In a statement, Hyesoon Yang, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience of the Digital Appliances Business, said the company was developing “Collaborations to combat microplastic pollution; helping consumers reduce their energy consumption; cutting back on waste by using recycled plastic; and adapting eco-conscious packaging”.

One of these collaborations is with Patagonia, an American clothing company known for its commitment to green initiatives. The companies will work together to reduce the impact of microplastics, especially in the ocean. Another collaboration is with Q Cells, who will work with Samsung to produce a Zero Energy Home Integration feature for the company’s SmartThings Energy service. 

Samsung has also announced that it will increase the amount of recycled plastic that is used to make household appliances. Samsung products will start to feature recycled plastic on the interior and exterior of their models. The company has made its aim for recycled plastic use in its home appliances from 5% in 2021 to 30% in 2024. Samsung has also announced its intention to use more eco-packaging for products such as microwave ovens and vacuum cleaners.
