How long do pool heaters last
Posted On: December 6, 2021

The best way to ensure a comfortable swim is to purchase a pool heater for your pool, and depending on where you live, you will probably use it a lot. Pool heaters can last anywhere from six to twelve years. Many factors contribute to the life span of the pool heater, and they include.

  1. Pool water: The water in your pool can affect your heater. If the chemistry is not balanced, it can affect water flow through the heater. Too much or too little acid can cause erosion, and too much calcium will decrease water flow. The best way to ensure balanced chemistry is to conduct a weekly water test and adjust your added chemicals.
  2. Power: If your pool heater has experienced several power outages, these surges could affect the lifespan of your heater.
  3. Maintenance: Like any other major appliance, pool heaters require regular maintenance to last their expected lifespan. It's recommended that you schedule maintenance at least once a year. During this routine, the pool heater will be inspected, cleaned, and lubricated. It will also be safety checked. All of this should be done by a professional.

Different types of pool heaters last longer than others. The most common types of heaters are gas, electric and solar. A gas heater can last five years and is best suited for smaller pools or hot tubs. Electric heaters last about ten years, and solar heaters can last up to twenty years and require less maintenance than other heater types.

If you're not planning on using your pool for a long time, it's best to turn it off. Not only will it save on energy costs, but it also gives the heater a bit of a break. And for those living in colder climates, remember to make sure that it has been appropriately winterized before the cold weather hits.

You should also consider purchasing a solar pool cover to prevent the heat from escaping and free the pool from falling leaves and other debris.

Talk to a swim and spa expert if you're not sure what type of pool heater will work best for your area. They can help you decide whether gas, solar or electric is best for your pool.
