What to Look for When Buying a Microwave?
Posted On: July 20, 2021

Are you in the market to purchase a new microwave but are unsure of what to look for? With so many different models, it can be hard to choose the right one that suits your needs. Here are a few things to look at when you go to purchase your next microwave.

Type: There are four types of microwaves on the market, countertop, above the range, built-in and conventional.

  • Countertop: These microwaves are the most affordable and standard style of microwaves. They are easy to use and install, all you have to do is plug it in, and you're all set. The only downside is it takes up counter space.
  • Over the range: Typically, over-the-range microwaves are installed above the stovetop and come with a light and venting system. These types of microwaves allow for more counter space and are suitable for smaller kitchens. However, they can be harder for kids and some adults to reach.
  • Built-in: Like over-the-range microwaves, built-in models do not take up any space as they are installed in a wall, which makes them the perfect type of microwave for any cook who needs that extra counter space. These types of microwaves are more expensive because they require installation.
  • Convection: Like an oven, a convection microwave uses high heat instead of microwaves to cook food. You can cook almost any type of food in these types of microwaves. And they can be either placed on a countertop, above your stove, or built into a wall. But because they have so many features, they are one of the more expensive ovens on the market.

A few other factors to keep in mind:

  1. Kitchen: Consider the size of your kitchen before purchasing your next microwave. Does it have enough counter space? Can you install it inside a wall or above your oven? And color, you may want an oven that matches the rest of your appliances.
  2. Power: You want an oven that has at least 1,000 Watts.
  3. Model: When searching for a new microwave, do a little research to see which model has everything that you are looking for, including price, reliability, and different settings. Such as popcorn, defrost, and reheat.
