im not the only one with this issue. You guys should be ashamed to have such a ** company. And to take advantage of people in times like this. 100% the worst company I have ever dealt with. And to not be able to speak to a manager and I even let them know I have numerous emails since February 2021 regarding this issue. I have all my documents of all conversations. So this will be taken to the next step.

Purchase gas water heater August 2020. May 2021 gas valve became faulty. They shipped one out (2-4 days) and finally had someone schedule to come out after 7 days with no hot water. They proceeded to tell me that the gas valves for this unit manufactured between April and October 2020 are faulty and are having all kinds of issues. I was assured that the one they replaced in May 2021 that the issue was fixed and I would not have this problem. Now it is December 2021 and the gas valve has broke again. Only now I no longer have a labor warranty and I have to pay out-of-pocket for that. They do not stand behind the product. Customer service is extremely rude and unhelpful and they do not care whether you’re out of hot water or not. All they do is make excuses. I will never purchased one of these again.

We purchased a home water heater with installation from Home Depot. That was done on Monday. The technician left before it was filled. The tank, not the pipes, started leaking as soon as it was full. We contacted the contractor and Home Depot and they both said to contact Rheem. After 37 minutes on hold I was told that a licensed Rheem professional would contact me within 24 hours to schedule a time when he could come verify the leak for himself. Now day 2 of no water heater and no call. Stay away from Rheem and Home Depot.

My hot water heater’s FVC broke after two weeks. They told me dust could set it off? Or unopened paint cans? Who doesn’t have that stuff in their basement? They then were supposed to send me a new part which took a week to get to me. Hot water heater broke on a Friday but they couldn’t send a part out to me until Monday. They tried to blame it on FedEx. But they managed to get me the return label to send back the defective part in two days. No apologies or anything. Stay away from this company!

I purchased a Rheem Paloma tankless water heater in November 2012. The unit had a bent exhaust pipe right out of the box. The seller sent a replacement and I contracted with a plumbing company to install the unit. Additional parts were required just to adhere to basic code requirements. The unit oozed an oily substance and the power quit halfway through a cycle (fun times when taking a shower). They said to send the fail code and I have not heard anything back for more than 10 days (I had included photos also). The unit also emitted an oily substance that beaded up and so now Im reluctant to use it at all. Not having a potable water source in a suburban home is a real downer. Im taking water samples to the County Water Health Department tomorrow to see what substance is in the water. The installer I hired has now passed on doing anything further, left the job, cleaned up his mess and waived his installation fee for fear that he might be linked to this product. Rheem has admitted that the unit is not in production and out of warranty. Its another reason to never buy things like this on eBay. Based on the other posts on this site, Rheem is displaying behavior that needs to be well publicized to avoid rewarding this kind of corporate behavior to those of us in the consuming public. Rheem has a list of other tankless units posted that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and mine does not yet fall within that list.

Worst Experience of my life. Do not, I repeat, do not buy their unreliable products. Customer support is horrible, and impossible to reach. My new water heater broke down after 1 year of installation. I called their customer support, they hung up on me after waiting for an hour and half to talk to them and mind you I called them at 8:30 AM. The next time I called I had to wait 3 hours. If the average waiting time is 2:20 hours then maybe just maybe you should hire more tech support!!! Or maybe stop selling cheaply made equipment!

Unfortunately my experience mimics that of others. I thought that I was buying a reputable 50 gallon high efficiency hot water tank costing me a total of $2,059. My tank was manufactured 3/31/2021. I havent had it a year yet and we are out of hot water. I called this evening the first call in waited 1hr 27 just for someone to answer and immediately hangs up. I mean before she could finish her greeting she stop speaking, made some type of gesture with her mouth then hung up. So I call again and just like the first call I held on waiting for 52mins, someone finally answered just to tell me, Oh hold on. I have to transfer you to technical support. So I held on for another 49mins. Now this is the good part, someone finally answered just to tell me she has to send a referral to the technicians and they will call to me to schedule a service call.

My water heater failed and after contacting Rheem tech support they agreed that the unit needed needed to be replaced. No one in my region [including Rheem] had any replacements so Rheem told me to purchase one from Home Depot, which I did. After months of emails, submitting numerous copies of documents and hours of phone calls I received a check for 1/2 of the replacement unit value. Rheem informed me that the unit wasnt worth what I paid for it. My cost would have been the same from Rheem, Home Depot or a Rheem authorized dealer. Rheems lifetime warranty is a lie. Its a great water heater, but you would be better served buying a decent quality unit from another manufacturer. If I had known that they werent going to honor the warranty I wouldve bought a different brand.

I had a water heater installed in January 2021. June 2021, water heater inoperable. I had the gas valve replaced and polit assembly replaced. I had a Rheem representatives on the phone with technician who installed the tank and they got into a shouting matchen until technician hung up phone. Rheem was confident the thermal release device activated and told me that if the device was no activated, they would replace tank, at their expense, without question. I confirmed that the TRD was still in good condition and was told that they would have one of their approved technician exchange the tank. The next day, they told me that I would have to secure my own technician and that they would reimburse me up to $450 to have a technician come disable tank, go to Home Depot to exchange it and reinstall new tank for up to $450. What plumber do you know will do all that for $450?? I got back on for phone with them and after waiting on the phone for more than 1.5 hours, they secured a plumber to come do the exchange. This was after they told me they did not have a plumber to do the job. Each time I called, I was on the holding on the phone for more than an hour. I have been without hot water for about a month.

Not sure how many of the water heaters made by Rheem are faulty. But mine was (just a knob in the front, so far) and let me tell you, the customer service sucks. They were rude and dismissive to my plumber when he called the night he installed it. Then neither of us could get hold of them the following day (a Wednesday). Finally on Thursday morning, I reached someone who was clearly bored and not caring. She told me a local contractor had the job so I needed to call them. A rude and dismissive person was eventually reached (after 2 hours of calling) at the local contractor number. Nobody could come out until the following day, Friday (today). When he finally showed up, he told me he was there to do a determination on what was needed. Then he had to call Rheem, and order the part. Which would not be shipped until Monday! Mind you, this puts me at a week without hot water, apparently due to the company who makes this water heater not caring!!! DO NOT BUY A RHEEM PRODUCT.

I just acquired a new hot water heater and wanted to learn more about preventative maintenance needed to prolong its useful life. One agent was helping me with ensuring warranty dates are accurate as their records show warranty start date as date of manufacture. Date of install is 5 months later.. They have a website for registration but that did not help update their warranty records. He told me to use their website again. I told him I already did that and nothing changed. Then, he said all I had to do reply to his email with copies of invoices and extended warranty info and all will be taken care of. A day later, nothing. So I called back and somebody else says she will look into it, update records and EMAILl me a screenshot to show it is done. No email received but warranty record was updated to correct start at date of install but did not include extended warranty date of additional 4 years. So now I have to call them back regarding this. Why is it so hard?In addition, I wanted to buy extra anode rods (secondary, connected to HOT WATER Side) so that I have them readily available 5 years or so from now. That seems to be a VERY complicated process. Always requires Serial number which is totally irrelevant. All manufacturers anode rods are universal. Difference is length of rod, length of nipple (for those that are installed in the HOT WATER side of the tank) and material composition. After half a dozen emails back and forth, still no info as to how I can get the anode rod needed. I even gave them part numbers and they told me to contact another department as the department I contacted do not handle customer service inquiries, just website related. HUH???Another customer service rep emailed me instruction on how to maintain as well as user manual. I thanked him for it, asked him more questions, and.... NO RESPONSE since then.. A couple of follow up emails and still no. WHY? Frankly, I worry about the service I will be getting from this company when something really wrong happens.. I may have made a mistake buying their stuff. Their A/C unit is outstanding. Water heater is another story as I had problems with inaccurate thermostat BUT, to their credit a new thermostat was immediately sent and that fixed my problem. I worry what else will go wrong and the runaround I will get. Caveat Emptor !!!

I bought a Rheem water heater in May 2017 from Home Depot. 7 months later it failed right on Christmas Eve. I called Rheem and the warranty part was sent quickly, but since they could not find any contractor in my area to do the work, they said I can use anyone local. I filled out the warranty claim and sent all the required paperwork back on Jan 2nd, 2018. First they said itll take 6 - 8 weeks to process the claim. Its now 2 1/2 month (March 16th, 2018) and my claim was still not processed. The last time Ive called, I was told that they were back-up in the warranty claim department (wow... imagine how many units have failed that could create such a back-up), but since its more than 8 weeks, theyll expedite my claim. Guess what, expedite or not, my claim is still in limbo somewhere. Very disappointed with how Rheem handles customer claim. No wonder no contractor in my area wants to work with Rheem. People, please dont buy Rheem, not worth it when you have to be hold 45 minutes on the phone with them or call them every month to check on your warranty claim just to hear the same excuse.

Two months after installing a water heater we got awful sulfur taste and smell. We tried the recommended treatment using hydrogen peroxide to kill the bacteria. This worked for 3 months and then it came back, so we treated the condition again with peroxide. This worked for another 6 months. By now Covid virus was in effect and we could not buy the peroxide anywhere. We noticed water on the floor and I also noticed the electrical breaker had popped. Taking the top cover off, I found the insulation covering the top element and thermostat burned and the wires black and corroded. I spoke to Rheem 3 times, each time a different person, but got nowhere. All they offered was a new element even though the whole insulation within the unit was totally wet. Based on the corroded condition of the wires, the thermostat and the element, we refused their miserly offer. We finally contacted Home Depot and spoke to someone knowledgeable, Les, the plumbing manager, and he agreed to call Rheem. After getting nowhere with this company, he spoke to his manager and suggested replacing the heater at their cost which they did. We hope this one is better but we dont expect to have the same life as our previous heater that lasted 28 years.

I purchased a new 12-year water heater in December 2009 from Home Depot. Less than two years later (21 Aug 11), the water heater broke down, the pilot light failed to light and there was no hot water. I called GE/Rheem service line and instructions were given to re-light the pilot. I got it going for only five minutes before shutting off again. Then, I called Pacific Gas and Electric Company on the next day, 22 Aug 11, for unbiased diagnostic check. PG&E came on 23 Aug 11 and determined that the water heater was properly installed, the air vents were clear and no obstructions but, again, the pilot light failed to sustain or remain lit for more than six minutes. I called GE/Rheem service line and described the sequence of events. The phone technician quickly stated that she would send a gas valve control which would take care of the problem. I asked if there were problems with these heaters but I did not get a clear answer. She stated that she would send out the part via FedEx to arrive the next day between 10-12 noon. Its already 5:00 p.m. but there is still no part and it is too late now to find a plumber to come install. Meanwhile, it has been four days without hot water. I checked the Internet and found an incredible amount of complaints regarding the specific product of GE water heaters and many of them were purchased from Home Depot.

I purchased a 50 gallon Rheem Performance Hot water heater from Home Depot a few years ago. Right before Christmas the digital control panel went out. I searched the internet and found out there is a recall on them. I called Rheem customer service and had to wait on hold for at least 30 minutes to talk to a representative. The representative was helpful and sent me the necessary paperwork to fill out. They authorized the repair to be up to $250.00. I had to call Mac Plumbing and the part was delivered and installed on Christmas Eve. So appreciative to get hot water back.I sent all necessary papers to Rheem for the reimbursement right away along with the proof of payment. Rheem never confirmed they received the necessary information. I called Rheem customer service to verify they received the necessary paperwork to process the form. I spent at least 45 minutes on hold. I talk to the representative and he verified they have the necessary paperwork. Then I got disconnected. It is Feb 18th and I have not received the reimbursement of $249.00 they authorized to get the recall repairs complete. I am totally disappointed with Rheems customer service. It is unsatisfactory!

I moved into a brand new home in April 2016. I started having issues with my Rheem tankless water heater approximately 5 months after move in. It kept displaying a error code 12. The builder immediately had his plumber come out. We also included the gas provider in attempting to solve the mystery. After very extensive inspection, it was determined there were no issues at all with plumbing of the gas. Rheem sent another plumber out to change the fire rods. That seem to fix the issue. But, the error code returned approximately 2 months later. At that time, they sent another plumber out to do the same thing. Well, here it goes again... The same error code is back. Rheem has been very unresponsive to my requests. My family and I have had to endure this nightmare for a year and a half. Supposedly, we purchased the “top of the line” unit from Rheem. However, the service I’ve received so far doesn’t reflect that at all. Rheem needs to do the right thing, and replace the unit.

Cant I get no stars? My water heater broke (leaking) after 5.8 years. It is still under Rheem warranty, so I called Rheem and they said I had to take the water heater back to where it was purchased to get credit or a replacement. I cant remember where it was purchase and I cannot even lift the water heater. My plumber is not willing to take the heater to where it was purchased without charging me the time which is substantial. So Rheem wont honor the warranty unless I bring the whole water heater, this makes no sense. In essence they are saying if I cant carry the water heater into the place it was purchased I can get reimbursed. What is that but a sham! I will never purchase a Rheem product again!

Purchase brand new water heater from HOME DEPOT. Had it installed correctly. It leaked. Submitted pictures to Rheem and they said it was a manufacturers defect and gave me $250 to get it unhooked, returned and a new one installed! $250, in their own words, is the National Average for reinstallation. No plumber would even unhook it for $250 let alone install a new one. We live in Mississippi, not New York or LA. Surely, the National Average would suffice here. Ive spent $300 to get it installed, another $300 to get it returned and another $300 to get it reinstalled. And all they can give through their warranty program is $250. Its their poor workmanship that caused all of it. NEVER BUYING THIS AGAIN. DECIDED TO GO WITH AN AO SMITH WATER HEATER. GREAT QUALITY!!!

I bought a Rheem 50 gal. residential gas hot water heater. Installed it myself, because its not difficult. Lit the pilot and gave it ample time to heat. Got a shower that evening and the water temp. alternated from warm to cool and continued to cycle that way throughout the entire shower. Couldnt get any help from Home Depot. Most reps there dont know their ** from a hole in the ground. Looked online and found some broke-** plumbers asking for donations to solve problems. What I did is what most should do, but dont because they dont have the time or cash. This is precisely how a company like this survives. There is not enough coverage on what a piece of ** product these ** put out. Just another sell out company that has junk put together by those from the land of dirty **. Had a plumber buddy suggest Rinnai. So I drained the Rheem and took it back. Put a Rinnai in and lived happily ever after. Because Im from back east and dont mind speaking out. Every time Im in Home Depot, supply yard, hardware store, etc.. Ill check the plumbing supply aisle, and have thus far talked 3 people out of buying Rheem products. Feel like getting Rheemed Id say. That doesnt hurt their profit, but if people keep it up and bad mouth them every chance they get, especially us contractors, eventually they may build a better product or at least hire a few professionals to help. Either way, Im from the old school and its too late, will never buy anything this company puts out and have steered other contractors to this site, so they can see for themselves the amount of dissatisfaction. Thank you Consumer Affairs and all those who took the time to help talk me out of buying Rheem.

I bought my water less than a year ago and a defective part made the heater stop working. I called the number on the warranty and got a complete run around for 2 hours kept transferring from one to other. They told me final that in two days they would send some out. The company they said they called didnt get the request for three days and said they couldnt come out for a week anyway. Rheem told me to call my own plumber to fix problem and they would reimburse me. I did what they asked, sent all documents to them, they replied. It will take 6 to 8 weeks for a refund. Needless to say as of today June 11, 2021 I have not received my refund after countless emails. What do I do, please advise. This started in March 2021. Thank you.

Purchased a 50 gallon Rheem electric hot water heater from Home Depot. Had a master plumber install the water heater. He thought all was working well. Never got any hot water. Plumber came back later to see what was wrong. Plumber contacted Rheem and explained what was going on with the water heater. Rheem told him it was defective and gave him a case number. They also told him a plumbing company in Maryland would handle checking out the heater to see if it could be repaired. By the way, I live in Georgia! Plumbing company in Maryland told my plumber they did not have a work order for my water heater. My plumber contacted Rheem at least ten times concerning the heater. Rheem could find the case number, but could never find any paperwork concerning my plumber contacting them. They put the burden on me by telling me to find a licensed plumber and having the heater repaired and then they would reimburse me. Is this the best they can do to stand behind their product? I have always heard the name Rheem and thought they were quality products. I will never buy Rheem products again. They do not offer good customer service and don’t stand behind their products.

I purchased a 50 gal Rheem water heater XG50T12DU36U0 from Home Depot, I installed and it would not light up unless I would close and reopen the gas line manually. I called Rheem, troubleshooted the water heater with them over the phone and they decided it was the gas valve. I replaced it for them and the problem continued. I called them again, troubleshooted the heater again and they said it was the ignitor and asked me to replace it. I refused to replaced because I did not want to damage the heater and invalidate the warranty. Their repair company replaced the ignitor, the unit started after many sparks and then would not work again. I called Rheem again, troubleshooted again the flammable gas sensor, reset the gas valve without fixing the problem. They said it was the thermal protection device and asked me to open and remove the burner which I refused to do. I got tired of this and asked to return the unit. Rheem says they do not recommend that because they want to keep troubleshooting the unit (while I take cold showers...) and do not issue a Return Authorization number. Home Depot manager says I need to contact Rheem, get a return authorization number and they do not honor the 90 day return policy nor provide me a copy of it (they said I can take a picture of the policy on the counter). The policy does not mention water heater as non returnable items but still the manager does not accept me to return the heater. The manager said also that since the water heater was installed I cannot return it. Home Depot 1-800 customer service says I can return the unit (with receipt, serial number on heater and undamaged) but they cannot override the store manager. Do NOT buy RHEEM WATER HEATERS from HOME DEPOT.

We purchased 56 Rheem water heaters for our senior housing community in Eudora Kansas. 12 of the tanks have had failures within the first 4 years of service. None of the plumbing contractors want to work on the Rheem water heaters because they were purchased from Home Depot and are told that parts are not easily available. We are slowly switching out the tanks to another brand that was recommended by our plumbing contractor. We will no longer be purchasing any Rheem water heaters.

We have had nothing but problems with our Rheem tankless hot water heater. Right now at this moment we are without hot water and have been so for almost 2 weeks now. Our unit is under warranty and needs to be replaced. Rheem did send us the vent kit, but no heater. We have called customer service. The first two ladies we spoke to were nice then we were transferred to another lady that was quite rude and absolutely no help at all. She told us that we need to contact the parts service department, our problem isnt HER problem. On the phone for hours with no results. Our plumber is at his wits end dealing with this company. We were told to go to Menards and purchase a new heater ourselves and Rheem would reimburse us for the cost. Yeah right! Rheem needs to send the unit, because I do not trust that they will reimburse us after all the trouble we have had getting anything out of them. We are still under warranty! We have company coming for Thanksgiving and no hot water! Im snapping and so sorry we ever went with Rheem. We are so disappointed in this company and the way they treat their customers. My advice to anyone considering a tankless, DO NOT BUY ONE FROM RHEEM!!!

Rheem Performance natural gas hot water heater installed June, 2020. May, 2021 water temperature swinging 90 - 140 degrees intermittently. July, 2021 called installer, he had me call Rheem. August, 2021, Rheem sent me the controller/gas valve device. Had my installer swap the controller, paid $150. The new controller was dead, did not work! Installer put old controller in so I would at least have hot water. Called Rheem again, they said to remove and bring back to Home Depot. Even though the problem started in less than a year they will not cover installation. So now I have to pay. Going to file with small claims court now. One more thing, plan on spending hours on hold to get to their customer support. Stay away from Rheem hot water heaters.... junk.

Rheem does not honor their warranty. My plumber installed two Rheem water heaters in my two family and it worked great for two years. Three months ago, one of them burst at the bottom and flooded my basement. It was not a problem because I got 6 or 7-year warranty on the product. I then called Rheem they confirmed that the product is under warranty. They gave me a return number and advised me that I should take the defective heater back to where I purchased it.The contractor took it back but the distributor where it was originally purchased said that they will not exchange. I contacted Rheem and they told me to try another distributor--same thing, no exchanges. I called several more and asked Rheem if they could ship me one they said no. This has been ongoing for three months so I eventually contacted the BBB. Rheem said that they would give me a fair market value. This turns out to be about $400 when a new heater cost is about $800--not fair at all. Please do not purchase from Rheem because they do not honor their warranty. I purchased a different brand to replace the defective one. You will get ** when your heater fails. I had to pay an additional $400 for a new heater.

But they requested a voucher or authorization in order to provide me with a water heater replacement. I called Rheem 800 number yet again and the person transferred me to the warranty department which is now closed for business. Im going to be yet without hot water for another weekend. Rheem never responded one way or the other, on a water heater that failed after just two years on a 6 year warranty. During installation we discovered that half of the gas heating unit was missing. Plus, I could not get any of their contractors out for at least another 2-5 days. I called back and spoke with a supervisor who said I could take it back to store and get replacement. I told her I did not have receipt but I did purchase date and product registration. She said that would not be a problem because they have the ability to look that up in their system. The store only prorated the product. I called again and spoke to another supervisor, Mike #**. I told him that the price difference it ended up costing me was $65.42. He said they would not be able to reimburse me because I didnt have original receipt. I told him that the supervisor I talked to previously said it would not cost me anything. Updated 08/16/2021: Six month old RHEEM hot water heater stopped working. I could not get thru to anyone at RHEEM by phone nor their webpage. Their webpage said they had no service workers in my area. So per warranty, I paid a plumbing company to repair it. Warranty says 1 yr., parts and labor. Found them on FaceBook and left a review, finally after several days and messages they called and emailed me paperwork to have filled out. Had to chase down the plumber for a list of parts and labor broken down, their W-9 form, and RHEEM wanted copies of CANCELED check from the bank. Lucky I paid cash! Sent it all in certified return receipt. All sent in 6-30-21. Today is 8-16-21, I have received nothing from them. My post on their FB page have been deleted. Please check their reviews online before purchasing from them, I am NOT the only one with RHEEM problems.Original Review: Bought Rheem 40 gal electric HWH in January 2021, now it is 6 mos and it just stopped working. The breaker is fine, also tried the reset button... Nothing. Ive called 3 phone numbers and tried to contact them thru their useless webpage. What good is a warranty if I cannot contact them for service!

What happened to the Rheem quality that I grew up with. This unit is only 3 years old and began leaking at the base below the lower T-Stat. It caused severe water damage to the interior of my unit. My plumber shared that the quality control on the assembly line is poorly managed. Examples of units that have failed revealed only partial interior glass lining which instantly began rusting and a thinner gauge of metal used to build the tanks.

Purchased model #M061516469, 12-year warranty, 50 gal. unit (Serial XG50T12
Purchased model #M061516469, 12-year warranty, 50 gal. unit (Serial XG50T120DU36U0) on Feb. 17, 2015. In mid August 2016 the unit began making a banging noise. Turns out the burner assembly was failing and the banging were actually mini explosions at burner shut down. Remember this unit had only been in service for 17 months. In Sept. 2016 the burner assembly was replaced, labor and parts were covered under warranty. Fast forward to Feb. 2019. The banging started again. Following Rheems advice to begin warranty replacement of any failing parts a plumber came out to diagnose the problem. For a mere $215 the plumber told us what we already knew, burner assembly failure. This time the cost to diagnose came out of our pockets since the warranty on labor is only 3-years, the warranty on parts is 12-years. The cost to install the new burner assembly was to have been an additional $225, but the plumber was going to give us a discount and only charge us $175. As it turns out installation of the burner assembly would be zero because the part is OBSOLETE! Yes, parts on a four year old 12-year parts warrantied water heater are obsolete. With that said the solution offered by Rheem is a warranty replacement of the entire unit!! We have to remove the old unit, take it to Home Depot, replace it with another Rheem water heater and bring it home. If we want it professionally installed the cost is on us. This just boggled my mind! These heaters are extremely expensive. To have such an expensive unit fail, not once, but twice within four years, then have the company render it obsolete as to require replacement is just beyond me. I hate to think that Ill have another Rheem product in my home that is destined to fail due to obsolete parts before its even close to the end of a 12-year warranty. Rheem should have absorb the cost of professional installation of their expensive parts obsolete four-year old unit. Seems like it would be the right thing for Rheem to do.

The adjustment dial and power switch located at the bottom of the gas water
The adjustment dial and power switch located at the bottom of the gas water heater has no way to prevent a toddler or incidental contact from adjusting the dial. This is a huge red flag for me where it can easily be turned to the max temperature and can lead to burns. I called Rheem to see if they have a cover or anything that can limit access to the controls and was told that this is not a safety concern or a manufacturer defect and there is nothing that they will do to resolve the concern. I assume it is my 18 month old daughter that is playing with the dial, turning it to the maximum temperature setting, but it could as easily be changed by something inadvertently rubbing on the dial. My home was built in the 70s and the water heater is located in the laundry room, not in a dedicated closet, so it does have more open access than newer homes with dedicated utility closets. Regardless, this is currently a significant safety concern for me and my wife.

Rheem sent one new unit out but not enough pipe to install, and then I was informed that I was going to have to tear out part of my finished home to install and they wanted me to install the 1st unit before they replaced the 2nd. What a mess, and thousands to install. Now the head tech at Rheem, Mr. Daniel **, has been dragging this out; hes not returning phones and doing nothing to help me. Hes not even giving me an answer to what they will do. I am so sick of this. So very much money to buy and install at the start and now there is no hot water and more and more costs, all because Rheem 1st tankless system and venting was not right, so you, the homeowner, must figure out how to get hot water in the home where there is no place/room to install, no electric or water or gas lines to change to some other type of heat. Just tear down a new home and pay thousands of dollars to get hot water.

Bought a Rheem tankless hot water heater in Summer 2012. Installed by licensed plumber. Unit froze up in the very cold weather we had this winter, and the copper tubing split. Plumber said he could repair unit, but Rheem wont sell parts. The plumbing supply house where I purchased it told me that they no longer sell Rheem units.Contacted their customer service. Was disconnected after long waits 8 times just as I was at the You are customer number 5 stage before finally getting a woman who gave me a direct number to the tech department which was answered immediately. I was requested to take pictures (inside unit, and outside) and email them, which I did. That was nearly a month ago. I have heard NOTHING back from them, despite two other emails. My next step is contacting the Mississippi State Attorney Generals Office. The unit worked well and saved me over $80.00 a month on my electric bill, but I have now been without hot water for nearly 5 months. Hoping that I can get this thing fixed. Probably will have to buy a new unit and it WILL NOT be a Rheem.

Rheem Gas 50 Gal Hot water Heater - Installed 11/02/2013. In August 2014, pilot light started going out. It would re-light and heater would work for a few days. Then pilot would go out again. Repeated this scenario several times. Called installer who referred me to warranty service man. Fixed at no charge but I was told that it was going to fail again, and while the part would be free, a service charge would apply after 1 year of installation. Service man said it is a design flaw, probably caused by the Closed Heating Chamber and the unit was not getting enough ventilation. Corrosion from carbon monoxide damaged the thermal coupling and would re-occur. Rheem Customer Service offered no advice or help.

This is the 2 Rheem 360 gallon hot water heater model G65-360-1 that has leaked in less than 5 years. The 1st one lasted under 4 years but because Rheem only offers a 4 year warranty from date of manufacture not install we had to fork out $15,000 to have another heater installed Dec 2016. Going with the same model allowed for quick replacement which when your business is closed because of lack of hot water fast is best. Now 14 months later our heater that cost more than a small car is leaking. Rheem comment although they have agreed to replace the heater not sure yet if they are paying the $2000 install fee was that they very seldom have what they call a leaker. When I told them to look up the serial number of the one the new leaker replaced the agent claimed we are not having much luck with their heaters, we would send it back and put in a John Wood but Rheem wont give us a refund. Be aware they have problems. Avoid a Rheem or any of their other products. A Wood heater will last years without problems, ask your plumber before you buy not the experts at the Home Improvement stores. They are going to sell you what they make the most margin on. Not what is going to be the best.

What a horrible company. Will never buy another Rheem water heater again. Our heater control valve went out on our water heater on Thanksgiving day. Eight days later I still have not received the part. I have now been up without hot water since Thanksgiving night. The honorable thing to do would have been to send the part via FedEx overnight instead they sent it FedEx ground and it will not arrive until Monday if at all! Sad! Second warranty on their water heater. First one only lasted 3 years, this one, a year and a half.

I recently purchased a Rheem 40 gallon electric water heater from Home Depot. The day it was installed I waited about 8 hours before trying to use the hot water which was a lot longer than the 2-3 hours recommended by my contractor. Much to my dismay, there was still no hot water! After a second visit from my contractor it was determined the bottom heating element was defective. A call was placed to the 1-800 number on the water heater and here I sit waiting and wondering if a technician will come out to replace the part anytime soon. Very disappointing to have this happen on a brand new water heater.

I purchased a brand new Rheem natural gas tank water heater in October of 2020 and last week we lost hot water. I called Rheem customer service on Thursday and they said we need a new gas valve, itll be delivered in two business days. We go all weekend with no hot water, showering at work and the gym. Monday rolls around and still no part. I call again yesterday and there is no order placed under my name!!! After we get the order squared away I ask if someone is going to come and install this new part and they told me a service contract we had expired in Sept. 2021. I told them since they screwed us and didnt place our order the first time they should come install this for us anyways and they said THEY CANT. Its now the next day, I havent gotten an email that the part has shipped and theres no tracking number. I call once again and they said yup, it hasnt shipped yet and left me hanging. WE ARE GOING ON ONE WEEK OF NO HOT WATER. Im doing you a favor, do not buy Rheem! Theyre so useless and unhelpful and dont care.

Replaced my old water heater three years ago with a six year warranty Rheem water heater. It is leaking profusely from the bottom, damaging a wall and custom wood cabinetry in my kitchen. Quoted $700 dollars, by Home Depot (they did the installation) to remove the faulty water heater and replace it, which Rheem does not cover. Why should someone be charged such exorbitant fees to remove and replace a defective water heater, under warranty?

We had this water heater installed thinking we had gotten the best on the market. However, upon installation, it would not turn on. Found it was a crimped wire when we installed a replacement part they sent us.We have had not real hot water since the installation. Apparently the model XE50T12EC55UO re-positions itself to OFF every time there is power disruption. We live in an area that the energy company has the ability to shut off your hot water tank to save energy as well as have power failures. This means we HAVE to reset our water tank every time or we have no hot water. When we spoke to customer service, we were told that is how the tank works and we should have done our homework before buying the tank - No one expect that from a hot water tank!

We called Rheem on the 20th and they dispatched a plumber to come out on the 21st, he showed up on the 22nd. He started up the unit and said we needed new parts and he would call Rheem to let them know which parts need to be shipped to the house. I called Rheem on Friday the 29th because the unit stopped producing hot water again and the parts were never ordered. Weve been without hot water since Friday the 29th. Hold time to speak to customer service is 40 minutes. Ive been calling everyday 2 to 3 times a day to see if the parts were ordered and still have no answer. Its -6 degrees and Ive been without hot water for 5 full days. Not acceptable! I would never recommend Rheem products to anyone! Similar to some of the stories I have read here, I had the displeasure of owning a Rheem Power Vent water heater. There was trouble from the start. Ive previously spent close to $700 on labor for covered repairs.” Today was the last straw. The blower was gone again! It’s another $350-400 in labor to replace. We told them to yank the Rheem and give us something that would work. Here is the list: a blower (twice), a valve that went bad, and something with the electronic unit all inside of five years! Sure, the part is covered, but I cant afford this piece of junk. Until this water heater, I had owned three others at various homes over 17 years and never once had a repair. Please pass the word about Rheem water heaters. They should be making things right.

We purchased a Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater yesterday and had it installed by a licensed plumber this afternoon. Install went fine. Turned the water on and then the electric on, and waited a bit so the plumber could make sure all was well. All was not well, the water did not heat. Our plumber ran through the typical diagnostics and came to the conclusion the water heater was bad. Yes, it was bad, but the Rheem customer service was worse. This is a brand new water heater and they have said it was 3 different problems and they will send out a part. We wait for the part and then they will send a tech out--so we could be without hot water for more than a week--they could not give a darn. Brand new and this is the customer service you get--please folks, do not buy a Rheem. This story has a happy ending only because Home Depot in Holiday, FL is awesome. They are replacing the thing and going above and beyond for us. THIS is why we only use Home Depot. I purchased a 7 year warranty water heater in 2017 at Home Depot. I installed it (Im a mechanical engineer and have lots of home improvement experience). About 18 months after I purchased it, it started having long recovery times. And after 20 months it quit altogether. A quick troubleshoot indicated that the elements were shot - and that the factory installed lower element had a pinched gasket which was causing a pinhole drip type leak. This obviously was starting the entire lower part of the water heater to start to corrode. I called the folks at Rheem, and they talked me through a complete troubleshoot again - and with my handy volt/ohm meter they determined that not only were the elements bad, but the upper thermostat was too. I mentioned the gasket issue which they brushed aside as a normal operational issue. They promised prompt shipment of the parts.About 10 days later the elements and the thermostat showed up. I drained and pulled them. No surprises - both were burnt through. Im pretty shocked - Ive never seen this ever before! EVER. And Im 54... I replaced the parts and figured that Id be good for a bunch more years (before this experience I was used to water heaters lasting 12 to 20 years!!). Imagine my surprise to hear a sound come from my water heater that sounded like my Arc Welder turned all the way up and welding 1/2 plate steel! The sound stopped after about 30 seconds and sure enough: no hot water. Didnt pop the breaker either. Removing the upper and lower thermostat, I discovered significant corrosion in the lower one (probably due to the leak - I checked mine after install several times and no leak - but I used a bit of food grade silicone grease on my install to prevent kinking, just like on a oil filter of a car) was corroded. A bench test of the upper confirmed that it was dead too. And, to make it a trifecta, the lower element showed infinite resistance (burn out). The upper showed 14 ohms so I left it in place. I drained the heater and removed the lower element to find that yes, it was burned thru. Cheap junk, just like the thermostats. At this time Im real unhappy with Rheem. I suspect a serious supply chain problem with shoddy parts may be to blame, but I am concerned about the manufacturing quality as well because of the gasket. Im a bit concerned that maybe the steel (which shows surface corrosion already!!) may be substandard and have rot starting. Or inferior welding... or.... Im thinking that even though I spent $850 for this junker, its time for a new one. I live 40 miles out in the country and dont want my house burning down due to an arcing heater - or someone getting electrocuted.

Rheem support argued with me about the electrician did not do the right testing but yet they are sending me a upper thermostat anyway, the support person did nothing to help the customer and I called back and it got worse from there. The other customer service person argued with me that the power was wrong and the unit was hooked up wrong but yet the unit worked fine for the first 7 month I have had it.I had this unit installed by a professional plumber company that does these all day long and I was surprised he could tell how it was hooked up from his chair at his house WOW!!! To my understanding GE and Rheem are no longer affiliated so the warranty becomes pro-rated. Therefore the 12 year warranty we thought we were getting is no longer good. I called the 800 number on the water heater and talked to 3 different people. 2 were very rude. The last lady I spoke to gave me an address to write a letter and complain. 16 year old water heat started leaking. I replaced it with a Rheem 50 gallon Power Vent Propane Water Heater. After 3 weeks it would only heat water to luke warm (tepid) then shut down. I read the bad reviews on this website and thought I made a big mistake. I bought it a Home Depot and had to drive 70 miles to pick it up. The Energy Dept created new standards effective April 2015 and there were only 2 in Southwest Ohio. Cant go without hot water very long (spoiled Americans). With all the bad reviews, why would HD carry this product?I called Rheem customer service and MY experience was the OPPOSITE of everything posted on this site. All were most helpful to troubleshoot. Sent a new pressure switch. I changed it and that didnt fix it. I am a very good DIY person. There arent that many parts to a water heater but a Power Vent heater is a little more complicated. I think I ended up (ultimately) speaking to 5 customer service people. The last was a guy that only advised on Power Vent models. He asked about the baffle in the middle under the Power Vent. I was sticking out about 1 inch but looked normal to me as I didnt know what was normal/abnormal. Apparently during the drive from Columbus to Cincinnati it worked itself out (it should be flush with the shoulder). I asked if I could set on its side during transit and the HD person said yes as long as I didnt set it on the side with the controls. Made sense but the baffle vibrated out a bit. The fuel/air ratio was confused. Anyway the last guy told me to push this baffle down. It was firm. I put a piece of wood on it and gave it a quick bang and it went down flush!!! I powered it up and it now produces scalding water. Hot setting is plenty. You do not need VERY HOT. You will get burned. To summarize, I wanted to counter all the bad reviews about Rheem water heaters and let others know they WILL help you and send a part/technician right away if necessary. Working perfectly now.

I called the Rheem number listed on the side of the water heater and got a call center where I was placed on hold and then no one ever returned. The second attempt to call resulted in being transferred to a technician who never answered. The third attempt: I was told to dig out insulation from the top of the heater to find where it was leaking and repair it myself. I was also told to go out and buy a plug that was missing from the top of the unit. The fourth attempt: I was told to check the water pressure! We purchased A Rheem Water Heater, model #6G40-36F3 at Menards. My husband installed it and as he tried to light it the ignitor would not work 90% of the tries. Called the phone number for Rheem in a big sticker on the side of the heater. It says not to return to the store to call them for assistance. It said they were not available even though according to the sticker on it they are available 7 days a week. We looked up some other numbers and tried to contact them but no one available. Finally my husband got someone on a number that we found after a couple of hours of frustration. She agreed that the ignitor was bad and was sending us a new one. It would take 3-4 business days and this was on Saturday. The ignitor arrived on Wednesday and was an easy install. This episode was more time consuming and frustrating than necessary. If you have a big red sticker on the side of the water heater saying not to return to the store but call Rheem then you should make sure that phone number is actually answered by someone. When I brought this frustrating experience to Rheems attention they requested that I call them. When I called I was placed in a queue that said it would be about 20 minutes. I emailed them and said I was not willing to sit waiting approximately 20 minutes for them to take my call and told them to call me which was almost a month ago. Very poor customer service. Be aware when you purchase that they may not be available to help if there is a problem.

Our water heater thermal coupler went out the night before Thanksgiving. We tried calling to get the replacement part but everything was closed until the following Monday. We called the tech support and the customer service said that he has been doing his job for so many years and it was not the thermal coupler and said it was the gas control unit. We took his word since he said he was the expert. We paid to have it expedited for next day. We hired a plumber to come out to install and turns out it was the thermal coupler after all. I paid for the plumber for the service call. I called Rheem and after over an hour waiting was finally able to talk to the manager and he agreed to refund the expedited delivery charge. Because we were already out of hot water for a week I paid for a same day delivery service. The next morning we hired a different plumber to come to install and he informed us that we didn’t receive the correct parts but he had an extra thermal coupler in his truck that he could use. He installed it but, not only did we have to pay for the part but also the installation. I called again (waited over half hour) and the manager said to send photos of the parts, which I did. He sent an email for me to call to discuss.Again, waited on the line only to be put through to someone else, went through the whole story again only for them to tell me I had to speak to another manager. Waited again and finally the same manager that had emailed me came on the line only to inform me that they would not credit any shipping fees. I offered to compromise and pay for the same day service but he refused, was condescending and not willing to help at all. I highly recommend you stay away from any RHEEM water heater products. Both plumbers that came said that they are the worst to deal with.

We have a small space under our house for an electric water heater. We dont have much of a choice. We bought a Rheem 2 years ago, and have to replace because it was leaking out of the seams. We got a new one home, and opened the box. The bottom of the heater was all bent. Had to take it back. Waiting for the replacement, as I type. I told the husband to have them open the box at Home Depot, before he brings it home. Next years investment will be to replumb for an outside or garage heater. I am putting a curse on the people who built this house, and am beating myself up, again, for buying the place.

Bought a 40 gallon Rheem water heater and installed, couldnt get it to work. Called the gas company thinking it was a problem with our gas. Not the issue. Called Rheem and they sent a part (that wasnt the issue either). Called them again to exchange the water heater and they said no, that if it was giving a code it could be fixed. In the meantime we were having to go to family homes to take showers. They gave us a reset code to try to reset it. It worked for 4 hours then went out again. Tried to reset it again with code and the damn heater blew up 6 inches from my husbands face. Lucky he was not injured. Called customer service, very pissed and they told my husband they would disconnect the call if he didnt settle down, didnt even ask if he was OK.. Finally got sent to claims. After 10 days of having this thing we are getting q code to exchange... Not Happy!!!

My original water heater gave out and went to Home Depot for a new one. I came across Rheems water heaters, fairly cheap compared to others, 6yr parts warranty, 1yr labor, easy to install so it seemed like the best choice at the time. Over a year later, heater gave out, called customer service and they were not helpful. They want to replace every single component before they even consider the thought of having to replace the heater meanwhile Im left without hot water for days/weeks. After days of arguing with customer service, I finally asked to speak to a supervisor (Kelly, ID#**) 1866-279-4566 and she was even worst. I still havent resolve this issue, will probably cut my losses and buy a new, better heater, definitely NOT a Rheem heater.. Dont cut corners people, spend the money, dont go Rheems because you will deal with the pain down the line.

I purchased the biggest, best tankless hot water tank Rheem makes. After two years it starting leaking like a sieve, so I took it back to Home Depot where I bought it and they replaced it. Two years later same issue, same problem, but this time it quit totally. Efficiency is nice but the aggravation every two years is not worth it. Stay away from this junk!
