John Wood Appliance Troubleshooting
For over 50 years, their water heaters have been providing hot water to homes and businesses.
Water Heater Troubleshooting
Insufficient Hot Water
1. Thermostat set too low. Turn temperature knob to higher setting.
2. Leaking faucets/Wasted hot water. Repair faucets.
3. Wrong piping connections. Correct piping: dip tube must be in cold inlet.
4. Water heater too small. Install adequate heater.
5. Sediment or lime in tank. Drain/flush-provide water treatment if needed.
6. Long runs of exposed piping. Insulate piping.
7. Hot-water piping in outside wall. Insulate piping.
Water Is Too Hot

4. Improperly seated valve. Check Relief valve for proper operation (Do Not plug T&P valve).
Smelly Water
1. Sulfides in water supply.
2. Bacteria in water supply.
3. Incompatible anode. Replace with anode appropriate for water conditions.

John Wood appliance difficulty
just installed a couple of weeks ago, everything seems to be working great. I started on the high setting but it was to hot so now it's set on low which it great, way more efficient that my 20 yr old one. When you light the pilot the first time you need to look upwards through the glass window to see that it's lit.
John Wood manufacturer is a Canadian company that is a subsidiary of GSW, acquired by AO Smith in 2006. It offers a wide variety of water heaters for any household, budget, installation requirements and house type, and is sold mainly in Canada. If looking for an affordable unit which comes with average energy efficiency, you can get one for a few hundred dollars. If you want the top of the line model, condensing tankless is what you should go for, or if you prefer traditional, tank-type Polaris or Envirosense is the right pick, but be ready to pay for the quality.
Great product bought this for my rental property and it’s very efficient and tenant is very happy with the product Would recommend it
Direct replacement for my original…which lasted 29 years. The installation instructions leave a bit to be desired...
Works as it should no issues ar all. I made the right choice
