Napoleon Appliance Repair

Napoleon Heating and Cooling manufactures HVAC equipment such as gas furnaces, central air conditioners, and ductless pumps. Napoleon HVAC products are built with the highest quality components for quiet, reliable operation in the harshest environments.

Air Conditioner Repair

For the home, kitchen and beyond, Napoleon manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Napoleon appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

Air not blowing properly?
This likely means the filter is dirty and needs to be replaced or cleaned. To avoid this problem, clean or change the unit’s air filter every one to three months, depending on the manufacturer’s instructions.

Unit smells?
Air conditioner filters can absorb smells from your home, including smoke and cooking smells, and then circulate them around the house. If you notice bad smells being emitted from your cooling system, it’s likely that the filter is dirty and needs to be cleaned.

Low refrigerant?
Refrigerant is a key component in your cooling system, and if it gets low because of use or a leak, then it can cause several problems. Three of the most common indications that your refrigerant is low are ice on the refrigerant line, hissing or bubbling noises, and the unit blowing hot air. To fix the problem, you need to top up the refrigerant supply.

Not cooling correctly?
There can be many causes for this issue, but often it’s something as simple as a problem with the thermostat. For starters, check the thermostat settings to ensure it’s set to the right temperature for your comfort. You should also make sure the thermostat is in a position where the temperature setting isn’t being impacted by things like sunlight or heat from the kitchen, and see that it’s clean inside.

Dirty or corroded coils?
Air conditioning units have evaporator coils and condenser coils. Condenser coils are outside the unit and can become dirty. These coils should be rinsed annually to prevent dirt buildup. Evaporator coils, on the other hand, can be vulnerable to corrosion and should be serviced regularly to prevent this.

Seized compressor?
The compressor is responsible for starting and maintaining cooling cycles, so it’s a key component in the proper operation of your cooling system. The compressor can break down for many reasons, including low refrigerant, and if this happens, the unit will not work.

When to Get a Technician for Napoleon A/C Repairs
- There’s a burning smell coming from the unit
- Condenser coil is heavily soiled
- Unit is making loud sounds
- Circuit breaker trips regularly
- Water is leaking from the unit
- Evaporator coil is corroded
- Power cord gets hot
- Power cord is worn or frayed
- Compressor stops working

Furnace Repair

For the home, kitchen and beyond, Napoleon manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Napoleon appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

The Thermostat
Although this may seem obvious, be sure your thermostat is set to heat and that it's actually colder in your house than the temperature the thermostat is set to. If it is neither of these reasons causing the issue, try turning the fan switch to "on" to force the furnace to start blowing air. If your furnace still refuses to turn on, check your programmable thermostat for an error code. Often, newer electronic thermostats will display an error code if something is wrong. Check the display and see if it tells you what the problem is. If it still doesn't work, after you have tried all of those options, the problem is probably slightly more tricky than a simple thermostat fix. Continue reading to learn what some other causes may be.

The Gas Line
First and foremost, verify that the gas is turned on. You can check this by examining the shut-off valve which is outside. Another easy way to tell if the gas is on and working properly is by starting another gas burning appliance, like the stove. If it seems like the gas line is not the issue and the gas is flowing to other appliances, check to make sure the gas supply to the furnace itself is open and clear. If the gas supply to the furnace is disrupted, your furnace could potentially be lacking the amount of fuel necessary to ignite. Finally, if you smell gas or believe there is a leak, evacuate your home immediately and call a professional to evaluate the emergency issue.

The Furnace
Your furnace could also be the cause of the problem. The switch inside the furnace could have accidentally been switched to off, so be sure the power is turned on. Even if you have a gas system, it uses electricity and must be turned on. There is a power disconnect switch by the furnace. You can also check the breaker to make sure power to the furnace has not been tripped. If it has been tripped, be sure to turn it back on. However, if it continues to trip, call an HVAC technician because something is wrong.

The Filter
One of the easiest solutions to fix a broken furnace is changing the air filter. If routine filter changes have not been completed and your vents and registers are completely clogged, this can greatly impair the furnace's air flow. First check to make sure the furnace filter is clean and has been recently changed, then be sure to make sure all vent registers are clear of furniture and other blockages.  If this does not solve the problem, you may need to hire a professional company to clean your air ducts if airflow is still obstructed.

The Pilot Light  (Faulty Ignition Sensor)
The pilot light or ignition sensor is usually the most common issue when your furnace will not ignite. This is typically the problem if you can hear your furnace click on but it does not fire up. A faulty or dirty ignition or sensor is a relatively easy fix, so follow these steps, and you may be able to solve the problem yourself. First, you need to turn off the gas to the furnace. Then, remove the front panel to find the ignitor or ignition sensor. This is typically located near the burners. If the sensor or ignitor is dirty, it will need to be cleaned. Remove it with a screwdriver and clean it while being careful not to break it.  When you are finished, replace it exactly the way you found it. Put the front panel back on, turn on the gas, and then turn the furnace back on. Turn up the temperature on your thermostat to see if your furnace will now fire up.

Gas Fireplace Repair

For the home, kitchen and beyond, Napoleon manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Napoleon appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

Make sure the gas is on.
Seems simple, but the gas valve could have gotten turned off for any number of reasons over the summer or since it was last used. After turning it on, wait a couple minutes, and then try lighting the fireplace again. If you're smelling gas, then shut it off. The safest course of action is to have a professional come out and quickly resolve this.

I shut off my gas for the summer. Can I turn it back on?
Some people like to shut off their gas during the summer months. This is unnecessary and doesn't save you any money. But if you prefer to shut it off in the spring, then hire a professional to get the pilot relit.

Where's my gas shutoff valve?
The valve is usually located at the floor below the fireplace, or in the wall operated by a key. If you just moved to this house or can't find it for some reason, call us up and we may be able to help you find it over the phone. You are safer leaving this work to a professional.

Check the batteries
If your fireplace remote isn't working, sometimes it's as simple as changing the batteries. There are also batteries at the receiver end, located under or around the fireplace by the controls. Check your fireplace manual to locate them.

Make sure the flue is warmed up
To warm up the flue, leave the pilot on for at least half an hour, and then try turning on the fireplace again.
Especially if you have a B-vent fireplace (as opposed to direct vent), a cold flue can prevent the fireplace from lighting. This is common if it's been a while since you lit the fireplace and the pilot light was turned off. If you have a standing pilot, this means your pilot is always lit, so a cold flue shouldn't be a problem.
But even with direct vent, if you have an electronic pilot, it may have gotten turned off. You can prevent this in the future by setting it to "winter" mode, which means it will always be on. You can tell if you have an electronic pilot because it makes a clicking sound for a few seconds before it lights.

Get Your Fireplace Back
The bottom line is, gas fireplaces are far more convenient and easier to use than wood-burning ones. They're much less costly overall, since you don't have to buy wood, and have less environmental impact. But they do require regular service and upkeep. So if you haven't had any service or cleaning for several years, that’s likely to be the source of your problem.

Gas Grill Repair

The Tank
Modern propane tanks, mandated by the government, contain an Over Fill Prevention (OPD) Device. This makes it so a propane tank cannot be overfilled. Rarely, the OPD on your propane tank can be damaged causing the tank to work incorrectly.

Fuel Hose and Regulator
The output of a propane tank or your natural gas line is much greater than you need for grilling. The regulator controls the amount of fuel that can flow to your grill. This attaches to the tank (or natural gas line) with a flexible hose with an O-ring to create an airtight seal. Regulators are preset by the manufacturer and should not be adjusted by you. If you look at your regulator you will notice a small vent hole in the center. Common problems are clogged vent holes, which can cause irregular fuel flow and can lead to trouble. Usually, you can clear it by tapping or blowing into the vent. Other problems are fuel leakage caused by a worn or damaged hose or O-ring. To determine if there is a leak, mix dish soap and water in equal parts and coat everything from the tank to the control valves with the mixture and see if it produces any bubbles. The tank needs to be connected and on but the control valves must be off. If you find a leak, replace that part.

Control Valves
The control valves regulate the flow of fuel to the burner. Each burner on your grill has a control valve. You cannot repair a bad control valve and if need be, you should replace the whole unit. Before you do, however, remove the control valve from your grill and inspect it. Like other parts of your grill, insects love to climb in here to nest. At the center of the control is the orifice. The orifice controls the flow of fuel and can become clogged. If it is, use a thin wire to clean it out. Make sure you put it all back together the way you found it. Without the orifice, you cannot regulate the amount of gas flowing to the burner and run the risk of explosion.

Venturi Tubes
The venturi tubes connect the control valve to the burner(s) and mix the fuel with air to provide the flame. To do this, there is an open gap in the fuel line that can easily become obstructed. Insects, especially spiders, commonly nest here. The best solution for this is to wrap the venturi tubes with an aluminum screen that will not block the airflow but will keep the critters out. Many grills come with protected venturi tubes. Another common problem is a misalignment of the venturi tubes with the burner. Typically the venturi tubes are simply placed in the fuel line and can get knocked out of place. The venturi tubes have adjustable shutters and they may need an adjustment to regulate fuel flow.

Burners
Burners come in many shapes, sizes, and materials. Burners range from aluminized steel at the low end to cast brass and stainless steel at the high end. Low-end burners will typically last about three years under normal circumstances. Because the burner is inside the grill, it tends to get coated in burnt grease and can corrode quickly. Inspect and clean your burner regularly to avoid problems. If the burner is damaged or too heavily corroded, you will need to replace it. Get the same size and shape of the burner but consider purchasing one of a better quality metal if possible.

Barrier or Radiant
In between the burner and the cooking, the grate is a barrier, also called a radiant. It is supposed to absorb and release heat evenly to the cooking surface. The barrier protects the burners from drippings and creates a place for grease to collect and burn off. It may be constructed of lava rocks, ceramic briquettes, or metal plates. These need to be replaced periodically as they become crusted with burnt grease and food; this can eventually create an unpleasant flavor in foods. Porous lava rocks tend to need replacement more often. Metal plates can typically be cleaned and used for a longer time. Inspect your barrier. If it is broken up, heavily coated, or simply not creating a sufficient barrier, consider replacing it.

We have had this grill for around a month and have used only a few of the features. However, the delivery and setup were as promised and the looks and features are exactly as described. It is a beautiful grill. We are needing to take some time to getting used to having a sear burner but I am sure that will come with time. The main burners were a dream to work with. We love the look of this grill and our friends and neighbors can't stop looking! The lighting on the grill and in the cabinet is SO helpful and the lighting of the knobs just makes this grill stand out. We love our new grill! We can't wait to try the smoker and rotisserie accessories as well.

Excellent Cooling! We’ve had our new Napoleon air conditioner for just over 3 months. This has been the hottest summer in a number of years. Our air conditioner has been on every day except 2 or 3. And our house has never felt cooler. Our old air conditioner never got our second storey cool enough. We always had the ceiling fan and a floor fan on to make us more comfortable. Now, our upstairs is perfect. So much cooler. No fans needed. I would highly recommend my Napoleon AC.

As a contractor, I love installing Napoleons. Contrary to the 1 And 2 start reviews these furnaces are not loud unless you have a improper installation. Every time I install the 9600 the customers comment on the quite operation compared to the last furnace. I have yet to have any problems because my installs are proper. Every complaint I see in the 2 star rating is nothing less than a poor install. The over heating is because the fan speed is set too low or the return air is choked up probably because of a filter that is too restrictive or need changing or the installation was not cut out enough. Or the home owner does not clean his ducting and the high limit and heat exchanger is filthy. Again it has nothing to do with the product the Napoleon 9600 is a great product in my opinion they are the best furnaces out there and I have install many different brands.

I've had this furnace now for about 4 years. Quiet and keeps the house nice and warm. It's a furnace that once installed you basically forget it is there, as there are no issues with it. I picked the 9600 as I use propane and I need to keep my operating cost down. I installed an ecobee thermostat last year and they work great together. Both the two stage valve and the ECM motor I highly recommend and this furnace has it.

Delivery was very fast. Flame is very nice and adjustable. Wife likes the heater. I was able to hook it up to Alexa through my harmony. It was fairly easy to install. It didn't throw my breaker when plugged into the wall with the heater on. It's best handled by two people.

This thing is the best fireplace we've ever had and we've had masonry wood burning [messy] and gas insert [great but still need maintenance]. The remote makes starting a fire super easy and it's easy to operate. It has multiple heat settings and does produce enough heat to warm up our great room. I chose Napolean because they have been in the fireplace business for many years and I figured they would get this new tech right. Our builder had no problem installing. I had them recess it into the wall using the dimensions given in the product info. Our builder and everybody who visits thinks its the coolest!

After a bunch of reviews I went with this grill. I also never dealt with BBQ Guys before this purchase. The customer service was awesome. The grill arrived on time and I was kept in the loop from BBQ Guys and then the shipping company called me to confirm. I previously had a Webber and this grill provides so much more. The sear station is used all the time along with the rear burner. I also love the built in smoker box & I have used the optional charcoal tray. The lights are awesome and gives the grill that WOW factor.

I have tried out all of the features of this grill and found them to be very good. Temperature control is excellent, ease of use is wonderful, construction is of the highest standard. (The smoker performs beautifully!) This is a really fun grill to cook with. Issues I have found are the tendency for oil or grease burn from the drip tray. The work around is to maintain a cold side and hot side of the grill when barbecuing. Also, the rear burner does not lite using the built in electric ignition.
