Air Conditioner Repair

Comfortmaker manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Comfortmaker appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

Contactor
The furnace control board sends a low voltage signal to the contactor. When the contactor receives the signal from the control board, it closes the circuit, sending voltage to the condensing unit components. If the contactor is defective, it will not provide voltage to the condensing unit. To determine if the contactor is at fault, use a multimeter to test the contactor for continuity. If the contactor does not have continuity, replace it.

Dual Run Capacitor
If the dual run capacitor is defective, the fan motor might be noisy, overheat, or not run at all. To determine if the dual run capacitor has failed, inspect the capacitor. If the dual run capacitor is bulging or leaking, replace it.

Incoming Power Problem
The central air condensing unit is energized with 240 volts of electricity. The electricity flows through a disconnect box to the compressor and condenser fan motor. The disconnect box enables the air conditioning unit to be turned off outside. The disconnect box includes a cartridge which may contain fuses. If the compressor and condenser fan motor do not run, the disconnect box fuses may have blown, or the circuit breaker that supplies power to the disconnect box may have tripped. To determine if the disconnect box fuses have blown, use a multimeter to test the fuses for continuity. If the disconnect box fuses do not have continuity replace them.

Capacitor
If the capacitor is defective, the fan motor might be noisy, overheat, or not run at all. To determine if the capacitor has failed, inspect the capacitor. If the capacitor is bulging or leaking, replace it.

Condenser Fan Motor
To determine if the condenser motor is working, use a multimeter to test the incoming voltage to the motor. If the condenser fan motor is receiving the correct voltage but the motor still won’t run, inspect the capacitor to ensure that it is not at fault. If the capacitor is not bulging or leaking, replace the condenser fan motor.

Run Capacitor
If the run capacitor is defective, the fan motor might be noisy, overheat, or not run at all. To determine if the run capacitor has failed, inspect the capacitor. If the run capacitor is bulging or leaking, replace it.

Compressor
The compressor is a pump which compresses the refrigerant and circulates the refrigerant through the evaporator and condenser coils. If the compressor is not working, the central air conditioner won’t cool. However, this isn’t usually the case. Before replacing the compressor, first check all of the more commonly defective components. If all of the other components are working properly, use a multimeter to test the compressor for continuity. If there is an open circuit, the compressor is likely defective. If the compressor is defective, it must be replaced by a licensed technician.

Furnace Repair

Comfortmaker manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Comfortmaker appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

Comfortmaker Furnace not heating
The igniter gets very hot and glows bright orange to light the gas burner. If the igniter fails or cracks, the furnace won’t heat. To determine if the igniter is faulty, remove the igniter and inspect it for cracks. If the igniter is cracked, replace it. If the igniter is not cracked, use a multimeter to test the igniter for continuity. If the igniter does not have continuity, replace it.

Comfortmaker Furnace is noisy or loud
The blower wheel blows air out of the furnace and through the house. The blower wheel is attached to the blower motor shaft with a set screw. If the set screw is loose, the blower wheel will wobble on the motor shaft, and the wheel will be noisy as it turns. Check the set screw to ensure that it is properly tightened. Next, inspect the wheel for damage. If the blower wheel is damaged, replace it.

Comfortmaker Furnace starts then stops
The flame sensor monitors the burner to detect whether or not a flame is present. If the flame sensor is defective, it might fail to detect a flame. If the flame sensor does not detect a flame, the control board will shut off voltage to the gas valve to prevent the furnace from heating. Sometimes, if the flame sensor is dirty, it will fail to detect a flame. Try cleaning the flame sensor with a fine abrasive pad. If the furnace still doesn’t heat, replace the flame sensor.

Comfortmaker Furnace blower not running
The blower motor blows air through the return vent, past the heat exchanger, and into the home’s venting. First, make sure that power is getting to the motor. If power is getting to the blower motor, but the motor does not run, the motor may be burned out. If the blower motor is burned out, replace it. If the blower motor hums, check the blower fan to ensure that it spins freely. If the blower fan is unobstructed but does not spin freely, replace the blower motor.

Comfortmaker Furnace blower runs all the time
The control board has relays that regulate the voltage to each component in the furnace. If the relay that controls the blower motor fails while it is closed, it will send continuous voltage to the blower motor, causing the motor to run continuously. If the control board is at fault, replace it.

Heat Pump Repair

If your heat pump is not working properly, here are some basic checks you can perform before contacting a professional HVAC technician:

Power supply: Ensure that the heat pump is receiving power. Check the circuit breaker to see if it has tripped. If it has, reset it and see if the heat pump starts working. Also, make sure the heat pump is properly plugged in.

Thermostat settings: Check the thermostat to ensure it is set to the desired temperature and operating mode (cooling, heating, or auto). Verify that the fan is set to the correct mode (auto or on) and that the system is not in a temporary hold or vacation mode.

Air filters: Check and clean or replace the air filters if they are dirty or clogged. Dirty filters can restrict airflow and affect the performance of the heat pump.

Outdoor unit: Inspect the outdoor unit for any visible signs of damage, such as bent fins, debris accumulation, or ice buildup. Clear away any debris and ensure proper airflow around the unit.

Indoor unit: Check the indoor unit for any obvious issues, such as strange noises or unusual odors. Listen for any abnormal sounds coming from the blower motor or other components.

Check the breakers and switches: Make sure all switches related to the heat pump, including the main breaker, disconnect switch, and any auxiliary switches, are in the "on" position.

Temperature differential: If the heat pump is running but not providing sufficient heating or cooling, check the temperature differential. Measure the temperature of the air entering the return vent and the temperature of the air exiting the supply vents. There should be a noticeable temperature difference.

Error codes: If your heat pump has a display or error code system, take note of any error codes that are being displayed. Refer to the manufacturer's documentation or contact a professional technician to interpret the error codes accurately.

If these basic checks do not resolve the issue or if you are unsure about performing any of these steps, it is recommended to contact a licensed HVAC technician. They have the expertise and specialized tools to diagnose and repair heat pump problems effectively and safely.

Very very surprised on this system. I had this system installed form a neighborhood contractor I was very skeptical on this system do to I never heard of it. After going through everything with and all the other quotes I ended up having this installed. This system is very quite and helped my energy bills. I have had no issues with this furnace it was installed 1/15/2015. I dont write many reviews but waited 3 years on this review because I wanted to make sure I got something quality. But like my installing company said as long as it is installed correctly I wont have problems with it. Highly recommend it and their ac systems.

The Tempstar TVA9 and Comfortmaker CVA9 have variable-capacity compressors
The Tempstar TVA9 and Comfortmaker CVA9 have variable-capacity compressors with 5 levels of operation. These are also called variable-speed compressors, since the compressor uses rotary technology and speeds up to deliver more air conditioning or slows down for less. Variable-speed models from most other brands have “infinite” levels of operation between 40% and 100% capacity. You’ll notice little difference in cooling consistency with a 5-speed vs. an infinite-speed model, and the cost of these units is slightly less.

A Comfortmaster RPJ II furnace was installed in my house on January 3, 1996. What I like about this furnace is that it has performed flawlessly since I moved into this house in 2009. The only maintenance that has been required is that I change the filters. It was repaired on December 1, 2005 by the previous owner of this house, my father. He kept meticulous records of such things. This house was built in 1955. I am not aware of the make of the previous furnace. I don't know the exact cause of the 2005 malfunction, but the repair went well. I haven't had any problems since I bought the house in 2013. I am part of my gas company's emergency repair insurance program, so I feel confident that I will always have a working furnace. I would recommend the Comfortmaster RPJ II furnace to a friend if they asked me. I am not an expert, but this furnace is reliable.

This is one of the brands from INTERNATIONAL COMFORT PRODUCTS which is a part of UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORP. The PERFORMANCE 14 (N4A5) units are basic air conditioners with a durable powder coat finish but they use a wire coil guard to protect the condenser coil fins which does not actually do much to protect them. The units have a 14 SEER efficiency to meet all of the regional standards but their guarantee is not very good when compared to other brands. The SOFTSOUND DELUXE 19 (CCA9) is a premium unit with a variable speed fan motor, swept wing fan blade, and compressor blanket for quiet operation. They have a good guarantee but it is only average when compared to other brands. The units are sold in the USA and Canada but only through their approved dealer network. comfortmaker.com

After getting many different quotes from several different companies in my search to replace my 17 year old system, I finally decided to go with the Comfortmaker brand. Its been two years now, and I couldn't be happier! I went with the variable speed/inverter option for my home. In my search, I read countless reviews from all the top brands out there.. I realized in my search more people will leave a "bad" review rather than a "good" one. Its like when you go out to eat, and have a horrible experience. The first thing you want to do when you get home, is leave a bad review. Same thing applies here. This system pulls so much moisture out of the air! I can leave my thermostat at 77 degrees and 52% humidity and it feels amazing, and that's here in Houston, Texas. The house feels crisp/clean/enjoyable to be in, its a hard feeling to describe, but I'm very happy I went with Comfortmaker brand and the Variable speed full system. If you can afford to go this route, I definitely recommend this option, you'll be amazed and won't regret it at all!

Homeowners looking to purchase a ComfortMaker AC unit have a large selection to choose from. Though there are many factors to consider, purchasers should especially focus on an AC unit’s seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) and/or energy efficiency ratio (EER), depending on the home climate. SEER ratings range from 8-21 and are specific to the cooling power, whereas EER ratings relate to the overall efficiency of the unit. In both cases, the higher numbers mean increased efficiency.
