Product Reviews:

Glad to have found this thread. We had a 40 gallon hot water heater installed 4 years ago, and it completely failed over the Thanksgiving Weekend, leaking all over the basement. Found someone to replace it on Friday, but they used Rudd, which is probably better. Trying to get a refund since it was still under warranty and I just reached out to the consumer affairs office at Rudd. I will post an update with their response, but I hope they will issue a refund for their defective product. Not to mention the water damage in the basement.

I purchased a Rheem Paloma tankless water heater in November 2012. The unit had a bent exhaust pipe right out of the box. The seller sent a replacement and I contracted with a plumbing company to install the unit. Additional parts were required just to adhere to basic code requirements. The unit oozed an oily substance and the power quit halfway through a cycle (fun times when taking a shower). They said to send the fail code and I have not heard anything back for more than 10 days (I had included photos also). The unit also emitted an oily substance that beaded up and so now I'm reluctant to use it at all. Not having a potable water source in a suburban home is a real downer. I'm taking water samples to the County Water Health Department tomorrow to see what substance is in the water. The installer I hired has now passed on doing anything further, left the job, cleaned up his mess and waived his installation fee for fear that he might be linked to this product. Rheem has admitted that the unit is not in production and out of warranty. It's another reason to never buy things like this on eBay. Based on the other posts on this site, Rheem is displaying behavior that needs to be well publicized to avoid rewarding this kind of corporate behavior to those of us in the consuming public. Rheem has a list of other tankless units posted that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and mine does not yet fall within that list.

I purchased a new water heater from Rheem and had it installed. I never got hot water and it took almost 2 weeks for Rheem to give me a new one. Customer Service was horrific and the most incompetent people I have ever had to deal with. I spoke with them and told them that my water heater has never worked and they shipped out part after part and finally gave me a new one. My family was in a new place and had no hot water for almost 2 weeks!! There was nothing but an, "Oops, I'm sorry." from Rheem. I have never been so dissatisfied and so infuriated at a company before in my life! I will never buy anything from Rheem again. I suggest everyone save their money and buy from anyone but Rheem!!

My 40 gallon gas Rheem water heater was only 3 yrs old and the bottom of the tank gave out filling up the catch pan and dumping water all over the ground. Attempted calling Rheem for help, what an awful experience that turned out to be. Sure wish I had done some homework up front before purchasing. Home Depot, shame on you for selling/pushing this junk for sale. Folks, Do Not purchase a Rheem. The product is junk and the customer service is non-existent.

Our home is a Trendmaker Home built in 2011, and we have 2 American Water Heaters that came with the house. They repeatedly ceased to operate intermittently (one and then the other, constantly trying to re-light the pilot). Then they would not light at all, and I called the customer warranty line and new parts were sent. $800 worth of plumbing bills later, the same thing occurred again, only this time the valve on the controller leaked out of the drain pan and through the ceiling, causing $500 in water damage to my home. We replaced both water heaters with new Bradford White Corp. water heaters, and they have been working great. I would not recommend anyone using the American Water Heater brand.

On 12/27/2013 I bought a Whirlpool hot water heater from Lowe's Model NU50T122-403. On 12-13-2015 the pilot went out. When I called tech support on 12-14-2015 they gave number what were call centers or person who returned the calls. So I called a local plumber that I used before. He came out and told me that had to replace the pilot. On the 16th 2015 of Dec. that did not work and told us the heater needed to be replaced. The replacement will happen today I hope with little to no help from Whirlpool. I would advise you to do your homework before you buy a Whirlpool hot water heater.

Hi there, I am a home builder by the name of Ivaan Interiors in Winnipeg, Canada and I bought a 60-gallon HWT from Home Depot last month Dec 2021 for my new house to sell. The hot water tank was installed on-site by a licensed plumber and electrician. The electrician found that it's not heating and consuming double Amperes as compared to it and tripping the circuit breaker. The electrician double-checked all the wiring but it didn't work and mentioned that there is some problem inside. We called customer service and they said, "We can send parts," and we have to get it repaired at our end. THIS IS RIDICULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE. How can we repair and why should we spend another hundred bucks to get it repaired. We didn't buy this brand new product to take the pain to repair. The buyer is taking possession next month. I want it to be repaired or replaced asap. I would appreciate if this matter is taken seriously and solved immediately. Manish

Whirlpool water heater FG1F5040T3NOV - I noticed that when I was taking a shower, my hot water wasn't working. I went downstairs and the pilot light on my water heater wasn't on. I tried to restart it. The pilot light wouldn't work or relight. I gave up and contacted a plumber. I don't feel I should have to pay for a plumber when it's a product flaw!

I had two new gas hot water heaters installed Friday. They have tanks. They are so loud when heating the water and this is so annoying and bothersome. It sounds like an airplane. The two that I had for 15 years were quiet and I was not aware when they were refilling or heating water. I am going to call the company who installed them and ask them to replace. I definitely do not want to have them come in and make a mess in my home. This is simply not acceptable in an era of quiet appliance manufacturing. Newer should be quieter. Is this typical of your products?

Hot water heater pilot light problem. I purchased a hot water heater on October 21, 2015 and on January 14 no hot water! I was told to call our local gas provider PG&E. The service technician for Pacific Gas & Electric arrived at my house Saturday, January 16 and stated that the water heater was no longer good. I then on the same day went to Home Depot with my receipt and the statement from Pacific Gas and Electric. I was then told that they would not take it back. A Home Depot employee told me I would have to call the manufacturer and gave me the phone number. The employee from Home Depot stated that the manufacturer would have to give Home Depot permission to accept the defaulted product. On January 20, 2016, I called the manufacturer and described to him what had happened and read the Pacific Gas & Electric statement to him and he said that they would not allow Home Depot to take it back and exchange it. The employee that I spoke to you from the manufacturer stated that he could mail me some parts or something. I then told him that as a consumer and from what my statement from my local gas company states the product is defaulted.
