Freezer stopped working Seems like fan is the issue
Our freezer (Blomberg model) has stopped working.
We have had this issue in the past and paid $400 for someone to come and defrost it.
Don't want to do that again.
It looks like the fan has stopped working because the blades are hitting the sheet placed in front of it.
Any idea how to resolve this?
Question from user rbj1998 at Appliances at reddit.
Answer:
Usually I would advise to either eat as much food as possible or move it to another freezer you may have or ask a neighbour to hold onto your items then disconnect the machine and leave the doors open to allow the machine to defrost for at least 12 - 24 hours depending on your ambient temperature.
If you live in a warmer climate the defrost process should take less time.
Also remove the draws in the base of both fridge and freezer if you have a model like that and put towels in the base to prevent water leaking on your floor.
After this time I would pull the machine out of its position and check the evap tray.
If it's full of water I would advise to remove it as if it's full and there is excess water in the syphon tube the compressor won't be able to evaporate the water in the tray and when the compressor kicks in it will freezer the water again.
Once the evap tray is clear check the run off, usually they have a rubber bung which is common to block up.
Remove it and clean it and use a pipe cleaner to rod up into the run off to check for any further blockages.
After that turn the machine back on and check the fan is operating correctly.
If the fan motor has failed or the motor has seized they are pretty cheap to get online and if you intend to replace yourself I would recommend it when it's still defrosted so the cold doesn't cause the plastic to go brittle.
