Broken GE Cooktop Help
So about 2 months ago, I had an unfortunate accident that broke my glass cooktop on my GE Profile gas cooktop.
It's in an island and really not repairable as there are lots of spider cracks and an inch hole.
I had a large retailer out to assess and measure for a new one.
I was told that basically I had one option for a gas cooktop without modification and induction/electric aren't even an option as it's not the proper voltage.
I cannot get new glass as it's not a style made anymore.
So I finally landed on one.
The installers (contractors of the big retailer) come out today and wouldn't install because no downdraft.
The rep I've worked with gave me lots of incorrect info and I was under the impression it had a telescopic downdraft.
It doesn't.
Anyway, it went back to the store and now I'm back to square one.
Now they're telling me I have to spend another $2,000 to get what I need, on top of the $1200 I already spent.
And it will require cutting my granite.
I'm stressed.
All this to say, I was hoping someone knew of a place where I might find a replacement of the glass for GE Profile JGP989BK2BB even though it's no longer produced.
I'm desperate.
Also meant to add that the rep no longer works there as of last week.
So I feel stuck in how to proceed.
Question from user aRachStar at Appliances at reddit.
Answer:
I'm sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident and the issues you've been experiencing with finding a suitable replacement for your broken GE Profile gas cooktop.
Unfortunately, since the glass for your model is no longer produced, it may be difficult to find a replacement glass cooktop.
However, you could try contacting GE customer service or a GE authorized dealer to see if they have any suggestions or solutions for you.
You may also want to try searching for parts on websites such as eBay or Amazon.
Regarding your current situation, it's understandable that you feel stressed and frustrated.
Since the rep you were working with is no longer employed there, you may want to reach out to the retailer's customer service department to explain your situation and see if they can help you find a solution.
Be sure to explain the misinformation you received and the additional expenses you've incurred as a result.
It's important to communicate your concerns and needs clearly to the retailer to ensure they understand your situation and can work with you to find a satisfactory resolution.
Best of luck to you in finding a suitable replacement for your cooktop.
