Goodman Heat Pump Troubleshooting

If you're looking for help fixing your Goodman Heat Pump, look no further! Our comprehensive Goodman Heat Pump Troubleshooting guide will explain common issues, provide tips, and show you how to read your model's error codes.

When troubleshooting a Goodman heat pump, it's important to follow proper safety precautions and, if you're unsure or uncomfortable, contact a qualified HVAC technician for assistance. Here are some general troubleshooting steps you can take for common issues with Goodman heat pumps:

Check Power Supply: Ensure that the heat pump is receiving power. Check the circuit breaker or fuse box to see if a breaker has tripped or a fuse has blown. Reset the breaker or replace the fuse if necessary. Also, check that the heat pump's disconnect switch is in the "ON" position.

Check Thermostat Settings: Make sure the thermostat is set to the appropriate temperature and mode (heating or cooling). Verify that the fan is set to "Auto" or "On" depending on your preference.

Check Air Filters: Dirty air filters can restrict airflow and affect the heat pump's performance. Check and clean or replace the air filters if they are dirty or clogged.

Check Air Vents and Registers: Ensure that all air vents and registers in your home are open and unobstructed. Blocked vents can impede airflow and reduce the heat pump's efficiency.

Check Outdoor Unit: Inspect the outdoor unit for any debris, such as leaves, dirt, or debris obstructing the airflow. Clear away any obstructions and ensure that the unit is not covered or blocked.

Check Refrigerant Levels: Low refrigerant levels can affect the heat pump's cooling or heating capacity. If you suspect a refrigerant issue, it's best to contact a professional HVAC technician to check and recharge the system if necessary.

Check for Unusual Noises or Smells: Pay attention to any unusual noises or smells coming from the heat pump. Grinding or squealing noises, as well as burning odors, could indicate mechanical or electrical issues that require professional attention.

Consult the Manual: Refer to the manufacturer's manual or documentation for specific troubleshooting steps and error codes for your Goodman heat pump model.

Remember, these are general troubleshooting steps, and the specific issues with your heat pump may require professional diagnosis and repair. It's always best to consult a qualified HVAC technician if you're uncertain or unable to resolve the problem on your own.

I am very frustrated right now. My American Standard unit that had been working great for 17yrs finally died 3 yrs ago. It was replaced by a Goodman AC unit and heat pump. My HVAC guy said they were a good system so I trusted him. Now 3 yrs later the heat pump is not working and have to keep the gas furnace on emergency heat. I have contacted goodman with no help of a tech person to come out and check what is going on. It's still under warranty but I do not want to pay for a service call when the unit is only 3 yrs old.

Had a Goodman GSZ14 Heat Pump and Air Handler system installed in my house.
Had a Goodman GSZ14 Heat Pump and Air Handler system installed in my house. The units ran trouble free for about four years. Last week the house lights would randomly flicker, yesterday the Heat Pump stopped working. The repairman found that a wiring bundle was ty-wrapped to a coolant line and the vibration of the system wore through the wire insulation and shorted out on the coolant line and arced a hole in that line causing the coolant to escape and shut down the unit. The wire was on a high voltage circuit so every time it shorted out, our house lights would flicker.

Our house had a Lennox heat pump system that came with a new house made in
Our house had a Lennox heat pump system that came with a new house made in 2006. It nearly broke me financially with repairs and the straw broke when my family was on the cold side during last winter. I called Recker and Boerger this year and they gave us a bid on a brand-new GOODMAN 16 SEER 4-ton unit armed with a scroll compressor, matching variable air handler, 5-year parts and labor warranty on the entire unit, 10-year parts after the 5 years is up, and a LIFETIME scroll compressor replacement guarantee in the event that the compressor fails for any reason--providing it stays at the same house it was installed in. I explained in great detail to the R&B salesman that my family had been through hell with winter and repair costs and we really needed some good service.

Bought 2d Goodman system after a.c. failed, have a regular a.c. also goodman. The heat pump has not functioned properly since install. Very erratic operation. It is a waste of electricity even though was sold as an energy saver. Runs for 20 to 30 min and never gets above 75 output. This is with 70 room temp and 70 set on thermostat. Has had circuit board replaced and installer came in and rebuilt duct system. I am so frustrated especially after paying a premium price. Thinking about having it removed even if only 7 months old if I could find someone to give me half what I paid for it. It sucks.

I bought a Goodman heat pump model GsZ160361bd, serial no 1903096018 brand
I bought a Goodman heat pump model GsZ160361bd, serial no 1903096018 brand new and had it installed by a “license technician“. The unit broke in less than 18 months and required repairs that cost me approximately $1600 in labor. The part were covered by the manufacturer. But no customer should have to spend that much money on a heat pump that was purchased new. I believe Goodman Manufacturing has junk heat pumps and I recommend anyone looking to buy a new unit to look at the other manufacturer. Also make sure it is a sister brand name to Goodman. The customer support is of no use to the customer who purchased their product. All you get is scripted reply to call a license contract to fix their junk product! At your own cost! This is a real experience. Do not buy!
