How to use a new microwave the right away?
Posted On: October 4, 2021

When shopping around for a microwave, over the stove, or tabletop, there are a few types to choose from. Once you've selected the style that suits your kitchen needs, it's time to take it home and unbox it.

After unboxing your new microwave, there are a few things you need to know before using it for the first time.

The first thing you want to do is clean the inside of your microwave by placing a microwave-safe bowl of water with lemon juice and set it on high. After the cycle has been completed, wipe out the condensation with a cloth.

After cleaning the microwave, place another bowl of water inside and run for ten minutes to allow any build-up of particles to burn off so that no plastic smells or tastes end up in your food.

When using your microwave for the first time, you may notice a slight electrical odor, but this is perfectly normal before you start to panic. The smell comes from the electrical circuit board heating up for the first time.

If the smell continues, you can get rid of it by heating a bowl of vinegar and water for two minutes and let it sit for fifteen minutes before wiping it away.

So what do you do with that old microwave?

Microwaves and other appliances and electronics contain materials that can be harmful to the environment if not properly disposed of. You could also face hefty environmental fines if you throw it away in the trash.

Well, if it's still in working condition after you've cleaned it up, you can donate it to a local charity or sell it. But if it's not working, you will need to dispose of it properly.

You can dispose of any appliances by contacting your local waste management facility to arrange a pickup time or find a location where you can drop of appliances and electronics.

Some retailers and manufacturers may even participate in take-back programs.
