Why buy a $3000 fridge?
Posted On: July 26, 2023

Today at Home Depot, I noticed there is a huge price range for side by side, and french door fridges.

Like anywhere from $1300 to $3000+.

Some have the gimmicks like wifi, or air and water filters.

But I reached a point where other than minor differences in shelf design, I couldn't distinguish between the high and lower priced ones.

The Energystar kilowatt-hour usage was nearly identical too.

What's the deal? Why pay $3000 when others exist 95% just like it for a thousand dollars less?

Question from user desertsnakes at Appliances at reddit.

Answer:

We spent a little less than $3K on ours to get a brand with a five-year parts and labor warranty on the sealed system (after two lower-priced fridge compressor failures in two years).

It was an outlet - floor model, so it was not full price.

We also have a smaller, odd-sized kitchen and that limited our options by the case sizes that would fit.

I don't do wire shelves either.

Ours has an ice maker in the freezer, not nothing through the door, and I have no idea if it has wifi or what one would use that for.
