McQuay Appliance Troubleshooting
McQuay International, also known as Daikin Applied in the United States, offers air conditioning, heating, ventilating and refrigeration units. McQuay International is headquartered in Hong Kong, with U.S. headquarters in Minneapolis, MN. The company is owned by Daikin, a fortune 1000 company. Daikin reported revenue of approximately $18.4 billion USD in 2017.
Air Conditioner Troubleshooting
Air Filter
If the air filter is clogged, air cannot flow properly through the air conditioner. This greatly reduces the cooling capacity of the air conditioner. In addition, if the air filter is clogged, the evaporator coils will frost over. To remove debris from the air filter, try cleaning the filter. If it is not possible to clean the air filter, replace it.
Condenser Coils are Dirty
The condenser coils dissipate the heat as the refrigerant passes through the coils. If the condenser coils are dirty, they won’t be able to dissipate the heat as effectively. As debris builds up on the coils, the air conditioner will become less efficient, causing the air conditioner to work harder to cool down. If the coils are significantly dirty, the air conditioner will not be able to maintain the proper temperature, and the compressor will run continuously in an attempt to cool the room. Check the condenser coils to determine if they are dirty. If the condenser coils are dirty, clean them.
Compressor
The compressor might be defective. However, this is not usually the case. Before replacing the compressor, be sure to check more commonly defective components—particularly the overload protector and the compressor capacitor. If the compressor is defective, it should only be replaced by a licensed technician.
Thermostat
The thermostat monitors the temperature of the air. When the air temperature rises above a set point, the thermostat activates a switch to provide power to the fan and compressor. If the thermostat is defective, the thermostat may not cool properly. To determine if the thermostat is defective, set the air conditioner to cooling and then use a multimeter to test the thermostat for continuity. If the thermostat does not have continuity while the air conditioner is set to cooling, replace the thermostat. (Note: Some thermostats may also control a heater and, as a result, will have three terminals. Refer to your air conditioner’s wiring diagram for more information.)
Control Board
The control board regulates the voltage to the compressor and the fan motor. If the control board fails, some components will not function properly or will not work at all. Control boards are often misdiagnosed; make sure to check more commonly defective parts first before replacing the control board.
Main Control Board
The main control board regulates the voltage to the compressor and the fan motor. If the main control board fails, some components will not function properly or will not work at all. Main control boards are often misdiagnosed; make sure to check more commonly defective parts first before replacing the main control board.
Furnace Troubleshooting
Furnace not heating
The igniter gets very hot and glows bright orange to light the gas burner. If the igniter fails or cracks, the furnace won’t heat. To determine if the igniter is faulty, remove the igniter and inspect it for cracks. If the igniter is cracked, replace it. If the igniter is not cracked, use a multimeter to test the igniter for continuity. If the igniter does not have continuity, replace it.
Flame Sensor
The flame sensor monitors the burner to detect whether or not a flame is present. If the flame sensor is defective, it might fail to detect a flame. If the flame sensor does not detect a flame, the control board will shut off voltage to the gas valve to prevent the furnace from heating. Sometimes, if the flame sensor is dirty, it will fail to detect a flame. Try cleaning the flame sensor with a fine abrasive pad. If the furnace still doesn’t heat, replace the flame sensor.
Draft Inducer Motor
The draft inducer motor draws air into the heat exchanger and then exhausts it out the flue. The pressure switch senses a pressure change and closes a switch to signal the control board that the furnace has proper air flow. If the draft inducer motor is defective, it may be unable to close the pressure switch, causing the ignition process to stall and the furnace to shut off after a few minutes. If the ignition process stalls, the furnace will shut off. If the draft inducer motor is at fault, replace it.
Control Board
The control board regulates the power supply to all of the components of the furnace. If the control board fails, it might not send voltage to the ignition system, causing the furnace not to heat.
Flame Rollout Limit Switch
The flame rollout switch monitors the heat surrounding the burners. If the inducer fan motor cannot draw enough air through the burners, or if the furnace is not venting properly, the rollout switch will open to halt the ignition sequence and prevent the furnace from heating. To determine if the flame rollout switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the switch does not have continuity and the reset button is not tripped replace it. Be aware that poor airflow through the burner is often a result of insufficient ventilation or a restricted exhaust vent. Make sure that your furnace is in a properly ventilated location and the exhaust vent is clear of obstructions.
Wall Thermostat
The wall thermostat has electrical contacts that control the power supply to the furnace. If the contacts in the thermostat fail, the furnace will not turn on. To determine if the thermostat is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the wall thermostat does not have continuity, replace it.
Gas Valve Assembly
The gas valve opens to allow gas to flow into the burner. If the gas valve is defective, the valve will not open, preventing the furnace from heating. To determine if the gas valve is at fault, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the gas valve does not have continuity, replace it.
Pressure Switch
The pressure switch closes when the burner has sufficient airflow. If the pressure switch isn’t working, it might not close when the proper airflow is present, causing the ignition process to stall. To determine if the pressure switch is defective, use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity. If the pressure switch does not have continuity, replace it.

Listen, when it comes to installing almost anything I am on the phone with my buddy, buying him a six pack and a pizza to do almost everything in my house. This thing installed so easily I could do it, which is saying something. Check one. Two, I have central air, but like most central air the upstairs suffers. I need it Arctic cold when I sleep and with my bedroom being of average size this cooled the room down in less than 10 minutes. Check two. Pretty quiet as I am a light sleeper and the noise is minable. Check three. Price You are not gonna find an AC unit sub 300 that runs any better. Check four. The only box that is missing is durability. If it fails during this summer I will update the post.
I recently purchased the Daikin Furnace and fell in love with it. It has cost me nothing more than the eighty dollars I pay for the annual checkup. It has cut my gas bills by over 50%. I don’t even turn off the furnace during winter. I know that the furnace is great and I guess that the problems people are experiencing are due to poor maintenance. I would recommend Daikin to everyone out there.
I am very impressed by its amazing quiet, great looking and easy installation. I have been looking for a window air conditioner for my medium sized studio for a while and I am glad I brought this one right before the summer comes and had it works out perfectly. My husband installed it by following the instructions, it’s simple and quick. Since it’s very hot yesterday, already above 90F, I turned it on. It cools down quickly, and for most important think, it is very quiet even though it’s getting up to speed which is out of my expectation.
My husband and I moved into our new home 2 years ago, but as soon as we settled, the furnace broke. We called a technician who advised that we should purchase a new furnace since the old one would continue giving us problems. He suggested that we go for Daikin and it has been a perfect choice. Sometimes, the warmth in the house is the only indication that it’s on. It keeps our home cozy and warm in just a short time even in the cold Wisconsin winters. We have not had any problems with the Daikin furnace so far. I would gladly buy it over and over again.
This AC is awesome . Elegant design, minimum noise, extremely quiet, Especially during the day, Barely audible. The design is very intuitive. Easy to use, good effect, Refrigeration speed is fast, And save electricity, The cooling effect is very good, Enough for room, high efficiency, strong ability, The wind is strong The wind covers a large area and the distance is far enough It looks good in my room, For example After turning on the computer for an hour, the temperature of the room is very stable Its installation, Disassembly and transportation are very convenient Especially when you move, or want to remove it for friends, it is more convenient. Generally speaking, Such product quality, And product prices, It's worth buying, So that's my choice, I am satisfied.
While Daikin's air conditioners are one of the most cost effective units in the market; in terms of running, they aren't the best choice for everyone. This is because of several factors, such as short warranty periods (unless registered), loud operation, and poor heating capabilities.
I have had a Daikin furnace for four years now. I’ve always taken care of the furnace by having it checked and maintained annually. I also replace the filters after every eight weeks. The furnace has never failed and is always reliable even at the worst weather. My current technician tells me that the installers did a good job. The noise level is barely noticeable. I would recommend the Daikins Furnace to everyone.

The Daikin furnace that I replaced had served our family efficiently for twenty five years until it broke down three years ago. I immediately replaced it with a newer model of Daikin. As always, it has low maintenance needs; all that is required is for me to change the filters at least three times a year. I have never had to repair the Daikin, but it still runs smoothly. If I were to make a furnace purchase again, I would still purchase this unit.
We bought this unit for our large bed room. The unit surprisingly works pretty well and cover all area. It only takes about 10-15 minutes to cold down the room. It also comes with the remote control which is one of the reason we choose this unit. This unit is so quite and much better than the one we had 2 years ago which is in another bed room. I would recommend it to anyone.
